It s hard to recognize the fact that the government could not break them down and destroy them. It s
tough to understand how such atrocious behavior became the norm for people in that time period. It s
challenging to hear of such audacities and not get angry. It seems that through history, people of color

raising the estimated overall imprisonment rate, at any given date, to 2.4 million. These inmates, in
addition to those barred from voting due to past felony convictions, make up approximately 2.5
