• The font I want to use on the masthead of my music magazine,
has to be elegant, clean and neat.
• The masthead has to appeal to young adults, so it can not be to
childish. However, the masthead must not be to “old” looking,
because, after looking at my research, my youngest readers will
most likely be 16 years old.
• On the next page, are some examples of font that I like, with
some comments about what I think about the fonts.

font suites my target audience
really well. It is not to childish,
but at the same time does it
appeal to young people.

5. Colour schemes
• After looking at my audience research, my music magazine is going to be a
female related magazine, because 77% of the people answering my survey
were girls.
• The colours I want to use are therefore female related, so I was thinking
more pink or purple colours. However, after looking at my research, other
music magazines use natural colours. So I have to be careful that my
magazine does not get to unprofessional by using to many bright colours.

8. For my first draft of my music magazine, I decided to
draw four potential front covers, four potential content
pages and four potential double spread pages.

9. Front cover 1:
This front cover is divided into three columns, and it has a
band/group as the main picture placed in the middle
column.
The masthead, “Heartbeat” is very eye-catching due to
music notes used instead of T’s. The colourful and bold
and “B” also makes this masthead stand more out.
I have chosen to put no other pictures on this front cover,
because of the busy masthead and main picture.
The “blue star” plug, is there to inform the reader of
something exciting that is inside the magazine.
Front cover 2:
This front cover is divided into two columns, and the
main picture of a artist is a taking up the whole of the
right hand column. This lets the reader see the whole
artist, and really take in everything about him/her.
By using a more clean and “calm” masthead, makes it
possible to put more than one picture on the front cover.
I have also drawn a bottom strip, where the reader can
see which freebies/posters are inside the magazine.

10. Front cover 3:
This front cover is divided into three columns, and it also has
main artist in the main picture placed in the middle column. The
model has a guitar in her hands, which draws attention to the
magazine, because she is using props.
The “purple star” plug is there to grab the readers attention,
to inform the reader about something special that is inside the
magazine: exclusive interview or freebies for example.
This front cover also has two small pictures on the sides. This is
make the cover lines more interesting and to make the reader
more interested in looking further into the magazine.
Front cover 4:
This front cover divided into two columns, and it has one main
artist in the main picture taking up the whole left hand column.
The picture is a medium shot. This makes it easier for the reader
to look at the artists face and to grab the readers attention.
There is another picture connected to the cover lines, to make
them more interesting and to make the reader want to look
further into the magazine.
This front cover a simple, but by using a simple outline, there is
more room for bright colours.

11. Content page 1:
This content page has three images, where one is a bit
bigger than the two others. The bigger picture is going to
draw more attention to it, so I will have to put a interesting
and important picture here.
The masthead is in the middle of the page, and it is not in
any particular font. By using calm and clean fonts and
pictures, makes it possible to use bright and many colours.
This content page is divided into two horizontal columns.
Content page 2:
This content page is divided into three horizontal columns.
The two upper columns contains one picture and text, and
the lower column only contain three pictures. By using
many pictures on a content page, lets the reader see what
is inside the magazine, and it makes them want to read
more.
The bottom strip is eye catching not only because of the
three pictures, but also because I have put page numbers
on each picture. This makes it easy for the reader to find
the page they want to read first.

12. Content page 3:
This content page is divided into two very visible columns.
That makes the page look more sophisticated and more
organized.
All the pictures are placed in the right hand column, and all
the text is placed in the left hand column. This makes it very
easy for the reader to find out what's inside the magazine
and it also makes it very easy to find the article or interview
that the reader is most interested in, because everything is
placed in one place.
Content page 4:
This content page is also divided into two columns.
The star plug grabs the readers attention as they open this
page, so what I decided to pun in there must be something
interesting and important for the readers.
The pictures are placed on the bottom of the page, to make
the audience focus on the text rather then the pictures.
Because this page only has two pictures I have to be very
smart on which images I decide to place there. They have
to me eye catching and the have to make the audience
want to read more.

13. Double spread page 1:
This double spread page is divided into two
columns on each page. This makes the article
to read.
In the right hand corner on the right hand page, I
am going to place a quote. This makes the
audience more connected to the artist and it
makes the article “funnier” and more interesting
read.
Double spread page 2:
This double spread page is also divided into two
columns on each side, which again makes it easy
to read the article or interview.
This layout has a big picture on the left hand
page, which is going to be very eye catching.
There is also a quote in the right hand corner on
the right hand page, with a connecting picture
underneath it. The last picture is placed in the left
bottom corner on the right hand page.
The pictures and text are evenly spread out, and
easy to look at/read.

14. Double spread page 3:
This double spread page is divided into two
columns on each side. This makes it easy to
read this article , and it makes the page look
organised. There are only three pictures on
these two pages, so I will have to choose
pictures wisely. The images have to represent
and reflect the artist.
Double spread page 4:
This double spread page is also divided into
two columns on each side, which again makes
this page look organized.
There is one big picture on the left page, and
this image is very eye catching. I have to place
the “best” picture here, so that the reader
wants to read the article.

15. For my second draft of my music magazine, I
decided to make one potential front cover, one
potential content page and one potential
double spread page in “InDesign”.
I am doing this to make my ideas more visual
and more “real” before I decide which draft I
am going to use in my magazine.

16. I have chosen to make front cover
2 in InDesign to see how it would
look in real life.
I really like this draft of this front
cover. I like the blocking of the
cover lines and the main picture.
It makes this front cover look very
realistic, clean and modern.
The only thing I am not sure about
is if the bottom strip fits my reader
audience. Looking back at my
research, my audience are
between 16 and 24, and I don’t
know if they are so interested in
posters anymore.
I will maybe replace the posters,
with pictures of what they can
read inside the magazine.

17. I have decided to make
content page 2 in InDesign.
This content page is very
well-presented and very
easy to “understand”, which
is why I like it so much.
It has three pictures and
each picture has a page
number connected to it. This
makes it very easy for the
reader to find the page they
are most interested in
reading.

18. For my double spread
page, I have decided
to make number 1 in
InDesign.
This is a really neat
and clean layout which
makes it relaxing to
look at and to read the
page.
The quote is eye
catching and it
connects the reader a
bit more with the artist.
I will have to take three
pictures that in some
way are connected to
each other. The
images need to reflex
the artist in a good
way.
