Essay On Changing Car Oil
While most people nowadays, rarely think about changing their car oil. But little do they know, that
regularly changing a car s engine oil is one of the most important things you can possibly do to keep a
car running without any problems or mishaps. Without regular oil changes, the old oil inside of a car,
will break down and clog a car s oil filter, causing a hefty price for repairs and replacements. The
general population, might not know this, but changing the oil of a car is both inexpensive and easy.
The change begins by driving the car into a driveway or a spot with enough allocated space to work
beneath the vehicle and outside the vehicle. This is done to make sure, that an individual does not
cause any accidental damage to a person, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As soon as the oil cap bolt has been screwed back on, new oil has to be added. Locate the the fill hole
at the top of the engine. If location cannot be verified, look to the left of the engine, and there should
be a cap. Before anything is done, it is heavily recommended that vehicle capabilities are checked in
the owner s manual, to insure how much oil the vehicle can take. Too much oil intake may cause
blockage, so please be wary.
Once the new oil has been inserted, it is recommended that the engine is turned off and on to double
check that everything is running smoothly with the oil pressure. This can be verified, by checking the
red engine light turn off and on after startup. If that is not the case, then a bolt is not tightened
properly, and is oozing out liquid or oil.
As another verification method, the dipstick can be pulled out of the vehicle to double check the
pressure. This is located to the bottom left of the engine. It generally looks like a long metal rod.
Simply pull this out, and check to see if both holes on the bottom of the stick are shaded in with oil. If
this is the case, then a successful oil change has been

Phantom Limbs, Phantom Pain, And The Essay
Phantom Limbs, Phantom Pain, And The I Function
The so called I function which describes the brain s sense of self takes on interesting connotations
when discussing phantom limbs and associated phantom pain. The loss of an arm or leg through
amputation is not an easy experience to endure, and is even more difficult when the patient begins to
feel sensations in their now missing limb. These feelings, sometimes referred to as stump
hallucination , is the subjective sensation, not arising from an external stimulus, that an amputated
limb is still present (1). Although they no longer exist, patients perceive these limbs as still being
essential components of their body image, and continues to move in sync with their torso and other ...

Since there is no visual feedback, initiating motor intention does not activate proprioreceptors (4).
Over time, phantom limbs are deemed by the amputee to be overflexed, which causes a cramping
pain. The question that arises is, if the inconsistency between the intention of the brain and the
perception of the body s actions was to be resolved, could the phantom pain also be eliminated?
Several theories have been developed over the years that have attempted to answer this question, most
notably by Ronald Melzack and Vilayanur Ramachandran.
The earliest hypothesis regarding the cause of phantom limbs and pain was that of neuromas. These
were thought to be nodules comprised of remaining nerves located at the end of the stump. These
neuromas presumably continued to generate impulses that traveled up the spinal cord to portions of
the thalamus and somatosensory domains of the cortex. As a result, treatment involved cutting the
nerves just above the neuroma in an attempt to interrupt signaling at each somatosensory level (5).
This and other related theories were deemed unsatisfactory because of the fact the phantom pain
always returned, indicating that there was a more complex reason.
Psychologist Ronald Melzack developed the concept of the neuromatrix and the neurosignature. This
idea held that the brain contained a neuromatrix or a network of neurons that analyzed the sensory
information and allowed the perception of

The Chaucer s The Pardoner s Tale
The Pardoner s Tale is a package in book form. It has it all greed, gluttony, drunkenness, murder, bad
guys getting what s coming to them. What s not to like? And we don t even need a pardon after
reading it, because in the end, it s a morality lesson (Do you get it?) Anyways, the pilgrims are going
on a trip from London to Canterbury, where a group of medieval pilgrims are making their way to visit
the remains of Saint Thomas Becket in the hope of getting some forgiveness from sin. To pass the
time, they take turns telling stories. They will each tell a tale and the one they find the most amusing
they will get a prize! One of them is a Pardoner, a low level Church official who travels around selling
pardons, which are just what they sound like. Pardons are documents signed by the Pope that grants
pardon for sins. The host asks the pardoner to tell a tale. Before he began his tale, the Pardoner
exposes himself. Before he starts his tale, he reveals himself. He does that by revealing the tricks of
his trade to all the pilgrims. This Pardoner roams all over the countryside giving out pardons and fake
relics just to get money. That s all he cares about; he couldn t care less about the souls of the people
who buy his pardons and relics. He d take money from the poorest person in town if he had to (money,
money, money that s all he cares about) When he finally tells his tale, he describes it as one of the
morality tales he preaches to encourage penitence and to

Boston Food Truck Essay
DISCUSSION
Regulation and Permits
To operate food trucks in the City of Boston, vendors need to apply and pay for a Mobile Food Truck
Permit. The permit is issued by the Department of Public Works and it is valid for one year. The cost
for the permit is $500.
Health Regulation
Boston city government recommends food truck vendors to bring their operation plans to a Health
Inspector BEFORE they start to build their food trucks.
Food truck vendors should bring the following documents for the health inspector to review:
1. Equipment Specification and Plans.
2. A completed Health Permit Application Form (it must contain information about the cooking
process).
3. Menu sample.
Upon successful inspection of the documents, food truck vendors must pay a cost of $100 for one year
health permit. After food truck vendors have built their truck, they are needed to be inspected once
more. Food trucks must be inspected at 1010 Massachusetts Avenue, from Monday to Friday at 8:00

It is important to recognize that there are no one size fits all prescription for how best to incorporate
food trucks into the fabric of a community. Many characteristics contribute to the complexity and
vibrancy of a city, including political climate, state laws, demographics, and the existing restaurant
industry. With this in mind, the recommendations included here are intended to be flexible enough to
accommodate different circumstances, but logical enough to provide useful guidance. They can serve
as a road map that will help cities establish a regulatory framework best suited to their unique
circumstances and that takes into account the whole spectrum of stakeholder needs and concerns. Over
and above, the truck food business is the way to go, if you don t want to bother yourself with the cost
of securing a location to build a restaurant, as well as if you want to make fast money from the

The Club Licensing And Financial Fair Play Regulations
Introduction
With UEFA bringing in the FFP rules in European football has caused a major confusion and

Rhetorical Devices In The Masque Of The Red Death
In both Masque of the Red Death and Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe, the author uses specific
elements to express meaning and to develop a theme. He is portraying the idea that neither love nor
death has a limit, no matter what we want to imagine. We have no control of either, especially death.
In The Masque of The Red Death Poe makes the inference that death is inevitable or inescapable. In
Annabel Lee he uses the power of two character s love to show that death is not preventable no matter
what you do. Also, he shows that love never vanishes even after death. In both selections, Poe uses
rhetorical devices such as parallelism, symbolism, and imagery to draw the reader into the story. In the
story The Masque of the Red Death , Poe expresses the theme that death is inescapable or inevitable.
He expresses this theme through rhetorical devices such as symbolism and allegory. For example,
Prince Prospero s chambers were allegorical because of the rooms arrangement which was from east
to west. The east represents the beginning of life, while the west represents the end of life. The
Darkroom, which was at the end of the hall, symbolized death. It was the room that the guests didn t
want to go in and eventually was the place that they were killed by the Black Death. Another example
of symbolism is the clock which as a symbol of the time lapse of life as a human being. It was in this
apartment, also, that there stood against the western wall a gigantic clock of ebony...and when the
minute hand made the circuit of the face, and the hour was to be stricken, there came from the brazen
lungs of the clock a sound which was clear and loud and deep and exceedingly musical, but of so
peculiar a note and emphasis that, at each lapse of an hour the musicians of the orchestra were
constrained to pause, momentarily (Poe 374). This sentence expresses how compelling the clock is
and how it attracts the attention of the masqueraders. The author also uses imagery to build suspense
upon the reader. An example would be how the author describes the Red Death. His vesture was
dabbled in blood and his broad brow, with all the features of the face, was besprinkled with the scarlet
horror (Poe 378). This describes the dreadful

The Theory Of Behaviorism And Operant Conditioning
B.F Skinner Renowned American psychologist B.F. Skinner, well known for his theory on
behaviorism and operant conditioning. He was the most influential 20th century psychologist. His
works includes The Behavior of Organisms (1938) which was about the results in his experiment with
operant conditioning, and a novel based on his theories Walden (1948). He was not only a
psychologist he was a behaviorist, teacher, author, inventor, and a social philosopher as well. Born as
Burrhus Frederic Skinner, in a small town of Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. As a young boy he was
active, out going who loved the outdoors and was fascinated in building gadgets and contraptions. As
he grew up, in 1926 Skinner attended Hamilton College in New York, where broaden a passion for
writing, but he did not have much success with writing. So he made the decision to pursue psychology
at Harvard University. After Skinner earned his doctorate at Harvard, he started working and
developed ideas of human behavior. He was influenced by the work of John B. Watson and Ivan
Pavlov as well. During his time at Harvard he wanted a verifiable way to study psychology. In result,
he developed a machine called Operant Conditioning in 1937, known as the Skinner Box. Skinner s
theory was that the external behavior should be observed only, he was more focused on how the
consequences can impact a person s behavior. He wanted to analyze how a consequences of a behavior

The Construction Of The Parthenon In Athens, Greece
The Parthenon is located in Athens,Greece. It was constructed approximately in 447 BC and
completed around 432 BC as a temple dedicated to the Goddess Athena., which the original one was
destroyed in Persian Invasion of 480 BC. The Parthenon was used primarily as a treasury. In the sixth
century AD, it was converted into a Christian church, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. During the
Ottoman conquest it became a Mosque which was around 1460 s. The Parthenon was partially
destroyed in 1687.
The architects were Iktinos and Kallikrates with a mention of Vitruv and dedicated to the Goddess
Athena Pallas or Parthenos (virgin). It s main function was to house the statues of Athena which were
made of gold and ivory by Phedias. The inner chamber was unusually large so it could house the

Volunteering Motivations And Their Well Being
An Integrative Research Paper On:
VOLUNTEERING MOTIVATIONS AND THEIR WELL BEING by Joseph A. Sagadraca
Summer 2015 Practicum at the American Red Cross
University of North Florida
Dr. Jody Nicholson
July 31, 2015
ABSTRACT
With considerable amounts of psychological research focused on volunteers, this paper will attempt to
indicate and reiterate the motivations of volunteers in non profit organizations through an integrative
style of thinking. A lot of research is based on the well being of a person in regards to their motivation,
so this research paper will target the potentially important aspects a volunteer associates themselves
with, with respect of their motivations and their well being. No real research has been done, but
through an internship at the American Red Cross, this will assist the integrative style of writing to
produce helpful information for volunteers and their motivations.
INTRODUCTION For many years, millions of people have engaged in some kind of volunteering act
that has contributed to a number of unimaginable hours of work. Of these people though, 49% have
represented the adult population with a quarter of them having devoted their time to 5 or more hours
per week for volunteering (the motivations to volunteer). These figures for volunteering have been
inspiring for psychologists to seek and understand the instrumental factors that lead people to
volunteer. Several arguments have been stirred throughout the years, but importantly,

The Narrative Of The Captivity And The Restoration Of Mrs....
An Indian attack on Lancaster during King Phillip s War resulted in the capture of twenty four people.
Mary Rowlandson was among these captives, and the resulting captivity narrative, titled The Narrative
of the Captivity and the Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, published in 1682, is formed based on
her memory. Rowlandson s captivity narrative carried great significance in that it came to be used as a
didactic Jeremiad, leading its Calvinist audience back towards God s path and away from an
allegorical wilderness. As a devout Calvinist, Rowlandson believes that her journey through captivity
is a test wrought by her God. Her deep desire to prove herself to her God comes through clearly in
several situations that ultimately define her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon returning from pillaging another English town, an Indian offers Mary Rowlandson a gift of a
Bible, which he had stolen from a dead English townsperson. The usage of the word plunder connoted
the violent force used to obtain the Bible. This enhances the significance of the irony of Rowlandson
overlooking the fact that someone was murdered in order for her to receiver her gift. Rowlandson s
Calvinist views, which made her believe that God brought the Bible to her, outweighed any sympathy
for nay anonymous English person, and the intended demographic (late 15th century Calvinists) of
readers of this captivity narrative would have agreed. An alternative example presents itself when
Rowlandson attempts to convince Goodwife Joslin, a very pregnant captive who was becoming
impatient and wanted to go home, not to run away., I wished her not to run away by any means [...]
We opened the Bible and lightened on Psalm 27 [...] Wait on the Lord, Be good of courage, and he
shall strengthen thine Heart, wait I say on the Lord. (4); Rowlandson utilizes her Bible as a tool to
steer others into the light of God, whether it means deteriorating their own safety and health, proving
that she will lack sympathy for humans in favor of devotion to her God. Mary Rowlandson s feelings
toward food, even in times of starvation, are shaped by her belief that God provides (or does not
provide) everything. Three weeks go by, and Mary Rowlandson finds herself

Renaming my brother was perhaps the kindest thing I ever did for him, because nobody expects much

he wasn t idle. He talked so much that we all quit listening to what he said. It was about this time that

To discourage his coming with me, I d run with him across the ends of the cotton rows and careen him

His skin was very sensitive, and he had to wear a big straw hat whenever he went out.

it can be made in to various other useful materials. The major phases in this experiment were to heat
up, cool off, put the solution in an ice bath, and then allow to dry. While in the heating up phase the
color changed to a black/grey color as the Aluminum reacted with the KOH. When cooling off the
solution it was a clear color due to the Aluminum being strained out. After adding the H2SO4 the
mixture s temperature heated up due to the reaction of the solution and the H2SO4. Then while in the
ice bath for about 29 minutes the clear solution turned a liquid white color. After the substance was
dried using a vacuum procedure a white powdered substance remained. The substance was allowed to

Articles Of Confederation And Decentralization Of The States
Under the Articles of Confederation, the United States government was decentralized. The states had
more power than the federal government. State governments had the power to tax but the federal
government did not (Janda 62). This caused congress to have to beg for money from the states in order
to pay for the cost of the Revolutionary War and the cost of starting a new nation. Another issue under
the Articles of Confederation was the lack of economic control the federal government had on the
states (63). The national government attempted to restrict foreign imports but the states did not listen
and continued making deals with foreign countries. This caused debt and bankruptcy to fall upon
numerous states. The Articles of Confederation also

Sick Leave Research Paper
Introduction Sick leave whether it is paid or unpaid is time off from work that employees can use to
stay home to attend to their health needs or the health needs of immediate family members. Labor law
in the United States currently doesn t require employers to provide paid sick days in the short term nor
does it require employers to offer longer term paid sick leave for more serious illnesses. Furthermore,
the current law doesn t protect workers from termination should they miss work due to sickness
(Heymann, J., Rho, H., Schmitt, J., Earl, A, 2009). In collective bargaining, however, unions can
negotiate additional protections regarding sick leave, which may include short and long term disability

Shakespeare In Modern Society
Shakespeare relevance in modern society is a highly debated topic in modern classrooms. Many
students will argue that he is old and is to confusing, others will say he s boring. Then on the other
side of the argument students argue that he has shaped the modern english language and has changed
society for the better. Whilst others are undecided, listening to both sides of the argument and not
being able to decide. In this essay both sides will be discussed; talking about quoting shakespeare and
how much we use his words and phrases everyday, how the emotions in shakespeare s plays are still
relevant in modern society and audiences still react in the way the play intended and finally how social
norms have changed and it is no longer socially acceptable with it putting the wrong ideas into people
s heads.
Everyone quotes shakespeare or uses on of his works at least once everyday. Most people don t even
realize we are doing it. Most people probably think it s greek to me (a phrase created by shakespeare),
when really it is very common In between writing poems and plays shakespeare was creating new
words and phrases to fit his plays and other works. Shakespeare almost created a whole nother
language in his time creating round 1700 words. A study has shown that people quote shakespeare at
least four times everyday, which is pretty impressive for a guy that has been dead for 400 years.
Shakespeare has had a massive influence on the english language and he is very important

Fatah And Hamas Conflict
The violence pointed back to when Palestinians protested against the Israelis from occupying the West
Bank and Gaza by violence and civil unrest, which brought on a series of action called Intifada
(uprising) in the middle east. The Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin shook hands with the Palestinian at
the White House after signing the Oslo Agreement. This agreement failed to hold and strength and the
region became unsettled, which caused conflict with the Palestinian leaders. Hamas gains their
popular support through well funded social actions, which grew out of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Hamas sponsored the building of schools and hospitals, and ran other charitable and religious
organizations (Economist). Both Fatah and Hamas were opposed to the PLO leadership in Palestine.
That Fatah and Hamas were reconciliation agreement to signal the end of divisive fighting between
the two group for the control of Palestine. Those agreements failed to hold up between to two political
parties. Fatah was not happy with the Palestinian choosing Hamas to protect the citizens. The Fatah
Hamas conflict exploded in 2006, when Hamas won more seats than Fatah did in the legislative

What Is The Mood Of The Banquet By Rene Magritte
In this painting, The Banquet (1958) made in oil on canvas, we can see a beautiful, but the unfamiliar
landscape with a strange red circle in the middle of the painting. This artwork was painted by Rene
Magritte with a very realistic color palette. It seems like painted with reference to real objects: there
are red, orange, blue, green, dark green, black, beige, and gray in this landscape. In the foreground of
the artwork, there is a stone wall with a stone vase. A group of trees stands on the back of the wall,
then a line and then a field of trees. The sky is covered with several tones of red. Dark red color was
used on each side of the painting, and lighter colors appear in the middle. In the center of the painting

Magritte was influenced by Romanticism and created a Surrealist art movement in Belgium. He
regarded all of art things important, and especially interested in the poetry. Through his painting, he
created the poetic imagery that can be called his own Surrealistic style. Magritte s painting induces
viewers to upend conventional thinking. Magritte spoke of this determination to make the most
familiar objects scream aloud : the more familiar the object, the louder it would scream when divorced
from its habitat, seen in a new light (qtd. in Calvocoressi 6). His painting seems to be describing real
objects, but the sense of the strange and quizzical appears when these real objects in the background
appear in the foreground, or vice versa. Either the sun appears impossibly before the trees, on there is
a hole in the forest framing the sun. This is a very different style of art, compared with other art
movements like Realism. He challenged himself to think outside of the box and change other artist s
ideas about seeing and making. Magritte s major contribution to painting is how he defamiliarizes

The Accounting Treatment Of Leases
Introduction
According to Steve Collings (2010), the accounting treatment of leases has presented a lot of problems
over the years for the particular profession. Problems are observed in the way some leases are being
treated in a business income statement and statement of financial position. Although, as we are going
to expand more on that, the major problem of accounting for leases according to Collings (2010), is
the manipulation of financial statements by incorrectly categorizing finance leases as operating leases
. The main purpose of the essay is to discuss why accounting for leases has been so controversial and
whether the new standard (IFRS16) will give a more meaningful picture of companies financial
position for lessees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Finance Leases
According to IAS 17.20, at the beginning of the lease term, lessees shall recognise finance leases as
assets and liabilities in their statements of financial position at a lower or equal amount to the fair
value of the leased property and the present value of the minimum lease payments, determined at the
start of the lease. The discount rate used in calculation of the present value of the minimum lease
payments is the interest rate implied in the lease, if only is it feasible to determine. If it is not possible,
the lessee s incremental borrowing rate could be used. Therefore, any initial direct costs of the lessee
are added to the amount recognised as an asset. Furthermore, as stated by IAS 17.25, finance lease
payments should be allocated

Population Health Management Paper
Population Health Management is the iterative process of managing clinical, financial and operational
entities to help boost health outcomes and patient engagement, while also decreasing expenses (Mellin
Funk, 2014). This capstone project will depict what Population Health Management (PHM) is and
how it is incorporated within the military and civilian healthcare industry. It will focus on what PHM
can bring to healthcare organizations as well as discussing the challenges they could face. PHM can be
powerful instrument for improving the health of the community when utilized correctly. New
technologies, laws and regulations will be broken down and discussed to show how they each play a
role in implementing a PHM program. Gardner (2014) stated ... Show more content on

Patient Registries. These registries are used to collect and document administrative data, clinical data
and preventive health care information. PHM relies on electronic health information. Patient
Registries are computerized systems that will maintain data for individual patients especially if they
have a specific disease (Howard, 2015).
Personal Health Records: To help improve PHM programs patients and physicians need to be actively
involved. In order to help engage patients a personal health record should be established. This will
allow patients to view their own clinical results and be able to communicate with their health care
team.
Conclusion
The rapidly increase of health care costs and the limited amount of access to healthcare readily
available has made the United States alter the way their healthcare is delivered to the population.
Population Health Management (PHM) programs are being promoted as a tactical initiative for the
future state of all healthcare organizations (Cassidy, 2013). Population Health Management is the
topic of many studies as an iterative strategy for success as the healthcare industry changes in regards
to the government s regulations. It is also a valuable tool used to deduct costs. Health care
administrators need to focus on developing and implementing a Population Heath Management
program. Population health management gives organizations the opportunities to utilize technology to
help connect with and manage an individual s

Essay on The Linux
The Linux was originally founded by Linus Torvalds. In 1991, he was a second year computer science
student in Finland. He sought after an operating system that was similar to the UNIX system, but both
UNIX and the hardware it ran on were excessively expensive. A UNIX version called Minix was
available for free, but it did not reasonably meet his needs as it was simply an operating system for
students, designed primarily as a teaching tool rather than an industry strength operating system. As a
result, Torvalds studied Minix and proceeded to set out to write a new version. After six months of
working to produce the new operating system, Torvalds made very little progress toward the utility of
the system.
He began to post his intentions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many systems architecture, the kernel is the lowest level of software that interfaces with the
hardware in a computer. In UNIX, users typically have no direct access to it. It is responsible for
interfacing all applications that run in user mode including the physical hardware and allowing
processes to get information from each other.
Linux kernel developers designed kernel modules that could be loaded and unloaded at runtime.
Kernel modules are essential to keeping the kernel functioning with all of the computer s hardware
without consuming all of the available memory. A module generally adds functions based on the users
needs to the base kernel for things like file systems and devices. A kernel is essential for any computer
system to run and operate properly. The Linux kernel is different than OS X and Windows because it
includes drivers at the kernel level, and most other operating systems do not. (Salzman, 2005.)
The Linux operating system has been developed by many intelligent people. Around two percent of
the Linux kernel was actually written by Torvalds himself. Today, the Linux kernel has received
contributions from thousands of developers across the globe. Torvalds remains the definitive authority
on what new codes are incorporated into the Linux kernel. However, Linux distribution modifies the
kernel according to each of their users

The Creation Stories And Cultural Characteristics Of The...
There are many different types of stories, some fairy tales and some are origin myths. Within each
story there are different things not seen by just reading the story and not thinking about the deeper
meaning behind it. Such as in origin myths there are cultural characteristics. Cultural characteristics
are the beliefs of a culture in which its society is based off of. These cultural characteristics can be
seen as a blend of beliefs that tie the people to the land around them. This is very evident when
looking at the creation stories of ingenious people. Each culture has different characteristics. For
example the indigenous creation stories called The Earth on Turtle s Back , When Grizzlies Walked
Upright , and the Navajo origin legend; all have characteristics of the Native American culture. Such
as the Native American cultural characteristics that you should respect animals, nature, and elders.
Those cultural characteristics are very evident throughout the first two stories. The third creation story
has different cultural characteristics. The story The Earth on The Turtle s back has many cultural
characteristics throughout the story. They are there, but they are hidden within story throughout the
text. For example in the text the chief tells his wife that her dreams have power. After that the chief
digs up the tree, and for the Onondaga, they believe that powerful dreams should come true. Another
example of cultural characteristics throughout the text is the

Biological Theories Of Criminal Behavior
Biological Theories of Criminal Behavior Many biological theories of crime have been developed to
explain the analysis of crime and criminality. Scientific studies of research have formed theories as to
what makes a criminal a criminal and what social factors can contribute to criminality. As a result,
criminology scientists Cesare Lombroso, William Sheldon, and Sandberg believe that the presence of
certain physical traits made it more likely that an individual would become a criminal. The three
scientist each share significant theories of criminal characteristics, criminal personality and criminal
behavioral tendencies. Criminologist Cesare Lombroso studied scientifically the born criminal
Atavism theory, which he believed modern criminals share physical characteristics with primitive
humans, Sheldon studied the somatotype theory, the three body types relating to an individual
personality and Franz Gall discovered and studied the phrenology theory, bumps on the head could
indicate certain criminal tendencies. Each theorist philosophy of criminality conveys a scientific
hypothesis as to what biosocial elements of crime establishes an individual as a criminal. In 1987,
while conducting an autopsy of the brigand Villella, Lombroso experienced an unusual, but interesting
epiphany while examining the skull of criminal Villella Giuseppe. Cesare Lombroso discovered an
indention at the base of the skull that he perceived to be commonly shared only amongst apes.

Two years later, Wayne Huizenga, founder of Waste Management, and two of his colleagues

Prometheus And The Instinctive Man
Prometheus, a tale over 2000 years old, is still as relevant in the modern era as it was all those years
ago in Athens. Prometheus is seen throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, especially in pop
culture, frequently as a martyr and hero, however there is a much more profound parallel that can be
made about his timeless character. He represents the consequences of when one seeks knowledge,
independency, and especially enlightenment. From his deviance to his torture, we see how prometheus
and the modern man are alike. Prometheus gave humans fire, by doing so that meant that he no longer
needed nor respected the gods and that humans would soon follow that example. Prometheus offered
an escape from the patriarchal Zeus, who can be compared to the Judeo Christian God, and for doing

is shut up within the circle of his private interests...we remain like a garrison in a beleaguered fortress,
knowing that the enemy prevents escape and that ultimate surrender is inevitable. In such a life there
is no peace, but a constant strife between the insistence of desire and the powerlessness of will. In one
way or another, if our life is to be great and free, we must escape this prison and this strife.(35 36) In

Identification Of Unknown Amino Acid
Identification of Unknown Amino Acid
Measurements of Buffer Capacity
Student #: 998493250
Authors: Young, Lee Melissa
Abstract
The titration curve of the unknown exhibited many characteristics, such as equivalence points, pKa of
ionizable groups, isoelectric point, and buffer regions, that are particularly distinct to lysine. For
unclear reasons, the pH during the titration did not reach the pH for pure 0.2 M NaOH nor 0.2 M HCl
and normal equivalence points expected at two extreme ends of the titration curves for all amino acids
were not observed. The titration of a phosphate buffer showed that the buffer capacity is directly
proportional to the molarity of the buffer. However, our results showed that although the initial pH of
the phosphate buffer was less than the pKa value, the measured buffer capacity was higher towards
acid than base. The accuracy of the pH meter and calibration process was questioned under
assumptions that the pH of the prepared phosphate buffer was actually above pKa.
Introduction
The hydrogen ion (H+) concentration is extremely important to living organisms. Even small changes
in H+ ¬¬ion concentration can cause serious consequences to the structural and functional integrity of
molecules. Consequently, it is important to regulate the pH within strict limits so that important
biochemical processes of living systems can proceed normally.
Buffers play a crucial role in maintaining a relatively constant pH in living organisms.

  • 2. Essay On Changing Car Oil While most people nowadays, rarely think about changing their car oil. But little do they know, that regularly changing a car s engine oil is one of the most important things you can possibly do to keep a car running without any problems or mishaps. Without regular oil changes, the old oil inside of a car, will break down and clog a car s oil filter, causing a hefty price for repairs and replacements. The general population, might not know this, but changing the oil of a car is both inexpensive and easy. The change begins by driving the car into a driveway or a spot with enough allocated space to work beneath the vehicle and outside the vehicle. This is done to make sure, that an individual does not cause any accidental damage to a person, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As soon as the oil cap bolt has been screwed back on, new oil has to be added. Locate the the fill hole at the top of the engine. If location cannot be verified, look to the left of the engine, and there should be a cap. Before anything is done, it is heavily recommended that vehicle capabilities are checked in the owner s manual, to insure how much oil the vehicle can take. Too much oil intake may cause blockage, so please be wary. Once the new oil has been inserted, it is recommended that the engine is turned off and on to double check that everything is running smoothly with the oil pressure. This can be verified, by checking the red engine light turn off and on after startup. If that is not the case, then a bolt is not tightened properly, and is oozing out liquid or oil. As another verification method, the dipstick can be pulled out of the vehicle to double check the pressure. This is located to the bottom left of the engine. It generally looks like a long metal rod. Simply pull this out, and check to see if both holes on the bottom of the stick are shaded in with oil. If this is the case, then a successful oil change has been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Phantom Limbs, Phantom Pain, And The Essay Phantom Limbs, Phantom Pain, And The I Function The so called I function which describes the brain s sense of self takes on interesting connotations when discussing phantom limbs and associated phantom pain. The loss of an arm or leg through amputation is not an easy experience to endure, and is even more difficult when the patient begins to feel sensations in their now missing limb. These feelings, sometimes referred to as stump hallucination , is the subjective sensation, not arising from an external stimulus, that an amputated limb is still present (1). Although they no longer exist, patients perceive these limbs as still being essential components of their body image, and continues to move in sync with their torso and other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since there is no visual feedback, initiating motor intention does not activate proprioreceptors (4). Over time, phantom limbs are deemed by the amputee to be overflexed, which causes a cramping pain. The question that arises is, if the inconsistency between the intention of the brain and the perception of the body s actions was to be resolved, could the phantom pain also be eliminated? Several theories have been developed over the years that have attempted to answer this question, most notably by Ronald Melzack and Vilayanur Ramachandran. The earliest hypothesis regarding the cause of phantom limbs and pain was that of neuromas. These were thought to be nodules comprised of remaining nerves located at the end of the stump. These neuromas presumably continued to generate impulses that traveled up the spinal cord to portions of the thalamus and somatosensory domains of the cortex. As a result, treatment involved cutting the nerves just above the neuroma in an attempt to interrupt signaling at each somatosensory level (5). This and other related theories were deemed unsatisfactory because of the fact the phantom pain always returned, indicating that there was a more complex reason. Psychologist Ronald Melzack developed the concept of the neuromatrix and the neurosignature. This idea held that the brain contained a neuromatrix or a network of neurons that analyzed the sensory information and allowed the perception of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And we don t even need a pardon after reading it, because in the end, it s a morality lesson (Do you get it?) Anyways, the pilgrims are going on a trip from London to Canterbury, where a group of medieval pilgrims are making their way to visit the remains of Saint Thomas Becket in the hope of getting some forgiveness from sin. To pass the time, they take turns telling stories. They will each tell a tale and the one they find the most amusing they will get a prize! The host asks the pardoner to tell a tale. Before he began his tale, the Pardoner exposes himself. Before he starts his tale, he reveals himself. He does that by revealing the tricks of his trade to all the pilgrims. This Pardoner roams all over the countryside giving out pardons and fake relics just to get money. That s all he cares about; he couldn t care less about the souls of the people who buy his pardons and relics. He d take money from the poorest person in town if he had to (money, money, money that s all he cares about) When he finally tells his tale, he describes it as one of the morality tales he preaches to encourage penitence and to ... • 13. Rhetorical Devices In The Masque Of The Red Death In both Masque of the Red Death and Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe, the author uses specific elements to express meaning and to develop a theme. He is portraying the idea that neither love nor death has a limit, no matter what we want to imagine. We have no control of either, especially death. In The Masque of The Red Death Poe makes the inference that death is inevitable or inescapable. In Annabel Lee he uses the power of two character s love to show that death is not preventable no matter what you do. Also, he shows that love never vanishes even after death. In both selections, Poe uses rhetorical devices such as parallelism, symbolism, and imagery to draw the reader into the story. In the story The Masque of the Red Death , Poe expresses the theme that death is inescapable or inevitable. He expresses this theme through rhetorical devices such as symbolism and allegory. For example, Prince Prospero s chambers were allegorical because of the rooms arrangement which was from east to west. The east represents the beginning of life, while the west represents the end of life. The Darkroom, which was at the end of the hall, symbolized death. It was the room that the guests didn t want to go in and eventually was the place that they were killed by the Black Death. Another example of symbolism is the clock which as a symbol of the time lapse of life as a human being. It was in this apartment, also, that there stood against the western wall a gigantic clock of ebony...and when the minute hand made the circuit of the face, and the hour was to be stricken, there came from the brazen lungs of the clock a sound which was clear and loud and deep and exceedingly musical, but of so peculiar a note and emphasis that, at each lapse of an hour the musicians of the orchestra were constrained to pause, momentarily (Poe 374). This sentence expresses how compelling the clock is and how it attracts the attention of the masqueraders. The author also uses imagery to build suspense upon the reader. An example would be how the author describes the Red Death. His vesture was dabbled in blood and his broad brow, with all the features of the face, was besprinkled with the scarlet horror (Poe 378). This describes the dreadful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A lot of research is based on the well being of a person in regards to their motivation, so this research paper will target the potentially important aspects a volunteer associates themselves with, with respect of their motivations and their well being. Of these people though, 49% have represented the adult population with a quarter of them having devoted their time to 5 or more hours per week for volunteering (the motivations to volunteer). Rowlandson s captivity narrative carried great significance in that it came to be used as a didactic Jeremiad, leading its Calvinist audience back towards God s path and away from an allegorical wilderness. Rowlandson s Calvinist views, which made her believe that God brought the Bible to her, outweighed any sympathy for nay anonymous English person, and the intended demographic (late 15th century Calvinists) of readers of this captivity narrative would have agreed. In the reaction the with KOH, the first reaction, a gaseous reaction occurred producing hydrogen gas; therefore, the need to work under a fume was in place. In the second, reaction using H2SO4, heat was a byproduct. So the need to allow the solution to cool completely prior to adding H2SO4 was the necessity in that reaction. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In many systems architecture, the kernel is the lowest level of software that interfaces with the hardware in a computer. In UNIX, users typically have no direct access to it. It is responsible for interfacing all applications that run in user mode including the physical hardware and allowing processes to get information from each other. Linux kernel developers designed kernel modules that could be loaded and unloaded at runtime. Kernel modules are essential to keeping the kernel functioning with all of the computer s hardware without consuming all of the available memory. A module generally adds functions based on the users needs to the base kernel for things like file systems and devices. A kernel is essential for any computer system to run and operate properly. The Linux kernel is different than OS X and Windows because it includes drivers at the kernel level, and most other operating systems do not. (Salzman, 2005.) The Linux operating system has been developed by many intelligent people. Around two percent of the Linux kernel was actually written by Torvalds himself. Today, the Linux kernel has received contributions from thousands of developers across the globe. Torvalds remains the definitive authority on what new codes are incorporated into the Linux kernel. However, Linux distribution modifies the kernel according to each of their users ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Creation Stories And Cultural Characteristics Of The... There are many different types of stories, some fairy tales and some are origin myths. Within each story there are different things not seen by just reading the story and not thinking about the deeper meaning behind it. Such as in origin myths there are cultural characteristics. Cultural characteristics are the beliefs of a culture in which its society is based off of. These cultural characteristics can be seen as a blend of beliefs that tie the people to the land around them. This is very evident when looking at the creation stories of ingenious people. Each culture has different characteristics. For example the indigenous creation stories called The Earth on Turtle s Back , When Grizzlies Walked Upright , and the Navajo origin legend; all have characteristics of the Native American culture. Such as the Native American cultural characteristics that you should respect animals, nature, and elders. Those cultural characteristics are very evident throughout the first two stories. The third creation story has different cultural characteristics. The story The Earth on The Turtle s back has many cultural characteristics throughout the story. They are there, but they are hidden within story throughout the text. For example in the text the chief tells his wife that her dreams have power. After that the chief digs up the tree, and for the Onondaga, they believe that powerful dreams should come true. Another example of cultural characteristics throughout the text is the ... • 30. Biological Theories Of Criminal Behavior Biological Theories of Criminal Behavior Many biological theories of crime have been developed to explain the analysis of crime and criminality. Scientific studies of research have formed theories as to what makes a criminal a criminal and what social factors can contribute to criminality. As a result, criminology scientists Cesare Lombroso, William Sheldon, and Sandberg believe that the presence of certain physical traits made it more likely that an individual would become a criminal. The three scientist each share significant theories of criminal characteristics, criminal personality and criminal behavioral tendencies. Criminologist Cesare Lombroso studied scientifically the born criminal Atavism theory, which he believed modern criminals share physical characteristics with primitive humans, Sheldon studied the somatotype theory, the three body types relating to an individual personality and Franz Gall discovered and studied the phrenology theory, bumps on the head could indicate certain criminal tendencies. Each theorist philosophy of criminality conveys a scientific hypothesis as to what biosocial elements of crime establishes an individual as a criminal. In 1987, while conducting an autopsy of the brigand Villella, Lombroso experienced an unusual, but interesting epiphany while examining the skull of criminal Villella Giuseppe. Cesare Lombroso discovered an indention at the base of the skull that he perceived to be commonly shared only amongst apes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Blockbuster Competitive Advantage Blockbuster Entertainment Corporation was a popular movie rental store created Dallas, Texas in 1985 by a computer programmer named David Cook. Cook s experience allowed him to create a program to track Blockbuster s inventory and consumer preferences. This gave the business the competitive advantage of tracking customers movie preferences and customizing inventory per location. Two years later, Wayne Huizenga, founder of Waste Management, and two of his colleagues purchased interest in the company for 18 million dollars. He knew Blockbuster had huge potential because it was a one product business that appealed nation wide. Huizenga helped with the expansion of the company by selling the experience of customers walking into the store ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They had lost too many customers to Netflix and decided to drop their late fee in another attempt to gain their customers back. Despite the signs that Blockbuster needed to reevaluate their core competitive strengths, they still believed that people wanted to buy the experience of walking into a store and buying movies. But with e service on the rise, consumers were turning to cheaper, more convenient services. Blockbuster tried to compete with competitors in 2009 by launching movie kiosks and offered customers by mail and digital distribution channels, but Blockbuster was stuck in its ways with the local stores and company overhead. By the end of 2010, Blockbuster filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Profit should be established from customer values. A huge majority of Blockbuster s profit came from late fees. They had so much overhead costs to keep their building running that when they tried to compete with Netflix s no late fees , It actually costed them profit and they later had to reinstate the ... • 32. Prometheus And The Instinctive Man Prometheus, a tale over 2000 years old, is still as relevant in the modern era as it was all those years ago in Athens. Prometheus is seen throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, especially in pop culture, frequently as a martyr and hero, however there is a much more profound parallel that can be made about his timeless character. He represents the consequences of when one seeks knowledge, independency, and especially enlightenment. From his deviance to his torture, we see how prometheus and the modern man are alike. Prometheus gave humans fire, by doing so that meant that he no longer needed nor respected the gods and that humans would soon follow that example. Prometheus offered an escape from the patriarchal Zeus, who can be compared to the Judeo Christian God, and for doing so he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is chained to a rock in the Caucasus, where his liver is eaten daily by an eagle, all the while watching his own torment. Prometheus is what happens to man when he becomes the instinctive man, as we see quoted from Bertrand Russell s The Problems of Philosophy. The life of the instinctive man is shut up within the circle of his private interests...we remain like a garrison in a beleaguered fortress, knowing that the enemy prevents escape and that ultimate surrender is inevitable. In such a life there is no peace, but a constant strife between the insistence of desire and the powerlessness of will. In one way or another, if our life is to be great and free, we must escape this prison and this strife.(35 36) In his act of defiance, Prometheus becomes the instinctive man. • 33. Identification Of Unknown Amino Acid Identification of Unknown Amino Acid Measurements of Buffer Capacity Student #: 998493250 Authors: Young, Lee Melissa Abstract The titration curve of the unknown exhibited many characteristics, such as equivalence points, pKa of ionizable groups, isoelectric point, and buffer regions, that are particularly distinct to lysine. For unclear reasons, the pH during the titration did not reach the pH for pure 0.2 M NaOH nor 0.2 M HCl and normal equivalence points expected at two extreme ends of the titration curves for all amino acids were not observed. The titration of a phosphate buffer showed that the buffer capacity is directly proportional to the molarity of the buffer. However, our results showed that although the initial pH of the phosphate buffer was less than the pKa value, the measured buffer capacity was higher towards acid than base. The accuracy of the pH meter and calibration process was questioned under assumptions that the pH of the prepared phosphate buffer was actually above pKa. Introduction The hydrogen ion (H+) concentration is extremely important to living organisms. Even small changes in H+ ¬¬ion concentration can cause serious consequences to the structural and functional integrity of molecules. Consequently, it is important to regulate the pH within strict limits so that important biochemical processes of living systems can proceed normally. Buffers play a crucial role in maintaining a relatively constant pH in living organisms. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

George Washington was the political and military leader of the United States, while Simon Bolivar Was the political and military leader for parts of Latin America. They were both recognized as great leaders, and because of the impact they left, they now both have monuments, holidays, exhibits, currency, and many other things showing their significance. The main difference between the two is how and what they did to accomplish this bold movement. George Washington favored strategy more than the hero that saves the day.
