The radio advertisement reviews summarize three different ads - one for Nando's, one for Talk to Frank (an anti-drug campaign), and one for McDonald's breakfast.
The Nando's ad features a man using a Hispanic accent to humorously promote the restaurant's spicy food in a relatable way. The Talk to Frank ad takes a serious, factual tone to inform people about the dangers of drugs and where to seek help. The McDonald's ad uses upbeat voices from across the UK to cheerfully promote their breakfast options in an easy-listening manner.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

1. Radio Advert Review
Nando’s
The Nando’s advert style is quite
humorous. The man presenting the advert
is talking in a funny foreign accent, to
relate to the style/nationality of the food
being served. It is a quite stereotypical
Hispanic/Mexican accent. This links to the
type of food Nando’s sell, with it being
spicy. Mexican food is generally associated
with being spicy, so Nando’s is relatable.
There is no celebrity used within the
advert, so people listening can’t have a pre opinion on them.
The advert is factual, but is presented in a comedic way. The man doesn’t speak in an
aggressive manner, but is almost trying to persuade the audience to go to Nando’s. The
overall message from the advert was to eat Nando’s.
The advert was promoting the company, and opening it up too many people by saying they
have an option for everyone. This links to the type of food Nando’s sell, with it being spicy.
Mexican food is generally associated with being spicy, so Nando’s is relatable. There was
conversational language used, but the advert wasn’t in a conversational format. The advert
was just a man speaking to the audience, but the way he came across was friendly and as
though it was a conversation.
The tag line was “The Spirit of Nando’s”. The company was mentioned 3 times within the 32
second advert, and there were no contact details mentioned within the advert; just the
company name. There is a slight backing music used towards the end of the advert. The
music is like salsa/Mexican music, which is fitting to the man’s accent. The main purpose of
the advert is to promote the company and what they sell. The positives of the advert is that
it catches your attention, and is fitting to the subject. A negative is that it might be difficult
to understand and a bit annoying.
Frank
The style of the Talk to Frank
advert is factual, aggressive and
serious. It isn’t aggressive in a
way of feeling threatened, but
more that they are trying to send
a message and get a point across.
2. The overall message of the advert is don’t do drugs as they are bad for you.
The voice used was a southern. Cockney accent. The voice sounds very working class like,
and relatable to everyday people. The advert was presented in an informative way and part
conversational. There wasn’t a tag line used within the advert, but there was a clear
message of not to do drugs.
The company name was mentioned once within this advert, but there was contact details
mentioned. There was a website you can visit and also a message line in which you can text.
There were minimal effects used within the advert. There was a sound of somebody eating
(which is what is known to happen after taking cannabis). There is also sound of a fight, and
a conversation.
The advert is supposed to be informative, with the effects of taking drugs. It informs you on
the side effects, but also where you can seek help. A positive of this advert is that it is very
informative, and provides good information if you need help. A negative aspect may be that
it comes across as quite aggressive and bullying you into it.
McDonalds
The style of the radio is slightly humorous, but very cheerful. All the people who talk in the
advert are happy, and seemvery positive about the company. The advert is modern as its
discussing current matters and talking in a modern
text. The message was about McDonalds breakfasts
and how nice it is. They talk about the options
available and purposely get people from across the
country, to show they serve across the country. This
helps promote the company, as everyone who hears
it will presume there is a McDonalds near them. The
voices used were all very happy and cheerful. They
spoke upbeat about the advertisement and were a
mixture of male and female.
There were different British accents used within the advert, for example Welsh and English.
All the language was informative but in an easy listening way. The voices weren’t annoying
or aggressive. There was no tag line, but the advert was solely focussed on McDonalds
breakfast. The company name was mentioned 4 times, once by each different voice and
then an extra time at the end. There were a few details mentioned. For example, what you
can have for your breakfast, e.g. brown sauce or ketchup.
There was also information that you can only get breakfast before 10”30am, which is
important as they won’t want people turning up after that time asking for breakfast. There
were no contact details mentioned, only the store itself. There was a cheerful music played
quietly in the background behind the voices. Then there was also the famous McDonalds
whistle at the end of the advert.
The main purpose of this advert was to inform customers of their breakfast offer. This
provided details of what they serve and when you can get it. The advert also mentioned that
3. you can get breakfast from the drive through; which a lot of people will want to do in the
early mornings.
A positive about this advert is that it was a very positive advert and comes across as polite
and not annoying. This makes it easy to listen to, and probably wouldn’t get annoyed after
hearing it numerous times. A negative is that there isn’t much information about the offer
said within the advert. It only briefly mentions the time you can buy the breakfast at the end
of the advert, very fast. This is the only information said about the breakfast deal within the
whole advert.
