 Speaking effectively can enhance your
position , decision making , prestige and
strengthen your official position in the
organization .
 Defining the purpose of speaking
The purpose could be a implicit goal , promote
a new business product , or finding some
research .
The ultimate goal is to communicate the
message to the receiver with or without
supporting aids i.e audio visuals , data
illustrations , body language etc.
 Introduction and conclusion of the message
to be conveyed in the prescribed form to the
receiver
 The purpose of speaking can be classified as
 To inform
 To persuade
 To entertain
 To motivate
 Memorized speaking
 Manuscript speaking
 Extemporaneous speaking
 Impromptu speaking
 In this type of speech the entire message is
memorized and delivered from memory . It is
on the most effective way of communicating
the purpose of the message , but it entails a
disadvantage of forgetting the idea and
inability to answer out of subject questions.
 It permits careful weighing of every word or
phrase or sentence to be said.
 Reading the manuscript skillfully by
converting the messages into spoken
presentation albeit the flaws of lack of
improverisation .
 The role of voice dynamics is prominent and
the deciding factor of the speaking mode .
 The speaker thoughts are preplanned but not
the wordings or the phrasing of the sentences.
 The outline of the speakers thoughts are derived
and the content manifestoes from the point of
thought and evolves within the designated
framework .
 Mastery of the subject or message will be the
central focus point and the speakers mode of
delivering will determine the depth of the subject
content.
 It is the most direct approach, natural and
intimate approach of the speaker.
 This methods of speaking ensures
spontaneity
 It secures the receivers confidence and
interest .
 It determines the speakers committed
thoughts rather then worldly talks.
 This form of speaking refers to speaking
without any preparation .
 The speaker central point of focus is to be
ascertained by the point of thought from the
audience .
 Virtual observation of the point of speech
and its related elaboration to be determined
from the pulse of the audience .
 This imperial component of speaking
behaviour is called body language because of
its impactful medium of communicating
messages .
 Kinesics
 Eye Contact
 Facial expression
 Gestures
 Body postures
 Proxemics
 Voice Dynamics
 Chronomics
 The physical movement of the body for
communication , such as blinking eyes ,
nodding the head ,Shrugging the shoulders .
 Body language symbolizes the meaning of the
message effectively and convincingly.
 Eye are the accurate predictor of the speakers
feelings and attitude so positive eye contact
is essential for the speaker .
 Maintain eye contact with sincerity with the
receiver , if in a group all of the listeners eye
contact has to be given equal eye contact.
 Avoid staring at people who want to avoid
your eye contact.
 Use appropriate body movements such as
natural standing, sitting and walking postures
with confidence.
 Use body postures in consistency with the
verbal message .
 Consider the cultural patterns of the listener
and formulate the body movements to avoid
misunderstandings.
 This refers to the space between two persons
in the act of communication.
Intimate Space Language – refers to the 18 inch
distance circle eg family members and close
friends sitting orientation.
Personal Space : Normal conversation with the
radius of 19 inches .
 Social Space Language
Most of the business done within the spacing
of 5 feet to 12 feet .
 Public Space Language :
In this large space communication it extends
from 12 feet to greater distances until the
speaker is audible.
 Proper voice modulation will determine the
quality of the speaker presentation such as
pausing , pronunciation , misleading accent ,
mumble , too loud .
 The time dimension of the communication
determine the success rate of delivering .
 Too long and boring form of messages will
lose the attention of the listener .
 Too short or incomplete messages will
misinterpretation the content of the message
landing in gaps of comprehension the
message .
