1. Question 4
Who would bethe audiencefor your product?
Our film is primarily aimed towardsfemales of all ages, although it is to
be mainly <35 yearsold and they would beof a C2 rating in the social
class. We have chosen this audiencebecause the research in which we
have conducted show that females within this age rangeenjoy watching
both horrorsand thriller/suspense movies. Wethought that if we aimed
the movieat this audienceit would get a lot of viewsbecause they like
watching these types of movies.
This slide showsthat the genres of Thriller/Suspenseis enjoyed being
watched by 53% of peoplewhereas Horror has a percentage of 32%.
This signifies that the horror genre is almost one third of people
compared to that of over half in thriller and suspense. This meansthat
horror is not as popular thoughit is not quite a niche target audienceas
it is still near one third of people. In conclusion to this research and
analysisI have found that the main target audienceis that of females
below the age of 35, despitethe larger proportion of males wantingto
see an increase in ‘edge of seat thrillers’. Therefore I wantmy film
openingto typically appeal moreto the female audienceseeing as this is
the larger primary audiencethough I would liketo see an increase in the
secondary maleaudienceso will therefore make it a balanced film
openingbetween the two genders.
2. Within our research we used the UK Film Councilstats and also Box
Office data to help usestablish the best and most popular audiencefor
our chosen genre. These websites allowed us to determinethe age;
gender and social class of both are primary target audienceand our
secondary target audience, which are men of the age of <35 witha C2
rating for social class.
The rating for our film is a 15 because there are certain aspects that
might notbe appropriatefor youngchildren, such as someaspects of
supernatural, whichcould easily frighten children also there is a bit of
violence which is notappropriatefor the younger generation Within our
film the fact the main character kills himself would need to be taken into
consideration as it could be upsetting for the audienceand so we
needed to make surethat it wasn’ttoo explicit, so it is acceptable for the
target audience. Also the fact that there are two other horrific deaths
within the movie, this is of the wifeand the daughter of the main
character, we need to make sure it is not too gory because our target
audiencespecified that they did not wanta large amountgore. The film
does notcontain a large amountof bad language which would be
inappropriateto people of the age of 15.
Our film is more likely to be released in a smaller cinema, although the
genre horror is one of the mostpopular genresout there, the sub-genre,
Psychological, is only suited to some people’spreference. Butour movie
could also be released in some bigger chain cinemas. In doingso this
would tempta large rangeof social group/classesand genders, but it
would also focus upon or target audiencedueto the variety of cinemas
our film would beplayed in. Doing this would also ensurethat the film
would be greatly accessible to a larger audience which means a bigger
revenue.
Profile– Target Audience
Music
Alice enjoysa variety of differentstylesof music. Firstly she enjoys
listening to U2, this is probably because of the influenceof her parents
who also listen to U2. She also likes music that is currently in the charts,
such as Ariana Grande. In filmsAlice enjoysthe very upbeatmusic, this
is not style of musicwe are wantingbecause it will not fit in with a
horror very well. Alice dislikes heavy metal musicbecause it is too loud
and it “gives her a head ache”.
3. TV
Her favouriteTV show is at the moment‘Pretty Little Liars’ because she
likes shows to do with girls and also it makes her think about who has
donewhat duringthe programme, she basically likes mysteriousTV
shows. She also enjoyswatching the 'WalkingDead' becauseshe enjoys
the thrill of the zombies. On the other hand she is not keen on reality TV
shows such as X Factor because it is the same every year and it get really
boring and predictable. This information is helpfulfor usebecause it
allows useto understand thather age group enjoy watching mysterious
TV shows which makes them think.
Films
One of Alice’s favouritemoviesis ‘The Hobbit’, because she like
watching movies that are filled with action and also she like to useher
imagination in make believe movies. Other movies that she likes are
‘War Horse’ and ‘GoodnightMr Tom’. She likes these moviesbecause
they are to do with World Warsand she is fascinated in that topic.
Alice’s favouritehorror film is ‘The Women in Black’ because she likes
the jumpy feelingand also the reaction in which other peoplehave
when they watch the movie. Alice really likes the story line for this
moviebecause she said it is fullof enigmaand tension which makesher
wantto carry one watching the movie. Alice does not like horror movies
that contain a large amountof blood because she doesn’t like bloody all
that much along with her friends. This information was usefulto me
because I found outwhat her age group enjoy in horror moviesand
what they dislikeabout horror movies, which allowsuse to make some
key decisions when storyboarding.
Social Media
Alice does not usea large amountof social mediadueto her age, but she
does useInstagram and Youtubebecause she is very nosy and she is
very interested in what other peopleare doing, she likes to keep up to
date. The Youtuber she enjoyswatching is Zoella, who doesa lot of
vlogging, in the vlogs she talks about a lot of Alice’s interests, such as
shopping, clothes and makeup (Girly Stuff)
Other Interests
4. Alice has a lot of other interests, such as shopping, makeup and fashion,
because she is curiousof her appearance, she likes to fit in and keep up
with what her friendsare doing. Other interests she has are sports; she
enjoysto run a lot and likes to play Netball because she likes to keep fit
and is self-aware of her body image.
In conclusion I do believe Alice’s information washelpfulfor the group.
Firstly because she informed uswhatsub-genre of horror moviesshe
liked and doesn’tlike. Which is particularly usefulbecauseshe is in the
age group of our target audience.
Wehave decided to aim our productat both males and females under
the age of 35 and being within the middleclass for their social class. We
have chosen this audiencedueto the UK Film Councildata and dueto us
being very ardentabout the genre so we are therefore able to makeit
suitable for the target audience.
