• Bauer Media Group is a multinational media
company based in Germany. It operates in 15
countries worldwide. The company has been
privately owned and under management by the Bauer
family since it was founded in 1875.
• Worldwide circulation of Bauer media group’s
magazine titles amounts to 38 million magazines a
week. As well as having a 50% stake in the British
television company Box Television, Bauer media
group is responsible for publishing two major music
magazines Q, and Kerrang! Bauer media group has an
impressive annual turnover of over 2 billion euros.
• IPC Media (International Publishing Corporation)
is a subsidiary of Time Inc. It is a consumer
magazine and digital publisher in the United
Kingdom with a large portfolio, selling over 350
million copies each year.
• As one of the UK’s largest magazine publishers, it
targets over 26 million UK adults. IPC media
groups it’s current titles under three magazine
divisions, each focusing on a core audience:
connect (mass market women), SouthBank
(upmarket women) and inspire (men). An example
of a popular music magazine published by IPC
media is NME.
I think that Bauer media group would be best suited to
publishing Rebel magazine because It is a multinational
company and already publishes huge magazines such as Q
and Kerrang! My magazine has a similar style to Kerrang!
(neat and professional) and I also have a similar target
audience so they are already representing what I want
Rebel magazine to be. They also have a 50% stake in Box
Television channels such as 4Music and Smash Hits, So this
would give Rebel magazine the change to branch onto
television
Music magazines make a large sum of money through
advertising for companies and products on pages
throughout their magazines. The adverts tend to relate to
the type of magazine and the audience it is targeted at.
Considering that Rebel magazine if of the rock genre and is
targeted at young adults, below are some of the brands that
I think Rebel would advertise for;
Given that my magazine is aimed at young adults I believe
that it is important to have an online presence. This would
include a website where all the latest news and updates
would be posted. I would also create a page on Facebook,
Twitter and YouTube. As this ensures a more personal
relationship with Rebel readers and helps them engage on
a further level. I also think that it will be beneficial to make
Rebel magazine available for iPhone, iPad and android
ensuring that it is reaching a wider target audience.
However I don’t think an individual app would be
necessary until Rebel has a wider fan base.
