This document discusses different types of receptors and their mechanisms of action. It defines a receptor as a specific binding site on a cell that triggers a pharmacological response. Receptors can be ionotropic, G-protein coupled, enzymatic, or nuclear. G-protein coupled receptors are the most common and activate secondary messenger systems like the cAMP or phosphoinositol pathways.
