Minority Group
 A group of people that is
  numerically lesser than the rest of
  the population
 Non-dominant position, possess

  ethnics religious or linguistic
  characteristics which distinguish
  them from the rest of the
  population
Minority Group
   Its members share a sense of
    solidarity and a desire to preserve
    their culture, traditions, religion or
    language
Characteristics of a minority
group
 The members suffer various
  disadvantages at the hand of
  another group
 They are identified by group

  characteristics that are socially
  visible
 It is a self-conscious group with a
  strong sense of “oneness”

 They do not become members of
  a minority group voluntarily but
  are born into it
 They tend to marry within the

   Ancestors used to be lowlanders,
    migrated to the mountains of
    Central Luzon in two distinct
    waves:
    • Search for food and water, and
      to trade commodities
    • Seek refuge and flee from
      Spaniards

 Bangsamoro, better known as
  Moros; consist of 12 groups
 Moros – a term for barbarism and

  inferiority, coined by the
  Spaniards

  • 3. Ethnic Group  A group of people with common cultural background  According to G. Thomas’ theory of the “definition of the situation” – the physical characteristics that identify the group is not important but the feeling of belonging to each other
  • 4. Minority Group  A group of people that is numerically lesser than the rest of the population  Non-dominant position, possess ethnics religious or linguistic characteristics which distinguish them from the rest of the population
  • 5. Minority Group  Its members share a sense of solidarity and a desire to preserve their culture, traditions, religion or language
  • 6. Characteristics of a minority group  The members suffer various disadvantages at the hand of another group  They are identified by group characteristics that are socially visible  It is a self-conscious group with a strong sense of “oneness”
