3. What is gene?
• A part of DNA that is located on the
chromosomes in the linear order and usually
control the development of a single character
at a time.
4. Allele?
• Modified form of same gene producing
different verities on the same basic character.
6. Heterozygous
• A hybrid having two different alleles is called
heterozygous.
e.g
R r
Homozygous
Both gene of pair belong to same specific verity
of allele.
e.g R R
7. Recessive
• An allele of gene which is unable to express
itself in heterozygous condition.
e.g R r
Dominant
An allele of gene which is express itself in
heterozygous condition.
e.g
R r
8. Genotype
• Some total of a gene present in an individual
at the birth time is called genotype.
Phenotype
Appearance of an individual produced by the
interaction of genotype environment is called
phenotype.
9. Gene Expression & Regulation
• G.expression is the process by which genetic
code, the nucleotide sequence of gene is used
to direct protein synthesis and produce the
structure of cell.
10. • Gene expression is most fundamental level at
which the genotype give rise to the
phenotype.
• Genetic code is stored in DNA is interpreted by
the gene expression and the properties of the
expression give rise to the organism
phenotype these are expressed organism
shape , height etc.
11. Imp of G.expression & regulation
• Gene expression regulate through out the life
span of prokaryote and eukaryotic cell.
• Total DNA or whole genome is never
expressed at any given time.
• Cancer is due to mutation of gene expression.
Gene expression in specific tissue
Expression depend on the specific tissue,
express insulin, express in the pancreas but
not other tisues. Urea express in liver.
