Daniel Bukvich Symphony 1 Essay
In 1978, Daniel Bukvich composed a piece named Symphony No. 1 (In Memoriam Dresden, 1945) .
The composition depicts the 1945 allied bombings of Dresden, Germany. Mr. Bukvich needed to
compose a song for his master s thesis dealing with contemporary notation, he chose to base it off of
the bombings of Dresden. The four different movements describe four different stages of the
bombings. Different sounds and notations are also used to recreate the setting of the panic and fear
that was felt at the time.
On February 13 14, 1945, the city of Dresden, Germany was a victim of allied bombings. In 1978,
Symphony No. 1 was composed as part of a master thesis project dealing with contemporary notation
(rather than regular notation, contemporary is more symbolic, improvisational, and graphic). The piece
contains non traditional sounds, and uses Duke Ellington s famous chords (C, E, Db, and G harmonic
and melodic chords result) to recreate the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prologue establishes the mood of the impending disaster; Seeds In The Wind refers to the method of
seeding the bomb targets with jellied gasoline and incendiaries, this movement also portrays the fury
of the attack; Ave Maria reflects upon the religious and artistic heritage of Dresden and becomes a
prayer for the victims; Fire Storm (Feuer Sturm) , in this movement, the sounds of fire and bombs are
recreated. The last movement serves as a resolution to the build up in the previous three movements.
The four movements are also performed in different lighting. Prologue has regular lighting, Seeds in
the Wind has red lighting, to show the fury of the bombers. Ave Maria has a light blue lighting, to
show that there is grieving and sadness, but also is interpreted as there being hope on the horizon. Fire
Storm is performed in complete darkness, the only light visible is a very small light on the conductor s
stand so the band can see the

Huntington Disease Research Paper
Most of the carriers of Huntington disease are usually childhood victims (Donaldson, Marsden,
Schneider, Bhatia, 2012). From this point of view, an increase in the length of the CAG section causes
the production of an abnormal form of the Huntington protein (Donaldson, Marsden, Schneider,
Bhatia, 2012). The lengthened defective protein is then cut into smaller and defective fragments that
bind neurons together, which in turn disrupts their required functions of the brain. The abnormal
functioning leads to eventual death of the neurons in some regions within the brain, which in turn
leads to the symptoms of Huntington disease (Marks Neill, 2007).
Inheritance
Huntington disease is featured by an autosomal inheritance that is dominant,

Comparison Of Friends And The Big Bang Theory
The TV series Friends and The Big Bang Theory are two of my favorites series. The television show
Friends exhibits six main characters, consisting of three males (Ross, Chandler, and Joey) and three
females (Monica, Rachel, and Phoebe). Ross role is based on his scientific knowledge and the
importance of his values and his passion for his work. However, every time someone does not agree
with him or believes in something else than science, he feels that not only his career but also his
personal identity is challenged. He is stubborn and has a hard time admitting that people have different
points of view. He has been three times married, has a kid with his ex lesbian wife who remarried to a
woman. Then there is Chandler who at the beginning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The TV show exhibits seven characters, consisting of four males (Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, and
Raj) and three females (Penny, Bernadette, and Amy). Sheldon is the child prodigy who started
college when he was not even a teenager. He has an obsessive compulsive personality disorder of
performing specific activities on specific days and at a specific time, any disruption will distress him
enormously. He has a superiority complex and does not hide his contempt for others peoples intellects
which result in hurtful and inappropriate comments. Leonard is Sheldon s roommate and unlike
Sheldon, he is interested in building interpersonal and social relationships with the rest of the
characters. He comes from a family of well known and successful people while he is the only one who
has not reached that point in life yet. Howard is the creepy Jewish guy who tries to flirt with every girl
he meets. He still lives with his mother and has a hard time compromising to his religion s norms. Raj
is the foreign member of the crew, he comes from India and considers himself exotic. At the beginning

drunk. Unlike his friends, Raj is perceived as homosexual because of his particular feminine interests
and his close friendship with Howard, although, he considers himself

Technological Advances And Its Impact On The United States
From the time when the first English colonies were established in North America until now, there has
been some form of armed fighting force in place to protect the interests of the United States and its
colonial progenitors. During the roughly four centuries in which this fighting force has existed, it has
undergone numerous changes of varying degrees of significance. Technological advances have
changed the nature of both defensive and offensive warfare, political advances have changed the
nature of the relationship between the civilian population and its protectors, and geostrategic shifts
have changed the role of the United States military with respect to the rest of the world. The most
lasting and meaningful changes have occurred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conflict that eventually grew into King William s War would provide one of the first opportunities
for fighters from different colonies to cooperate in a larger military conflict on behalf of the English
Empire, and also to develop a sense of resentment toward the Crown for its perceived failure to defend
the colonies adequately (Williams, pp. 23 24). The colonists had inherited their ancestors distrust of a
standing army, primarily since they saw such an army as a tool for the repression of liberty (Flashnick,
Week 1). After the failure of the English army to assist the colonial fighters to any meaningful degree
during King William s War, this distrust was confirmed and amplified. Two long term effects of the
conflict were that it reinforced the American preference for the citizen soldier and, by virtue of forcing
cooperation between the colonies, it paved the way for what would eventually become a united
continental army. Queen Anne s War was the second successive conflict during this period of
transition for the colonial armed forces. The colonies once again were forced to cooperate militarily,
this time to an even greater extent than had been the case during King William s War. This second war
involved more of the colonies than had previously fought together at any time, albeit with a substantial
degree of reluctance on the part of many, and

Family In Sophocles Antigone
Camille Issa
Dr. Turnbull
English 1 Honors; P.7
16 October 2017
Family Comes First
Imagine being put in a situation where honor towards your own blood opposes the law. In the city
state of Thebes, King Creon issues a law that bans the burial of Polyneices. The dead man s sister, a
young woman named Antigone, buries her brother against King Creon s blessings. Antigone s
courageous actions lead her to her own fatal death. Sophocles emphasizes the importance of choosing
family over authority in his play Antigone .
Regardless of the punishment, Antigone contradicts the laws in order to pay her brother respect. King
Creon clearly informs everyone on the consequences of tampering with the corpse of Polynices,
Antigone s brother. Antigone argues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Creon initially forbids any sort of honor towards the body of Polyneices. Because of his rational
decision, a series of deaths occur. Creon yells to the Chorus, Mistakes from thoughtless thoughts,
stubborn and deadly! (59). Unfortunately, his loved ones had to die in order for him to realize that his
choice was a mistake. He should have realized that there is a difference between a ruthless leader and
a caring leader; mistakenly, he chooses to be a ruthless leader by neglecting the importance of family.
Sophocles tries to push upon the reader that the law should come second to family. Antigone involves
herself in a whole lot of trouble with the law in order to pursue her desire to commemorate her brother
s tragic death. Not only does Antigone prioritize family but her sister, Ismene, does too. Ismene
willingly sacrifices her life in order to support her sister in her downfall. King Creon feels remorseful
about being uncompromising; he prioritizes the law which ultimately leads to his own family
perishing. Defend boundaries of loved ones without hesitation, otherwise, the world would fill with

To Forget The Holocaust Is To Kill Twice By Elie Wiesel
To forgot the holocaust is to kill twice , is a statement made by Elie wiesel, a famous american
romanian author who survived the holocaust. In this statement, he wants to portray that us people
should continue to learn about the holocaust and not just forget about it because if we do just forget
about it, we would be dishonoring the victims. He wrote many books describing his time before,
during and after the holocaust. Livia Bitton Jackson did the same thing. During the holocaust, Livia
experienced being transferred to ghettos, labor camps, and ultimately the concentration camp
Auschwitz. Auschwitz was called the camp of death. Even though Livia went through a terrible

Mental Health Treatment Plan
Veterans who have been deployed to combat and endured trauma display higher levels of emotional
distress and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (Yarvis, 2013). Moreover, the exposure to traumatic
events over the lifespan relates to issues that impact the individual by a wide range of mental health
problems (Briere Scott, 2012). The VA offers a vast majority of mental health services, however there
are particular interventions that are not offered because there aren t enough medical practitioners

Australian Kooala s Natural Habitats
As an Australian native marsupial, the koala has been listed as endangered across majority of its
natural habitats. At one point, its population had grown to almost 10 million, but has dropped to
100,000 or less still in the wild because of human activity. Many have taken action to restore the
population of the koala. The koala s background proves that their population decline is effected mainly
on humans. Numerous people refer to the koala as a koala bear, but in reality it is a marsupial, similar
to a wombat. It is found in the Australian states of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South
Australia. This nocturnal animal lives mostly in eucalyptus forests where its main food source is the
leaves of the tree. Without disturbance, the koala can live up to 15 years. While it may have no natural
predators in the wild, it does have exposed skin on its face, hands, and feet which can make it
vulnerable to fires and further threaten the population. Although other factors like fires harm koalas,
humans have the most impact on the koala. The koala may not be ... Show more content on

What I Know About Islam Essay
During the 11 years that I lived in India, I had two Christian friends. I never asked them what kind of
Christians they were as I was unaware of the existence of the different sects of Christianity. I am sure
they did not know either as we were too young. I am familiar with Christianity and Sikhism as I grew
up around people who followed these religions. The city that I grew up in had and still has a large
Muslim population; however, I never got a chance to learn anything about Islam. This was partly due
to the high tensions between Muslims and Hindus. I recall an incident that occurred in India during
my childhood years. I must have been 7 or 8, when riots broke out between Muslims and Hindus after
the burning of Godhra Train in the state of Gujarat. I remember hiding in a tiny room that we had on
the rooftop, where most of the women and children from my neighborhood came to hide while the
men were preparing to fight the Muslim rioters. Thank God nothing happened that night and the
information received was incorrect. Although, my views on Islam has changed as I grew older and
learned more about Islam; initially, this incident left me with a negative impression about Islam. As I
grew older, I realized that I was at fault for generalizing, not all Muslims are bad and this incident
certainly does not make Islam a violent religion. Therefore, when I was provided with the opportunity
to do immersion on other religions than my own, I chose Islam to gain deeper understanding and

hand, the American Academy of Dermatology does not use much advertisements. It encourages people

Understanding The Relationship Between Performance And...
Understanding the relationship between performance and everyday life can be grasped as a great
difference. Being able to comprehension this notion especially in acting as your own self can make a
person better understand one s self and others around them. Looking upon many written works over
my course of research, I evolve into a key of knowledge from the texts I have looked into to. From a
broad range of texts to choose from this literature review will cover the relation between the writings
and my argument. In Auto ethnography: An overview written by Carolyn Ellis, Tony E. Adams Arthur
P. Bochner, it describes auto ethnography as ... an approach to research and writing that seeks to
describe and systematically analyse (graphy) personal experience (auto) in order to understand
cultural experience (ethno). (Ellis, 2010). Referring the study of performance whilst working as an
employee this is to show my own view of my performance and the other employees whilst working at

a clear underlining of facts from work of artists movements. Other literature on Auto ethnography has
highlighted a clear interest in connection to creating dissertations. Within the text of Handbook of the

Health Plan Survey Paper
The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Health Plan Survey is a
tool used to collect standardized information that analyzes the experience of enrollees through health
plans and their services. The intent is to design a support system that assesses consumer s performance
with the health plans and it allows them to choose the plan that best suits their needs. It was first
launched in 1997 and has now become the national standard when it comes to both determining and
reporting the experiences of consumers through their health plan. Almost every state conducts this
form of standardization and sponsors within the U.S. include health plans, state agencies who regulate
health care, as well as federal agencies, such as the Department of Defense and Centers for Medicare
Medicaid Services.
The health plans are also able to examine the information gathered in order to use it to their advantage
by identifying their weaknesses to target areas of improvement and building on their strengths to
ensure efficiency. The Health Plan Survey 5.0 version is an example of a standardized measurement
system used so that questionnaires, other optional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

cosmological speculations about life and the details thereof have been highly debated from the earliest

After a successful landing for the crew, the men held to each other s elbows, suddenly unable to
breathe, it seemed. Their faces grew pale. (Bradbury 33). The men were filled with fear as to what
they saw: Mars looked exactly like the old town on Earth they all grew up in. This portrayal of setting
develops the fear of the unknown because it is the exact opposite of what Mars was believed to look
like. Bradbury goes on to set this expedition in context chronologically with the previous two mission.
Some of the men believed that Captain Williams and his crew of three men! Or Nathaniel York and his
partner. would be able to justify how they had landed in an Earthly town, but Captain Black pointed
out the York expedition was only a year ago, while Captain Williams and his men landed here some
time during last August. and William and his men, as well as York, landed on the opposite side of
Mars. (34). The men were looking for a justification as to why Mars was so Earthlike, but Bradbury
brilliantly counters all points through explicitly detailing the setting as one that could not overlap with
the present. This exudes fear of the unknown as there is no given solution as to what lies ahead of

As a result of the verse having a bar added to the end, the first phrase of both bridges have 5 bars thus

Is Scout An Important Character In To Kill A Mockingbird
Why is Scout Such an Important Character
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the most recognizable books of all time. Ever since it s July 1960
release date it has been hailed for its genius writing, relatable characters, and narration. The novel is
told through the eyes of Scout, a young girl living in the fictional Alabama town of Maycomb, and
how she develops during an important time in her childhood. Scout s character will affect the story in
many different ways. As the only narrator, all of what you know of Maycomb and its inhabitants is
through her eyes. Her childlike demeanor, strong southern accent, and personality add to the book s
charm and memorability. You will get to see her evolve as a person throughout the entire story. Scout
is not only the most memorable, but the most important.
In To Kill a Mockingbird the primary narrator of the story is Scout. All the characters, setting, and plot
are introduced by Scout. You will come to know these characters through her. Why is Scout as the
narrator so important? Simple, you are able to see Scout growing up facing these challenges internally,
instead of externally. Through this story, you understand her emotions and see her learning about the
world. This also demonstrates a major conflict she and her family face. She ultimately comes to her
own conclusions. We have all been kids once, so we can relate to Scout and her dilemma. During the

Canada s government, tried to convince the jury that Tracy had enjoyed outings... She also responded
to visits by her family... her life had value and quality (News). There are other parents who have
children with much severe disabilities yet do not come to the conclusion of ending their child s life.
Are we all up to determine the value of one s life, even if it comes down to a disability? Tracy s
parents believed so. In the second trial Laura collaborated with the defense team to paint Tracy s life

made her and Robert better people that Tracy showed them how to love (Pickup).
What Laura forgot to mention was when her husband was found guilty of raping a 15 year old girl in
1973. However, the case was overturned by the Judge Noble, very judge who supported Robert

A Child With Down Syndrome
Piaget believed that children went through stages of development at specific times. Child development
is the biological and psychological changes that occur in human beings between birth and
adolescence. Typical development refers to the milestones that a child reaches at a particular time
during child development. Atypical development refers to not typical; not conforming to the type;
irregular; abnormal: atypical behavior. Down syndrome is characterized as a chromosomal condition
in which an individual possesses extra genetic material, specifically an extra complete or partial
duplicate of chromosome 21 in some or all of an individual s cells. During the developmental stages, a
child with Down syndrome will experience developmental delays in the areas of motor development,
cognitive development, language development, and social and emotional development. Down
syndrome is identified at birth and is a common condition.
Characteristics of Down Syndrome Children with Down syndrome have physical characteristics that
resemble a family member. A child with Down syndrome may have a face that is slightly broader with
a flatter nasal bridge. The eyes may slant upward and appear to have a small fold of skin on the inner
corners called epicanthal folds. The mouth may be small which may cause the tongue to appear large
and protrude due to poor muscle tone. The ears are small and their hands and feet are smaller. The
palms of the hands might have a single crease across it called

Similarities Between Animal Farm And Animal Farm
Two visions; Different Results
In George Orwell s novel Animal Farm he asserts that following blindly , will lead to government
abuse and corruption. Orwell s assertion brings life to the philosophy that a utopian atmosphere can
never exist. Orwell s purpose is to deliver the idea of communism not being successful and to make
the audience reading not want to get into communism. George Orwell informs the young audience of
the danger with communism. Orwell was a very cynical individual when it came to writing Animal
Farm . There were many similarities and differences between Martin Luther King Jr. and the character,
Old Major in Animal Farm. One similar political equality between the two figures is they both had a
vision or dream of inspiring the masses of people to dream of a better future. between two groups of
people. Despite having so many similarities between the two there are also several differences as well.
Such as, the animals had different rights to fight for, for example, the animals were being overworked
by Mr. Jones and they were not receiving enough food. On the other side, the blacks, during the
Martin Luther King Jr. time period, were not able to go in the same bathroom as whites. The Blacks
had restrictions to their rights in the idea of not being able to pursue certain circumstances as the
whites did.
The historical figure Martin Luther King Jr. had many similarities and differences with the character in
Animal Farm, Old Major. Both individuals had visions of rebellion but Martin Luther had the
mentality of peaceful rebellion, while olf major wanted violence. The significant events between
Martin Luther King Jr. and Old Major was the Beasts of England speech and the I have a Dream
speech. Old Major used Beasts of England to show the animals his vision or dream for the farm. Also,
Martin Luther King Jr. used I have a Dream to bring light to the idea of black rights. Old Major and
Martin Luther King Jr. both had both a goal in their mind for what they want there atmosphere to be.
In Animal Farm, the speech Beasts of England was used and it said Beasts of England, Beasts of

The Impact Of Clustering Methods For Pricing A Large...
The Impact of Clustering Method for Pricing a Large Portfolio of VA Policies 1 Variable Annuity
Variable annuities(VAs) are popular life insurance products in the insurance industry. VAs are long
term contracts designed for offering post retirement income (Bacinelloa, Millossovich, Olivieri,
Pitacco, 2011). VAs have attractive features such as dynamic investment opportunity and guarantees
against the investment and early death risks. A single premium or recurrent premiums from
policyholders are invested into the different risk return portfolio decided by the policyholders. There
are different reference funds in each different risk return portfolio. Different risk return portfolio can

However, these risks interact each other and the iteraction is not fully understood. Appropriate risk
management is required. Pricing and hedging of guarantees is the major concern of the contract
design. This risk should be considered during the process of pricing. For example, Bacinelloa,
Millossovich, Olivieri and Pitacco(2011) introduced a unifying valuation approach for VAs depending
on different assumptions of policyholder behavior 1.1Guaranteed Minimum Benefits There are two
main classes of guarantees: Guaranteed Minimum Death Benefit (GMDB)and Guaranteed Minimum
Living Benefit (GMLB). There are three types of benefits in GMLB: Guaranteed Minimum
Accumulation Benefit (GMAB), Guaranteed Minimum Income Benefit (GMIB), Guaranteed
Minimum Withdrawal Benefit (GMWB). The simplest form of guaranteed benefit is Guaranteed
Minimum Accumulation Benefit, it provides a minimum account value at maturity. Usually, the
minimum account value is the initial premium amount. It gives the policyholders the chance of
renewing account value at maturity when the investment performance is bad. Guaranteed Minimum
Income Benefit also provides a guaranteed account value at maturity, but policyholders only can take
out the account value in the form of annuity at specified annuity rate. This guarantee also reduces the
risk from the annuity rate at maturity. In the money means that the annuity payment resulting from

Silko s Three-C Themes
After a discussion in class, the professor and students acknowledged a concise meaning for the
definition of theme. The literature class concluded that theme can be defined with three aspects. First,
it can be used in the form of being implicit or insinuated. This means it is rarely acknowledged and
masked by the author s words. Second, it can be used as explicit or instantly recognizable. For
example, when Silko says that Teofilo is dead, he openly states it in the work. Lastly, the theme is the
main idea that the author wants to impress upon the readers through actions of the characters and the
setting. For instance, When Leon paints Teofilo s face he is sharing an action to the audience.
However, there must be evidence for this trio of reasons. The audience will find them with the three C
theme. Change, continuity, and creativity are the three implied and explicit elements given by the
author. Like a three stranded braid, the three C theme is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first factor in the theme would be change, which is used in the context of altering or converting.
Silko s text is implying the New Mexico tribe s altering of their faith and conversion to Roman
Catholicism. For example, in section 1 of the text, the author notes that the characters are still
practicing pagan worship. Yet, in section 4, they go to the priest for Sprinkling of the Holy Water. The
theme of change is an explicit action. It is implied that the Indians have not left the boundaries of their
Gods to form a devout unity with the Evangelicals. Next, we can grasp the idea of continuity. This is
another significant ingredient for the theme. Having a connection into eternalness is implied and
explicit during Teofilo s burial and the hope that might bring rain. Last of the three factors is
creativity. A people without a vision or dream will perish. The inspiring thought of Heaven the dream
of the afterlife is imperative for the tribe s spiritual

The development of characters in novels is important to create captivating books for the audience.
Today on Sunrise as part of our literature week, we are joined by American author Louis Sachar to

Thank you for inviting me to the show; it is a nice change of scenery.
In most of your novels, the plot revolves around the main characters and their actions. What in your
opinion is the critical tool in character creation?
The most essential tool? In my opinion it would have to be positioning, the way in which authors
make readers like or dislike any particular character in a novel. Most people don t realise it but we are
positioned to like or dislike every day, whether it be by television, print or in a novel. Writers create
language features, descriptions and behaviours to position the reader. Other methods of positioning

Color Vision in Spider Monkeys
Objective:
To determine the color vision abilities of four individual spider monkeys (Ateles geoffroyi). Certain
New World monkeys, such as spider monkeys, vary in the types of color they can see. Furthermore,
the color vision abilities of these monkeys vary among individuals due to the differing genetics of
males, who have dichromatic vision and certain females who have trichromatic vision similar to
humans (Regan et al., 2005). Additionally, only one behavioral study has been conducted with spider
monkeys to test their color vision abilities (Ateles fusciceps and Ateles belzebuth; Blakeslee Jacobs,
1982). However, with a sample size of only two spider monkeys who were a different species than the
spider monkeys housed at the zoo, this research should be reinvestigated. Ultimately, the implications
of the study will give us more insight into spider monkey color vision and increase opportunities for
improved environmental enrichment for animals based on their individual color abilities.
Procedure: We will use a match to sample paradigm to test color vision. In the match to sample

The ancient peoples would not have been able to move all of those tones and set them up in
complicated forms because they did not have advanced technologies to move them or to construct
temples (from the ones before the technology to build was invented). It has been hypothesized that
these extraterrestrials have come to planet Earth and inspired the early humans to explore. The aliens
would come down to Earth and gather in circles. That is why all over the world there are circle shaped
structures made of something that symbolizes power, such as a rock. Only the extraterrestrials with
their advanced technology would be able to lift the rocks and place them, especially the ones that
overlap each other. There even is proof that they actually have visited. In the writing of the ancient
people, it has been recorded that there is strange creatures that come from the celestial bodies. This
has been recorded in the history of several ancient peoples. They all seem to be intertwined for they all
similarly explain the same things: they gather in a circle and communicate with the humans. In the
end, they inspire them to create new technology and to explore. As I have written before, they created
temples and new structures of buildings, such as the Washington Monument.
All in all, Earth has been visited by extraterrestrial life in ancient and modern times. There have been
abductees and many witnesses. Some has proven to be false, but there still remains that small portion
that is unidentified. We should keep in mind about Area 51, the mysterious U.S. military installation

Demand And Supply Of The International Business...
Chapter 7: 1. Exporters typically prefer conservative measures when managing foreign receivables.
Because of this, there is a tendency to lean on the side of caution. Describe at least three reasons for
this conservativism. Exporters typically prefer conservative measures when managing foreign
receivables. Because of this, there is a tendency to lean on the side of caution. Three reasons for this
conservatism are described below: 1. Fluctuation in exchange rates: Exchange rates of currencies of
different countries fluctuate continuously and in a very random manner with the change in the demand
and supply state of the concerned currency. That can translate the profit from the international
business transaction into a loss or vice versa. Thus, the exporters dealing with foreign receivables
should be conservative to avoid this risk. 2. The difference in the legal system: Different countries
have different legal rules and policies for dealing with and managing the foreign accounts receivable.
It is mostly harder for a business to pursue any overdue amounts from an international business due to
the difference in the legal system. It is another reason for the conservative approaches of the exporters.
3. Change in export prices: Unexpected change in the commodity prices in a particular country will
arise a great risk for the exporters when managing foreign receivables. Change in commodity price
will also influence various other costs associated with the export like

Puritans And The New World Essay
Over the years, people broadcast the Puritans as a group of people who were extremely legalistic and
against anything that would be considered fun in the modern world. This incorrect broadcast of the
Puritans has led to many misconceptions about how they lived when they came to the New World and
settled in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The Puritans were not legalistic, but rather sought to please
God by creating a society that focused on fulfilling their calling through the institutions of family,
work, education, and government in a positive environment. This led to a fruitful society when it
followed in its original intentions.
The Puritans believed that God instituted society and expected to see Christian principles prevail
within (173). The goal of the Puritans was not to be legalistic but to please the God who sent His Son
to save them from their sins. As a result, they sought to establish laws that aligned with Christian
principles. One Puritan, Thomas Cartwright, even said that the commonwealth must be made to agree
with the church [that is Christian principles]. Laws were not instituted to force action of the citizens
but sought to ensure that the citizens of the colony followed the commands of God laid out in the
Bible. While this motivation to obey the Word of God in all portions does substantiate the claim
towards legalism, a deeper study of the term legalism shows that the Puritans were not legalistic.
According to the definition of legalism, the Puritans were

The aim of this dissertation is to observe whether female or male students have a similar or different

The opening scene of the film exemplifies the central themes of being a double and criss crossing
through the use of formal elements such as cinematography, mise en scene, and editing. The opening
scene of Strangers on a Train can be considered very unusual, but very fascinating for the viewing
audience. The opening scene begins with a long shot that portrays two different cabs arriving at the
train station and dropping off their two particular passengers. As the passengers step out of their cabs,
a low angled camera focuses on their feet, cutting from one person to the next. The camera keeps
cutting back and forth between the pairs of legs as the two characters walk through the train station
and to the train. This type of a filming is a match on action, which splices two different views of the
same action together at the same moment in the movement, making it seem to continue uninterrupted.

side. One pair of feet are walking to the left

shares many similarities with the notorious Pruitt Igoe development. Finally, I will present and discuss
the future transformation of Sharswood as detailed by the Sharswood Blumberg Neighborhood
Transformation Plan. To judge the success or failure of Blumberg Apartments, we must first analyze
the project as it works to provide good housing. Good housing should not just be regarded as a noun, it
should also encompass housing as a verb. The commodity of the house as a shelter is the noun. This
commodity should provide a place for redressing. It should hold the essential necessities that make for
a comfortable and complete home. A place that balances privacy and social interactions. As a verb,
good housing should be a utility that works to enhance one s life (Turner, 1972). It should be a
stepping stone towards opportunity. For Blumberg Apartments in the grand scheme, both of these
facets can be regarded as failures. As the housing projects suffered through massive deterioration, it
failed as a commodity. Residents described how their housing had stairwells that reeked of urine and
dirty diapers, constantly breaking appliances and elevators, and the frequent sounds of gunshots
(Colaneri, 2016). Furthermore, units were found to not meet minimum size standards and

  • 2. Daniel Bukvich Symphony 1 Essay In 1978, Daniel Bukvich composed a piece named Symphony No. 1 (In Memoriam Dresden, 1945) . The composition depicts the 1945 allied bombings of Dresden, Germany. Mr. Bukvich needed to compose a song for his master s thesis dealing with contemporary notation, he chose to base it off of the bombings of Dresden. The four different movements describe four different stages of the bombings. Different sounds and notations are also used to recreate the setting of the panic and fear that was felt at the time. On February 13 14, 1945, the city of Dresden, Germany was a victim of allied bombings. In 1978, Symphony No. 1 was composed as part of a master thesis project dealing with contemporary notation (rather than regular notation, contemporary is more symbolic, improvisational, and graphic). The piece contains non traditional sounds, and uses Duke Ellington s famous chords (C, E, Db, and G harmonic and melodic chords result) to recreate the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prologue establishes the mood of the impending disaster; Seeds In The Wind refers to the method of seeding the bomb targets with jellied gasoline and incendiaries, this movement also portrays the fury of the attack; Ave Maria reflects upon the religious and artistic heritage of Dresden and becomes a prayer for the victims; Fire Storm (Feuer Sturm) , in this movement, the sounds of fire and bombs are recreated. The last movement serves as a resolution to the build up in the previous three movements. The four movements are also performed in different lighting. Prologue has regular lighting, Seeds in the Wind has red lighting, to show the fury of the bombers. Ave Maria has a light blue lighting, to show that there is grieving and sadness, but also is interpreted as there being hope on the horizon. Fire Storm is performed in complete darkness, the only light visible is a very small light on the conductor s stand so the band can see the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Huntington Disease Research Paper Most of the carriers of Huntington disease are usually childhood victims (Donaldson, Marsden, Schneider, Bhatia, 2012). From this point of view, an increase in the length of the CAG section causes the production of an abnormal form of the Huntington protein (Donaldson, Marsden, Schneider, Bhatia, 2012). The lengthened defective protein is then cut into smaller and defective fragments that bind neurons together, which in turn disrupts their required functions of the brain. The abnormal functioning leads to eventual death of the neurons in some regions within the brain, which in turn leads to the symptoms of Huntington disease (Marks Neill, 2007). Inheritance Huntington disease is featured by an autosomal inheritance that is dominant, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Comparison Of Friends And The Big Bang Theory The TV series Friends and The Big Bang Theory are two of my favorites series. Technological Advances And Its Impact On The United States From the time when the first English colonies were established in North America until now, there has been some form of armed fighting force in place to protect the interests of the United States and its colonial progenitors. During the roughly four centuries in which this fighting force has existed, it has undergone numerous changes of varying degrees of significance. The conflict that eventually grew into King William s War would provide one of the first opportunities for fighters from different colonies to cooperate in a larger military conflict on behalf of the English Empire, and also to develop a sense of resentment toward the Crown for its perceived failure to defend the colonies adequately (Williams, pp. 23 24). The colonists had inherited their ancestors distrust of a standing army, primarily since they saw such an army as a tool for the repression of liberty (Flashnick, Week 1). After the failure of the English army to assist the colonial fighters to any meaningful degree during King William s War, this distrust was confirmed and amplified. Two long term effects of the conflict were that it reinforced the American preference for the citizen soldier and, by virtue of forcing cooperation between the colonies, it paved the way for what would eventually become a united continental army. Queen Anne s War was the second successive conflict during this period of transition for the colonial armed forces. The colonies once again were forced to cooperate militarily, this time to an even greater extent than had been the case during King William s War. This second war involved more of the colonies than had previously fought together at any time, albeit with a substantial degree of reluctance on the part of many, and ... I am familiar with Christianity and Sikhism as I grew up around people who followed these religions. The city that I grew up in had and still has a large Muslim population; however, I never got a chance to learn anything about Islam. This was partly due to the high tensions between Muslims and Hindus. I recall an incident that occurred in India during my childhood years. I must have been 7 or 8, when riots broke out between Muslims and Hindus after the burning of Godhra Train in the state of Gujarat. I remember hiding in a tiny room that we had on the rooftop, where most of the women and children from my neighborhood came to hide while the men were preparing to fight the Muslim rioters. Thank God nothing happened that night and the information received was incorrect. Although, my views on Islam has changed as I grew older and learned more about Islam; initially, this incident left me with a negative impression about Islam. The theme of change is an explicit action. It is implied that the Indians have not left the boundaries of their Gods to form a devout unity with the Evangelicals. Next, we can grasp the idea of continuity. This is another significant ingredient for the theme. Sachar is a well renowned author, having written more than 50 books, winning multiple awards. Thank you for flying out Louis and welcome to the show it s great to have you here. Thank you for inviting me to the show; it is a nice change of scenery. In most of your novels, the plot revolves around the main characters and their actions. What in your opinion is the critical tool in character creation? The most essential tool? In my opinion it would have to be positioning, the way in which authors make readers like or dislike any particular character in a novel. Most people don t realise it but we are positioned to like or dislike every day, whether it be by television, print or in a novel. Writers create language features, descriptions and behaviours to position the reader. Certain New World monkeys, such as spider monkeys, vary in the types of color they can see. Furthermore, the color vision abilities of these monkeys vary among individuals due to the differing genetics of males, who have dichromatic vision and certain females who have trichromatic vision similar to humans (Regan et al., 2005). Additionally, only one behavioral study has been conducted with spider monkeys to test their color vision abilities (Ateles fusciceps and Ateles belzebuth; Blakeslee Jacobs, 1982). However, with a sample size of only two spider monkeys who were a different species than the spider monkeys housed at the zoo, this research should be reinvestigated. Because of this, there is a tendency to lean on the side of caution. Describe at least three reasons for this conservativism. Exporters typically prefer conservative measures when managing foreign receivables. Because of this, there is a tendency to lean on the side of caution. Three reasons for this conservatism are described below: 1. Fluctuation in exchange rates: Exchange rates of currencies of different countries fluctuate continuously and in a very random manner with the change in the demand and supply state of the concerned currency. That can translate the profit from the international business transaction into a loss or vice versa. Thus, the exporters dealing with foreign receivables should be conservative to avoid this risk. 2. The difference in the legal system: Different countries have different legal rules and policies for dealing with and managing the foreign accounts receivable. It is mostly harder for a business to pursue any overdue amounts from an international business due to the difference in the legal system. It is another reason for the conservative approaches of the exporters. 3. Change in export prices: Unexpected change in the commodity prices in a particular country will arise a great risk for the exporters when managing foreign receivables. • 35. Puritans And The New World Essay Over the years, people broadcast the Puritans as a group of people who were extremely legalistic and against anything that would be considered fun in the modern world. This incorrect broadcast of the Puritans has led to many misconceptions about how they lived when they came to the New World and settled in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The Puritans were not legalistic, but rather sought to please God by creating a society that focused on fulfilling their calling through the institutions of family, work, education, and government in a positive environment. This led to a fruitful society when it followed in its original intentions. The Puritans believed that God instituted society and expected to see Christian principles prevail within (173). The goal of the Puritans was not to be legalistic but to please the God who sent His Son to save them from their sins. As a result, they sought to establish laws that aligned with Christian principles. One Puritan, Thomas Cartwright, even said that the commonwealth must be made to agree with the church [that is Christian principles]. Laws were not instituted to force action of the citizens but sought to ensure that the citizens of the colony followed the commands of God laid out in the Bible. While this motivation to obey the Word of God in all portions does substantiate the claim towards legalism, a deeper study of the term legalism shows that the Puritans were not legalistic. Finally, I will present and discuss the future transformation of Sharswood as detailed by the Sharswood Blumberg Neighborhood Transformation Plan. To judge the success or failure of Blumberg Apartments, we must first analyze the project as it works to provide good housing. Good housing should not just be regarded as a noun, it should also encompass housing as a verb. The commodity of the house as a shelter is the noun. This commodity should provide a place for redressing. It should hold the essential necessities that make for a comfortable and complete home. A place that balances privacy and social interactions. As a verb, good housing should be a utility that works to enhance one s life (Turner, 1972). It should be a stepping stone towards opportunity. For Blumberg Apartments in the grand scheme, both of these facets can be regarded as failures. As the housing projects suffered through massive deterioration, it failed as a commodity.
