personal sensitivity function. The first step is goal function, for the team or group to have a clear goal.
The goal in this film was to get 12 angry men to agree on a verdict, guilty or not guilty. The second
step is the analysis function, to analyze the data, inforamation, or evidence that can help the group
achieve the group goal. When juror #8 provided a not guilty decision many of the group members
became upset. juror #7 made it clear to the group that he would like to get out of their quickly so he
could attend the baseball game he had tickets for. This is a prime example of individual roles,
behaviors that focus on an individual other then the group or task at hand. This behavior upsetter juror
#8 due to the fact that a mans life is on the line and all he could focus on was missing a baseball game.

Middlesex by Jeffry Eugenides is a book about Calliope Cal Stephanides. In the beginning of the
book, Cal, as he likes to be referred to as, tells us about his condition. Cal has a 5 Alpha Reductase
pseudohermaphrodite which is, simply put, a condition that affects the sexual development of males
before the birth of the child and also during puberty. In Middlesex, incestuous marriages were secretly
accepted among the villagers which resulted in Cal being conceived by cousins. Before Cal s birth, the
tradition of his family was gender prediction by his grandmother, Desdemona Stephanides. It seemed
to be a traditional thing for the family from the Greek roots. When it was time to predict Tessie s, Cal s
mother, baby, Desdemona declared that the child would be a boy. Milton, Cal s father, disagreed
because there was no way the baby could be a boy scientifically. This could also be based on the fact
that Tessie and Milton wanted a baby girl. Until the age of sixteen, Cal was raised as a girl even
though he had a male brain biologically.

ethnicity. While Chiang beautifully intersects the two historical subfields, attention to the intersection
of social categories was lacking. Throughout the book, there were brief moments of intersectional
analysis that greatly contributed to the text. However, these were few and far between. I demonstrate
that had Chiang used the rich intersectional understanding of society on the Monterey more often, the
book would have been greatly strengthened. Moments where Chiang does acknowledge the
intersecting identities of Monterey inhabitants and visitors help to strengthen her book. The moment

I grew up in a very strict, religious household and though I was never baptized in the religion
I was a practicing Jehovah s Witness till about the age of 25. I do still occasionally go to their
meetings but more importantly I still believe the fundamentals of what they teach and Hell is not one
of those fundamentals. Jehovah s Witness s believe that when you die that your body and soul returns
to the earth. In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it
you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return (New World Translation, Gen. 3.19).
Whatever your hand finds to do, do with all your might, for there is no work nor planning nor

understand. In both Angela s Ashes and The Street, we can distinguish a similar theme. One similar
theme in both stories is struggling to get through life s complications. After reading the two different
