2. 5S- seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, and shitsuke
They can be translated from the Japanese as "sort", "straighten", "shine",
"standardize", and "sustain’’.
Seiri (整理, sort)
• Remove unnecessary items and dispose off
them properly.
Seiton (整頓, straighten or streamline)
• Arrange all necessary items in order so they
can be easily picked for use.
Seiso (清掃,shine)
• Clean your workplace completely.
Seiketsu (清潔, standardize)
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping
and workplace organization at all times.
Shitsuke (躾, sustain)
•To keep in working order.

3.  To take out unnecessary items either sort , red tag or
dispose them
Necessary:
•Used for daily work
•Used periodically
•I am the source
Unnecessary:
•Unsafe
•Defective
•Obsolete or outdated
•Unused
•Extra or duplicate

4. LACK OF SEIRI
Soft drink bottles either to be
disposed off properly or sent back to
the packaging department. Not
meant to be kept in college canteens,
as shown .
Storing items in bulk, leading
to its expiry, implying
squander of money.

5. Consider:
• Visual aids are encouraged in order to help understanding and
minimize complexity.
•Labeling locations where necessary items are kept when not in use,
especially moveable items.
• Labeling drawers and notebooks to identify their contents.
 To arrange necessary items in a proper order so
that they can be easily picked up for use

6. LACK OF SEITON
Unsorted canteen -kitchen.
A place for everything and everything
in its place, should be followed.

7.  To clean your workplace completely so that there
is no dust anywhere

8. LACK OF SEISO
Mucky workplace , leading to unhygienic
food and dirty surrounding.
Clean and inspect or inspect through
cleaning.
Deteriorated Machinery.

9.  To maintain a high standard of housekeeping and workplace
organization at all times.

11.  To train people to follow good housekeeping
discipline independently.
