Film Certificate Research 
The film certificate we have chosen for our film is a 15 
rating we have chosen this because in our institution research for 
horrors it showed us that horror films make the most money, sell the 
most tickets, if their rating is a 15. This is because teenagers are the 
ones who most like to watch horror films. 15 rating films allow for a 
certain amount of liquidity in the production but not as much as an 
18 rating. 
15 ratings can include a mild form of: 
 Strong violence 
 Frequent strong language (e.g. 'f***'). 
 Portrayals of sexual activity 
 Strong verbal references to sex 
 Sexual nudity 
 Brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual 
violence 
 Discriminatory language or behaviour 
 Drug taking 
However 18 ratings can include: 
 Very strong violence 
 Frequent strong language (e.g. 'f***') and / or very strong 
language (e.g. ‘c***’) 
 Strong portrayals of sexual activity 
 Scenes of sexual violence 
 Strong horror 
 Strong blood and gore 
 Real sex (in some circumstances) 
 Discriminatory language and behaviour 
18 ratings allow for stronger more mature content as they are aimed 
at adults and not teenagers and they therefore will want to view 
content available for their age range. 
On the other hand, 12 ratings don’t allow for a lot of typical things 
that horror films generally have in their movies. As they are aimed at 
younger audiences, they may not enjoy the graphic nature of horror 
films and may even get scared or disgusted by the content in the 
films.
