1. Question Three: What kind of media
institution might distribute your media
product and why?
Definition: A media institution is an organization that deals with the
production, marketing, distribution and regulation of media products.
Major media institutions:

ITV-http://www.itv.com/
Sky-http://www.sky.com/
Development Hellhttp://www.developmenthell.co.uk/
Bauer Media-http://www.bauermedia.co.uk/
IPC Media-http://www.ipcmedia.com/
Bauer Media:
Bauer Media is a worldwide media empire. Offering
over 300 magazines in 15 countries.
Bauer Media reaches over 19 million UK adults
across multiple media channels and owns more than
80 influential brands.
Bauer Media owns music magazines such as
Kerrang!, Q, Mojo and many more.
IPC Media:
IPC Media Ltd is a consumer magazine and digital
publisher in the UK, with a large portfolio selling
over 350 million copies each year. They sell a huge variety of magazines, shown
below. IPC covers a huge audience range.
2. Development HellDevelopment Hell is an independent institution, which is originally based in
Islington London. The two main magazines they sell are WORD and Mix Mag. WORD
is a rock magazine and Mix Mag is a club and dance magazine.
My magazineI think an institution like IPC media might distribute my media product. They
distribute music magazines such as NME and Teen Now; they cover a wide audience
so I feel my magazine would fit into their range very well! But I would prefer Bauer
Media to distribute my media product because it’s very popular and well
recognized. It distributes a wide range of well-known magazines already, such as
Kerrang! And Q. I think my magazine would fit in well because it is aimed at teen
girls whom I feel Bauer haven’t targeted yet with their current magazine
distributions.
I would choose IPC over Development Hell as IPC are much well known. However,
Development Hell distributes a rock magazine and a dance magazine so mine would
be a good asset to their media products.
