INTRODUCTION
The foremost or primary purpose of the communication process
is to make the message ‘effective’ by enhancing its ‘impact’.

In case of Radio (as a medium of communication) the above
mentioned purpose can be achieved by ensuring:

‘uninterrupted supply of the message’- which in turn
generates the desired effect/impact on the listeners ( target
audience) by increasing the absorption of the message.
‘Interpersonal
            Communication’
        Radio speaks to millions and
        •

        addresses individuals.

        •Therefore the characteristics of
        ‘interpersonal communication’
        are at best applicable while
        conveying the message
        through Radio.

        Acoustics/sound and voice are
        •

        the essence of ‘radio messages’
as it is a ‘blind medium’.
Concise/Brief Meaningful
                    Timely

Clear Relevant to the needs of
                          the receiver
1) Posture

Body language and positioning matters while presenting
•

the content

•Conducive environment and proper posture should
induce the necessary expression for increasing the
impact of the message

              2) Projection:

•How to reflect the message keeping in view the
              listeners

              Level of voice
              •

•Content should be with reference to the context of
              listeners
3) Pace

Not to ‘mince words’

Moderate speed continuity

           4) Pitch

Alteration and variation in voice according to the
           meaning of content

Purpose: To communicate the exact/real sense
5) Pause

A delay in between before leaping over to the next
idea

This gives the reader some room to understand and
interpret what has been conveyed before.

                 6) Pronunciation

Right pronunciation and delivery of words

Most significant in case of ‘specialized
                 audience’ (Doctors Farmers etc)
7) Personality

Voice recognition creates an image of the
presenter in the minds of the audience

Correct application of all 6 P’s and 1 S formulates
the personality

                           Stress:

                           Emphasis

Assess the degree of stress according to
                           content
