What Does Still I Rise Represent
The first part of my visual representation of the poem Still I Rise is a Taraxacum Officinale, more
commonly known as the dandelion. These flowers are widely established to have a negative
connotation; perhaps, they upset the aesthetics of a well manicured lawn. In any case, this is the same
for Maya Angelou in Still I Rise. In the middle of the 20th century, African Americans were the
victims of discrimination because they were different; they were of color and the dominant whites
believed they did not fit in. Furthermore, from a biological perspective, dandelions are uncontrollably
successful. These once inconspicuous spring flowers have spread to vast regions of the continent, and
have dominated the native flora. This is similar to the poem because up until the middle of the 1960s,
African Americans were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These intrepid flowers are the first to blossom, symbolizing confidence and fearlessness, as did Maya
Angelou when she stood up for African Americans in Still I Rise . This lilac is blue, rather than the
typical purple because blue represents confidence: the sky will always be there, the waves will always
rise. These phenomena are reliable and stable, both of which are characteristics that encourage
confidence. Similarly, Maya only pushes through her challenges by having a confident and self
respectful stance. Furthermore, Surrounding the lilac is an ocean of concrete. This symbolizes all the
oppression, persecution, and tyranny African Americans have suffered. Yet, the lilac still stands
confidently further supporting the theme of Still I Rise : confidence triumphs over any obstacle.
Lastly, I depicted a cloudless daybreak in the background with the ideal colors yellow and orange.
This setting symbolizes the end of brutal hardships and personifies the resilience of the sun Maya and
the lilac had to conjure to triumph over their

Self Hater Pros And Cons
So when you address certain problems and offer a different viewpoint that is not the norm within our
community you have self hate issues? I don t believe that s the case in this instance. Honestly, I see
why some Black men, women don t speak up and share their opinions on certain issues,or thoughts in
general, because they are attacked and called sell out self haters. It is a damn shame when your
blackness is questioned when you have a differing in opinions. This is priceless. I should ve expected

Michael Jai White was not saying only black men cheat or more prone to at all, he didn t not make it a

Sophocles Oedipus the King and Cocteau s The Infernal Machine
Sophocles Oedipus the King and Cocteau s The Infernal Machine relate the same story, yet from quite
different angles. Sophocles play is written in heightened language and spends 1,530 lines on an hour
of time. On the other hand, Cocteau s characters speak colloquially, and his 96 pages cover 17 years,
putting much more emphasis on the events prior to where Sophocles begins his play. Sophocles and
Cocteau present Oedipus character in different lights, and through these characters express contrary
themes. Sophocles proud yet wise Oedipus reveals that a human s future is determined by his actions,
while Cocteau s haughty yet immature Oedipus suggests that mortals ... Show more content on

Sophocles Oedipus is a clever man and a sage ruler. Unfortunately, he thinks too much of himself and
believes that he knows better than the gods.
Cocteau s Oedipus lacks wisdom and behaves in a silly manner. The Infernal Machine presents
Cocteau s vision of what transpired between Oedipus and the Sphinx. In this version, the sphinx
blindly chooses Oedipus to be Thebes savior and even answers the riddle for him. She picks him
because she has a crush on him and is bored with her job. This Oedipus becomes king out of luck and
rules very much like a child. All this Oedipus strives for is action, adventure. (Cocteau, Infernal
Machine, p.45) Even the Sphinx says, The fool! He understood nothing. (Cocteau, Infernal Machine,
p. 53) Of course, by not understanding what transpired with the sphinx, Cocteau s Oedipus believes
himself to be a genius and an able ruler. Of course he can not
even make it through his nightmares without the support of Jocasta, his wife/mother.

Historical Analysis Of The Zoot Suit, By Luiz Valdez
Zoot Suit was written by Luiz Valdez and published in 1978. The story is based on the Sleepy Lagoon
murder trials of the 1940s and follows protagonist Henry Reyna. This play deals with the intercultural
conflicts between Henry s generation and his parent s, as well as those between Mexican Americans
and white Americans. Mexican and American culture is effortlessly blended to show the transcultural
influences on Henry and his group of friends. In this historical analysis, I will not only be looking at
what historical events influenced this play and the author, but how this play uses those historical
influences to showcase the battle of cultural expression in 1940s Los Angeles. Los Angeles was
undergoing severe demographic changes in the early 1940 s. Mexican refugees were escaping the
Mexican Revolution, farmers were fleeing the Dust bowl, and American servicemen rushed to Los
Angeles because of World War II ( People Events ). The economy was booming from the war as
American production increased and the youth was appreciating jazz culture and began wearing zoot
suits, just like in the play. Because of the Sleepy Lagoon murders, the zoot suit was associated with
Mexican violence. Eventually, fights escalated between the rebelling Mexican American youth and
Marines because the racial tensions. This led to the Zoot Suit Riots of 1943 that left hundreds injured.
As stated by the citizens committee investigating the riots, racism was the central cause of the riots (

Van Gogh s The Courtesan An Image of Utopia
Beginning in the 1870s and extending into the 1900s, two major styles of art became prevalent in the
country of France; Impressionism and Post Impressionism. Impressionism resulted from the feelings
of chaos and instability from a major increase in population, showing scenes in a sketch like manner
through a portrayal of senses. By the mid 1880s, Post Impressionism emerged, causing a return from
the spontaneity that was missing traditional elements and explored expressing emotion while still
using formal elements. Vincent Van Gogh used the Post Impressionist influence of Japonisme, the
Japanese aesthetic associated with the new useage of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Eisen featured on the cover of a popular magazine in France from May 1886. Though the background

woman remains very flat and one dimensional, a technique typical in wood block prints. The dark
outlines on a majority of the environment is reminiscent of methods used to produce a Japanese print.
He used many Japanese motifs in the work, such as the bamboo, water lilies, and the boat in the
landscape portion of the painting, paying homage to the culture Van Gogh was borrowing so heavily

Research Paper On Flowers For Algernon
Many books have been banned from school libraries. Have it be the language, racial themes, sex,
violence, negativity, witchcraft, unpopular religious views,or even unpopular political views found in
the books. What about Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes a book about a 32 year old man named
charlie who is developmentally disabled and has the opportunity to undergo a surgical procedure that
will dramatically increase his mental capabilities. Why ban this book? Well in this book you can find
references to the use of alcohol, references to sexual content and Bullying. The book s references to
sexual content, alcohol use, and bullying influenced many parents to have this book be banned, but is
the banning of this book throughout the nation justified.
One reason why Flowers of algernon by daniel keyes was banned in many schools was because of the
reference to the use of alcohol. In progress report 16 the use of alcohol is mentioned a few times Fay
had taken off her shoes and was sitting on the floor, sipping gin out of the bottle, This makes it sound
like drinking alcohol is a casual thing.Alcohol is also mentioned again in progress report 16, is it wise
of you to drink so heavily? , No, but i m trying to relax... This part of the conversation between two
people makes it sound like alcohol is a remedy to stress. With alcohol being used casually and as a
remedy to stress in the book, it s easy to see why parents would not want their children to read this
book, although

Major Differences In The Movie 300
THIS IS SPARTA a famous quote from the movie 300 (2006) about the ferocious battles of the Greco
Persian wars across the western Mediterranean. Persia was the dominant empire of this time because
of conquering and expanding borders. They had the largest army of the time with around 700,000
800,000 soldiers. Sparta on the other hand was a smaller still powerful city state with highly trained
Military personnel. I think there are many minor differences that alter and change the way you see the
battle. Some of those minor changes in the movie not in the real battle are the Persians used rhinos and
elephants to ride into battle, Xerxes does not go into battle as seen in the movie and the Spartans did
not fight with any armor unlike the real battle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the mighty Persian empire they never had any animals used for combat. During the hiding in
the shade scene, it showed the Persian archers shooting of what looks to be one million plus arrows
which is a huge overstatement because for one there was never that many arrows to block out the sun,
and second the wooden arrows would not stick in the metal shields the Spartans held. Another minor
difference within the battle was in the movie it showed Xerxes in the front lines of the battle. In the
movie Xerxes Talked to Leonidas and even reasoned for him to be warlord of Sparta and obviously
Leonidas refused. In reality Xerxes was far behind enemy lines where he couldn t get a spear in the
cheek. Xerxes was also never that tall or never wore those clothes he was much shorter, fatter and
wore fine silk clothes. Last minor difference was in the movie the Spartan soldiers were almost naked
when going into battle. Actual spartan soldiers were covered head to toe in metal armor and never
took their helmets off during combat. Also the Immortals looked like scream with a chrome face the
real ones looked like normal soldiers just with heavier

Moral Lessons for Children Depicted in Three Versions of...
Fairy tales read to young children not only served as a form of entertainment for the child, but they
also taught children the difference between what is good and what is bad. The Three Little Pigs is a
prime example of the morals and lessons that children were taught while reading a fairy tale. The fact
that the tale is equipped with adventure and the ability for animals to talk causes children to immerse
in the text while acknowledging the consequences of laziness of the first two little pigs and the result
of evil for the sneakiness of the big bad wolf. The tale does however teach children the benefits of
hard work when at the end the third pig lives happily ever after in his sturdy house made of bricks.
Comparing three different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tales today have much more pleasant ending and children most likely will not be as frightened but
instead learn the moral lessons that the tale is trying to portray through its vivid illustrations and
excessive amount of repetition. The first version of the Three Little Pigs that I analyzed was by Paul
Gadon and it closely mimicked the original version of the tale. When reading the tale I was baffled by
some of the events that took place. Growing up my mother made sure that I did not read any material
that she felt would give me nightmares or would give me a negative way of thinking. Because I was
forced to read the revised version I never knew the truth behind the tale until just recently. In Gadon s
version the first two little pigs surprisingly get eaten by the big bad wolf. Witnessing the two pigs get
eaten by the wolf was very tragic and without a doubt left me in shock. This version of the tale shows
children that the consequences of lazy work results in terrible consequences. Were the houses falling
down not enough? Why did they have to get eaten? Does this brutal act change the thinking of
Children? Because it is scientifically proven that children often repeat what they here or act out what
they see I must agree with Mrs. Trimmer that the original version of many fairy tales may have a
negative effect on children. At a young age most children do not understand the difference between

The First College Football Game
On November 6, 1869 what was coined as the first college football game was played between Rutgers
and Princeton. Later in the 1880s, Walter Camp, a rugby player from Yale, helped shape the rules that
we now have in American Football. From then the game has evolved immensely and I want to help
you understand it. The basic rules are the most important part of every game, but are extra important
in football. Every drive for the offense will start with the opposing team kicking the ball off. If the ball
is kicked out of the back of the end zone, that will result in a touchback, which means the offense
starts on their own 20 yard line. A football field is 100 yards long with two end zones on each end.
Each half you have what is considered your end zone which your defense will try to keep the other
team s offense from scoring touchdowns or field goals in. A touchdown is 6 points plus an extra point
kick that is one point or a two point conversion that are rarer and harder to convert. A field goal can be
kicked at any point on offense is 3 points. So if you are on your own side of the 50 yard line, you
would say you are on your own 20, 25, 30, ect. If you have the ball on you own 20 yard line it would
be pretty difficult to make it 80 yards in the 4 plays you are given. That s why you can earn what is
called a first down every 10 yards. An offense has four plays to gain 10 yards to get a first down or the
ball is turned over on downs, which means the other team will receive

Feminism And The Feminist Movement
Feminism is a movement that I have never really claimed myself to be a part. I have nothing against
those who want to stand for what they believe in, but I think there s a way it should be done.
Feminism is something that I have questioned a lot and have looked into. I am completely for women
feeling empowered; however, I find many things that I disagree with when it comes to the feminist
movement. I ve listed five of them:
1. Feminists tend to paint the picture like men are the only problem. It seems as if it s easier to put the
blame on men. Why do we have to bash men who are doing their jobs? As women, we find it
disrespectful when men use derogatory terms towards us; however, it s okay for women to use the
same derogatory terms. In my opinion, it s not okay. Feminists also seem to see one side to certain
issues. For example, feminists do not see men as being victims of domestic violence. Men are not
always the abusers and I think that is is very reactionary to have this belief. Why is that if a woman
does this action then there is a reason that follows. It doesn t make it right and this makes feminists
come across as being hypocritical. You have men who do the right thing and they are degraded. Do
you honestly want the responsibility of a man?
2. When it comes to oppression we haven t necessarily faced oppression like women in other
countries. We can complain about the job market and how we should get certain pay and jobs, but
there are women dealing with far worse

Essay On Concealed Carry Permits
Concealed Carry Permits in The United States
In most recent years one of the biggest political arguments has been about firearms. When talking
about firearms, both sides can get very into the disagreement and emotional on the subject. With the
increasing amounts of mass shootings, this topic has been in mainstream media and talked about
largely for the better half of the last six years. When it comes to the argument the Democratic party
stands on stronger gun laws that will lead to more regulations and less gun sales, while the Republican
party leans the other way with less regulation and more legal gun owners. The democrats say that the
less guns on the street, the less gun violent related crimes. On the other hand the Republican s ... Show

Many feared the laws that could have been put in place. In eleven states at least 10 percent of the
adults possess carry permits (French). The total in the last two years has also taken a large jump from
12.8 million to 16.36 million Americans with carry permits. This number is also not 100% accurate
considering the fact that 14 states have passed laws stating that you do not need a permit to carry a
firearm. This will increase the total number of Americans carrying firearms, but there is no way of
telling because there is not an official listing. With the increase in concealed carry permits, there has
also been a large increase in firearm sales. From 2008 to 2011, there were about 14 million firearms
sold in the United States, while over 20 million were sold between 2012 and 2013, and about a quarter
were sold to first time buyers (Howell). With the number of first time buyers on the rise it shows that
the United States is leaning towards a more right look at firearms. A 2000 Gallup Poll found that 35
percent of Americans thought that owning a gun made their home safer. By 2014 that number soared
to 63 percent (Howell). This goes hand and hand with the increase of firearm sales and concealed
carry permits. The change when a person starts carrying a gun is they, No longer are they a protectee.

role. The rise in

John Steinbeck s Cannery Row
Cannery Row by John Steinbeck is a social experiment, a character study, a story of successes and
failures, and a work of unadulterated art. Steinbeck s purpose is to illustrate life in all its complexities
and mysteries. In the process, Steinbeck warps life s realities into his own modernized utopia,
demonstrating how even the most down on their luck of communities can become a paradigm of
contentment. In order to present his findings on life s intricacies, he utilizes an exquisite partnership of
style and form. Style and form both impact Steinbeck s purpose in the novel, specifically in the form
of a complicated set of vignettes, anecdotes, off tangent musings, and advanced sentence structures.

They are somewhat vulgar and they use improper grammar and abbreviate the pronunciation of certain
words. A prime example of this is the conversation the boys have while out catching frogs for Doc.
Mac is thinking about the idea of giving a gift to Doc and says But s pose we give him something
except whiskey, maybe cufflinks with his initials [to which Hazel responds] Oh, horseshit...Doc don t
want stuff like that (74). This kind of language is typical of Mack and his friends throughout the book.
They use s pose instead of suppose, except instead of other than or besides, vulgar expressions instead
of tame ones, and don t instead of doesn t. This helps to illustrate the complex nature of humans and
their relationships. While Doc generally speaks proper English, the bums have a rough manner of
speaking. Additionally, Lee Chong s voice has a significant lack of a certain letter. According to the
narrator, He spoke a stately English without ever using the letter r (5 6). One example of this is when
Mack comes to make a deal with him on the Palace Flophouse and Grill, Lee says You like pay lent
my place? (10). By using such characterization for each of his individual character, Steinbeck captures
human complexities and thus captures life s complexities. The microscopic differences in the way

Irony In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury
Anatole France once said, Irony is the gaiety of reflection and the joy of wisdom. Ray Bradbury uses
multiple examples of irony in his novel. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the story takes place in a
futuristic dystopian society, where books are illegal. In this society, people spend most of their time
watching TV and they hardly talk to anyone. Guy Montag is a fireman who burns books. He is content
with his job, until he meets a young girl named Clarisse who is different from the rest of society,
which causes him to think. When he later witnesses an old woman burning herself with her books,
Montag feels guilty about his job. He secretly tries to preserve books, which causes some problems for
him because it is illegal. Through the help of an old man named Faber, Montag is able to preserve
some books and later starts to build a new society. Bradbury clearly uses many examples of irony such
as the different role of firemen in the society, Montag going against his duty, and the society being
burned in the end. One irony that Bradbury uses in Fahrenheit 451 is the different role of firemen in
the society. The firemen in this society are very different from the firemen in our society. For example,
when Montag told Clarisse that he was a fireman, Clarisse asked, Is it true that long ago firemen put
fires out instead of going to start them? (Bradbury 8). Clarisse heard that firemen used to extinguish
fires instead of starting them, but Montag disagrees. This is

Investigating The Logic Behind Mergers And Merger Between...
Scholars have developed theories that have attempted to explain the logic behind mergers and
takeover. DePamphilis (2010) notes that there are several theories and hypothesis linked to mergers
and takeovers some of which include efficiency theory, agency theory, diversification hypothesis and
market power hypothesis. This paper will analyze the efficiency and agency theories on the merger
between the US Airways Group and the AMR Corporations that led to the creation of American
Airlines Group Inc. (AAL) because they offer an appropriate rationale for the merger based on the
outcome.
According to Risberg (2013), the efficiency theory argues that mergers are organizational strategies
that are implemented to achieve three types of synergies, namely financial synergy, operational
synergy and managerial synergy. Generally, the acquirer firm will have considered the target s capable
assets and resources and presume that they can be beneficial to its own development. The synergy
concept reinforces this idea when it comes to mergers. For instance, the synergy concept argues that
mergers allow the combining of the efficient parts of the companies and the discarding of parts that
are considered redundant. Johnson (2014) observes that synergy occurs in varying ways, for instance,
when companies combine their different competitive advantages, potential tax benefit, or high
manpower. Any factor that raises the market value of the merging firms is called a synergy. This
means that the

Loewen The Land of Opportunity
22 January 2013 The effects of social class in America James W. Loewen, essay The Land of
Opportunity, discusses how many times Americans don t know about social classes and the effects
they have on society. Loewen argues that the common American people aren t given equal opportunity
in this day in age. He says that American history books have great influenced what we see about the
class system because a great deal of history is often left out. James Loewen begins The Land of
Opportunity by saying that teenagers have their ears and eyes tuned into TV and radio which show
privileged Americans, because of this teenagers and adults are comparing their own social status

Loewen says the babies born into household that are well off, will be healthier and babies born into
poor families will be in a very different situation. (203) Children who grow up in a poor area go to
school where there are 50 kids in one class and individual attention is never given, and children of
high class families will go to schools that have smaller class sizes and individual attention. Even when
a poor child goes to a better schoolteachers will question if the work done is their own and also only
expect hard work from the rich kids. if you are a child of low income parents, the chances are good
that you will receive limited and often careless attention from adults in your high school. Theodore
Sizer Horace s Compromise, If you are the child of upper middle income parents, the chances are

an advantage because they are like the makers of the tests, having similar backgrounds can help with

Black Masculinity And The Hip Hop Culture
In the predominantly patriarchal history of the world masculinity and what it means to be a man have
differed from culture to culture. When it comes to African American history and culture, particularly
what it has meant to be a man has no clear set of universal rules or guidelines. There are a few
different sources such as hip hop and television many young black men across America draw their
sense of masculinity from. On the other hand, there are role models in black communities that many
young black men also draw their sense of masculinity from. With so many different sources to draw a
sense of what it means to be a black man in today s society from what is the true definition of black
masculinity. In black media today the hip hop culture is often referred to when defining what it means
to be a black person in society. In particular the hip hop culture is where many young black men pull
both positive and negative aspects of black masculinity. Many mainstream hip hop songs often create
a common misogyny by objectifying and stereotyping women. An example of this can be heard in the
song Nasty Girl by The Notorious B.I.G. where he states: Conversate. Sex on the first date. I state,
You know what you do to me? She starts off, Well I don t usually. Then I, whip it out, rubber no doubt.

The Pros And Cons Of Plagiarism
In a world surrounded by phones, computers, and other technological devices, information is always
just a click away. School work has become more clicking and typing, and less reading and writing.
When kids get an assignment to read a book and do a book report on it, laziness kicks in, and they go
to the internet to look up a summary. Then what they do is copy and paste other people s writings into
their paper. What a majority of kids do not know is that this is considered plagiarism and it is illegal.
Plagiarism is something that is very common in today s world and although it is common and a great
deal of people do it, it is still illegal and wrong
Plagiarism, defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary is to commit literary theft or to present as new
and original an idea or product derived from an existing source . What this means in simpler words is
that plagiarism stealing someone else s words or ideas and using them as if they were your own. It is
considered plagiarism even if you forget to put quotation marks around the information you are using.
While reading the article ¨What is Plagiarism?¨ the reader learns that although it may not seem like a
big deal to copy what someone else said online or in a book, it is actually breaking the U.S. law. For
example, if a music composer wanted to write a new piece of music they would research and spend
time trying to think about what their piece is going to consist of. If the composer were to take words

What Were The Pros Of The Vikings
By the Xth century the Vikings (also called Northmen ) used to raid one European monastery after
another (Richards, 2005). The news about that spread all around Europe and caused much chaos. It
was the source of fear and panic among the European lords and Christians (Graham Campbell,
1980).The Vikings appeared from nowhere, killed people, robbed the monasteries and vanished. They
were so impetuous that were considered to be irresistible tribes. Their actions were described as
insulting, appalling and often immoral. They were called pagan marauder seamen (Graham Campbell,
1980). The early writings about the Vikings (Richards, 2005) make us aware of the fact that their raids
on Europe were mostly devastating and ruinous. Due to that, a certain stereotype of their being wild,
rude, aggressive and destructive prevails in human history. They became notorious for being merciless
barbarians, pirates, ravagers and beasts. But were they really like that? To what extent ... Show more

dealt with commercial and trade issues as well. (Short, 2010) Along with being good warriors and
accomplished seamen, the Vikings were skillful jewelers and sculptors (Graham Campbell, 1980). The
Norse culture influenced much on the European art and language. For instance, Irish architecture and
sculpture is full of Viking ornaments and carvings, English vocabulary is full of Norse words, etc.

Primate Observation Essay
On Friday, March 31, a observation study was conducted at the L.A. Zoo. The time of arrival for the
observation was at 11:48 am and the end of the observation was at 2:42 pm. The weather condition at
the zoo was very sunny with a mild gust of wind every so often, which is a perfect weather condition
to conduct a study. The main reason for conducting this observation study was to study and gather
information about the many different types of primate that are located at the zoo. To see how different
or similar each primate is to one anotherin different aspects. The first primate that was observed at the

For the Orangutan in the zoo each enclosure they had a total of three orangutan in each pen, most were

is very common according to Lang C. (2005), Adult males and independent adolescents of both sexes
range alone while adult females range with their dependent and weaned offspring (Primate Factsheet

are they physically built between in each others. For the orangutan, if they are standing they are about
5 feet tall, however including arm and leg span due to how they are built to climb and swing to places
their body size will be seven feet tall. Another difference was that they had no tail due to they
ancestors evolution to who they are now, which remove the chance of having the ability to have a

Cause And Effect Of Climate Change
Climate change is one of the biggest news headlines of today. While there are skeptics that believe that
global warming is just a hoax, there are many undeniable phenomenons happening around the world.
The effects of climate change, in the long run, will be catastrophic if it is left alone. In just the past
two months, there have been four hurricanes that made landfall in North America, and a wildfire more
aggressive than has ever been seen before, ripping through California, killing forty people and
leveling almost six thousand structures. Millions of Americans are displaced due to these unusually
aggressive storms and the fires raging throughout California. Arctic species have seen massive
reductions in their populations, with less food to eat, and less mates to breed with. The toxicity of the
air in urban cities and contamination of waters outside these cities is on the rise. If the world keeps
dismissing the importance of climate change, there will be calamitous consequences for the future
generations. The effects of climate change, if not fixed, will be Arctic ice melting, reduction in animal
populations, habitats threatened, and the air toxicity and seasonal allergies to humans. The causes
include the greenhouse effect and air pollution. In the past decade, Americans have seen global
warming in the headlines constantly. About 71 percent of American scientists say that global warming
is happening now (Saad). According to Linda Saad, Forty five percent of Americans

Citizen Journalism Protects Human Rights
CITIZEN JOURNALISM PROTECTS HUMAN RIGHTS
Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak could have never imagined the Pandora s Box they were unleashing on
the world with their invention of the personal computer, PC , in 1976. With the emergence of the
internet in 1989, the PC quickly evolved from a data processor and game console, to a communication
device. It has only been within the last decade that it has also developed into a social media device.
User participation on sites like Facebook and Twitter have exploded. Fueling this technical evolution
are a plethora of digital devices specifically designed to work cohesively with all that the internet has
to offer. These devices have gotten smaller, portable and even more user friendly. The power of the PC
now fits in the palm of your hand. The Smartphone, not only has replaced the PC for a lot of
consumers, but the camera, the video camera, the voice recorder, and the department store as well.
More prevalent through these innovations is now the ability for the average citizen to capture and
share, instantaneously, events that typically would only been made available through the evening
news. These events make their way through social media to the masses. These video clips,
photographs and commentary, incite powerful emotion, especially when exposing human rights
violations. Citizen Journalism protect Human rights through exposure of inequities. This inspires the
public to stand up for one another. Social media generates Citizen

Fermat s Last Theorem Research Paper
Fermat s Last Theorem Pierre de Fermat, born in 1601, hailed by many as the king of amateurs , was a
French lawyer and mathematics hobbyist. In the margin of his copy of Diophantus Arithmetica, he
scribbled a note that would perplex and puzzle event the greatest mathematicians for the next 350
years. In this margin, Fermat wrote that there were no positive integers that can fill in x, y, and z of
xn+yn=zn, where n represents a number higher than two. This equation was based on Pythagorean
triples, infinite triplets of numbers that could satisfy the equation xn+yn=zn where n represents 2. the
problem arose when Fermat noted that, I have found a truly marvelous demonstration of this
proposition which this margin is too narrow to contain. This supposed proof was never revealed. This
was not strange for Fermat, as he had a reputation of concealing his proof in order to frustrate his
colleagues, and in Arithmetica, he frequently left out his proof. The thing that made this particular
equation stand out was the fact that after Fermat s death in 1665 and the posthumous publishing of his
Arithmetica, all other marginal conjectures were verified while this last ... Show more content on

U.s Russian Conflict Between Ukraine And Russia

It has been argued that the Ukraine conflict can be attributed almost completely on Russian hostility. It
is argued that, the Russian president Putin, assaulted Crimea because of the long desire to protect the
soviet terrain, and from the prevailing situation, he may possibly pursue the entire Ukraine, as well as
other nations in Eastern Europe. In this perception the dismissal of Ukraine president Viktor simply
provided an excuse for Putin`s decision to order Russian militaries to take hold of part of Ukraine

for an entire unlimited trade pact with the European Union after it had converted an associate of the

with exports to the European Union adding up to over nineteen billion dollars and importation from
European Union of approximately thirty billion dollars (Simes 2014, p.5). Studies affirm that, Ukraine

Analysis Of A Sound Of Thunder
Have you ever forgot to turn your homework in. Then you think your not gonna get good grades in
high school, later you won t get into a good college, next you won t get a good job and your life will
be miserable. I know I have. Ray Bradbury s short story A Sound of Thunder takes place in the past
when dinosaurs existed. Travis, the instructor, takes Eckles through a time machine so Eckels can feel
what it s like to kill a dinosaur. They don t belong in the past so there is a path that they all have to
stay on so they don t mess up the future. Disregarding the instructions, Eckels accidentally steps off
the path and squishes a butterfly which changes many things in the future. An important theme in this
story is that the smallest actions can lead to great consequences. This can be proven by Eckels
stepping on the butterfly, the language changing and the president changing in the present time, and
Travis explaining the butterfly effect. After killing the dinosaur in the past, Eckels steps off the path
and squishes a butterfly. When they get back to the present day, many things changed because of that
one small action.
He held up a clot of dirt, trembling, No, it can t be. Not a little thing like that. No! (Bradbury.

years go on. The dead butterfly represents the small action and later on, in the story, they realize there

How to Reduce Employee Turnover with Motivation

people leaving their current work without a new job. With the development of society and the

As we know, the employee turnover of hospitality industry is quite higher than other industries. In
2004, Wildes warned that hospitality would face a significant work force deficit of quality managers

Ford Pinto Failure
Introduction
This memo is a failure analysis report on the Ford Pinto automobile accidents. On 28th May, 1972 a
1972 Ford Pinto car (manufactured by Ford Motors) burst into flames after a 30 Miles Per Hour (mph)
collision caused an immediate fire burning down the car killing the driver, Lily Gray (Leggett,
Christopher 1999). According to public record, more than 500 people have been killed from Ford
Pinto crash burnings (Dowie, Mark 1977). The ensuing sections of this report outline the events
leading up to the design and production of faulty Ford Pintos, the rationale behind the failure, and the
lessons that can be grasped from this failure. Description
The Ford Pinto began being designed in 1968. The fuel system was designed such that ... Show more

(Dowie, Mark 1977).
On the other hand, the failure was caused by a questionable cost benefit analysis which gave little
importance to the safety of drivers and passengers. By putting a monetary value to car burnings and
deaths, Ford concluded that they would make larger revenue by producing a car that did not need
adequate safety designs. Lessons to be Learned
The designers and engineers working on the Ford Pinto were aware of the results of the crash tests and
the possibility of the gas tank rupturing. However, they did not redesign the fuel system or add any
protection between the bumper and the gas tank in the final design. Management pressure can be used
to suppress concerns, however, as engineers, the code of ethics requires that all engineers must be
dedicated towards safety, protection and welfare of people, and should not give consent to any design
with potentially dangerous consequences. Moreover, it is apparent the rupturing of gas tanks was
caused by the failure of a small part of a large mechanism. It is important to make sure that no design
feature is ignored or treated as trivial in an engineering project; every part and every design must work
efficiently and safely in order to be used by society. Lastly, no factor should be placed above safety in

John Voss Drills
Brigadier General Frost and Brigadier General Lyon are on a collision course. Frost is training his pro
Southern state militia at Camp Jackson over which the Confederate flag is flying. Lyon believes that
waiting any longer without action would be dangerous for the cause of the Union and the security of
St. Louis. (L174) (L204) (L272)
On Friday, May 10, 1861, Johann Voss drills with the rest of his 2nd Regiment. This is their usual
practice in the morning. They drill for two hours under the watchful eye of their commander, a five
year veteran of the Austrian army, Colonel Henry Boernstein. Learning to drill in such a brief period is
no easy matter for Johann. (L174) (L175) (L272)
Suddenly a messenger comes rushing in with an order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, he and the others are filling the street from curb to curb massed closely together. To the
onlookers, he and his regiment appear to be nothing more than an armed mob as none of them have
been issued military uniforms. Nervous and frightened, many of the soldiers are holding their guns not
up over their shoulders as they were told, but in a ready position with some of them aiming at the
people on the pavement. Johann is both scared and nervous as everything is oppressively silent. He
can hear nothing but the shuffling of feet or, now and then, an officer s command, or a taunt from the
hostile crowd. All four regiments arrive almost simultaneously to surround Camp Jackson. (L174)
(L175) (L180)
He is deployed on the northwest side of the camp at Grand and Olive as Camp Jackson is surrounded
by the mostly German troops with guns set up in such a way as to cover almost the entire secessionist
camp. Lyon sends an officer under a flag of truce into the camp. This officer presents Brig. General
Frost with Lyon s demand to surrender the camp to federal troops within half an hour, or he would
experience the worst. Totally surprised by their sudden predicament, there is an uproar and panic in
the secessionist camp of 2,000 men. Within 30 minutes, General Frost s assistant appears before Lyon

Do not pretend the anxious calligraphy of touch was sign beyond some unspeakable animal stammer.

And do not imagine wind now blowing that landscape into a river which spills into a sea. Because it

Nike Corporation Had A Reported Revenue Of $20,900,000,000
Nike corporation had a reported revenue of $20,900,000,000 with profits of $2,100,000,000 (Keady,
2011). To obtain this cash flow, worldwide Nike is noted for employing 1,000,000 workers in 1,000
factories in fifty two countries (Keady, 2011). Adding to this idea of worker exploitation, it is reported
in Nike s corporate responsibility report in 2005 that 25% to 50% of Nike s overseas factories that
workers experienced physical, verbal, sexual, and psychological abuse (Keady, 2011). In 50% to
100% of those factories, work hours exceeded Nike s code of conduct (Keady, 2011). Finally, in 10%
to 25% of those same factories, the wage was also reported inaccurately (Keady, 2011). It is important
to understand that commodity fetishism is at play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, those at the top of the pyramid like Knight continue to get richer at the hands of the working
poor. If it were not for these workers, however, there would be no Nike, as they are the backbone to
the company for creating the Nike products.
Though Asian workers are heavily exploited through these processes, so is the consumer. Keady s
research notes that Nike spends a total of $16.25 to make a basic Nike shoe (Keady, 2011). Of that
$16.25, only $2.43 goes toward labor, while the rest goes to materials and overhead. At the
breathtaking low cost that it takes to make a Nike shoe, it demonstrates how the consumer is also
exploited in spending hundreds of dollars to purchase a shoe that costs such a low amount to make.
Mass marketing of the Nike brand causes the cost of Nike products to skyrocket. Moreover,
commodity fetishism can also relate to how the environment has the potential to be exploited or taken
advantage of. During his research in Indonesia, Keady found where literal tons of Nike shoe products
found themselves in landfills, such as rubber soles and other shoe pieces that were discarded through
various factory productions. In an attempt to mask these ongoing problems, Nike can be depicted as
trying to create other initiatives. To counter the Nike trash talk, Nike created the Reuse a shoe program
in 2002, where Nike pledged to recycle 2 million shoes of any brand annually (Keady, 2011). These

The Influence Of The Film Zootopia
In films, emotion plays an important element. It s a powerful yet a simple way to capture the audience.
Good screenwriters can create scenes that help the viewers relate to a character by incorporating
emotion which forms a meaningful bond with the audience that helps make a film more engaging and
enjoyable to watch. This is observable in virtually any film, whether it s a live action film with real
actors or an animation film by Disney where all the characters are born with a writing utensil on a
canvas. With further contribution and guidance from the director, adding additional cinematography
elements such as camera position and lighting techniques help enhance the emotion that the director
wants the audience to see in their films. Byron Howard and Rich Moore s clever usage of long shot
along with low and high key lighting in their animated film Zootopia help enrich emotional empathy
of the two main characters Judy and Nick reestablishing their broken friendship.
The camera distance known as long shots is, a shot that shows the full human body, usually filling the
frame (Barsam and Monahan 499). Long shots are typically used for scale reference in scenes due to it
comprise of some surrounding environment. Another use for long shots is to prevent the shot from
being dominated by only one person or object.
In Byron Howard and Rich Moore s Zootopia long shot provide information to the viewers on the
location of the characters and the relative scale of the location.

Extremely Flammable Gas Station Research Paper
These warning signs were pasted onto several gas pumps at a Smiths gas station, located in North Las
Vegas on Nellis and Stewart. The hazard in question is the Extremely Flammable gasoline, and the
signs are warning against the usage of electronics, cigarettes, static, running your motor while using
the gas pump, and any other items that could spark a fire and possibly lead to a massive explosion of
fire. Overall, the signs were easy to understand, but only if the person reading them can read and
comprehend English. Anyone who does not could face a bit of a problem. A quick hunt around the gas
station proved that no other linguistic translations were readily available. The pictures on one of the
signs, however, were not as easy to decipher

How Interest Groups Have On Preserving The Environment
As previously discussed in the lectures and readings, there are many types of interest groups. For
example, chapter three describes the four types of interest groups which are associational,
institutional, non associational, and anomic (Danziger, 72).While identifying various types of interest
groups, including their functions and constraints, this analysis will discuss the impact that interest
groups have on preserving the environment in Florida. A concluding discussion of the global
commons, which refers to the sharing of the earth s resources (McCoy, Problematique Lecture), will
be used to argue in defense that even though in times of crisis, humanitarian rights must always take
precedence over that of state sovereignty, which refers to the idea that each state has complete
authority and is the ultimate source if law within its own boundaries (Danziger,114). Interests groups
can be many things, such as a group of individuals who focus on preserving the culture of something
or the wellbeing of something. But when talking about that of Political Interest groups, its definition is
then changed into a group of people that share the common objective of attempting to influence the
allocation of public values. But such groups can use a variety of strategies to achieve this purpose
(Danzinger, 69). The difference between
Interest groups and political parties is that a political party, even though still an organization of people
which seeks to achieve goals common

Everyone knows what animal testing is, it doesn’t matter...
Everyone knows what animal testing is, it doesn t matter who you are. Some are for it, others are
against it. I happen to be one of the ones against it. Let me give you 4 reasons why animal testing is a
horrible idea. One, there are obviously ethical reasons, as well as religious reasons. Two, the idea of
animal testing when we can grow artificial skins is moronic. Three, tests made on animals can lead to
wrong or inconclusive results. Fourth, the scientist themselves.
The religious reasons are most obvious. Buddhist are very against cruelty to any race, species,
animals, people everything. Christians should also be against the cruelty to anything because of their
God creating everything, but they refuse to believe animals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As said by Ellen DeGeneres in My Point... And I Do Have One If you want to test cosmetics, why do
it on some poor animal that hasn t done anything? They should use prisoners who have been convicted
of murder or rape instead. So, rather than seeing if perfume irritates a bunny rabbit s eyes, they should
throw it in Charles Manson s eyes and ask him if it hurts.
Animals are not exactly like us. Sure they can find similarities, rabbits for eye products, apes for
reactions. But we will never find an animal exactly like us. As said by Agnes Ryan in For the Church
Door, Wars will never cease while men still kill other animals for food, for to turn any living creature
into a roast, a steak, a chop, or any other type of meat takes the same kind of violence, the same kind
of bloodshed, and the same kind of mental processes required to change a living man into a dead
soldier. And another quote from Michael Tobias in Rage and Reason, I remember one bobcat they had
in here now bobcats are an endangered species in this neck of the woods they d caught it somewhere
and they must have put that cat through a dozen rounds of burn experiments before they finally
determined that it was utterly useless to them. Like an empty beer can. And then you know what they
did to it? Claudius was late for a lunch date so rather than put the destroyed but still breathing animal

How Did Indiana Become A State
The history of Indiana is very important to why Indiana became a state. Some things in that history
includes the early life, Post Revolution, and recent history. The early life of Indiana includes the
Native Americans, Settlers, and the wars that happened. There were many tribes in Indiana. Some of
the most important tribes were the Miami people and the Pokagon band of Potawatomi Indians. The
Miami tribe spook Miami Illinois, it is an Algonquian language. The men in the Miami tribe hunted
buffalo and made forest fires so the big animals would come to them. The Miami tribe originally lived
in Indiana, Illinois, and Southern Michigan. The Potawatomi Indians spook Central Algonquin. The

Here are some things a racer should know if he/she is racing. 1. Participants should know the weight
of the car with the surroundings inside the car. 2. Participants should know how much of weight they

be careful.
There were many famous racers in the Indy 500. There were male racers and female racers who have

  • 2. What Does Still I Rise Represent The first part of my visual representation of the poem Still I Rise is a Taraxacum Officinale, more commonly known as the dandelion. These flowers are widely established to have a negative connotation; perhaps, they upset the aesthetics of a well manicured lawn. In any case, this is the same for Maya Angelou in Still I Rise. In the middle of the 20th century, African Americans were the victims of discrimination because they were different; they were of color and the dominant whites believed they did not fit in. Furthermore, from a biological perspective, dandelions are uncontrollably successful. These once inconspicuous spring flowers have spread to vast regions of the continent, and have dominated the native flora. This is similar to the poem because up until the middle of the 1960s, African Americans were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These intrepid flowers are the first to blossom, symbolizing confidence and fearlessness, as did Maya Angelou when she stood up for African Americans in Still I Rise . This lilac is blue, rather than the typical purple because blue represents confidence: the sky will always be there, the waves will always rise. These phenomena are reliable and stable, both of which are characteristics that encourage confidence. Similarly, Maya only pushes through her challenges by having a confident and self respectful stance. Furthermore, Surrounding the lilac is an ocean of concrete. This symbolizes all the oppression, persecution, and tyranny African Americans have suffered. Yet, the lilac still stands confidently further supporting the theme of Still I Rise : confidence triumphs over any obstacle. Lastly, I depicted a cloudless daybreak in the background with the ideal colors yellow and orange. This setting symbolizes the end of brutal hardships and personifies the resilience of the sun Maya and the lilac had to conjure to triumph over their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sophocles Oedipus the King and Cocteau s The Infernal Machine Sophocles Oedipus the King and Cocteau s The Infernal Machine relate the same story, yet from quite different angles. Sophocles play is written in heightened language and spends 1,530 lines on an hour of time. On the other hand, Cocteau s characters speak colloquially, and his 96 pages cover 17 years, putting much more emphasis on the events prior to where Sophocles begins his play. • 8. Historical Analysis Of The Zoot Suit, By Luiz Valdez Zoot Suit was written by Luiz Valdez and published in 1978. The story is based on the Sleepy Lagoon murder trials of the 1940s and follows protagonist Henry Reyna. This play deals with the intercultural conflicts between Henry s generation and his parent s, as well as those between Mexican Americans and white Americans. Mexican and American culture is effortlessly blended to show the transcultural influences on Henry and his group of friends. In this historical analysis, I will not only be looking at what historical events influenced this play and the author, but how this play uses those historical influences to showcase the battle of cultural expression in 1940s Los Angeles. Los Angeles was undergoing severe demographic changes in the early 1940 s. Mexican refugees were escaping the Mexican Revolution, farmers were fleeing the Dust bowl, and American servicemen rushed to Los Angeles because of World War II ( People Events ). The economy was booming from the war as American production increased and the youth was appreciating jazz culture and began wearing zoot suits, just like in the play. Because of the Sleepy Lagoon murders, the zoot suit was associated with Mexican violence. Eventually, fights escalated between the rebelling Mexican American youth and Marines because the racial tensions. This led to the Zoot Suit Riots of 1943 that left hundreds injured. • 14. Major Differences In The Movie 300 THIS IS SPARTA a famous quote from the movie 300 (2006) about the ferocious battles of the Greco Persian wars across the western Mediterranean. Persia was the dominant empire of this time because of conquering and expanding borders. They had the largest army of the time with around 700,000 800,000 soldiers. Sparta on the other hand was a smaller still powerful city state with highly trained Military personnel. I think there are many minor differences that alter and change the way you see the battle. Some of those minor changes in the movie not in the real battle are the Persians used rhinos and elephants to ride into battle, Xerxes does not go into battle as seen in the movie and the Spartans did not fight with any armor unlike the real battle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within the mighty Persian empire they never had any animals used for combat. During the hiding in the shade scene, it showed the Persian archers shooting of what looks to be one million plus arrows which is a huge overstatement because for one there was never that many arrows to block out the sun, and second the wooden arrows would not stick in the metal shields the Spartans held. Another minor difference within the battle was in the movie it showed Xerxes in the front lines of the battle. In the movie Xerxes Talked to Leonidas and even reasoned for him to be warlord of Sparta and obviously Leonidas refused. In reality Xerxes was far behind enemy lines where he couldn t get a spear in the cheek. Xerxes was also never that tall or never wore those clothes he was much shorter, fatter and wore fine silk clothes. Last minor difference was in the movie the Spartan soldiers were almost naked when going into battle. Fairy tales read to young children not only served as a form of entertainment for the child, but they also taught children the difference between what is good and what is bad. The Three Little Pigs is a prime example of the morals and lessons that children were taught while reading a fairy tale. The fact that the tale is equipped with adventure and the ability for animals to talk causes children to immerse in the text while acknowledging the consequences of laziness of the first two little pigs and the result of evil for the sneakiness of the big bad wolf. The tale does however teach children the benefits of hard work when at the end the third pig lives happily ever after in his sturdy house made of bricks. Comparing three different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tales today have much more pleasant ending and children most likely will not be as frightened but instead learn the moral lessons that the tale is trying to portray through its vivid illustrations and excessive amount of repetition. The first version of the Three Little Pigs that I analyzed was by Paul Gadon and it closely mimicked the original version of the tale. When reading the tale I was baffled by some of the events that took place. Growing up my mother made sure that I did not read any material that she felt would give me nightmares or would give me a negative way of thinking. Because I was forced to read the revised version I never knew the truth behind the tale until just recently. In Gadon s version the first two little pigs surprisingly get eaten by the big bad wolf. Witnessing the two pigs get eaten by the wolf was very tragic and without a doubt left me in shock. This version of the tale shows children that the consequences of lazy work results in terrible consequences. Were the houses falling down not enough? Why did they have to get eaten? Does this brutal act change the thinking of Children? Because it is scientifically proven that children often repeat what they here or act out what they see I must agree with Mrs. Trimmer that the original version of many fairy tales may have a negative effect on children. • 16. The First College Football Game On November 6, 1869 what was coined as the first college football game was played between Rutgers and Princeton. Later in the 1880s, Walter Camp, a rugby player from Yale, helped shape the rules that we now have in American Football. From then the game has evolved immensely and I want to help you understand it. The basic rules are the most important part of every game, but are extra important in football. Every drive for the offense will start with the opposing team kicking the ball off. If the ball is kicked out of the back of the end zone, that will result in a touchback, which means the offense starts on their own 20 yard line. A football field is 100 yards long with two end zones on each end. Each half you have what is considered your end zone which your defense will try to keep the other team s offense from scoring touchdowns or field goals in. A touchdown is 6 points plus an extra point kick that is one point or a two point conversion that are rarer and harder to convert. A field goal can be kicked at any point on offense is 3 points. So if you are on your own side of the 50 yard line, you would say you are on your own 20, 25, 30, ect. If you have the ball on you own 20 yard line it would be pretty difficult to make it 80 yards in the 4 plays you are given. That s why you can earn what is called a first down every 10 yards. An offense has four plays to gain 10 yards to get a first down or the ball is turned over on downs, which means the other team will receive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Feminism And The Feminist Movement Feminism is a movement that I have never really claimed myself to be a part. I have nothing against those who want to stand for what they believe in, but I think there s a way it should be done. Feminism is something that I have questioned a lot and have looked into. I am completely for women feeling empowered; however, I find many things that I disagree with when it comes to the feminist movement. I ve listed five of them: 1. Feminists tend to paint the picture like men are the only problem. It seems as if it s easier to put the blame on men. Why do we have to bash men who are doing their jobs? As women, we find it disrespectful when men use derogatory terms towards us; however, it s okay for women to use the same derogatory terms. In my opinion, it s not okay. Feminists also seem to see one side to certain issues. For example, feminists do not see men as being victims of domestic violence. Men are not always the abusers and I think that is is very reactionary to have this belief. Why is that if a woman does this action then there is a reason that follows. It doesn t make it right and this makes feminists come across as being hypocritical. You have men who do the right thing and they are degraded. Do you honestly want the responsibility of a man? 2. When it comes to oppression we haven t necessarily faced oppression like women in other countries. We can complain about the job market and how we should get certain pay and jobs, but there are women dealing with far worse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When it comes to the argument the Democratic party stands on stronger gun laws that will lead to more regulations and less gun sales, while the Republican party leans the other way with less regulation and more legal gun owners. Many feared the laws that could have been put in place. In eleven states at least 10 percent of the adults possess carry permits (French). The total in the last two years has also taken a large jump from 12.8 million to 16.36 million Americans with carry permits. This number is also not 100% accurate considering the fact that 14 states have passed laws stating that you do not need a permit to carry a firearm. This will increase the total number of Americans carrying firearms, but there is no way of telling because there is not an official listing. With the increase in concealed carry permits, there has also been a large increase in firearm sales. From 2008 to 2011, there were about 14 million firearms sold in the United States, while over 20 million were sold between 2012 and 2013, and about a quarter were sold to first time buyers (Howell). A 2000 Gallup Poll found that 35 percent of Americans thought that owning a gun made their home safer. By 2014 that number soared to 63 percent (Howell). This helps to illustrate the complex nature of humans and their relationships. While Doc generally speaks proper English, the bums have a rough manner of speaking. Additionally, Lee Chong s voice has a significant lack of a certain letter. According to the narrator, He spoke a stately English without ever using the letter r (5 6). One example of this is when Mack comes to make a deal with him on the Palace Flophouse and Grill, Lee says You like pay lent my place? (10). • 22. Irony In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury Anatole France once said, Irony is the gaiety of reflection and the joy of wisdom. Ray Bradbury uses multiple examples of irony in his novel. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the story takes place in a futuristic dystopian society, where books are illegal. In this society, people spend most of their time watching TV and they hardly talk to anyone. Guy Montag is a fireman who burns books. He is content with his job, until he meets a young girl named Clarisse who is different from the rest of society, which causes him to think. When he later witnesses an old woman burning herself with her books, Montag feels guilty about his job. He secretly tries to preserve books, which causes some problems for him because it is illegal. Through the help of an old man named Faber, Montag is able to preserve some books and later starts to build a new society. Bradbury clearly uses many examples of irony such as the different role of firemen in the society, Montag going against his duty, and the society being burned in the end. One irony that Bradbury uses in Fahrenheit 451 is the different role of firemen in the society. The firemen in this society are very different from the firemen in our society. For example, when Montag told Clarisse that he was a fireman, Clarisse asked, Is it true that long ago firemen put fires out instead of going to start them? (Bradbury 8). Clarisse heard that firemen used to extinguish fires instead of starting them, but Montag disagrees. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Investigating The Logic Behind Mergers And Merger Between... Scholars have developed theories that have attempted to explain the logic behind mergers and takeover. DePamphilis (2010) notes that there are several theories and hypothesis linked to mergers and takeovers some of which include efficiency theory, agency theory, diversification hypothesis and market power hypothesis. This paper will analyze the efficiency and agency theories on the merger between the US Airways Group and the AMR Corporations that led to the creation of American Airlines Group Inc. (AAL) because they offer an appropriate rationale for the merger based on the outcome. According to Risberg (2013), the efficiency theory argues that mergers are organizational strategies that are implemented to achieve three types of synergies, namely financial synergy, operational synergy and managerial synergy. Generally, the acquirer firm will have considered the target s capable assets and resources and presume that they can be beneficial to its own development. The synergy concept reinforces this idea when it comes to mergers. For instance, the synergy concept argues that mergers allow the combining of the efficient parts of the companies and the discarding of parts that are considered redundant. Johnson (2014) observes that synergy occurs in varying ways, for instance, when companies combine their different competitive advantages, potential tax benefit, or high manpower. Any factor that raises the market value of the merging firms is called a synergy. This means that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The news about that spread all around Europe and caused much chaos. It was the source of fear and panic among the European lords and Christians (Graham Campbell, 1980).The Vikings appeared from nowhere, killed people, robbed the monasteries and vanished. They were so impetuous that were considered to be irresistible tribes. Their actions were described as insulting, appalling and often immoral. They were called pagan marauder seamen (Graham Campbell, 1980). The early writings about the Vikings (Richards, 2005) make us aware of the fact that their raids on Europe were mostly devastating and ruinous. In just the past two months, there have been four hurricanes that made landfall in North America, and a wildfire more aggressive than has ever been seen before, ripping through California, killing forty people and leveling almost six thousand structures. In this margin, Fermat wrote that there were no positive integers that can fill in x, y, and z of xn+yn=zn, where n represents a number higher than two. They don t belong in the past so there is a path that they all have to stay on so they don t mess up the future. Disregarding the instructions, Eckels accidentally steps off the path and squishes a butterfly which changes many things in the future. • 40. How to Reduce Employee Turnover with Motivation 1. Introduction Nowadays, a word is very popular in white collars. It is luo ci in Chinese, which means people leaving their current work without a new job. With the development of society and the improvement of the level of people s life, the phenomenon of luo ci become more and more common. As we know, the employee turnover of hospitality industry is quite higher than other industries. In 2004, Wildes warned that hospitality would face a significant work force deficit of quality managers in the near future. Not only is there a shrinking labor pool due to other industries attracting our potential managers (i.e., retail, banking, and healthcare) (American Express, 2006), but turnover continues to be a significant problem. Therefore, those hotels always focus on those employees who have high education, and give them higher position and more training, often send them to study and investigate. And those hostellers think that only they can bring benefits for the hotels, while ignore the importance of primary level organizations. Thus, sometimes, the primary level employees think their abilities cannot be confirmed and their jobs cannot meet their sense of achievement. • 41. Ford Pinto Failure Introduction This memo is a failure analysis report on the Ford Pinto automobile accidents. On 28th May, 1972 a 1972 Ford Pinto car (manufactured by Ford Motors) burst into flames after a 30 Miles Per Hour (mph) collision caused an immediate fire burning down the car killing the driver, Lily Gray (Leggett, Christopher 1999). According to public record, more than 500 people have been killed from Ford Pinto crash burnings (Dowie, Mark 1977). The ensuing sections of this report outline the events leading up to the design and production of faulty Ford Pintos, the rationale behind the failure, and the lessons that can be grasped from this failure. On the other hand, the failure was caused by a questionable cost benefit analysis which gave little importance to the safety of drivers and passengers. By putting a monetary value to car burnings and deaths, Ford concluded that they would make larger revenue by producing a car that did not need adequate safety designs. Lessons to be Learned The designers and engineers working on the Ford Pinto were aware of the results of the crash tests and the possibility of the gas tank rupturing. However, they did not redesign the fuel system or add any protection between the bumper and the gas tank in the final design. Management pressure can be used to suppress concerns, however, as engineers, the code of ethics requires that all engineers must be dedicated towards safety, protection and welfare of people, and should not give consent to any design with potentially dangerous consequences. Moreover, it is apparent the rupturing of gas tanks was caused by the failure of a small part of a large mechanism. It is important to make sure that no design feature is ignored or treated as trivial in an engineering project; every part and every design must work efficiently and safely in order to be used by society. Lastly, no factor should be placed above safety in our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To obtain this cash flow, worldwide Nike is noted for employing 1,000,000 workers in 1,000 factories in fifty two countries (Keady, 2011). Adding to this idea of worker exploitation, it is reported in Nike s corporate responsibility report in 2005 that 25% to 50% of Nike s overseas factories that workers experienced physical, verbal, sexual, and psychological abuse (Keady, 2011). In 50% to 100% of those factories, work hours exceeded Nike s code of conduct (Keady, 2011). Finally, in 10% to 25% of those same factories, the wage was also reported inaccurately (Keady, 2011). Here, those at the top of the pyramid like Knight continue to get richer at the hands of the working poor. If it were not for these workers, however, there would be no Nike, as they are the backbone to the company for creating the Nike products. Though Asian workers are heavily exploited through these processes, so is the consumer. Keady s research notes that Nike spends a total of $16.25 to make a basic Nike shoe (Keady, 2011). Of that $16.25, only $2.43 goes toward labor, while the rest goes to materials and overhead. At the breathtaking low cost that it takes to make a Nike shoe, it demonstrates how the consumer is also exploited in spending hundreds of dollars to purchase a shoe that costs such a low amount to make. Mass marketing of the Nike brand causes the cost of Nike products to skyrocket. Moreover, commodity fetishism can also relate to how the environment has the potential to be exploited or taken advantage of. During his research in Indonesia, Keady found where literal tons of Nike shoe products found themselves in landfills, such as rubber soles and other shoe pieces that were discarded through various factory productions. In an attempt to mask these ongoing problems, Nike can be depicted as trying to create other initiatives. To counter the Nike trash talk, Nike created the Reuse a shoe program in 2002, where Nike pledged to recycle 2 million shoes of any brand annually (Keady, 2011). These millions of ... • 46. The Influence Of The Film Zootopia In films, emotion plays an important element. It s a powerful yet a simple way to capture the audience. Good screenwriters can create scenes that help the viewers relate to a character by incorporating emotion which forms a meaningful bond with the audience that helps make a film more engaging and enjoyable to watch. This is observable in virtually any film, whether it s a live action film with real actors or an animation film by Disney where all the characters are born with a writing utensil on a canvas. With further contribution and guidance from the director, adding additional cinematography elements such as camera position and lighting techniques help enhance the emotion that the director wants the audience to see in their films. Byron Howard and Rich Moore s clever usage of long shot along with low and high key lighting in their animated film Zootopia help enrich emotional empathy of the two main characters Judy and Nick reestablishing their broken friendship. • 48. How Interest Groups Have On Preserving The Environment As previously discussed in the lectures and readings, there are many types of interest groups. For example, chapter three describes the four types of interest groups which are associational, institutional, non associational, and anomic (Danziger, 72).While identifying various types of interest groups, including their functions and constraints, this analysis will discuss the impact that interest groups have on preserving the environment in Florida. A concluding discussion of the global commons, which refers to the sharing of the earth s resources (McCoy, Problematique Lecture), will be used to argue in defense that even though in times of crisis, humanitarian rights must always take precedence over that of state sovereignty, which refers to the idea that each state has complete authority and is the ultimate source if law within its own boundaries (Danziger,114). Interests groups can be many things, such as a group of individuals who focus on preserving the culture of something or the wellbeing of something. But when talking about that of Political Interest groups, its definition is then changed into a group of people that share the common objective of attempting to influence the allocation of public values. But such groups can use a variety of strategies to achieve this purpose (Danzinger, 69). The difference between Interest groups and political parties is that a political party, even though still an organization of people which seeks to achieve goals common ... Sure they can find similarities, rabbits for eye products, apes for reactions. But we will never find an animal exactly like us.
