Question 3. What kind of media
institution might distribute
your media product and why?
Media Institutions
A media institution is an
established, often-profit based
organization, that deal in the
creation and distribution of
advertising, entertainment and
information services.
In my research I analysed 3 different
magazines; NME, Kerrang and Q. Q
and Kerrang are both published and
distributed by Beau media and
NME is published and distributed by
IPC media.
Bauer Media
Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media
Group. The group offers over 300 magazines
in 15 different countries Not only are they
online they also have a TV and radio station.
Today, Bauer distributes over 80 brand
names covering different interests. Bauer
media is a sister company H Bauer
Publishing who publishes one of UK’s largest
TV listing magazines.
Bauer Media and My Product
If I was too choose Bauer Media to
publish and distribute my product I
think they wouldn’t take as much
money due to the fact they already
have magazines which are similar to
mine. Their magazines follow the
same conventions and some follow
the same colour scheme which all
use rock music. If they chose my
product they wouldn’t get as much
money as they wanted or hoped
IPC Media
With more than 60 iconic media brands,
IPC creates content for multiple platforms,
across print, online, mobile, tablets and
events. We engage with 26 million UK
adults - almost two thirds of UK women
and over 40% of UK men. Our award
winning portfolio of websites reaches over
25 million global users every month.
Distributes:
- Marie Clare, NME, TVTimes, Nuts,
Country life, Soaplife, Mousebreaker
and Now.
IPC Media and My Product
As IPC doesn’t distribute many music magazines like
mine it will attract many people and a different
audience for IPC.
If IPC publish and distribute my magazine I think
they would get a lot of money. This is because it is
different to what they already have.
My media product is different to other magazines
such as NME because they contain bad language and
usually have a wider target audience whereas mine
will be suitable for younger people but still
enjoyable to read. Also mine is released monthly
therefor magazines will be in competition.
