1. QUESTION 1.In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions or real media products?

2. All music videos follow or use a mixture of different types of music video; Narrative,
Abstract and Performance. After looking at other music videos and listening to my song
over and over I decided to use performance as my main style for my music video and an
element of narrative. Which is popular for most pop/indie music videos.
At the beginning of the course we looked at
Goodwin’s Theory of Six. Looking back I have
used many of there theories without even
realising:
• ‘Music Demonstrates genre characteristics’
I showed this theory through most pop/easy
listening songs are a crossover of performance
and narrative.
• ‘There is a relationship between lyrics and
visuals’
The way in which I mainly used this theory in
my music video was obviously by my artist
miming the song. Also I feel my video was
heavily a performance video as when certain
lyrics was said for example ‘You said I must eat
so many lemon’s...’ she threw a lemon at him.
Another example of this is on the line ‘You’ve
gone and go sick on my trainers...’ she holds a
pair of trainers up at him.

3. • ‘There is a relationship between music and
visuals’
I have used this theory a lot to fill the parts of the
song with no lyrics. For example there are strong
beats in the music so I got my performer to look at
the camera on the beats or look at my other
performer to create tension.
• ‘The demands of the record label will include the
need for lots of close-ups of the artist and the
artist may create a motif which reoccur across
their work’
I used this theory a lot in my music video, using a
lot of close up’s to involve the audience into the
video and almost as if the song is aimed at them so
they can relate to it. I used extreme close ups on
the artist lips when she said the word ‘fitter’ this
was to see the attitude from the artist.
•‘There is frequent reference to notion of looking
and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the
female body’
I used this theory slightly as I did have shots of the
artist looking into the camera when singing certain
lines to get the impression she is singing to you.
But this is all I feel I did on this theory.
•‘There is often intersexual reference’
This is the only theory of Goodwin’s Theory of Six I
feel I didn’t use.
