2. When it came to attracting my audience towards my
magazine, I would take inspiration from other Rock
magazines such as Kerrang and Q, their attracting of
the audience and the demographic was roughly the
same demographic that I was going for. The use of
informal language and slang by Kerrang was an
effective technique to attract their audience of young
adults 19-24 with more of a quarter of their readers still
in education
My target audience was between 16-24 and so using
Kerrang as an inspiration, it would be effective at
reaching my targeted demographic, knowing that mine
had to suit the needs of this generations technophiles
with content that fitted the theme and I believe I have
done so in my magazine
3. Front Cover Firstly I made the made the masthead the
largest text on the magazine so that it would
attracts people’s attention and eyes by having
right at the top and straight across so that
even when apart of it is covered on a
magazine stand, you are still able to see the
masthead. The colour scheme of red, yellow,
red and white prominent from top to bottom
on the magazine so that is distinct and
recognisable as the brand of ‘Unplugged',
seen in the sell lines, pug and footer bars.
The language used on the front cover comes
across as reading bait as it doesn’t fully
disclose the information of what the sell lines
are about but are enough to gage the readers
interest and get them to buy the music
magazine also giving them a chance to get
insider knowledge on latest beefs between
bands/singers.
The pug also attracts the reader by offering a
free album which costs around £8 as a bonus
for subscribing the magazine, also costing
less over all.
The picture of the close up of Tomos, staring
directly at the camera with a tilted head, the
mise-en-scene of his haircut with grey shirt
and black jacket sends off vibes of a rocker
with attitude but within the article, that wasn’t
the route I went with, going with a more softer
side of him
4. Contents
Continuing on the colour scheme from the front
cover with the black text on a yellow background,
making it stand out more for the readers of my
magazine, having an editor’s letter to connect more
to audience by having active participation with in it,
saying that the goofy photo was “an award for the
loyal readers” and speaking to them as though they
were afraid by speaking to them directly and not
broadly, asking for them to vote for my music
magazine, making them have a sense of
importance as they were able to give their possible
favourite magazine an award, I have also catered to
the technophile audience by having a web address
at the bottom of the contents with it leading to the
online variant of the magazine.
Having the greyed description below the segments
with in the magazine allows the reader to know a
brief idea on what they are about to read if they
decide to flick to the page.
I cater to those that want more of a rocky sense of
style and to the audience of rockers that like to play
video games, wanting to have a laugh as they read
about or watch people play the games.
5. Double Page
Spread
I once again include the website
address in the double page spread
to reinforce the chance of
technophiles going from buying the
music magazine to buying it
digitally.
Having the headline of Rising and
Fading which in two ways has
connotations to the article as it is
about the artist rising into fame and
not mind fading back out but it is
also the names of two EP’s of the
band the artist used to be in, with
the colour of the text itself fading
from one colour to another, I used
the title because it thought it had
more connection to the actual
article than my previous one which
was a title of a Kaiser Chiefs song
The caption on the picture makes
the reader included as it describes
what the picture is about and where
it was taken, having some humour
The pull quote in the middle of the article
was to gage the reader before he/she
started article reading, having in directly in
the middle makes it unmissable and
encourages the reader to see what it is
about, the language intriguing . The drop
capitals also leading to the help of guiding
