Question 2:
How does your media product represent particular
social groups?
My magazine has the genre pop/rock, which attracts more teenagers than
adults. The look of my magazine makes it clear that my magazine represent
teenagers and young adults, and it attracts females.
The artists I chose to write about in my magazine, are most likely known by all
teenagers in todays society, which makes my magazine more attractive to them
and it makes them want to read it.
I chose to set the price of my magazine to £2,99. This price attracts students
and teenagers with and without a job, because it is a very affordable price.
The models in my magazine represent teenagers and young adults in the same age
group as my readers. By using models in the same age group as my readers, makes my
audience want to buy the magazine, because they can relate to the artists and easily
connect to some of the things the artist is talking about.
The model on my front cover is dresses like a
normal teenager, she is wearing the latest fashion
and she does not have to much makeup on. Her
friendly and natural smile/smirk to the audience
gives a sort of ”relationship” between her and the
audience. She does not think she is better than
anyone, which is important because I want to attract
teenagers. There is always a competition between
teenagers in todays society about who has the best
clothes, best makeup and who is the thinnest.
My front cover model can be a role model to the girls who read my magazine.
Magazines tend to edit their photos a lot, and make their models prettier and
thinner, which has a bed influence on the readers. The only thing that I have fixed in
my photo, is the lightning. I wanted my model to be as real as possible, to set a
good example to other girls.
The colours I have chosen to use in my magazine are white, black, gray and dark pink.
These colours makes my magazine look clean and neat, but at the same time not to
boring. The magazine gets a more female look, because I chose to use a dark pink
colours, and it also represents teenage girls.
The font I have used, is also very clean and elegant, and it makes my text easy to read.
The elegant font attracts females and teenage girls to my magazine.
My magazine is aimed to middle class people, and this is represented through the
celebrities I chose to use. The people is my magazine are stereotypical hardworking
celebrities that started from the bottom and worked hard to get where they are now. I
want my reader to relate and make a connection with the people in my magazine.
The price of my magazine also represent middle class
people, because it is an affordable price and you don’t have
to be very wealthy to be able to buy my magazine.
The only ethnic group that is represented in my
magazine are whites, so they are dominant. This is
only because most of my friends are white.
