2. I created a new A4 document, and
then added a title using the same font
as the cover page to keep continuity
and house style.
I then used the line tool to separate
the header from the body of the
page, and formatted this to give it a
better sense of style as apposed to
the plain solid line.
3. In photoshop I roughly cut out some
images and applied similar
adjustments as I did to the cover
page. These were then placed onto
my contents page using the image
tool.
By cutting the images out in this way, I
was attempting to create a
scrapbook-like effect, and to make
this more realistic I applied a drop
shadow to them to make them
appear 3D.
4. I added my sub-headings and
anchorage text, using the text tool. I
used the rule tool to create a label-
like effect, and then applied a drop
shadow, to continue with the
scrapbook theme.
Using the text tool I added my
feature articles, using the rule tool
again to make this stand out.
5. I then used the text tool again to add
my regular articles.
The text went behind the images, and
so I changed the runaround setting to
fix this.
6. Finally I added a “Letter from the Editor” a common convention of magazine contents pages, using
a script font to make it appear “signed-off” and more personal to create a stronger link with the
readers.
8. I opened a new document, with two
A4 facing pages. I then used the
shape tool to create a banner along
the bottom, and the text tool to add
the page numbers and the logo of
the magazine. This gave me a basic
layout which links to the colours and
styles on my other pages.
Using the picture content tool I drew a
box for the image to go in, and then
imported it from my files, having
done some slight editing in Photoshop.
9. The text I used on the contents page
is similar to that of the band’s own
logo, so I decided to continue using it
on this page.
I added the stand first paragraph,
and a pull-quote, both are common
conventions of magazines.
10. Having written my article in Word, I
drew text boxes, and then imported
the text into these boxes.
I used the text linking tool so that the
article would flow from one box to
the next.
11. I formatted some of the text to
highlight the artists’ names to make it
easier for the reader to find where
they are mentioned. I also added a
drop capital which is again. A
convention of magazines.
To fill the corner I added a box of
contrasting colour to create an
advertisement for the featured
band’s latest album.
12. I feel all of these elements combined create a professional appearance, and a style that is similar
to popular magazines.
