Why The Outcasts Judge People
Difference isn t always a bad thing, it s just unordinary. That s why it s an instinct to immediately
judge people, whether it be good or bad, when they appear different. Good judgements aren t that easy
to achieve, though, so people tend to go in the direction as other normal people so they don t attract
attention.A direct example of this is when Hazel tries to convince George to take out some balls from
his bags. He refuses, only because he is aware that there is consequences to taking them out. There
would be a fine of two thousand dollars. Along with that, he would also spend two years in jail for
every ball taken out. The balls in this example, represent the thoughts or actions a person wants to do.
They re held captive in the bag that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some might argue that the restrictions the government put on society is great. Uniqueness should not
exist in their Utopia . If everyone is forced to be the same, and that different levels of capability
should not be allowed. Therefore, no one s self esteem would be lowered knowing that other people
have advantages in their physical appearance, their intelligence, physical ability, etc. No one would be
jealous that they don t have what others do, like when George mentions the ballerinas. He says And
their faces were masked, so that no one, seeing a free and graceful gesture or a pretty face, would feel
like something the cat drug in. At the beginning of the story, it states that everyone has the same
intelligence, and later shows that George, who is above average in intelligence, isn t allowed to use it.
It may seem that this would be perfect. Everyone has the same intelligence, so no one feels bad that
they are not as smart as others. It seems that this society is based on the literal idea that everyone
should be equal.. Although it is, it s not as perfect as other people would assume. Equality doesn t
mean that everyone will succeed. Giving equality to everyone means that everyone would be given the
same materials, whether it is beneficial or not. On the other hand, equity, would be more perfect.
Equity is when everyone is given the required materials based on their needs. It s not equality, and
may appear

Introduction
What is Recidivism Recidivism is a term, applied in the Criminal Justice System for criminals who
despite having been punished for a crime go on to repeat it, only to be returned to a custodial sentence.
It is for this particular reason that the penal system need to decide whether the system is effective in
doing its job, or reforms are needed to improve the way it conducts itself.
What causes Recidivism?
Recidivism is caused by criminals who have been through the courts and prison system and still refuse
to turn away from crime; the causes of repeat crime may involve many social factors, such as society,
the economic climate, or family issues that may affect the criminal in a negative manner. Perhaps the

The Ministry of Justice Bulletin states that the overall increase in the prison population of 66% was
due to the segments mentioned in the beginning of my report.
According Juliet Lyon, Director of Prison Reform, the answer to the rise in prison population lies in
the way crime is viewed by the media and whatever political party is in power at the time She also
states that high profile and disturbing cases tend to distort the perception of the public at large and
making them intolerant to crime in any form. Juliet debates that

Lewis Screwtape Letters, An Amusing And Profound Story...
Lewis Screwtape Letters is an amusing and profound story of the world s temptation and a Christian s
victory over it. In a collection of letters, an old demon, Screwtape, gives advice and guidance to his
young and naive nephew, Wormwood, on how to lure his patient to Hell. Amateurishly attempting to
tempt his patient to commit some great, extravagant sin, Wormwood lets his hand off the wheel and
his patient becomes a Christian. Even in a seemingly hopeless situation, Screwtape kept his cool and
advised Wormwood to prevent his doing anything. As long as he does not convert it into action...Let
him do anything but act. No amount of piety in his imagination and affections will harm us if we can
keep it out of his will. As one of the humans has said, active habits are strengthened by repetition but
passive ones are weakened. (pg.66 67) Screwtape and Wormwood work to work to keep the patients
faith in a passive, lukewarm state and put out his fire for the Lord. They try to distract him with the
ways of the world, but they are unable to put out his burning fire for the Lord. In an unexpected
bombing, the patient slipped through Wormwood s hands and into the open arms of his Heavenly
Father. Some ways Wormwood is instructed to tempt his patient is by keeping him either stuck in the
past or hag ridden with the future, creating doubt during the low or struggling times and distracted
during the good times, and with love.

Deucalion Compare And Contrast
Favour Owolabi Mrs. Henderson Honors World Lit. February 3, 2015 Mankind s Death and Rebirth
Being an honorable person is an important attribute to many people. Noah and Deucalion were two
highly honorable men. These men and their families were the only two men out of thousands to
survive a fate that changed mankind forever. Noah was a man from Babylon who feared God and
found favor in His sight. Deucalion was a man from Greece who pleased the gods and was able to stay
pure in his heart. Both men had many similar attributes and purposes for life, but each had differences
that made their stories unique. A commonality in both stories is that mankind harbored evil in their
hearts and had no regard for God/Zeus provoking their wraths. According to the Grecian flood story,
men became unbearably wicked and no longer lived at peace with each other. They were always at
war with each other having no law or safety in the land. In the Bible, God saw how evil men were and
how there was nothing but immorality in mans heart. The depravity and iniquity of man are what led
to God and Zeus s wrath. Men became lawless, it was as if every man was for themselves. This
corruption is what made God and Zeus to become weary and to regret ever creating man. But as the
world became wickeder and wickeder every day he began to grow weary of ... Show more content on

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Pope Urban II
Pope Urban II delivers a touching an inspiring speech that is meant to highlight the importance of
trusting in God in one attempt to overcome their challenges. The pope delivers the message at a time
when there is turmoil and the country had been subjected to chaos to misunderstanding by the kings
and rulers at the time. In his speech the religious leader employs a prayer in their attempt to convince
their followers to embark of the dangerous journey and rescue what belongs to them based on the
motivation of bible scriptures.
One motivation that the pope uses in luring Christians into the idea of fighting in the holy land is
based in the fact that God has given them power unlike other nations to defeat their enemies (Jan). In
his speech, Urban II also mentions their uniqueness in the ability to possess courage, and humility
means that their God favors them and they do not need to worry as they plan to tackle and overcome
the enemy in war. In the motivational speech, the pope further reminds the city members that they
need to be aware that God is with them and they should not worry in the battle (Jan). ... Show more

Urban II states that it is written in the holy books that if they forsake their earthly materials and
relatives for the name of their God, they will be blessed abundantly. He asserts that Christians need to
learn to forego all belongings including those that they treasure dearly in their loves especially when
he refers to leaving family members for the glory of God s name. In concluding his remarks, the Pope
states that the word of God not only needs Christies to forego their belongings but they also have to
realize that their bodies are worthless too and they should murder and devour each other for the name
of God

Native American Healing Traditions Could Supplement Modern...
Many traditional Native medicines and healing practices were discouraged with the advent of Western
medicine, but now there is a movement to return to traditional ways (Zubek, 1994, p. 1924). Modern
Western medicine treats the symptoms to cure a diseased state when the body is out of homeostasis.
Native American healing traditions do this as well with herbs and plants suited to the purpose. These
Native healing traditions also include sacred rituals, chants, and purification rites to help bring the
spirit and mind of the afflicted back into balance. In effect, treating the whole person, not only the
disease. A blending of these two healing practices could bring about better prognoses for today s
patients. The purpose of this paper is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The findings of this survey showed that 73.6% agreed with the use of traditional medicines for health
maintenance, 79.2% agreed for benign illness, such as colds or sprained ankles, and 90.3% agreed for
palliative care (Zubek, 1994, p. 1926). Where they disagreed the most was with the use of traditional
healing in the intensive care units, only 16.9% agreed with the use of this treatment for serious illness,
such as cardiac or respiratory compromise, whether in the hospital (21.2% agreed) or as outpatients
(26.4% agreed). Nearly half (48.6%) agreed with using traditional medicines for chronic illnesses,
such as non insulin dependent diabetes or Parkinson s disease (Zubek, 1994, p. 1926). One instance
where physicians were unwilling to allow their patients to use Native medicine was while the patient
is in the hospital, because the physician could be held legally responsible for any treatment
administered while admitted under their care. There is also the problem of differentiating between
legitimate Native healing practitioners and those who would take advantage of anyone not aware of
the proper rituals and techniques that need to be performed (Zubek, 1994, p. 1929). This could be
overcome by having a formalized licensing organization such as is used by Western practitioners (i.e.
American Society of Clinical Pathology [ASCP]). That poses another problem though, as to whether
traditionalists would be willing to have such an organization.

A Picture Of Failure At Show Santiago s Persistence,...
The author starts the book with a picture of failure to show Santiago s persistence, passion, and
courage in the face of defeat.
Symbolism is when something abstract is represented with something concrete. Santiago is described
as, thin and gaunt with deep wrinkles in the back of his neck , brown blotches of benevolent skin
cancer , his hands had deep creased scars from handling heavy fish , and everything about him was old
except for his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and where cheerful and undefeated.
Santiago s hand scars are his battle wounds and shows that his nature is to overcome obstacles in his
path. His wrinkles and cancer spots make him look like a simple old man not concerned with looks
showing us his humility. Also his eyes that look undefeated are symbolic of his hope and
perseverance.
Santiago s home is constructed of tough bud shield from the royal palm. It has basic furniture, a bed, a
chair, and a table. The house has dirt floors and on the floor is a place to cook with charcoal. Santiago,
like his home, is simple, modest, and strong. Even though he lives somewhat on the goodwill of other
people, he manages to survive and endure. Santiago isn t caught up about when he attained humility
but recognizes that he does have this trait and is proud of it without being arrogant. Santiago shows
that humility and pride aren t mutually different and can be one in the same. Hemingway does admire
Santiago through the book. He is constantly

Snyder s usage of the elements of mise en scene creates the theme of inevitability by the camera shots
that were incorporated throughout the movie, the expression that the character had when they were

one of the characters actions affected the outcome of how they were going to survive. An example of
one of the elements of mise en scene was the lighting during the scene when one of the shuttles was

which causes the mood of the setting to become more intensified. The scene starts with the mall

Analysis Of The Wife Of His Youth
The Wife of His Youth is a short story by Charles Chesnutt about a bourgeoisie man named Mr. Ryder
who is in a dilemma when the wife of his past shows up a day before he proposes to his lover, Mrs.
Molly Dixon. Originally Sam Taylor, an apprentice on a plantation, Mr. Ryder runs away and settles in
a light colored community Groveland where he becomes a bourgeoisie. In Groveland, Ryder joins a
colored organization Blue Veins where he further advances himself in society and becomes the dean of
the organization. The Blue Veins Society is created to establish and maintain correct social standards
among a people whose social condition presented almost unlimited room for improvement (Chesnutt
624). As Ryder prepares for the ball and his proposal to Molly, Liza Jane appears in his life and causes
him to thwart his proposal. Instead of proposing to Molly, he presents to his guests, Liza Jane, the wife
of his youth. Chesnutt s The Wife of His Youth addresses race and Chesnutt s view on race, societal
standards, language, and the significance of Liza Jane s appearance with racial identity and the color
line.
Race is an important element in The Wife of His Youth and can be prominently seen in Ryder s
encounter with Liza Jane. Ryder is a mulatto man, but has long forgotten his past and has embraced
the middle class societal life until Liza Jane presents him the case of her missing husband. When
Ryder meets her, she is described as, And she was very black, so black that

Female Infanticide and Foeticide Essay
Female Infanticide and Foeticide
It is regrettable that female infanticide and foeticide are rapidly decreasing the female population
throughout India. The main factors that is responsible for the increase in the incidence of female
infanticide and foeticide is the low status of women, son preference, and the practice of dowry across
all casts groups.
The low status of women and girls is due to cultural beliefs and the material cost they represent to
their families. Vanaja Dhruvarajan says that there is a belief regarding the nature of men and women:
Men are ritually pure, physically strong, and emotionally mature; women, on the other hand, are
ritually pollutable, physically weak, and lack strong willpower (30). Because of these ... Show more

Overall, girls get poorer education than boys, and become less aware of the world around them.
Therefore, they become dependent on men, whether it is the father, the husband or the son.
The preference for male children is due to three major reasons. One is the economic value of having
sons. Sons are more likely than daughters to provide family labour on the farm or in a family business,
earn wages, and support their parents during old age. Upon marriage, a son brings a daughter in law
into his family, and she provides additional help around the house as well as she brings riches in the
form of dowry payments. Another important advantage of having sons is their social cultural utility. In
India patriarchal family system, having one son is essential for the continuation of the family line, and
many sons provide high status to the family. Vanaja Dhruvarajan says, When a women becomes a
mother, especially the mother of a son, her status goes up in her new home for having helped
perpetuate the family (87) Finally, the utility of having sons comes from the important religious
functions that only sons can provide. In Hindu tradition, sons are needed to do the funeral of their
deceased parents and to help in the salvation of their souls.
Daughters are considered to be an economic problem to her parents mainly because of the heavy
dowry payment demanded by the groom s family, as well as the high cost of the wedding,

Who Is Faber In Fahrenheit 451
Ray Bradbury wrote Fahrenheit 451 in 1953 on a typewriter in his basement. Fahrenheit 451 is based
in a futuristic United States where books are banned and constantly burned by firefighters. Faber is the
Mentor that helps, the hero, Guy Montag to bring books back into society. Faber still helps Montag
even though doing so is illegal, which makes Faber the Mentor in Fahrenheit 451. Faber is doing good
by helping Montag because Montag agrees with Faber. Faber eventually helps Montag run from the

direction of the people that are preserving the information inside books, to help Montag run away.
Bradbury illustrates how Faber is the Mentor in Fahrenheit 451 by having Faber help Montag in

The Golden Age By Aphra Behn
In her poem The Golden Age , Aphra Behn divides nature from civilization, almost in a biblical sense
of Eden and after Eden. Nature and civilization are separated as a positive and negative experience
where love is dishonoured, and sin takes over Earth. Through this before and after division, Behn
shows how the fall of mankind led to the oppression of the female sex as woman, associated with
love, kept the world pure until man, associated with honour, took over. Thus creating Pleasure, Nature
s worst Disease (148). When Nature is overpowered by civilization, gender issues arose. This division
of gender issues sets women up to be a tease or object of pleasure rather than an equal lover who is
free to her own sexuality. The Golden Age presents the fall of natural order with the rise of man.
The beginning of the poem is a very peaceful, Blest Age! (1), with Purling Stream[s] (1), an Eternal
Spring (5), and wanton Gods of Love (15). This takes place in the world before the rise of mankind,
much like the biblical Garden of Eden. In this flowery place, nature triumphs with love. Nature is
referred to as a feminine idea, Virgin Earth;/ Who yielded of her own accord her plenteous Birth (32
33). This can relate to the idea or allusion of Mother Nature, as Earth is commonly referred to as
female. Behn tells the reader how roses, as a symbol for virtuousness, live in prosperous morning dew.
In this peaceful and young world, two lovers are free to all their Joyes and

The Chaos and Division of Asia s History Essay
The assigned readings about Asian history lead a unified conclusion that the past (history) of Asia was
characterized with chaos and internal divisions. China, once again entered an era of divisiveness and
chaos. Competing warlords dominated China for the next 350 years (The Golden Age of China: 79).
China is a perfect symbol of Asia s history because if studied from the past, the history of China
demonstrates how divisions took place in the country s political and economic spheres. China s history
reveals how the religion led to emergence of chaos in the country. This shows that religion, in the
history of Asia, was more divisive than uniting when individual countries considered their religions as
different. Religious harmonization of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially, Chinese had coexisted well under one rule. However, three powerful dynasties emerged after
the Han dynasty, forming three kingdoms of Wei, Shu, and Wu. An element of democracy started
getting into China s politics, though at the time of the three dynasties, the kings had amassed power
through their naval strength. The fact that power was divided from one kingdom to three, however,
shows decentralization of influence, which is an element of democracy. The formation of the three
dynasties in China did not offer any practical solution to the chaotic situation in the country. This
disapproves the imagination that democracy was growing in the country. If it was indeed democracy,
then its growth had not ended. This is because after the formation of the three dynasties, political
division in China widened even further. No powerful dynasty in the continent s history appeared to be
answering the question of China s unity. It appeared like political plurality had entered in China to
stay. For example, the failure of the Jin Dynasty to solve the puzzle of China s political unity shows
how divisive China was becoming. Polarization of leadership was more serious in Northern China.
This judgment arises from the fact that the Jin dynasty did not solve the puzzle of multiple kingdoms
in the north of China. Sixteen kingdoms emerged in the north as the Jin dynasty attempted to unite
China.

Trojan War Tactics
Analyse the effectiveness of the tactics used by both sides in the Trojan War.
____________________________________________________________
___
The Trojan war was a ten year siege on the city of the city of Troy at the hands of the Greek forces led
by a psychopathic king, Agamemnon. This conflict, which took place about 1200 B.C has become one
of the most well known Greek mythology events in history. In the 13th century B.C, Troy and Sparta
had stopped their wars and become allies, this was until Paris the youngest prince of Troy seduced
Helen, the Queen of Sparta and left with her back to Troy. When Menelaos (The King of Sparta) found
out what had happened, he vowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The leaders would then come forward on their chariots and challenge each other to single combat.
This was a common method of warfare. It allows for true heroes to be shown and depicts the power of
the leaders.
The soldiers would enter the battle in chariots, launching javelins into the enemy formations, then
dismount for hand to hand combat with more javelin throwing, rock throwing, and hand to hand sword
and shield fighting. In the Iliad Homer also mentions the use of the phalanx formation being used by
the Greeks. The phalanx is a rectangular mass military formation, usually composed entirely of heavy
infantry armed with spears, pikes, or similar weapons . Scholars suggest that the Greeks would have
used this tactic because the alignment of shields minimises the chances of projectiles hitting the men,
and the men can move as one, strong unit.
In book 4 of Homer s Iliad, a major battle in the war is described in detail. After the armies have
gathered together all there available forces, they began to march towards each other. The Achaean
forces moved forward towards the Trojans covering the horizon with the sight of eminent war. As the
Greeks moved forward they unknowingly ventured into the range of the Trojan archers, who were
some of the finest in the known world. As the Greeks were held back by the range of the Trojan
archers, they were quickly losing men and morale so Agamemnon made the decision to withdraw

of the address, I made contact with a woman claiming to have reported the incident. She stated her
name as Mary Sue Jones. I observed that Mrs. Jones had wounds on her face as well as cuts along
both of her arms. Mrs. Jones was visibly shaken, she explained that her husband, Paul Jones, had
thrown her to the ground and punched her in the face. Mrs. Jones also warned that Mr. Jones was

The Squad Of The 14u Team South Football Team
We had traveled in the minivan for 5 hours, for a group of 13 year old boys this trip felt like eternity.
However, our excitement kept us all jaunting to each other about silly middle school shenanigans, who
can dougie better, and how we were all going to murk this tryout. Johnny Evans, Malik Chatman,
Gavin Rose, Ronnie Fountain, and I were all selected to try out for the 14u Team South football team.
This team would represent all the best players in the southeast and clash them against other regions
best athletes. This would be a 3 day try out. After leaving Orlando, the van had finally reached its
destination. Coach Rose jingled to the car Atlanta is the place to be, with orange peaches and southern
tea, we all stared at Gavin as his face turned as red as a Crayola. We pulled into the lot of the hotel all
participating athletes had been assigned right off of I 75. We all unloaded the van of our luggage
proceeded to the check in, Coach got the keys for room 325 and 326. I was so tired of riding in back
of the van that I did not really care how the room would look as long as I could put my bags down and
fall right into the bed. Malik, Johnny and I entered our room 326 to the right was with a bathroom
sink, a mirror, and shower. On the left, a mini kitchen with a stove, island table, and refrigerator. In
front of us, there were two wooden dressers pinned together with a television on top. Near the
window, there was a small table with a lamp as well as chair in the corner.

Essay On Harry Houdini
Currently, some people are curious about how Harry Houdini passed away. Was his death natural, or
did someone want him dead? One possibility of Harry Houdini s death is that he simply got punched
in the stomach. Eric Jill from Snopes writes,
Houdini was fond of explaining to his fans that by tightening his abdominal muscles he could
withstand the hardest punches to the midsection a man could deliver, and one day a college student
[punched Harry.] The stomach punches caught Houdini by surprise before he had time to prepare
himself, however, resulting in a trauma that ruptured his appendix and ultimately caused his death a
few weeks later (Jill 1).
According to Snopes, the article states that Houdini was a accident prone person and often refused
medical assistance. Before being punched, Harry had a broken ankle and did not get hospitalized.
After getting punched, he soon had a fever and severe stomach pains. Soon, it was apparent Harry was
not well and he later got rushed to the hospital. The surgeons found Harry had a ruptured appendix
and suffering from periodontitis (A disease caused by a ruptured appendix). Sadly, by the time they
removed the appendix it was too late and Harry passed away at October 31, 1926, the day of
Halloween. Is his death date coincidental?
However this popular claim seems to be a stretch. Jill states, Reported cases ... of appendicitis
following blunt abdominal trauma are quite rare, ...
It s possible that the onset of Houdini s appendicitis was

Mental Health Issues For Asylum Seekers
The issue of asylum seekers recently was reignited, with the dramatic increase in the number of illegal
boats arriving in Australia. From the 30th of September 2013, there were a reported 6,403 people in
closed detention, this number including 1,078 children. It is not surprising from these high detention
rates and poor living standards that between January 2011 and February 2013 that there were 4,313
reported incidents of actual, threatened or attempted serious self harm in these immigration detention
facilities. From 12 deaths that occurred between the 1st of July 2010 and the 20th of June 2013 6 of
these have been found by coroners to be suicides (Triggs, 2013). These statistics are incredibly
alarming, especially when not much action is being taken to prevent not only mental illness but also
the consequences of prolonged mental illness suicide. The purpose of this report is to analyse and
scrutinize the reason why mental health issues for asylum seekers are becoming an issue in Australia,
and find out what exactly is being done to combat this ever growing issue in Australia.
An asylum seeker is a person who has fled their own country and applied for protection as a refugee.
As an asylum seeker their experience is extremely different to that of a Migrant. A Migrant chooses to
leave their home country, and can choose where to go and when they might return to their home
country, whereas, an asylum seeker or refugee are forced to flee their country for their own safety,

Examples Of Fear In The Crucible
Sometimes people are very afraid of telling the truth, their fear makes them live in discouragement.
Sometimes, their fear also affects others around them because they lack self confidence .When this
happens, important relationships suffer. The play The Crucible by Arthur Miller has a dramatic
storyline the characters struggle with the Puritan authority and the town people having to make a
decision on who is telling the truth and who is hiring. The girls make false accusations because of
their fear of the Puritan authorities because they torched Tituba and they can do that to them, also by
doing this it may make their lives miserable.
The girls are scared of being torched because they know that the authority can hurt anyone and they
can do what they want and no one will stop them. An example that shows this from the text is Putnam:
This woman must be hanged! She must he taken and hanged! Tituba, terrified, falls to her knees: No,
no don t hang Tituba! I tell him I don t desire to work for him, sir (Crucible.1.1119). This is showing
how the girls are afraid of them because they have already beat Tituba and she didn t do anything. To
add to that it shows the girls if they act a certain way and the authority does not like it the they can
punish them by beating them or even worse by hanging them. Another quote that shows this is Parris:
then see no spirits now, and prove to us that you can faint by your own will, as you claim. Mary

Name: Renee Deverall Student Number: 215067741 1. Write a short paragraph that defines VO2max,
explains what it measures and describes some of the most important ways that it can be used in health
and sport. VO2max can be defined as the maximum oxygen uptake. This entails the maximum rate at
which oxygen is readily available in the body to be taken up and used during aerobic exercise.
(Fletcher et al.) It is a very important and commonly used indicator of a person or athletes level of
cardiovascular fitness. A high VO2max demonstrates a high level of aerobic fitness, where as a low
VO2max indicates a low rate of aerobic fitness. There are two factors that are important in
determining a persons VO2max, which are the hearts ability to deliver oxygen to the muscles and the
muscles ability to extract the oxygen from the blood and use it (Brown, Miller and Eason). This means
that when a person has a high VO2max their body is able to deliver oxygen through the blood
efficiently to the muscles in order to maintain high levels of aerobic exercise over an extended period
of time. VO2max is a valued measurement of cardiovascular fitness in the Sport industry due to its
ability to indicate cardiovascular fitness, as well as the pulmonary and muscular systems efficiency
throughout the duration of the exercise (Brown, Miller and Eason). There are multiple tests that can
measure VO2max

Gospel Of Matthew Essay
New material begins at the start of Matthew with the birth and lineage of Jesus of Nazareth through
the first 2 chapters. The Sermon on the Mount was then introduced in chapters 5 7. Jesus refers to
himself the Human One often (i.e. chapter 9 verse 6) and even the Anointed One (chapter 23 verse
10), which seems to contradict the Messianic Secret not only in this text, but also Mark. The scene of
him walking on water added the part where Peter joined him in chapter 14 verses 28 29. There are
many new parables and lessons too (i.e. forgiveness chapter 18 verses 21 25 and son of the king s
wedding chapter 22 verses 1 15). Jesus also attacks the Pharisees more as seen in chapter 23 verses 13

Matthew, it is further explained that Jesus rose from the dead and spoke in chapter 28. ... Show more

The Humanity Of Frankenstein In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
For as long as man has encompassed this world, the divisive enigma of humanity has prevailed.
Seeping its way into each generation, while sparking heated conversations, it has become evident that
there is much we do not know about what truly makes us human. Regardless of our genetic
composition, philosophers often ponder the deeper meaning of humanity. We know that, biologically,
recreating the genetic makeup of a human does not yield humanity, so what is the missing aspect?
Humans have the ability to contemplate their own existence in this world. Awareness of existence.
This driving force enables us to analyze situations while placing ourselves within them. Our
involuntary ability to understand the impact of our actions and the affect they have on others causes us
to be inherently human. Our actions evoke strong emotions within us that allow us to learn through
our experiences. We retain the resonated feelings of certain occurrences and apply them to others in
order to deduce outcomes. Often this facet of mankind is taken for granted, yet we are reminded,
through both literature and hypothetical scenarios, of its importance. Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley,
constitutes as one of these profound reminders. Shelley develops a theoretical story in which the
humanity of Frankenstein s monster is questioned. Despite having the accurate organs and framework
of a human, Shelley causes the reader to seek the missing aspect that is preventing the monster from
being human. Likewise,

The opening sequence in the film Falling Down portrays how everyday activities can take a turn for
the worst. It begins with the main character William Foster stuck in a traffic jam on the highway
caused by construction. The first shot that opens the scene is an extreme close up of Foster s face,
which allows the audience to see him in great detail. We see by his heavy breathing and sweat
dripping down his face that he is in a hot environment. The camera starts to zoom out and go into a

temperature outside is hot. Another factor adding to his frustration is the fly stuck in his car. It is
buzzing around him and repeatedly landing on his neck causing him to keep swatting at it. The usage
of quick cuts gives the impression of tension building up for the character throughout the scene. This
gives off the impression that something worse is constantly happening to Foster and he is unable to
escape his uncomfortable reality. The AC breaking, window roller broken, kids screaming, cars
honking and the heat wave itself are all shown so quickly so that the viewer is seeing that everything
is being thrown at Foster at once and that he is starting to feel very claustrophobic and cannot seem to
escape it. When everything hits its peak he decides to quickly get out of his vehicle, which serves as
his escape as the music and sounds subside to a normal level and he is now calmer and decides to just

Peace in the Middle East Essays
The text begins its history with the Middle East around the time of Muhammad and the creation of
Islam. From that time forth uprisings, demonstrations and acts of violence were commonplace and
have continued to be since that time. To dig a little deeper and go back a little further in Middle East
history one will find that this pattern of unrest stems from as far back as proof provides. To see a
timeline of significant wars or battles of the Middle East, the picture is better illustrated on just how
long this territory of earth has been in domestic or national conflict.

Frequent discussions about the possibility of peace in the Middle East often route into the subject of
Islam and the inability or lack of desire of the Middle East countries to separate state from religion. It
is common to hear arguments blame Islamic extremists for the unsettled atmosphere of the Middle
East. Where in some instances this may be accurate, it is highly inaccurate in most cases; but I would
like to emphasize the word some. Going back to the timeline of the Middle East disputes, we can see
that majority of these battles were not established out of religious means. Most were catapulted from
land, tax, and regime issues. Take the Wars of the Hellenistic Monarchies in Syria in 318 170 B.C. for
example. This is a demonstration of generations of war between the Seleucids and Ptolemy s in an
effort to gain control of Syria. Does this differ in comparison to the decades long Palestinian/Israeli
war? Not much. The only difference is that peace is on the world s radar as something to strive for and
ultimately achieve. As the Middle East continues to repeat history for very similar principles, the rest
of the world is left wondering when it will all end; when in fact, the rest of the world s countries and
continents have all had a very similar history of conflict as well.
Although the Middle East represents one of the oldest territories in the world, comparison of timeline
battles to other countries is a bit

sign of cooperation between nations that had been in constant rivalry before. Nevertheless, the ideals
of such a union cannot stand alone without having a strong foundation and continuos rational decision
making by all of the actors involved. If we assume that the European Central Bank s (ECB) principle
role is to guarantee the well being of all EU members, then policy making becomes a very complex

trafficking, selling means to kill people, ruin their lives, or just plainly sell people. Unfortunately
actions such as these are commonplace nowadays among gangs as they become more and more
ruthless. We need to rid ourselves of gangs, that much is clear. However, nowadays we re not in a
position to do so. Everyone in the country needs to understand the dangers of gangs and how they can
grow anywhere despite law enforcement. Because it s not the police that can do away with gangs for
good, it s the citizen s responsibility to ensure these gangs never grow and prosper. A problem facing
the common citizen regarding this problem is their perception of gangs, how they view gangs and how
they think gangs operate. To the average person when they think of a gang, they think of some
teenagers smoking on a street corner brandishing knives. And while that s partially true, it s very far
from the whole truth. When it comes to organized crime, there is no one type of gang, there different
types of gangs varying in their size, influence, and how dangerous they are. At the bottom of the food
chain is the street gangs consisting of a few dozen members at most and, like the name implies, they

How Did James Madison Contribute To The Constitution
James Madison is often considered the Father of the Constitution because many of his ideas
influenced the Constitution of the United States. Though the entirety of the Constitution was a result
of months of deliberation among the delegates, James Madison created important contributions. Many
of Madison s contributions intended for the constitution to protect the citizens of the U.S. from
tyranny of the government. James Madison believed there was many forms of tyranny and wanted to
protect the citizens against all types. Madison believed the most popular and well known form of
tyranny was tyranny of the government. In The Federalist Papers: No. 10, James Madison expresses
himself by stating There are again two methods of removing the causes of faction: the one, by
destroying the liberty which is essential to its existence... By this, James is explaining that in order to
end minor organizations and groups, their rights and liberties must be taken away from them, therefore
creating a government controlled by a tyrant. To prevent this, Madison announced In a single republic,
all the power surrendered by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may result in the favored group oppressing the lesser class by use of possessions and status. But
the most common and durable source of factions has been the various and unequal distribution of
property. (The Federalist Paper: No 10) Those favored by the government may consolidate to oppress
those lesser than them. In a society under the forms of which the stronger faction can readily unite and
oppress the weaker, anarchy may as truly be said to reign in as a state of nature, where the weaker
individual is not secured against the violence of the stronger... (The Federalist Papers No. 51). James
Madison wished for the government not to favor any one group or status, but to take into
consideration the thoughts and opinions of the minority as well as the

Ray Bradbury s Essay A Sound Of Thunder
How can the simplest forms of binary coding drive humanity to absolute insanity? The notion that
technology can now make your lives worthless should be a clear and present threat that should push
humanity to fix the problem at hand, but we as humans are the most indecisive, naive, and ludicrous
beings that this earth has to offer. If we could fix the problem, why are we so quick to filter out and
seek methods to destroys us? Ray Bradbury exclaims that technology can destroy humanity; he shows
us examples of corruption affecting both man and machine, traveling in time destroying a set path, and
people betraying one another for the glory of simplicity to emphasize how hazardous technology
could really be.
A wholesome idea that both sides of the defining spectrum between man and machine could
eventually corrupt each other is a plausible idea that has been a reasonable speculation since the
beginning of the intent of an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most often in recent days, decisions of anyone are more criticized for their potential outcome than any
other criteria regarding selections for change. This sudden move frightens the very fabric of reality
with small and valueless notions suddenly having the biggest potential for changing all aspects of
anyone s state of current being. This idea of humans going beyond their bounds and control is greatly
noted with Ray Bradbury s short, A Sound Of Thunder , to which he states , Step on a mouse and you
crush the Pyramids. Step on a mouse and you leave your print, like a Grand Canyon, across Eternity
concluding the idea that stepping on a spec because of your decision can destroy or offset the very
existence of any force perpetuated by atomic structure. Stepping on one thing can lead people to
change their moods most rapidly, and judging on what you stepped on can lead them to make their
own decisions that could either hurt or betray your ideology in a

Examples Of Informal Deviance
The extra credit assignment I chose to talk about was the Informal and Formal deviance talked about
in Dalton Conley s book You may ask yourself . According to Conley, there are two forms of
deviance, formal and informal. The informal aspect is one where there is no law being broken but
more along the lines of breaking a social norm. The second form of deviance is formal and this is
where a law is broken and you will be punished accordingly (Conley, D. 2017. P. 191). In my image
above the white man is drinking out of the colored water fountain which back in the 1940 s was illegal
and this is a formal deviance, or crime, which is the violation of laws enacted by society. (Conley, D.
2017. P. 191) In 1896 Plessy vs Ferguson, the courts ruled

Cinematic Techniques In The Dressmaker
The Dressmaker has many similar elements and features to spaghetti westerns. How has the director
used this style to engage a modern audience? By Tallulah Stacey Bateman The Dressmaker is a movie
based on the book written by Rosalie Ham. It tells the story of a woman named Tilly determined to
figure out the mysteries of her past. The classic spaghetti westerns have many things in common with
The Dressmaker . Some similar cinematic techniques include camera angles and shots, setting,
costuming and themes. These techniques were captured by the director to engage the modern
audience. Camera angles and shots are essential technique for the director to draw meaning to the
character s stories. A key camera angle is a high angle. In classic westerns the antagonists are
presented in high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some themes that are included are justice and love. In Lone Ranger (Directed by Stuart Heisler), it is
seen that a hero dubbed the Lone Ranger, a western version of Robin Hood, is depicted as a saviour of
the innocent. When he is enlisted to unknowingly help the bad guys Lone Ranger decides to help the
Indian Tribal people recover their lands. In The Dressmaker , Tilly seeks a personal injustice that
happened to herself when she was blamed for the murder of her half brother, Stewart, when in truth he
killed himself by mistake. Here we can see that both themes of injustice are battled by each of the
protagonist s own moral code and abilities. Having a faulted yet lovable protagonist can make the
modern audience want to support them in their adventures and trials, and also able to relate to the
character s situations. Love is another key theme in spaghetti westerns with the classic idea of damsels
in distress . Having this stereotype makes the audience believe that the hero and their damsel are
meant to be. When Teddy dies, it gives Tilly the courage to be fearless towards the curses she
proclaims to

Mobile Payment Technologies By Robert Warner
Mobile Payment Technologies Robert Warner ISM3011 Florida Atlantic University April 9, 2016 The
advent of the internet connected smartphone has opened up a whole new world for the consuming
public as they now have access to the world of ecommerce in the palms of their hands. As more
personal data became transferred to these mini computers, the competing interests of more intrusive
applications continue to clash with the need for greater security and data integrity. One of these areas
of conflict has been in the field of mobile payments where there has been the desire to use the personal
financial information stored on a smartphone to conduct business transactions in a convenient yet
secure manner. Recently, technological advancements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
NFC devices can simultaneously support the following three modes of operation. Reader/writer mode
which allows the NFC device to read and/or write passive NFC tags and stickers P2P mode which
allows the NFC device to send and receive data to and from other NFC peers which has been used for
several years as the Android Beam file transfer feature Card emulation mode allows the NFC device to
act as an NFC card. This can now be accessed by an external NFC reader such as an NFC enabled
point of sale terminal. Magnetic secure transmission employs the technology of electromagnetism to
transmit payment card data to payment terminals that are equipped with traditional magnetic stripe
readers. This essentially turns every traditional point of sale terminal that s used for swipe card
transactions into a potential contactless payment system without the need to modify or upgrade the
hardware. The MST technology was developed by LoopPay, a small development company that was
acquired by Samsung in February 2015 and is the driver behind Samsung Pay. Electricity is passed
through a small metal coil inside the smartphone which generates a magnetic field that can now
communicate with standard magnetic payment card readers. The phone can now emulate the physical
process of swiping a card through the point of sale terminal allowing for the same familiar transaction
process without the need to produce and swipe the actual card. The

Museum Of Disability Essay
The Museum of Disability was very informative on displaying the progressive history of individuals
with disabilities. Prior to visiting the museum, I only knew that people with certain disabilities
perform in the circus, but did not know how badly they were being treated. People often forget that
those with disabilities are still human and have rights like any other human being. The ways people
perceive individual with disabilities have majorly progressed since the Middle Ages until now. In the
Middle Ages, those with disabilities were called idiots, which meant they were ignorant or not well
informed. Growing up with disabilities was hard during this time. Many became street beggars, while
a few served as jesters for the royal courts. In rural areas, family used their disabled family members
to help around the house. During the Renaissance era, becoming knowledgeable about arts and
sciences was beginning to become popular. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time, advanced care for people with disabilities and mental illness started to flourish.
Philippe Pinel and Jean Etienne Domique Esquirol were psychiatrists who used modern psychological
approaches to care. Pinel was the director of the Paris asylums in 1794(Museum of Disability). He
refused to torture the mentally ill patients, which was considered the usual method. Instead, he
befriended his patients and engaged them in activities. Esquirol took Pinel s place at Salpetriere and
continued the humane treatment. He became the first person to differentiate between mental
deficiency and insanity. He felt that the chance of improvement was with the insane, not the mentally
deficient. In 1848, in the United States, Dr. Samuel Howe founded the Massachusetts School for
Idiotic Feeble Minded Youth . Howe prepared the children to return to their families by teaching them
how to be productive despite their

  • 2. Why The Outcasts Judge People Difference isn t always a bad thing, it s just unordinary. That s why it s an instinct to immediately judge people, whether it be good or bad, when they appear different. Good judgements aren t that easy to achieve, though, so people tend to go in the direction as other normal people so they don t attract attention.A direct example of this is when Hazel tries to convince George to take out some balls from his bags. He refuses, only because he is aware that there is consequences to taking them out. There would be a fine of two thousand dollars. Along with that, he would also spend two years in jail for every ball taken out. The balls in this example, represent the thoughts or actions a person wants to do. Uniqueness should not exist in their Utopia . If everyone is forced to be the same, and that different levels of capability should not be allowed. Therefore, no one s self esteem would be lowered knowing that other people have advantages in their physical appearance, their intelligence, physical ability, etc. No one would be jealous that they don t have what others do, like when George mentions the ballerinas. He says And their faces were masked, so that no one, seeing a free and graceful gesture or a pretty face, would feel like something the cat drug in. At the beginning of the story, it states that everyone has the same intelligence, and later shows that George, who is above average in intelligence, isn t allowed to use it. It may seem that this would be perfect. Everyone has the same intelligence, so no one feels bad that they are not as smart as others. It seems that this society is based on the literal idea that everyone should be equal.. Although it is, it s not as perfect as other people would assume. Equality doesn t mean that everyone will succeed. Giving equality to everyone means that everyone would be given the same materials, whether it is beneficial or not. On the other hand, equity, would be more perfect. Equity is when everyone is given the required materials based on their needs. It s not equality, and may appear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Lewis Screwtape Letters, An Amusing And Profound Story... Lewis Screwtape Letters is an amusing and profound story of the world s temptation and a Christian s victory over it. In a collection of letters, an old demon, Screwtape, gives advice and guidance to his young and naive nephew, Wormwood, on how to lure his patient to Hell. Amateurishly attempting to tempt his patient to commit some great, extravagant sin, Wormwood lets his hand off the wheel and his patient becomes a Christian. Even in a seemingly hopeless situation, Screwtape kept his cool and advised Wormwood to prevent his doing anything. As long as he does not convert it into action...Let him do anything but act. No amount of piety in his imagination and affections will harm us if we can keep it out of his will. As one of the humans has said, active habits are strengthened by repetition but passive ones are weakened. (pg.66 67) Screwtape and Wormwood work to work to keep the patients faith in a passive, lukewarm state and put out his fire for the Lord. They try to distract him with the ways of the world, but they are unable to put out his burning fire for the Lord. In an unexpected bombing, the patient slipped through Wormwood s hands and into the open arms of his Heavenly Father. Some ways Wormwood is instructed to tempt his patient is by keeping him either stuck in the past or hag ridden with the future, creating doubt during the low or struggling times and distracted during the good times, and with love. • 7. Deucalion Compare And Contrast Favour Owolabi Mrs. Henderson Honors World Lit. February 3, 2015 Mankind s Death and Rebirth Being an honorable person is an important attribute to many people. Noah and Deucalion were two highly honorable men. These men and their families were the only two men out of thousands to survive a fate that changed mankind forever. Noah was a man from Babylon who feared God and found favor in His sight. Deucalion was a man from Greece who pleased the gods and was able to stay pure in his heart. Both men had many similar attributes and purposes for life, but each had differences that made their stories unique. A commonality in both stories is that mankind harbored evil in their hearts and had no regard for God/Zeus provoking their wraths. According to the Grecian flood story, men became unbearably wicked and no longer lived at peace with each other. They were always at war with each other having no law or safety in the land. In the Bible, God saw how evil men were and how there was nothing but immorality in mans heart. The depravity and iniquity of man are what led to God and Zeus s wrath. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Pope Urban II Pope Urban II delivers a touching an inspiring speech that is meant to highlight the importance of trusting in God in one attempt to overcome their challenges. The pope delivers the message at a time when there is turmoil and the country had been subjected to chaos to misunderstanding by the kings and rulers at the time. In his speech the religious leader employs a prayer in their attempt to convince their followers to embark of the dangerous journey and rescue what belongs to them based on the motivation of bible scriptures. One motivation that the pope uses in luring Christians into the idea of fighting in the holy land is based in the fact that God has given them power unlike other nations to defeat their enemies (Jan). In his speech, Urban II also mentions their uniqueness in the ability to possess courage, and humility means that their God favors them and they do not need to worry as they plan to tackle and overcome the enemy in war. In the motivational speech, the pope further reminds the city members that they need to be aware that God is with them and they should not worry in the battle (Jan). ... Many traditional Native medicines and healing practices were discouraged with the advent of Western medicine, but now there is a movement to return to traditional ways (Zubek, 1994, p. 1924). Modern Western medicine treats the symptoms to cure a diseased state when the body is out of homeostasis. Native American healing traditions do this as well with herbs and plants suited to the purpose. These Native healing traditions also include sacred rituals, chants, and purification rites to help bring the spirit and mind of the afflicted back into balance. Where they disagreed the most was with the use of traditional healing in the intensive care units, only 16.9% agreed with the use of this treatment for serious illness, such as cardiac or respiratory compromise, whether in the hospital (21.2% agreed) or as outpatients (26.4% agreed). Nearly half (48.6%) agreed with using traditional medicines for chronic illnesses, such as non insulin dependent diabetes or Parkinson s disease (Zubek, 1994, p. 1926). One instance where physicians were unwilling to allow their patients to use Native medicine was while the patient is in the hospital, because the physician could be held legally responsible for any treatment administered while admitted under their care. There is also the problem of differentiating between legitimate Native healing practitioners and those who would take advantage of anyone not aware of the proper rituals and techniques that need to be performed (Zubek, 1994, p. 1929). This could be overcome by having a formalized licensing organization such as is used by Western practitioners (i.e. American Society of Clinical Pathology [ASCP]). • 10. A Picture Of Failure At Show Santiago s Persistence,... The author starts the book with a picture of failure to show Santiago s persistence, passion, and courage in the face of defeat. Symbolism is when something abstract is represented with something concrete. Santiago is described as, thin and gaunt with deep wrinkles in the back of his neck , brown blotches of benevolent skin cancer , his hands had deep creased scars from handling heavy fish , and everything about him was old except for his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and where cheerful and undefeated. Santiago s hand scars are his battle wounds and shows that his nature is to overcome obstacles in his path. His wrinkles and cancer spots make him look like a simple old man not concerned with looks showing us his humility. Also his eyes that look undefeated are symbolic of his hope and perseverance. Santiago s home is constructed of tough bud shield from the royal palm. It has basic furniture, a bed, a chair, and a table. The house has dirt floors and on the floor is a place to cook with charcoal. Santiago, like his home, is simple, modest, and strong. Even though he lives somewhat on the goodwill of other people, he manages to survive and endure. Santiago isn t caught up about when he attained humility but recognizes that he does have this trait and is proud of it without being arrogant. Santiago shows that humility and pride aren t mutually different and can be one in the same. Hemingway does admire Santiago through the book. He is constantly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main factors that is responsible for the increase in the incidence of female infanticide and foeticide is the low status of women, son preference, and the practice of dowry across all casts groups. The low status of women and girls is due to cultural beliefs and the material cost they represent to their families. Therefore, they become dependent on men, whether it is the father, the husband or the son. The preference for male children is due to three major reasons. One is the economic value of having sons. Sons are more likely than daughters to provide family labour on the farm or in a family business, earn wages, and support their parents during old age. Upon marriage, a son brings a daughter in law into his family, and she provides additional help around the house as well as she brings riches in the form of dowry payments. Another important advantage of having sons is their social cultural utility. In India patriarchal family system, having one son is essential for the continuation of the family line, and many sons provide high status to the family. Vanaja Dhruvarajan says, When a women becomes a mother, especially the mother of a son, her status goes up in her new home for having helped perpetuate the family (87) Finally, the utility of having sons comes from the important religious functions that only sons can provide. In Hindu tradition, sons are needed to do the funeral of their deceased parents and to help in the salvation of their souls. Faber later points Montag in the direction of the people that are preserving the information inside books, to help Montag run away. Faber helps Montag on his journey to help bring books back into society and to help people understand that there is more to life then what is directly in front of them. • 21. The Golden Age By Aphra Behn In her poem The Golden Age , Aphra Behn divides nature from civilization, almost in a biblical sense of Eden and after Eden. Nature and civilization are separated as a positive and negative experience where love is dishonoured, and sin takes over Earth. Through this before and after division, Behn shows how the fall of mankind led to the oppression of the female sex as woman, associated with love, kept the world pure until man, associated with honour, took over. Thus creating Pleasure, Nature s worst Disease (148). When Nature is overpowered by civilization, gender issues arose. This division of gender issues sets women up to be a tease or object of pleasure rather than an equal lover who is free to her own sexuality. The Golden Age presents the fall of natural order with the rise of man. The beginning of the poem is a very peaceful, Blest Age! (1), with Purling Stream[s] (1), an Eternal Spring (5), and wanton Gods of Love (15). This takes place in the world before the rise of mankind, much like the biblical Garden of Eden. In this flowery place, nature triumphs with love. Nature is referred to as a feminine idea, Virgin Earth;/ Who yielded of her own accord her plenteous Birth (32 33). This can relate to the idea or allusion of Mother Nature, as Earth is commonly referred to as female. Behn tells the reader how roses, as a symbol for virtuousness, live in prosperous morning dew. In this peaceful and young world, two lovers are free to all their Joyes and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. The Chaos and Division of Asia s History Essay The assigned readings about Asian history lead a unified conclusion that the past (history) of Asia was characterized with chaos and internal divisions. China, once again entered an era of divisiveness and chaos. Competing warlords dominated China for the next 350 years (The Golden Age of China: 79). China is a perfect symbol of Asia s history because if studied from the past, the history of China demonstrates how divisions took place in the country s political and economic spheres. China s history reveals how the religion led to emergence of chaos in the country. This shows that religion, in the history of Asia, was more divisive than uniting when individual countries considered their religions as different. Religious harmonization of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initially, Chinese had coexisted well under one rule. However, three powerful dynasties emerged after the Han dynasty, forming three kingdoms of Wei, Shu, and Wu. An element of democracy started getting into China s politics, though at the time of the three dynasties, the kings had amassed power through their naval strength. The fact that power was divided from one kingdom to three, however, shows decentralization of influence, which is an element of democracy. The formation of the three dynasties in China did not offer any practical solution to the chaotic situation in the country. This disapproves the imagination that democracy was growing in the country. If it was indeed democracy, then its growth had not ended. This is because after the formation of the three dynasties, political division in China widened even further. No powerful dynasty in the continent s history appeared to be answering the question of China s unity. It appeared like political plurality had entered in China to stay. For example, the failure of the Jin Dynasty to solve the puzzle of China s political unity shows how divisive China was becoming. Polarization of leadership was more serious in Northern China. This judgment arises from the fact that the Jin dynasty did not solve the puzzle of multiple kingdoms in the north of China. Sixteen kingdoms emerged in the north as the Jin dynasty attempted to unite China. The spread of Buddhism to China, and its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The leaders would then come forward on their chariots and challenge each other to single combat. This was a common method of warfare. It allows for true heroes to be shown and depicts the power of the leaders. The soldiers would enter the battle in chariots, launching javelins into the enemy formations, then dismount for hand to hand combat with more javelin throwing, rock throwing, and hand to hand sword and shield fighting. In the Iliad Homer also mentions the use of the phalanx formation being used by the Greeks. The phalanx is a rectangular mass military formation, usually composed entirely of heavy infantry armed with spears, pikes, or similar weapons . Scholars suggest that the Greeks would have used this tactic because the alignment of shields minimises the chances of projectiles hitting the men, and the men can move as one, strong unit. In book 4 of Homer s Iliad, a major battle in the war is described in detail. After the armies have gathered together all there available forces, they began to march towards each other. The Achaean forces moved forward towards the Trojans covering the horizon with the sight of eminent war. • 26. Essay On Harry Houdini Currently, some people are curious about how Harry Houdini passed away. Was his death natural, or did someone want him dead? One possibility of Harry Houdini s death is that he simply got punched in the stomach. Eric Jill from Snopes writes, Houdini was fond of explaining to his fans that by tightening his abdominal muscles he could withstand the hardest punches to the midsection a man could deliver, and one day a college student [punched Harry.] The stomach punches caught Houdini by surprise before he had time to prepare himself, however, resulting in a trauma that ruptured his appendix and ultimately caused his death a few weeks later (Jill 1). According to Snopes, the article states that Houdini was a accident prone person and often refused medical assistance. Before being punched, Harry had a broken ankle and did not get hospitalized. After getting punched, he soon had a fever and severe stomach pains. Soon, it was apparent Harry was not well and he later got rushed to the hospital. The surgeons found Harry had a ruptured appendix and suffering from periodontitis (A disease caused by a ruptured appendix). Sadly, by the time they removed the appendix it was too late and Harry passed away at October 31, 1926, the day of Halloween. Is his death date coincidental? From the 30th of September 2013, there were a reported 6,403 people in closed detention, this number including 1,078 children. It is not surprising from these high detention rates and poor living standards that between January 2011 and February 2013 that there were 4,313 reported incidents of actual, threatened or attempted serious self harm in these immigration detention facilities. From 12 deaths that occurred between the 1st of July 2010 and the 20th of June 2013 6 of these have been found by coroners to be suicides (Triggs, 2013). These statistics are incredibly alarming, especially when not much action is being taken to prevent not only mental illness but also the consequences of prolonged mental illness suicide. The purpose of this report is to analyse and scrutinize the reason why mental health issues for asylum seekers are becoming an issue in Australia, and find out what exactly is being done to combat this ever growing issue in Australia. Sometimes, their fear also affects others around them because they lack self confidence .When this happens, important relationships suffer. The play The Crucible by Arthur Miller has a dramatic storyline the characters struggle with the Puritan authority and the town people having to make a decision on who is telling the truth and who is hiring. The girls make false accusations because of their fear of the Puritan authorities because they torched Tituba and they can do that to them, also by doing this it may make their lives miserable. The girls are scared of being torched because they know that the authority can hurt anyone and they can do what they want and no one will stop them. An example that shows this from the text is Putnam: This woman must be hanged! She must he taken and hanged! Tituba, terrified, falls to her knees: No, no don t hang Tituba! I tell him I don t desire to work for him, sir (Crucible.1.1119). This is showing how the girls are afraid of them because they have already beat Tituba and she didn t do anything. To add to that it shows the girls if they act a certain way and the authority does not like it the they can punish them by beating them or even worse by hanging them. Another quote that shows this is Parris: then see no spirits now, and prove to us that you can faint by your own will, as you claim. Mary Warner: stares, searching for the ... Write a short paragraph that defines VO2max, explains what it measures and describes some of the most important ways that it can be used in health and sport. VO2max can be defined as the maximum oxygen uptake. This entails the maximum rate at which oxygen is readily available in the body to be taken up and used during aerobic exercise. (Fletcher et al.) It is a very important and commonly used indicator of a person or athletes level of cardiovascular fitness. A high VO2max demonstrates a high level of aerobic fitness, where as a low VO2max indicates a low rate of aerobic fitness. There are two factors that are important in determining a persons VO2max, which are the hearts ability to deliver oxygen to the muscles and the muscles ability to extract the oxygen from the blood and use it (Brown, Miller and Eason). This means that when a person has a high VO2max their body is able to deliver oxygen through the blood efficiently to the muscles in order to maintain high levels of aerobic exercise over an extended period of time. VO2max is a valued measurement of cardiovascular fitness in the Sport industry due to its ability to indicate cardiovascular fitness, as well as the pulmonary and muscular systems efficiency throughout the duration of the exercise (Brown, Miller and Eason). • 31. The Humanity Of Frankenstein In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein For as long as man has encompassed this world, the divisive enigma of humanity has prevailed. Seeping its way into each generation, while sparking heated conversations, it has become evident that there is much we do not know about what truly makes us human. Regardless of our genetic composition, philosophers often ponder the deeper meaning of humanity. We know that, biologically, recreating the genetic makeup of a human does not yield humanity, so what is the missing aspect? Humans have the ability to contemplate their own existence in this world. Awareness of existence. This driving force enables us to analyze situations while placing ourselves within them. Our involuntary ability to understand the impact of our actions and the affect they have on others causes us to be inherently human. Our actions evoke strong emotions within us that allow us to learn through our experiences. We retain the resonated feelings of certain occurrences and apply them to others in order to deduce outcomes. Often this facet of mankind is taken for granted, yet we are reminded, through both literature and hypothetical scenarios, of its importance. Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, constitutes as one of these profound reminders. Shelley develops a theoretical story in which the humanity of Frankenstein s monster is questioned. Where in some instances this may be accurate, it is highly inaccurate in most cases; but I would like to emphasize the word some. Going back to the timeline of the Middle East disputes, we can see that majority of these battles were not established out of religious means. Most were catapulted from land, tax, and regime issues. Take the Wars of the Hellenistic Monarchies in Syria in 318 170 B.C. for example. This is a demonstration of generations of war between the Seleucids and Ptolemy s in an effort to gain control of Syria. Does this differ in comparison to the decades long Palestinian/Israeli war? Unfortunately actions such as these are commonplace nowadays among gangs as they become more and more ruthless. We need to rid ourselves of gangs, that much is clear. However, nowadays we re not in a position to do so. Everyone in the country needs to understand the dangers of gangs and how they can grow anywhere despite law enforcement. Because it s not the police that can do away with gangs for good, it s the citizen s responsibility to ensure these gangs never grow and prosper. A problem facing the common citizen regarding this problem is their perception of gangs, how they view gangs and how they think gangs operate. To the average person when they think of a gang, they think of some teenagers smoking on a street corner brandishing knives. And while that s partially true, it s very far from the whole truth. When it comes to organized crime, there is no one type of gang, there different types of gangs varying in their size, influence, and how dangerous they are. At the bottom of the food chain is the street gangs consisting of a few dozen members at most and, like the name implies, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. How Did James Madison Contribute To The Constitution James Madison is often considered the Father of the Constitution because many of his ideas influenced the Constitution of the United States. Though the entirety of the Constitution was a result of months of deliberation among the delegates, James Madison created important contributions. Many of Madison s contributions intended for the constitution to protect the citizens of the U.S. from tyranny of the government. James Madison believed there was many forms of tyranny and wanted to protect the citizens against all types. Madison believed the most popular and well known form of tyranny was tyranny of the government. In The Federalist Papers: No. 10, James Madison expresses himself by stating There are again two methods of removing the causes of faction: the one, by destroying the liberty which is essential to its existence... By this, James is explaining that in order to end minor organizations and groups, their rights and liberties must be taken away from them, therefore creating a government controlled by a tyrant. • 42. Ray Bradbury s Essay A Sound Of Thunder How can the simplest forms of binary coding drive humanity to absolute insanity? The notion that technology can now make your lives worthless should be a clear and present threat that should push humanity to fix the problem at hand, but we as humans are the most indecisive, naive, and ludicrous beings that this earth has to offer. If we could fix the problem, why are we so quick to filter out and seek methods to destroys us? Ray Bradbury exclaims that technology can destroy humanity; he shows us examples of corruption affecting both man and machine, traveling in time destroying a set path, and people betraying one another for the glory of simplicity to emphasize how hazardous technology could really be. A wholesome idea that both sides of the defining spectrum between man and machine could eventually corrupt each other is a plausible idea that has been a reasonable speculation since the beginning of the intent of an ... This sudden move frightens the very fabric of reality with small and valueless notions suddenly having the biggest potential for changing all aspects of anyone s state of current being. This idea of humans going beyond their bounds and control is greatly noted with Ray Bradbury s short, A Sound Of Thunder , to which he states , Step on a mouse and you crush the Pyramids. Step on a mouse and you leave your print, like a Grand Canyon, across Eternity concluding the idea that stepping on a spec because of your decision can destroy or offset the very existence of any force perpetuated by atomic structure. • 43. Examples Of Informal Deviance The extra credit assignment I chose to talk about was the Informal and Formal deviance talked about in Dalton Conley s book You may ask yourself . According to Conley, there are two forms of deviance, formal and informal. The informal aspect is one where there is no law being broken but more along the lines of breaking a social norm. The second form of deviance is formal and this is where a law is broken and you will be punished accordingly (Conley, D. 2017. P. 191). In my image above the white man is drinking out of the colored water fountain which back in the 1940 s was illegal and this is a formal deviance, or crime, which is the violation of laws enacted by society. By Tallulah Stacey Bateman The Dressmaker is a movie based on the book written by Rosalie Ham. It tells the story of a woman named Tilly determined to figure out the mysteries of her past. The classic spaghetti westerns have many things in common with The Dressmaker . Some similar cinematic techniques include camera angles and shots, setting, costuming and themes. In Lone Ranger (Directed by Stuart Heisler), it is seen that a hero dubbed the Lone Ranger, a western version of Robin Hood, is depicted as a saviour of the innocent. When he is enlisted to unknowingly help the bad guys Lone Ranger decides to help the Indian Tribal people recover their lands. In The Dressmaker , Tilly seeks a personal injustice that happened to herself when she was blamed for the murder of her half brother, Stewart, when in truth he killed himself by mistake. Here we can see that both themes of injustice are battled by each of the protagonist s own moral code and abilities. Having a faulted yet lovable protagonist can make the modern audience want to support them in their adventures and trials, and also able to relate to the character s situations. Love is another key theme in spaghetti westerns with the classic idea of damsels in distress . Having this stereotype makes the audience believe that the hero and their damsel are meant to be. Magnetic secure transmission employs the technology of electromagnetism to transmit payment card data to payment terminals that are equipped with traditional magnetic stripe readers. This essentially turns every traditional point of sale terminal that s used for swipe card transactions into a potential contactless payment system without the need to modify or upgrade the hardware. The MST technology was developed by LoopPay, a small development company that was acquired by Samsung in February 2015 and is the driver behind Samsung Pay. Electricity is passed through a small metal coil inside the smartphone which generates a magnetic field that can now communicate with standard magnetic payment card readers. The phone can now emulate the physical process of swiping a card through the point of sale terminal allowing for the same familiar transaction process without the need to produce and swipe the actual card. • 46. Museum Of Disability Essay The Museum of Disability was very informative on displaying the progressive history of individuals with disabilities. Prior to visiting the museum, I only knew that people with certain disabilities perform in the circus, but did not know how badly they were being treated. People often forget that those with disabilities are still human and have rights like any other human being. The ways people perceive individual with disabilities have majorly progressed since the Middle Ages until now. In the Middle Ages, those with disabilities were called idiots, which meant they were ignorant or not well informed. Growing up with disabilities was hard during this time. Many became street beggars, while a few served as jesters for the royal courts. In rural areas, family used their disabled family members to help around the house. Esquirol took Pinel s place at Salpetriere and continued the humane treatment. He became the first person to differentiate between mental deficiency and insanity. He felt that the chance of improvement was with the insane, not the mentally deficient.
