Cause And Effect Of Video Games
The Effects of Video Games
Taz Ramsay
Lamar Community College
The Effects of Video Games Video games have been around since the early 1970 s . Computer
Space was the first video game to be produced, and it was created and developed by a company
called Nutting Associates. In 1972, a company called Atari introduced a game called Pong. Atari
was formed by a person named Nolan Bushnell, a developer of Computer Space, who left Nutting
Associates to found Atari, which then produced Pong. Pong was the first successful commercial
arcade video game . (How Stuff Works, 2017) How is a video game made? A video game is taken
through a step by step process requiring five main steps. The first step to making the video game
is the design or layout of the video game. The next step is to grabbing the materials needed to
make the game. The materials needed to make the game are different for each game, and it is
based on the game and/or game console. The third step in making a video game is going through
the manufacturing process. The steps include creating the story, captioning the games action with
art, recording dialogue and sound effects, writing the program, testing the game, burning the game
or disc, and packaging the game. These are all important for the next step of the next step in
making the game, which is ensuring the quality of the game. The final step is improvement,
because the producers want people to buy more games or stuff to help unlock stuff in the game.

Barbara Ehrenreich s Nickel And Dimed
Several things can influence how a person performs: gender, race, and even class. In a sense,
class could be considered the easiest thing to perform, and can also change the quickest. Nothing
needs to be drastically, physically changed in order to perform a different class than the one a
person is a part of. However, performing up or down in class takes a lot of effort. When someone
performs up in class, they were persecuted and looked down upon compared to someone who
performs down. By using the excerpt Serving in Florida from Nickel and Dimed by Barbara
Ehrenreichand the play, Six Degrees of Separation, by John Guare, we see how performing
different classes than the one each person is a part affect themselves and those around them In
Barbara Ehrenreich s Nickel and Dimed, Barbara went undercover to perform and learn about a
class that was not her own. Although it was for only a month, Barbara struggled to keep up the
effort and survive in a lower class than she was accustomed to. Even so, her co workers and the
people she met along the way did not realize she was performing down in her class. Maybe this
was because the people she surrounded herself with were also in similar class situations where
the fight to survive was more difficult, not allowing much space in thoughts for other people s life
stories. In Six Degrees of Separation, Paul performed up in class in search of friendship and
acceptance. Paul s performances, in terms of race, is cynical,

Anatomy And Physiology Of The Respiratory System
Section 1 : Anatomy and Physiology
The respiratory system, also known as the ventilatory system, is a series of organs found in the
human body. The system s primary function is performing respiration inhaling oxygen from the
environment and exhaling carbon dioxide out of the body (K.M Zimmermann, 2016). Oxygen acts
as fuel without it, the body would be unable to function. Carbon dioxide, the by product of this
process, is breathed out as it is toxic to the human body when it builds up (A.M Helminstine, 2016).
The main organs of the respiratory system are the lungs they are the location where the gas
exchange between oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place. The lungs therefore expand when you
breathe in, and retract when you breathe out. This is done through the diaphragm a sheet of muscle
that is positioned under the lungs. As one inhales, their diaphragm contracts and moves itself
downward, increasing the space for your lungs to expand to. The ribs also move to enlarge the
possible area the lungs can expand to. This pressure causes air to be sucked through the body to the
lungs. When one exhales, the opposite takes place the diaphragm moves upwards and returns to
normal, allowing the process to happen again.
Air can be breathed in through both the nose and the naval cavity, or the mouth, also known as the
oral cavity. The air, regardless of the path taken, will always lead to the pharynx, a space located at
the back of throat. It will progress through the larynx,

The Road to Bankruptcy of Detroit City Essays
The inevitable is no less a shock because it is inevitable ~ Jamaica Kincaid
Founded in 1701 by nearly 100 French settlers, Pontchartrain du Detroit was not doomed to
bankruptcy. Located near epicenters of trade including the Canadian Border and the Detroit River
and rich in resources Detroit, from a geographic sense, was a city established on lands destined to
prosper. Turning into an industrial powerhouse in the 20th century, the city saw an enormous boom
in both population and industrial prosperity with the growth of the iron stove, railroad car, and ship
building industries. It wasn t until auto manufacturing renaissance initiated with the founding of
Henry Ford Co. in 1910 that Detroit began it s nearly 100 year long descent ... Show more content

The first factor in Detroit s collapse was the undeniable success of the auto industry. The expansion
of the big three auto producers, Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors led the charge. In addition to
dominating the auto industry, the big three were largely responsible for the success of local
business throughout Detroit. Direct suppliers towards the auto companies themselves, and the
subsequent services provided to the auto workers and their families composed the majority of
Detroit business. The rapid expansion of the auto industry resulted in the industry s decentralization
with the city limits of Detroit and caused the expansion of the outlying areas surround Detroit. The
decentralization of industry had profound effects on the geography and on the population of the
city. The movement of jobs out of the city accelerated the process of suburbanization, as
autoworkers who could move followed their jobs. This trend is demonstrated by Census data,
showing that following the creating of new auto plants outside the city of Detroit resulted in the
total population dropping by nearly 300,0000 citizens by 1960. Following this decentralization,
the auto industry suffering from international competition and rising oil prices, was unable to
sustain the levels of economic output seen in years prior; and as a result, became a less desirable
place to live for both workers looking to relocate and current residents.

Kesha Symbolism
The release of Kesha s song, Praying signals the liberation of Kesha s musical purgatory after 4
years. Over the past few years, Kesha Rose was bound to an exclusive contract with Dr. Luke
which hasn t allowed her to release or produce any new music. She claimed in a lawsuit that this
contract enabled Dr. Luke to control every aspect of her life. Kesha has accused him of both
verbal and sexual abuse during this contract. As of March 2017, Dr. Luke s role as CEO of his
record company has been expired and Sony, the company that owned Dr. Luke s record label
didn t renew it, and has released Kesha from her contract. Now, Kesha is able to release new
music she writes on her own, all seen on her new album Rainbow which Praying is on. To
develop the underlying message of the song, Kesha uses setting, point of view, and symbolism
throughout her music video. Coming from a sensitive place in her life, Kesha uses setting in her
music video to convey her emotional state. In the music video Kesha starts off in a dark basement
surrounded by people dressed as pigs, whom she... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Solely in the music video Kesha states If I am alive, why? Why? What is the lesson? What is
the point?... God give me a sign or I have to give up. I can t do this anymore (Rose). Kesha s
point of view is in the first person revealing only her thoughts and feelings. She does this by
speaking in the background as an inner monologue, letting the viewer/listener know that she is
only asking herself these questions. Kesha is doing this because it shows how she feels and her
attitude towards not only her life, but the concept of why she should be alive. Kesha s point of
view demonstrates her true colors by revealing her tone through rhetorical questions in the
beginning of her music video that later set a path that reveal what happens next through her song

Big Joe Turner s Miss Rhythm Speaks Out
Under the guidelines for covers Ruth Brown established in her article, Miss Rhythm Speaks Out
, the cover version of Shake Rattle and Roll from Billy Haley and the Comets would be
considered legitimate. Due to the racial hardships of the time period, you can say that Big Joe
Turner didn t receive the credit or attention he deserved for the originality of his version, and
Billy Haley is indebted to him for that, but Haley s version is just as valid under her guidelines.
Ruth Brown wouldn t view Haley s version as a bare faced duplicate with no artistic merit
whatsoever because it isn t exactly note for note Turner s version (Ruth Brown, p. 12). Haley s
version moves at a much faster tempo and rhythm. It s pace also is much more upbeat... Show more

Cover songs were more a measure of the racial differences in the United States. Back then, many
covers signified racial segregation. Like Ruth Brown says, many African American artists
accepted the fact that white American artists were going to take their original piece and make it
their own. Today, this would be a major issue and verge on the issue of copyright infringement.
However, back then, perhaps it had a positive impact on both the white and black artists white
artists get to have success on the performance they create while African American artists gained
the extra exposure their song needed at the time to get popular. While many of us today may not
agree with this concept, American society and the industry would have only properly functioned
like this. Many times like in the case of Shake Rattle and Roll , the covers aren t close to the
original piece. Therefore, both the originals and the covers were equally different versions of the
same thing, so both artists deserved credit. However, in the case of songs like A Little Bird Told
Me by Paula Watson and the cover by Evelyn Knight, both versions were the same song note for
note. And even though this was considered fair game at the time, it was truly unfair of Knight to
use Watson s exact material, and the cover song should have not been successful or even released.

Daisy s Love Triangle In The Great Gatsby
The anger spreads like wildfire readers of F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel The Great Gatsby see that
Daisy Buchanan is going to stay with her cheating husband Tom Buchanan instead of leaving him
for Jay Gatsby. Where meeting Gatsby for the first time in many years, Daisy experiences what
seems to be a closer connection with Gatsby. A love triangle is then created between the three
which leads to an extraordinary argument between both Tom and Gatsby fighting over Daisy and
later leading to the death of Gatsby himself. Although many say Daisy should have not ended up
with Tom and Gatsby arguing that Daisy never loved Tom, she truly stayed with Tom due to him
gaining his wealth from old money and the impact society would have on her if she left... Show

With this Daisy see s that Tom will always have his wealth to support her whenever it is needed.
To respond to the arguments Gatsby made, Tom first argues that Daisy Doesn t know what she s
doing (pg 138). This argument made by Tom is important in his argument since saying that
about Daisy is almost a snap back into reality for Daisy. By her hearing what Tom said, Daisy is
able to realized that maybe she really does not know what she is doing by having any thoughts
about leaving for Gatsby while she is married to Tom. After that being said, Tom goes on to
expose Gatsby and his past secret life and how I picked him for a bootlegger the first time I saw
him, and I wasn t far wrong (pg 140). This argument made by Tom is his attempt to show how
people whose wealth is new money, which is what Gatsby qualifies under due to him earning his
money through the new bootlegging business, is not as respected as his own wealth coming
from old money, which is what Tom qualifies under since he was borned and raised in a wealthy
family and has always had a source of wealth to live off from. By Tom showing Daisy the bad
connotation Gatsby s wealth contains, he would want Daisy to realize how she is both better and
safer off with Tom who is wealthy with old money and will always be wealthy rather than Gatsby
who earned his wealth in a shady way and might not always have a wealthy

History of St. Valentine s Day
History of St. Valentine s Day
Introduction:
Saint Valentine s Day (commonly shortened to Valentine s Day) is an annual commemoration
(celebration) held on February 14 celebrating love and affection between intimate companions.
The day is named after one or more early Christian martyrs(s somebody who suffers death for the
people) named Valentine.
It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers,
offering confectionery (CANDY) (is the set of food items that are rich in sugar), and sending
greeting cards (known as valentines ).
Modern Valentine s Daysymbols include the heart shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the

в–Є St Valentine s Day is celebrated on February 14 of each year; the reason why it is celebrated
on this day is because this was the day that the Patron Saint of Lovers St Valentine was
supposedly executed on. On this day lovers all around the world mark this occasion as a day for
sending poems, cards, flowers or candy, etc. They might also be a social gathering or ball to mark
the occasion. Valentine Traditions в–Є Hundreds of years ago in England, many children dressed up
as adults on Valentine s Day. They went singing from home to home. One verse they sang was: в–Є
Good morning to you, valentine; Curl your locks as I do mine Two before and three behind. Good
morning to you, valentine. в–Є In Wales wooden love spoons were carved and given as gifts on
February 14th. Hearts, keys and keyholes were favourite decorations on the spoons. The decoration
meant, You unlock my heart! в–Є In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a
bowl to see who their valentines would be. They would wear these names on their sleeves for one
week. To wear your heart on your sleeve now means that it is easy for other people to know how
you are feeling. в–Є In some countries, a young woman may receive a gift of clothing from a
young man. If she keeps the gift, it means she will marry him. в–Є Some people used to believe

Indentured White Servants In Colonial America
The colonies of 1916 were desperate for labor and manpower, to grow enough food to stay alive
since agriculture and craftwork were key to the development of the colonies. The colonists thought
about forcing the Indians to work for them, but they were massively outnumbered (Zinn). Initially,
indentured white servants were used for labor, but there was not a sufficient quantity of them and
the amount of work was increasing. Fearing a servant revolt, the colonies resorted to using
African slaves rather than the servants. They relied on the slaves to work on the plantations or
mine precious metals. The Virginians needed labor to grow corn and tobacco. The rest of the
colonies also needed labor to work on similar plantations. Tobacco plantations required thousands
of workers meaning the owner wouldn t be making much profit. In the beginning, indentured white
servants were the answer. These were mainly the ones who could not afford a boat trip to America

The first is that these slaves had prior farming experience, knew how to grow crops unfamiliar to
the colonies, and they could teach these skills to their masters. The second advantage is that
Africans tended to be immune to malaria and yellow fever meaning they found a more efficient
way to grow rice. The last advantage was that slavery was like a disease. Enslavement laws stated
slaves were purchased once and then owned for their entire life. (Teaching U.S History) If a
slave had a child, that child would be enslaved for the rest of his or her life leading to multiple
generations of slaves. Slavery proved to be a plentiful investment for plantation owners. The slave
trade itself brought in a great amount of money to the colonies. For the areas that weren t thriving
off crops, they could just import or export slaves. Slavery proved to be a plentiful investment for

Challenges of Homosexuals in the 1960 s
Abstract
Every day homosexuals face challenges that heterosexuals do not. These challenges include
people giving them looks when they are walking down the street while holding hands with a
person of the same sex. They also face challenges in being accepted as a true family, this is
because in many states same sex marriage is deemed illegal. Over the decades people have
become more adjusted to homosexuals in society. In the movie If Walls Could Talk II Segment I
there is a lesbian couple who are very secretive of their relationship because of the fear of being
misjudged. In the time period that the movie took place people who were gay were look down

The definition of family is a group consisting of one to two parents and their children. This
definition does not say that the parents have to be one male and one female. There are many
families that consist of two female parents or two male and parent and children; you rarely saw
this in the 1960s but today you seemed to see this type of family more frequently.
This film also proved effective that if same sex marriage was legal then Edith would not have
had to face Ted taking her house and her belongings. Once Abby passed away Edith was faced
with the fact that Abby did not have a will that said that the house would be passed onto Edith.
Ted; her closest living relative was to be given all of Abby s belongings by law. If same sex
marriage was deemed legal during that time Edith would rightfully have possession of all of
Abby s belongings including the house. This would also allow Edith to have been able to see
Abby before she died because she would be deemed a family member. They proved this effective
because they showed that in the hospital that even if Edith would have said that she and Abby
were together she would still have not been able to see her legally. The movie also proved this by
showing that technically Edith did not have any right to the house because the mortgage was not in
her name regardless of her paying half of the mortgage. This gave Ted the rightful ownership of the
house.

Sylvia Earle, Explorer for National Geographic
Sylvia Earle was born on August 30, 1935 in Gibbstown, New Jersey. She was raised by her
parents on a small farm near Camden. When Sylvia was younger she enjoyed exploring the
woods that was nearby her home. She was very fascinated with the creatures and plants that
lived in the wild. Sylvia s parents loved nature as much as Sylvia does. They taught her to respect
the creatures of the wildlife and that she shouldn t be afraid of the unknown. When Sylvia was
thirteen, she moved to Florida, which is on the Gulf of Mexico. Soon Sylvia became very
interested learning about the wildlife in the Gulf and its coast. Then as she got older, Sylvia
wanted to go to college but her parents didn t have the money to send her to college. Luckily,
Sylvia was an outstanding student in school and won scholarships to Florida State. Through the
school years, Sylvia worked a lot in the college laboratories.
Sylvia went scuba diving in the Gulf of Mexico for the first time at the age of eighteen. From that

Creatine Supplements
Protein Powders and Creatine:
Are they beneficial?
Anyone from ordinary people to fitness junkies to professional athletes and Olympians, can benefit
from protein powders and creatine supplements. According to Richard Kreider of the University of
Memphis, it is more than a supplement for athletes... it helps you maintain muscle mass and that has
long term health benefits . These supplements are meant to accommodate a healthy diet, not to be a
replacement for food. When used correctly, creatineand protein powders are beneficial for
everyone.
High quality protein supplements can be very beneficial for weight loss. When trying to lose
weight, it is essential to lose fat instead of muscle tissue. According to Lisa Leupp, adequate
protein is essential for maintaining lean muscle mass . If you are dieting and weight loss is
coming from muscle mass, you will have less energy and will not be able to perform as long. It has
been established that an average adult should take .36 grams of protein per pound of body weight.
If the diet is a reduced calorie diet, than even more protein should be consumed to maintain muscle

horse would never try to hurt me, and he never tried, he just slipped... Before any of this
happened we have my mentor and influencer making my legs, arms, back, and core more
powerful. It was our lesson before a show, so I guess the horses were extra jumpy and
enthusiastic, which was making us a little more nervous. We started like any normal lesson, just
another girl fell off her eager horse, but she got back on like anyone would do. My coach told us if
anyone else fell off then we have to pay her somewhere around $1500, little did

Mountain Top Removal Essay
Mountain Top removal mining (MTM), is decimating some of the last pristine environments left
in our country, and it needs to stop. The devastation left in the wake of mans pursuit to satisfy his
insatiable greed for energy, is nothing shy of a brutal crime scene. I feel, like many others, it has
got to be stopped, and replaced with a more sensible, and appropriate, appetite for energy. The
severe health, and environmental risks are abundant, yet we continue to mask this atrocity behind
statistics, and well orchestrated advertising. As noted by RP Siegel of Triple Pundit Magazine
(April 2012), Coalcontains the most CO2 per BTU, the largest contributor to global warming.
Obviously, this should be enough to convince the average, sensible individual that there is no more
tolerance for continued MTM practices. However, big mining companies continue to destroy
delicate ecosystems, rural family lands, and cause irreversible damage to the geological
infrastructure of the land.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the sides of the mountaintops. Once lit, they completely blow the entire surface, and subterranean

the physical damage. For example the leaching of coal ash, methane, Sulfur Dioxide, and nuclear
radiation (Uranium) emitted from the soil particulates, are just a few of the contaminants released.
The slurry that is left behind, is then crudely covered with surrounding topsoil, and scattered with
seeds. Many times the seeds that are left behind are invasive species, which then rapidly consume

History of the Eucharist
History of the Eucharist The Sacrament of Eucharist is the most frequently received Sacraments in
the Catholic Church. The matter in the Sacrament of Eucharist is the bread and wine, which
changes into the body and blood of Jesus Christ. The Sacrament of Eucharist is dated in the Bible
as far back to the Old Testament, indirectly as the Israelites flee from Egypt in the desert, and God
gives them manna to eat. This happens multiple times while the Israelites are searching for the
Promised Land. The most important part of the Bible when the Eucharistis received, is when Jesus
and the Apostles are at the Last Supper. Through the Sacrament of Eucharist, Jesus breaks the
bread and passes it around to his apostles. Then, Jesus says that one of them will betray him, and
whoever dips the bread in the wine at the same time he does will be the one who will betray him.
As we know Judas was the one who betrayed him, and must have been the one to dip the bread in
the wine at the same time as Jesus. Even though all the Gospel writers wrote about Jesus Matthew,
Mark, and Luke wrote about the meal Jesus had with his Apostles the night before his death, not

candy bar overall. When discussed, people have disputed on whether the flavors in the candy bars
are tastier, which candy bar is healthier, and which has more appeal in advertising.Even though
Snickers and Twix bars are made by the same company (Mars) they are very different. Snickersfans
might say that Snickers bars are the best because they have peanuts in the bar, this might be true for
the majority people, but not those with allergies. This evidence proves that Twix is the best candy
bar.
One of the reasons that people think that Twix is the best candy bar is its overall appeal.
Furthermore, the wafer adds to the overall appeal. Compared to Snickers which has a chewy
nougat, Twix s wafer is crunchy and thick. One satisfied customer said All time favorite chocolate,

The Twix wrapper is gold and shiny. This will catch people s eyes and draw them to Twix. Like
one customer, out of many Twix customers, who said, First off, the packaging is great, eye
catching shiny gold. It makes me feel like I m about to buy something priceless. Also the gold
represents the caramel in the candy bar. A good selling strategy to have two bars, so that the
customer feels like they are getting more. Having two candy bars helps the customer feel like
they are getting more in one package. It also helps with the advertisement. The ads also help sell
the product, with the competition between left and right Twix. The ad features two factories, left
and right, and each factory thinks the other one copied their candy bar. This is entertaining
because they make the same thing with the same ingredients. Now when you buy a package of the
fun size Twix the bars are packaged saying whether it is left or right, and the customer can decide

The Development Of Abolitionism And Anti Slavery
This paper is on the history of the development of abolitionism and anti slavery in Allegany
County, New York. Allegany County began shortly before the end of slavery in New York and
underwent its early period of development in a time when abolitionism, moral reform movements,
and related social developments were occurring across Western New York and other parts of the
country. This paper will draw on a variety of sources, including archival documents, biographies,
monographs, and information provided by local historians, to present an understanding of the
developments which occurred. It will make the case abolitionismin Allegany was developed through
an interactive and participatory process between the local population, reformist ideas, social
developments, relationships of mutual influence with non local elements.
Allegany County began in the period of the gradual abolition of slavery in New York. Significant
American settlement in the area began near the arrival of the 19th century and the county was
declared in 1806. In 1799, New York State had begun a legal process of gradual emancipation of
slaves, which culminated in its full prohibition in 1827. In this early period, most settlers did not
own slaves, some significant groups (such as a Rhode island group of Seventh Day Baptists who
settled in Nile and Alfred) came into the county with anti slavery views, and the local
Haudenosaunee were largely unfriendly in sentiments toward slavery. But a relatively small

Essay On Freelance Writing
Freelance Writing Mistakes That Could Ruin Your Career
Freelance writing is certainly a lucrative venture if you re looking for a side hustle to supplement
your income. In fact, if you play your cards right, freelance writing could be your main and best
source of income. However, most online writers end up making unavoidable mistakes that destroy
their freelancing careers long before they ve had a chance to grow. There are, of course, hundreds
of mistakes you could potentially make, but this article focuses on # of the worst.
Poor marketing

Your level of professionalism could make or break your freelance writing career. You should always
be polite regardless of the client s temperament. But professionalism is more than just how you
address your client. It also includes your availability, communication, integrity, etc.
Overconfidence
Much as you should be confident in your skills as a writer, you should never let this get in your
head. Overconfidence often pushes people to make mistakes and you shouldn t consider yourself
an exception. Freelance writing involves a lot of criticism, learning, and mistakes. As an online
writer, you should understand that you are neither perfect nor are you all knowing. Therefore, you
should always be open to criticism and suggestions, have an understanding of your limitations, and
always make an effort to learn more about your field of experience. The greater danger with being
overconfident is that despite making mistakes you remain oblivious. This, in turn, increases the
likelihood of repeating the same mistakes and destroys the client s confidence in you. On the same
breath, let me point out that as a freelancer, you should never consider yourself indispensable. Your
work might be exceptional but you can always be replaced. Knowing this should help you fight to

Theme Of Feudal Class In The Canterbury Tales
Now I have told you shortly, in a clause,/ The rank, the array, the number and the cause/ Of our
assembly in this company (lines 711 14). Geoffrey Chaucer explains to his readers that he has
given a full description of each of his fellow pilgrims in his General Prologue to The Canterbury
Tales. Along with naming each character, he provides their profession which classifies each
pilgrim into one of three social classes: the religious class, the merchant class, or feudal order.
Chaucer provides a social commentary of the major social classes of his day, and though he
criticizes characters from each class, he most heavily criticizes the religious class more than any
other. Geoffrey Chaucer, author of The Canterbury Tales, is in favor of

The last character Chaucer describes in the feudal class is the Miller, a large and imposing man.
The physical description of him given includes, His beard, like any sow or fox, was red... (138).
The color red suggests that the Miller may be a Scotsman, the British and Scottish historically
disliked each other, perhaps extending to Chaucer. Furthermore, Chaucer stated that the Miller
was ... a master hand at stealing grain. He felt it with his thumb and thus he knew its quality and
took three times his due... (138). Clearly, the Miller is portrayed as a thief who takes what he
wants and is not above violence to achieve his goals. While everyone but the Miller are admired
in the feudal class, the people in the merchant class are both admired and criticized leaving
Chaucer s feeling to be neutral to the merchant class. Throughout Chaucer s Canterbury tales, he
describes the merchant class as more of neutral type of people, some are admired while others are
criticized. The author uses his personal knowledge to better explain his thoughts about the
characters who belong to the merchant class. The first one he mentions from the merchant class is
the Merchant, he is described as sitting high on his horse as well as making it to where none knew
that he was bad in debt. The narrator states that he does not care much about him, enough so that he
does not know his name. The next character Chaucer mentions is the

Persuasive Essay On Bottled Water
Today water bottles are marketed all over the world, and about 1,000 bottles are consumed every
second. In fact, it has been reported that 200 billion water bottles are sold globally collecting 60
billion dollars. Additionally, bottled water was created for being portable, because of ordinary tap
water quality, safety and health concerns, and as a substitute for sugary drinks. In contrast, bottled
water shouldn t be around anymore because they have become a health and environmental issue.
Water bottleshave been proven to be hazardous to human health due to the large number of
chemicals found in them. Most of the bottles are not biodegradable, which damages the
environment. Despite them being portable, alternative to tap water, and a substitute for sugary
drinks bottled water shouldn t be used anymore because they are hazardous to the environment,
human and animal life.
It is ironic that water bottles were brought up for safer and purer water, but retains an exceedingly
number of chemicals. In the U.S, there are an abundance of organizations that deem what are
harmless for humans to consume. The Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulate
bottled water, however tap water is overseen by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which
has higher standards than the FDA meaning some bottles aren t even approved to rinse your hands
with. More importantly, bottled waters contain contaminates, chemical contaminates, pesticides,
disinfectants, and radioactive materials. Equally important, bottled water has contaminants of
Coliform (rod shaped bacteria), Arsenic (poison), Chloride (a compound of chlorine), Iron,
Manganese (resembles iron and is used in fertilizer), phenols (Poisonous acidic compounds), Zinc,
and Fluoride (deliberately added to some bottled water). Not to mention the most popular chemical
BPA, the chemical applied to form the plastic solid and transparent. Some water bottles contain
about 15 milligrams of chemical contaminants from 10 different chemicals. The FDA did not band
pesticides from the bottled water, but they arrayed the levels and limits for each of 29 different
pesticides. As well as disinfection byproducts, a chemical compound formed by the reaction of a

Coretta Scott King On Capital Punishment
Death penalty or capital punishment is a legal procedure carried out by the government of a state
which sentences a convicted person to death. Capital punishment has been a matter of controversy
for various decades now. According to some people, such as the Swiss President Burkhalter (2014)
death penalty is a valid act of justice whereas, Coretta Scott King opposes such practices. The main
purpose of this argumentative synthesis essay is to point out the differences and similarities
between the two articles, namely The Death Penaltyis a step back by Coretta Scott King (1969) and
The Penalty of Death by H.L.Mencken (1926), and to also the validity of the arguments provided.
Both Mencken and King provide their own opinions on the issue of death penalty; whether it is an
ethical practice or not. As the title suggests, Coretta Scott King expresses her feelings about capital
punishment and states reasons to back her belief that the death penalty is both a racist and immoral
practice. Whereas, Mencken satirically criticizes the typical ... Show more content on

The Last Supper With Jesus And The Synoptic Gospels
The Synoptic Gospels describe The Last Supper with Jesus performing many of the traditional
elements found during the Jewish Passover as detailed in Exodus. Jesus, himself, was a Jewish
man and celebrated this tradition as a part of his faith, so it makes sense that this final meal could
hold traditional aspects of a PassoverSeder. The three Synoptic Gospels seem to demonstrate
parallels between a typical Passover celebration and The Last Supper that Jesusperformed. The
Gospelof Luke even calls in a Passover meal in chapter 22 verse 15.
Joachim Jeremias , The Eucharistic Words of Jesus, comments that there are at least 14 specific
parallels between Jesus Last Supper and the Passover Seder as seen through Exodus and the
Synoptic Gospels. These 14 points include, worship, discussion of the symbolism of the meal,
and bread being consumed. The three Synoptic Gospels tell of Jesus breaking bread with the
disciples to symbolize his body which is a parallel to the unleavened bread that the Jewish
people were to eat during their Passover meal. In two of the Synoptic Gospels, the group
finishes their meal by singing a hymn before leaving the room which follows Moses command
from God to the Israelites to worship Him after all the other commands that the Lord had given
them for the Passover. During Passover, the recalling of the original event and symbolism of the
parts of the meal are to be told and the same traditions are to be followed as the Lord had

Screwtape Letters Summary
The Screwtape letters is another great work of Lewis where he uses imagination to explain the
truth upside down through letters between two devils. It is like reverse psychology in a way for
example if something is good in Screwtape then it is bad in reality or if something is a setback it
is actually a victory in struggles against evil ( Brown 177). Lewis then talked about his idea of
the devil ; he does not believe the devil is the opposite force against God, rather he says it is
angels that have become bad. He goes on to explain that these demonic representations are just
symbolic and these symbols of concrete reality are used in the Screwtape letters(Brown 178). The
first letter is basically saying that Wormwood (the younger devil) cannot use reading and... Show

Ward Wrote There has been a dichotomy between reason and imagination ever since the
Enlightenment of the 17th and 18th centuries. Reasonable people don t need imagination.
Imaginative people don t need reasons (3). Then why do we believe in Lewis s collaboration of
reason and imagination that makes him so successful? The answer is that reason judges
between meanings that right and wrong and imagination produces these meanings (Ward 3).
Lewis s works described above give an account about this especially Mere Christianity. He
showed that all worldviews have some flaws but Christianity is a myth that is true. He fulfills
our inner desires and baptizes our intellectual minds. Lewis s mission was to live like a disciple
of Christ himself and helped make Disciples of Christ in heart and mind. He despised the idea of
biblical separation and was a firm believer of Christian unity and influenced movements based on
this unity in different parts of the world especially among evangelicals (Ryken 10). This is

The Importance Of Maintaining The Correct Acid Base Balance
The importance of maintain the correct acid base balance in the body is crucial for a healthy
lifestyle. Human bodies are very sensitive to pH levels and must be maintained to prevent any
health issues. The term pH means potentials oh hydrogen. To function properly our blood pH is
regulated at 7.4. The degree of acidity or alkalinity is referred to as the acidbase balance. The
acidity levels increase when the acidic compounds in the bloodincrease of the alkaline compounds
in the blood fall. Alkalinity increases when the reverse occurs. The levels of alkaline and acidic
compounds depend on the body s intake, production or decreased elimination or vice versa. If the
pHrises or falls increasingly the body s proteins and enzymes can denature and stop functioning.
This can cause serious diseases such as cancers or even death. Therefore, our body has essential
mechanisms in place to regulate the pH of our blood.
Regulating acid base balance:
The main functions of the body that deal with maintaining acid base balance are the buffer, renal
and respiratory systems.
Buffer System:
Normal metabolism produces hydrogen in the form of acids; to maintain the pH of the blood the
acids are buffered or removed from the body. A buffer works in a pair, a weak acid is activated
when the pH is at risk from a strong base/ a weak base is activated when the pH is at risk from a

Stereotypes In The Hunger Of Memory By Richard Rodriguez
Society will continue to judge humanity based on race, culture, and intelligence. Stereotypes
affect how citizens determine their future. Demonstrated in the excerpt The Hunger of Memory,
Richard Rodriguez faces stereotypes when he travels to the United States to achieve a higher

intelligent based of his ethnic background. Both of these authors futures are influenced

Oedipus The King Research Paper
Tragedies are events that cause great suffering, distress, and destruction, such as a serious
accident, crime or natural catastrophe. One example of a tragedy is Oedipus The King, written
by Sophocles around 441 B.C. Many events in this tragedy take place and cause the main
character, Oedipus, to reach his downfall. Oedipus intelligence, pursuit of truth, and hot temper
all contribute to his downfall. Oedipus intelligence is one thing that leads to his downfall. When
Oedipus first came to Thebes he had solved the riddle of the sphinx. Because of this, the Priest

The Health And Human Services Commission
Texans are being short changed by the proposed Medicaid cuts. Legislature has told the Texas
Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) that they must cut $350 million from the
Medicaid funding over the next two years. In order to abide by the legislature s demands, the
HHSC has proposed cutting the reimbursement rates for pediatric physical and occupational
therapists on average by 10 to 25 percent. And pediatric speech therapists would face cuts of 16 to
27 percent. Many feel that these cuts to the therapypayments have little to no effect on the services

has been expressed that cutting therapy funds that the Stateof Texasprovides has the potential to

Chimney Sweeper By William Blake Analysis
Sociologist Max Weber recognized that, as technology expands, as does the gap between the
lower class and rich. His studies came from watching the Industrial Revolution take place and
the social system change from feudalism to capitalism. Similarly, William Blake, who lived in
Industrial Revolution era England, witnessed this widening gap firsthand. Commenting on the
inhumane labor practices common to the poor in 19th century England, he wrote 2 versions of a
poem called The Chimney Sweeper in different collections Songs of Innocence (1789) and
Songs of Experience (1794). With these poems, Blake comments on the practice of using small
children as chimney sweepers, drawing attention to the inhumanity and immorality of the
practice and the way it s overlooked. In the Songs of Innocence version, Blake writes a narrative
from the point of view of a child laborer. The tone is full of youthful innocence, which harshly
contrasts the somber truth of the speaker s situation. The speaker is a young child, as implied in
clever onomatopoeia in line 4, Could scarcely cry weep! weep! weep! weep! In these lines, the
speaker means both literally a weep, as well as the word sweep, which, if said by a young child,
may sound like weep. With this clever word choice, Blake invites readers to profoundly pity the
poor child, as he is so young that he cannot even speak properly, yet sent to his death anyway. The
child s innocence continues to be of presence, shaping the poem. In later

Using the rating system previously described, we asked consumers to rate their laptops if they

you believe that it is a great value for its price.
On the next question, we asked consumers to rate their laptops on a uniqueness and design.
Here, Apple blew away Dell with an overall rating of 6.3 compared to Dell s 3.9. Perhaps this could
be a reason why Apple laptops appeal to consumers that seek a cool looking laptop.
When asked if their laptops provide them with everything they need, both Dell and Apple scored

conclude that this factor has any effect on consumer s switching between brands.
Reliability was another characteristic that we asked about in our survey. In this, Apple received a
much higher overall rating than Dell, receiving a rating of 6.0 vs Dell s 4.8. However, if you look
at the rating Dell owners gave for Dell laptops,

Electricity Generation
Electricity generation is the process of creating electricity from other forms of energy.
The fundamental principles of electricity generation were discovered during the 1820s and early
1830s by the British scientist Michael Faraday. His basic method is still used today: electricity is
generated by the movement of a loop of wire, or disc of copper between the poles of a magnet.[1]
For electric utilities, it is the first process in the delivery of electricity to consumers. The other
processes, electricity transmission, distribution, and electrical power storage and recovery using
pumped storage methods are normally carried out by the electrical power industry.
Electricity is most often generated at a power station by electromechanical ... Show more content on

The combustion of fossil fuels supplies most of the heat to these engines, with a significant
fraction from nuclear fission and some from renewable sources. The modern steam turbine
invented by Sir Charles Parsons in 1884 today generates about 80 percent of the electric power in
the world using a variety of heat sources.

Large dams such as Three Gorges Dam in China can provide large amounts of hydroelectric power;
it will have a 22.5 GW capability.

A combined cycle natural gas power plant near Orem, Utah.
All turbines are driven by a fluid acting as an intermediate energy carrier. Many of the heat engines
just mentioned are turbines. Other types of turbines can be driven by wind or falling water.
Sources include: * Steam Water is boiled by: * Nuclear fission, * The burning of fossil fuels (coal,
natural gas, or petroleum). In hot gas (gas turbine), turbines are driven directly by gases
produced by the combustion of natural gas or oil. Combined cycle gas turbine plants are driven
by both steam and natural gas. They generate power by burning natural gas in a gas turbine and
use residual heat to generate additional electricity from steam. These plants offer efficiencies of
up to 60%. * Renewables. The steam generated by: * Biomass * The sun as the heat source: solar

Modern Day Dress Codes
For decades to even centuries, dress codes have been established for people of every single era.
Whether it may be the 1990 s and 2000 s, the people of that era created a new sense of style in
which was passed down to other generations until this very modern day. New patterns and colors
were added to clothingbringing in a new dress code for that time period. The styles, we as
individuals come up with , are our presumptions that we have created them. The styles we may
have in our modern day may seem unique and authentic, however they are an accumulations of pass
styles added with a unique twist to it. Unlike the 1990 s, the 2000 s introduced a new sense of style
to people allowing them to express themselves through their clothing. When you

Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis
Chapter 2 Vendor Evaluation and Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis 2.1 Vendor Evaluation
Supplier or vendor selection decisions are complicated by the fact that various criteria must be
considered in decisions making process. The analysis of criteria for selection and measuring the
performance of suppliers has been the focus of many scientists and purchasing practitioners since
1960s. The majority of research about supplier selection problem mentions Dickson s study [9]. It is
based on a questionnaire sent to 273 purchasing agents and managers selected from the membership
list of the National Association of Purchasing Managers, which include agents and managers from
the United States and Canada. Dickson s study describes the importance of 23 criteria for supplier
selection which are classified with respect to their importance observed in the beginning of the
sixties. At that time, the most significant criteria are quality of the product, the on time delivery, the
performance history of the supplier and the warranty policy used by the supplier. Table 2.1 Dickson

An adult female was arrested the 4200 block of Auburn Way North for DUI.%
The following occurred in the City of Auburn, King County, WA:
On February 9, 2016, at approximately 2220 hours I was travelling north in the
2100 block of Auburn Way North, when I noticed a vehicle, turn northbound onto
Auburn Way North from 22ND ST NE. As the vehicle turned northbound (left) it took a wide slow
turn. The vehicle speed up quickly as I was attempting to close the distance on the vehicle I noticed

McGuire had one passenger in the front seat. I noticed McGuire s red were red, bloodshot and
glassy. I asked McGuire for her registration, license, and insurance. When McGuire was retrieving
her license used the pads of her fingers to get the license out. As McGuire spoke I noticed her
speech was slow and slurred. McGuire provided the requested documentation. McGuire repeatedly
told me she had been crying.
I returned to McGuire s vehicle and asked her to step from the vehicle, she complied. Once outside
the vehicle I noticed an odor of intoxicants coming from
McGuire s person. I asked McGuire how much she had to drink tonight, and she said, a couple. I
asked McGuire how much was a couple and she said earlier they were at the Casino. McGuire said
she was coming from the Casino.
I asked McGuire if she was willing to do some voluntary field sobriety tests to make sure she was
okay to drive, she said she would. McGuire said she had no physical impairments. I demonstrated
and conducted the field sobriety tests in accordance with my training.
The first test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus. During this test I had to tell McGuire multiple
times to keep her head still. Additionally, during the entire test McGuire swayed in a circular
manner. I observed lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained Nystagmus at max deviation and
angle of onset prior to 45 degrees in both

The Debate Of Abortion
The debate over if abortion should be legal or not has always been a controversial issue. Opponents,
identifying themselves as pro life, claim that abortion is the killing of an innocent. Proponents,
identifying themselves as pro choice, claim that abortion is a fundamental right to all women thus;
it should be allowed. One argument against abortionis that it is murder. This argument assumes that
life begins at conception, so the unborn have a right to life. Nevertheless, personhood begins after a
fetusis viable. Embryos are not self determined. Abortion is terminating a pregnancy, not a baby.
Age is counted from birth not conception. Critics of abortion point out that the baby can feel pain
during the procedure. Many argue that

Zara Competitive Advantage
The need to emphasize on all aspects of a supply chain is necessary, especially innovativeness,
information, resources, outputs and flexibility, because their performance, which is based upon
their management and processes, directly influences the competitive advantage of a company.
Therefore, improving the performance of a supply chain is very critical for achieving competitive
advantage. Improving the performance of a supply chain is not a one time process rather, it s a
continuous process for the company and its supply chain network to sustain and gain further
competitiveness (Cai et al., 2009). Due to ever increasing competition and changing technological
environment, companies are more inclined towards partnering with their suppliers... Show more

trends emerge, Zara can reach quickly. More interestingly, Zara runs its supply chain like
clockwork, with a fast but predictable rhythm: every store place orders on Tuesday/Wednesday
and Friday/Saturday. Trucks and cargo flights run on established schedules like a bus service. From
Spain, shipments reach most European stores in 24 hours, US stores in 48 hours, and Asian stores
in 72 hours. Not only does store staff know exactly when shipments will arrive, regular customers
know too, thus motivating them to check out the new merchandise more frequently on those days,
which are known as Z days in some cities. Overall, supply chain management has become an
integrated system that mutually reinforces each other and has propelled Zara s formidable rise

satisfied, they were less likely to leave their profession for a different one. Without teachers there

Article one is a study where they examined the influence of scapular position on the core muscles
during a prone plank. The study was conducted to test the electromyography activity in connection
with the scapular position. The limitations of the study are not clear to me. After reading the study
though I would say that the bodies of the participants could be a limitation. Human individuals are
able to withstand different things within the own comfort. The ADRET seemed to be the most
changeling for the participants, due to the posterior pelvic tilt position. With the pelvic tilt creating

It is a good feeling when I am able to recall and use what I have learned to help my residents in
my current work position. I feel like it will benefit me now more than later. Being a CNA in rehab

weak muscles versus young adult athletics. When trying to build muscle or even doing common
exercises, each individual s muscles are able to withstand a different amount. Finding something
that works well for everyone can be challenging. I would recommend the ABRET for the
standard plank position. This position allows the muscle within the body to work together to
reach a common goal. With the dorsal section of the body being as flat as possible all the
muscles and able to use the strength of those around it to maintain posture, to prevent tears or
injury. The measurements of the rating of perceived exertion (RPE) were taking to assure that the
perceived effort was only on the plank assessment that was being tested at that given time. I feel

The Importance Of Media Literacy
Indeed, the pervasiveness of media in its abundant forms in contemporary US culture is
undeniable. Almost everywhere one looks, one can find forms of media; a magazine at a doctor s
office, a billboard alongside a freeway, a painting at an art gallery, a performance on television or
on stage. Media, undeniably, is ubiquitous. However, in all the innumerous forms mediacomes to us
in, every one of these forms is created for a single purpose; to communicate an idea or message.
Thus, it the individual s ability to interpret these forms and decipher their meaning has become
critical. But how are students, as well as educators, supposed to interact and interpret media?

7 8). Hoechsmann Poyntz furthers Buckingham s argument by eloquently writing, Rather than
being positioned as victims, a focus on media... addresses the complex ways youths become agents
in their life and the lives of others (Hoechsmann Poyntz, 2012, p. 109).
Indeed, because the singular purpose of media is to convey an idea or a message to the masses,
media must have an audience; which is to say a group who consumes it. Further, because of its
omnipresence in US culture, media will certainly almost always have an audience; for anyone who
is exposed to media may be considered part of its audience; whether they consciously acknowledge
their participation or not. Consequently, through a variety of forms, such as access to television and
the internet, children today are exposed to media from a very early age. Assuredly, as
Buckingham suggests, starting from a young age of even four or five, children have already
started interacting with media (Buckingham, 2004, p. 41 45). Subsequently, children, from a very
early age, most certainly, are members of the media s audience. However, the central question
presented here is whether children should be forced to remain a passive consumer or be
encouraged to become an audience s active participant.

Racial Disparity Essay
To: Chief David O. Brown
From: Angela James Flemister
Re: Racial Disparity in Dallas County
April 16, 2017
Issue Presented: How can the societal issues of racial disparity be addressed on the state and local
levels?
Short Answer: Some of the key historical events that are referenced most often in regard to racial
disparity include the unarmed beating of Rodney King, the racial profiling of a black Harvard
professor, and the many unwarranted shootings and deaths of black men across the nation. But for
these few named instances, these are the ones that are indicative of the many differences that mold
the way the criminal justice system is perceived in society today. Eliminating critical criminal
disparities within the criminal justice system should be one of many practices that should be
addressed. These consequences are adverse effects of some form of disproportional involvement.

A Book On A Dirt Road Near The Village Of Weydon Priors
The novel opens on a dirt road near the village of Weydon Priors, in the English county of
Wessex. Michael Henchard, a hay trusser, is traveling with his wife, Susan, and young daughter,
Elizabeth Jane. However, a passing farmer tells the Henchards that there is no chance of finding
employment or housing in the village. Discouraged, Michael takes his family to a furmity seller s
tent in Weydon Priors. The furmity seller adds liquor to Michael s meal, and after several servings
Michael becomes an angry drunk. Because he believes his marriageat a young age ruined all his
chances for success, he offers to sell his wife and daughter to the highest bidder. After several
unanswered calls for bids, Susan says that someone should buy her, since her present owner isn t
to her liking. Most of the other customers in the tent treat the auction as a joke, but soon a passing
sailor hears the announcements and enters the tent. He offers to buy Susan and Elizabeth Jane for
five guineas, first making sure that Susan is willing to go. When Michael takes the money, Susan
and Elizabeth Jane leave with the sailor. Before leaving, Susan hurls her wedding ring at Michael.
Michael merely falls into a drunken slumber as the rest of the shocked customers leave.
The next morning, Michael awakens. Seeing the wedding ring and the money brings the events of
the previous evening back to him. He realizes that he was partly to blame for his actions, but he
also blames Susan for actually thinking that

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Essay
Definition
An AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysm) is defined as enlargement of at least 3 cm of the
abdominal aorta. The majority of abdominal aortic aneurysms begins below the renal arteries and
ends above the iliac arteries. The exact cause of (AAAs) is unknown. However, it is thought to be
due to a degenerative process of the abdominal aorta caused by atherosclerosis. Artherosclerosis
represents a response to vessel wall injury caused by inflammation, genetically regulated defects in
collagen and fibrillin, increased protease activity within the arterial wall, and mechanical factors
(Stoelting p. 143).
Pathophysiology
The abdominal aorta consists of three distinct tissue layers including: the intima, media, and
adventicia. There is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is an increase in the concentration of proteolytic enzymes compared to their inhibitors in
the abdominal aorta as age progresses. It is also thought that metalloproteinases (MMPs) may be
a factor in the development of AAAs (Stoelting p. 143). There is an increase in expression and
activity of MMPs in people with AAAs. MMPs are present in normal aortic tissue and are
responsible for vessel remodeling. These proteinases are secreted into the extracellular matrix of
AAAs by aortic smooth muscle cells and macrophages. Increased MMP activity favors the
degradation of collagen and elastin in aneurysmal tissue (Laake).
Signs and Symptoms
Patients with ruptured AAAs present in many different ways. The most common manifestation of
rupture is back pain with a pulsatile abdominal mass and hypotension. Additional symptoms may
include syncope, flank mass, groin pain, or paralysis (Dalman and White). Unstable patients with a
suspected ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm need immediate operation and control of the
proximal aorta without preoperative confirmatory testing or optional volume resuscitation
(Stoelting, p. 144).
Anesthesia Management
Surgical intervention is presently the only effective method of treating AAAs. The risk of surgical
repair is outweighed by the risk of aneurysm rupture or aneurysm related death. Patients

The Current Staff
Problem Strategy In observing the Dept. of Motor Vehicles transaction process, it demonstrates a
complicated and redundant registration structure. In the licensing center, drivers must navigate the
decentralized facility, moving from station to station with documents and verification forms
(Dresang, 2012). In this situation, the driver must have the correct paperwork and follow the right
line order or risk restarting the process. Therefore, the DMV must consider training current
employees to process all required paperwork and payments as well as provide license plates. As a
result, the registration process is centralized and streamlined because the organization creates a one
stop processing center.
Feasibility The training of the current staff involves an individualistic level change, where the
organization focuses on improving employees to create an efficient processing system (Miller,
2002). In creating a centralized process, it requires significant staff training and development. The
Human Resources (HR) department will analyze the workload, environment, and schedules to
create training plans [in house training videos, manuals, and on site instructions] and adjust job
descriptions and offer compensation. The organization will provide cross training and manage the
employee s knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the new task and adhere to new policies. As a
result, it takes a few months, approximately six months, for crossed trained employees to

Computer Space was the first video game to be produced, and it was created and developed by a company called Nutting Associates. In 1972, a company called Atari introduced a game called Pong. Atari was formed by a person named Nolan Bushnell, a developer of Computer Space, who left Nutting Associates to found Atari, which then produced Pong. Pong was the first successful commercial arcade video game . (How Stuff Works, 2017) How is a video game made? A video game is taken through a step by step process requiring five main steps. The first step to making the video game is the design or layout of the video game. The next step is to grabbing the materials needed to make the game. The materials needed to make the game are different for each game, and it is based on the game and/or game console. The third step in making a video game is going through the manufacturing process. The steps include creating the story, captioning the games action with art, recording dialogue and sound effects, writing the program, testing the game, burning the game or disc, and packaging the game. These are all important for the next step of the next step in making the game, which is ensuring the quality of the game. • 3. Barbara Ehrenreich s Nickel And Dimed Several things can influence how a person performs: gender, race, and even class. In a sense, class could be considered the easiest thing to perform, and can also change the quickest. Nothing needs to be drastically, physically changed in order to perform a different class than the one a person is a part of. However, performing up or down in class takes a lot of effort. When someone performs up in class, they were persecuted and looked down upon compared to someone who performs down. By using the excerpt Serving in Florida from Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreichand the play, Six Degrees of Separation, by John Guare, we see how performing different classes than the one each person is a part affect themselves and those around them In Barbara Ehrenreich s Nickel and Dimed, Barbara went undercover to perform and learn about a class that was not her own. Although it was for only a month, Barbara struggled to keep up the effort and survive in a lower class than she was accustomed to. Even so, her co workers and the people she met along the way did not realize she was performing down in her class. Maybe this was because the people she surrounded herself with were also in similar class situations where the fight to survive was more difficult, not allowing much space in thoughts for other people s life stories. In Six Degrees of Separation, Paul performed up in class in search of friendship and acceptance. Paul s performances, in terms of race, is cynical, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Anatomy And Physiology Of The Respiratory System Section 1 : Anatomy and Physiology The respiratory system, also known as the ventilatory system, is a series of organs found in the human body. The system s primary function is performing respiration inhaling oxygen from the environment and exhaling carbon dioxide out of the body (K.M Zimmermann, 2016). Oxygen acts as fuel without it, the body would be unable to function. Carbon dioxide, the by product of this process, is breathed out as it is toxic to the human body when it builds up (A.M Helminstine, 2016). The main organs of the respiratory system are the lungs they are the location where the gas exchange between oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place. The lungs therefore expand when you breathe in, and retract when you breathe out. This is done through the diaphragm a sheet of muscle that is positioned under the lungs. As one inhales, their diaphragm contracts and moves itself downward, increasing the space for your lungs to expand to. The ribs also move to enlarge the possible area the lungs can expand to. This pressure causes air to be sucked through the body to the lungs. When one exhales, the opposite takes place the diaphragm moves upwards and returns to normal, allowing the process to happen again. Air can be breathed in through both the nose and the naval cavity, or the mouth, also known as the oral cavity. The air, regardless of the path taken, will always lead to the pharynx, a space located at the back of throat. It will progress through the larynx, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Road to Bankruptcy of Detroit City Essays The inevitable is no less a shock because it is inevitable ~ Jamaica Kincaid Founded in 1701 by nearly 100 French settlers, Pontchartrain du Detroit was not doomed to bankruptcy. Located near epicenters of trade including the Canadian Border and the Detroit River and rich in resources Detroit, from a geographic sense, was a city established on lands destined to prosper. Turning into an industrial powerhouse in the 20th century, the city saw an enormous boom in both population and industrial prosperity with the growth of the iron stove, railroad car, and ship building industries. It wasn t until auto manufacturing renaissance initiated with the founding of Henry Ford Co. in 1910 that Detroit began it s nearly 100 year long descent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first factor in Detroit s collapse was the undeniable success of the auto industry. The expansion of the big three auto producers, Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors led the charge. In addition to dominating the auto industry, the big three were largely responsible for the success of local business throughout Detroit. Direct suppliers towards the auto companies themselves, and the subsequent services provided to the auto workers and their families composed the majority of Detroit business. The rapid expansion of the auto industry resulted in the industry s decentralization with the city limits of Detroit and caused the expansion of the outlying areas surround Detroit. The decentralization of industry had profound effects on the geography and on the population of the city. The movement of jobs out of the city accelerated the process of suburbanization, as autoworkers who could move followed their jobs. This trend is demonstrated by Census data, showing that following the creating of new auto plants outside the city of Detroit resulted in the total population dropping by nearly 300,0000 citizens by 1960. Following this decentralization, the auto industry suffering from international competition and rising oil prices, was unable to sustain the levels of economic output seen in years prior; and as a result, became a less desirable place to live for both workers looking to relocate and current residents. This table illustrates the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Big Joe Turner s Miss Rhythm Speaks Out Under the guidelines for covers Ruth Brown established in her article, Miss Rhythm Speaks Out , the cover version of Shake Rattle and Roll from Billy Haley and the Comets would be considered legitimate. Due to the racial hardships of the time period, you can say that Big Joe Turner didn t receive the credit or attention he deserved for the originality of his version, and Billy Haley is indebted to him for that, but Haley s version is just as valid under her guidelines. Ruth Brown wouldn t view Haley s version as a bare faced duplicate with no artistic merit whatsoever because it isn t exactly note for note Turner s version (Ruth Brown, p. 12). Cover songs were more a measure of the racial differences in the United States. Back then, many covers signified racial segregation. Like Ruth Brown says, many African American artists accepted the fact that white American artists were going to take their original piece and make it their own. Today, this would be a major issue and verge on the issue of copyright infringement. However, back then, perhaps it had a positive impact on both the white and black artists white artists get to have success on the performance they create while African American artists gained the extra exposure their song needed at the time to get popular. While many of us today may not agree with this concept, American society and the industry would have only properly functioned like this. Many times like in the case of Shake Rattle and Roll , the covers aren t close to the original piece. Therefore, both the originals and the covers were equally different versions of the same thing, so both artists deserved credit. However, in the case of songs like A Little Bird Told Me by Paula Watson and the cover by Evelyn Knight, both versions were the same song note for note. And even though this was considered fair game at the time, it was truly unfair of Knight to use Watson s exact material, and the cover song should have not been successful or even released. Where meeting Gatsby for the first time in many years, Daisy experiences what seems to be a closer connection with Gatsby. A love triangle is then created between the three which leads to an extraordinary argument between both Tom and Gatsby fighting over Daisy and later leading to the death of Gatsby himself. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this Daisy see s that Tom will always have his wealth to support her whenever it is needed. To respond to the arguments Gatsby made, Tom first argues that Daisy Doesn t know what she s doing (pg 138). This argument made by Tom is important in his argument since saying that about Daisy is almost a snap back into reality for Daisy. By her hearing what Tom said, Daisy is able to realized that maybe she really does not know what she is doing by having any thoughts about leaving for Gatsby while she is married to Tom. After that being said, Tom goes on to expose Gatsby and his past secret life and how I picked him for a bootlegger the first time I saw him, and I wasn t far wrong (pg 140). This argument made by Tom is his attempt to show how people whose wealth is new money, which is what Gatsby qualifies under due to him earning his money through the new bootlegging business, is not as respected as his own wealth coming from old money, which is what Tom qualifies under since he was borned and raised in a wealthy family and has always had a source of wealth to live off from. By Tom showing Daisy the bad connotation Gatsby s wealth contains, he would want Daisy to realize how she is both better and safer off with Tom who is wealthy with old money and will always be wealthy rather than Gatsby who earned his wealth in a shady way and might not always have a wealthy ... They would wear these names on their sleeves for one week. To wear your heart on your sleeve now means that it is easy for other people to know how you are feeling. в–Є In some countries, a young woman may receive a gift of clothing from a young man. • 13. Indentured White Servants In Colonial America The colonies of 1916 were desperate for labor and manpower, to grow enough food to stay alive since agriculture and craftwork were key to the development of the colonies. The colonists thought about forcing the Indians to work for them, but they were massively outnumbered (Zinn). Initially, indentured white servants were used for labor, but there was not a sufficient quantity of them and the amount of work was increasing. Fearing a servant revolt, the colonies resorted to using African slaves rather than the servants. They relied on the slaves to work on the plantations or mine precious metals. The Virginians needed labor to grow corn and tobacco. The rest of the colonies also needed labor to work on similar plantations. Tobacco plantations required thousands of workers meaning the owner wouldn t be making much profit. In the beginning, indentured white servants were the answer. Enslavement laws stated slaves were purchased once and then owned for their entire life. The definition of family is a group consisting of one to two parents and their children. This definition does not say that the parents have to be one male and one female. There are many families that consist of two female parents or two male and parent and children; you rarely saw this in the 1960s but today you seemed to see this type of family more frequently. This film also proved effective that if same sex marriage was legal then Edith would not have had to face Ted taking her house and her belongings. Once Abby passed away Edith was faced with the fact that Abby did not have a will that said that the house would be passed onto Edith. Ted; her closest living relative was to be given all of Abby s belongings by law. If same sex marriage was deemed legal during that time Edith would rightfully have possession of all of Abby s belongings including the house. This would also allow Edith to have been able to see Abby before she died because she would be deemed a family member. They proved this effective because they showed that in the hospital that even if Edith would have said that she and Abby were together she would still have not been able to see her legally. This happens multiple times while the Israelites are searching for the Promised Land. The most important part of the Bible when the Eucharistis received, is when Jesus and the Apostles are at the Last Supper. Through the Sacrament of Eucharist, Jesus breaks the bread and passes it around to his apostles. Then, Jesus says that one of them will betray him, and whoever dips the bread in the wine at the same time he does will be the one who will betray him. Jesus, himself, was a Jewish man and celebrated this tradition as a part of his faith, so it makes sense that this final meal could hold traditional aspects of a PassoverSeder. The three Synoptic Gospels seem to demonstrate parallels between a typical Passover celebration and The Last Supper that Jesusperformed. The Gospelof Luke even calls in a Passover meal in chapter 22 verse 15. • 34. The Importance Of Maintaining The Correct Acid Base Balance The importance of maintain the correct acid base balance in the body is crucial for a healthy lifestyle. Human bodies are very sensitive to pH levels and must be maintained to prevent any health issues. The term pH means potentials oh hydrogen. To function properly our blood pH is regulated at 7.4. The degree of acidity or alkalinity is referred to as the acidbase balance. The acidity levels increase when the acidic compounds in the bloodincrease of the alkaline compounds in the blood fall. Alkalinity increases when the reverse occurs. The levels of alkaline and acidic compounds depend on the body s intake, production or decreased elimination or vice versa. If the pHrises or falls increasingly the body s proteins and enzymes can denature and stop functioning. This can cause serious diseases such as cancers or even death. Therefore, our body has essential mechanisms in place to regulate the pH of our blood. Regulating acid base balance: The main functions of the body that deal with maintaining acid base balance are the buffer, renal and respiratory systems. Buffer System: Normal metabolism produces hydrogen in the form of acids; to maintain the pH of the blood the acids are buffered or removed from the body. A buffer works in a pair, a weak acid is activated when the pH is at risk from a strong base/ a weak base is activated when the pH is at risk from a strong acid. Stereotypes affect how citizens determine their future. Demonstrated in the excerpt The Hunger of Memory, Richard Rodriguez faces stereotypes when he travels to the United States to achieve a higher education. Likewise, in the essay Superman and Me, Sherman Alexie is assumed to be less intelligent based of his ethnic background. Both of these authors futures are influenced differently based off the prejudice situations they face. Whereas Rodriguez perceives differences as continuing in a stereotypical humanity, Alexie perceives differences as expanding beyond stereotypical standards. Within the excerpt The Hunger of Memory , Richard Rodriguez delivers his inspirational story about how he came from nothing and made his life into something worthwhile. • 37. Oedipus The King Research Paper Tragedies are events that cause great suffering, distress, and destruction, such as a serious accident, crime or natural catastrophe. One example of a tragedy is Oedipus The King, written by Sophocles around 441 B.C. Many events in this tragedy take place and cause the main character, Oedipus, to reach his downfall. Oedipus intelligence, pursuit of truth, and hot temper all contribute to his downfall. Oedipus intelligence is one thing that leads to his downfall. When Oedipus first came to Thebes he had solved the riddle of the sphinx. Because of this, the Priest had come to him and asked him to help them with the plague that has come to Thebes (39 43). The priest comes to Oedipus saying, You freed us from the Shinx, you came to Thebes and cut us loose from the bloody tribute we had paid that harsh, brutal singer (44 46). The village came to Oedipus because they felt that he could help them. He had helped them before and he could help them again. If Oedipus did not defeat the sphinx he would not have become king. Legislature has told the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) that they must cut $350 million from the Medicaid funding over the next two years. In order to abide by the legislature s demands, the HHSC has proposed cutting the reimbursement rates for pediatric physical and occupational therapists on average by 10 to 25 percent. And pediatric speech therapists would face cuts of 16 to 27 percent. Many feel that these cuts to the therapypayments have little to no effect on the services that children with disabilities receive. These individuals say that following the orders will assist in reducing the therapy rates and will reduce the practice of excess therapy. On the opposing side, it has been expressed that cutting therapy funds that the Stateof Texasprovides has the potential to cause individuals within the pediatric population to lose crucial therapy services. The planned cuts have the risk to jeopardize the potential of our nation s young. The cuts also make many agency s that currently provide occupational, physical and speech therapy vulnerable to closures and lay offs. • 39. Chimney Sweeper By William Blake Analysis Sociologist Max Weber recognized that, as technology expands, as does the gap between the lower class and rich. His studies came from watching the Industrial Revolution take place and the social system change from feudalism to capitalism. Similarly, William Blake, who lived in Industrial Revolution era England, witnessed this widening gap firsthand. Commenting on the inhumane labor practices common to the poor in 19th century England, he wrote 2 versions of a poem called The Chimney Sweeper in different collections Songs of Innocence (1789) and Songs of Experience (1794). With these poems, Blake comments on the practice of using small children as chimney sweepers, drawing attention to the inhumanity and immorality of the practice and the way it s overlooked. In the Songs of Innocence version, Blake writes a narrative from the point of view of a child laborer. The tone is full of youthful innocence, which harshly contrasts the somber truth of the speaker s situation. The speaker is a young child, as implied in clever onomatopoeia in line 4, Could scarcely cry weep! weep! weep! weep! In these lines, the speaker means both literally a weep, as well as the word sweep, which, if said by a young child, may sound like weep. With this clever word choice, Blake invites readers to profoundly pity the poor child, as he is so young that he cannot even speak properly, yet sent to his death anyway. The child s innocence continues to be of presence, shaping the poem. In later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Using the rating system previously described, we asked consumers to rate their laptops if they are a great value for the price. Dell s overall average was a 5.2 while Apple s overall average was a 4.3. One thing that stood out to us was that Apple owners rated Apple laptops a 5.4 when the rest of the consumers rated them a 3.8. This leads us to believe that owning an Apple laptop may make you believe that it is a great value for its price. On the next question, we asked consumers to rate their laptops on a uniqueness and design. Here, Apple blew away Dell with an overall rating of 6.3 compared to Dell s 3.9. Perhaps this could be a reason why Apple laptops appeal to consumers that seek a cool looking laptop. When asked if their laptops provide them with everything they need, both Dell and Apple scored well with a 5.2 and 5.5 overall rating respectively. Since the ratings here are so similar, we cannot conclude that this factor has any effect on consumer s switching between brands. Reliability was another characteristic that we asked about in our survey. In this, Apple received a much higher overall rating than Dell, receiving a rating of 6.0 vs Dell s 4.8. Indeed, because the singular purpose of media is to convey an idea or a message to the masses, media must have an audience; which is to say a group who consumes it.
