As the suitors, Odysseus and most of the people in the Greek world could tell you it is a lot
better to have the gods on your side than as your enemy. Odysseus journey home in the Odyssey
was a great example of how the gods can affect your life. One the reasons his journey took so
long was because of the gods intervening. Although without the help of a few gods, he would not
have gotten home at all. In the image, it shows a ship far away from home. It also shows waves
that signify Poseidon not letting Odysseusgo home. The image is very good at showing the
hopelessness the ship in. Also, Geoffrey Philp, in his poem The Cattle of the Sun God shows a
similar point of the power and what can happen if the gods are betrayed. In Philip s writing, it
shows only how awful the gods can be. It is about Odysseus s crew making a dumb decision and
the gods acting as their own system of Karma. In the poem, Philip uses the consequences of the
mortals mistake to demonstrate the power of the gods.
The mortals in Greek world have learned about how awful it is to have a god as your enemy. In the
Odyssey the main character, Odysseus makes a brutal mistake that got a god to be his enemy. In
book 9 after, Odysseus blinds Poseidon s son Polyphemus and tricks him to think his name is
nobody. But after he escapes, he shows hubris and starts to taunt, he mockingly gloats, Cyclops if
any man on earth ask you who blinded you, shamed you so say Odysseus raider of cities, he
