This document discusses reconstructive surgery options for maxillary defects. It begins by explaining that maxillary reconstruction poses unique challenges due to its complex anatomy and proximity to critical structures. It then describes the Brown classification system for maxillary defects. The goals of maxillary reconstruction are outlined. Several local flap options for maxillary reconstruction are then described in detail, including the palatal flap, tongue flap, buccal fat pad flap, temporalis muscle flap, and submental flap. For each flap, the relevant anatomy, harvesting technique, advantages, and disadvantages are summarized.
