This document provides a mood board and plot overview for an action/thriller film. The film follows an ex-military man, Jack Hunter, who is convicted of his fiancee's murder but released from prison after two years. He sets out to get revenge by tracking down the secretive group called "The Leviathans" that he believes are responsible. Key scenes include an interrogation room setting up Jack's backstory, flashbacks showing his military training and the execution of his fiancee, and Jack receiving clues that lead him to confront the leader of The Leviathans. The film explores themes of PTSD, revenge, and conspiracy as Jack struggles with the trauma from his past.
2. Mood Board
Audience will have a large interest in films
such as John Wick, American Assassin, The
Bourne Identity.
3. Genre/Target audience
The genre we have chosen for our film was finalised
after re amending our plot. It started as a
psychological thriller but as it got unrealistic and too
complicated we narrowed it down to more action with
hints of psychological trauma.
The overall genre is Action/Thriller.
Our target audience consists of those who are into
similar films, that of the Bourne Legacy, American
Assassin (the main influence of our plot line) and
hints to James Bond. Age wise these can be
anything above a 15 rating and as it is outlining the
effects of extreme PTSD we would have to take
caution not to be insensitive towards the older
audiences who may have experienced this.
4. Music
The music used for the trailer will be split up to two
audio files. The first will be a slow paced low beat
level, like Green days - “When September Ends” the
introduction to this song is acoustic based which
would be ideal to set the mood and scene of the
trailer portraying an easy living style life. This will
then be broken by speech and built back up again
into a hard hitting song with a blocked out beat that
can compliment the fast paced action shots. We
thought of something like Rolling Stones “Paint it
Black” as an influence for the build up as it has a
jumping Rhythm that will effectively compliment hits
or screen cuts.
5. Locations and Setting (inside)
One of our key scenes takes place in
an interrogation room. This can easily
be done, if we use set and lighting
correctly. To create this we will have to
get a dark room and only use one light.
As shown in the picture we can use a
lamp to create tense and realistic
lighting and only light our main
character, to create some animosity to
the interrogator.
We all imagined that our final scene
would take place in an open-ish
area. We hope we are able to
access inside open areas for the
action scenes.
6. Locations and Setting (Outside)
Many of our shots will be taking place inside
and few will rarely be taking place outside.
One of our flashbacks take place in a
warzone. Looking at our surrounding areas,
we do not have access to sandy dunes and
rubble buildings. However we are in a
valley. Filmed right we can make the
surrounding areas seem like the mountains
found in Afghanistan.
The other flashbacks takes place in
some woods. We have access to a lot
of forest areas so we will be able to
find places like this.
7. Locations and Setting (Outside)
Any additional set location may include Fields or
Courtyards. These will likely be used for actions
scenes as the space they provide can allow for
easy movement.
8. Characters
Main character: Jack Hunter – Ex-military,
20 something, has an fiancée, ex-con, extensive
training in CQC and sniping.
Side characters: Gareth Dennis – Jack’s best
mate but also his comrade and spotter.
Sarah – Jack’s fiancée, she is was a nurse
that looked after Jack during his medical
discharge from the service.
9. Themes of the film
The film would contain elements of
violence, strong language, conspiracy,
revenge, murder and the use of ‘firearms’.
Showing a man’s struggle to take revenge
out on those who took a loved one’s life
away from.
A much more in-depth theme will be
portrayed which will require us to be
sensitive around which would be Extreme
cases of PTSD.
10. Plot over view Beginning
Our film starts in an interrogation room with two
police officers, 2 years prior to the present day,
where the main character Jack is being convicted for
the murder of his fiancée. The officers talk about
Jacks military background, his past behavior, his
fathers death and his fiancée. As the officers arrest
Jack he gets flashbacks of a silhouette of a person
and the gun with his fiancée. Jack is sentenced to
life in prison and the camera cuts to the present day.
Jack has been released after 2 years over false
claims, he is sat in an interview room with a
mysterious unknown officer. The officer hands him a
file named ‘Leviathans’ which gives Jack his first clue
into finding his fiancée’s murderer.
11. Middle
Jack spends years after his prison
sentence finding out about the
Leviathans, meeting people who have
also been affected by them, people who
have leads on how he can find them.
Once Jack collects enough information
he heads off to find the mysterious
group.
12. End
Jack arrives at the groups location and finds the man
who killed his fiancée, Jack raises his gun to the
mans head. Jack is then confronted by a mysterious
man dressed in black, the two get into a fight and
Jack manages to shoot the man. As the man is on
the floor he raises his head off the floor and Jack is
able to see that it is his old best friend. Jack finds it
hard to believe that his best friend has not been
dead this whole time and that he has just killed him,
he turns hearing sirens, reaches out for his old
friends gun, pulls a picture of his fiancée out of his
pocket, he says sorry and pulls the trigger on himself
13. Five Key scenes
Interrogation room – Sets the scene and feeling of
the film, who our main guy is.
His training – shows how he is preparing for the
hunt, and his arsenal showing the military trained
background.
Execution scene – sets the plot line, giving the
motive but still the mystery of who killed her and why.
Flash back to his military days – this will outline his
origin of the PTSD and why he has such a blood lust
on the revenge of his Fiancée
Main character receiving money and the documents
– this would be key as it shows he has help from
others on a low level to repay the wrongs that have
happened to him.
