Music Video Analysis
Comment on the following aspects in relation to your music video choice. Goyte – Somebody That I Used To Know
How will these techniques appeal to the target audience needs?
Target Audience &
needs The target audience for this music video is first of all and which is very clear fans of Goyte and his music. This song im sure did
reach the top 10 when it was most popular back in the day, it was also played on the radio so because of this the target audience
would be vary with lots of people. The age range I would think for this type of music and video would be about 16-50. I chose that
age range because the song is quite slow and I didn’t think kids would listen to music with that kind of tempo now a days and also
because it has lyrical meaning and most kids that age and like myself for example would understand. I also chose 50 because I
think that’s the type much that age listen too.
Lyrics Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it's an ache I still remember..
Tempo The tempo of the song is the same throughout except when it comes to the chorus which is more powerful and catchy then the
rest of the song, this is the same for most songs. The tempo is like a soft slow beat during the verses and then kicks in when it
comes to the middle of the song.
Genre The genre of this music and video is a mixture of indie and alternative, this meaning that the music isn’t as popular as pop or hip
hop for example because they have bigger audiences because that sort of music is mostly in the charts.
Camera Technique Camera techniques used in this music video and very slow and simple. A slow pan down to up was used at the beginning as the
music started to play. Throught the video long and short shots are used giving the video a range of shots which make it work really
well. Extreme close ups are used along the body to show detail of what was happening in the video, this was done when the body
was being painted.
Editing When it comes to editing like I said for other videos it’s really just different cuts, because the song is quite slow the video doesn’t
have very many cuts and clips it’s just a few simples cuts here and there.
Music Video Analysis
Use of digital effects There was a bit of digital effects used in this video, it wasn’t drastic when it come to it but there was a fair bit of it donw within the
video.
