This document discusses potential media institutions to distribute an independent thriller film and analyzes the pros and cons of each. It recommends Studiocanal as the best choice. Studiocanal is well-established across Europe distributing over 50 films annually and has experience with thriller genres. While Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox are very large, they were deemed not the best fit due to high costs and focus on different genres. Warp Films was ruled out for being too small to adequately distribute the film.

2. StudioCanal.
• Studio Canal was established in May 1999.
• Studiocanal theatrical UK has established a reputation for an innovative
approach to distribution.
• It's a subsidiary of the Canal + Group.
• It's one of Europe's leading companies in the market for co-production,
distribution, acquisition and sale of international feature films.
• It is the only studio operation simultaneously in three main places across
Europe; Germany, France and the UK.
• Throughout Europe, the company distribute more than 50 films a year.
• They have distributed many well known films, such as Paddington, 71,
Imitation Game, Serena, and Before I Go To Sleep.
• Although Studiocanal have distributed many family friendly films, such as
Paddington, it's also essential to remember that they have distributed
many successful thrillers, such as 71 and Wolf.

3. Warner Bros.
 Warner Bros. is a global company, however its main headquarters are in
California and New York. It operates offices in more than 30 countries and
releases films in over 120 territories internationally.
 It's a broad-based entertainment company and a global leader in the creation,
production, distribution, licensing and marketing of all types of entertainment.
 Warner Bros. has previously distributed extremely well known films, including, Horrible Bosses
2, Into the Storm and The Lego Movie. As well as the Harry Potter collection.
 They attract a wide range of audiences, due to the variety of films they distribute targeting
different people. They distribute films from the comedy genre to the thriller and horror genre,
suggesting to us that they're target audience is dependent upon what film they're distributing,
and that they're extremely well known around the globe.
 Warner Bros. have distributed many well known thrillers, including Inception, The Dark Night
Rises and The Matrix.

4. 20th Century Fox.
 20th Century Fox was founded on May 31st, 1935.
 20th Century Fox is a subsidiary of 21st Century Fox.
 Its headquarters are in Los Angeles, California, USA.
 The highest grossing films that 20th Century Fox have distributed include Avatar,
Titanic, Star Wars and Home Alone. From this, it connotes that they mainly
distribute comedy and family friendly films, implying that this may not be the
best distributor to use, as it may attract the wrong audience for our thriller.
 With this in mind however, it has produced a few thriller's such as The Maze
Runner and X-Men, therefore suggesting that this institute may be able to
distribute our thriller.
 Their target market is huge due to the fact they are also a distributer of TV shows
such as Glee and The Simpsons, showing they have a wide variety of audiences.

5. Warp Films.
 Warp Films is an independent UK film and television production
company. It has an affiliated company in Melbourne, Australia;
however, it's based in Sheffield and London in the UK.
 It was established in 2002, and is one of the most respected and
successful independent companies working today.
 Regardless of small budgets, many of its film have been critically
acclaimed and are award winning, such as 71, which was shown in
both the UK and USA due to the actor Jack O'Connell starring as the
main character.
 Many of Warp Films productions are thriller films, and therefore it would
be suitable to choose this institute as our distributor for our thriller.

6. Deciding which institute we would
choose to distribute our film.
When deciding which institute to use to distribute our film, we took many
things into consideration. We discussed it during planning, and we
decided to use Studiocanal.
Out of the four distributors we chose, we decided almost immediately
after researching them, that 20th Century Fox wouldn't be the most
suitable choice, due to them mainly producing Comedy and Family films.
We feel this would limit our audience, and would not be able to attract
out target audience as easily or successfully if we chose this institute.
We felt that Warner Bros. was too large to distribute such a small film, such
as ours, and therefore we feel again, we wouldn't attract a strong enough
audience. However, due to Warner Bros. being a global company,
distributing films around the world, it would probably be able to use the
right marketing strategy in order to gain the right target audience. This
would cost too much, and therefore our profit wouldn't be worth it.
On the other side of the scale, when considering Warp Films as our
distributor, we found that this institute was too small to distribute our film.
We feel that because Warp Films is an independent company, we
wouldn't attract a large enough audience again, and our film would
mainly be limited to British theatres. This then restricted us from gaining the
