The focus group interview provided valuable feedback for creating an indie rock music video. Participants liked the variety of indie rock styles and favored The Killers as their favorite band. They enjoyed music videos that told a story behind the song and provided insight into the band. Participants also preferred videos that included a musical performance. Finally, a music video for "Somebody Told Me" by The Killers would appeal to the interviewee as long as it featured a big performance and storyline connecting to the lyrics.

3. What they like about indie rock…
• The participant mentioned that he liked
the range of bands and all the different
styles and lifestyles that the band portray
to their audiences. This means that when
creating the music video ourselves, we
will have to create a unique style which
represents the indie rock genre, but also
portrays our own style. He also
mentioned that his favourite band was
‘The Killers’. This seemed to be the case
for most of the people who took the
survey, thus meaning we will be most
likely using one of their songs for our
music video.

4. Do they like watching music videos? Why?
• The participant mentioned that he liked
watching music video’s because it connotes the
story behind the song and gives the audience a
sense of awareness of what the band are like.
This will help us in making our video because
we will now link the story to the song in order
to draw attention from the audience. Also, when
creating the video, we will portray an attitude,
thus meaning the audience will get an idea of
what we (the band) are like. He also mentioned
that he likes videos that have a performance.
This will entice us to have a performance
included into our music video, because it would
be more appealing to our target audience. Props
will be included in this performance, such as
guitars, drums, microphones etc.

5. Do they buy albums? What album artwork do they like?
• The participant answered ‘very rarely’, this
could be due to the current interactive use
of music, such as YouTube. He also
mentioned that he likes the album artwork
to represent the bands style and to be
linked to the title. His example of this was
‘Only by the night’ by the ‘Kings of Leon’.
I used this album for my similar products
research and found this album very
effective and appealing. Therefore, I will
use the unique style and angle that album
has used to create my album. This should
mean that my album will connote the bands
style, together with linking to the album
title. By doing this, I will hopefully attract
more attention from my target audience.

6. Would a music video of ‘Somebody Told Me’ by ‘The Killers’ appeal to you?
• The participant mentioned here
that it would appeal to him as
long as there was a big
performance and a storyline
which links to the song. This
response works well with the
idea’s that I have for the music
video. This is because the main
idea for the music video is to
have a big performance on a
stage, with cut-away scenes
which link to the song and
lyrics.
