Film production companies that specialize in horror films, like Lionsgate Films and Hammer Films, would be best suited to distribute the media product. These companies have experience and focus on the horror genre, understanding how to efficiently produce and distribute horror films. While larger companies may provide a wider initial audience, there is no guarantee they would fully exploit the film's potential. Independent horror film companies would give the media product attention and focus to help ensure its success, even if it means starting with a smaller audience.

1. What kind of Media Institutions might
distribute your media product and why?
Primarily, the media institution necessary to distribute our media product would be
film production companies, namely ones involved with horror films. There are
many companies such as this out there, including 'big' names such as 20th Century
Fox, DreamWorks, Universal Studios and Paramount. In terms of horror films,
probably the biggest one I found specializing in horror films was Lionsgate Films,
with films like the Saw franchise and a sub-studio dedicated solely to horror films.

2. In addition to Lionsgate, I also found a British company who exclusively make horror films
called Hammer films, who've distributed films such as The Woman in Black and Let Me In.
Although Hammer Films may be smaller than the aforementioned well known companies, the
exclusively produce horror films, which could mean more effort and dedication is spent on each
film.
This is in contrast to big companies, which don't concentrate solely on the genre of horror and
may not know how to produce and distribute the films as efficiently. In my opinion, Hammer
Films would be an ideal production company to work with as they specialise in British horror.
They have a track record of turning below-average budget films like The Woman In Black into
massive money-spinners. As Hammer Films typically work with low-budget films, it gives our
film a chance to be a big commercial success, following in the path of other horror films with
shoestring budgets like Paranormal Activity, The Blair Witch Project and Insidious.

3. An independent company would probably be better suited to our movie also, for similar
reasons. A conglomerate such as Disney will have a lot of different avenues and projects to
focus on, which may lead our film to be neglected and potentially wasted. If we go with an
independent production company, more focus will be on our film to make sure it reaches it's
full potential, and our chances of success will hopefully increase. However, as we maybe
haven't gone with a big name company, some notoriety will probably be missing, and our
initial audience may not be as big.

4. As said earlier, a production company specialising in horror films would obviously be
beneficial, due to their experience in the field. Although a big company like Universal or
Fox may grant us a wider initial audience due to the companies notoriety, there's no
guarantee they would exploit our film to it's full potential and could end up failing with it.
With a tried-and-tested horror movie company, they will know exactly how to distribute
horrors (what specific audience to target, what to show in the trailer etc.) which will give
us an immediate foothold and doesn't rule out the chance for the film to become massive.
