A Brief Note On The Canadian Tax Law
Under Canadian Tax Law, there is an election for companies to defer recaptures and capital gains of
property that was involuntarily or voluntarily disposed of. In this research paper, we attempt to prove
that the election is a useful taxation strategy for businesses so that they are not subject to pay taxes on
capital gains or recaptures until such a time where they may acquire an eligible replacement property
that will help them earn business income. We will provide facts, definitions, and examples to illustrate
the use of this election throughout the paper by explaining the capital cost allowance system, the offset
available to business for capital gains and recaptures, the election process, the rules regarding
replacing former business ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Population Of Native Hawaiians
Introduction For this research paper, I chose the population of Native Hawaiians. Native Hawaiians
have some of the most interesting and unique cultural norms, and unique language and a strong
agricultural system. I chose to research the Native Hawaiians because I have family that are full
Native Hawaiian, I do not know much about the population and I have never been there. I have always
been interested in the Hawaiian islands and what they have to offer to the locals and year round
tourists. With this paper I want to explore the language, culture, the agricultural system, health and
elders.
History
Hawaii is a group of island in the Central Pacific Ocean, the islands are volcanic. Hawaii became an
United States state on August 21, 1959,the capital of Hawaii is Honolulu and it is located on the island
of Oahu. The total land size of Hawaii is 10,926 square miles (Staff).
Hawaii is made up of eight main islands, the island of Hawaii is called the Big Island, it is over 4,028
square islands, it was formed by the a hotspot in the Earth s Crust. It has three active volcanoes and
one of the most active ones. Maui is the second largest main island, its economy is mainly based on
agriculture and tourism. Its main productions are coffee, macadamia nuts, flowers, sugar, papaya and
pineapples. Oahu is the third largest island of Hawaii and is the home of the capital Honolulu. Kauai is
the fourth largest and it is the oldest, is it located farthest away from the hot spot formed

The Impact Of Race On Urban America And The Way It Has...
During module #3 I was very shocked at some of the findings I discovered. I never realized how much
the role of race in urban America and the way it has affected and shaped the spatial organization of
cities. Being asked this question prior to this module I would of had no idea what was going on. I
never thought about poverty, race, where people live and why they live there, or even crime in areas
like I do now. It shocks me to see how much cities and people living in the cities are struggling from
poverty and how race is a major factor in all of this. Thinking back on Davenport, and what has been
going on in my home town has really helped me connect all the things we have learned in class to my
life. Poverty, crime, race, and where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starkey explains that it has a great deal to do with the generation before them, and where their parents
lived and did. Another graph explains this statement. The graph explains the percentage of blacks and
whites living in a poor neighborhood over consecutive generations; 48% black, 7% white (Sharkey
39). This was hard for me to understand at first, I kept wondering well why can t they just move
somewhere else? Why did they have to stay in a poor neighborhood like where they grew up in? They
didn t have to, I know that but I know when I think about these questions I think about how if I was
put into that situation I would want to get out, but I would be familiar with it already, and comfortable
where I was. I feel like many people are scared of change. I know I sometimes am. This also kind of
ties into what Karl Cassell talked to us about, he explained that parents are responsible for leaving
their children with some type of inheritance, or a part of their parents life that would benefit their
children in their future. People in poor neighborhoods don t have the wealth to get their children
started into a life they deserve so then it s put on the children to do something with their life and make
something of themselves. Chapter 5 of Sharkey I came crossed a graph that saddened me. The section
of the graph says, Parent does

The Importance Of The Arabic Language
Around about the 9th and 10th centuries, Math and Science started to flourish in the Middle Eastern
world. This time is known as The Golden Age of Islam (Chejne 57). During this time many Middle
Eastern scholars began taking the works of the greeks and translating them into the Arabic Language.
This allowed for the Middle East to learn in a new way and brought light to this new world of
learning. Through this translation, many doors opened up which allowed for new mathematics and
scientific discoveries. Arabic then became known as the language of mathematics and sciences
(Chejne 59). While Arabic is one of the more known languages of the Middle East and shows in great
context how one language can develop and grow as an identity for people all of the other Middle
Eastern Languages did the same as well. Besides showing how language is important to a society
through religion, literature, and learning Arabic also shows how a language can evolve into different
ones as described before as dialects.
Overall, the Arabic Language contains one standard version of the language and around 12 main
different dialects. The Standard version of the Language is known as Modern Standard Arabic or MSA
for short. This form of Arabic is what is taught in schools and known as the Written form of Arabic
(Callison Burch et al. 2). Having this standard form of Arabic is a way for everyone who speaks it to
be able to understand and communicate with one another. This helps show another great

Thiosulfate And Iodine Reaction Lab Report
In general, this experiment was able to accomplish and establish the rates at which persulfate ions are
able to oxidize iodine ions. The reaction between thiosulfate and iodine is known to be rapid, unless
there is a sufficient amount of thiosulfate present for the iodine to react with. When thiosulfate is
reacting with iodine, the solution will remain colourless, until all the thiosulfate is used up. After a
short while, the clear solution will turn into a deep blue when iodine binds to starch. This process
allows the rate of reaction to be determined for the persulfate reaction, when the ability to record time
is accurate.
The first part of this experiment was to determine the individual concentrations of the reactants. In

Thus, the reaction orders remain valid. Next the value of ΔS2O8 2 was retrieved by dividing [S2O3 2]
by 2, which was concluded to be 9.1x10 4 mol/L. Using the ΔS2O8 2 and the time it took for the
reaction to complete, the rate was determined.
For trial 1, the rate of reaction was 1.61x10 5 mol L 1 s 1, k was 0.167 mol2 L2 s 1 and the ionic
strength was 0.2362 mol L 1 s 1. For this reaction no electrolytes were added to speed up the reaction.
The reaction run for 1 can be considered as the model reaction for this experiment, since other
substances were not added in. For trial 2, the rate was 7.95x10 6 mol L 1 s 1, k was 0.331 mol2 L2 s 1,
and the ionic strength was 0.1327 mol L 1 s 1. In this trial, the concentration of [S2O8 2] was reduced,
while (NH4)2SO4 was added. The electrolytes from (NH4)2SO4 were able to diffuse, and replenish
the reaction s ionic strength. Thus, the k value was higher and the reaction was quick. For the third
trial, the rate of reaction was 1.83x10 6 mol L 1 s 1, k was 0.305 mol2 L2 s 1, and the ionic strength
was 0.1055 mol L 1 s 1. The concentration of S2O8 2 is ¼ of trial 1, thus the rate of the reaction also
decreased, and the overall reaction took longer to finish. For the fourth

Also, in a longer hadith, the Prophet (pbuh) said that the salah (prayer) is a light, and charity is a
proof, and patience is illumination. In one hadith from al Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, it is reported that
the Prophet (pbuh) said, None of you [truly] believes until he loves for his brother that which he loves
for himself. In another hadith, the Prophet said Let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day speak
good, or keep silent; and let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his neighbour;
and let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his guest. In another hadith, a man
asked the Prophet (pbuh) for counsel and the Messenger (pbuh) answered several times by saying Do
not become angry. From 40 Hadith Nawawi 24, the Prophet is reported saying that God said, O My
servants! I have forbidden dhulm (oppression) for Myself, and I have made it forbidden amongst you,
so do not oppress one another. In another from Sahih Muslim, the Prophet (pbuh) said, Do not envy
one another, and do not inflate prices for one another, and do not hate one another, and do not turn
away from one another, and do not undercut one another in trade, but [rather] be slaves of Allah and

Radio Frequency Identification And Wireless Sensor...
Abstract Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are two
significant wireless technologies. RFID and WSNs are well known both identification and data
transmission they are widely used in applications for environmental and health monitoring. Though
the integration of RFID and WSNs fascinates little attention from the research community. In this
paper, a Hybrid RFID and WSN system (HRW) that cooperatively integrates the traditional RFID and
WSN systems for efficient data collection in large scale mobile monitoring applications. HRW has
hybrid smart nodes that combine the function of RFID tags, the minimized function of RFID readers,
and wireless sensors. Hence, nodes can read each other s sensed data in tags, and all data can be
rapidly transmitted to an RFID reader through the node that first extends it. The RFID readers transmit
the collected data to the back end servers for data processing and management. The result of the
proposed method improves the performance of HRW in terms of the cost of arrangement, transmission
suspends, capability and tags capacity requirement.

Scientific Model
1) In YOUR OWN WORDS write a few sentences describing what a scientific model is. A scientific
model is a tool that helps explain natural phenomenons or answer scientific questions. A scientific
model can come in a variety of different forms such as drawings, graphs, equations, and three
dimensional figures. They use these visuals to not only make it easier for other people to understand
their models, but also as a form of evidence to prove that the conclusion they reached through an
experiment or test was valid. 2) What are some important things a scientist looks for when she is
judging the acceptability of a model? (Describe AT LEAST THREE.) Some important things scientists
look for when they are judging the acceptability of a model is whether the model explain most of or all
of the observations made, will your model still work or be the best answer if a new piece of evidence

Hemoglobin and Sickle Cell Disease
Introduction
Sickle cell disease, also known as SCD, is a hereditary blood disorder that takes place due to mutation
in the hemoglobin gene that is found in red blood cells. While it is said to have originated in Africa
and is mostly predominant in African Americans, sickle cell disease is now common among different
ethnic groups all over the world. Sickle cell anemia (HbSS) infects an estimated 70,000 to 100,000
Americans (Housman) and accounts for approximately 70% of anemia in the United States.
Hemoglobin functions as an oxygen carrying protein as it carries oxygen from the lungs through the
arteries and to the rest of the body. In sickle cell disease, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These subunits are held together by ionic, hydrogen bonds, van der Waals forces, hydrophobic
interactions as well as heme groups that are made up of Fe2+. Hemoglobin can be found in two
different states. The first state is known as the T state when it is tense and oxygen deprived. The
second state is known as R state when is relaxed and oxygenated. Hemoglobin first binds to oxygen
then transports it to blood vessels, which have low oxygen levels. After it releases the oxygen the
blood vessels, the red cells then transports carbon dioxide (CO2) from the tissues to the lungs where it
picks oxygen once more.
Cooperativiy, Affinity, and Efficiency
When a subunit binds to oxygen, it changes it conformation and sends messages to other subunits to
bind to oxygen as well. When more hemoglobin monomers (subunits) bind to oxygen, it is increasing
hemoglobin s affinity to oxygen, thus leading to better cooperativity. It was also discovered that there
is a higher affinity for purified hemoglobin rather than the hemoglobin inside the red blood cells due
to the anionic compound 2,3 bisphosphoglycerate (2,3 BPG). This molecule binds to hemoglobin in a
small pocket only found in the T state when it is deoxygenized and allows it become stable. It further
causes a reduction in hemoglobin s affinity to oxygen, working out in its favor. During the transition
from T to R state, the pocket containing 2,3 BPG is broken and

Much Ado About Nothing Structuralism Essay
Like Father, Like Daughter: Structuralism Amongst the Women in Shakespeare
During the Renaissance, it was common for women to behave in a certain manner in a patriarchal
society. Women were subordinate to any man in their life, whether it was a husband or a father.
However, Shakespeare creates female roles in his plays that often steer away from the common script.
These women challenge, deceive, and steal from these men, including one s closest to them in their
lives. In Merchant of Venice, young Portia and Jessica are two examples of these strayed female
characters. They feel trapped in the hands of their father s and do their best to break free of that hold.
In Much Ado About Nothing, Hero is a young woman who feels her relationship with ... Show more

This shows the extreme version of a rebellious teenager in order to escape her father. Once Shylock
finds out his daughter has disappeared with his money and jewels, he is outwardly upset with the fact
that his possessions are gone. He even states that he wished his daughter were dead at [his] foot, and
the jewels in her ear! Would she were hearsed at [his] foot, and the ducats in her coffin! (Act III,
Scene i, 76 79). Surely, one can t believe there are any similarities in this relationship, however,
structuralism shows the underlying pattern between Shylock and Jessica. Diane Dreher author of
Domination and Defiance: Fathers and Daughters in Shakespeare, points out that the two hold a
common trait: Greed. Shylock s greed is expressed through his constant talk on commerce and his
precious ducats, and Jessica has inherited that ideology. Before running away with Lorenzo, she drops
down a basket filled with money and jewels belonging to her father. One would assume it was an act
of reprisal, however, Dreher argues it is greed much like her father s. She describes her as bad and
disloyal, unfilial, a thief; frivolous, greedy, without any more conscience than a cat, (pg. 102). These
two characters know that money holds a powerful position in their lives. Along with this greed, both
are very determined characters in terms of fighting for what they want. With Shylock, he is constantly
trying to receive justice through the deal he made with Antonio. Despite the strange request, he
demands that he receives his pound of flesh from Antonio and stops at nothing to see it through. This
passion can be seen in Jessica as well when she is determined to marry Lorenzo despite her father s
wishes. She gets to the point of disguising herself as a man in order to be with him. She goes great
lengths to be with Lorenzo by eloping, but

Personal Interest Project Analysis
The way society shapes the way that individuals see people who have a disability is what my Personal
Interest Project is about. It is on the way that individuals see people with a disability and whether or
not this is base around other people in society s ideas. People often come to conclusions based on
family expectations and their views towards something, views within the community for example
peers impact thoughts and values and play a major role in each others views. The reason for this topic
choice is due to having a huge interest in this field and wanting to do something that was different and
that would relate across a broad number of my subjects. This PIP is going to show how society

These included an interview and I also handed out questionnaires as part of my primary research. As
for my secondary research I conducted analysis of data from varied resources such as the internet,

emotions, body language, thoughts and opinions first hand from a parent/carer s point of view. This
information however may be slightly bias because they were her daughters therefore I had to go
through it very carefully being aware of this. An interview was a good choice because it gave me an
idea of what both the carer and the dependent go through. Questionnaires were chosen because it is
easy to give out, collect and collate. They can give bulk statistical responses which is what was
needed. The responses were quite helpful and it was a very sufficient way to gather data. Data analysis

The Godfather Is A 1972 American Crime Drama Directed By...
The Godfather is a 1972 American crime drama directed by Francis Coppola based on the 1969 novel
by Mario Puzo. The film stars Marlin Brando and Al Pacino as the leaders of a powerful family
business of crime. The story is centred on Michael Corleone, and how he grows from a young man
wanting nothing to do with the family business to a ruthless Don who will stop at nothing to exact his
revenge. The movie grossed around 286 million dollars and is touted as one of the most successful
films of all time, and in 1990 it was selected for preservation in the United States Film Registry. The
film portrays many different character stereotypes commonly used in the Crime genre, and this helps
to allow the viewer to identify with the characters better, as they already have an understanding of
what their intentions are.
Michael Corleone is the youngest son of Don Vito Corleone and, despite his families criminal
background, he doesn t want anything to do with his father s bussiness. He can be considered the main
protagonist of the story, however he fits under the character stereotype of the Villain, in accordance
with the stock characters stated by narrative theorist Vladimir Propp. Michael is a returned war hero
and is first introduced attending his sister Connie s wedding with his girlfriend, Kay. Much of Michael
character is introduced to the viewer in this scene, primarily his disinterest in the family business.

In 1995 the company went public, trading its stock on NASDAQ under the symbol DLTR, growing

Keys for Expansion Unlike many of its competitors, by maintaining the one dollar price tag on all of
the items in its shelves, gave Dollar Tree a tremendous advantage in costumers minds helping it to
grow the size and number of its stores. In order to for the company to expand, some changes had to be
made. Rather than continuing to sell only closeout merchandise, the founders decided for their stores
to be the equivalent of traditional variety stores, which had a large selection of basic goods priced at
one dollar or less. In order for that to work they had to change the way they purchased their
merchandise, which consisted on deals and novelties. They began buying directly from foreign
manufacturers and manufacturers in the United States. Another change that was necessary and very
important was the location of their stores. Since the beginning, when they were still part of K amp;K
Toys, most of their stores were inside shopping malls. This had to change. They then began
concentrating on opening stores in strip centers where their stores would be anchored to large grocery
stores, or other large merchandisers such as Target, or Wal Mart to undersell. This change not only

Censorship Of The United States

Research paper
Censorship
This paper will cover censorship in film with its main focus in the United States. It will cover the
progress of film censorship and how it has varied throughout the country as well as state to state. The
reader will discover how film censorship has changed with society and can be a resemblance of
society at a certain point in time. Important cases and lawsuits will be covered as well, enabling the
reader to understand why and how certain laws were created and questioned.
The first acknowledgment of regulating film arrived in 1896 after Thomas Edison s landmark film,
The Kiss. Critics of this film saw it as a threat to morality, thus raising questions on what should or
should not be shown to the public. Shortly after concern over The Kiss, the first statute in movie
censorship was enacted. The State of Maine implemented the statute in order to prevent the exhibition
prizefight of the 1897 heavyweight championship between James Corbett and Bob Fitzsimmons. This
opened the door for other organizations and states to regulate on their own terms. Although most
scholars regard the 1907 ordinance of the City of Chicago as the first act of censorship in the United
States, but as state above, the prevention of prizefighting in Maine is now regarded as the first act of
censorship. Nevertheless, the 1907 ordinance of the City of Chicago was groundbreaking for film
censorship. This ordinance made it illegal to show any

In fact, studies show that the more that files are shared digitally, the more printing is done overall. It is
just that the large reprographic shops are not doing the bulk of printing anymore. The majority of
printing is now handled at the end user level. Still, several software companies have developed
software that allows estimators to import a drawing, set a scale, and begin measurements and takeoffs
digitally. This works great in the office, but does not have a good practical application in the field. In
fact, we have joked that you can t set your monitor on the hood of a truck. Ultimately the field crews
need a physical drawing that they can reference at the jobsite. So, instead of looking at a wide format
plotter as an either/or proposition against takeoff software, it should be considered as a complement

The Unity Of Early Greece
The unity of early Greece was dissolved when powerful city states Athens and Sparta became
immersed in a war, known as, the Peloponnesian War. The war began when Sparta led its alliance, the
Peloponnesian League, against Athens to test its seemingly imperialistic design. The league consisted
of Sparta, Thebes, and Corinth. Thucydides, an Athenian historian, philosopher, and general is
credited for much of what is known about the Peloponnesian War. Throughout the war he kept an
accurately detailed description of the events taking place. He published it titled History of the
Peloponnesian War with the intent for future generations to be able to understand how and why the
war came about. (Carr)

Its prosperity increased when it was offered leadership of the Delian League in recognition of its high
performance in the Persian War. The Delian League served as a defensive organization to protect
Greece from future attacks. It collected money from its participating members to be stored in the
treasury on the island of Delos. Athens dictated the amount of contributions from each member and
distributed the funds. (Gill) However, suspicions of Athens abuse of power soon began to rise. Other
cities believed Athens primary goal was to strengthen itself rather than to protect the overall interests
of Greece. The transfer of the Delian League s funds from Delos to Athens confirmed the suspicions
of its selfish intentions. With the Delian League morphing into the Athenian Empire, the peace treaty
was nulled and the Peloponnesian War began.
The causes of the Peloponnesian War have often been debated, but centralize around the same idea.
Thucydides, the Athenian historian, said, The real cause I consider to be the one which was formally
most kept out of sight. The growth of the power of Athens, and the alarm which this inspired in
Lacedaemon, made war inevitable. (Thucydides, 13) He believed that Athens increasingly dominating
power initiated Sparta and its counterparts to take action. The goal of the Peloponnesian League was
to prevent the independent city states

Femininity In Tank Girl
An interesting depiction of femininity is in Jamie Hewlett s 1988 Tank Girl, where Rebecca Buck, or
Tank Girl, is presented as untraditionally feminine. Her appearance is definitely a challenge to the
typical comic book girlish look, which are usually long hair and a curvy figure. Tank Girl instead
wears outfits that are chaotic with wacky colors and symbols, all while brandishing weapons and
having a sly smile. This combination of femininity with a masculine streak where she flaunts her body
while acting gross, makes her appear as a overwhelmingly punk rock empowered woman.
Physically Tank Girl looks womanly, yet she is far more realistically proportioned than some female
characters, with a small chest and average waistline, she shows a

Papa s Flawless Model Car
The summer before second grade was the peak of my older brother Henry bullying me (Lyman). He
was always doing little mean tricks on me, like tying my shoes together, eating my food at the dinner
table, or pushing me in the mud. It was not until that summer in late June that he brought me to my
fate. Papa had left us in early March the spring before for his mistress and ever since, Mama has cried
every night without him by her side. This took a toll on my brother and I. I would cry for a week after
Papa left, but that was all, however, Henry took it much worse. Papa and him were two peas in a pod.
Papa and Henry would play catch in the yard on a sunny day, then afterwards grill steaks. On rainy
days, they would build beautiful and flawless model cars. Papa and I never had this time together, I
would always be helping Mama with her sewing or cooking. I remember one of the model cars clear
as day, it was a bright red 1974 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible. The car was Henry s prized possession
and it was always alluring me. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Describe The Color Blue
When I see the color blue, I think of my pale blue, stuffed bunny that I got when I was three years old.
I named him Blue Sky after the huge expanse of pale blue that loomed over my head as I played
outside and blew bubbles in my backyard on warm summer days. I wanted him to become my new
playmate, looking up at the clouds with me as I found shapes in them and marvled at the cloudy trails
left by airplanes. My earliest memories are filled with the color blue. It was the color of my first
glasses, my favorite toy, and the best slide on the playground across the street from my house, all
seemingly simple objects that my young mind grasped onto in a way that made them monumental.
These things made up my entire world at a time when I was completely carefree, my mind full of
wonder when experiencing even the simplest things. I still think back to my early childhood
sometimes when I look up at the sky on a cloudless day, and it reminds me to stop and appreciate the
little things sometimes when the world starts to feel overwhelming. ... Show more content on

other countries? Specifically, those who seek sanctuary and asylum from the terrors of their own
country? Who will scratch their back? Will we? Most Americans have a rational fear of outsiders who
enter the country; particularly those who enter the country illegally. A shortage of jobs, scarcity of
housing, and rises in crime are a few of the many fears that Americans have concerning illegal
immigrants; however, with the help of the Mutual Friends Program (MFP), those fears can soon be a

spiritual by comparison, reflecting her gospel roots of her being a pastor s daughter. During the bridge,

Jazzy flavor to the song. Track 4 ( Do right woman, do right man ): This song just happens to also be
one of my favorites. This is quite possibly to my understanding the best version of the song, although
Gram Parsons had a good composition. The song is a combination of beautifully recorded piano and

Mount Everest Climbers
Mount Everest is the biggest mountain in the world, and because of that attracts many climbers to try
and climb all 29,029 feet of it, but think about all the trash they leave behind while climbing. In 2013
4,000 people have reached Everest s summit, with many more attempting to. Mount Everest has a
natural beauty, one that should be preserved, and people climbing the mountain and leaving their
garbage on it is ruining it. Climbers have a negative impact on Mount Everest, and while journeying to
the top, they are slowly destroying the mountain. First of all, the short article The World s Highest
Mountain describes what Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay experienced and felt as they
climbed Mount Everest and it shows the efforts that they made afterwards to help preserve and keep
the mountain safe from the dangers of climbers. For instance, the text states that Hillary was also
deeply concerned about the environment. He helped establish reforestation programs in Nepal. He also
demanded that mountain climbers clean up the garbage that often got left behind on Mount Everest
materials like used oxygen bottles, which climbers would discard because of their weight (Source #1
7). This shows that Sir Edmund HIllary and Tenzing Norgay understand how much trash climbers
leave behind when climbing Mount Everest because they went on that climb and probably left some
garbage on the mountain. Additionally, it allows the audience to see that climbing the mountain means
leaving trash, and since Hillary understands this from his own climb, he is demanding people pick up
their garbage. For example, paragraph 4 of The World s Highest Mountain it says that The goal Hillary
and Norgay set for themselves wasn t easy. The pair encountered difficult challenges on the way to the
summit, such as narrow ridges and 10,000 foot drops off the mountain. Hillary and Norgay s
experience on the mountain proves to us just how difficult it is to climb Mount Everest. Because it is
so difficult to climb Mount, you wouldn t want to have to carry your garbage up and back down the
mountain, it is easier to leave it on the mountain and that is what most people do. Therefore, because
of the difficulties climbers face when climbing the

Discover Therapeutic Aptamers For Vegf165 And Egfr
Discover therapeutic aptamers for VEGF165 and EGFR by high fidelity pentamer condon set Dehui
Kong, Department of Chemistry, University of Georgia Introduction Aptamers are ssDNA or RNA
oligonucleotides with very high affinity for their target. They bind to their target with high selectivity
and specificity because of their well defined tertiary structures. Researchers speculate that aptamers
have the potential to replace antibodies as high affinity reagents in medical diagnostics and therapy.
SELEX (Systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment) is often used in evolve aptamers
for various molecular targets[1]. The concept of using aptamers as therapeutic agents was first
envisioned in the 1990s[2], with recent advances enabling their translation into the clinic[3]. In 2005,
the first aptamer therapeutic was approved by the FDA to treat the wet form of age related macular
degeneration[4]. Aptamers have impressive advantages over antibodies[5]: (i) the in vitro selection
process does not require the use of animals or cell culture which enables toxic or non immunogenic
targets aptamer selection;(ii) their generation through in vitro selection enables ready tuning of
binding and specificity properties; (iii) their active structure can be reversibly formed by thermal
denaturation and cooling; (iv) they exhibit excellent chemical stability and shelf life; (v) their
chemical synthesis is predictable and scalable. Fig.1 Antibody/Aptamer protein

Cost is a huge problem when it comes to kids participating in youth sports. According to athlete
intelligence parents in the United States spend an average of $671 per year to cover different costs for
sports. These costs may include the participation fee, uniforms, lessons, or coaching from a private
club. As the kids get older they start participating in traveling leagues which can also be very costly.
Overtime all of those things add up and can become very costly for families This is just in youth
sports only, and the cost has increased and has been on the rise.
Another problem would be under trained coaches or coaches that are not properly taught how to coach
young children in youth sports. Farrey (2013) Only 1 in 5 coaches of youth teams of children under
age 14 say they have been trained in effective motivational technique, and just 1 in 3 in skills and

that harm reduction strategies can be put into play. Dealing with the extensive amount of overdose

which is costly and often ineffective (Uyei, J., Fiellin, D. A., Buchelli, M., Rodriguez Santana, R.,

problem oriented, and evidence based; utilizing both informal social control and partnerships (S.

and reflecting the current state of emergency recent programs would seem to have a limited effect. It
would seem as though the best crime prevention approach would be through social development, it is
important to make use of problem solving interventions designed to prevent the onset of criminal or

Spiritual Journey In Siddhartha
Personal experience can greatly shape an author s work. This theory came to play in several of
Hermann Hesse s novels. More importantly, through one of his most popular novels, known as,
Siddhartha, Hesse takes the reader on a spiritual journey. Hermann Hesse wrote the novel Siddhartha
in 1922 after becoming fascinated with the Indian culture, as stated by an excerpt from Encyclopedia
of World Literature in the 20th Century. The excerpt also stated that Hesse became fascinated with the
Indian culture after his religious family performed a missionary there. In 1911, Hesse took a journey
to India, which sparked his fascination even more, likewise expressed in the excerpt. After having
these experiences with the Indian culture, Hesse wrote the novel describing some of the attributes he

Thom Gunn’s In the Tank
Thom Gunn s In the Tank A Manifestation of the Human Consciousness
A thorough analysis of subject material and literary style exhibits the complexity of establishing a

appears to be a moment s reflection, Thom Gunn s narrator in In the Tank reveals an abundance of

Thus being established, literary devices are used in the description of the tank.
The second stanza of Tank begins with a course of alliteration that is both an enlightening and
confusing commentary on the poem. The cell was clean and cornered, and contained (line 5). Upon a
visual appreciation of the line, c is repeated four times. However, when the line is spoken out loud,
cell is pronounced with a soft se while clean and cornered, and contained are pronounced with a hard
k sound. Gunn s use of adjectives to describe the man s surroundings are proof of the figurative
difference between a cell and a tank. A cell is what the institution gives an inmate. It is exactly what
Gunn has described it as: clean and cornered, and contained. A tank, relatively speaking, is a
continuation of the cell, beyond what the institution issues. The word cell acts as a façade for the true
definition of the word (the clean and cornered and contained aspect of the cell). The cell, in turn, is a
part of the inmate s consciousness through exposure and constant scrutiny of surroundings and
becomes the tank. The use of the past tense indicates the flow of events from a cell to a tank. The cell
was clean and cornered and contained. Granted, the cell was all these, but what has the tank become?
After all, the environment is described as the felon s tank in line one. Again, an insinuation of

Organizations for People Fifty and Over Today
I believe that AARP is one of the leading organizations for people fifty and over today and known
worldwide. The initial process that brought this powerful group forward was the idea of Dr.Ethyl
Percy. Dr. Percy is an important figure for retired teachers in the 1940 s (International Directory of
Company Histories, 2009). Dr. Percy, is reflected as being the main female in history that led a high
school platform as principle (International Directory of Company Histories, 2009). As retirement
came forward, Dr. Percy had an interest in the well being of colleagues that retired as she, and had
little means to live on. With this in mind, Dr.Percy initialized the National Retired Teachers
Association beginning in 1947(International Directory of Company Histories, 2009). This tremendous
woman added a living structure for the retired teachers and provided a nursing home, which she alone
began. Dr. Percy joined forces with a gentleman named Leonard Davis, in the event that health
insurance was in need to help pay for the facility. The Continental Casualty Company, which Mr.
Davis was associated with, began enrolling these retired teachers in need and opened up the first
policy for them in 1956(International Directory of Company Histories, 2009). The proceeds were
great as policies distributed through the mail, and monetary proceeds began to add up very quickly.
Dr. Percy again paired up with Leonard Davis and invested excess proceeds gained from Leonard
Davis and hence, AARP was a

Explain Why Didn T The Us Jump In To The Holocaust
Zaccheaus Allen
Ms. Childs
English 10
17 October 2014
Why didn t the USA step in to the holocaust faster Why didn t the USA jump in the holocaust sooner?
People might wonder and ask why. Well the USA was made to be one of the most powerful nations
political and social. And after world war, a burial war that lost USA a lot of people, the USA signed an
isolationist policy. That meant that the USA could not step in the to any other domestic conflicts. The
holocaust was a genocide that killed a lot of Jews. Over 6 million. The genocide started in January
30th, 1933 when Adolf Hitler can to be general of his army going 100000 deep. After eight years, in
December of 1941 the USA jumped in after years of watching to help. Before the USA jumped in to
help a little under 5 million Jews were killed. After four years of war and a million more Jews killed
the genocide ended in may 8 1945. There is nothing that compares to the Holocaust (Fidel Castro). ...

Well yes, they did but signed the isolationist police after the World War 1. They jumped in to that war
to help Britain, France, and Russia. But during that war the USA lost 116, 115 people so the USA
singed that policy so they didn t have to lose that many people again. After a couple million deaths
they knew that they need to act and after 2 years they finaly started to talk it out. World war two was
the war that stopped the genocide.it was a cold bloody war that only led to death. Over 60 million
people died. That s 2.5% of the worlds population. This war lasted 6 years and all started because of
the genocide. When Russians started to sail ships our way we were not putting up with that, we fought
back. The USA left the policy and helped protect the

The Effects Of Love In The Miracle Worker By Arthur Keller
If love is judged by its visible effects, it often looks more like hatred. As stated in the quote,
individuals tend to show their affection towards their loved ones in a rather aggressive fashion thus the
process of expressing one s love to another is often interpreted as hatred. However, this
misinterpretation only occurs when one s treatment of love is judged solely based on the visually
observable aspects. These actions actually show an insight into their genuine love, but the clumsiness
in expressing is what people mistakenly perceive as loathing and detestation. As a result, the
relationship between individuals develop contrary to the original intents as it is followed by individual
s actions, inevitably arousing disputes. In William Gibson s play based on Helen Keller s life, The
Miracle Worker, the characters also struggle with similar relationship conflicts revolving around the
idea of visible love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning, Keller consistently rejected James rude behaviors. At one instance when James
refers Kate as Mrs. Keller instead of mother, Keller scolds James by heavily stating, Mrs. Keller. Must
you always speak of her as though you haven t met the lady? (24). The stage direction of Keller s
heavy tone infers the high volume of Keller s strictness towards James unreasonable attitude. As the
story progresses, the frequent clashes between the two characters gradually build antagonism in their
relationship. Eventually, James starts to fear, and pleads Keller in pain Don t don t (83). James painful
tone mentioned in the stage direction while interacting with Keller proves the corruption of their
relationship since James terror delineates his hate against Keller. The visible effects of love s treatment
foment conflicts with James, and the characters are soon viewed as

Adolescence Essay
Adolescence is the transition period from childhood to adulthood, this is the time where the person
changes in cognitive and physical ways. Adolescence is the period after a child hits puberty and ends
depending on culture. Biologically, the child experience sexual maturation, there are two categories
that fall into it. Primary and secondary characteristics evolve from it. Primary sexual characteristics
include the maturation of reproductive organs. Secondary sexual characteristics are, visible parts of
the body that signal sexual maturity, such as breasts and widened hips for girls, facial hair for boys,
and pubic hair for both girls and boys. Many kids during this time explore their interests and reach for

In the adolescent stage from ages 12 to 14 relationships usually last about five months on average.
When Christopher was younger he described looking for, girls for their body figure and the things
they had materialistically. When one is young they start to focus on the things that are expensive and
in style . When I asked Christopher how long did his previous relationships last, he answered, longest
[was] 9 months, on average [they lasted] 2 3 months....Now I focus on things that will benefit me in
the future and look at girls for what they have in the inside and how they make me feel. He also stated
key words such as, respect and happiness. Respect is a sign of a healthiness and maturity in the
adolescent brain. I asked him what qualities he looked for in a girl and he said I actually don t care
about what perks people have. I would rather know their mistakes and past problems. This can lead
me to get an idea of how their brain work, when placed into certain situations. As they reach
adulthood they last longer and are more steady, lasting maybe up to two years (Carver, Joyner, Udry,
2003). Choosing a girl/ woman that can make proper decisions, helps humans biologically survive in
this world. He said, knowing the pain that an unhealthy relationship can affect a child causes us to
latch on to each other even more.... There are numerous things that other girls I ve dated in the past
don t have, as the one I am dating right now. We are

Great Hammerhead Shark Migration Essay
Recent studies from the article Hammerhead shark migration gives new hope for conservation
discusses how these hammerhead sharks have been listed onto the IUCN (International Union for the
Conservation of Nature) since 2007, also having certain regulation about international trade
threatening species going extinct. Dr. Tristian Guthridge explains the benefits of understanding the
shark s behavior and more research of where these sharks are migrating, and possibly manage the time
of fishing in the areas to eliminate human and shark altercations. With the wide spread of ocean water
it can be difficult to study the traveling of sharks; however, the research group was able to tag the
sharks with both acoustic and satellite tag, and use photo identification and laser photogrammetry
(Charlie Huveneers).
During the observation, the shark s motions and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Charlie Huveneers personal first hand data proved that the great hammerhead sharks are very
migratory. Using this data to Tag, Photo, and researching their movements. He believes this can be
very useful to the future of this endangered species. Great Hammerhead sharks travel a vast migration
3030 km or more. FUCK!! Oh my bad. I didn t take my meds and shit. Anyway, using this information
Dr. Huveneers considers that this species is being over fished by trophy hunters due to their long
migratory patterns and range of environmental range. I personal believe that not only did Dr.
Huveneers did an outstanding job on the research for this article. This article in a scholarly article a lot
of scientific terms and evidence came alone with it. My understanding of these gorgeous animals
shows a lot of appreciation not only for the science behind it all but the respect for this animal I share
this world with. Needless to say, I do hope your respect for this animals are at the same level as

North Dakota Climate Analysis
The climate characteristics of North Dakota vary significantly throughout the state. The state is
divided amid four central physiographic regions: the Great Plains, the Missouri Coteau, the Glaciated
Plains, and the Red River Valley. The average temperature is different throughout the state, ranging
from 37 degrees in in the northeast to 44 degrees along the southern boarder. Though, annual averages
are deceptive because they conceal the substantial seasonal temperature disparities shared all through
the state (North Dakota State University).
A few major rivers are: Missouri, Red River of the North, Sheyenne, and the Mouse River. Major
Lakes are: Devils Lake, Lake Skakawea, Van Hook Arm, Lake Trenton, Powers, and Lake Parling.
Although, there are hundreds of smaller lakes throughout the state (North Dakota ... Show more

This intensification results from the lessening distance to the Gulf of Mexico which is the water
source for a majority of the state s precipitation (Figure One) (North Dakota State University). The
contribution of Lake Oahe, Devils, etc. is relatively minor in comparison. The crop growing season is
when they get 75% of their water, from April to September, running from 110 to 130 days depending
where you are in the state (Figure Two). While surface water is the major source of water for North
Dakota, ground and surface are equally important sources of water for the state. The water quality of
the states aquifers fluctuate considerably throughout; 60 million acre feet of water is amassed in the
foremost unconsolidated aquifers, the volume deposited in the bedrock is unidentified. Another issue:
waste water spills from unconventional oil manufacturing producing extensive water and soil
pollution. In the last ten years alone, there have been 9,700 well drilled, resulting in over 3,900 brine
spills. (Duke

Analysis Of Who Moved My Cheese By Spencer Johnson
Who Moved My Cheese , by Spencer Johnson, is a short story that is focused around change and
adaptation. Spencer Foster includes four characters, two mice, Sniff and Scurry, and two little people
named Hem and Haw. Johnson was a physician and psychologist, who wrote books such as Who
Moved My Cheese , One Minute Manager , and The Guide To Better Decisions . Who moved My
Cheese , was a book on the New York times bestseller, and on the Publishers Weekly. His most
popular and renowned book, Who Moved My Cheese , is used in many businesses and corporations in

Hem and Haw refuse to move, and end up going hungry waiting for more cheese to come back to the
original location. Hem finally moves on and discovers the location of a great cheese stash along with
his friends Sniff and Scurry. The book never fully reveals whether or not Hem makes it out of cheese
station C, but it exhibits how it is possible to discover better opportunities that come with change
through the actions of Haw. The short story Who Moved My Cheese, is a popular novel incorporated
into many businesses to assist in training employees. Fred Nickols wrote an article discussing how he
views the book, and the overall message concerning the purpose of the book. He states that the main
point of the book is to make life simpler than it really is . Nickols expresses his distaste for the book,
and his reluctance to buy it . The writing suggests that Nickols is taking the book s plot too far on the
realism scale, and not considering the real message of the text. The book is meant to inspire people to
be resilient from hardship, and adapt to change, it s not read for the story of the characters. I find the
message of adaptability with change to be warranted, whereas Nickos thinks the book is a get on
board or else message. It seems like he is unnecessarily mad at the book for no reason. The general
feeling this article imposes upon the reader of, is somewhat like he is upset with a fiction story for
being unrealistic. He claims that the book s value is

  • 2. A Brief Note On The Canadian Tax Law Under Canadian Tax Law, there is an election for companies to defer recaptures and capital gains of property that was involuntarily or voluntarily disposed of. In this research paper, we attempt to prove that the election is a useful taxation strategy for businesses so that they are not subject to pay taxes on capital gains or recaptures until such a time where they may acquire an eligible replacement property that will help them earn business income. We will provide facts, definitions, and examples to illustrate the use of this election throughout the paper by explaining the capital cost allowance system, the offset available to business for capital gains and recaptures, the election process, the rules regarding replacing former business ... • 3. The Population Of Native Hawaiians Introduction For this research paper, I chose the population of Native Hawaiians. Native Hawaiians have some of the most interesting and unique cultural norms, and unique language and a strong agricultural system. I chose to research the Native Hawaiians because I have family that are full Native Hawaiian, I do not know much about the population and I have never been there. I have always been interested in the Hawaiian islands and what they have to offer to the locals and year round tourists. With this paper I want to explore the language, culture, the agricultural system, health and elders. History Hawaii is a group of island in the Central Pacific Ocean, the islands are volcanic. Hawaii became an United States state on August 21, 1959,the capital of Hawaii is Honolulu and it is located on the island of Oahu. The total land size of Hawaii is 10,926 square miles (Staff). Hawaii is made up of eight main islands, the island of Hawaii is called the Big Island, it is over 4,028 square islands, it was formed by the a hotspot in the Earth s Crust. It has three active volcanoes and one of the most active ones. Maui is the second largest main island, its economy is mainly based on agriculture and tourism. Its main productions are coffee, macadamia nuts, flowers, sugar, papaya and pineapples. Oahu is the third largest island of Hawaii and is the home of the capital Honolulu. Kauai is the fourth largest and it is the oldest, is it located farthest away from the hot spot formed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Impact Of Race On Urban America And The Way It Has... During module #3 I was very shocked at some of the findings I discovered. I never realized how much the role of race in urban America and the way it has affected and shaped the spatial organization of cities. Being asked this question prior to this module I would of had no idea what was going on. I never thought about poverty, race, where people live and why they live there, or even crime in areas like I do now. It shocks me to see how much cities and people living in the cities are struggling from poverty and how race is a major factor in all of this. Thinking back on Davenport, and what has been going on in my home town has really helped me connect all the things we have learned in class to my life. Poverty, crime, race, and where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Starkey explains that it has a great deal to do with the generation before them, and where their parents lived and did. Another graph explains this statement. The graph explains the percentage of blacks and whites living in a poor neighborhood over consecutive generations; 48% black, 7% white (Sharkey 39). This was hard for me to understand at first, I kept wondering well why can t they just move somewhere else? Why did they have to stay in a poor neighborhood like where they grew up in? They didn t have to, I know that but I know when I think about these questions I think about how if I was put into that situation I would want to get out, but I would be familiar with it already, and comfortable where I was. I feel like many people are scared of change. I know I sometimes am. This also kind of ties into what Karl Cassell talked to us about, he explained that parents are responsible for leaving their children with some type of inheritance, or a part of their parents life that would benefit their children in their future. People in poor neighborhoods don t have the wealth to get their children started into a life they deserve so then it s put on the children to do something with their life and make something of themselves. • 5. The Importance Of The Arabic Language Around about the 9th and 10th centuries, Math and Science started to flourish in the Middle Eastern world. This time is known as The Golden Age of Islam (Chejne 57). During this time many Middle Eastern scholars began taking the works of the greeks and translating them into the Arabic Language. This allowed for the Middle East to learn in a new way and brought light to this new world of learning. Through this translation, many doors opened up which allowed for new mathematics and scientific discoveries. Arabic then became known as the language of mathematics and sciences (Chejne 59). While Arabic is one of the more known languages of the Middle East and shows in great context how one language can develop and grow as an identity for people all of the other Middle Eastern Languages did the same as well. Besides showing how language is important to a society through religion, literature, and learning Arabic also shows how a language can evolve into different ones as described before as dialects. Overall, the Arabic Language contains one standard version of the language and around 12 main different dialects. The Standard version of the Language is known as Modern Standard Arabic or MSA for short. This form of Arabic is what is taught in schools and known as the Written form of Arabic (Callison Burch et al. 2). Having this standard form of Arabic is a way for everyone who speaks it to be able to understand and communicate with one another. This helps show another great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Thiosulfate And Iodine Reaction Lab Report In general, this experiment was able to accomplish and establish the rates at which persulfate ions are able to oxidize iodine ions. The reaction between thiosulfate and iodine is known to be rapid, unless there is a sufficient amount of thiosulfate present for the iodine to react with. When thiosulfate is reacting with iodine, the solution will remain colourless, until all the thiosulfate is used up. After a short while, the clear solution will turn into a deep blue when iodine binds to starch. This process allows the rate of reaction to be determined for the persulfate reaction, when the ability to record time is accurate. Next the value of ΔS2O8 2 was retrieved by dividing [S2O3 2] by 2, which was concluded to be 9.1x10 4 mol/L. Using the ΔS2O8 2 and the time it took for the reaction to complete, the rate was determined. For trial 1, the rate of reaction was 1.61x10 5 mol L 1 s 1, k was 0.167 mol2 L2 s 1 and the ionic strength was 0.2362 mol L 1 s 1. For this reaction no electrolytes were added to speed up the reaction. The reaction run for 1 can be considered as the model reaction for this experiment, since other substances were not added in. For trial 2, the rate was 7.95x10 6 mol L 1 s 1, k was 0.331 mol2 L2 s 1, and the ionic strength was 0.1327 mol L 1 s 1. In this trial, the concentration of [S2O8 2] was reduced, while (NH4)2SO4 was added. The electrolytes from (NH4)2SO4 were able to diffuse, and replenish the reaction s ionic strength. Thus, the k value was higher and the reaction was quick. For the third trial, the rate of reaction was 1.83x10 6 mol L 1 s 1, k was 0.305 mol2 L2 s 1, and the ionic strength was 0.1055 mol L 1 s 1. • 10. Radio Frequency Identification And Wireless Sensor... Abstract Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are two significant wireless technologies. RFID and WSNs are well known both identification and data transmission they are widely used in applications for environmental and health monitoring. Though the integration of RFID and WSNs fascinates little attention from the research community. In this paper, a Hybrid RFID and WSN system (HRW) that cooperatively integrates the traditional RFID and WSN systems for efficient data collection in large scale mobile monitoring applications. HRW has hybrid smart nodes that combine the function of RFID tags, the minimized function of RFID readers, and wireless sensors. Hence, nodes can read each other s sensed data in tags, and all data can be rapidly transmitted to an RFID reader through the node that first extends it. The RFID readers transmit the collected data to the back end servers for data processing and management. The result of the proposed method improves the performance of HRW in terms of the cost of arrangement, transmission suspends, capability and tags capacity requirement. .Index Terms Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), Hybrid RFID and WSN (HRW), RFID Reader, Integrates.  1 INTRODUCTION Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are two of the significant systems used in ... • 12. Hemoglobin And Sickle Cell Disease Ana Maria Sutac Biochemistry 370 11/13/2015 Hemoglobin and Sickle Cell Disease Introduction Sickle cell disease, also known as SCD, is a hereditary blood disorder that takes place due to mutation in the hemoglobin gene that is found in red blood cells. While it is said to have originated in Africa and is mostly predominant in African Americans, sickle cell disease is now common among different ethnic groups all over the world. Sickle cell anemia (HbSS) infects an estimated 70,000 to 100,000 Americans (Housman) and accounts for approximately 70% of anemia in the United States. Hemoglobin functions as an oxygen carrying protein as it carries oxygen from the lungs through the arteries and to the rest of the body. In sickle cell disease, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These subunits are held together by ionic, hydrogen bonds, van der Waals forces, hydrophobic interactions as well as heme groups that are made up of Fe2+. Hemoglobin can be found in two different states. The first state is known as the T state when it is tense and oxygen deprived. The second state is known as R state when is relaxed and oxygenated. Hemoglobin first binds to oxygen then transports it to blood vessels, which have low oxygen levels. After it releases the oxygen the blood vessels, the red cells then transports carbon dioxide (CO2) from the tissues to the lungs where it picks oxygen once more. Cooperativiy, Affinity, and Efficiency When a subunit binds to oxygen, it changes it conformation and sends messages to other subunits to bind to oxygen as well. When more hemoglobin monomers (subunits) bind to oxygen, it is increasing hemoglobin s affinity to oxygen, thus leading to better cooperativity. It was also discovered that there is a higher affinity for purified hemoglobin rather than the hemoglobin inside the red blood cells due to the anionic compound 2,3 bisphosphoglycerate (2,3 BPG). This molecule binds to hemoglobin in a small pocket only found in the T state when it is deoxygenized and allows it become stable. It further causes a reduction in hemoglobin s affinity to oxygen, working out in its favor. During the transition from T to R state, the pocket containing 2,3 BPG is broken and ... • 13. Much Ado About Nothing Structuralism Essay Like Father, Like Daughter: Structuralism Amongst the Women in Shakespeare During the Renaissance, it was common for women to behave in a certain manner in a patriarchal society. Women were subordinate to any man in their life, whether it was a husband or a father. However, Shakespeare creates female roles in his plays that often steer away from the common script. These women challenge, deceive, and steal from these men, including one s closest to them in their lives. In Merchant of Venice, young Portia and Jessica are two examples of these strayed female characters. They feel trapped in the hands of their father s and do their best to break free of that hold. In Much Ado About Nothing, Hero is a young woman who feels her relationship with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows the extreme version of a rebellious teenager in order to escape her father. Once Shylock finds out his daughter has disappeared with his money and jewels, he is outwardly upset with the fact that his possessions are gone. He even states that he wished his daughter were dead at [his] foot, and the jewels in her ear! Would she were hearsed at [his] foot, and the ducats in her coffin! (Act III, Scene i, 76 79). Surely, one can t believe there are any similarities in this relationship, however, structuralism shows the underlying pattern between Shylock and Jessica. Diane Dreher author of Domination and Defiance: Fathers and Daughters in Shakespeare, points out that the two hold a common trait: Greed. Shylock s greed is expressed through his constant talk on commerce and his precious ducats, and Jessica has inherited that ideology. Before running away with Lorenzo, she drops down a basket filled with money and jewels belonging to her father. One would assume it was an act of reprisal, however, Dreher argues it is greed much like her father s. She describes her as bad and disloyal, unfilial, a thief; frivolous, greedy, without any more conscience than a cat, (pg. 102). These two characters know that money holds a powerful position in their lives. Along with this greed, both are very determined characters in terms of fighting for what they want. With Shylock, he is constantly trying to receive justice through the deal he made with Antonio. Despite the strange request, he demands that he receives his pound of flesh from Antonio and stops at nothing to see it through. This passion can be seen in Jessica as well when she is determined to marry Lorenzo despite her father s wishes. She gets to the point of disguising herself as a man in order to be with him. The film stars Marlin Brando and Al Pacino as the leaders of a powerful family business of crime. The story is centred on Michael Corleone, and how he grows from a young man wanting nothing to do with the family business to a ruthless Don who will stop at nothing to exact his revenge. The movie grossed around 286 million dollars and is touted as one of the most successful films of all time, and in 1990 it was selected for preservation in the United States Film Registry. The film portrays many different character stereotypes commonly used in the Crime genre, and this helps to allow the viewer to identify with the characters better, as they already have an understanding of what their intentions are. Michael Corleone is the youngest son of Don Vito Corleone and, despite his families criminal background, he doesn t want anything to do with his father s bussiness. He can be considered the main protagonist of the story, however he fits under the character stereotype of the Villain, in accordance with the stock characters stated by narrative theorist Vladimir Propp. Michael is a returned war hero and is first introduced attending his sister Connie s wedding with his girlfriend, Kay. Much of Michael character is introduced to the viewer in this scene, primarily his disinterest in the family business. When he is talking with Kay about Johnny Fontaine, and what his ... Important cases and lawsuits will be covered as well, enabling the reader to understand why and how certain laws were created and questioned. The first acknowledgment of regulating film arrived in 1896 after Thomas Edison s landmark film, The Kiss. Critics of this film saw it as a threat to morality, thus raising questions on what should or should not be shown to the public. Shortly after concern over The Kiss, the first statute in movie censorship was enacted. The State of Maine implemented the statute in order to prevent the exhibition prizefight of the 1897 heavyweight championship between James Corbett and Bob Fitzsimmons. This opened the door for other organizations and states to regulate on their own terms. Mount Everest Climbers Mount Everest is the biggest mountain in the world, and because of that attracts many climbers to try and climb all 29,029 feet of it, but think about all the trash they leave behind while climbing. In 2013 4,000 people have reached Everest s summit, with many more attempting to. Mount Everest has a natural beauty, one that should be preserved, and people climbing the mountain and leaving their garbage on it is ruining it. Climbers have a negative impact on Mount Everest, and while journeying to the top, they are slowly destroying the mountain. First of all, the short article The World s Highest Mountain describes what Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay experienced and felt as they climbed Mount Everest and it shows the efforts that they made afterwards to help preserve and keep the mountain safe from the dangers of climbers. For instance, the text states that Hillary was also deeply concerned about the environment. He helped establish reforestation programs in Nepal. He also demanded that mountain climbers clean up the garbage that often got left behind on Mount Everest materials like used oxygen bottles, which climbers would discard because of their weight (Source #1 7). This shows that Sir Edmund HIllary and Tenzing Norgay understand how much trash climbers leave behind when climbing Mount Everest because they went on that climb and probably left some garbage on the mountain. Additionally, it allows the audience to see that climbing the mountain means leaving trash, and since Hillary understands this from his own climb, he is demanding people pick up their garbage. For example, paragraph 4 of The World s Highest Mountain it says that The goal Hillary and Norgay set for themselves wasn t easy. The pair encountered difficult challenges on the way to the summit, such as narrow ridges and 10,000 foot drops off the mountain. Hillary and Norgay s experience on the mountain proves to us just how difficult it is to climb Mount Everest. Discover Therapeutic Aptamers For Vegf165 And Egfr Discover therapeutic aptamers for VEGF165 and EGFR by high fidelity pentamer condon set Dehui Kong, Department of Chemistry, University of Georgia Introduction Aptamers are ssDNA or RNA oligonucleotides with very high affinity for their target. They bind to their target with high selectivity and specificity because of their well defined tertiary structures. Researchers speculate that aptamers have the potential to replace antibodies as high affinity reagents in medical diagnostics and therapy. SELEX (Systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment) is often used in evolve aptamers for various molecular targets[1]. The concept of using aptamers as therapeutic agents was first envisioned in the 1990s[2], with recent advances enabling their translation into the clinic[3]. In 2005, the first aptamer therapeutic was approved by the FDA to treat the wet form of age related macular degeneration[4]. Aptamers have impressive advantages over antibodies[5]: (i) the in vitro selection process does not require the use of animals or cell culture which enables toxic or non immunogenic targets aptamer selection;(ii) their generation through in vitro selection enables ready tuning of binding and specificity properties; (iii) their active structure can be reversibly formed by thermal denaturation and cooling; (iv) they exhibit excellent chemical stability and shelf life; (v) their chemical synthesis is predictable and scalable. However, a broader subject matter lay hidden in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus being established, literary devices are used in the description of the tank. The second stanza of Tank begins with a course of alliteration that is both an enlightening and confusing commentary on the poem. The cell was clean and cornered, and contained (line 5). Upon a visual appreciation of the line, c is repeated four times. However, when the line is spoken out loud, cell is pronounced with a soft se while clean and cornered, and contained are pronounced with a hard k sound. Gunn s use of adjectives to describe the man s surroundings are proof of the figurative difference between a cell and a tank. A cell is what the institution gives an inmate. It is exactly what Gunn has described it as: clean and cornered, and contained. A tank, relatively speaking, is a continuation of the cell, beyond what the institution issues. The word cell acts as a façade for the true definition of the word (the clean and cornered and contained aspect of the cell). The cell, in turn, is a part of the inmate s consciousness through exposure and constant scrutiny of surroundings and becomes the tank. The use of the past tense indicates the flow of events from a cell to a tank. The cell was clean and cornered and contained. Granted, the cell was all these, but what has the tank become? After all, the environment is described as the felon s tank in line one. Again, an insinuation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The initial process that brought this powerful group forward was the idea of Dr.Ethyl Percy. Dr. Percy is an important figure for retired teachers in the 1940 s (International Directory of Company Histories, 2009). Dr. Percy, is reflected as being the main female in history that led a high school platform as principle (International Directory of Company Histories, 2009). As retirement came forward, Dr. Percy had an interest in the well being of colleagues that retired as she, and had little means to live on. With this in mind, Dr.Percy initialized the National Retired Teachers Association beginning in 1947(International Directory of Company Histories, 2009). This tremendous woman added a living structure for the retired teachers and provided a nursing home, which she alone began. Dr. Percy joined forces with a gentleman named Leonard Davis, in the event that health insurance was in need to help pay for the facility. The Continental Casualty Company, which Mr. Davis was associated with, began enrolling these retired teachers in need and opened up the first policy for them in 1956(International Directory of Company Histories, 2009). • 44. The Effects Of Love In The Miracle Worker By Arthur Keller If love is judged by its visible effects, it often looks more like hatred. As stated in the quote, individuals tend to show their affection towards their loved ones in a rather aggressive fashion thus the process of expressing one s love to another is often interpreted as hatred. However, this misinterpretation only occurs when one s treatment of love is judged solely based on the visually observable aspects. These actions actually show an insight into their genuine love, but the clumsiness in expressing is what people mistakenly perceive as loathing and detestation. As a result, the relationship between individuals develop contrary to the original intents as it is followed by individual s actions, inevitably arousing disputes.
