Evaluation question 2
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
Making sure that all three of my products linked together was a very important task as it makes the final
products look much more professional as making theme all look similar in some way makes them more
recognisable to the viewer. The main product and the ancillary task that I made all look professional and
unique. This is due to the continuity that the products all share with each other. The dark colour scheme
that I have used in my product work well with the other ancillary tasks as the look is continued over and
makes the products look complete. The dark colour scheme that all of the products uses are very good as
it not only matches each other but also match the look of the actual music video. This helps to create a
very professional and overall appealing look to the products as the viewer can instantly recognise the
products and can know that they are related to each other in some way. This is largely due to the similarity
in the design of the product and the way that I have produced them. The products also link to my music
video as they all share a similar theme and this is of darkness.
Main Product
From the music video I created it is clear to see that the main theme
and motifs of the video is that of darkness. Throughout my music video
is created a dark them using various editing methods using both black
and white to create a very dark looking theme. The only time colour is
used in my music video is once and this is the colour yellow. Overall the
only colours used in the music video are black, white and yellow. Overall
the main motif of the music video is darkness and this is what I used in
both my main product (The music video) and the ancillary task (Digipak
and Advert). The sense of brand identity is very clear in the products
that I have created the products all share a very similar looking theme
of black, white and yellow. The viewers can easily tell that all of these
products are related by the colour scheme. Overall the products are
very clear and the viewers can easily tell that these products are related
to each other due to the themes.
Ancillary Tasks

The use of effective combination of the overall theme, look and motif is very important when it comes to
producing these products. My above products look very good for the reason of it looks good as all three products
share a similar theme. When someone looks at my main product and my ancillary task they can instantly
recognise the three products as they look the same. They all share something similar and this is appealing to the
audience as they can look at the products and feel like they enjoy them. This is important as if all three of my
products were completely different and had completely different looks the viewers would not be as attracted to
the look of the products as it would not be as appealing for them to view. My main product has a dark theme to
match the song and overall creates a good feel. If I then made my ancillary products really bright and happy this
would contradict the theme of the song and would make it so the viewers were less appealed by the product and
would be more likely to be displeased with the product.

and the font colours as these
are the same and have not
changed . The overall black
and white theme to the
product also greatly links
them together as they both
share something similar as
the overall theme is the
same in both products.
The overall layout of my products all shared one basic style for my products they all had a dark black and white house style of layout. My
ancillary texts all shared a similar layout and presentation method. The first notable thing is the use of the same text throughout to create
continuity in the products I have made. The use of the same text makes it so that the products are similar and that the viewer can easily
tell that they are for the same product. When a person sees this product they can tell that they are all for the same thing as the text is the
same and the style remains. The overall house style makes it so my products work well with each other. Another thing that is part of my
house style is the overall dark look to the product most of my products all share a dark overall theme with the main colours being black
and white with yellow being the accent. These colours and accents pass over through all of the products as this is the colour scheme of my
product.
When creating the products I wanted to have one singular theme to match the song. This theme would be used in all three of the products.
The theme I went with is darkness and I took inspiration from a few different sources. The main source of inspirations the original video for
the song of my choosing. In Disturbed music video for Sound Of Silence they went with a theme of darkness and slow pace I wanted to
recreate this within my music video as the theme of a slow dark paced song was interesting to me and I wanted to do something similar to
this in my own work. Originally I did not decide to make my music video black and white rather use slow editing as some of my shots were
very nice looking (mainly the ones of the beach) and I did not want to remove this from the video. However I was influenced by the work of
disturbed and a few other Rock based music video and decided that this would work well with my music video. When taking images for the
digipak I made sure that a lot of them were close ups and were up close personal and that the viewer could see as much detail as possible.
This helps link the digipak to the genre of my song. The genre of rock tends to use a lot of close up camera angles to emphasise the emotions
of the people who are involved in the song. Using a close up in my digipak helps to show the emotion of the person singing the song. Using
these types of images links to the genre of rock and helps to show the viewers that this is part of the rock genre. This also links to my music
video which uses a lot of close ups which again links to the overall theme and house style of my products.

took a lot of inspiration for
the design from this video.
Brand Identity in my products
In my products I have strong brand identity but could be made
stronger by doing a few things some of these may include making
the overall layout of the products more consistent so that the
digipak and magazine advert all look similar in layout. My products
while they do look similarly there is differences in the two products
and some examples of these are the background of the product the
background of my music video is mainly a black backdrop in the
studio, The background of my Advert is also this colour however
when it came to my digipak I decided to make some adjustments
and added some effects to the product to make a more professional
looking product and to make it more interesting for the viewer while
this did work as it made the product look more professional and
overall made the product much better it did slightly weaken the
brand identity as it is something that is different from the other two
products therefore it has made it so that it looks different from my
other products and has weakened my brand identity and this is
what I could have improved

  • 1. Evaluation question 2 How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? Making sure that all three of my products linked together was a very important task as it makes the final products look much more professional as making theme all look similar in some way makes them more recognisable to the viewer. The main product and the ancillary task that I made all look professional and unique. This is due to the continuity that the products all share with each other. The dark colour scheme that I have used in my product work well with the other ancillary tasks as the look is continued over and makes the products look complete. The dark colour scheme that all of the products uses are very good as it not only matches each other but also match the look of the actual music video. This helps to create a very professional and overall appealing look to the products as the viewer can instantly recognise the products and can know that they are related to each other in some way. This is largely due to the similarity in the design of the product and the way that I have produced them. The products also link to my music video as they all share a similar theme and this is of darkness. Main Product
  • 2. From the music video I created it is clear to see that the main theme and motifs of the video is that of darkness. Throughout my music video is created a dark them using various editing methods using both black and white to create a very dark looking theme. The only time colour is used in my music video is once and this is the colour yellow. Overall the only colours used in the music video are black, white and yellow. Overall the main motif of the music video is darkness and this is what I used in both my main product (The music video) and the ancillary task (Digipak and Advert). The sense of brand identity is very clear in the products that I have created the products all share a very similar looking theme of black, white and yellow. The viewers can easily tell that all of these products are related by the colour scheme. Overall the products are very clear and the viewers can easily tell that these products are related to each other due to the themes.   • 3. The use of effective combination of the overall theme, look and motif is very important when it comes to producing these products. My above products look very good for the reason of it looks good as all three products share a similar theme. When someone looks at my main product and my ancillary task they can instantly recognise the three products as they look the same. They all share something similar and this is appealing to the audience as they can look at the products and feel like they enjoy them. This is important as if all three of my products were completely different and had completely different looks the viewers would not be as attracted to the look of the products as it would not be as appealing for them to view. My main product has a dark theme to match the song and overall creates a good feel. If I then made my ancillary products really bright and happy this would contradict the theme of the song and would make it so the viewers were less appealed by the product and would be more likely to be displeased with the product. The two products share a similar theme and look similar due to various reasons one being the font and the font colours as these are the same and have not changed . The overall black and white theme to the product also greatly links them together as they both share something similar as the overall theme is the same in both products.
  • 4. The overall layout of my products all shared one basic style for my products they all had a dark black and white house style of layout. My ancillary texts all shared a similar layout and presentation method. The first notable thing is the use of the same text throughout to create continuity in the products I have made. The use of the same text makes it so that the products are similar and that the viewer can easily tell that they are for the same product. When a person sees this product they can tell that they are all for the same thing as the text is the same and the style remains. The overall house style makes it so my products work well with each other. Another thing that is part of my house style is the overall dark look to the product most of my products all share a dark overall theme with the main colours being black and white with yellow being the accent. These colours and accents pass over through all of the products as this is the colour scheme of my product. When creating the products I wanted to have one singular theme to match the song. This theme would be used in all three of the products. The theme I went with is darkness and I took inspiration from a few different sources. The main source of inspirations the original video for the song of my choosing. In Disturbed music video for Sound Of Silence they went with a theme of darkness and slow pace I wanted to recreate this within my music video as the theme of a slow dark paced song was interesting to me and I wanted to do something similar to this in my own work. Originally I did not decide to make my music video black and white rather use slow editing as some of my shots were very nice looking (mainly the ones of the beach) and I did not want to remove this from the video. However I was influenced by the work of disturbed and a few other Rock based music video and decided that this would work well with my music video. When taking images for the digipak I made sure that a lot of them were close ups and were up close personal and that the viewer could see as much detail as possible. This helps link the digipak to the genre of my song. The genre of rock tends to use a lot of close up camera angles to emphasise the emotions of the people who are involved in the song. Using a close up in my digipak helps to show the emotion of the person singing the song. Using these types of images links to the genre of rock and helps to show the viewers that this is part of the rock genre. This also links to my music video which uses a lot of close ups which again links to the overall theme and house style of my products. Disturbed - Sound of silence My Product - Sound of silence I took a lot of inspiration for the overall theme of my video from a lot of different sources. However the one that my video relates to the most is the original music video from disturbed as I took a lot of inspiration for the design from this video.
  • 5. Brand Identity in my products In my products I have strong brand identity but could be made stronger by doing a few things some of these may include making the overall layout of the products more consistent so that the digipak and magazine advert all look similar in layout. My products while they do look similarly there is differences in the two products and some examples of these are the background of the product the background of my music video is mainly a black backdrop in the studio, The background of my Advert is also this colour however when it came to my digipak I decided to make some adjustments and added some effects to the product to make a more professional looking product and to make it more interesting for the viewer while this did work as it made the product look more professional and overall made the product much better it did slightly weaken the brand identity as it is something that is different from the other two products therefore it has made it so that it looks different from my other products and has weakened my brand identity and this is what I could have improved
