Climate Change Is The Global Climate System
Climate is part of our everyday lives. What we experience is the global climate system. According
to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, climate change is, a change of
climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity alters the composition of the
atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climatevariability observed over comparable time
periods. (Allen, Seaman Delascio, 2009) Australia s climate has warmed a lot more since 1910
by the average of 0.9 C. it has been rising dramaticllay since 1950 s.the daytime temperatures
have increased by 0.8 C whereas in the night time, we experience 1.1 C more heat than the people
living in 1900 s. (BOM CSIRO, 2014). In 2004 more than 234 newspaper articles have concluded
that we may have, in fact, reached the tipping point for the climate change. Walker (2006) believes
that this man made climate change has caused havoc on the earths atmosphere and the most
striking of all the components is the arctic. Farthest north is the carapace of sea ice over the Arctic
Ocean. South of that is the vast ice sheet that covers Greenland. And then there is the ocean
conveyor belt, which originates in a small region of the Nordic seas and carries heat and salt
around the world.
All three seem to have inbuilt danger zones that may deserve to be called tipping points. And the
outside forces pushing them towards those points are gathering. It has been found that the summer
sea ice has shrunk by an

Comparison Of Romeo And Juliet 1996 And 1996
Romeo and Juliet is one of the most commemorated and referenced plays in the history of the
world. Because it is so popular, many variations of the play exist. Since different ideas about the
play have produced a multitude of different reenactments, lots of plays out there have many
differences. Three of these versions, Two of which are movies made, one in 1968, the other in
1996, and the last is an actual play production on Broadway in 2014, have many differences and
similarities. What we can interpret from these variations is that even though the words on the script
may not change, with time, culture can alter the appearance and mood of the production. Romeo
and Juliet (1968) was filmed mostly in Rome, Italy. The movie featured sixteen year old... Show

Some of these similarities come between Romeo + Juliet (1996), and Romeo and Juliet (1968).
Both of these productions are movies, and such allows the viewer to get a better visual
experience of the script by Shakespeare. Two two of these share many qualities, such as the
Montagues and Capulets being two of the wealthiest houses in Verona, and a very open conflict
between each other. The two of these also share some contrast. In the 1968 film, both houses
were Caucasian, however, in the 1996 film, there is an ethnic difference between the Montagues,
who are white, and the Capulets, who are Hispanic, except for Juliet and Juliet s direct family.
Another difference is that the fight between the houses in the 1996 version was more gang
related, violent, and involves the use of firearms, while the 1968 version is a chivalrous conflict,
and cheap swords, not guns, are used. What s also the same between these two is that the setting in
both of these have hot climates. Rome, Italy, which is where the 1968 version was filmed,
typically has warmer temperatures year round. Los Angeles, California, where the 1996 film was
set has hot and dry temperatures and weather, especially in the

Opium Research Paper
The trend has started to evolve already, in 460 B.C. a Greek physician, also known as The
Father of Medicine , named Hippocrates learns about the opium poppy plant. He notices that it is
useful to treating internal diseases, for women and epidemics. Alexander the Great introduces the
opium to the people of Persia and India around 330 B.C. Opium is now used by Arabs, Greeks,
and Romans as a sedative and soporific. 400 A.D., opium thebaicum, from the Egyptian fields at
Thebes, is first introduced to China by Arab traders. For a couple of hundreds of years opium had
vanished from all the records. In 1500 it came back, Portuguese, while trading along the East China
Sea, they started the smoking of opium. It was then reintroduced into the European

The Survey Method Of Choice For A Researcher
There are many situations that make conducting an interview the survey method of choice for a
researcher. The interview can be completed face to face, either individually or as part of a focus
group, or it can be completed by telephone. All of these methods allow a richer opportunity to
gather information in a more open ended fashion, allowing the interviewer to take note of body
language, tone of voice, and other aesthetic aspects of the participant. Salant and Dillman (1994)
recommend face to face interviewsurveys when respondents are unlikely to respond willingly or
accurately in writing, when the questionnaire is complex, and when projects are well funded and
include professional, experienced interviewers. Face to face interviews are generally preferred
over telephone interviews, since body language and other nuances can be more closely
monitored. Ng and Coakes (2014) point out that not all the data collected will be numerical, and
contextual and textual data can also be analyzed. Brace (2004) also makes note that being in the
same room allows the interviewer to use prompt cards and other visuals that would be inhibited
over the phone. Focus groups, on the other hand, allow the advantage of a face to face meeting
while making good use of time and cost by having several people in the room together. This setting
helps weed out extreme views, creates a forum for discussion and argument in a controlled setting,
and can stimulate opinions and ideas through a group

Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
Shirley Jackson s The Lottery is an excellent example of an allegorical short story. In this story,
the reader learns of a town s lottery that takes place once a year, every year. It has been a tradition
in this small rural town for many years and the villagers never question these activities, they just
blindly go along with it. But what the reader doesn t know is just what kind of prize the winner is
going to obtain. Jackson s use of symbolism is shown through the description of the characters,
significant objects, and the actions in the story. These elements are used to represent the death that
is associated with the lottery.
The first allegorical use is seen through the description ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of the blackness makes the reader think of death and evil. The family which draws the black
dot on the paper is the family marked for death. The slips of paper are held in a black box which
signifies the horrible outcome. Everything that is terrible and evil is shown through the color
black. If someone gets the color black, then they are going to die. It s Hutchinson. It s Bill. (236)
Everyone in the village knows what s to come for the Hutchinson family.
The actions involved with the lottery are symbolic also. At the beginning of the story the reader
learns that the children are gathering stones into a big pile. This represents just how unconscious
their actions are. The village is blind to it s own motives. Tessie was fine with the lottery until it
was she who was the chosen one. Tessie becomes the scapegoat for the village. She is a symbol of
disobedience and the other villagers must stone her to death to stop further outbreaks of rebellion
against the lottery. They are unable to articulate their rebellion because the massive force of
ideology stands in their way. Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original
black box, they still remembered to use stones. (238) The tradition is so old that all they care about
is stoning the victim without thinking about how evil the tradition really is.
The Lottery is very allegorical in every sense. After reading this short

Torres Strait Islanders Stereotypes
пѓјThe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have had many impacts on their culture since
European settlement in Australia. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders were seen to be
savages with no civilisation and as such Australia was seen as Terra Nullius . With European
settlement Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders saw a loss of their land and culture, labour
exploitation, introduced diseases, change of diet and a loss in their rights as a citizen and as a
human being. Many laws and policies were introduced which controlled an Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islanders life, many things for which we take for granted today. Things such as residence,
employment, marriage, social and daily life were all restricted. Most notably was the laws
introduced that allowed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to be forcibly removed from
their families.
пѓјMany Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have experienced trauma, loss, isolation and abuse
and because of this are quite hesitant to engage with services and interact with other cultures as
they are fearful of similar things occurring to them. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have

How Does Rosalind Use Dramatic Irony In As You Like It
Both As You Like It and The Outing make use of verbal irony. In As You Like It, Rosalind
decides to take on a male persona in order to talk with Orlando openly. She gives herself the
name Ganymede and dresses up like a man. Later in the play, Orlando has a conversation with
Ganymede and does not realize that he is in fact Rosalind in disguise. Rosalind, dressed as
Ganymede, chides him to woo her as if she were Rosalind: What would you say to me now / an I
were your very very Rosalind? (IV. i. 74 75). Each time Rosalind insists that she is Rosalind is
ironic because she is simultaneously Rosalind and is playing the part of Rosalind. Orlando fails to
realize this. Similarly, in The Outing, Elaine does not realize who someone actually... Show more

In As You Like It, Celia s and Rosalind s friendship seems intimate and intense. They speak to
each other as if they are lovers and not friends. At the beginning of the play, Rosalind is upset
about her father s banishment. She and Celia have a minor fight where Celia accuses her of not
loving her fully: Herein I see thou lov st me not with the full weight I love thee (I. ii. 7 8). The two
characters quickly make up because of Rosalind s sacrifice. She says that she will ignore her
problems to focus on Celia. The characters speak to one another as if they are in a romantic
relationship although they are cousins. In addition to blurring the line between men and women,
Shakespeare blurs the line between platonic relationships and intimate ones. Larry Charles does
the same in The Outing with Jerry and George. In doing so, Shakespeare and Charles are able to
play with their respective characters and mislead the audience. Jerry and George say and do
several things throughout the episode that imply they are in a relationship. For instance, Jerry and
George bicker about minor things such as George s shirt and how clean a pear is. Although the
audience knows that Jerry and George are not

The Social Arrangement That Permits Have More Than One...
Polygyny, the social arrangement that permits a man to have more than one wife at the same time,
exists in all parts of the world. Although looked down upon by societies views mainly in developed
countries, among the 849 human societies, 75 percent practice polygyny. Seeing this, although
common in developed countries, it poses a question for the origin of monogamy. Is monogamy
really the prevalent practice or simply a moral ideology?
Ancient Hebrews, Mormons in the United States and Chinese traditionalists, originated the practice
of polygyny, however the modern day practice is concentrated in Africa, the Middle East, and
Indonesia. Although in a much advanced time, the traditionalist understanding for polygamy still
holds true for majority of those who practice it. Men are able to acquire these wives based on
distinct factors, not a brawl for all, as many perceive it to be. Polygamy is used for many
different reasons. Per Anthropologists it could be used for the following purposes: Increase the
probability of children, increase labor supply within a kinship network, dealing with the problem of
surplus women, attempting to expand a man s alliance (more power) or to provide sexual
satisfaction during periods of post partum for the woman (Macfarlane 1986). Polygamy is inclusive
but not restrictive to the wives sharing the same home along with the same husband. Some have
wives with different homes that are interdependent of one another. These forms of marriageare

The Correlation Of Voters Attitudes About The Liberal...
Introduction
In this study, I m focusing on the correlation of voters behaviors about the Liberal party of Canada
in the 2015 election. The relationship between Justin Trudeau and the party and what effects to
gain more votes, pros and cons, the strengths and the weaknesses among different group of the
voters. I did comparisons between the main three Canadian parties (Liberal, Conservative, NDP)
and did a research report to help to understand the correlates of their support. This research
provides an overview of my study s finding. I did a statistical analysis about the mean, median,
standard deviation, the lower and upper mean, how males and females behave about the party, the
income correlations, linear, nonlinear, monotonic and non monotonic relationship, null and
alternative hypothesis and many more.
Literature Review
Voting is a standout amongst the most principal parts of political engagement. Numerous political
researchers connect voting with the strength of the popularity based process and contend that
declining voting rates might be symptomatic of a democratic deficit. Since political support can
likewise impact public policy, others are worried that lower investment could bring about strategies
that are not really illustrative of key voting demographics, similar to the individuals who tend to
vote less. Therefore, the voter turnout rate is utilized as one pointer of political engagement. In
Canada, researchers who look at voter turnout have found various

The Internal Family Systems Model Developed By Dr. Richard...
Introduction Family Therapy is a diverse field, so I have decided to highlight The Internal
Family Systems Model developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, who began formulating his theory
when he was working as a family systems social worker. Former UW Whitewater professor, Don
Norman is certified IFS therapist. Professor Norman and Dr. Schwartz ran a series of
certification courses over the span of 18 months at UW Whitewater in the early 2000 s. My
rational for my interest in this type of counseling is based on the success my family has had with
this theory. IFS draws some of it s techniques from Freud s id, ego, and superego, and expands upon
Jung s understanding of the complexity of the psyche. What is shared is the general understanding

41) Key Concepts Applications Self: is described as an individuals internal system, and should
be the leader. The overall goal is to achieve harmony and balance inside our internal system.
When balance is achieved we feel competent, self confident, harmonious and are able to respond
and listen to feedback. (www.selfleadership.org) Exiles: These are the parts that have been
traumatized, most often during childhood and will attempt to protect the self from feelings of
fear, pain, etc. Managers: They are responsible for the daily life of an individual and try to
remain in control to keep the self from feeling anything from the exiles. Firefighters: Their job is
to react when exhales are activated in an effort to control and extinguish their feelings. This is
accomplished any numbers of way through alcohol or drug use, gambling, shopping, binge
eating. We believe the firefighters are keeping us safe somehow however they are actuality
obscuring our heart within us. Therapeutic Process: Goals, Techniques and Procedures Internal
balance is the overall goal of this therapy. Therapists meet with clients and examine the parts that
make them. Most people have five to fifteen other parts they can clearly identify. There are no
bad parts, with the goal being to accept and love all the parts of us, and freeing ourselves of our
limited beliefs. Once free, the client is no longer triggered, or can at least identify the triggers before

Virtual Survivor Of The Holocaust
Museums related to the Holocaust are seen by some to be a necessary evil. How can we
comprehend the catastrophe that is the death of eleven million? However, even if we might not be
able to understand their suffering, we need to understand the history of the Holocaust. For years,
Holocaust museums have relied on art, exhibits, and testimony to convey the story of the Holocaust.
Yet as we progress further into the twenty first century, all the survivors will pass, and the means of
conveying must change. For instance, the Illinois Holocaust Museumand Education Center have
plans to put in place a VR (virtual reality) exhibit that lets you ask questions to a virtual survivor of
the Holocaust. While this innovational use of VR is impressive,

Isabel Briggs Personality
Personality tests serve as effective facilitators to learning about the features of an employee and
potential benefits and drawbacks that he or she may encounter at a given position. Legitimacy of
the social media which character are you? personality assessments is questionable, because they do
not provide credentials for their authors, statistical tools implemented, and no connection can be
traced between the types of questions and the results of the test. However, such tests as the one
based on the Carl Jung s and Isabel Briggs Myers typology suggest a profound background for
considering them valid. As such, after completing this type of personality test, I received the same
results as in the official Myers Briggs Personality assessment, which it was not. So, my personality

learned about myself. Being rather determined about rights and wrongs, I was often told that I
give the first impression of being aloof and perhaps somewhat cold (ISTJ, 2016). I agree with
many of the characteristics given in personality tests, but some portion of the information in such
assessments with explanation can be left to a chance. In this respect, I would not advise using
personality tests for hiring purposes, because a person considered creative and easygoing, such as
extraverted types, might appear too emotional and lacking the sense of hierarchy. Primarily, the test
can be used to facilitate further development of the team member in a new place and evaluate the
potential for assignment or promotion, using both self report personality inventories and projective
tests to ensure conscious and unconscious aspects of personality are

Computer Engineering Personal Statement
The fast moving technologies have revolutionized the world from the perspectives of reading,
communication, entertainment, business, and so on. The desire to become part of the revolution
drove me to choose software engineering as my major in the college. I am so obsessed with
programming that I can sit in front of a computercoding for an entire day. Logical problem solving,
which is readily visible in computing and programming, has motivated me to continue graduate
studies in computer science(basically the major name here, it could be computer engineering or
others depending on the program you will apply ). Especially, I m very interested in Networking
and Human Computer Interaction, which are the representative of the speed of development in
computer science and fundamental to achieve my career goal build software that can actually
help people and easy to cope with. I want to help people like my grandparents to learn how to use
the internet, to be able to talk to people they love when they are far away; I want to give the only
child an e friend when they are alone; I want to help to clean our internet world and stop bullying.
I enjoy applying programming to my studies and daily life in the sense that programming enhances
my working efficiency and helps me solve challenging problems. In my freshman year, I designed
an application to calculate the data from circuit experiments. Manual calculation of the tremendous
amount of data readily leads to mistakes and in turn

God s Speech On God Essay
God gave us the bible so that we can understand rational truths with our mind and know what to
believe. He teaches us how to Worship by painting a picture of the world through his eyes. He
teaches us about ourselves, eternity, why we are here on Earth, and how to know right from wrong
so we can Worship the greatness that is him. Godhas given us many commands like in Matthew
22: 37 39 to follow but we should take the teaching and understand the relationship that is
presented between us and the Worship of him. God wants us to experience him and his world.
By understanding God s invitation to know him better we learn not only more about him, but
more about ourselves. We learn what sins to avoid, what parts of our lives need to be changed,
how we can love others through him, and what are his plans and purpose for our lives thorough
him are. To Worship becomes lessons on how to live a fulfilled life that we could never
accomplish without him like in Psalm 19: 7 8; and Corinthians 5:17.
Worship must be sincere and selfless. For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD
made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary .
Psalms 96:5 6. This illustrates how we must not worship God because of the wealth He
possesses. We must worship him because He is the Lord almighty. Worship is not sincere if it is
done to only benefit your personal wellbeing. It is having a selfless desire deep within ones soul to
give up everything to God,

Gregor Mendel s Fruit Flies Essay
Gregor Mendel s Fruit Flies
Introduction From simple heredity experiments with garden peas, to cloning sheep, the field of
genetics has come a long way. Now we are closer to mapping out the human genetic map due to
advances in technology, and years and years of research. Perhaps the most influential and
groundbreaking scientist, Gregor Mendel, he was responsible to provide a path to where genetics is
now today with his experiments of garden peas.
In lab, fruit flies were crossed to observe inheritance patterns in their offspring. The motivation for
this was to further understand how genes and characteristics are inherited. To use fruit flies would
be much more effective and easier because of a couple of reasons. The ... Show more content on

The F1?s were then observed and then crossed to form the F2 generation.
Genetic Hypothesis The F1 generation hypothesis is that with the Line A, B cross, the F1 for
our group will be expected to be heterozygous dominant (VvBb) at both loci. This is because of
the cross of Line A, which was consisting of Males with the genotype of vvBB, and of line B that
were females with the genotype VVbb. As far as the F2 generations go, the phenotypes are
expected to have a 9:3:3:1 ratio. There should be 9 brown, normal fruit flies, and 3 of each the
brown, vestigial fly and the white, long fly. Finally, there is expected to be only one white,
vestigial fly that possesses homozygous recessive alleles in both loci. There is a chance that there
may be different outcomes to the F2 generation due to the possibility that the Line A and the Line B
generation were not all homozygous dominant in wing type for females and eye color in males.
Such a genotype in the males, vvBb, and such in females, Vvbb, may lead to a different ratio in the
F2 offspring.
Methods In the lab section, we observed two vials containing the Line A and B species. In order
for us to further examine the flies, we ?knocked out? the flies with a chemical anesthetic known
as Fly Nap. Placing the wand covered in Fly Nap into the vial, we ?knocked out? the flies. We
then spilled the flies onto a piece of paper and examined them under a light microscope. What were

Automatic Weapon Ban
Automatic Weapon Ban
July 20th, 2012, twelve are killed and fifty eight are injured at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado.
The man who killed them used a semi automatic rifle with a one hundred round magazine. An
automatic weapon has no use in the United States because all sporting events, and activities with
guns can be accomplished without automatic weapons. It is important because it limits the
possibilities of events like the shooting at the Sandusky school in Ohio. Some would say they are
a good for shooting range activity and most people don t commit crimes with them, getting rid of
automatic weapons would get rid of the crimes committed with them overall. People die because of
the actions taken with with assault rifles. Automatic weapons should be banned in the US because
they are not needed for self defense, and they have almost no use in recreational activities.
A shotgun can offer just as much or even more protection than an automatic weapon because
birdshot, which is a type of shotgun shell, fires multiple little balls at once. A person would only
need one of these shots because it has a good radius. Inside a home, it is all close quarters, which
removes the use of a long range weapon like an automatic rifle. It is better to have a gun that shoots
a radius of projectiles to protect yourself. James D. Torr. stated, A gun is used for protection in less
than two percent of home invasion crimes (web). An automatic weapon would not be as efficient
because it only

Marshall Manson is the managing director of social media, and he gave a great presentation to us
for the business visit at Ogilvy. His background is extensive and quite impressive. The social
media department is responsible for creating campaigns for each of their clients to expand their
brand. One of the examples
Manson showed us in his presentation was the campaign he and his team created for Coca Cola.
The Islamic tradition Ramadan was the basis for this campaign. Muslims that celebrate
Ramadan usually work a half a day, get off early and go home and have a celebration. So
Manson and his team came up with a campaign that would benefit from the Ramadan tradition.
Their strategy was to show the heart wrenching ad in the afternoon when most Muslims were in
their homes watching television or on the internet. When he told us the story behind this
campaign and how much work went into it, I was instantly hooked. This is exactly what I want
to do. Work on campaigns, ads, and work with a team that would challenge my creativity. Manson
was great at presenting the information. He gave us tips on how to get into the PR field. Before
Manson joined Ogilvy he worked for Edelman. Marshall worked in U.S. political campaigns and
for several communications firms also. He is an asset to any company he represents.

The first example of religious symbolic language is presented in the bridge of the song, to
which Mercury sings Bismillah , which is the first word recited in the Quran. The use of
Bismillah allows the Muslim audience to understand the old Mercury , and that it will always
be a part of him. The other use of religious symbolic language is present in the lyric Beelzebub
has a devil put aside for me . The lyric suggests that Mercury is referring to himself as being
possessed by a demon and addressing the view of being considered sinful due to his sexual
orientation, implying that God always knew that he was a homosexual. He is arguing to the
audience that if he was created by God and born with the destiny of being homosexual, then his
sexual orientation is willed by God. Therefore, he states that if God is good and holy, then
whatever God has created should not be considered sinful. Thus, it is important to note that
religious symbolic language, as well as imagery has helped provide the audience a narrative to
understand Mercury s struggle in dealing with religion in relation to his sexual

Fan Fiction Character Appropriation
Fan fiction and character appropriation
Fan Fiction is a transformative practice of writing fiction created by fans based on existing source
work or consists of elements copied from a story world, character or setting, the original source of
the work being expanded can include any qualified material such as novels, films, comics or games.
Legal implications arise due to the contemplation whether it is an infringement of copyright as a
derivative work . Authors generally have a varied opinion on fan fiction, some downright loath
the practice, where as some consider it unimaginative yet unconcerned by it and some compliment
it. The creator of the original work rarely authorises or commissions fan fiction and it is very

Belinda Placing Blame in Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock
I will be examining lines 147 160 of Canto IV in The Rape of the Lock. In this selection, Belinda
speaks in a monologue, apparently regretting past actions that have caused her the loss of her
lock. However, it becomes clear that she is exaggerating her loss and the preventive measures she
could have taken. By citing radical changes that would have been necessary to prevent the
occurrence, she makes it clear that it is very difficult for a woman to escape men. In this manner,
she is able to lay most of the blame for the rape of the lock on the nature of men rather than her own
vain lifestyle. During her exaggerated monologue, Belinda will refer to events earlier ... Show more

For her, the entire day was a terrible day that will live in infamy forever. In lines 149 150 she
says that she would be ten times happier now if she had never even seen Hampton Court. These
first four lines introduce the mood of the passage, with Belinda implying that she regrets having
lived life the way she has. By saying Hampton Court these Eyes had never seen! (Pope IV. 150) she
implies regret at having spent time at Hampton Court and her actions there. This lock may
symbolize her virginity, which indeed was of great pride and value to women of the day. Had she
known that this opulent lifestyle would lead to the loss of her lock, or metaphorically, the loss of
her virginity through rape, she may have lived a more modest life.
In lines 150 151 Belinda is no longer solely blaming herself as she goes on to suggest that she is
not completely at fault for what has transpired. She makes the observation that she is not in any
way the first woman to have ever made the mistake of trusting men. Many other young virgin
women before her have also been lured by the love of the courts, popularity, and the social life only
to be betrayed in various ways. In lines 153 154 she speaks of how she would rather have not
been admired and sought after and instead lived secluded in some distant northern land or island.
This may be implying that she should have lived like religious puritan women. These women led
chaste lives and many lived on the sparsely

Descriptive Essay About God
Coming Clean I don t think there s a god, but I think there s a part of the mind we like to call god
. Right out of high school, I experienced that part of myself for the first time. A friend of mine
sold me a quarter bag of srooms and I ate them all within an hour or so. All through the evening, I
sat in my chair shuckling like a rabbi in his tallit. Every nerve in my body sang out at once and I
felt myself surrounded by ghost. They spoke in the great language which holds meaning without
words. And so, everything was a silent flicker watching shadows, seeing the true depth of the
sun s rays for the first time. A few months later, I tripped on acid and saw how everything in the
world was connected. And that, I said, is universal bliss. A a few months later, I tripped again
and saw how everything in the world was disconnected. Existence crawls forth with the intention
to connect, but it never quite gets there. All of us our quite terribly alone, not for lack of people.
We re alone because we have this ghost inside of us, who speaks in a language no one can hear
or understand. In that, I mean you will die with your music still inside of you. And that, I said, is
incredibly sad. I discovered Percocet after a surgery on my jaw. I came home with my mindsailing
high in orange and yellow clouds with rays of sunlight streaming. I attacked the wallwith old
brushes and acrylic paint. I found a rhythm with my chaotic swipes and stabs and my whole body

The purpose of the juvenile incarceration project is to gain insights into whether or not parental
incarceration is related to juvenile incarceration. The research problem is the loss is the cost of
incarceration to the state or society. Incarceration is expensive with costs to society for the crimes
committed and the resulting confinement of the convicted offenders. This research hopes to

Expatriation Reflection Paper
I have recently been hosted to speak at an eminent university to a class of graduate students
about my story and experience with expatriation. This experience has been quite overwhelming
since it was one of the few moments that I felt the exhilaration and passion of giving and
serving. The most rewarding part was sensing their eagerness to learn from real life experience,
the hunger to discover more about what lays beyond the doors of the university campus. I
decided to speak that day about the process of adapting to a new country and culture. Taking
leaps of faith I believe that making major leaps in life is a school on its own, this obviously came
from experience. Everything that I have done to date in my journey have been mainly driven by
taking risks and stepping into the unknown. Jumping on that plane when I was a young teenager,
moving to Australia and not ever knowing whether I will ever come back was all part of taking
serious steps. This has become a natural phenomenon, changing places, experiencing a nomadic
lifestyle. In doing so, I started picking up on a pattern and seeing a cycle forming every time I
change countries and culture. So what is that pattern and how does it work? Following an
intuitive sense I truly believe that coincidences are like an encrypted message or guide that
eventually lead us into a certain path or veer us to a trajectory that we ought to follow in life. I
have undergone few of those coincidences that I eventually got to learn how to decipher it in

Augustine Of Hippo And Lady Julian Of Norwich
The story of Creation found in Genesis 1 3 has captured the attention of countless Christian
theologians throughout the ages. Despite the fact that the text of these chapters are quite short, it
has proved itself to be a fertile ground from which many of the central tenets of Christian doctrine
have sprouted. This fruitful text has also spurred a variety of differing interpretations of the
Creation and Fall. Augustine of Hippoand Lady Julian of Norwich are two theologians who
interpreted Genesis 1 3 in vastly different ways. The aim of this paper is to make a thematically
organized comparison of Julian of Norwich s interpretation (which is mostly apparent within her
short parable on the Lord and the Servant, Revelations of Divine Love) with Augustine s influential
interpretation of Genesis 1 3. While Augustine s interpretation is a classic understanding of the Fall
that has had a lasting impact on Western society, in contrast Julian s nuanced understanding of the
Fall has had little influence in most subsequent theological thought until relatively recently. Indeed,
it wasn t until the 20th century that her work began to be broadly in circulation. Even in modern
reflections on her theology, many scholars underappreciate or misunderstand her theology. Some
theologians even suggest that she is moving towards unorthodoxy. Additionally, although Julian of
Norwich is held in high esteem by many scholars and non scholars, she is not always recognized as
a highly complex

The United Nations And The Treaty Of The Cold War
Abstract The United Nations was formed upon the agreement with the sovereign nations and its
frontiers conceded with the Charter. After the end of the cold war, there has been a burden on the

There are some of the activities which are imperative to be implemented but still due to some

Major Problems for United Nations According to Horgan, (2008), the United Nations Organization
has seen many critical challenges and is facing several kinds of challenges at present times. The
maintenance of internal peace and security is the biggest problem that the UN is facing right now.
It is important that it should maintain peace and security not only by the resolution of military

Women In Homer s Iliad And The Woman In Genesis
The women in Homer s Iliad and the women in Genesis both exhibit the accepted societal values in
a woman through their duties as wives, which typically consists of obedience and the ability to
sustain their husband s lineage. Rebekah and Andromache both assume their roles as wives, but
sometimes act in ways outside of what was considered normal in their society. Though both
Rebekah and Andromache maintain the classic role of a wife, they occasionally contradict the
expectations of how a womanshould behave by making decisions traditionally made by men.
Through revolutionary behaviors demonstrated by both women, they grant themselves more
authority and power in decision making, which in turn affects the fate of each woman s family. Both

insight and advice with her husband demonstrates not only the type of relationship the two have
between one another, but how Andromache steps out of the classic idea of being one with very
limited power in her ability to influence her husband s views. She states her views to take

ultimately his own self interest controls his actions, just like Andromache s does to her, and

Andromache to do her wifely duties and Andromache obeys as she went back home (Il. 6.520).
Here she exhibits a sort of contradiction to her previous actions, from being outspoken and
making decisions to reversing back to her boundaries as a wife by obeying her husband s
demands. Paradoxically, Andromache s previous behaviors would show that she is defying social
norms, however she recognizes her limitations once Hector rejects her ideas

Importance Of A Lightbulb Moment
A lightbulb moment. My writing process has officially kicked off with the lightbulb moment.
This is the moment when the first line of my paper pops in my head or I have a sense of
direction in where the paper is headed. I can depend on the fact that this will not happen by
staring at a blinking cursor on a blank page. Some of my better lightbulb moments have been on
the bus heading home or the second I get into bed to go to sleep that is why my mom always
taught me to keep post its and a penin my nightstand! I usually like to give myself at least a couple
days to write my paper, edit the paper, and to make sure I have an effective mic drop at the end, as
my English teacher last year said. However, seeing as I am starting this paper the night before it
is due, I should also mention that I have no problem starting last minute if I know what I am going
to say and essentially have the framework of a paper in my head. The lightbulb moment is the
hardest to control, but a critical part to my writingprocess.
The setting in which I write my paper is the easiest to control, and also a critical part to my
writing process. I find that the setting changes with each type of paper. I write at my desk in my
room for the average paper, especially if I am feeling confident in how the paper is going so far. I
can play music in the background and am two floors up from the kitchen and the family room,
thereby avoiding distractions. If it is a paper that is intimidating by name, like my

The Conquest of Greece by the Roman Empire and the Success...
The successes of mystery religions in the Roman world were greatly influenced by the Roman
expansion, especially the conquest of Greece by the Roman Empire where their cultures and
traditions were adopted and modified (Perry et al. 2013, p. 122). This was the foremost reason of
the initial spread of mystery religions, especially the cult of Hellenised Isis, in Rome. In addition,
the political trade involving grains and slaves also played a significant role in the extended reach
of the Hellenised cult of Isis among the Romans (Bowden 2010, p. 161). Moreover, the practices
of the religion were considered to be appealing to the women and the poor. Gender equality was

The conquest on Greece in particular, had led to a significant increase in the number of educated
Greek slaves entering Rome (Perry et al. 2013, p. 126). According to Cumont, slaves were
spreading their beliefs to the gods of their respective countries (1956, p. 24). It is therefore not
surprising for mystery cults to enter and succeed in the Roman world. The mystery religion of
Isis, for example, was considered to be the most successful mystery religion above all (Ferguson
1970, p. 106). This is due to the belief that Isis was ... [the] highest of the god ... (Apuleius
Golden ass ex. 11.1). In addition, the practice of Roman religion could be seen as polytheistic.
Hence, people tended to yearn for greater blessings from the gods and goddesses. In this case,
Isis was considered to be an option. Moreover, Romans valued the different practises of their
conquered states and even assimilated those practises into their own (Perry et al. 2013, p. 122).
The conquests of numerous states, therefore, not only allowed Isis cults to succeed in Roman
world but also provided Rome for its necessary resources.
Political trade was another reason for the successes of mystery religions in the Roman world. To
illustrate, the cult of Isis was able to succeed in Rome through the political agreement between
Rome and Egypt in the early first century BC (Bowden 2010, p. 161; Kamm 1995, p. 96). According

Essay On Railways In Canada
A major part of Canadian history is about railways, they seemed to transform Canadian societies
into something bigger and better. Before railways Canada had been faced with a problem in the
winter which was the lack of transportation, railways seemed to transform Canada by providing
jobs, illuminating violence, and creating international connections.
The creation of the railways in Canada was naturally a big job because of this fact many jobs were
created for various Canadians. People were always needed to create the path and do the hard
labour that was involved, however, this did not pay well for the very physical work that was
involved. Much more people were now being employed to construct the railways and drive the
newly built trains around that had carried many goods.
The railroad system had also decreased the amount of domestic violence that was being taken
place in Canadian society. Before the railroad construction in Canada, many people who grew
crops as farmers especially in bulk forms had a very difficult time getting their products to market
especially in the winter. For an example, grain, if a farmer was not able to get their goods to the
market to sell they would usually turn the grain into whiskey. This naturally led to an over the

Biomagnetic Therapy Essay
Biomagnetic Therapy
Biomagnetic therapy is an alternative form of healing that has been in existence for over 100,000
years (1). The AncientGreeks discovered the very first natural magnet in the form of the lodestone,
and Hippocrates, the father of medicine, noted it s healing powers (2).
Unlike the United States, Japan, China, India, Austria, and Germany all are advanced in the field of
magnetic therapy. (2). The United States does, though, use magnets in complex machines to help
better understand the body and brain, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), which uses
magnetic fields to formulate 3 D images of the brain, and electroncephalogreaphs (EEG), which

The explanation: All cells that are alive are electrical; that is the outside of a cell has a negative
charge and the inside, a positive charge. This combination of opposite charges allows the cell to
function normally. When a part of the body becomes damaged, such as the body s tissue, the
damaged area responds with inflammation, which is caused by a lack of blood flow. This lack
of blood flow blocks the body s natural ability to provide oxygen and nutrients to the injured
cells. Thus, the polarity of the cells gets out of whack. The role biomagnets play in aiding
damaged tissue is based upon the belief that magnets can realign the cell s polarity, which helps
the cell get back to functioning normally. They claim that an increase in the diameter of the body
s blood vessels is also an affect of using a biomagnet on damaged tissue. This enlargement allows
more blood, carrying rich nutrients and oxygen, to flow to the injured area and leave with tissue s
toxins. (1)
They also say that the magnet s energy has been described as a catalyst, which speeds up
biological processes and enables the body to heal itself and ease pain. This catalyst stimulates
blood circulation, allowing more oxygen to be distributed all over the body. (3)

Theme Of Conflict In Eveline
Do you remember the hardships you went through as a teenager? If you are a teen, what are some
things you struggle with? Without a doubt, being a teen is very difficult. Teens are emotional,
rebellious, awkward, lost, etc. The list goes on and on. But it definitely doesn t help when an
abusive father is involved. Both Evelyn and Eleanor struggle with abuse from the men in their
family, but take upon it differently. Although, they both have lover to keep their mind off their
home life, but what happens when conflict bursts between them? What happens when their only
escape is lost? What do they do then? Both stories portray how conflict impacts their decision
making. The protagonist of the short story Eveline and the book Eleanor and Park both present the
hardships of being a teenager through the conflict they have with their father.
In the short story Eveline , Eveline s mother and Harry, her brother, are also involved in the mental

Positive And Negative Effects Of Thermoregulation
Thermoregulation is the control of the body s temperature. Normal body core temperature is
typically around 37 В°C, staying within a functional range of 35 to 41 В°C. (PГ©riard et al., 2015)
Temperature during exercise can have both positive and negative effects and therefore it is
important to manage it through training and heat acclimatisation. It has been found that power
output and speed of cyclists decreased during hot conditions. (Racinais, S et al., 2015) However,
due to heat acclimatisation the decrements were progressively increased, therefore suggesting that
heat acclimatisation can be used successfully. (PГ©riard et al., 2015). Similarly, it can be found
that exercise increases body temperatureand the resulting heat stored becomes a factor inhibiting
exercise performance. Loss of heat by evaporation can eventually hinder performance. Therefore, it
is again found that acclimatization improves performance by affecting heat loss mechanisms.
(Reilly et al, 2006). A study was carried out by Webborn et al., (2005) to test weather precooling
/cooling in intermittent sprint exercises in a hot environment would reduce a rise in core
temperature. 8 male participants took part in 4 heat stress trials with the independent variables

much horrific ideas that eventually build up to haunt one s mind. There was an iciness, a
sickening of the heart an unredeemed deadness of thought which no goading of the imagination
could torture into aught of the sublime (Poe 28). One s own mind can play all sorts of games on
you if not controlled correctly. The gothic elements that composed the creation of a gothic
literature story were dispersed throughout the works of Morgenstern, Irving, Hawthrone, and Poe.
Their fictional stories, Night Circus, The devil and Tom Walker , Dr. Heidegger s experiment , and
Fall of the House of Usher all include spirits, mystery, and entrapment among their works of gothic

Essay Role of Women in Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit
Role of Women in Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit
In the novel Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit, by Jeanette Winterson, most of the important,
decision making, characters are female. Jeanette, the female protagonist, is greatly influenced by
her mother, a strong, overbearing, eccentric woman, and by Elsie, a prominent member of the
family parish who becomes Jeanette s only friend and closest confidant. Elsie and Jeanette s mother
act as polar forces in Jeanette s life, with the mother encouraging suppression of unholy or unnatural
feelings and thoughts, and Elsie encouraging expression of feelings and accepting oneself for who
one really is.
Jeanette s mother, referred to by name only once in the novel, is probably the second ... Show more

White, to believe that the people next door are making love. She and Ms. White slithered up and
down the skirting board (page 53), trying eagerly to hear what the heathen were doing. However, at
the same time as Mother s natural interest peeked through, she suppressed them by condemning
Next Door s behavior.
Throughout the book, many attempts are made by Jeanette s mother to make Jeanette suppress her
feelings and sexual orientation. When Mother finds out that Jeanette is a lesbian, she kicks her out
of the house, saying, You ll have to leave, I m not havin demons here. (Page 136). That incident,
however, happens only after Mother and the Pastor try many times to make Jeanette repent and
renounce her sexual feelings toward women, including trying to make her feel guilty and shameful,
sending away her sexual partners, and locking her in a room for thirty six without food or light.
Elsie, on the other hand, offers a different approach to life, and serves as a counterexample to
Mother s repressive influences. Elsie is a member of the church who befriends Jeanette and
understands her problems, and is one of the only people with whom Jeanette feels open and
comfortable. The manner in which Elsie encourages Jeanette to express herself can be seen when
the young protagonist skillfully crafts a sampler which her teachers criticize sharply for it s text,
which reads the summer is ended and we are not yet saved. (Page 39). When

Mayan Economy Research Paper
Mayan economy was largely based on food and agriculture. For most Mayans, farming was the
main labor resource, this job was dominated by men. Mayans would also work everyday in order
to support their families. It is important to know that one farmer did not own all of a piece of
land, as farming was communal. It is also crucial to know that no money was used in Mayan
economics. Farmers were required to give portions of crops to the government as a form of tax.
Other items used to pay this tax were salt, cloth, honey, fruit and sometimes domestic animals.
These items were also used in bartering and paying for certain things one would need. In Ancient
Maya agriculture was the basic form of economy. The second form of agriculture was raising...

Each city state had their own military as it was hard to create an Mayan empire due the
limitations of food and transportation. According to archaeologists as the Classic Collapse time
period came closer, wars became more intense. Wars would commonly happen among separate
kingdoms and there would be revolts against the capitals of each Mayan city. Mayan wars were
led by kings also known as Ahau. In war, nobles were high ranking military leaders. The larger
cities states in Maya had well trained armies who were always ready to attack and be on the
defensive side. When one city would be attacked by another it was for the reason to capture high
ranking prisoners to use in their sacrifice. Also bigger cities would attack smaller cities to dominate
them. Important military conquest include the battle between Calakmul and Tikal during the fifth
and sixth century. Both these city states were powerful and dominant economically, through their
military and politically. After Calakmul defeated Tikal, Tikal took a long time to regain its former
high status of the city it used to be. Calakmul continued to dominate other cities thus continuing to
destroy the cities. Some cities were never able to recover, such as Dos Pilas and Aguateca. As the
decline of the Mayan civilization began, the military downfall proceeded. From 700 to 900 A.D.

The Feminist Movement
The feminist movement has been developing its method of solving social and economical issues in
three consecutive waves, from the end of the 19th century till present. Each stage had its
benchmarks and significant shifts in the treatment of women from viewing them as objects and
commodity to perceiving them as citizens in full rights and creators of their own destiny.
Gradually, together with the growth of self consciousness and demand for more rights and
freedoms, suffragists and later feminists managed to secure more legal precedents and norms
manifesting and consolidating their achievements, including the right to vote, to own property and
participate in public life. As the number of these precedents accumulated and their visibility in the
legal field became clearer, as their practical application turned from the exception to a norm, then
the issue raised: is the system which needs such significant amendments viable and whose interest
does it represent? As one of the most prominent spokespersons on the issue, Catharine A.
MacKinnon, described it, the existing system of justice and the power itself attained the male
shape; and lack of power and inability to influence the happening got the female shape. The
overall message broadcasted by the society as a whole and the legal field in particular was that the
established state of affairs was normal and universally accepted, and women should be contended
with it, as everyone else was. Everyone else in this case meant the

An Analysis Of Weisman s The World Without Us
The Power of Nature: Rhetorical Strategies in Weisman s The World Without Us: Unbuilding Our
Homes In the book World Without Us, author Alan Weisman talks about what would happen to the
natural and built environment we ve established if humans suddenly disappeared. In Chapter two,
Unbuilding Our Home, Weisman effectively informs his readers of the total control that nature has
on our society by describing the immediate effect it takes on our own homes. He forces the readers
to recognize that we coexist with nature yet nature has the upper hand on man made objects.
Weisman achieves this by targeting the readers emotions through description and personification
and by providing insight that appeals to the reader s intellect of the future. In Chapter 2, Weisman
walks us meticulously through the steps that lead inevitably to the complete destructionof almost
every single part of our houses. The first and last enemy is water. Water sneaks in at the weak
points of roofs, near the chimney. Mold begins to grow on wet wood; under the mold, threadlike
filaments called hyphae are secreting enzymes that break cellulose and lignin down into fungi
food. (page 16) The roof falls in. More water enters through the windows, some shattered when
birds flew into them. The floor corrodes. Squirrels and lizards eat the drywall. Vinyl siding
begins to crack as its plasticizers weaken. Even aluminum begins to break down, as salt eats it
away. Steel gas pipes begin to rust away.

Conflict Between Romeo And Juliet Essay
The conflict between the Capulet and The Montague families grows stronger every day as well the
push for supremacy. Romeos intrusion into a Capulet s party transformed Tybalt s condition into an
uncontrolled state which led to a fight between his nemeses Romeo and Mercutio. The dispute
between these 3 young adults is described as humorous but quite solemn by Shakespeare. The
emotions that each character portrays at the beginning sequence are quite joyful and members of
both houses speak with sarcastic tones and many jokes are passed along to one another. As the
scene continues these emotions and events take a turn for the worst and the Motivations for the
house members are now clear, one will claim revenge while the other will protect his... Show more

It is thought that these words were of a godly being. In the Shakespearean play Tybalthas the
unfortunate event of slaying Mercutio. During his final minutes, which were filled with agonizing
pain, he expresses his thoughts and feelings on the Capulet and Montague Houses saying A
plague o both your houses! as well as speaking ill of Romeo in which he states Why the devil
came you between us? I was hurt under your arm . These words alone had a major impact on all
bystanders by averring in a metaphorical and hostile tone that the houses of Capulet and
Montague should be rid of their feud or more men (like Mercutio) will wind up either dead, hurt
or betrayed by one of their own. The passing away of Mercutio also dampens the previous joyful
mood of Tybalt, Romeo and the bystanders in which they now relies that Mercutio s words were
not of a normal human being but of a spiritual presence/being, which tries to portray the idea of
equality and how no one person or in this case family should be higher than any other. If peace

Cosmopolitanism In Things Fall Apart And Kwame Anthony Achebe
Throughout life, one is faced with choices between individualism and communitarianism. Such
choices are reflected in many works of literature, including Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall
Apart and Kwame Anthony Appiah s Cosmopolitanism. The current report examines the first
reading in the context of the second. Achebe s story is about the clash between tradition and
change in an African village; Appiah s work advocates a unified perspective from which we are
seen to be connected through basic humanism. The basic assumption of this author is that when one
applies Appiah s idea of obligation to others in Cosmopolitanismto the character of Okonkwo in
Achebe s Things Fall Apart(who is also the book s protagonist), the character changes in terms of
how his fate or destiny is conveyed, as well as other aspects of his development. Although
Okonkwo is a character of complexity, depth, and three dimensionality, one of his chief features is
his resistance to change. This resistance is personal in nature, and Okonkwo then tries to impose
this personal resistance on a greater community, rather than listening to it. By emphasizing the
failure of the personal over the communal in Okonkwo s actions, Achebe draws sharp parallels
between people helping each other and people driving each other towards entropy. According to
Appiah, cosmopolitanism can be defined according to several of its divisions: One is the idea that
we have obligations to others, obligations that stretch

Risk Management Plan For A Company
Risk Management
The process that helps project managers follow when they need to calculate, identify, and
manage risk in a company is defined as Risk Management. When a company faces risk, risk
management would be the ideal solution to use that to solve the known and unknown risks. Risk
management plans should be ready to help reduce and prevent those risks because most risks in a
company are uncertain. When a company is facing risks that are uncertain, these risks come up
very fast and they could be potentially harmful. They should be treated right away. Of course the
work must be performed first as long as they are not of sever threat. Perform the work as planned
keeping in mind those uncertain risks.
Some risk management plans requires ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can ensure that employees are focused on their jobs and not getting distracted. Another
prevention method could be moving dangerous equipment s to a different side of the factory
where special safety precautions are implemented. Performing necessary maintenance on factory
equipment can also reduce the likelihood of an accident. (Larcker and Miller, 2014). Having
regular safety meeting with employees can reduce factory accidents. Managers have to be
involved to make sure employees are safe at the workplace. These are some of the precautions we
can take to prevent the likelihood of a risk.
There are prevention methods available for companies to use, these are: risk management
techniques which include risk avoidance, loss control, risk retention, and risk transfer, risk
mitigation plan, risk analysis, mitigation plan implementation, risk assessment table, and risk matrix.
Areas of Risk Management
There are many areas to focus on when it comes to risk management, depending on your company s
infrastructure; risk management is going to be different. The areas of risk management will include
compliance risks, financial risks, operational risks, and strategic risks.
Compliance risks will involve industry standards and regulatory and statuary standards. Financial
risks will include loss of revenues, exchange rate losses, purchasing practices, performance and
schedule, and lawsuits for facility injuries.

Witchcraft In Peter Morton s The Trials Of Tempel Anneke
Peter Morton in The Trials of Tempel Anneke discusses different types of magic including high
magic, used by those educated, such as alchemy, and low magic including spells and charms. It
is of the popular belief that maleficium alone would not have caused many witch trials in Europe,
rather it was due to the belief of a link between maleficium and diabolism which requires a pact
with the Devil (Morton, 2006). Magic was not uncommon in early modern Europe and was
accepted in communities. Fear of magic linked to the Devil encouraged fear of low magic and
accusations of witchcraft. Anna Roleffes, also known as Tempel Anneke, was arrested in 1663 due
to accusations of witchcraft presented by her neighbors. Tempel Anneke had many attributes...

She was a social outcast due to not meeting social expectations of the community.
To impose order throughout the Roman Empire a code known as the Carolina influenced witch
trials (Morton, 2006). The Carolina was developed by the medieval church from Roman origins
(Morton, 2006, XXX). Investigations required testimony from at least two reliable witnesses and
then an interrogation of the accused (Morton, 2006). Stages of the Carolina include the initiation of
an investigation, the collection of testimonies, and most importantly two confessions, one under
torture if required and one without torture (Morton, 2006). While in the beginning, Tempel
Anneke denied the use of witchcraft and a pact made with the Devil, she eventually gave the
court both confessions. Folio 28 contains the first confession under torture where Anneke
confesses to learning sorcery, making a pact with the Evil Enemy who came as a middle sized
man, that is, the average man, who had black hair and wore a black coat, and fornicating with the
Devil (Morton, 2006, p.103). The confession received that was not under torture is discussed in
Folio 29. In Folio 29 Anneke repeats the confession she gave under torture while also attempting to
repent her sins (Morton, 2006). Her final confession is found in Folio 43 where she admits to
renouncing God, learning sorcery, visiting the Devil s Dances , fornicating with the Devil, and
admitting guilt to the testimonies of Hans

All The Light We Cannot See Quotes
I m only trying to make sense of this war inside my head. This quote relates to the characters in
All The Light We Cannot See because everyone is battling with love, truth, or identity while
battling the war in Europe. Marie Laure is living in Saint Malo with her crazy great uncle while the
war is raging on outside the city. Werner was accepted into the Hitler Youth
School and was sent out
into the war to track resistance radio signals. Sergeant von Rumpel is also on the search for the
Sea of Flames diamonds, and what Marie Laure doesn t know about her father can greatly hurt her.
In this novel, three of the characters are searchingfor either truth, love, or identity.
Knowing the difference between the truth and lies is a very common theme in All The Light
We Cannot See. Many characters are lied to by their loved ones and about things that can affect
them greatly, and von Rumpel wants to know the truth about the location about the Sea of
Flames. Sergeant von Rumpel is in dire need of the Sea of Flames diamond, so he can showcase
it in his new museum. He will do whatever is needed to locate the diamond among the vastness of
Europe and the war. Before Paris was invaded, the Museum of Natural History made three
replicas of the diamond and gave the replicas and the real diamond to four trustworthy
employees. The catch: none of them knew if they had a replica of the real diamond. Von
Rumpel was in Paris and found the shop of Dupont, which the owner later admitted to making
replicas and dispersing them in many locations. Once von Rumpel found out the locations, he
was even more determined to find all four diamonds . Especially because he recently found out
that he had been diagnosed with a tumor, and the stone is known to help a person live forever.
He has visited many places in search for the replicas or the diamond: Three replicas. Plus the real
stone. Somewhere on this planet among its sextillion grains of sand. Von Rumpel has visited the
museum, a jeweler, multiple homes, and Marie Laure s house in Paris in search of the Sea of
Flames. His main struggle is knowing if the stone is a replica or real. He is putting a great amount
of trust in the people he has confided in, and he hopes that they have given

Extinct genes called pseudogenes are a part of our DNA but, because of mutations, are shut off.
Studies in the 1990s have attempted to resurrect these genes but have been largely unable to do so.
It is thought that these genes were functional in pre human species such as Australopithicenes and
Homo Habilis etc. Things such as exceptional hairiness in Neanderthals is thought to be an example
of genes that were functional and advantageous during their history but are not needed or functional
anymore.

33% of autistic people have exceptional abilities. This certainly supports the idea in the text that
autistic people might hold the key for unlocking super skills in the rest of the human population.

Douglas Fir Dominance Essay
Out of the three parameters we collected, dominance is the one that tells us which of the species
is currently the most influential in the community. The species with the highest relative
dominance in area one was the Douglas Fir (90.6%). This data tells you that the Douglas Fir is
very versatile in the way it helps the community. The Douglas Fir siphons all the nutrients to itself
and provides shelter, shade, and food for animals. It also forms mycorrhizal relationships, which
helps nearby vegetation grow. In Area 2, the species with the highest dominance value was the
Oregon White Oak (70.6%). Oregon White Oaks provide shelter, housing, and food to various
animals as well. Diversity of birds is often higher in Oregon White Oaks than in an adjacent
coniferous forest. Using the dominance data, it tells us that at this moment in time Oregon Oak and

spread of dominance, the species that had the greater dominance was oregon white following
that was the black oak, then the live oak then the bay. This shows more diversity than area 1.
Light is also plays a huge role , in area 1 the slope was facing north . In area 2, the slope was
facing southwest which makes a huge difference in the amount of light received by the plants in
the areas. The slope that was facing north generally gets less light in comparison to the southwest
since it gets the bulk of the sun. This alone tells that in area 2 there is much more light available
for plants to uptake and do photosynthesis than in area 1. This further proves that in area 2 is able

  • 2. Climate Change Is The Global Climate System Climate is part of our everyday lives. What we experience is the global climate system. According to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, climate change is, a change of climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity alters the composition of the atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climatevariability observed over comparable time periods. (Allen, Seaman Delascio, 2009) Australia s climate has warmed a lot more since 1910 by the average of 0.9 C. it has been rising dramaticllay since 1950 s.the daytime temperatures have increased by 0.8 C whereas in the night time, we experience 1.1 C more heat than the people living in 1900 s. (BOM CSIRO, 2014). In 2004 more than 234 newspaper articles have concluded that we may have, in fact, reached the tipping point for the climate change. Walker (2006) believes that this man made climate change has caused havoc on the earths atmosphere and the most striking of all the components is the arctic. Farthest north is the carapace of sea ice over the Arctic Ocean. South of that is the vast ice sheet that covers Greenland. And then there is the ocean conveyor belt, which originates in a small region of the Nordic seas and carries heat and salt around the world. All three seem to have inbuilt danger zones that may deserve to be called tipping points. And the outside forces pushing them towards those points are gathering. It has been found that the summer sea ice has shrunk by an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparison Of Romeo And Juliet 1996 And 1996 Romeo and Juliet is one of the most commemorated and referenced plays in the history of the world. Because it is so popular, many variations of the play exist. Since different ideas about the play have produced a multitude of different reenactments, lots of plays out there have many differences. Three of these versions, Two of which are movies made, one in 1968, the other in 1996, and the last is an actual play production on Broadway in 2014, have many differences and similarities. What we can interpret from these variations is that even though the words on the script may not change, with time, culture can alter the appearance and mood of the production. Romeo and Juliet (1968) was filmed mostly in Rome, Italy. The movie featured sixteen year old... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of these similarities come between Romeo + Juliet (1996), and Romeo and Juliet (1968). Both of these productions are movies, and such allows the viewer to get a better visual experience of the script by Shakespeare. Two two of these share many qualities, such as the Montagues and Capulets being two of the wealthiest houses in Verona, and a very open conflict between each other. The two of these also share some contrast. In the 1968 film, both houses were Caucasian, however, in the 1996 film, there is an ethnic difference between the Montagues, who are white, and the Capulets, who are Hispanic, except for Juliet and Juliet s direct family. Another difference is that the fight between the houses in the 1996 version was more gang related, violent, and involves the use of firearms, while the 1968 version is a chivalrous conflict, and cheap swords, not guns, are used. What s also the same between these two is that the setting in both of these have hot climates. Rome, Italy, which is where the 1968 version was filmed, typically has warmer temperatures year round. Los Angeles, California, where the 1996 film was set has hot and dry temperatures and weather, especially in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Opium Research Paper The trend has started to evolve already, in 460 B.C. a Greek physician, also known as The Father of Medicine , named Hippocrates learns about the opium poppy plant. He notices that it is useful to treating internal diseases, for women and epidemics. Alexander the Great introduces the opium to the people of Persia and India around 330 B.C. Opium is now used by Arabs, Greeks, and Romans as a sedative and soporific. 400 A.D., opium thebaicum, from the Egyptian fields at Thebes, is first introduced to China by Arab traders. For a couple of hundreds of years opium had vanished from all the records. In 1500 it came back, Portuguese, while trading along the East China Sea, they started the smoking of opium. • 5. The Survey Method Of Choice For A Researcher There are many situations that make conducting an interview the survey method of choice for a researcher. The interview can be completed face to face, either individually or as part of a focus group, or it can be completed by telephone. All of these methods allow a richer opportunity to gather information in a more open ended fashion, allowing the interviewer to take note of body language, tone of voice, and other aesthetic aspects of the participant. Salant and Dillman (1994) recommend face to face interviewsurveys when respondents are unlikely to respond willingly or accurately in writing, when the questionnaire is complex, and when projects are well funded and include professional, experienced interviewers. Face to face interviews are generally preferred over telephone interviews, since body language and other nuances can be more closely monitored. Ng and Coakes (2014) point out that not all the data collected will be numerical, and contextual and textual data can also be analyzed. Brace (2004) also makes note that being in the same room allows the interviewer to use prompt cards and other visuals that would be inhibited over the phone. Focus groups, on the other hand, allow the advantage of a face to face meeting while making good use of time and cost by having several people in the room together. This setting helps weed out extreme views, creates a forum for discussion and argument in a controlled setting, and can stimulate opinions and ideas through a group ... • 6. Shirley Jackson s The Lottery Shirley Jackson s The Lottery Shirley Jackson s The Lottery is an excellent example of an allegorical short story. In this story, the reader learns of a town s lottery that takes place once a year, every year. It has been a tradition in this small rural town for many years and the villagers never question these activities, they just blindly go along with it. But what the reader doesn t know is just what kind of prize the winner is going to obtain. Jackson s use of symbolism is shown through the description of the characters, significant objects, and the actions in the story. These elements are used to represent the death that is associated with the lottery. The first allegorical use is seen through the description ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of the blackness makes the reader think of death and evil. The family which draws the black dot on the paper is the family marked for death. The slips of paper are held in a black box which signifies the horrible outcome. Everything that is terrible and evil is shown through the color black. If someone gets the color black, then they are going to die. It s Hutchinson. It s Bill. (236) Everyone in the village knows what s to come for the Hutchinson family. The actions involved with the lottery are symbolic also. At the beginning of the story the reader learns that the children are gathering stones into a big pile. This represents just how unconscious their actions are. The village is blind to it s own motives. Tessie was fine with the lottery until it was she who was the chosen one. Tessie becomes the scapegoat for the village. She is a symbol of disobedience and the other villagers must stone her to death to stop further outbreaks of rebellion against the lottery. They are unable to articulate their rebellion because the massive force of ideology stands in their way. Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original black box, they still remembered to use stones. (238) The tradition is so old that all they care about is stoning the victim without thinking about how evil the tradition really is. The Lottery is very allegorical in every sense. • 7. Torres Strait Islanders Stereotypes пѓјThe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have had many impacts on their culture since European settlement in Australia. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders were seen to be savages with no civilisation and as such Australia was seen as Terra Nullius . With European settlement Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders saw a loss of their land and culture, labour exploitation, introduced diseases, change of diet and a loss in their rights as a citizen and as a human being. Many laws and policies were introduced which controlled an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders life, many things for which we take for granted today. Things such as residence, employment, marriage, social and daily life were all restricted. Most notably was the laws introduced that allowed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to be forcibly removed from their families. пѓјMany Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have experienced trauma, loss, isolation and abuse and because of this are quite hesitant to engage with services and interact with other cultures as they are fearful of similar things occurring to them. • 8. How Does Rosalind Use Dramatic Irony In As You Like It Both As You Like It and The Outing make use of verbal irony. In As You Like It, Rosalind decides to take on a male persona in order to talk with Orlando openly. She gives herself the name Ganymede and dresses up like a man. Later in the play, Orlando has a conversation with Ganymede and does not realize that he is in fact Rosalind in disguise. Rosalind, dressed as Ganymede, chides him to woo her as if she were Rosalind: What would you say to me now / an I were your very very Rosalind? (IV. i. 74 75). Each time Rosalind insists that she is Rosalind is ironic because she is simultaneously Rosalind and is playing the part of Rosalind. Orlando fails to realize this. Similarly, in The Outing, Elaine does not realize who someone actually... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In As You Like It, Celia s and Rosalind s friendship seems intimate and intense. They speak to each other as if they are lovers and not friends. At the beginning of the play, Rosalind is upset about her father s banishment. The two characters quickly make up because of Rosalind s sacrifice. She says that she will ignore her problems to focus on Celia. The characters speak to one another as if they are in a romantic relationship although they are cousins. In addition to blurring the line between men and women, Shakespeare blurs the line between platonic relationships and intimate ones. Larry Charles does the same in The Outing with Jerry and George. In doing so, Shakespeare and Charles are able to play with their respective characters and mislead the audience. Jerry and George say and do several things throughout the episode that imply they are in a relationship. For instance, Jerry and George bicker about minor things such as George s shirt and how clean a pear is. Although the audience knows that Jerry and George are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Social Arrangement That Permits Have More Than One... Polygyny, the social arrangement that permits a man to have more than one wife at the same time, exists in all parts of the world. Although looked down upon by societies views mainly in developed countries, among the 849 human societies, 75 percent practice polygyny. Seeing this, although common in developed countries, it poses a question for the origin of monogamy. Is monogamy really the prevalent practice or simply a moral ideology? Ancient Hebrews, Mormons in the United States and Chinese traditionalists, originated the practice of polygyny, however the modern day practice is concentrated in Africa, the Middle East, and Indonesia. Although in a much advanced time, the traditionalist understanding for polygamy still holds true for majority of those who practice it. Men are able to acquire these wives based on distinct factors, not a brawl for all, as many perceive it to be. Polygamy is used for many different reasons. Per Anthropologists it could be used for the following purposes: Increase the probability of children, increase labor supply within a kinship network, dealing with the problem of surplus women, attempting to expand a man s alliance (more power) or to provide sexual satisfaction during periods of post partum for the woman (Macfarlane 1986). Polygamy is inclusive but not restrictive to the wives sharing the same home along with the same husband. Some have wives with different homes that are interdependent of one another. • 10. The Correlation Of Voters Attitudes About The Liberal... Introduction In this study, I m focusing on the correlation of voters behaviors about the Liberal party of Canada in the 2015 election. The relationship between Justin Trudeau and the party and what effects to gain more votes, pros and cons, the strengths and the weaknesses among different group of the voters. I did comparisons between the main three Canadian parties (Liberal, Conservative, NDP) and did a research report to help to understand the correlates of their support. This research provides an overview of my study s finding. I did a statistical analysis about the mean, median, standard deviation, the lower and upper mean, how males and females behave about the party, the income correlations, linear, nonlinear, monotonic and non monotonic relationship, null and alternative hypothesis and many more. Literature Review Voting is a standout amongst the most principal parts of political engagement. Numerous political researchers connect voting with the strength of the popularity based process and contend that declining voting rates might be symptomatic of a democratic deficit. Since political support can likewise impact public policy, others are worried that lower investment could bring about strategies that are not really illustrative of key voting demographics, similar to the individuals who tend to vote less. Therefore, the voter turnout rate is utilized as one pointer of political engagement. In Canada, researchers who look at voter turnout have found various ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Internal Family Systems Model Developed By Dr. Richard... Introduction Family Therapy is a diverse field, so I have decided to highlight The Internal Family Systems Model developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, who began formulating his theory when he was working as a family systems social worker. Former UW Whitewater professor, Don Norman is certified IFS therapist. Professor Norman and Dr. Schwartz ran a series of certification courses over the span of 18 months at UW Whitewater in the early 2000 s. My rational for my interest in this type of counseling is based on the success my family has had with this theory. IFS draws some of it s techniques from Freud s id, ego, and superego, and expands upon Jung s understanding of the complexity of the psyche. What is shared is the general understanding that... However, even if we might not be able to understand their suffering, we need to understand the history of the Holocaust. For years, Holocaust museums have relied on art, exhibits, and testimony to convey the story of the Holocaust. Yet as we progress further into the twenty first century, all the survivors will pass, and the means of conveying must change. • 13. Isabel Briggs Personality Personality tests serve as effective facilitators to learning about the features of an employee and potential benefits and drawbacks that he or she may encounter at a given position. Legitimacy of the social media which character are you? personality assessments is questionable, because they do not provide credentials for their authors, statistical tools implemented, and no connection can be traced between the types of questions and the results of the test. However, such tests as the one based on the Carl Jung s and Isabel Briggs Myers typology suggest a profound background for considering them valid. Therefore, I expected the results would be at least not greatly deviating from the ISTJ that I have learned about myself. Being rather determined about rights and wrongs, I was often told that I give the first impression of being aloof and perhaps somewhat cold (ISTJ, 2016). I agree with many of the characteristics given in personality tests, but some portion of the information in such assessments with explanation can be left to a chance. In this respect, I would not advise using personality tests for hiring purposes, because a person considered creative and easygoing, such as extraverted types, might appear too emotional and lacking the sense of hierarchy. Primarily, the test can be used to facilitate further development of the team member in a new place and evaluate the potential for assignment or promotion, using both self report personality inventories and projective tests to ensure conscious and unconscious aspects of personality are ... • 15. God s Speech On God Essay God gave us the bible so that we can understand rational truths with our mind and know what to believe. He teaches us how to Worship by painting a picture of the world through his eyes. He teaches us about ourselves, eternity, why we are here on Earth, and how to know right from wrong so we can Worship the greatness that is him. Godhas given us many commands like in Matthew 22: 37 39 to follow but we should take the teaching and understand the relationship that is presented between us and the Worship of him. God wants us to experience him and his world. By understanding God s invitation to know him better we learn not only more about him, but more about ourselves. We learn what sins to avoid, what parts of our lives need to be changed, how we can love others through him, and what are his plans and purpose for our lives thorough him are. To Worship becomes lessons on how to live a fulfilled life that we could never accomplish without him like in Psalm 19: 7 8; and Corinthians 5:17. Worship must be sincere and selfless. For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary . Psalms 96:5 6. This illustrates how we must not worship God because of the wealth He possesses. We must worship him because He is the Lord almighty. Worship is not sincere if it is done to only benefit your personal wellbeing. It is having a selfless desire deep within ones soul to give up everything to God, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now we are closer to mapping out the human genetic map due to advances in technology, and years and years of research. Perhaps the most influential and groundbreaking scientist, Gregor Mendel, he was responsible to provide a path to where genetics is now today with his experiments of garden peas. In lab, fruit flies were crossed to observe inheritance patterns in their offspring. The motivation for this was to further understand how genes and characteristics are inherited. To use fruit flies would be much more effective and easier because of a couple of reasons. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The F1?s were then observed and then crossed to form the F2 generation. Genetic Hypothesis The F1 generation hypothesis is that with the Line A, B cross, the F1 for our group will be expected to be heterozygous dominant (VvBb) at both loci. This is because of the cross of Line A, which was consisting of Males with the genotype of vvBB, and of line B that were females with the genotype VVbb. As far as the F2 generations go, the phenotypes are expected to have a 9:3:3:1 ratio. There should be 9 brown, normal fruit flies, and 3 of each the brown, vestigial fly and the white, long fly. Finally, there is expected to be only one white, vestigial fly that possesses homozygous recessive alleles in both loci. There is a chance that there may be different outcomes to the F2 generation due to the possibility that the Line A and the Line B generation were not all homozygous dominant in wing type for females and eye color in males. Such a genotype in the males, vvBb, and such in females, Vvbb, may lead to a different ratio in the F2 offspring. Methods In the lab section, we observed two vials containing the Line A and B species. In order for us to further examine the flies, we ?knocked out? the flies with a chemical anesthetic known as Fly Nap. Placing the wand covered in Fly Nap into the vial, we ?knocked out? the flies. We then spilled the flies onto a piece of paper and examined them under a light microscope. What were examined were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The man who killed them used a semi automatic rifle with a one hundred round magazine. An automatic weapon has no use in the United States because all sporting events, and activities with guns can be accomplished without automatic weapons. It is important because it limits the possibilities of events like the shooting at the Sandusky school in Ohio. Some would say they are a good for shooting range activity and most people don t commit crimes with them, getting rid of automatic weapons would get rid of the crimes committed with them overall. People die because of the actions taken with with assault rifles. Automatic weapons should be banned in the US because they are not needed for self defense, and they have almost no use in recreational activities. A shotgun can offer just as much or even more protection than an automatic weapon because birdshot, which is a type of shotgun shell, fires multiple little balls at once. A person would only need one of these shots because it has a good radius. Inside a home, it is all close quarters, which removes the use of a long range weapon like an automatic rifle. It is better to have a gun that shoots a radius of projectiles to protect yourself. James D. Torr. stated, A gun is used for protection in less than two percent of home invasion crimes (web). The other use of religious symbolic language is present in the lyric Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me . The lyric suggests that Mercury is referring to himself as being possessed by a demon and addressing the view of being considered sinful due to his sexual orientation, implying that God always knew that he was a homosexual. He is arguing to the audience that if he was created by God and born with the destiny of being homosexual, then his sexual orientation is willed by God. By citing radical changes that would have been necessary to prevent the occurrence, she makes it clear that it is very difficult for a woman to escape men. This experience has been quite overwhelming since it was one of the few moments that I felt the exhilaration and passion of giving and serving. The most rewarding part was sensing their eagerness to learn from real life experience, the hunger to discover more about what lays beyond the doors of the university campus. I decided to speak that day about the process of adapting to a new country and culture. Taking leaps of faith I believe that making major leaps in life is a school on its own, this obviously came from experience. Everything that I have done to date in my journey have been mainly driven by taking risks and stepping into the unknown. Jumping on that plane when I was a young teenager, moving to Australia and not ever knowing whether I will ever come back was all part of taking serious steps. This has become a natural phenomenon, changing places, experiencing a nomadic lifestyle. In doing so, I started picking up on a pattern and seeing a cycle forming every time I change countries and culture. So what is that pattern and how does it work? Following an intuitive sense I truly believe that coincidences are like an encrypted message or guide that eventually lead us into a certain path or veer us to a trajectory that we ought to follow in life. I have undergone few of those coincidences that I eventually got to learn how to decipher it in other words, I have learned to grow an intuitive sense that helped me navigate through a very colorful life journey most recent one, was moving to Sao Paulo Brazil. After getting that call on that Monday morning in Los Angeles California with an offer to relocate to Sao Paulo, I knew that my life will change soon. My educated intuition also assured me that this new journey will be needed in my life to get me to my next destination and adventure. Despite the fact that the text of these chapters are quite short, it has proved itself to be a fertile ground from which many of the central tenets of Christian doctrine have sprouted. This fruitful text has also spurred a variety of differing interpretations of the Creation and Fall. Augustine of Hippoand Lady Julian of Norwich are two theologians who interpreted Genesis 1 3 in vastly different ways. The aim of this paper is to make a thematically organized comparison of Julian of Norwich s interpretation (which is mostly apparent within her short parable on the Lord and the Servant, Revelations of Divine Love) with Augustine s influential interpretation of Genesis 1 3. While Augustine s interpretation is a classic understanding of the Fall that has had a lasting impact on Western society, in contrast Julian s nuanced understanding of the Fall has had little influence in most subsequent theological thought until relatively recently. Indeed, it wasn t until the 20th century that her work began to be broadly in circulation. Even in modern reflections on her theology, many scholars underappreciate or misunderstand her theology. The successes of mystery religions in the Roman world were greatly influenced by the Roman expansion, especially the conquest of Greece by the Roman Empire where their cultures and traditions were adopted and modified (Perry et al. 2013, p. 122). This was the foremost reason of the initial spread of mystery religions, especially the cult of Hellenised Isis, in Rome. In addition, the political trade involving grains and slaves also played a significant role in the extended reach of the Hellenised cult of Isis among the Romans (Bowden 2010, p. 161). According to Cumont, slaves were spreading their beliefs to the gods of their respective countries (1956, p. 24). It is therefore not surprising for mystery cults to enter and succeed in the Roman world. The mystery religion of Isis, for example, was considered to be the most successful mystery religion above all (Ferguson 1970, p. 106). This is due to the belief that Isis was ... [the] highest of the god ... (Apuleius Golden ass ex. 11.1). In addition, the practice of Roman religion could be seen as polytheistic. Hence, people tended to yearn for greater blessings from the gods and goddesses. In this case, Isis was considered to be an option. Moreover, Romans valued the different practises of their conquered states and even assimilated those practises into their own (Perry et al. 2013, p. 122). The conquests of numerous states, therefore, not only allowed Isis cults to succeed in Roman world but also provided Rome for its necessary resources. • 34. Essay On Railways In Canada A major part of Canadian history is about railways, they seemed to transform Canadian societies into something bigger and better. Before railways Canada had been faced with a problem in the winter which was the lack of transportation, railways seemed to transform Canada by providing jobs, illuminating violence, and creating international connections. The creation of the railways in Canada was naturally a big job because of this fact many jobs were created for various Canadians. People were always needed to create the path and do the hard labour that was involved, however, this did not pay well for the very physical work that was involved. Much more people were now being employed to construct the railways and drive the newly built trains around that had carried many goods. The railroad system had also decreased the amount of domestic violence that was being taken place in Canadian society. Before the railroad construction in Canada, many people who grew crops as farmers especially in bulk forms had a very difficult time getting their products to market especially in the winter. For an example, grain, if a farmer was not able to get their goods to the market to sell they would usually turn the grain into whiskey. This naturally led to an over the assumption of the drink making the farmer overly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The AncientGreeks discovered the very first natural magnet in the form of the lodestone, and Hippocrates, the father of medicine, noted it s healing powers (2). Unlike the United States, Japan, China, India, Austria, and Germany all are advanced in the field of magnetic therapy. (2). The United States does, though, use magnets in complex machines to help better understand the body and brain, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), which uses magnetic fields to formulate 3 D images of the brain, and electroncephalogreaphs (EEG), which look at the electrical activity of the brain. The explanation: All cells that are alive are electrical; that is the outside of a cell has a negative charge and the inside, a positive charge. This combination of opposite charges allows the cell to function normally. When a part of the body becomes damaged, such as the body s tissue, the damaged area responds with inflammation, which is caused by a lack of blood flow. This lack of blood flow blocks the body s natural ability to provide oxygen and nutrients to the injured cells. Thus, the polarity of the cells gets out of whack. The role biomagnets play in aiding damaged tissue is based upon the belief that magnets can realign the cell s polarity, which helps the cell get back to functioning normally. They claim that an increase in the diameter of the body s blood vessels is also an affect of using a biomagnet on damaged tissue. This enlargement allows more blood, carrying rich nutrients and oxygen, to flow to the injured area and leave with tissue s toxins. (1) They also say that the magnet s energy has been described as a catalyst, which speeds up biological processes and enables the body to heal itself and ease pain. This catalyst stimulates blood circulation, allowing more oxygen to be distributed all over the body. (3) THE CLAIMS MADE ABOUT THE EFFECTIVENESS OF BIOMAGNETIC THERAPY AND ITS EVIDENCE No ... • 40. Positive And Negative Effects Of Thermoregulation Thermoregulation is the control of the body s temperature. Normal body core temperature is typically around 37 В°C, staying within a functional range of 35 to 41 В°C. (PГ©riard et al., 2015) Temperature during exercise can have both positive and negative effects and therefore it is important to manage it through training and heat acclimatisation. It has been found that power output and speed of cyclists decreased during hot conditions. (Racinais, S et al., 2015) However, due to heat acclimatisation the decrements were progressively increased, therefore suggesting that heat acclimatisation can be used successfully. (PГ©riard et al., 2015). Similarly, it can be found that exercise increases body temperatureand the resulting heat stored becomes a factor inhibiting exercise performance. Loss of heat by evaporation can eventually hinder performance. Therefore, it is again found that acclimatization improves performance by affecting heat loss mechanisms. (Reilly et al, 2006). A study was carried out by Webborn et al., (2005) to test weather precooling /cooling in intermittent sprint exercises in a hot environment would reduce a rise in core temperature. 8 male participants took part in 4 heat stress trials with the independent variables being no cooling control, 20 min of precooling and cooling during exercise. • 44. The Feminist Movement The feminist movement has been developing its method of solving social and economical issues in three consecutive waves, from the end of the 19th century till present. Each stage had its benchmarks and significant shifts in the treatment of women from viewing them as objects and commodity to perceiving them as citizens in full rights and creators of their own destiny. Gradually, together with the growth of self consciousness and demand for more rights and freedoms, suffragists and later feminists managed to secure more legal precedents and norms manifesting and consolidating their achievements, including the right to vote, to own property and participate in public life. As the number of these precedents accumulated and their visibility in the legal field became clearer, as their practical application turned from the exception to a norm, then the issue raised: is the system which needs such significant amendments viable and whose interest does it represent? As one of the most prominent spokespersons on the issue, Catharine A. In Chapter two, Unbuilding Our Home, Weisman effectively informs his readers of the total control that nature has on our society by describing the immediate effect it takes on our own homes. He forces the readers to recognize that we coexist with nature yet nature has the upper hand on man made objects. Weisman achieves this by targeting the readers emotions through description and personification and by providing insight that appeals to the reader s intellect of the future. In Chapter 2, Weisman walks us meticulously through the steps that lead inevitably to the complete destructionof almost every single part of our houses. The first and last enemy is water. Mold begins to grow on wet wood; under the mold, threadlike filaments called hyphae are secreting enzymes that break cellulose and lignin down into fungi food. (page 16) The roof falls in. • 47. Cosmopolitanism In Things Fall Apart And Kwame Anthony Achebe Throughout life, one is faced with choices between individualism and communitarianism. Such choices are reflected in many works of literature, including Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart and Kwame Anthony Appiah s Cosmopolitanism. The current report examines the first reading in the context of the second. Achebe s story is about the clash between tradition and change in an African village; Appiah s work advocates a unified perspective from which we are seen to be connected through basic humanism. The basic assumption of this author is that when one applies Appiah s idea of obligation to others in Cosmopolitanismto the character of Okonkwo in Achebe s Things Fall Apart(who is also the book s protagonist), the character changes in terms of how his fate or destiny is conveyed, as well as other aspects of his development. Although Okonkwo is a character of complexity, depth, and three dimensionality, one of his chief features is his resistance to change. This resistance is personal in nature, and Okonkwo then tries to impose this personal resistance on a greater community, rather than listening to it. By emphasizing the failure of the personal over the communal in Okonkwo s actions, Achebe draws sharp parallels between people helping each other and people driving each other towards entropy. According to Appiah, cosmopolitanism can be defined according to several of its divisions: One is the idea that we have obligations to others, obligations that stretch ... Studies in the 1990s have attempted to resurrect these genes but have been largely unable to do so. It is thought that these genes were functional in pre human species such as Australopithicenes and Homo Habilis etc. Things such as exceptional hairiness in Neanderthals is thought to be an example of genes that were functional and advantageous during their history but are not needed or functional anymore. B. Autism and autistic savants a. www.autism.com/understanding savants Autistic savant is one of the most interesting cognitive phenomenon in psychology. Autistic savants used to be called idiot savants which means unlearned skill (from the French idiot = unlearned). 10% of the autistic population have savant abilities compared to only 1% in the non autistic population. As many as 33% of autistic people have exceptional abilities. This certainly supports the idea in the text that autistic people might hold the key for unlocking super skills in the rest of the human population. b. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Douglas Fir Dominance Essay Out of the three parameters we collected, dominance is the one that tells us which of the species is currently the most influential in the community. The species with the highest relative dominance in area one was the Douglas Fir (90.6%). This data tells you that the Douglas Fir is very versatile in the way it helps the community. The Douglas Fir siphons all the nutrients to itself and provides shelter, shade, and food for animals. It also forms mycorrhizal relationships, which helps nearby vegetation grow. In Area 2, the species with the highest dominance value was the Oregon White Oak (70.6%). Oregon White Oaks provide shelter, housing, and food to various animals as well. Diversity of birds is often higher in Oregon White Oaks than in an adjacent coniferous forest. Using the dominance data, it tells us that at this moment in time Oregon Oak and ... This only shows only two species allocating in the area that siphons resources. If one declines, the other dominants , this does not show as much diversity in that aspect. In area 2, there was spread of dominance, the species that had the greater dominance was oregon white following that was the black oak, then the live oak then the bay. This shows more diversity than area 1. Light is also plays a huge role , in area 1 the slope was facing north . In area 2, the slope was facing southwest which makes a huge difference in the amount of light received by the plants in the areas. The slope that was facing north generally gets less light in comparison to the southwest since it gets the bulk of the sun. This alone tells that in area 2 there is much more light available for plants to uptake and do photosynthesis than in area 1. This further proves that in area 2 is able to hold more species which supports that it has more diversity than in area ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
