3) What kind of media
institution might distribute
your media product and
why?
Hammer
 Hammer is a British independent production company that was founded in 1934
in London. Although best known for a series of gothic/horror films, it also
produces science fiction, thrillers, film noir and comedies as well as a few
television series. During its prominent years, it dominated the horror genre with
the help of its US distribution partner, Warner Bros. They also made a series of
‘mini-Hitchcocks’ which were low-budget black and white films that were
compared to ‘Psycho’ because of their plot twisting endings. They have created
some iconic independent films that represent the thriller genre really well and
being well known for making films that are filled with tension and suspense
which would meet our ideal needs for a media institution that we would want to
produce our product with.
 A film distribution company is responsible for the marketing of a film. They are
able to set the release date and the method through which the film will be
exhibited and made available for audience viewing. This would be useful to me
because we would need a company that would be able to circulate our media
product amongst our ideal target audience, using a suitable method that would
allow them to access our product. I researched a variety of distributors that would
be suitable for my film including; Kaleidoscope film distribution and New Line
Cinema.
 I decided that Kaleidoscope would be the most suited company to distribute my
film. This is because it is mostly associated with thriller distribution which is
appropriate for the genre that I would want to distribute. It is also one of the
fastest growing independent film distributors that are associated with thrillers.
They are a company that work with various people including; producers, directors,
writers etc. The company wants new and innovative ideas which would make them
very beneficial to the thriller genre as they would be willing to evaluate new ideas.
