3. Describe the settings both location / studio including colours / design etc
In the music video Move Along, there are a lot of different settings due to the
meaning of the song. It’s set in American in with different scenes to show the fact
that it applies to everyone. There’s scenes where he’s a Jock, an office worker, in
prison, caught by the police, at home alone, with his girlfriend, with his band, in the
crowd, a doctor, in a waiting room and just stood outside. Most of the colours in the
music video are very bright, reds, yellow, and blues appear the most. The design is
not too much due to the fact it’s all mid shot changes, so it’s quite simplistic, its more
his dress sense that links to the song rather than the background scenery.

The person throughout the video is the main singer from the band All American
Rejects, he’s called Tyson Ritter, he plays the main part throughout until right at the
end when each band member appears before the closing scenes when they’re all
playing together. The clothing throughout changes due to the fact its showing the
different situations and the different characteristics of a person and the different
people it can affect.
Tyson doesn’t stay in one change of clothes it changes, so you can’t really tell his
personality as he’s portraying other people, he’s central throughout the video
showing his importance in the band, because he’s the vocalist, therefore seen as the
‘leader’
What was the video about? Did it link to the lyrical content?
The video and the song together are speaking to the public. I think most people, or at
least some have felt like you just can't "move along" any more, you just can't do it,
"your hope is gone." And when you've given up like that, you can't help but maybe
think about giving it all up.. Suicide "Go ahead as you waste your days with thinking."
When you're thinking of suicide that seems to be the only thing you can think of.
Also, I haven't known anyone who ever thought to talk to someone when they've
wanted to kill themselves "Speak to me, when all you got to keep is strong." I think
he's saying, talk to me, I'm here and maybe have felt like you are. "Speak to me."
Towards the end of the song, he ends with "When everything is wrong, we move
along"...."When all you got to keep is strong." Maybe saying, you’re not alone in your
thoughts. You've got to keep it strong the just make it thru this point in your life.
Were there any predominant themes?
There isn’t a predominant theme throughout the video, it’s just a mixture of things.

4. Were there any props significant to the video?
Because the video is about keeping going, and it could refer to suicide, at the
beginning of the video it has a hand on a slab showing that someone has died, also
Tyson dresses as a doctor in some of the scenes showing that you would end up in
hospital if you tried to commit suicide, there is also lyrics in the song that also link to
this theory.
How would you describe the camera work? Did it use particular types of shot?
Most of the camera shots are mid shots as throughout the video you only see the top
half of Tyson and the background which changes. Until the very end when there is an
overshot of the swimming pool revealing the whole band before switching back to a
mid shot of Tyson.
The editing? Thing about pace, type of transitions e.g. cut/fade etc. How was it cut
to the music?
The pace of the shots changed according to the music, the faster the music the faster
the shot change. For example the shots during the chorus are faster than the ones in
the verses.
Write down anything you think worked particularly well in this video?
I think the costume change throughout worked well due to the fact it shows things
can affect anyone and everyone can move on and not give up. People can persevere
through anything.

Is this a typical video for this type of genre? Star? You can only assess this by looking
at another.
Not really this is an unconventional video for this type of music/scene. Its to cheery,
colourful and happy especially for what the song actually means.
