Cultural Differences In America
There are 196 countries around the world, Each one of those countries has their own culture. I m a
born Somalilander raised in Somaliland, coming from East Africa to the U.S was such experimental
thing to do. I have experienced a lot of culture clashes and the most important thing I ve had culture
clash about was that in the U.S respecting teachers has different meaning compare to my country. First
of all, In Somaliland teachers are well respected by the community and . Society believes that teachers
are the second parents of their students. For example, the teacher is responsible for all of their student
s life as much the parents. If a teacher sees a student doing something out of school they are supposed
to tell the student to stop what they are doing and go home. And also their parents to ... Show more

In America that is totally different from what I used to. The teachers are the most well respected in my
country because people believe that nobody would achieve their dreams without a teacher to teach
them how. Students are supposed to stand up and hold their chest when a teacher comes into the class
and wait till the teachers say sit down . Teachers can t call by their last name or first name people
believe it s disrespectful so they get the call by Macaaliin which means teacher. Students are afraid of
their teachers because of the fact teachers are allowed to beat students if they do something
unreasonable. They believe if the student has parents at home and second parents at school it would
help the students to be more successful. In my country, if you are over 14 years old you not make any
mistakes when it comes to school or the teacher or parents would beat you. Because schools believe
that all children need spanking at some point in their

How Does Mrs Joe Portrayed In Great Expectations
The characters images in Great Expectations can be altered due to the first person point of view of Pip.
Many characters show up throughout the story with specific relations to Pip. Mrs Joe is his sister,
Estella is his love interest, and Magwitch his his benefactor. Charles Dickens intensifies
Characterization in his novel Great Expectations to show how Mrs.Joe, Havisham, and Magwitch are
viewed differently from Pip s eyes compared to other characters in the story.
Mrs.Joe is a character that is seen as terrifying and irrationally mean through Pip s eyes. Through Pip s
description, the reader naturally feels sympathetic towards Pip in almost every given situation. For
example, in chapter two when Mrs.Joe threatens Pip with the tar water and the tickler. The reader sees
the story through one set of eyes, leading them to believe Mrs.Joe is a jerk just because she can be like
that and prove her dominance. However, other characters may have viewed her actions differently. For
example, in chapter four, Mr.Wopsle, Pumblechook, and Mrs.Joe are all criticizing Pip. Viewing this

Because of the ordeal that occurred on Havisham s wedding day, she decided to raise Estella as a
weapon against men. Hence the invitation to play at her house to Pip introduced in chapter seven. In
the beginning of the book, all of the adults in Pip s life are dazed by the fact that Havisham wants Pip
to come to the house. All of the adults view Havisham as a wealthy woman who may bring Pip up into
a life full of wealth. The adults feel ecstatic that Pip is getting this opportunity. However, Pip is scared
of Havisham and often doesn t want to return to Satis House. Pip and the adults are on complete
opposite sides of the spectrum. Neither Pip nor the adults know that Havisham is inviting Pip over to
hurt him. However, Pip is the one experiencing the house and the environment with Havisham, not the

The Is The World Wide Web Is Invented By A Man Named Tim...
The Web is composed of many languages, unspoken languages written in code. These languages take
a short time to learn, but years to master; and unlike spoken languages they are constantly evolving at
a noticeable rate. Changing to accommodate for the webs changing functionality, as it shifted from
being only scholarly to include news, entertainment, socializing, and business. In its 28 year life span
the web has evolved from the most basic HTML layouts to the high functioning responsive sites
people are familiar with today. What is known as the World Wide Web was invented by a man named
Tim Berners Lee in 1989 (Toshniwal, 2004). He wanted to create a way for scientists and researchers
across the world to be able to share documents. With the World Wide Web they would be able to
download a collection of documents to a computer, and those documents would be connected to other
related documents via hyperlinks (Longman). A hyperlink in a connection from one page to another by
clicking it with a mouse, this can be done to images or text. It s common for hyperlinked text to be
underlined and a different color than the rest of the text.
When creating the World Wide Web Berners Lee also created HTML, which stands for Hypertext
Markup Language. HTML is a text file that tells the web browser how a web page should be displayed
and organized (Longman). He created HTML by drawing inspiration from the very first Markup
language, Standard Generalized Markup Language(SGML) (Toshniwal,

An Description Of An Exact Dissipation Model For Arbitrary
Referee Report: Manuscript ID# OL: 280139
PAPER DESCRIPTION
In the paper titled An exact dissipation model for arbitrary photonic Fock state transport in waveguide
QED systems , Chen et al. have presented a dissipation model to study the Fock and coherent state
transport through waveguide QED (wQED) systems. As the main novelty of their work, they have
modelled the environment as a 3D scattering channel (described in a real space picture similar to the
waveguide modelling) and it has been shown that a reduced Hamiltonian can be obtained for arbitrary
photon number Fock state which can describe the photonic transport with a restricted eigenstate. To
illustrate, one , two , N photon and coherent state examples are presented. Finally, two simple
geometries of the scattering channel are considered namely the uniform medium and a slab
waveguide. Authors have also very briefly pointed out the applicability of their model in cavity QED.
COMMENTS AND DECISION
Overall the paper has interesting findings and is systematically presented. In particular, the modelling
of the environment as a non excitable 3D scattering channel, is the key attraction in this work.
Moreover, the authors have made claims which seems not to be exaggerated. However, there are some
points in this work which can be ambiguous to the interested reader. Therefore, I can recommend
publication of this paper in the Optics Letters, provided the authors performs the following revisions:

The Power Struggle in The Clerkā€™s Tale Essay
Through layers of narrators, The Canterbury Tales frequently critique meaningless conventions and
abusive uses of authority. The Clerk s Tale struggles with the subversive power inherent to passive
submission, showing how it enables an inferior to exert control over those who cannot be dominated
through direct means because of their complete and unquestioned authority. In the context of The
Clerk s Tale, Griselda and Walter have a very strange relationship in which a confusing power struggle
develops out of Griselda s complete submission. In her goodness she is able to force Walter into
damaging his own honor and proving his own faults. Ultimately, her submission is able to strip Walter
of his power and manhood just as he strips from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each relationship is a development of the binary opposition between passive aggression and direct
authority as a way to abuse power. Just as Griselda s meekness is able to twist and distort Walter s
intentions, the clerk s meekness is able to twist Petrarch s intentions. Submission is a means to power
that has nothing to do with virtue or goodness. It is deeply perverting of Christian virtues and reveals
an inner sadism/masochism involving deep suffering of the self in order to control others and resist
domination, which the submissive takes pleasure in their own suffering because of the power it grants
them.
This struggle becomes apparent only when the position of the narrator to the story is understood. The
story of Griselda and Walter in the 14th century was a folktale. Boccaccio s version of the
folktale...was translated by Petrarch into Latin, (Dinshaw132). which in turn was translated into
French several times. Chaucer based his retelling of the tale on Petrarch s Latin version and an
anonymous French prose translation of Petrarch. Petrarch was the poet laureate; his sweet rhetoric is
highly stylized analogy. From a folktale, Petrarch adapted a story that, in his mind, would lead readers
to emulate the example of feminine constancy, and to submit themselves to god with the same courage
as did this women to her husband. (Dinshaw149) Petrarch s story is allegorical of every human being s
relationship with god. When the Clerk explains Petrarch s

A Person Who Cares My Friend
A Person Who Cares I am a person who cares deeply about my friend. If anything happens to my
friend, I will do anything I help him. I have one true friend, his name is Ryan, who helps me greatly as
I help him. Being with him is different than being with my other friend. It is because I can be honest
about my feelings with him. Being a friend with him has sometimes gotten me into unusual situation.
For example, I lost my friend in Disneyland and to find him again, to climb a rope with my wrist
sprained, and to care about a person s pride. I was with Ryan and Daniel in Disneyland. After we rode
the Space Mountain, we headed out to eat lunch. Hey, Ryan asked me, where is Daniel? I don t know,
I said to him, he was here just a moment ago. Should we go and find him? Ryan said. No, I told him,
let s wait for a few minutes. We waited for five minutes but we didn t see Daniel. We figured that
Daniel was near where we were and went to eat lunch. Shouldn t we look for him? I said to Ryan. No,
Ryan said to me, he ll be okay. And besides we re hungry. After we ate our lunch quickly, we went to
the Space Mountain again to find him. We looked for him for about ten minutes and we realized that
he might have gone off to another place to look for us. We should go find a teacher and report to them
that Daniel is missing, I told Ryan. As we went to find a teacher, we saw someone familiar walking
towards us. The person who was walking towards us was

The Decline Of The Mayan Civilization
The early Mayan civilization had lowly beginnings. They rose to remarkable heights in a seemingly
inhospitable land. As Maya scholar Arthur Demarest said Such a civilization, had no business there.
The Mayans had to battle with torrential rain in the rainy season, and when the weather turned hot, it
scorched the land and their water supplies would plummet. They were always faced with floods or
drought. They were probably forced here due to overcrowding from other tribes. But nonetheless they
began to conquer these threats as they learned advanced farming techniques to make the shallow earth
fertile. They burned and cleared jungle to make room for their agriculture, particularly maize. They
then began the process of crop rotation, long before anyone else. As the Mayan civilization began its
steady uprising they began to redouble their efforts, they started composting, cultivating, they built
irrigation systems and began to terrace the landscape to make farming more efficient and prevent
erosion. They dammed rivers and flooded swamplands and marshes to create rich farmland. They
instituted transport systems to move fertile silt and mud from lowlands to higher enclosed gardens and
farms and created man made lakes and ponds that they used to fish and systems of corrals held wild
game. They maximized their talents and squeezed out enough nourishment to support their population
which had risen to several million people. It took time but the Mayans began to thrive in the

Short Story The Painted Door
Throughout your life you will be required to make certain commitments, it becomes your choice if
you want to stick to these commitments or not. However breaking commitments can lead you to
actions you eventually want to forget about or renounce. That is why in situations where you are faced
with a decision, you need to follow what both your heart and mind say. In the short story The Painted
Door by Sinclair Ross, the author develops this idea in that Ann has to make a decision on her
commitment to John, what she decides to do leads her to much regret.
Initially, John and Ann are a happily married couple living on a farm, they have been married for
seven years. They both adore and love each other greatly, but with John working all the time to pay off
the mortgage, Ann starts to feel lonely and trapped. Isolation is already a problem for Ann, and with
John leaving amidst the start of a storm, this can only get worse. Ann shows her commitment to John
by asking him to stay, as she cares for his safety and well being. John s gesture to tell their friend
Steven to come over and look after Ann for the day while he was gone, truly proves his commitment
to her and how he cares about her physical well being. There are signs that she is not fully committed
to him, but not in a loving way; John does not pay much attention to her mental well being and
because of her loneliness and the feeling of being trapped this could be seen as a loss of commitment.
However, with her husband away

Speak with an Engineer
When you are planning to make extensive modifications to the structure of your shipping container, it
can jeopardize the integrity of the entire unit. By consulting with a qualified engineer, you can avoid
these risks. It is well worth the investment to pose these questions to an expert beforehand, rather than
having major problems arise down the line that could make then entire structure unsafe for humans.
Buy Your Containers
Since you have the design figured out, and have the safety of it verified by a professional, you are
ready for the next step, which is to purchase the containers. Depending upon where you purchase
them, this could take a few days or several months.
You should be aware that used containers have held unknown contents that may have seeped
contaminants into the structure. Of course, these are easier to find and are potentially more affordable
than new ones.
You can use the Internet to locate containers that are already available in your area. If possible, inspect
them before purchase. This is especially vital for used containers, which may have suffered damage
during their previous use.
Construct the Foundation
While waiting for the containers to arrive, you can begin placing the foundation. Depending upon the

Universal Algebras Associative Ring ( R )
KEY WORDS: Fuzzy set, anti S fuzzy subsemiring, pseudo anti S fuzzy coset. INTRODUCTION:
There are many concepts of universal algebras generalizing an associative ring ( R ; + ; . ). Some of
them in particular, nearrings and several kinds of semirings have been proven very useful. Semirings
(called also halfrings) are algebras ( R ; + ; . ) share the same properties as a ring except that ( R ; + )
is assumed to be a semigroup rather than a commutative group. Semirings appear in a natural manner
in some applications to the theory of automata and formal languages. An algebra (R ; +, .) is said to be
a semiring if (R ; +) and (R ; .) are semigroups satisfying a. ( b+c ) = a. b+a. c and (b+c) .a = b. a+c. a
for all a, b and c in R. After the introduction of fuzzy sets by L.A.Zadeh[11], several researchers
explored on the generalization of the concept of fuzzy sets. The notion of anti fuzzy left h ideals in
hemiring was introduced by Akram.M and K.H.Dar [1]. The notion of homomorphism and anti
homomorphism of fuzzy and anti fuzzy ideal of a ring was introduced by N.Palaniappan
K.Arjunan[6]. In this paper, we introduce the some Theorems in anti S fuzzy subsemiring of a

Analysis Of One Abstains From Dangerous Acts By Ernest Van...
Every person have different traits along with their different feelings. But sometimes feelings like fear
can change their minds. It is a natural fact that whenever a person flashback with tensed past memory,
fear will arise in their minds, And same conditions appear when a person is about to kill someone but
unfortunately, a criminal finishes his/her infraction. Ernest van den Haag who was an American
sociologist and writer once said in his article One abstains from dangerous acts because of vague,
inchoate (beginner), habitual and, above all, preconscious fears . This shows how it allows future
teenagers because they look forward towards their parents traits and gains from bad experiences with

Guns Are The Best Way Of Protecting Oneself
In my opinion, guns are the best way of protecting oneself. A woman walking through campus might
have pepper spray at the most to defend herself. When it comes to gun vs pepper spray, the gun will
win. The possibility of a victim having pepper spray or mace is threatening to a rapist, but a gun is
even more so. Pepper spray is almost silent when used and if there are multiple attackers, the spray
may only stop, or slow down, one of them. A gun, on the other hand is loud and lets anyone near it
know its been shot off. A gunshot on a college campus is not going to go unnoticed; someone is bound
to hear and come to check out what s going on and hopefully be able to help the victim. Guns are the
best means of self defense. A classroom full of students are sitting ducks to someone with a gun. They
know the students and professor are not armed and they are the perfect target if the shooter wants to
kill a lot of people quickly. On October 1st, 2015, near Roseburg, Oregon, Christopher Harper Mercer,
a student enrolled in Umpqua Community College, shot and killed nine people, then turned the gun on
himself and pulled the trigger. The attack began just before 11 am in an English class. He directed
everyone to the center of the room and opened fire. Had any of the people had their conceal carry
license and a gun on them, they could have used it to save themselves and the other students. Many
lives would have been saved that day had the shooter been stopped early in the attack. The

Homeless College Students
Do you know the reason why so many college students in the United States are currently homeless?
As of the moment there are thousands of college students roaming around the streets, due to not
having the necessary resources they need. Now days, it is common for a college student to be left
homeless, be evicted, thrown out their homes, or found living in a abandoned buildings which isn t
suitable as a living environment. These students don t have the available funds to be able to pay for
somewhere to live in or know when their next meal will be. Every college student in order to be
successful needs a safe environment that they can call home and get there regular nutrients.
It is often said, that for a student to actually be able to excel in their studies. They must have a proper
nutritional diet, a place to rest and work on their studies. Yet, there is currently 14% of all college
students living among the United States without a home. It is most commonly due to rent being so
expensive that students cannot simply afford. Which later leads to some of these students who are
facing financial trouble to become homeless. Which not only leaves the student without a home, but
vulnerable to many other factors. For example, infection diseases, unsafe conditions, to even bad
weather which can all affect the health of a student. In today s society when people think about a
homeless person they think they ask for money for the most common saying homeless being drug

Facebook Case Analysis
Facebook (FB) has been dominating the social network industry since its birth in 2004. It was one of
the first social platforms that aimed to connect people all over the world together. FB has been
successful in establishing its competitive advantage relying in its network effect and its ability to catch
up with the competition.
As depicted on Figure II, FB has strength points that include: its long history and its access to global
markets over a short period of time, that enabled it to lock in a wide base of users that find it too costly
to switch to other networks that don t provide a strong motivation for switching especially that FB has
a strong ability for imitation and integration that led to a growing advertising revenue from different
advertisers that find FB to be a great source of data that they can use for segmentation and targeting.
FB weakness points are: its high dependency on advertising revenue, its high dependency on games
applications revenue and concentration of ownership in the hands of its founder, Mr. Zuckerberg, that
seems to be so innovative and successful. However, it is a reason why long term investors may worry
because there is no guarantee of the continuous of the long term success given a single control over a
public company. On the external trend, FB has an opportunity to increase its base of mobile users due
to the increase of people logging in on the go in comparison to computer users. FB has an opportunity

Reflection Paper On Oncology
Bryce Dunlap
Ms. Thompson
Gep 101
November 20, 2017
It all began in 2013. It was a completely normal day. I woke up and followed my daily routine: brush
my teeth, put on my clothes, and went to school. Little did I know, that would be the day that changed
everything. I found out that my uncle Danny had been diagnosed with lung cancer. The chemo
originally worked and he went into remission. After a few months of remission, the doctors said he
would have a few months to live. After he passed away, I couldn t talk to him. I couldn t see him
anymore. He was just gone. Cancer ended the life of someone very precious to me and his death
sparked the beginning of my desire to battle this disease.
When making a list of what I already knew about oncology, I found that there was very little I knew
about this topic. I knew that there were three main types of oncologists: medical, surgical, and
radiation. Those different types of oncologists treat cancer patients by using chemotherapy, biopsies,
and radiation therapy. In addition to his information, I knew that oncology was among the top ten most
competitive degrees of study in the United States. Once I came to the realization of how little I knew, I
wrote a list of what I wanted to know about this career. I wished to know what the salary and work
schedule was like. What education or training would I be required to attain? As well as what was the
work environment like for an oncologist? What job duties would I be responsible for? Even

Class Struggle In The Communist Manifesto By Karl Marx
Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, the authors of the Communist Manifesto, sought to displace the
system of capitalism in favor of a socialist society. Marx believed that it was crucial to acknowledge
economic forces and the way in which wealth was distributed. He saw class conflict, the division of
society based on economic interests, as the foremost drawback in the capitalist ideology. Through the
ideas of socialism and social classlessness, Marx believed that lower class individuals would no longer
have to submit to the state s middle class. Marx and Engels viewed the class struggle as being
dominated by two groups; the bourgeoisie and proletariat. Marx believed the wealth of the
bourgeoisie, or the capitalist class, was developed primarily because of the proletariat, or the working
class. The bourgeoisie are landowners who control the means of production and the proletariat are
those who work for wages. Marx viewed the bourgeoisie as being completely dependent on the
proletariat, and as slaves of the bourgeoisie class, the labor of the proletariat was the ... Show more

Chrysler Motors LLC Synopsis
Chrysler Motors LLC, a U.S. auto manufacturing company, is no stranger to creating various
automotive innovations through the years. Nor is the company a stranger to working its way through
financial ups and downs. During Chrysler s more profitable years the company has made several
successful strategic acquisitions such as the one during the 1920s when Chrysler bought the Dodge
Brothers firm. This acquisition allowed Chrysler to develop and release the low priced Plymouth
brand as well as the medium priced DeSoto brand which can be attributed to aiding in Chrysler s
survival during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Chrysler s success through the 1940s and 1950s
can be attributed to the company s ability to develop state of the art features for their vehicles from the
hemispherical head V8 engine, more commonly known as the HEMI engine, to power steering, power
windows, the alternator, electronic fuel injection, and many other automotive innovations. Chrysler s
success, however, did not end there as the company was also successful at expanding its operations to
overseas auto markets by acquiring the UK based Rootes Group, Simca, and Barreiros companies
(Wheelen Hunger 17 2). Unfortunately for Chrysler this was not enough to keep the company afloat as
the one thing Chrysler failed to do was pay heed to the changing demands of customers in their
domestic market. The oil crisis of the 1970s marked the beginning of Chrysler s decline in sales. In an

The Reform And Implementation Of A New Defined Benefit...
INTRODUCTION With the reform and implementation of a new defined benefit public pension
system, Indonesia seeks to achieve international standards when it comes to public pensions. A new
1st pillar earnings related defined benefit scheme named Jaminan Pensiun (JPN) was officially put
into place on July 1st. With the exception of the non contributory zero pillar program, the
implementation of JPN completes the Five Pillar Conceptual Framework suggested by the World
Bank (World Bank, 2008). In this paper, the adequacy, sustainability, predictability, and robustness of
Indonesia s pension scheme will be evaluated in comparison to other countries with similar pension
schemes. The focus will mostly be on the new program JPN, and to a lesser extent, the old Jamsostek
program Jaminan Hari Tua (JHT). DB AND DC SCHEMES Indonesia has both of these schemes
implemented in the pension system. Both schemes cover only the formal sector. DC (Jaminan Hari
Tua) Prior to the 2015 reform, Indonesia s DC system was abused by contributors by withdrawing the
balance long before the maturity of the fund/retirement . A reform was made so that the minimum
contributory period was 10 years and a large part of the balance cannot be withdrawn until participants
reach retirement age. Most individuals do not understand the actuarial component in a DC scheme.
Early contributions in the accumulation period matters more compared to the latter ones. Most

Sweat By Kate Chopin Analysis
Zora Neale Hurston Kate Chopin Poetry is used by writers such as Zora Neale Hurston and Kate
Chopin to express ideas and words through a sense of writing and rhythm that is felt by the poet who
is writing it. Years ago, poets would use poetry as a record of history where they told life events that
was happening or how modern societies were expected to be. The Poetry of this period forms the
immediate background and matrix of their own work, so much so that unless one keeps the later
nineteenth century. (Venuti, The translator s invisibility, 2017.) Each author made poetry different by
changing the tradition and outlook on poetry which is also known as the dead poet s society. Authors
from the past heavily influenced everything that was created in a poem. Sweat written by Zora Neale
Hurston was written during a time period women didn t have an opinion and it was frowned upon to

norms. The Awakening written by Kate Chopin, speaks out against societies gender roles and says
women are evolving to hold more than the titles mother and housewife. It was the time of shifting
order and woman gaining more rights than was handed to them. Kate Chopin used her poetry to give
an insight of what limitations she might have encountered in her life as a woman and it explained her

to what the ANZAC s truly experienced in the war.
The ANZAC s were created as a part of an operation under British rule and the British Empire during
the First World War; however the ANZAC legend was formed because of the soldiers themselves. The
soldiers displayed courage and initiative during the numerous battles they fought, showing that the
legend was forged by the soldiers who displayed those several characteristics. The following
information from Dawn of the legend (2014) states that, Although there was no victory, they displayed

I watched from the booth as the main actor approached the window with his pistol. He raised it to the
glass panel and I heard the magic words from the stage manager whisper into my headset. I quickly
pressed the button and filled the theatre with the loud sound of shattering glass. I could hear the
audience gasp at the sound. A powerful euphoria consumed me. Of course, the show was far from
over, but I felt like taking off my headset and slamming it to the ground like a winning touchdown. I
executed the problematic cue that caused me grief during rehearsals. Fortunately, we didn t have any
other problems. The cast members were rewarded with thunderous applause and a standing ovation. I
cheered with the audience, but I couldn t help feeling envious of the actors. That feeling quickly
dissipated when the cast raised their arms, gesturing towards the tech booth. They acknowledged our
hard work and shared the wealth. After all, the marionette cannot move without the strings. Though I
was invisible to the audience, that doesn t mean I wasn t a big part of the show. It was only opening

What I Exporned That I Have Learned In My Life
In my life I have learned a lot about myself; the people in it have been a huge impact on the person I
am today. People like friends and family have helped shape me into the person I have become. It can
be scary how easily someone can change you, but with the help of true friends they can bring out the
best in you. I have learned that some people can have a negative impact on your life and some people
just aren t meant to stay. I ve learned that one person, if the right person, can change you for the good.
When I first met Emily Moe I had no idea what kind of impact she would have on my life. As our
friendship has grown she has showed me more and more about my own self. She is always herself
around everyone and never changes for people. That is the first thing I have learned from her; do not
change yourself to get the attention of others. Since meeting Emily I never felt the need to be someone
else when I was around her. It took a little longer to realize that I shouldn t just be myself around
emily and certain people, but everyone. She taught me that being yourself is one of the most important
things in life. Now, because of her I will carry this lesson throughout my life. I ve seen other people
act differently when around certain people and it make you wonder if they re happy being someone
else. I ve been there, pretending to be someone you re not, and you might be happy for awhile, but
knowing that you re friends aren t really accepting you for you can be upsetting. I

Military Prostitution During Japan s Imperial Rule
Many historians have addressed the issue of military prostitution during Japan s imperial rule and the
United States role in it during their reign. For roughly 50 years comfort women were the silent victims
of war. During the 1990 s and 2000 s many Korean comfort women came into the lime light by
opening up about their experiences in the comfort system. The Feminist Studies journal published Na
Young Lee s scholarly work, The Construction of Military Prostitution in South Korea during the U.S.
Military Rule, 1945 1948 , in which the author argues the view held by Korean feminist NGO s in

Lee outlines many of the laws implemented by the U.S. government in relation to prostitution and
disease control. In addition, the author adds the serious problem that the U.S. government faced in
regards to STD contraction and the failure to suppress prostitution. Instead, the U.S. government with
the support from Korean elites, took the initiative to control their dilemma. The belief that prostitution
should be abolished lied widely on the shared thought that it was a remnant of the premodern,
patriarchal rule in which the Korean people had escaped from. In addition to this belief, the
abolishment of prostitution would also make advancement for a democratized, civilized, and
independent society. In response to the added pressure of these beliefs, the U.S. Military government
and the South Korean Interim Legislative Assembly passed the Abolishment of Public Prostitution
Law. However, this law only abolished licensed prostitution, not private. The privatization of
prostitution opened a gateway of new problems faced by the U.S. military. With the increase in
population and the dislocation of many workers a lot of women turned to private prostitution. The
U.S. government established The Women s Bureau under the Department of Public Health and
Welfare, in which, they were to take charge of the Japanese imperial policies in regards to prostitution
but also the the post abolition allocations. Lee states, in

The Five Bases Of Power And Personal Power
Introduction Power in the social dimension is simply the capacity to bring about certain intended
consequences in the behaviour of others (Gardner, 1993). So, who have a power and control it? French
and Raven (1959) purposed five bases of the power and divided to position power and personal power.
Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common

The Vietnam War Of The Cold War
The Vietnam war started as a U.S. strategy of authority in times of the cold war, which was directed to
prevent the advancement of communism in the world. The War had begun in 1954, after the rise of
power with Ho Chi Minh and his communist Viet Minh party in North Vietnam, and continued against
the backdrop of an intense Cold War against the United States and the Soviet Union. More than 3
million people were killed, including 58,000 Americans. In 1975, communist forces took control of
Saigon, ending the Vietnam War, and the Country was combined as the Socialist Republican of
Vietnam the following year. The Vietnamese wanted the desire to have a national government that was
truly independent. While the Americans were afraid of communist expansion. Ho Chi Minh who had
led a party about communism had great power and because of that Americans were scared that he
would spread Communism throughout the world. To prevent from communism affecting the world
using the Domino Theory, so America went to War. The Involvement of United States affected the
Vietnam War in a big and successful way. The main reason Americans joined the War because they did
not want Communism to effect the world. Communism is a political theory derived from Karl Marx,
advocating class and war and leading to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each
person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs. In Vietnam Communism was formed

Socrates Real Person
Was Socrates Really a Real Person?
(A discussion of how Socrates was influential and intriguing using Plato s Republic) To learn about
the past, people in today s society often consult the internet or history books. To an extent, all we
know about the past is from what we have read or heard, so what is actually truth, and what is just a
captivating story. Scholars believe that some people from history are just made up to portray ideals or
tell a story with an important message. Socrates was a real man, but some scholars believe that some
of Socrates beliefs are truly just Plato, his student, writing things and saying that Socrates believed in
them. The world today has virtually no idea whether Socrates believed everything that is recorded in
Plato s Republic. Socrates, as portrayed in Plato s Republic, is extremely intriguing because of the
way he communicates with people with his sarcasm and use of his Socratic method to teach. In Plato s
Republic, Socrates is portrayed as a man who answers everything in a way that avoids actually
answering any questions. Socrates wants the people he is talking with to think for themselves so he
never gives a definitive answer when asked a question. Instead of talking clearly, Socrates talks with
thick sarcasm. Holding a conversation with someone is a sort of game to Socrates, so almost
everything he says is shrouded with sarcasm and double meanings. Why does Socrates play with
people s minds with sarcasm and intrigue? Socrates was

cardiovascular benefits from this drug but there is no strong clinical trial data (Inzucchi et al. 2012).

M ʒƄ Ori Cultural Concepts Essay
Culture is not one distinct commodity. Culture is the integrated pattern of belief, human knowledge
and behaviour that has transcended through generations. Māori are the indigenous people of New
Zealand. Māori Culture is collectively the beliefs and ideals followed by the Māori people mainly
through tradition and legend. The culture dates back to 1250 1300 Common Era (CE) when
Polynesians migrated to the long white cloud and it has remained prominent to this day due to the
practice of Māori cultural concepts. A cultural concept is a non tangible ideal that governs a society
and cannot be physically touched . There are numerous Māori cultural concepts however I am
focusing on the three I believe are most important: Mana, Tapu and Utu. I will elaborate on how these
cultural concepts are important in understanding Māori culture and society.
Firstly, I will begin with how mana is important in Māori society. Mana in its simplest form is
authority and power. The sources of mana include: mana tupuna, mana whenua, mana tangata and
mana atua. Mana tupuna is power that has been attained through descent. It ties the Māori people to
their ancestors. Mana also denotes the heritage, the myths and the legends, which define their place in
the world. Mana tupuna is power through descent. It aids people in self identification through attaining
knowledge about their descendants. This cultural concept is correlated to Whakapapa, or genealogy.
Through reciting whakapapa, Māori are able to

The Reality of Aspartame
Aspartame is about 200 times sweeter than sugar (Magnuson 633). Many foods are reduced in calories
from aspartame. Aspartame is created by joining aspartic acid and phenylalanine, and a little bit of
methanol (Magnuson 633). Aspartic acid and phenylalanine are naturally found in many foods and.
Phenylalanine is an amino acid found in many foods. Ingesting certain amounts of phenylalanine can
build up in the blood. This can cause other chemicals from getting to the brain that are important for
function. Aspartame is digested just like any other protein (Magnuson 645). Aspartame breaks down
into its basic components and is absorbed in the blood (Magnuson 645). Aspartame does not build up
in the body over time. The FDA has concluded that aspartame is safe for the general public, including
people with diabetes, woman that are pregnant or nursing, and young children. Aspartame is one of the
most watched and studied agents in food. It has been tested over 100 times before the FDA approved
of it in 1981. Many studies have looked for the health effects in animals when fed aspartame.
Phenylketonuria is a disorder that is present at birth and results in the body not being able to break
down phenylalanine. Since Phenylalanine is an agent in aspartame, it is critically important that those
who have phenylketonuria limit their intake foods or beverages that contain aspartame. Wurtman
proposed that when aspartame containing beverages are consumed along with dietary carbohydrates,

My Family History
During my excessive research on my family background, I found that I had major complication
learning about my history. The reason for this was because my family was brought to a country that
totally wiped out my ancestor s culture. The only part I understand of my family history is slavery. We
started out as slaves in when first brought to America. We were originally from West Africa. We lived
in places such Nigeria, Congo, and Ghana. This was a time when we owned our land and freedom.
However, around the late 1500s, the western European culture had finally discovered our deeply
rooted heritage. They saw that beautiful land we had nourished, They saw the love within our
community. They saw the resource we provided. They realized the strength we had as a people. Soon
the western Europeans felt that needed to conquer us and our land. The wanted to prove that we re
able to conquer because of the more industrialized military they had. They forced my people to move
to a unformal land that conquered from another culture of people. So after arrival to the new world,
the European immediately forced my ancestors to change their names. They gave us our names of our
slave owners. This resulted in my ancestors to being someone s property. My ancestors worked day in
and day out in the hot sun; picking cotton, building houses, growing crops and being housemaids. The
European s would soon transition into what we know today as Americans. For the next four hundred

The Expectancy Of The Global Population Essay
The average life expectancy of the global population in year 2015 is projected to be 71.4 years.
According to the global health observatory data 2015, published by the WHO an increase of 5 years in
life expectancy has been observed between 2000 and 2015. This is by far the fastest increase since the
1960s. We owe the increase in life expectancy to the advance in the field of medicine, raised global
health awareness and the joint efforts of local, national and international bodies around the world. We
are better equipped to fight diseases than we ever were with access to life saving medicines, surgical
interventions and vaccines But does longevity really mean better health? We are definitely living
longer than our ancestors but various research data, statistics and global health reports suggest that our
generation is in fact unhealthier than previous generations.
Over the last century, diseases like tetanus, rabies, whooping cough, measles, yellow fever which were
considered a death warrant have been rendered preventable because of vaccinations. . WHO declared
that small pox was eradicated in the year 1979, rhinderpest in 2011 and polio has been eradicated from
most parts of the world with exception of Pakistan, Afganistan and Nigeria. in the early 1970s.The

Analysis Of William Tennyson s Lord Of The Flies
After careful analyzation, the title is what it was thought to be. Initially when reading the title, it gives
off the impression that something will break or will already be broken. This is clear in the poem after
reading as the speaker and his emotional state are hurt due to the loss of a loved one. The speaker s
life, and emotional mind is broken for he cannot express himself due to his loss. In this way, the title is
deemed fit and gives further insight as it shows clearly now that the speaker is truly broken. When the
speaker is compared next to Tennyson s life, one can make several parallels. For example, The vanish
d hand and the voice are likely the speaker s loved one who has passed away. Thus, the speaker cannot
seem to find happiness anymore as life seems to keep moving as he stays remorsing about the past s
tragic incident. Tennyson lost his father and best friend within the length of two years, which led him
to write this piece. He puts his same emotions into this as he too did not know how to cope with the
losses at hand. Similarly, he was surrounded by life moving on, being full of happiness, as he slunk
down and carried the burden of remembering his loved ones. Hence, he truly felt at one point that the
tender days would never make a return in his life. Altogether, the themes of this poem are clearly
death and coping with it as the speaker fails to do so. This can be attributed to the problem that life
will always continue on, not waiting for

The Second Sex By Beudie De Beauvoir Analysis
II. INTRODUCTION
Modern women are bringing down the standards and stereotypes that are put upon them by society;
but their success in breaking the stereotype and living freely in their human state is not something that
can be handed to them that easily. Women are born into a world which subordinate them to men,
making it as though their ultimate goal and destination should be marriage, which makes it important
to study their journey deliberately.
Women are given a standard and pre destined path for them to play in their lives. In the second volume
of The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir tries to describe how a woman is trained to accept her
position and what she has to go through as well as the escape mechanisms that are permitted to her.
We can then understand the problems women face and their keenness for a better tomorrow.

Don t judge a book by a cover, or in my case, don t judge a movie by when it was made. When I first

wouldn t have overshadowed the amazing talent of the young actors and the engaging, coming of age
storyline. The movie starts with an older, wiser version of Gordie Lachance (Richard Dreyfuss)
reminiscing of the good times, in particular the summer of 1959, he had with his childhood friend

Examples Of Unsung Heroes Of American Revolution
American Revolution: Unsung Heroes of Independence We hold these truths to be self evident: that all

America went from being an extension of Britain (and a source of revenue when needed) to an

Film Analysis Of Mr Burns
Mr. Burns, a Post Electric Play addresses the importance of storytelling and common memory as
unifying tools. From fireside tales to grand operas, stories symbolize the preservation and progression
of society. Sharing a cultural history establishes bonds that, in a post apocalyptic situation, could be
the difference between life and death. In translating the narrative of this production into a film, it is
imperative to retain these major themes. Manipulating mise en scene through setting, lighting, and
costuming can effectively direct the audience s attention in such a way as to communicate the
consolidating impact of entertainment in society. The first aspect of setting to be considered is the
choice between making use of existing locales as opposed to constructing settings of one s one,
digitally or manually. In Act I, the setting is predominantly tame and subdued. As the play progresses,
however, the sets become exponentially more complicated. Thus, the exposition of the film adaptation
should be set in an existing forest, particularly one that is expansive and contains towering trees. A
location such as this, alongside the proper manipulation of other variables, would portray the
emptiness of the world after experiencing a rapid decrease in population density. Additionally, the
towering trees and the frightened, lonely actors beneath would communicate the threat of nature
asserting its dominance over humankind. As the film changes settings, they should becoming
progressively more elaborate and manufactured in appearance. The stage on which the second act
takes place should be filmed in some sort of urban wasteland, such as a desolate parking lot or an
empty business office. The found nature of the location solidifies the main characters as a variety of
scavengers, and enables the inclusion of low level engineering employed in the play. The props in use
should appear as though they were reclaimed from the wreckage, and be slightly exaggerated in color.
Lastly, the final act should take place on a stage that is larger than life alongside fantastical
contraptions and outrageous colors. This cements not just the ability of the survivors to continue
surviving, but also reveals sophistication and the

Essay about Coral Reefs
Coral reefs have been undergoing global degradation due to increasing natural and anthropogenic
impacts for at least the last half century. The intensity and frequency of stressors, including global
climate change, have rapidly increased in number over recent years (Hughes Connell 1999; Hoegh
Guldberg et al. 2007; Pandolfi et al. 2011). Frequent disturbances such as hurricanes/cyclones,
predation outbreaks, diseases and mass bleaching events eat away at the percent of living coral cover
and without recovery, the available space is colonized by sponges, soft corals, and macroalgae. These
alternative organisms are often competitive dominants in less than ideal conditions (Norstrƶm et al.
2009). The transition is termed a phase shift from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1993; Lirman 2001; Box Mumby 2007), increased localized sedimentation (Nugues Roberts 2003),
interfering with the settlement of coral larvae through space preemption and/or biofilm production
(Birrell et al. 2005; Birrell et al. 2008; Box Mumby 2007; Vermeij et al. 2009), and allelopathy or
chemically mediated competition (deNys et al. 1991, Morrow et al. 2011). Macroalgae can cause
physical stress (Quan Young Espinoza Avalos 2006) decreased photosynthetic abilities (Titlyanov et
al. 2007), reduced fecundity (Foster et al. 2008), and harbor potential coral pathogens (Nugues et al.
2004). The ability of macroalgae to competitively damage stony corals also depends on the species of
macroalgae (Maypa Raymundo 2004; Birrell et al. 2008), and other compounding factors such as
irradiance, sedimentation, dissolved nutrients, and level of herbivory on the reef.
Over the past several decades the incidence of coral disease has increased, with striking correlation to
increasing macroalgal cover (Goreau et al. 1998; Harvell et al. 1999; Harvell 2004; Weil Smith 2006).
The enhanced need for disease research coupled with the massive advancements in molecular
techniques made the study of coral associated microbes more efficient and less cost prohibitive. Thus,
we have recently recognized the significant role microorganisms play in the physiology of both

Economic And Political Policies During The First World War...
The four decades prior to World War One (WWI) and the three decades after World War Two (WWII)
can be characterized as periods of great globalization and economic integration. As different parts of
the world grew more interconnected, and the prosperity of one nation became tethered to the
prosperity of another, many world actors searched for the right recipe of economic and political
policies to help them weather the turbulent global market. In the first era, we see a focus on three
pillars as the foundation for the world economic order. This included the gold standard, free trade, and
the growth of international finance. In the second era, which proceeded WWII, similar policies were
enacted as the world tried to learn from the mistakes made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, they fail to cover the distinct differences between the two time periods. For one, the second
era focused more on a harmonious application of these policies through the use of social welfare
programs and mixed economic systems. To counteract the unpredictable nature of the business cycle,
many governments began to provide safety nets for their citizens. Governments chose to protect
citizens against unemployment, sickness, disability, old age, and poverty. This stems from another
major distinction between the two eras, which was increased autonomy to pursue polices conducive to
domestic prosperity after WWII. In addition, in the second era differnet groups such as political and
economic elites as well as capital and labor work together to figure out solutions that are more
utilitarian. Finally, as mentioned before, two major camps formed after WWII and they each proposed
their own world economic order. This differs from the golden age which only offered global
integration or economic retardation. In the post WWII period, the second world and the third world
choose to follow their own

Bobo Dickenson Biography
Swedish pianist Bobo Stenson s musical aesthetics is all elegance and graciousness. He earned a
sterling reputation while accompanying the brilliant saxophonist Charles Lloyd, who detected the
perfect touch in his pianism to better serve his musical intents. Besides the latter, the saxophonist Jan
Garbarek and the trumpeter Tomasz Stanko also benefited with his lush chords and beautiful textures
to enrich their albums. However, Stenson didn t limit his ideas to be played exclusively as a sideman,
leading his own classic piano trio, which went through several changes along the way. Bassist Anders
Jormin replaced Arild Andersen in 1993, right after the trio s debut, and since 2008, Jon FƤlt earned
the drummer s chair, replacing Paul Motian, who had stopped by in 2005, also replacing the original
member Jon Christensen. Following a hiatus of six years, Stenson and his associates re emerge with
Contra La Indecision, another poetic work comprising ravishing originals (one by the bandleader, five
by Jormin, and one by the collective) and world class interpretations of pieces by Erik Satie, Bela
Bartok, Silvio Rodriguez, and Frederic Mompou. Just like it happened on Cantando (ECM, 2008),
they open the album with a tune by the Cuban

15. Answer: C. Animation is the process of making drawings and inanimate objects appear to move. It
began in the mid 1850s with the use of the zoetrope to simulate movement, graduated to stop action
photography as seen in the early cartoons of Walt Disney in the 1930s and has progressed to the
computer generated films currently being produced. Digital animation creates moving images using a
computer. It is the same process used to produce movement on television and in films. A simple
explanation for the process: An image is displayed on the screen; it is quickly replaced with another
image that is similar to the first but has shifted ever so slightly. This process is repeated as many times
as necessary to complete the desired action. The images are then layered onto a virtual skeleton.

Promotional Strategy Suggestions for Exercise Equipment...
Promotional Strategy Suggestions for Exercise Equipment and Breakfast Cereal
For any product to be sold successfully, especially to the mass market, the firm selling the product will
need to be marketed with a promotion. Promotion is one of the four elements of the marketing mix,
referring to the way in which a product is promoted this is more than just advertising, it includes
public relations, endorsement and any activity which will help to increase awareness of the product
and support the development of sales (Hooley et al, 2007). Promotional strategies are required in order
to create awareness in the potential target market regarding the product, and to help stimulate sales by
influencing the decision making process (Kotler and Keller, 2011). In order to demonstrate the
application of promotion strategies to different products can be examined, with promotional strategies
those products suggested. The two products are exercise equipment and breakfast cereals.
Exercise Equipment
Designing a commercial strategy to exercise equipment requires the marketer to identify the message
that will suitably communicate not only the purpose and function of the product being sold, but why
and how it will satisfy needs of the consumer. Kotler and Keller (2011) argue that people do not buy
products; they buy the benefits that are provided by the product. For example, when purchasing a bed
the buyer is purchasing the ability to get a good night s sleep, when a consumer purchases a

Themes In In The Time Of The Butterflies
During the 1930s 1960s in the Dominican Republic there was a dictatorship going on by Rafael
Trujillo. Trujillo ran the Dominican Republic as his own personal possession. He and his friends held
nearly 60 percent of the country s resources. If things didn t go Trujillo s way then that person who
broke the law would be either prisoned or vanished. In her book, In the Time of the Butterflies , Julia
Alvarez explores many different themes, such as Family, Courage, and Freedom. Each of the Mirabal
sisters had different personalities. Patria the oldest sister was the most religious. DedƩ the second
eldest was the only sister who survived. Minerva the third Mirabal sister was the one who was more
wrapped up in the revolution. Maria Teresa the youngest of the sisters just wanted to be like her oldest
sisters. The butterfly is a symbol for the main characters, the Mirabal sisters. Butterflies are unique,
they represent freedom, and they have a very short life span. The Mirabal sisters, much like the
butterflies were unique, and died young. They had to sacrifice their lives in order to be free like

One of their houses would get struck by lightning and who was to say which one. quot; This, quot; said

Will s father, a janitor for the town library, knew the storm was coming too. He had never sensed one
quite like this, so fierce and strong. As the kids arrived to get their books, he smiled and whispered,
quot;Just a storm, nothing but a storm. quot; He helped Will and Jim get their books then sent them
home quickly and then followed soon after.
Both Jim and Will, and Will s father had seen the signs of the carnival to come, but in the month of
October. Either way the boys were excited. That night the train came at three in the morning. Jim and
will both heard it and both sat up at the same time. They opened their windows looked at each other
and then looked at the train out of town. They asked themselves why three in the morning and why
that strange music knowing the other was doing the same.
They both got dressed and raced out to the hilltop above the field to watch them set up and see what
they both sensed was wrong. The clouds of the sky dropped in low so that they couldn t see. When
they rose again the skeleton frame was already set up. They could only see one person, the rest were

Many characters show up throughout the story with specific relations to Pip. Mrs Joe is his sister, Estella is his love interest, and Magwitch his his benefactor. Charles Dickens intensifies Characterization in his novel Great Expectations to show how Mrs.Joe, Havisham, and Magwitch are viewed differently from Pip s eyes compared to other characters in the story. Mrs.Joe is a character that is seen as terrifying and irrationally mean through Pip s eyes. Through Pip s description, the reader naturally feels sympathetic towards Pip in almost every given situation. For example, in chapter two when Mrs.Joe threatens Pip with the tar water and the tickler. The reader sees the story through one set of eyes, leading them to believe Mrs.Joe is a jerk just because she can be like that and prove her dominance. • 4. The Is The World Wide Web Is Invented By A Man Named Tim... The Web is composed of many languages, unspoken languages written in code. These languages take a short time to learn, but years to master; and unlike spoken languages they are constantly evolving at a noticeable rate. Changing to accommodate for the webs changing functionality, as it shifted from being only scholarly to include news, entertainment, socializing, and business. In its 28 year life span the web has evolved from the most basic HTML layouts to the high functioning responsive sites people are familiar with today. What is known as the World Wide Web was invented by a man named Tim Berners Lee in 1989 (Toshniwal, 2004). He wanted to create a way for scientists and researchers across the world to be able to share documents. With the World Wide Web they would be able to download a collection of documents to a computer, and those documents would be connected to other related documents via hyperlinks (Longman). A hyperlink in a connection from one page to another by clicking it with a mouse, this can be done to images or text. It s common for hyperlinked text to be underlined and a different color than the rest of the text. When creating the World Wide Web Berners Lee also created HTML, which stands for Hypertext Markup Language. HTML is a text file that tells the web browser how a web page should be displayed and organized (Longman). He created HTML by drawing inspiration from the very first Markup language, Standard Generalized Markup Language(SGML) (Toshniwal, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. An Description Of An Exact Dissipation Model For Arbitrary Referee Report: Manuscript ID# OL: 280139 PAPER DESCRIPTION In the paper titled An exact dissipation model for arbitrary photonic Fock state transport in waveguide QED systems , Chen et al. have presented a dissipation model to study the Fock and coherent state transport through waveguide QED (wQED) systems. As the main novelty of their work, they have modelled the environment as a 3D scattering channel (described in a real space picture similar to the waveguide modelling) and it has been shown that a reduced Hamiltonian can be obtained for arbitrary photon number Fock state which can describe the photonic transport with a restricted eigenstate. To illustrate, one , two , N photon and coherent state examples are presented. Finally, two simple geometries of the scattering channel are considered namely the uniform medium and a slab waveguide. Authors have also very briefly pointed out the applicability of their model in cavity QED. COMMENTS AND DECISION Overall the paper has interesting findings and is systematically presented. In particular, the modelling of the environment as a non excitable 3D scattering channel, is the key attraction in this work. Moreover, the authors have made claims which seems not to be exaggerated. However, there are some points in this work which can be ambiguous to the interested reader. Therefore, I can recommend publication of this paper in the Optics Letters, provided the authors performs the following revisions: QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Power Struggle in The Clerkā€™s Tale Essay Through layers of narrators, The Canterbury Tales frequently critique meaningless conventions and abusive uses of authority. The Clerk s Tale struggles with the subversive power inherent to passive submission, showing how it enables an inferior to exert control over those who cannot be dominated through direct means because of their complete and unquestioned authority. In the context of The Clerk s Tale, Griselda and Walter have a very strange relationship in which a confusing power struggle develops out of Griselda s complete submission. In her goodness she is able to force Walter into damaging his own honor and proving his own faults. Ultimately, her submission is able to strip Walter of his power and manhood just as he strips from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each relationship is a development of the binary opposition between passive aggression and direct authority as a way to abuse power. Just as Griselda s meekness is able to twist and distort Walter s intentions, the clerk s meekness is able to twist Petrarch s intentions. Submission is a means to power that has nothing to do with virtue or goodness. It is deeply perverting of Christian virtues and reveals an inner sadism/masochism involving deep suffering of the self in order to control others and resist domination, which the submissive takes pleasure in their own suffering because of the power it grants them. This struggle becomes apparent only when the position of the narrator to the story is understood. The story of Griselda and Walter in the 14th century was a folktale. Boccaccio s version of the folktale...was translated by Petrarch into Latin, (Dinshaw132). which in turn was translated into French several times. Chaucer based his retelling of the tale on Petrarch s Latin version and an anonymous French prose translation of Petrarch. Petrarch was the poet laureate; his sweet rhetoric is highly stylized analogy. From a folktale, Petrarch adapted a story that, in his mind, would lead readers to emulate the example of feminine constancy, and to submit themselves to god with the same courage as did this women to her husband. (Dinshaw149) Petrarch s story is allegorical of every human being s relationship with god. When the Clerk explains Petrarch s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have one true friend, his name is Ryan, who helps me greatly as I help him. Being with him is different than being with my other friend. It is because I can be honest about my feelings with him. Being a friend with him has sometimes gotten me into unusual situation. For example, I lost my friend in Disneyland and to find him again, to climb a rope with my wrist sprained, and to care about a person s pride. I was with Ryan and Daniel in Disneyland. After we rode the Space Mountain, we headed out to eat lunch. Hey, Ryan asked me, where is Daniel? I don t know, I said to him, he was here just a moment ago. Should we go and find him? Ryan said. No, I told him, let s wait for a few minutes. We waited for five minutes but we didn t see Daniel. We figured that Daniel was near where we were and went to eat lunch. Shouldn t we look for him? I said to Ryan. No, Ryan said to me, he ll be okay. And besides we re hungry. After we ate our lunch quickly, we went to the Space Mountain again to find him. We looked for him for about ten minutes and we realized that he might have gone off to another place to look for us. As Maya scholar Arthur Demarest said Such a civilization, had no business there. The Mayans had to battle with torrential rain in the rainy season, and when the weather turned hot, it scorched the land and their water supplies would plummet. They were always faced with floods or drought. They were probably forced here due to overcrowding from other tribes. But nonetheless they began to conquer these threats as they learned advanced farming techniques to make the shallow earth fertile. They burned and cleared jungle to make room for their agriculture, particularly maize. They then began the process of crop rotation, long before anyone else. As the Mayan civilization began its steady uprising they began to redouble their efforts, they started composting, cultivating, they built irrigation systems and began to terrace the landscape to make farming more efficient and prevent erosion. They dammed rivers and flooded swamplands and marshes to create rich farmland. They instituted transport systems to move fertile silt and mud from lowlands to higher enclosed gardens and farms and created man made lakes and ponds that they used to fish and systems of corrals held wild game. They maximized their talents and squeezed out enough nourishment to support their population which had risen to several million people. It took time but the Mayans began to thrive in the ... However breaking commitments can lead you to actions you eventually want to forget about or renounce. That is why in situations where you are faced with a decision, you need to follow what both your heart and mind say. In the short story The Painted Door by Sinclair Ross, the author develops this idea in that Ann has to make a decision on her commitment to John, what she decides to do leads her to much regret. Initially, John and Ann are a happily married couple living on a farm, they have been married for seven years. They both adore and love each other greatly, but with John working all the time to pay off the mortgage, Ann starts to feel lonely and trapped. Isolation is already a problem for Ann, and with John leaving amidst the start of a storm, this can only get worse. Ann shows her commitment to John by asking him to stay, as she cares for his safety and well being. John s gesture to tell their friend Steven to come over and look after Ann for the day while he was gone, truly proves his commitment to her and how he cares about her physical well being. There are signs that she is not fully committed to him, but not in a loving way; John does not pay much attention to her mental well being and because of her loneliness and the feeling of being trapped this could be seen as a loss of commitment. INTRODUCTION: There are many concepts of universal algebras generalizing an associative ring ( R ; + ; . ). Some of them in particular, nearrings and several kinds of semirings have been proven very useful. Semirings (called also halfrings) are algebras ( R ; + ; . ) share the same properties as a ring except that ( R ; + ) is assumed to be a semigroup rather than a commutative group. Semirings appear in a natural manner in some applications to the theory of automata and formal languages. An algebra (R ; +, .) is said to be a semiring if (R ; +) and (R ; .) are semigroups satisfying a. ( b+c ) = a. b+a. c and (b+c) .a = b. a+c. a for all a, b and c in R. After the introduction of fuzzy sets by L.A.Zadeh[11], several researchers explored on the generalization of the concept of fuzzy sets. The notion of anti fuzzy left h ideals in hemiring was introduced by Akram.M and K.H.Dar [1]. The notion of homomorphism and anti homomorphism of fuzzy and anti fuzzy ideal of a ring was introduced by N.Palaniappan K.Arjunan[6]. • 14. Guns Are The Best Way Of Protecting Oneself In my opinion, guns are the best way of protecting oneself. A woman walking through campus might have pepper spray at the most to defend herself. When it comes to gun vs pepper spray, the gun will win. The possibility of a victim having pepper spray or mace is threatening to a rapist, but a gun is even more so. Pepper spray is almost silent when used and if there are multiple attackers, the spray may only stop, or slow down, one of them. A gun, on the other hand is loud and lets anyone near it know its been shot off. A gunshot on a college campus is not going to go unnoticed; someone is bound to hear and come to check out what s going on and hopefully be able to help the victim. Guns are the best means of self defense. A classroom full of students are sitting ducks to someone with a gun. They know the students and professor are not armed and they are the perfect target if the shooter wants to kill a lot of people quickly. On October 1st, 2015, near Roseburg, Oregon, Christopher Harper Mercer, a student enrolled in Umpqua Community College, shot and killed nine people, then turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger. The attack began just before 11 am in an English class. He directed everyone to the center of the room and opened fire. Had any of the people had their conceal carry license and a gun on them, they could have used it to save themselves and the other students. As depicted on Figure II, FB has strength points that include: its long history and its access to global markets over a short period of time, that enabled it to lock in a wide base of users that find it too costly to switch to other networks that don t provide a strong motivation for switching especially that FB has a strong ability for imitation and integration that led to a growing advertising revenue from different advertisers that find FB to be a great source of data that they can use for segmentation and targeting. • 17. Reflection Paper On Oncology Bryce Dunlap Ms. Thompson Gep 101 November 20, 2017 It all began in 2013. It was a completely normal day. I woke up and followed my daily routine: brush my teeth, put on my clothes, and went to school. Little did I know, that would be the day that changed everything. I found out that my uncle Danny had been diagnosed with lung cancer. The chemo originally worked and he went into remission. After a few months of remission, the doctors said he would have a few months to live. After he passed away, I couldn t talk to him. I couldn t see him anymore. He was just gone. Cancer ended the life of someone very precious to me and his death sparked the beginning of my desire to battle this disease. When making a list of what I already knew about oncology, I found that there was very little I knew about this topic. I knew that there were three main types of oncologists: medical, surgical, and radiation. Those different types of oncologists treat cancer patients by using chemotherapy, biopsies, and radiation therapy. In addition to his information, I knew that oncology was among the top ten most competitive degrees of study in the United States. Once I came to the realization of how little I knew, I wrote a list of what I wanted to know about this career. I wished to know what the salary and work schedule was like. • 18. Class Struggle In The Communist Manifesto By Karl Marx Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, the authors of the Communist Manifesto, sought to displace the system of capitalism in favor of a socialist society. Marx believed that it was crucial to acknowledge economic forces and the way in which wealth was distributed. He saw class conflict, the division of society based on economic interests, as the foremost drawback in the capitalist ideology. Through the ideas of socialism and social classlessness, Marx believed that lower class individuals would no longer have to submit to the state s middle class. Marx and Engels viewed the class struggle as being dominated by two groups; the bourgeoisie and proletariat. Marx believed the wealth of the bourgeoisie, or the capitalist class, was developed primarily because of the proletariat, or the working class. Nor is the company a stranger to working its way through financial ups and downs. During Chrysler s more profitable years the company has made several successful strategic acquisitions such as the one during the 1920s when Chrysler bought the Dodge Brothers firm. This acquisition allowed Chrysler to develop and release the low priced Plymouth brand as well as the medium priced DeSoto brand which can be attributed to aiding in Chrysler s survival during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Chrysler s success through the 1940s and 1950s can be attributed to the company s ability to develop state of the art features for their vehicles from the hemispherical head V8 engine, more commonly known as the HEMI engine, to power steering, power windows, the alternator, electronic fuel injection, and many other automotive innovations. Chrysler s success, however, did not end there as the company was also successful at expanding its operations to overseas auto markets by acquiring the UK based Rootes Group, Simca, and Barreiros companies (Wheelen Hunger 17 2). INTRODUCTION With the reform and implementation of a new defined benefit public pension system, Indonesia seeks to achieve international standards when it comes to public pensions. A new 1st pillar earnings related defined benefit scheme named Jaminan Pensiun (JPN) was officially put into place on July 1st. With the exception of the non contributory zero pillar program, the implementation of JPN completes the Five Pillar Conceptual Framework suggested by the World Bank (World Bank, 2008). In this paper, the adequacy, sustainability, predictability, and robustness of Indonesia s pension scheme will be evaluated in comparison to other countries with similar pension schemes. The focus will mostly be on the new program JPN, and to a lesser extent, the old Jamsostek program Jaminan Hari Tua (JHT). In addition, the author adds the serious problem that the U.S. government faced in regards to STD contraction and the failure to suppress prostitution. Instead, the U.S. government with the support from Korean elites, took the initiative to control their dilemma. The belief that prostitution should be abolished lied widely on the shared thought that it was a remnant of the premodern, patriarchal rule in which the Korean people had escaped from. In addition to this belief, the abolishment of prostitution would also make advancement for a democratized, civilized, and independent society. In response to the added pressure of these beliefs, the U.S. Military government and the South Korean Interim Legislative Assembly passed the Abolishment of Public Prostitution Law. However, this law only abolished licensed prostitution, not private. The privatization of prostitution opened a gateway of new problems faced by the U.S. military. With the increase in population and the dislocation of many workers a lot of women turned to private prostitution. (A discussion of how Socrates was influential and intriguing using Plato s Republic) To learn about the past, people in today s society often consult the internet or history books. To an extent, all we know about the past is from what we have read or heard, so what is actually truth, and what is just a captivating story. Scholars believe that some people from history are just made up to portray ideals or tell a story with an important message. Socrates was a real man, but some scholars believe that some of Socrates beliefs are truly just Plato, his student, writing things and saying that Socrates believed in them. The world today has virtually no idea whether Socrates believed everything that is recorded in Plato s Republic. Socrates, as portrayed in Plato s Republic, is extremely intriguing because of the way he communicates with people with his sarcasm and use of his Socratic method to teach. In Plato s Republic, Socrates is portrayed as a man who answers everything in a way that avoids actually answering any questions. Socrates wants the people he is talking with to think for themselves so he never gives a definitive answer when asked a question. Instead of talking clearly, Socrates talks with thick sarcasm. Holding a conversation with someone is a sort of game to Socrates, so almost everything he says is shrouded with sarcasm and double meanings. The culture dates back to 1250 1300 Common Era (CE) when Polynesians migrated to the long white cloud and it has remained prominent to this day due to the practice of Māori cultural concepts. A cultural concept is a non tangible ideal that governs a society and cannot be physically touched . There are numerous Māori cultural concepts however I am focusing on the three I believe are most important: Mana, Tapu and Utu. I will elaborate on how these cultural concepts are important in understanding Māori culture and society. Firstly, I will begin with how mana is important in Māori society. Mana in its simplest form is authority and power. The sources of mana include: mana tupuna, mana whenua, mana tangata and mana atua. Mana tupuna is power that has been attained through descent. It ties the Māori people to their ancestors. Mana also denotes the heritage, the myths and the legends, which define their place in the world. Mana tupuna is power through descent. Phenylalanine is an amino acid found in many foods. Ingesting certain amounts of phenylalanine can build up in the blood. This can cause other chemicals from getting to the brain that are important for function. Aspartame is digested just like any other protein (Magnuson 645). Aspartame breaks down into its basic components and is absorbed in the blood (Magnuson 645). Aspartame does not build up in the body over time. The FDA has concluded that aspartame is safe for the general public, including people with diabetes, woman that are pregnant or nursing, and young children. • 35. Analysis Of William Tennyson s Lord Of The Flies After careful analyzation, the title is what it was thought to be. Initially when reading the title, it gives off the impression that something will break or will already be broken. This is clear in the poem after reading as the speaker and his emotional state are hurt due to the loss of a loved one. The speaker s life, and emotional mind is broken for he cannot express himself due to his loss. In this way, the title is deemed fit and gives further insight as it shows clearly now that the speaker is truly broken. When the speaker is compared next to Tennyson s life, one can make several parallels. For example, The vanish d hand and the voice are likely the speaker s loved one who has passed away. Thus, the speaker cannot seem to find happiness anymore as life seems to keep moving as he stays remorsing about the past s tragic incident. Tennyson lost his father and best friend within the length of two years, which led him to write this piece. He puts his same emotions into this as he too did not know how to cope with the losses at hand. Similarly, he was surrounded by life moving on, being full of happiness, as he slunk down and carried the burden of remembering his loved ones. Hence, he truly felt at one point that the tender days would never make a return in his life. Altogether, the themes of this poem are clearly death and coping with it as the speaker fails to do so. This can be attributed to the problem that life will always continue on, not waiting for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Film Analysis Of Mr Burns Mr. Burns, a Post Electric Play addresses the importance of storytelling and common memory as unifying tools. From fireside tales to grand operas, stories symbolize the preservation and progression of society. Sharing a cultural history establishes bonds that, in a post apocalyptic situation, could be the difference between life and death. In translating the narrative of this production into a film, it is imperative to retain these major themes. Manipulating mise en scene through setting, lighting, and costuming can effectively direct the audience s attention in such a way as to communicate the consolidating impact of entertainment in society. The first aspect of setting to be considered is the choice between making use of existing locales as opposed to constructing settings of one s one, digitally or manually. In Act I, the setting is predominantly tame and subdued. As the play progresses, however, the sets become exponentially more complicated. Thus, the exposition of the film adaptation should be set in an existing forest, particularly one that is expansive and contains towering trees. A location such as this, alongside the proper manipulation of other variables, would portray the emptiness of the world after experiencing a rapid decrease in population density. Additionally, the towering trees and the frightened, lonely actors beneath would communicate the threat of nature asserting its dominance over humankind. As the film changes settings, they should becoming progressively more elaborate and manufactured in appearance. The stage on which the second act takes place should be filmed in some sort of urban wasteland, such as a desolate parking lot or an empty business office. The found nature of the location solidifies the main characters as a variety of scavengers, and enables the inclusion of low level engineering employed in the play. The props in use should appear as though they were reclaimed from the wreckage, and be slightly exaggerated in color. Macroalgae can cause physical stress (Quan Young Espinoza Avalos 2006) decreased photosynthetic abilities (Titlyanov et al. 2007), reduced fecundity (Foster et al. 2008), and harbor potential coral pathogens (Nugues et al. 2004). The ability of macroalgae to competitively damage stony corals also depends on the species of macroalgae (Maypa Raymundo 2004; Birrell et al. 2008), and other compounding factors such as irradiance, sedimentation, dissolved nutrients, and level of herbivory on the reef. Over the past several decades the incidence of coral disease has increased, with striking correlation to increasing macroalgal cover (Goreau et al. 1998; Harvell et al. 1999; Harvell 2004; Weil Smith 2006).
