MAGAZINE NO.1
The magazine has a colour theme using the colours yellow, red and black and this is a good
thing because the magazine organized arranged well. The colour yellow and black also
contrast one another making the font more bold and bright so it can easily capture the
audience’s attention when they see the magazine.
It features a top and bottom strip, on the top strip it includes a famous, well known bands such
as Linkin Park and on the far right Metallica is also mentioned as these two bands are most
popular within the rock music industry. By having this top strip it give you more of an insight of
what is included in the magazine and by adding more info below the bands name it gives us
another sneak peak in what is mentioned. On the bottom strip it shows images of posters that
come with the magazine, this is known as a freebie as you receive this for free and by having
the images you can be able to see if you might be interested in these. Also, it mentions another
famous rock band ‘A Day To Remember’ and underneath it mentions a review of their new
album, this will make fans who are interested in this band want to read this article so it’ll attract
more people.
There is the use of exclamation marks on the cover page and this is used to exaggerate or
known as a hyperbole to add more excitement and emphasis on a certain sell line.
The pug on the right includes another famous band ‘Of Mice & Men’ and it mentions them
being in the studio. Underneath there is a quote used, this is significant as using quotes tells us
that this what they said is true and not a lie, this will capture the audiences eye who is a fan as
they can exclusively read the interview of them.
The main image shows a band called ‘Panic! At The Disco’ and by using this famous band
more people will be able to relate to this magazine if they know the main singer on the cover
Brendon Urie, therefore it’ll be more likely for them to buy the magazine.
The magazine includes a freebie on the bottom strip, the bottom strip is extended as it shows
all the posters that are included, the freebie is used as a persuasion for the audience to try and
purchase the magazine.
The use of alliteration
MAGAZINE NO.2
On the cover page, it features a famous band ‘Paramore’ this is significant as they’ve chosen a
popular rock band so most people who are fans of them will most likely buy the magazine straight
away. The main sell line is in the middle of the cover page which includes a quote and a
subheading below to give us more news on what the band will be talking about in the interview.
Using a quote and an exclamation mark puts more emphasis for the interview and making it more
interesting to give it a more lively feel.
A freebie is included in the magazine and this persuades the audience to buy the magazine as
they could be receiving something free that’s included especially if the audience are fans of ‘Bring
Me The Horizon’. Below this, are two more sell lines which features more famous bands being
interviewed, the use of a box out makes the sell lines stand out more and by using different colours
for the box out this also makes it looks bold.
The top strip mentions another well recognised band would be My Chemical Romance and by
using the words ‘MCRMY’ this will mostly only be understandable to fans who know the band so
this will be eye catching to the fans because only they’ll know what it means, meaning it’ll be
exclusive to them only.
The masthead is mostly covered by the band members and this could be because it shows the
importance of the band since they’re one of the most famous rock bands. On the right, there is a
pug. This features a competition for the Kerrang! Awards and this may intrigue and persuade the
audience because they may want to attend and this could be a chance for them to win tickets.
On the bottom strip it features two stories, one who of Austin Carlile from Mice & Men and the
band Metallica. These two stories are a contrast to one another as the first one mentions bad news
whereas the other is good, these two stories will attract different types of audiences therefore more
people will buy the magazine.
A box out is shown above saying “Special Pull-Out Cover!”, this feature is significant as the cover
page shown on the right is just a sneak peak and tells the audience that there is more inside once
you purchase the magazine making it more interesting
MAGAZINE NO.3
This cover page hardly shows the masthead this suggests that since it’s so well known, the
masthead doesn’t need to capture attention but it’s the band that’s headlining the magazine that
is more recognisable to the audience. There is also a colour theme to the cover page, each
colour chosen is significant as it makes the magazine more bright and vivid, so that it’s clear
and so that its eye catching. For example, Kerrang! mainly uses colours such as black, yellow
and red. These three colours are the main ones that make the calligraphy stand out on the
cover page. Red is one of the top two favourite colours, therefore this’ll appeal to the audience.
The black and yellow are used to contrast one another so that the font is made to be bold.
The top strip features Dave Grohl and by only using the name and not the band which he’s in
this creates a personal connection to those who are fans with the Foo Fighters as they know
him and the word ‘You’ is underlined this pronoun this suggests the magazine is talking directly
to you and no one else, this then tempts you to buy the magazine so that you can have the
chance to go to the gig.
A freebie is included in the magazine and this another feature that will captivate the audience as
they get something for fee. Not to mention, they get 10 posters and this gives them more of a
range because if they may not like some of the bands they can have a selection rather than just
having one. It also has images so it gives you an insight on how the poster’s going to look like
once you purchase it.
The main sell line features an issue about the event Valentine’s day as this issue was released
during this time and underneath it contains more information. The magazine uses Valentine’s
day to relate it to the certain article, using it as a pun. The use of the determiner ‘your’, the
magazine directs it the audience to try and make a connection between yourself and the
magazine.
On the bottom strip it features two celebrities being in competition one another, this’ll capture
the audiences attention as they’ll be interested in knowing what the drama is about, there is
also the use of exclamation marks to exaggerate the drama.
MAGAZINE NO. 4
This cover page again features the main colours that Kerrang! use on most of their
magazines, the yellow and black make the font brighter and more eye catching so
it’ll be easy for the audience to pay attention to as yellow is a bright colour it’ll
capture the audiences eyes and draw them in easier.
The mast head has a broken, cracked font, this is relevant to Kerrang! because
since they’re based on rock music this gives it the added effect and emphasis on
their genre, not to mention the exclamation mark adds to this as rock music is loud
and is used as an hyperbole. However, not the whole of the masthead is shown
and this could be because the magazine is already well known so that many people
wouldn’t need to guess the magazine name.
On the top strip it features the band ‘Nirvana’ and this may fascinate audiences
even if they’re not that interested in the rock music industry as Nirvana was a
famous band known to mostly everyone and people who honoured Nirvana could
want to read the tribute made for them. The bottom strip contains two interviews
and exclamation marks to exaggerate both articles. The images are used to show
both bands so that it gives us a sneak peak of what’s inside the magazine.
The freebie is used to persuade the audience into purchasing the magazine as they
know you’ll get 6 free posters for free and on the left hand side there are images
shown of the free posters so that the audience can see what they’ll be receiving if
they do buy it.
There is the use of a mid shot on the main image and the singer Jenna Mcdougall
is posing, she looks shocked and is holding a bomb, this is significant as Kerrang!
Is known for being loud, intense and heavy so this is a similarity to the title. There is
the use of box outs to make the band of the title stand out, so that is can easily be
read and the font is large so it can be seen easily and underneath there is another
use of box out in 3D to make it look like its coming out of the page so that it attracts
more attention.
The bar code is essential to the magazine as it usually shows what issue it is and
without it you wouldn’t be able to purchase the magazine, the bar code also tells
the price so this is key as the audience may want to know how much it is.
MAGAZINE NO. 5
This cover page uses a certain colour theme just like Kerrang!, they both use the colour red as this
is mostly a bold and bright colour. The use of red, suits the main image used for the cover page as
the character Katniss Everdeen is also wearing red. Not to mention, they use the colour white and
a light nude colour: the nude is mostly used for the sell lines and the white is used for the main sell
line. The colour is also fierce and this links in with the main image as they’re promoting the new
film ‘The Hunger Games’ which is a film about rebellion.
The mast head is behind the main image because it doesn’t have to shown to be known since it’s
already a big magazine company and instead of the ‘O’ being a normal letter, its in the style of the
Mockingjay pin based on the film they’re promoting. A top and bottom strip is included and the use
of images are used to give a hint of what each story is going to be about and what you can see. On
the top strip it uses a rhetorical question and then the use of ellipsis to create master then it
continues on with the name ‘SUPERGIRL’ in bold font to make it stand out, this indicates what one
of the articles will be about since it’s based on sic fi tv shows and films. It also includes more
information below so the reader can get a taste of what is inside.
The use of white font used for the main sell line makes it stand out behind the red and it’s
intentionally made to look like someone spray painted it on. The underlining of ‘is’ is used as an
hyperbole to exaggerate the mockingjay film. This makes the audience thrilled to see the film as
they wonder what will happen and want to read on to get the exclusive stories.
On the bottom strip, there is more information of new tv shows that are being released such as
Legend’s of Tomorrow and Twin Peaks which also excited the audience as they may want to see
these new shows but first want to know about it. There is an image used shown on the 1/3 of the
cover page to give the insider a sneak peak.
A pug is used on the bottom right, its an image on BB-8 who is featured in one of the most famous
film saga ‘Star Wars’ and this mostly targets fans who are fans of the film as it says there are toys
that they ‘need’ to know about. It also uses an exclamation as another method of hyperbole to try
and get the fans to get the magazine just to find out the toys you can collect.
On the right it then features more information on whats inside that the audience may be interested
in so it covers a wide range of fandoms therefore making more profit for the company.
MAGAZINE NO. 6
This cover page features the new DC film ‘The Suicide Squad’, they have used a mid shot to
show the character the Joker for the new film. This is significant as it shows a certain theme
the ‘EMPIRE’ magazine has gone for this month. Since there is a new DC film, they have
featured one of them most famous characters and we see a sneak peak of how he looks like
for the new film. This may interest a certain audience they’re targeting at, specifically fans of
DC Comics or films or anyone who is a film fanatic as it gives us a preview of what he’ll look
like, this look is also very different from the past jokers and is more modernised and has a
more darker twist to it which might intrigue the viewers more, leaving them to question the
new upcoming film.
The barcode is seen below the masthead which is important as without this the user wouldn’t
be able to purchase the magazine. The masthead is an important feature as it tells us the
magazine company and the masthead is covered by the main image this may be because
they are mainly focusing on the main image for the cover page and that since the magazine
is already well known by the public there’s no need to show it entirely.
The top strip features a sneak peak of whats inside the magazine, mentioning one of the
most important awards show. This may attract the audience as they may be interest in the
oscars and what films are nominated and the reviews of certain films that are nominated.
Underneath it then features the list of the films nominated and the user may know these films
or not but it may intrigue them since they do feature a review of each one inside they may
decide to watch it after reading the magazine.
There are no other sell lines on this content page as all the attention is on the new film, the
‘Suicide Squad’ so it emphasises how big the film is going to be. Underneath it says
‘Psychos. Killers. Freaks. Here to save the world’ this gives us an idea of the new film and
how it’s different from ordinary superhero films since the roles have been switched and the
villains are the one saving the world. This may interest the audience as it’s something
different and unique.
The colour theme used it green and white and these two colours stand out from the
background as it’s a dark purple colour. The green links in with the character the Joker and
the white is used so that the font is easily noticed.
CONTENTS PAGE NO. 1
On the top left of the contents page, there is an issue number and contents date to
inform the reader what issue they have brought so they can see whether they have
missed it out or not, this is so they’re updated with the magazine.
Again, Kerrang! have used the same colours they normally incorporate in their
magazines: red, black and yellow. This is their colour theme so that the audience will
easily notice the magazine, these colours make the magazine stand out as red and
yellow are bright, bold colours and the black is used as a contrast to the two colours
and for box outs.
The contents page is organised by the use of subheadings, for example there is a
separate section for the main features on the magazine which were shown on the front
cover and there is a section on other news that were shown on the bottom strap line.
This helps the magazine to be organised so that the audience knows what the sell lines
will be about by using subheading to order it.
They’ve included certain images to link it to certain pages in the magazine, they mainly
use bands that are more famous such as Paramore as the biggest image at the top as
they’re the main news for the magazine.
On the right hand side, there is a paragraph written by James the editor of Kerrang!
introducing himself and talking about the magazine and whats featured inside giving us
a basic outline of it, he mentions the band ‘Tonight Alive’ who were on the cover page
and then during the end mentions a giveaway which will persuade the audience to
participate in this giveaway so that the magazine also interacts with the audience.
On the bottom right of the page it mentions who helped create the issue then it
mentions a raffle competition for the audience to take park it so that they can interact
with them and persuade them to join.
CONTENTS PAGE NO. 2
The contents page is double paged which is
different as normally its only one so this magazine
features more information. At the top and also
middle of the double page there are images
placed showing the specific pages to indicate what
certain articles are about and what it features on.
Some of images are bigger than the other
suggesting which ones are the main articles. The
images also indicate what each one is about and
has a mini blurb for additional information. On the
bottom half of the double pages you can see that
they are organised into categories to show where
they go under, this makes it easier for the
audience to find each article. They also have
information on each one saying what it’s about,
this persuades the audience as it leaves them
wanting to read on and finding more about the
article.
The colour theme in the contents page is different to the cover page and instead of it being a nude colour, its changed to the colour black
this may because the colour stands out more since its darker colour. However, white and red is still used but only to a certain amount, red is
used for the page number and the white is normally used for a contrast. On the right of the second page there is information of the people
involved in the company magazine answering a question based on the cover feature ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’, this is used to again
promote the film as it’s one of the most anticipated films of 2015. By including this is gives us an introduction to the makers (the team of the
company) so the audience can relate to them and have more of an inside of who they are and what they’re like. The image of ‘Supergirl’ is
significant as her hand it out of the frame but continues, this gives it a 3D effect as this is one of the main interviews so it indicates it’s
importance in the magazine.
CONTENTS PAGE NO. 3
This contents page contains a clear title to indicate that it’s the contents page. This is
important because without this title or indication then the audience wouldn’t be able to
find what each article is about or what page a certain article is.
The contents is divided by two subheadings: features and regulars. The features
include the ‘Suicide Squad’ film which was on the cover page and on the right there’s
an image to show the audience another sneak peak of another character in the film.
The films that were seen on the cover page are also in the featured subheading as it
says ‘oscars special’ so that it’s clear which films are nominated.
The other subheading regular has two images, one is the new show ‘Jessica Jones’
which is a new tv show on Netflix and since Netflix is famous, a lot of the audience will
want to read this article to see if its worth the watch. The other image is a famous
British actor, Idris Elba and this is significant as many people in the UK may know him
so this may influence the user to purchase the magazine. The regulars also include a
page on new films out in the cinemas which may interest the user so they can keep
updated on whats coming out.
Each article has information below to give the user what each one is about and some of
them include actor names whom are famous such as Johnny Depp, Will Ferrel, Eddie
Redmayne etc. This can influence the user to buy the magazine if they like a certain
actor so they may purchase is for this reason. The information below is short as it gives
the reader questioning what each article is going to include and what the celebrities or
the person being interviewed is going to say. Also, there is reviews done so the person
may be interested in reading what peoples opinions are, the rating and the plot line of a
certain film or tv show.
The colour theme has changed on here as its now black, red and orange. From the
previous magazine anaylsis’ black and red are mostly used colours as red makes the
font stand out and black is a dark colour so it can be seen clearly.

The Hunger Games Magazine Promotes New Film

  • 1. By Patricia J. Elloso
  • 2. MAGAZINE NO.1 The magazine has a colour theme using the colours yellow, red and black and this is a good thing because the magazine organized arranged well. The colour yellow and black also contrast one another making the font more bold and bright so it can easily capture the audience’s attention when they see the magazine. It features a top and bottom strip, on the top strip it includes a famous, well known bands such as Linkin Park and on the far right Metallica is also mentioned as these two bands are most popular within the rock music industry. By having this top strip it give you more of an insight of what is included in the magazine and by adding more info below the bands name it gives us another sneak peak in what is mentioned. On the bottom strip it shows images of posters that come with the magazine, this is known as a freebie as you receive this for free and by having the images you can be able to see if you might be interested in these. Also, it mentions another famous rock band ‘A Day To Remember’ and underneath it mentions a review of their new album, this will make fans who are interested in this band want to read this article so it’ll attract more people. There is the use of exclamation marks on the cover page and this is used to exaggerate or known as a hyperbole to add more excitement and emphasis on a certain sell line. The pug on the right includes another famous band ‘Of Mice & Men’ and it mentions them being in the studio. Underneath there is a quote used, this is significant as using quotes tells us that this what they said is true and not a lie, this will capture the audiences eye who is a fan as they can exclusively read the interview of them. The main image shows a band called ‘Panic! At The Disco’ and by using this famous band more people will be able to relate to this magazine if they know the main singer on the cover Brendon Urie, therefore it’ll be more likely for them to buy the magazine. The magazine includes a freebie on the bottom strip, the bottom strip is extended as it shows all the posters that are included, the freebie is used as a persuasion for the audience to try and purchase the magazine. The use of alliteration
  • 3. MAGAZINE NO.2 On the cover page, it features a famous band ‘Paramore’ this is significant as they’ve chosen a popular rock band so most people who are fans of them will most likely buy the magazine straight away. The main sell line is in the middle of the cover page which includes a quote and a subheading below to give us more news on what the band will be talking about in the interview. Using a quote and an exclamation mark puts more emphasis for the interview and making it more interesting to give it a more lively feel. A freebie is included in the magazine and this persuades the audience to buy the magazine as they could be receiving something free that’s included especially if the audience are fans of ‘Bring Me The Horizon’. Below this, are two more sell lines which features more famous bands being interviewed, the use of a box out makes the sell lines stand out more and by using different colours for the box out this also makes it looks bold. The top strip mentions another well recognised band would be My Chemical Romance and by using the words ‘MCRMY’ this will mostly only be understandable to fans who know the band so this will be eye catching to the fans because only they’ll know what it means, meaning it’ll be exclusive to them only. The masthead is mostly covered by the band members and this could be because it shows the importance of the band since they’re one of the most famous rock bands. On the right, there is a pug. This features a competition for the Kerrang! Awards and this may intrigue and persuade the audience because they may want to attend and this could be a chance for them to win tickets. On the bottom strip it features two stories, one who of Austin Carlile from Mice & Men and the band Metallica. These two stories are a contrast to one another as the first one mentions bad news whereas the other is good, these two stories will attract different types of audiences therefore more people will buy the magazine. A box out is shown above saying “Special Pull-Out Cover!”, this feature is significant as the cover page shown on the right is just a sneak peak and tells the audience that there is more inside once you purchase the magazine making it more interesting
  • 4. MAGAZINE NO.3 This cover page hardly shows the masthead this suggests that since it’s so well known, the masthead doesn’t need to capture attention but it’s the band that’s headlining the magazine that is more recognisable to the audience. There is also a colour theme to the cover page, each colour chosen is significant as it makes the magazine more bright and vivid, so that it’s clear and so that its eye catching. For example, Kerrang! mainly uses colours such as black, yellow and red. These three colours are the main ones that make the calligraphy stand out on the cover page. Red is one of the top two favourite colours, therefore this’ll appeal to the audience. The black and yellow are used to contrast one another so that the font is made to be bold. The top strip features Dave Grohl and by only using the name and not the band which he’s in this creates a personal connection to those who are fans with the Foo Fighters as they know him and the word ‘You’ is underlined this pronoun this suggests the magazine is talking directly to you and no one else, this then tempts you to buy the magazine so that you can have the chance to go to the gig. A freebie is included in the magazine and this another feature that will captivate the audience as they get something for fee. Not to mention, they get 10 posters and this gives them more of a range because if they may not like some of the bands they can have a selection rather than just having one. It also has images so it gives you an insight on how the poster’s going to look like once you purchase it. The main sell line features an issue about the event Valentine’s day as this issue was released during this time and underneath it contains more information. The magazine uses Valentine’s day to relate it to the certain article, using it as a pun. The use of the determiner ‘your’, the magazine directs it the audience to try and make a connection between yourself and the magazine. On the bottom strip it features two celebrities being in competition one another, this’ll capture the audiences attention as they’ll be interested in knowing what the drama is about, there is also the use of exclamation marks to exaggerate the drama.
  • 5. MAGAZINE NO. 4 This cover page again features the main colours that Kerrang! use on most of their magazines, the yellow and black make the font brighter and more eye catching so it’ll be easy for the audience to pay attention to as yellow is a bright colour it’ll capture the audiences eyes and draw them in easier. The mast head has a broken, cracked font, this is relevant to Kerrang! because since they’re based on rock music this gives it the added effect and emphasis on their genre, not to mention the exclamation mark adds to this as rock music is loud and is used as an hyperbole. However, not the whole of the masthead is shown and this could be because the magazine is already well known so that many people wouldn’t need to guess the magazine name. On the top strip it features the band ‘Nirvana’ and this may fascinate audiences even if they’re not that interested in the rock music industry as Nirvana was a famous band known to mostly everyone and people who honoured Nirvana could want to read the tribute made for them. The bottom strip contains two interviews and exclamation marks to exaggerate both articles. The images are used to show both bands so that it gives us a sneak peak of what’s inside the magazine. The freebie is used to persuade the audience into purchasing the magazine as they know you’ll get 6 free posters for free and on the left hand side there are images shown of the free posters so that the audience can see what they’ll be receiving if they do buy it. There is the use of a mid shot on the main image and the singer Jenna Mcdougall is posing, she looks shocked and is holding a bomb, this is significant as Kerrang! Is known for being loud, intense and heavy so this is a similarity to the title. There is the use of box outs to make the band of the title stand out, so that is can easily be read and the font is large so it can be seen easily and underneath there is another use of box out in 3D to make it look like its coming out of the page so that it attracts more attention. The bar code is essential to the magazine as it usually shows what issue it is and without it you wouldn’t be able to purchase the magazine, the bar code also tells the price so this is key as the audience may want to know how much it is.
  • 6. MAGAZINE NO. 5 This cover page uses a certain colour theme just like Kerrang!, they both use the colour red as this is mostly a bold and bright colour. The use of red, suits the main image used for the cover page as the character Katniss Everdeen is also wearing red. Not to mention, they use the colour white and a light nude colour: the nude is mostly used for the sell lines and the white is used for the main sell line. The colour is also fierce and this links in with the main image as they’re promoting the new film ‘The Hunger Games’ which is a film about rebellion. The mast head is behind the main image because it doesn’t have to shown to be known since it’s already a big magazine company and instead of the ‘O’ being a normal letter, its in the style of the Mockingjay pin based on the film they’re promoting. A top and bottom strip is included and the use of images are used to give a hint of what each story is going to be about and what you can see. On the top strip it uses a rhetorical question and then the use of ellipsis to create master then it continues on with the name ‘SUPERGIRL’ in bold font to make it stand out, this indicates what one of the articles will be about since it’s based on sic fi tv shows and films. It also includes more information below so the reader can get a taste of what is inside. The use of white font used for the main sell line makes it stand out behind the red and it’s intentionally made to look like someone spray painted it on. The underlining of ‘is’ is used as an hyperbole to exaggerate the mockingjay film. This makes the audience thrilled to see the film as they wonder what will happen and want to read on to get the exclusive stories. On the bottom strip, there is more information of new tv shows that are being released such as Legend’s of Tomorrow and Twin Peaks which also excited the audience as they may want to see these new shows but first want to know about it. There is an image used shown on the 1/3 of the cover page to give the insider a sneak peak. A pug is used on the bottom right, its an image on BB-8 who is featured in one of the most famous film saga ‘Star Wars’ and this mostly targets fans who are fans of the film as it says there are toys that they ‘need’ to know about. It also uses an exclamation as another method of hyperbole to try and get the fans to get the magazine just to find out the toys you can collect. On the right it then features more information on whats inside that the audience may be interested in so it covers a wide range of fandoms therefore making more profit for the company.
  • 7. MAGAZINE NO. 6 This cover page features the new DC film ‘The Suicide Squad’, they have used a mid shot to show the character the Joker for the new film. This is significant as it shows a certain theme the ‘EMPIRE’ magazine has gone for this month. Since there is a new DC film, they have featured one of them most famous characters and we see a sneak peak of how he looks like for the new film. This may interest a certain audience they’re targeting at, specifically fans of DC Comics or films or anyone who is a film fanatic as it gives us a preview of what he’ll look like, this look is also very different from the past jokers and is more modernised and has a more darker twist to it which might intrigue the viewers more, leaving them to question the new upcoming film. The barcode is seen below the masthead which is important as without this the user wouldn’t be able to purchase the magazine. The masthead is an important feature as it tells us the magazine company and the masthead is covered by the main image this may be because they are mainly focusing on the main image for the cover page and that since the magazine is already well known by the public there’s no need to show it entirely. The top strip features a sneak peak of whats inside the magazine, mentioning one of the most important awards show. This may attract the audience as they may be interest in the oscars and what films are nominated and the reviews of certain films that are nominated. Underneath it then features the list of the films nominated and the user may know these films or not but it may intrigue them since they do feature a review of each one inside they may decide to watch it after reading the magazine. There are no other sell lines on this content page as all the attention is on the new film, the ‘Suicide Squad’ so it emphasises how big the film is going to be. Underneath it says ‘Psychos. Killers. Freaks. Here to save the world’ this gives us an idea of the new film and how it’s different from ordinary superhero films since the roles have been switched and the villains are the one saving the world. This may interest the audience as it’s something different and unique. The colour theme used it green and white and these two colours stand out from the background as it’s a dark purple colour. The green links in with the character the Joker and the white is used so that the font is easily noticed.
  • 8. CONTENTS PAGE NO. 1 On the top left of the contents page, there is an issue number and contents date to inform the reader what issue they have brought so they can see whether they have missed it out or not, this is so they’re updated with the magazine. Again, Kerrang! have used the same colours they normally incorporate in their magazines: red, black and yellow. This is their colour theme so that the audience will easily notice the magazine, these colours make the magazine stand out as red and yellow are bright, bold colours and the black is used as a contrast to the two colours and for box outs. The contents page is organised by the use of subheadings, for example there is a separate section for the main features on the magazine which were shown on the front cover and there is a section on other news that were shown on the bottom strap line. This helps the magazine to be organised so that the audience knows what the sell lines will be about by using subheading to order it. They’ve included certain images to link it to certain pages in the magazine, they mainly use bands that are more famous such as Paramore as the biggest image at the top as they’re the main news for the magazine. On the right hand side, there is a paragraph written by James the editor of Kerrang! introducing himself and talking about the magazine and whats featured inside giving us a basic outline of it, he mentions the band ‘Tonight Alive’ who were on the cover page and then during the end mentions a giveaway which will persuade the audience to participate in this giveaway so that the magazine also interacts with the audience. On the bottom right of the page it mentions who helped create the issue then it mentions a raffle competition for the audience to take park it so that they can interact with them and persuade them to join.
  • 9. CONTENTS PAGE NO. 2 The contents page is double paged which is different as normally its only one so this magazine features more information. At the top and also middle of the double page there are images placed showing the specific pages to indicate what certain articles are about and what it features on. Some of images are bigger than the other suggesting which ones are the main articles. The images also indicate what each one is about and has a mini blurb for additional information. On the bottom half of the double pages you can see that they are organised into categories to show where they go under, this makes it easier for the audience to find each article. They also have information on each one saying what it’s about, this persuades the audience as it leaves them wanting to read on and finding more about the article. The colour theme in the contents page is different to the cover page and instead of it being a nude colour, its changed to the colour black this may because the colour stands out more since its darker colour. However, white and red is still used but only to a certain amount, red is used for the page number and the white is normally used for a contrast. On the right of the second page there is information of the people involved in the company magazine answering a question based on the cover feature ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’, this is used to again promote the film as it’s one of the most anticipated films of 2015. By including this is gives us an introduction to the makers (the team of the company) so the audience can relate to them and have more of an inside of who they are and what they’re like. The image of ‘Supergirl’ is significant as her hand it out of the frame but continues, this gives it a 3D effect as this is one of the main interviews so it indicates it’s importance in the magazine.
  • 10. CONTENTS PAGE NO. 3 This contents page contains a clear title to indicate that it’s the contents page. This is important because without this title or indication then the audience wouldn’t be able to find what each article is about or what page a certain article is. The contents is divided by two subheadings: features and regulars. The features include the ‘Suicide Squad’ film which was on the cover page and on the right there’s an image to show the audience another sneak peak of another character in the film. The films that were seen on the cover page are also in the featured subheading as it says ‘oscars special’ so that it’s clear which films are nominated. The other subheading regular has two images, one is the new show ‘Jessica Jones’ which is a new tv show on Netflix and since Netflix is famous, a lot of the audience will want to read this article to see if its worth the watch. The other image is a famous British actor, Idris Elba and this is significant as many people in the UK may know him so this may influence the user to purchase the magazine. The regulars also include a page on new films out in the cinemas which may interest the user so they can keep updated on whats coming out. Each article has information below to give the user what each one is about and some of them include actor names whom are famous such as Johnny Depp, Will Ferrel, Eddie Redmayne etc. This can influence the user to buy the magazine if they like a certain actor so they may purchase is for this reason. The information below is short as it gives the reader questioning what each article is going to include and what the celebrities or the person being interviewed is going to say. Also, there is reviews done so the person may be interested in reading what peoples opinions are, the rating and the plot line of a certain film or tv show. The colour theme has changed on here as its now black, red and orange. From the previous magazine anaylsis’ black and red are mostly used colours as red makes the font stand out and black is a dark colour so it can be seen clearly.
