My Life Hearing The Same Clich
My father always told me you learn more from the mistakes you make and answers you miss
than from all the studying in the world. As a life long academic, surgeon and leader of the
community I had taken those words to heart although felt they were pointless and meaningless.
As an emergency physician and master of the seas, it was my job to either know everything or
handle everything regardless of the chaos being thrown my way. I went about my life hearing
the same clich? statement from college professors, physician instructors, and throughout
thousands of classes teaching young boat captains. I even caught myself saying it on several
occasions. My oldest brother is 7 years my senior but started a family far younger than myself
and earned his success through a less structured and perhaps more stressful route. His life was
not a self induced addiction to chaos, adrenaline, and stress, but more one forced upon him in
every non traditional way one could imagine. It was he who brought to my attention that I have
really never learned anything because all my challenges have been preceded by the education
and protected experiences to deal with whatever developed. I was 40 when he first said those
words to me and heard the repeated echoes during countless family visits. Also repeated by three
brothers, two sisters, and one ex wife. The words never really developed any meaning. I continued
my life, seeing patients, driving boats, raising my children and enjoying my

Analysis Of Jane Campion s The Piano
Applying a postcolonial perspective, write an analysis of the ideas and values in Jane Campion s
The Piano
Looking at Jane Campion s The Piano through a post colonial perspective ideas of isolation,
civilised vs the uncivilised, and authority and the power as a result of European settlement in New
Zealand can be examined.
Jane Campion s The Piano explores cultural differences between the native Maori people of New
Zealand and the newly arrived Europeans. The first aspect that must be taken into account in this
analysis is the physical setting. The film is set within the lush bush of New Zealand just off the
coast in the 1850s. The setting itself is intriguing, and very intense in its complexity and density,
but yet provides an air of isolation and confinement for the newly arrived Ada. Upon arrival to the
beach their shelter for the night, is set against the backdrop of a hostile and empty coast. Ada s
surroundings act as a canvas to display the displacement of European settlement.
The Maoris often complement the natural environment, working with it in their movements, rather
than against as do Ada and Flora. They are shown struggling through the mud and the new terrain in
situations where the Maoris fit in seamlessly with their surroundings. Their property is also
immediately surrounded my tree trunks, rather than the rich greenery seen elsewhere in the film,
symbolic of the Europeans destructions as a result of colonisation.
Campion utilises costuming to display the authority and power of the European culture, whilst also
criticising its limitations. The natural setting is often juxtaposed with the Europeans dark, and
structured clothing, which is ultimately entirely impractical. Ada wears her exuberant, yet dull
Victorian clothing, whilst Stewarts clothing is often almost too small, confining and restricting. Her
costuming immediately draws the intrigue of the locals, as does her fair skin, isolating her further.
This use of costuming highlights how out of place the Europeans are, but also their ignorance of
the realities of their environment. This is compared with the Maori s more natural, relaxed clothing
that blends with the naturalistic environment. However, there are often aspects of European

How To Build A Seatbelt
Seatbelts contain two main parts, a lap belt and a shoulder belt and are secured to the frame of
the car. They have been proven to reduce and prevent injury in the event of a car accident by
keeping the passenger in their seat. In addition, seatbelts can extend and retract however, in the
likelihood of a collision, the belt tightens up to hold the passenger in place so that they do not go
through the windshield when the car goes to a sudden stop.
Newton s first law of motion states that an object will remain at rest, or will continue with a
constant velocity, unless an unbalanced force acts upon it. When a car comes to an abrupt stop, the
passenger moves forward and stays in this motion until an unbalanced force acts upon it. The

Predicting The Future Of The Election Before The Voting...
Predicting the Future Life is full of surprises but there are three things that ultimately determine
how you live your life: past, present, and the future. We live our daily lives on those three
fundamentals. For example, if it was cold yesterday and it is still cold now, it will probably still
be cold tomorrow. This is the same way for Presidential elections. If a candidate were to maintain
their strong lead from the beginning of the election, unless something were to happen, it is expected
that they will continue that lead in the futureas well. So if meteorologists are able to reliably predict
the outcome of the weather, can Psephologists reliably predict the outcome of the presidential
election before the voting deadline of November 8th? There are always people who try to stay
ahead and predict the future. The very first official weather forecast was made in the 1860s and
the first official gallup poll for presidential election has dated back to Roosevelt vs. Landon in 1936
(The Birth of the Weather Forecast). Since then, both weather forecast and presidential prediction
has both been reliable but not perfect. From 1936 to 2012, they have predicted 16 out of 20
correctly, or with an 80% accuracy. Most of the incorrect predictions are only off by 1% margin
besides the year 1948 where the margin of error was a whopping 5% (Election Polls Accuracy
Record in Presidential Elections). This was a tragic year for the pollsters. 1948 presidential election

The Legal System And Ethics
The Legal System and Ethics Mid Term Exam Andrian Lord Intro What is a world without laws?
Would that be the same as asking what is an apple without its color? Or perhaps the simple
question of why does one tie his or her shoes the way they do? Even better, why is it illegal to
walk nude amongst peers in the open? Maybe because the law says so. But what is law. Is it this
natural thing or is it man made? Do we follow them on our own accord or do so because the law
says so? All of these questions are rooted in one s ability to effectively distinguish and interpret
positive law and natural law. Before one can answer any of those questions we must go back in time
before the development of positive and natural law in order to interpret its meaning and show how
intellectual thought of the past, and even in today s time was mirrored after these laws. Origin
/Development The Classicalist approach marks the earliest stage for the debate about the
development of natural an positive law. For starters classicalism takes natural and positive law to a
new intellectual level through the use of two fundamental theories, Teleology and Intellectualism.
Through Teleology, early philosophers asserts that human activity and interaction are inherently
purposeful, or have purposeful end that exceeds the extent of reality to a place of Eudaimonia .
Intellectualism assumes that human actions are a result of rules that transcended the original state
of man s mind into this new state of mind

The Jesuits and Marianist have many similarities and differences among their communities. In the
Marianist community they too are very much involved in wide variety of people such as,

the Marinist. The Marianist community consisted of Priest and Brothers which eventually spread

the Marianist is to seek the gospel through service and the lives of others. With the guidance of
Mary, the Marianist work together to find faith to help serve others for their dignity, liberation,

Marianist put the presence of Jesus among not only themselves but for others. Both Jesuits and
Marianists value living, praying, and supporting the community which strengthens the world,

Ethiopi A Of Ecological And Climatic Condition Essay
Ethiopia is endowed with variety of ecological and climatic condition. It is also home to some of
the most diverse flora and fauna in Africa. This makes the country to lead in honey and beeswax
production in Africa though major of its production is traditional (Allafrica.com, 2009).
Honey value chain played a significant role in the economy of the country by engaging around two
million farm households. It also engaged different actors participated in different value adding
activities which enables them to higher the price of the product and increases the bargaining power.
Finance service/Credit is an important instrument to improve the welfare of the poor through
enhancing their productive capacity (Okurut et al., 2004) and it also motivates them to participate
in further value adding activities rather than directly sell it in order to meet their current financial
need. Though it is crucial to small scale producers to participate in value adding activities, in
Ethiopia its supply for improved apiculture is limited (ILRI, 2011).
In a given value chain, loans and credits may flow by either when the financing institution finance
one end of the value chain, which then channels funds to the other links or they can finance value

Catharsis In Boxing The Compass
In Boxing the Compass, a third person narrator follows a woman waking into a day, the
anniversary of her mother s death. This woman rises from her bed, dresses, leaves her
apartment, walks into a bakery to buy bread, buys bread, returns to her apartment, heats water,
writes, undresses, takes a bath, redresses and leaves her apartment to catch a train to ride toward
a graveyard to visit her mother s grave. A seemingly simple plot develops rapidly into a complex
labyrinth of the woman s memories, her apprehension of the earth s rising temperatures and sea
levels, her ideology regarding time, in relation to the action of boxing a compass. Throughout
Boxing the Compass, the daughter s grief over losing her mother acts as a reflection and allows the
audience to mourn the holocene s passing due to drastic climate change: a change that enabled
human beings to thrive, but will eventually, be their demise as well. Florian is able to accomplish
this by applying Aristotle s notions of catharsisto Boxing the Compass. According to the
Aristotelian notions of catharsis, a successful tragedywould need to impart the feelings of grief and
fear onto the audience. Therefore, the Aristotelian notions and application of catharsis are what
enable Florian to develop her central theme of ephemerality through the use of an elaborate analogy
of mourning the death of one s mother to mourning the holocene.
In Poetics, the term catharsis was originally used as a metaphor by Aristotle to explain the

Reflection On Family Relationship
In this skills session my client brought her relationship with her mother and her feelings about
that relationship. She brought feelings of sadness hurt upset and grief . She states early in the
session I m constantly searching for some sort of love and affection from her . She describes
feeling neglected and disregarded by her mother and the rest of her family. She admits that these
feelings have stretched into the rest of her life and have left her feeling unworthy not good
enough and like she doesn t matter . She states that she feels not worthy of affection or care or
regard . My client was questioning why her mother behaves the way she does towards her. She
finds her mother s behaviour difficult to understand and feels she doesn t understand where it s
coming from . During the session my client describes her mother s behaviour in a particular
scenario when she felt her mother behaved differently when she had an audience to play to. My
client described feeling ganged up on by her mother, who was backed up by her visiting
relatives. It is clear my client wants a relationship with her mother and states this clearly when
asked. She is seeking answers what is going on , what is going on with this attitude? My client
states that she has suffered with feelings of being unworthy for most of her life and suffered a
nervous breakdown two years ago after which she sought help from counselling and her GP.
Considering what I have outlined above it would appear that my client s feelings of being
unworthy and of not being good enough arise from feeling that she doesn t matter to, or is
disregarded by her mother and other family members. It would appear that my client s evaluation
of her self worth or self esteem has been affected by her close family relationships. Carl Rogers
(1959, p200 p223) describes the development of the self concept (how an individual perceives
themselves) and how this self concept is heavily influenced by the conditions of self worth set out
by others. Conditions of worth are constraints or preconditions, which an individual perceives are
placed upon them by individuals external to them. The individual believes that these preconditions

Economic Impact Analysis on a High Speed Railway System for Central Florida
Introduction
High speed railway (HRL) systems have been used primarily over in such countries as Japan since
1964 and France since 1984. Recently the United States has generated interest in the high speed
railway as well. The proposed system would stretch from Miami through Orlando and end in the St.
Petersburg/Tampa area. With bullet trains operating at top speeds of 220 miles an hour, the express
travel time from downtown Miami to Orlando would take approximately 2.5 hours. Intercity
travelers (trips between metropolitan regions) along with longer distance commuters would ... Show

Analysis of Maxine Hong Kingston No Name Woman
Chapter I
Introduction
1.1. Background of study
Adultery defined as a sex relationship between a married woman and a man other than her
spouse or a sex relationship that usually happened also between unmarried couples in their
relationship. It is actually the same as stated in Oxford Advanced Learner s Dictionary; adultery
is a sex between a married person and someone who is not their husband or wife (18). Indeed,
Adultery sometimes becomes something crucial in our society. As an addition, in certain societies
or cultures, it considered as an illegal relationship or we can say forbidden against norm or belief
in societies or cultures itself. Like what the writers have discussed above, that adultery has a strong

Ego Prohibits Self-Awareness In Annie Baker s Body Awareness
Ego prohibits self awareness. In the world today many people are nervous of not fitting in with
society so they create a big ego to hide behind their flaws. This kind of growth is evident in
Annie Baker s first play Body Awareness by one of the main characters, Jared. Jared is a twenty
one year old, slightly autistic boy who still lives with his gay parents, Joyce and Phyllis. Joyce
and Phyllis have been telling Jared he has Aspergers ever since he was five years old.
Throughout the play Jared shows many signs of Aspergers, but he will not admit it to himself or
allow his parents accusations to be correct. Though Jared is conscious of these signs, he is
constantly coming up with excuses in order to seem perfect for he believes this will make his
parents happy. In the dramatic comedy Body Awareness written by Annie Baker, the author
displays that self confidence prevents one s self consciousness. Ego can prohibit the ideaof one s
true self. All Joyce, Jared s mother wants is for Jared to be like any normal kid, but he is not.
This upsets her, and she constantly tries to bring up the fact that he may have Asperger s and
proceeds to explain why. Jared and Joyce, are having a civilized conversation while cooking
dinner when Joyce brings up a psychologist and Jared immediately begins to get angry and yells,
I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that I don t have it... I AM NOT FUCKING RETARDED
(Baker 12). Jared s anger towards Asperger s and his mother comes out, and he

The Impact Of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence I have read Patrick Marshall s Artificial Intelligence: Can smart machines
replace humans? The article discusses the effect of AI on employment, war and human control,
and whether or not it can simulate human intelligence. It gives a background on how AI started,
how the military uses it, and how it is used in everyday civilian life. Two significant points are
stated by the author. First, AI has yet to be imbued with accurate human like nature. Second, the
military has started using AI and robotics to help reduce the number of human soldiers lost in
wars. I believe AI has made great strides since it was created and development should continue to
advance the state of the net. Although, there are consequences to every good idea. The first
signs of AI appeared in the 50s after Konrad Zuse invented the first programmable computer. At a
conference in Dartmouth, scientists decided to research how they could bring every type of
learning into an advanced state so that a machine can emulate it. The first robotic produced was
a mobile robot called Shakey. When a recession hit in the 70s, funding for AI projects was cut
short. In the 90s AI research skyrocketed as new software was developed and AI became smarter.
Despite the military use of AI, there are many around us in everyday life. Banks use AI to help
find fraud credit cards. Security companies are using it to identify facial features and spot criminal
activity. Several car companies now use AI on

Myosin Light Chain
All organisms, from humans to simple bacteria, have a necessity to move in order to adapt to
changes in their external or internal environment, navigate towards food, and avoid dangers. Even
cells are teeming with motion as they reorganize organelles, nucleic acids, and proteins. At the
molecular level, two types of elements assist in the control movements of the cell and the organism
as a whole: molecular motor proteins and intricate complexes of proteinfilaments that make up the
cytoskeleton of the cell (Vale and Milligan, 2000). Myosinis a family of motor protein that act as
enzymes in the hydrolysis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to form adenosine diphosphate (ADP)
and inorganic phosphate (Pi), The energy released by this reaction to drive the movement of
molecules and contraction of muscle fibers (Grigorenko et al., 2007). A remarkable part of
evolution is that the same mechanisms that control of contraction of muscles by myosin, are also

Cyber Bullying And Its Effect On Today s Youth
Studies have shown that cyberbullying incidents have quadrupled in the last five years.
Cyber bullying has become a huge issue recently. It is despairing to turn on the news
everyday and watching reports going on about bullying and the number of suicides such
has lead to. Love is Louder has been a phrase commonly used by celebrities to send out
a message not only to fans but to humanity proving that bullying is not righteous and should
not be tolerated. The more the communication through technology expands and widens, the
more bullies torture their innocent victims. The fact is that technology is somehow not being
used for the precise matter, so we need to figure out a way to put an end to cyber bullies
injudicious actions. Cyberbullying is becoming a radical obstacle and we all need to do our
parts to building a mindful perspective of what can be done to stop cyber bullies ones in for all.
Cyber bullies will continue to be a threat to today s youth until we take preventative
measures against them. Before terminating cyberbullying we must first perceive why and
how a cyber bully works. After researching and analyzing explanatory articles on such topic,
this research paper aims to inform and answer the following questions: What a cyber bully Nunez 2

The Lesbian Experience Of The Early And Mid Twentieth...
The Lesbian experience in the early and mid twentieth century seemed to be more obscured than
the queer male subcultures. For many lesbians of the early and mid twentieth century, to live as
a queer woman and to still maintain social respectability meant that lesbians often had to live in
the closet. I believe that that lesbian subculture was unknown and ignored because it was
impossible for women to claim their identity as a lesbian; they were frequently viewed from the
outside as sick, confused, or sinful and no one would want to be considered one. Being a lesbian
woman in the streets was unsafe for them, as they were vulnerable to be followed and harassed
by men. Finally, in this era working class women were working more and had to keep silent
about their sexual identity because it could cost losing their jobs. Although, by the 1920 s there
were already a few established communities of women who identified themselves as lesbians, in
places such as Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and New York. Few women, regardless of their
sexual experiences, became part of this newly lesbian community. For instance, Faderman
mentioned, that in small towns, heterosexuals seemed oblivious that homosexuals even existed;
therefore, a woman that was not yet married was known as a spinster, who is an unmarried
woman, typically an older woman beyond the usual age for marriage (63). Lesbians living in larger
cities found an existence that extended beyond the home and into the bar. These spaces

The Theme Of Fences, By August Wilson
Everyone has unique talents and interests. It is because of these interests that people develop their
own dreams and aspirations for their future. These dreams may be about career or finding happiness
or even about family. There are many hurdles in the path to achieving dreams. In the play, Fences,
August Wilson centralizes many conflicts in the plot around each individual character s pursuit of
their dreams and aspirations and the difficulties they face. Although there are many different themes
in this play, the main theme concerns the pain and suffering that individuals go through to get a
chance to fulfill their dreams and how the characters cope with the failure to achieve their dreams

He first talks about his opinion on the discrimination in sports when Rose tells him about his

of Troy s failure in sports, his pain reflected on his son who also had a similar dream. He doesn t

Essay on A Summary of Bram Stoker s Dracula
A Summary of Bram Stoker s Dracula
Dracula is an epistolary novel, meaning that is composed from letters, journal and diary entries,
telegrams, and newspaper clippings.
Jonathan Harker, Mina Murray (later Mina Harker), and Dr. Seward write the largest contributions
to the novel although the writings of Lucy
Westenra and Abraham Van Helsingconstitute some key parts of the book. The novel has a slightly
journalistic feel, as it is a harrowing account supposedly written by the people who witnessed the
book s events. A young Englishman named Jonathan Harker travels through Transylvania on a
business trip. He is there to aid Count Dracula, a Transylvanian nobleman, in buying an English
estate. His journey into the remote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eerie things happen one night, Mina finds her unconscious in the cemetery, as a figure with
glowing eyes bends over her. The figure disappears as Mina comes closer, but night after night
strange events continue and Lucy grows thinner and paler with each passing day.
Word comes from Budapest that Jonathan has been found, sick with brain fever. He can remember
nothing of his travels in Transylvania. Mina goes to nurse him back to health and to help him make
the trip back to
England. When she arrives, they marry immediately. He gives her his diary but is afraid to read
it; she seals the diary and promises that she will never read it unless it is for his sake.
Back in England, Lucy has returned to her home in London. Arthur, fearful for her health, asks
Dr. Seward to try to figure out what is wrong with her. Seward is baffled by her illness, and calls
in the aid of his old mentor, the brilliant Professor Abraham Van Helsing. Van
Helsing seems to know from the beginning what he might be up against.
He tries to use various charms, as well as constant blood transfusions, to keep Lucy alive. Again
and again, his attempts are thwarted by a mixture of Dracula s cunning and bad luck. Lucy s
mother is killed by a heart attack during one of Dracula s more dramatic plots to get to Lucy, and
Lucy dies a few days later. Arthur s father dies at about this time. Van

sympathetic nervous system and the adrenal cortical system. The sympathetic nervous system uses
nerve pathways to initiate reactions in the body, and the adrenal cortical system uses the
bloodstream. The combined effects of these two systems are the fight or flight response. When the
hypothalamus tells the sympathetic nervous system to kick into gear, the overall effect is that the
body speeds up, tenses up and becomes generally very alert. If there s a burglar at the door, you re
going to have to take action fast. The sympathetic nervous system sends out impulses to glands and

The Goal Of The Anger Principle
The goal of the Anger Principle is to rationalize why an individual is angry and calculate the
extent of their anger within a situation. When trying to decipher whether someone is angry, I
look for a few key indicators, such as antisocial body language and aggressive verbal language.
Antisocial body language includes pacing, rubbing your head, cupping your fist with your other
hand, shaking or trembling, clenching your jaws or grinding your teeth, and sweating, especially
of the palms. Aggressive verbal language includes getting sarcastic, losing your sense of humor,
raising your voice, speaking abrasively, and beginning to yell, scream, or cry. Many of these signs
were present in my various cases. Incidentally, case one is interesting because feelings of anger
weren t associated with this decision until 3 years later. Now, whenever I am reminded, I begin
to clench my jaw and rub my head. Also, I m not very likely to speak when I am angry, but when
I do I am sarcastic and without a sense of humor, i.e., I ll say I was such a smart kid, of course,
skateboards can take you everywhere. If anyone else attempts to make a joke about my situation, I
d blankly stared at them, conveying my anger by rejecting humor about the situation. As for case
five, my friend is a big fan of the former vice present, Joe Biden. So, when she told me about how
she felt after receiving her grade, she reported that she was sweating, shaking, and cupping her first
with her other hand. Even as she

The Three Major Characteristics Of The Rice Riots
Rice riots
Rice riots happened in 1918 when the Japanese government was involved in the Siberia
intervention and the economy of Japan was in war prosperity that the export and industrial
development was growing rapidly. To maintain the competitiveness of the Japanese exports and
industrial product, the government set the purchasing price of the rice merchant from the
peasants, which was much lower than the market price to lower the industrial production cost of
the raw materials. As a result, the living standard of the general peasants and workers in the city
had even worsened under the prosperity despite the huge growth in industry and the economy. In
May 1917, the rice market price starts to rise rapidly by 3 yen per koku and the price reached ...

The rice riot indicated the social structure at that time that the peasants and low level workers were
highly exploited and could not even benefit from the development of the economy. This riot meant
the strong dissent to the oppression from the government and the industrial Zaibatsu from the
peasants to normal Japanese people. To the government, this riot indicated that this economic
development style could not be sustainable, thus entered a more democratic period 1920s. The riot
had led to three major changes to the society. Firstly, the salary of the citizens and the purchasing
price of the peasants were raised a little while the government tried to lower the market price by
increasing imports from its colony Korea and Taiwan as well as other rice producing countries
(Morgan 2011, 121 122), which slightly improved the living standard of the poor. The more
important impact is in the government that Hara Takashi, who was the first untitled premier. This
indicated the end of the Kazoku control of the government and the rise of the party politics.
Since the cabinet of Hara, the premier and cabinet members could be untitled, which indicated a
great progress for the Japanese democracy development. The rice riot also caused the strong
opposition to the left wing ideology in the Japanese government. After the riot, most of the leaders
in the movement were arrested and put to the death sentence. To avoid such a riot happening
again, the government had a stronger opposition to the left wing movement and strikes (Morgan
2011, 125 134). For instance, even in 1925, a more democratic period, to avoid the spread the
communism in Japan and other left wing ideology, the diet had passed Public Security
Preservation Laws to delegalize the left wing parties. The strong attitude against the left wing
ideology were because of the serious rice

Herbal and Alternative Remedies
HERBAL AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICATIONS
Herbal remedies come from plants. If possible, choose a remedy which has been standardized, i.e.
the contents are approximately the same in each bottle or tablet you buy. Plant remedies are not
always safer than ordinary medicines. All of them can have side effects and interact with other
medicines. Supplements include vitamins, minerals and animal and plant products, such as cod
liver oil. They can also have side effects and interact with other medicines. Some people take
supplements, like vitamin C in high doses, but this can damage the liver or kidneys. Many
supplements have a recommended daily intake (RDI), or allowance (RDA). Do not go beyond this
dose without talking to an experienced health professional.
CAMs and mental health problems:
Many CAMs have been used for mental health problems, but there is little good evidence to
support their use. Some of these treatments may work, but most have not been thoroughly tested.
The studies have often been too small to give a clear answer. We know most about the treatments
for depression, anxiety and insomnia. Despite the lack of evidence, people all over the world take
CAMs, and many report that they find them helpful. Ultimately, whether taking CAMs is a good
idea depends on individual circumstances. We recommend that you talk to your GP or mental health
team first.
If you are considering taking CAMs, you should seek specialist advice if:

the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to
give you hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV). This means that no matter what I do as long
as I am in accordance with God s will, everything will turn out for the best in the end. God has
promised to give me hope and a future and to bless my life. For we are God s handiwork, created in
Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do, Ephesians 2:10 (NIV).
With this knowledge I know that God has created me exactly the way I should be and that he has
given me talents and skills enough to do all he asks of me to do. I was created in God s image,
created with God s character of love, mercy, grace and righteousness. According to
AllAboutWorldviews.com, Christians believe God has revealed Himself to people in a general way
through creation and in a special (personal) way evidenced by His divine words and acts contained
in the Bible and especially in the person of Jesus Christ (2002, p.1). Through the Bible I can see

Colligative Properties

Principles of Chemistry 2
Experiment 1
02/02/2015
Abstract:
Several experiments were performed to observe the colligative properties. This includes the
freezing point depression, and osmotic pressure. Two ice baths were made, one with pure water,
the other with salt water. The lowest temperature was then record for each bath and compared.
The salt water had a lower freezing point than the pure water by 2 degrees which supports the
hypothesis that solutions have a lower freezing point than pure water. The second property
observed was osmosis pressure. This experiment used a 6 inch piece of dialysis tubing that was
filled 2/3 full with light Karo syrup and tied off. Then it was completely submerged ... Show more

The dialysis bag is comparable to a cell membrane. It allows water and small particles through,
while stopping large particles from passing through. It is different from a cell membrane because a
cell membrane uses many processes to transport materials across the membrane including active
transport and passive transport, while the dialysis tubing simply uses diffusion.
B. The Karo syrup is hypertonic to the egg. Th concentration is higher outside the egg than inside,
so the water moves outside of the egg.
C. N=MRT
8.34 mmHg osmotic pressure
23.6 degrees Celcius
0.5 L of solution containing 0.302 grams of antibiotic
8.34 mmHg * 1atm/760 mmHG = 0.01097 atm
0.01097 atm = M (0.0821) (23.6 +273 = 296.6 K)
M = 0.01097atm/(0.0821*296.6K)
M = 0.01097atm/24.35086
M = 4.505X 10 4 moles of antibiotic
Moles = molarity X Volume
(4.505 X 10 4 moles/L) X (0.5 L) = 2.2525 X 10 4 moles
0.302g/2.2525 X 10 4 moles = 1340g/mole
Results/Analysis:
The freezing point of the solution was 5 degrees, while the freezing point of the pure water was
3 degrees, This is a 2 degrees difference in the freezing points. This supports the hypothesis that
solutions have lower freezing points. The freezing point depression is a colligative property used
to calculate the molar mass of a substance. However, It was not possible to calculate the molar
mass of our substance because with a home lab kit there was no weighing involved. We were still
able to record and determine the freezing point of both

The Apple Story
The Apple Story
Prepared By: Brian Klochko
Prepared For: Dr. Dov Longu
Submission Date: Monday, February 24th 2014 Once solely regarded as a common handheld
fruit, two unlikely visionaries changed the meaning of Apple forever. The corporate conglomerate
that now manufactures and sells various electronic products such as computers, cell phones,
tablets, music players, and computer accessories was once merely an idea two college dropouts
had dreamt in their own garage. Apple stock currently trades at $544.45 (as of February 14th,
2014), with a net worth estimated at over $500 billion (Forbes) 4. Who started the company, how

He was right. Although he may have been right, Jobs was fired from Apple in 1985. Without Steve
Jobs, Apple started to trend down, and he rejoined the company in 1997 with a vision to bring it
back to the top. He released a think different ad campaign, featuring pictures of Albert Einstein,
John Lennon, and Thomas Edison that had one goal, to let people know the company still had a
pulse. As copywriter Rob Siltanen said, it got the Apple faithful stirred up, it got the fence sitters
back on board, and it got an audience that was lukewarm on Apple to think about the brand in a
whole new way. (CBC)4 Jobs had many visions and marketing schemes, but his two main
philosophies are summarized by the following: to follow the principles of human engineering to
build friendly products whose simplicity and ease of use make them natural extensions of their
owners, and to create a worldwide customer service organization to service retailers, distributors,
and technical support centers, unmatched in the industry. (Elliot)1 Of course Jobs had his
shortcomings, as already mentioned, but his prowess for marketing and visions for building
companies could not be denied. Once he had an idea in mind, he would not stop until it was done,
meanwhile pushing not only his employees/co workers but also himself to ensure the best product
was put forth for the consumer. His revolutionary Super Bowl ad broke the plain of commercial
advertising through broadcasting, which is obviously still

The Ethical Theories Of The Ethics
There are eight major ethical theories the ones that were focused on in the video were
deontological and utilitarian. The deontological theory is the sense of obligation, that someone
feels that it their morally duty to do the right thing. The utilitarian theory is that people act and
behave so that they will produce happiness for the greatest number of people. These two
different ethical theories are ways that people behave and think is morally correct. In the video
the professor talked about the two ethical theories and how the choices that people make can
connect to these two theories. The professor said that the utilitarian theory mantra is that good
makes something right, and that these people are results oriented. The deontological theory
mantra is that right makes something good, and that these people are motive oriented. The big
question is what is the morally right thing to do? consequential moral reasoning says that
someone should not kill an innocent person to say others. I think people should always try to
avoid hurting other people, but if you could save five people and only one person die, would you
do it? For example in the first situation where there are two ways the train can go with workers on
it, with no brakes, and it can either hit five workers and save the one, or save five, and kill one
worker by going down another track. The train driver has to decide quickly what to choose. Either
way someone has to die, should it be five people or one? I

Essay on Training for Race Day
Race Day has finally arrived, or should I say Match Day , in this case. After several months of

Finally, only 5 minutes till race time and everyone begins to shuffle forward. The gun is fired.
At first the pace is slow and steady, but that s OK. After all, 26.2 miles is a long way; no need to

Western Imperialism and Modern East Asia Essay example
Western imperialism in East Asia caused many tribulations for China, Japan, and Korea but also
helped them to become contemporary nations. The East Asian countries were tremendously
affected by unequal treaties, extraterritoriality, and above all, technology. Great Britain encroached
upon China their greed for open trade with the Chinese empire resulting in the deterioration of the
Chinese culture, which led to the emergence of a modernized civilization. Japan was co subjugated
by Russia and the United States so that the trade routes of these western countries could extend into
the east, which resulted in the foundation of industrialization in Modern East Asia. Finally, the

Chinese traders began exchanging tea and silver to The East India Company for a return of
Bengali opium imports. Consequently, as the opium addicts rose, so did the supply and demand of
exports from Great Britain to China. The ensuing drug trafficking accordingly corrupted many
Chinese officials. The opium cartel held by The East India Company made other British agents
unhappy, as they too wanted trading monopolies with China in areas such as industrialized
textiles. By 1834, Great Britain directed Lord Napier to bypass the commerce authority in China,
the Cohong, and negotiate matters of trade with China s governor general who declined any
business agreements for the reason that the Chinese saw no reason to sully their dignity by
dealing with barbarians . (pp. 298) Hence, in 1839, when Imperial Commissioner Lin Zexu arrived
in the Chinese trading port of Guangzhou to suppress the opium transfer, war broke out between
Great Britain and China. Commissioner Zexu was successful in eradicating the opium from the
port, yet the Opium War was a defeat for the Chinese and their morality. Queen Victoria of Great
Britain quickly retaliated on China and gained British compensation to their exported commodities
and an agreement from China for the repayment to British peddlers for their destroyed property.
Chinese officials were also forced to not only expand Western trade giving British merchants direct
access to the Qing court

Gun Control Laws Should Have A Balance
America has the highest amount of gun related deaths each year in the world. In Germany 381,
in France 255, in Canada 165 in the United Kingdom 68, in Australia 65, in Japan 39 and in the
United States, 11,127 (Moore Michael, 51:15 51:48). Since the United States has the highest
number of deaths, it is important to have gun control laws that restrict people from owning
dangerous firearms like machine guns. Gun control laws should support both sides of the debate.
Of course, both sides will not be completely happy with the laws created, but America should have
a balance. In 2008, a poll was taken stating: Adult poll respondents views on the meaning of the
Second Amendment; An individual s right to bear arms: Republican 51% and Democrats 41% (The
History of the Right to Bear Arms). Today, the United States
is more divided on gun control than it
has ever been. The Second Amendment states: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the
security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed
(Milestones in Federal Gun Control Legislation). Unless the Second Amendment is changed, we
cannot take the right from others to own guns. However, the government should regulate the types
of gun Americans can own and who can own a gun because times have changed and American s
mental health system is broken.
Decades ago, the United States was once a country where a gun was considered to survive and

Effects of Social Darwinism Essay
Introduction
The Effects of Social Darwinism on the social trends of the 19th century.
As a world view, Darwinism cannot of course be refuted, since Faith is, always has been, and
always will be, stronger than facts. Francis P. Yockey
Social Darwinism is a theory that competition among all individuals, groups, nations or ideas drives
social evolution in human societies. The term draws upon Charles Darwin s theory of natural
selection, where competition between individual organisms drives biological evolutionary change
through the survival of the fittest. The term was popularized in 1944 by the American historian
Richard Hofstadter, and has generally been used by critics rather than advocates of what the term is
supposed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first advocate of the social Darwinism theory had a major impact on the American society as a
whole, starting from economic bases, to the big business minds of the time. In the United States,
Spencer gained considerable support among intellectuals and some businessmen, including steel
manufacturer Andrew Carnegie, who served as Spencer s host during his visit to the United States
in 1883. The most prominent American social Darwinist of the 1880s was William Graham
Sumner, who on several occasions told audiences that there was no alternative to the survival of the
fittest theory. Critics of social Darwinism seized on these comments to argue that Sumner
advocated a dog eat dog philosophy of human behavior that justified oppressive social policies.
Some later historians have argued that Sumner s critics took his statements out of context and
misrepresented his views.
This picture depicts the idea behind social Darwinism. IT is a powerful society in which keeps the
wealthy, and powerful and kicks out the minority, poor folks who are no longer able to survive in
such a materialistic world.
Chapter 2: Major Social Trends of the 19th Century There were many aspects of the American life
during the 19th century that have changed significantly from the times beforehand. Whether it be
from economic policies, religious ideals, or political platforms, there were so many changes being

Types And Types Of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Introduction Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), also known as non insulin dependent DM, is a
chronic metabolic disorder characterized by certain symptoms such as hyperglycemia, insulin
resistance, and relative insulin deficiency [1]. Genetic, environmental and behavioural risk
factors are considered responsible for the predisposition of T2DM [2]. With the progression of
this disease, the patient eventually develops various short and long term complications. Thus, the
patient has to undergo multiple therapies, which reduces the quality of life as well as the life
expectancy [3]. The demographic data suggests that more than 400 million of population, across
the globe are currently suffering from this disease. In 2012, the death toll is upto 1.5 million due
to T2DM and 2.2 million people died due to high blood glucose level [4]. The major problem with
this disease is that it cannot be completely cured, but the symptoms and complications can be
controlled with diet, exercise, medicines and health monitoring. This subsequently lands the patient
on lifetime medication that involves a huge cost. In 2012, the American Diabetes Association
released a letter suggesting an annual expenditure of $245 billion for diabetes, which includes a
direct medical cost of $176 billion and $69 billion in reduced productivity [5]. In order to avoid
and delay the short and long term complications, the patients are prescribed with multiple treatment
modalities such as oral hypoglycemic drugs and

The realization of South America and Africa connect together like a puzzle is not the only fact
that Alfred and some scientists now has found. In the article, The Distribution of Fossils and Plate

prove his theory correct because that is what was also recognized when he formed his theory. The
article also mentioned that the evidence he established was similar plants and animal fossils on the
west coast of Africa and the east coast of South America. Furthermore, other fossil evidence that
was found about plate tectonicsis how plant fossils in the Antarctic and glacial deposits in the arid

Susan Cooper and Native Activism
In her book Spirited Encounters, Cooper mentioned during her young adult life and through her

(xv). According to her, Native Americans were protesting the museums in hoping that museums
would give them back items that were once belong to them and their ancestors. For example, Native
Americans request to get back Alcatraz Island from the government was denied even though it was

To Native Americans, some of the objects were created by their makers with the intent that the
objects would disintegrate naturally, so it is wrong to try to preserve those objects (67). Moreover,
Native Americans think that if the objects were to be return to them, then it is not right for
museums to tell them how to take care of the objects (72). A successful protest, for example, is the
protest against exhibits that were being set up in celebration of Columbus Quincentenary. While
Columbus is view as hero in many American s eyes, he left Native Americans with a painful
memory of enslaving and the bad treatment from the Colonists. In protesting to stop the celebration,
protestors also hoped to re educate the public about Columbus arrival in the Natives point of view
(109 113). Due to these protests, many exhibitions were canceled. The exhibition, Seed of Change
at the National Museum of Natural History tried to avoid the discussion of Columbus by focusing
on things rather than people (117). 3. NAGPRA specifies that American Indians can regain their
materials from institution that receives federal funds as long as they can provide proofs that those
items were taken from them without their approval (63). This law requires that federally funded
institutions must inventory their collections and send reports of the inventories to the tribal groups
(63). When a tribe recognizes an item that belongs to them, they can request for the

The Theories of International Relations

in the world today, most of this theories are not well implemented in most countries which has

This essay will shed more light on the phases of international relations from the individual stage to
the international stage.

В…the security of one is the concern of allВ… and this is where collective responsibility comes
in, in which aggression by one state would be countered by collective action by the other state,
embodied in a league of nations.
The League of Nations illustrated the importance the theory have placed on international
institutions to deal with war and the chance for collective problem solving in a many sided forum
(Mingst,2004:63).
Where we could see the weakness of this theory was when the Liberals is seen to have failed to
make the world safe for democracy as President Woodrow Wilson, who authored the covenant of the
League of Nations, claimed it could during WW1, even when its doctrine were institutionalized into
international organizations like the League of Nations and later the United Nations. Mingst also
added that the League of Nations proved incompetent of maintaining collective security and many
questions of the basic goodness of humanity came up, leaving liberalism under intense scrutiny.
These questions made liberalism as a theoretical perspective fall out of favour.
Realism
This theory believes people to be sinful and wicked by nature and man s aggressive power seeking
and lustful nature has implications on the state. Individual in states are organised to act in a unitary
way in pursuit of its own national interest in terms of power (Mingst, 2004:65). Mingst also wrote

Individual Retirement Accounts Case Summary
Individual retirement accounts (IRAs) have become a dominant retirement vehicle in the US. As a
result, the IRA has become a major asset class that stands out in the estates of many high net worth
individuals. For those with outside funds who are drawing only the required minimum distributions
(RMDs), the IRA can be a great asset to pass on to the next generation. Younger heirs will have the
ability to stretch out the tax deferred status of IRA assets by taking out distributions over a long
period of time. Additional wealth can be transferred through the tax deferred growth in these assets.
Unfortunately, the ability to stretch out distributions is not automatic and the rules are more
complex than most people realize. One wrong move could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

expectancy, the stretch method. The second option does not include a five year rule. Instead, the
heir can continue the original distribution schedule using what would have been the age and life

the beneficiary does not make a selection or the IRA custodian does not name the other method as
the default. As previously mentioned this is also the default if the estate is named as

Emotions In A Midsummer Night s Dream
In the play A Midsummer Night s Dream, by William Shakespeare, emotions and beliefs can shape
people s view of the world. This play is about two lovers, Lysander and Hermia, running away into a

because Demetrius admires Hermia, while Helena admires Demetrius. When they eventually find

  • 4. My Life Hearing The Same Clich My father always told me you learn more from the mistakes you make and answers you miss than from all the studying in the world. As a life long academic, surgeon and leader of the community I had taken those words to heart although felt they were pointless and meaningless. As an emergency physician and master of the seas, it was my job to either know everything or handle everything regardless of the chaos being thrown my way. I went about my life hearing the same clich? statement from college professors, physician instructors, and throughout thousands of classes teaching young boat captains. I even caught myself saying it on several occasions. My oldest brother is 7 years my senior but started a family far younger than myself and earned his success through a less structured and perhaps more stressful route. His life was not a self induced addiction to chaos, adrenaline, and stress, but more one forced upon him in every non traditional way one could imagine. It was he who brought to my attention that I have really never learned anything because all my challenges have been preceded by the education and protected experiences to deal with whatever developed. I was 40 when he first said those words to me and heard the repeated echoes during countless family visits. Also repeated by three brothers, two sisters, and one ex wife. The words never really developed any meaning. I continued my life, seeing patients, driving boats, raising my children and enjoying my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Jane Campion s The Piano Applying a postcolonial perspective, write an analysis of the ideas and values in Jane Campion s The Piano Looking at Jane Campion s The Piano through a post colonial perspective ideas of isolation, civilised vs the uncivilised, and authority and the power as a result of European settlement in New Zealand can be examined. Jane Campion s The Piano explores cultural differences between the native Maori people of New Zealand and the newly arrived Europeans. The first aspect that must be taken into account in this analysis is the physical setting. The film is set within the lush bush of New Zealand just off the coast in the 1850s. The setting itself is intriguing, and very intense in its complexity and density, but yet provides an air of isolation and confinement for the newly arrived Ada. Upon arrival to the beach their shelter for the night, is set against the backdrop of a hostile and empty coast. Ada s surroundings act as a canvas to display the displacement of European settlement. The Maoris often complement the natural environment, working with it in their movements, rather than against as do Ada and Flora. They are shown struggling through the mud and the new terrain in situations where the Maoris fit in seamlessly with their surroundings. Their property is also immediately surrounded my tree trunks, rather than the rich greenery seen elsewhere in the film, symbolic of the Europeans destructions as a result of colonisation. Campion utilises costuming to display the authority and power of the European culture, whilst also criticising its limitations. The natural setting is often juxtaposed with the Europeans dark, and structured clothing, which is ultimately entirely impractical. Ada wears her exuberant, yet dull Victorian clothing, whilst Stewarts clothing is often almost too small, confining and restricting. Her costuming immediately draws the intrigue of the locals, as does her fair skin, isolating her further. This use of costuming highlights how out of place the Europeans are, but also their ignorance of the realities of their environment. This is compared with the Maori s more natural, relaxed clothing that blends with the naturalistic environment. However, there are often aspects of European ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They have been proven to reduce and prevent injury in the event of a car accident by keeping the passenger in their seat. In addition, seatbelts can extend and retract however, in the likelihood of a collision, the belt tightens up to hold the passenger in place so that they do not go through the windshield when the car goes to a sudden stop. Newton s first law of motion states that an object will remain at rest, or will continue with a constant velocity, unless an unbalanced force acts upon it. When a car comes to an abrupt stop, the passenger moves forward and stays in this motion until an unbalanced force acts upon it. The seatbelt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Predicting The Future Of The Election Before The Voting... Predicting the Future Life is full of surprises but there are three things that ultimately determine how you live your life: past, present, and the future. We live our daily lives on those three fundamentals. For example, if it was cold yesterday and it is still cold now, it will probably still be cold tomorrow. This is the same way for Presidential elections. If a candidate were to maintain their strong lead from the beginning of the election, unless something were to happen, it is expected that they will continue that lead in the futureas well. So if meteorologists are able to reliably predict the outcome of the weather, can Psephologists reliably predict the outcome of the presidential election before the voting deadline of November 8th? There are always people who try to stay ahead and predict the future. The very first official weather forecast was made in the 1860s and the first official gallup poll for presidential election has dated back to Roosevelt vs. Landon in 1936 (The Birth of the Weather Forecast). Since then, both weather forecast and presidential prediction has both been reliable but not perfect. From 1936 to 2012, they have predicted 16 out of 20 correctly, or with an 80% accuracy. Most of the incorrect predictions are only off by 1% margin besides the year 1948 where the margin of error was a whopping 5% (Election Polls Accuracy Record in Presidential Elections). This was a tragic year for the pollsters. 1948 presidential election ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Legal System And Ethics The Legal System and Ethics Mid Term Exam Andrian Lord Intro What is a world without laws? Would that be the same as asking what is an apple without its color? Or perhaps the simple question of why does one tie his or her shoes the way they do? Even better, why is it illegal to walk nude amongst peers in the open? Maybe because the law says so. But what is law. Is it this natural thing or is it man made? Do we follow them on our own accord or do so because the law says so? All of these questions are rooted in one s ability to effectively distinguish and interpret positive law and natural law. Before one can answer any of those questions we must go back in time before the development of positive and natural law in order to interpret its meaning and show how intellectual thought of the past, and even in today s time was mirrored after these laws. Origin /Development The Classicalist approach marks the earliest stage for the debate about the development of natural an positive law. For starters classicalism takes natural and positive law to a new intellectual level through the use of two fundamental theories, Teleology and Intellectualism. Through Teleology, early philosophers asserts that human activity and interaction are inherently purposeful, or have purposeful end that exceeds the extent of reality to a place of Eudaimonia . Intellectualism assumes that human actions are a result of rules that transcended the original state of man s mind into this new state of mind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Catharsis In Boxing The Compass In Boxing the Compass, a third person narrator follows a woman waking into a day, the anniversary of her mother s death. This woman rises from her bed, dresses, leaves her apartment, walks into a bakery to buy bread, buys bread, returns to her apartment, heats water, writes, undresses, takes a bath, redresses and leaves her apartment to catch a train to ride toward a graveyard to visit her mother s grave. A seemingly simple plot develops rapidly into a complex labyrinth of the woman s memories, her apprehension of the earth s rising temperatures and sea levels, her ideology regarding time, in relation to the action of boxing a compass. Throughout Boxing the Compass, the daughter s grief over losing her mother acts as a reflection and allows the audience to mourn the holocene s passing due to drastic climate change: a change that enabled human beings to thrive, but will eventually, be their demise as well. Florian is able to accomplish this by applying Aristotle s notions of catharsisto Boxing the Compass. According to the Aristotelian notions of catharsis, a successful tragedywould need to impart the feelings of grief and fear onto the audience. Therefore, the Aristotelian notions and application of catharsis are what enable Florian to develop her central theme of ephemerality through the use of an elaborate analogy of mourning the death of one s mother to mourning the holocene. She describes feeling neglected and disregarded by her mother and the rest of her family. She states that she feels not worthy of affection or care or regard . My client was questioning why her mother behaves the way she does towards her. She finds her mother s behaviour difficult to understand and feels she doesn t understand where it s coming from . During the session my client describes her mother s behaviour in a particular scenario when she felt her mother behaved differently when she had an audience to play to. My client described feeling ganged up on by her mother, who was backed up by her visiting relatives. It is clear my client wants a relationship with her mother and states this clearly when asked. She is seeking answers what is going on , what is going on with this attitude? My client states that she has suffered with feelings of being unworthy for most of her life and suffered a nervous breakdown two years ago after which she sought help from counselling and her GP. Considering what I have outlined above it would appear that my client s feelings of being unworthy and of not being good enough arise from feeling that she doesn t matter to, or is disregarded by her mother and other family members. It would appear that my client s evaluation of her self worth or self esteem has been affected by her close family relationships. In the world today many people are nervous of not fitting in with society so they create a big ego to hide behind their flaws. This kind of growth is evident in Annie Baker s first play Body Awareness by one of the main characters, Jared. Jared is a twenty one year old, slightly autistic boy who still lives with his gay parents, Joyce and Phyllis. Joyce and Phyllis have been telling Jared he has Aspergers ever since he was five years old. Throughout the play Jared shows many signs of Aspergers, but he will not admit it to himself or allow his parents accusations to be correct. Though Jared is conscious of these signs, he is constantly coming up with excuses in order to seem perfect for he believes this will make his parents happy. In the dramatic comedy Body Awareness written by Annie Baker, the author displays that self confidence prevents one s self consciousness. Ego can prohibit the ideaof one s true self. All Joyce, Jared s mother wants is for Jared to be like any normal kid, but he is not. This upsets her, and she constantly tries to bring up the fact that he may have Asperger s and proceeds to explain why. Jared and Joyce, are having a civilized conversation while cooking dinner when Joyce brings up a psychologist and Jared immediately begins to get angry and yells, I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that I don t have it... The article discusses the effect of AI on employment, war and human control, and whether or not it can simulate human intelligence. It gives a background on how AI started, how the military uses it, and how it is used in everyday civilian life. Two significant points are stated by the author. First, AI has yet to be imbued with accurate human like nature. Second, the military has started using AI and robotics to help reduce the number of human soldiers lost in wars. I believe AI has made great strides since it was created and development should continue to advance the state of the net. Although, there are consequences to every good idea. The first signs of AI appeared in the 50s after Konrad Zuse invented the first programmable computer. At a conference in Dartmouth, scientists decided to research how they could bring every type of learning into an advanced state so that a machine can emulate it. The first robotic produced was a mobile robot called Shakey. When a recession hit in the 70s, funding for AI projects was cut short. In the 90s AI research skyrocketed as new software was developed and AI became smarter. Despite the military use of AI, there are many around us in everyday life. Banks use AI to help find fraud credit cards. Security companies are using it to identify facial features and spot criminal activity. Several car companies now use AI on ... For many lesbians of the early and mid twentieth century, to live as a queer woman and to still maintain social respectability meant that lesbians often had to live in the closet. I believe that that lesbian subculture was unknown and ignored because it was impossible for women to claim their identity as a lesbian; they were frequently viewed from the outside as sick, confused, or sinful and no one would want to be considered one. Being a lesbian woman in the streets was unsafe for them, as they were vulnerable to be followed and harassed by men. Finally, in this era working class women were working more and had to keep silent about their sexual identity because it could cost losing their jobs. Although, by the 1920 s there were already a few established communities of women who identified themselves as lesbians, in places such as Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and New York. Essay on A Summary of Bram Stoker s Dracula A Summary of Bram Stoker s Dracula Dracula is an epistolary novel, meaning that is composed from letters, journal and diary entries, telegrams, and newspaper clippings. Jonathan Harker, Mina Murray (later Mina Harker), and Dr. Seward write the largest contributions to the novel although the writings of Lucy Westenra and Abraham Van Helsingconstitute some key parts of the book. The novel has a slightly journalistic feel, as it is a harrowing account supposedly written by the people who witnessed the book s events. Mina goes to nurse him back to health and to help him make the trip back to England. When she arrives, they marry immediately. He gives her his diary but is afraid to read it; she seals the diary and promises that she will never read it unless it is for his sake. Back in England, Lucy has returned to her home in London. Arthur, fearful for her health, asks Dr. Seward to try to figure out what is wrong with her. Seward is baffled by her illness, and calls in the aid of his old mentor, the brilliant Professor Abraham Van Helsing. Van Helsing seems to know from the beginning what he might be up against. The sympathetic nervous system uses nerve pathways to initiate reactions in the body, and the adrenal cortical system uses the bloodstream. The combined effects of these two systems are the fight or flight response. When the hypothalamus tells the sympathetic nervous system to kick into gear, the overall effect is that the body speeds up, tenses up and becomes generally very alert. • 36. The Goal Of The Anger Principle The goal of the Anger Principle is to rationalize why an individual is angry and calculate the extent of their anger within a situation. When trying to decipher whether someone is angry, I look for a few key indicators, such as antisocial body language and aggressive verbal language. Antisocial body language includes pacing, rubbing your head, cupping your fist with your other hand, shaking or trembling, clenching your jaws or grinding your teeth, and sweating, especially of the palms. Aggressive verbal language includes getting sarcastic, losing your sense of humor, raising your voice, speaking abrasively, and beginning to yell, scream, or cry. Many of these signs were present in my various cases. Incidentally, case one is interesting because feelings of anger weren t associated with this decision until 3 years later. Now, whenever I am reminded, I begin to clench my jaw and rub my head. Also, I m not very likely to speak when I am angry, but when I do I am sarcastic and without a sense of humor, i.e., I ll say I was such a smart kid, of course, skateboards can take you everywhere. If anyone else attempts to make a joke about my situation, I d blankly stared at them, conveying my anger by rejecting humor about the situation. As for case five, my friend is a big fan of the former vice present, Joe Biden. To maintain the competitiveness of the Japanese exports and industrial product, the government set the purchasing price of the rice merchant from the peasants, which was much lower than the market price to lower the industrial production cost of the raw materials. The rice riot indicated the social structure at that time that the peasants and low level workers were highly exploited and could not even benefit from the development of the economy. This riot meant the strong dissent to the oppression from the government and the industrial Zaibatsu from the peasants to normal Japanese people. To the government, this riot indicated that this economic development style could not be sustainable, thus entered a more democratic period 1920s. The riot had led to three major changes to the society. Firstly, the salary of the citizens and the purchasing price of the peasants were raised a little while the government tried to lower the market price by increasing imports from its colony Korea and Taiwan as well as other rice producing countries (Morgan 2011, 121 122), which slightly improved the living standard of the poor. The more important impact is in the government that Hara Takashi, who was the first untitled premier. This indicated the end of the Kazoku control of the government and the rise of the party politics. Since the cabinet of Hara, the premier and cabinet members could be untitled, which indicated a great progress for the Japanese democracy development. The rice riot also caused the strong opposition to the left wing ideology in the Japanese government. After the riot, most of the leaders in the movement were arrested and put to the death sentence. To avoid such a riot happening again, the government had a stronger opposition to the left wing movement and strikes (Morgan 2011, 125 134). For instance, even in 1925, a more democratic period, to avoid the spread the communism in Japan and other left wing ideology, the diet had passed Public Security Preservation Laws to delegalize the left wing parties. The lowest temperature was then record for each bath and compared. The salt water had a lower freezing point than the pure water by 2 degrees which supports the hypothesis that solutions have a lower freezing point than pure water. These two different ethical theories are ways that people behave and think is morally correct. In the video the professor talked about the two ethical theories and how the choices that people make can connect to these two theories. The professor said that the utilitarian theory mantra is that good makes something right, and that these people are results oriented. The deontological theory mantra is that right makes something good, and that these people are motive oriented. Moreover, Native Americans think that if the objects were to be return to them, then it is not right for museums to tell them how to take care of the objects (72). A successful protest, for example, is the protest against exhibits that were being set up in celebration of Columbus Quincentenary.
