1. Transgender Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of transgender issues can be both challenging and rewarding. The
complexity of the subject requires a nuanced understanding of various aspects, including the
social, psychological, and legal dimensions of transgender experiences. Crafting an insightful
and well-researched essay necessitates thorough exploration of the historical context, cultural
influences, and ongoing debates surrounding transgender rights and identity.
One of the difficulties lies in navigating the diverse perspectives within the transgender
community itself. There are different narratives and experiences, and it's crucial to approach the
topic with sensitivity and respect. Additionally, keeping up with the evolving language and
terminology associated with gender identity requires constant attention to ensure the essay
remains inclusive and respectful.
Furthermore, addressing the broader societal context and the challenges faced by transgender
individuals requires a deep dive into the existing literature and ongoing developments in the
field. Analyzing the legal frameworks, healthcare disparities, and the impact of societal norms on
transgender lives adds another layer of complexity.
Despite these challenges, writing an essay on transgender issues provides an opportunity for
personal growth and increased awareness. It allows the writer to contribute to a meaningful
conversation, fostering understanding and empathy. To succeed, one must approach the topic
with an open mind, be willing to learn, and critically engage with diverse perspectives.
In conclusion, while the difficulty of writing on such a nuanced topic is undeniable, the potential
for personal and societal impact makes the effort worthwhile. It's a chance to contribute to a
broader dialogue about inclusivity and equality. For those who find this task overwhelming, it's
worth noting that assistance is available. Similar essays and much more can be ordered on

2. Essay On My Farm House
During some of my early farm boy life, I attended some wonderful churches in
Edmonton and Metcalfe County. The church nearest our farm home was the one
room Good Hope Baptist Church, which was located alongside the gravel surfaced
Knob Lick Road about three miles from Edmonton.
As a youngster, my attendance was usually limited to those infrequent and short
periods of time when the church had a pastor and during occasional revival services.
My Mom and I would walk together from our tenant farm to the church attend the
worship services as well as an occasional dinner on the grounds. Dad did go to the
church grounds on some occasions, but often remained outside the church with a few
other men during the church services. All of the men; ... Show more content on

He always remained seated in silence and looked straight ahead. I have often
wondered if he ever accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in later years.
Dinner on the grounds was an event usually held after morning church services. A
very l o n g table was set up in an L configuration. It was assembled with rough sawn
planks laid on a series of saw horses and covered with bed sheets used as tablecloths.
Each family brought one or more items of food, which varied from event to event,
but would always result in delicious meals consisting of some of the following:
cornbread, biscuits, fried chicken, ham, chicken and dumplings, several varieties of
beans, potatoes prepared in a variety of ways, cabbage, fried apples, radishes, corn,
tomatoes, cucumbers, slaw, onions, squash, chocolate, apple, butterscotch and
rhubarb pie, chocolate cake, caramel cake with hickory nuts on its icing, blackberry
cobbler, iced tea, coffee, lemonade, Kool Aid, watermelon, muskmelon, and other
goodies. Now you know why it was a l o n g table.
Another childhood experience with a church involved a Presbyterian pastor who
drove out into the country and picked up myself and other youngsters, then drove us
to his church in Edmonton. There we were joined with youngsters who lived in town
and we all participated in the church s youth events. Afterward, the pastor would
drive us back to our homes. Those were very enjoyable occasions, but
3. Thematic Analysis Of Bertha Flowers
Bertha Flowers is a short story about a woman who is of colour and helps a young
girl in school named Marguerite, who is of colour as well. Mrs. Bertha Flowers
helps Marguerite stand up for herself when she is feeling down about public
speaking because she is of colour. Marguerite is the one telling the story, the
narrator. The theme is this story is role models. Bertha Flowers is a very strong, very
powerful and a very traditional womanwho tries her hardest in everything. When
Bertha helps Marguerite, Marguerite is inspired by what Bertha is doing. She
inspired Marguerite to believe in herself ad believe that she can do whatever she
wants if she just tries. That inspired Marguerite to be a role model just like Bertha.
This story is very interesting because it is placed so long ago which means we get to

She never let it bother her, she never listened to what people say. She was always
herself and acted like she was as good as everyone else, unlike Marguerite.
Marguerite let the racism get to her, she was always really down and was the
complete opposite of Bertha. When Bertha talked to Marguerite, she changed her
whole perspective. Mrs. Flowers found out that Marguerite is not very good with
participating in school activities and talking in front of the class. She struggles.
Bertha thinks it is a good idea to talk to her and give her some advice to help her
speak loud and clear. She is basically her teacher for helping her get her confidence
back . Since Mrs. Bertha is so traditional, she gives Marguerite some very strict
rules which makes her put in full effort in these assignments. She decides to help
Marguerite because talking out loud in a group or in public is necessary in life.
You need to do it to succeed. Now, there are not many people of colour who speak
up and act like Ms. Bertha Flowers did. They are afraid of most things. Racism is
something that really gets to them, unlike Mrs.

2.1 What are NoSQL Databases
NoSQL databases are databases designed to run on clusters of computers/servers,
built for the ever increasing data storage needs for websites. Devised as a way of
scaling databases horizontally which is a challenge with traditional relational
databases. Scaling horizontally is the ability to add more computers/servers as
nodes to a database. These clusters work well with write heavy systems and allow
increase storage and processing power limited only by the number of connections
you can have on the network. Defined as No Schema, No SQL data structures mean
they are not limited to the original data structure. Objects and fields etc can be

5. New York City Similarities
In the north and south of the United States, there are many differences in culture. The
weather, the population, and the economy are a few. They both have the same
language but are spoken in two different accents. You can always tell the difference
between the two.
New York City is in the northern part of the United States and is considered the
city that never sleeps. It is also known as The Big Apple . People are walking the
streets, eating at restaurants and going to bars at all hours of the night. Tourist
come to see the attractions and to go shopping. There are many ways of
transportation: train, bus, cab, car, or walking. Public transportation is twenty four
hours a day and seven days a week and is their main source of getting around town.
Housing is mostly apartments or condos that are for rent. Most people do not own
their own homes or own a vehicle, because they cannot afford it. The cost of living
in New York Cityis more expensive than most popular cities. The rent for a one
bedroom apartment is around 3,000 an month. Childcare is close to 2,000 an
month. In order to maintain a comfortable lifestyle most New Yorkers make close
to 7,000 dollars a month. The population is 8,537,673 as of 2016 and as many as
800 languages spoken there. People often keep to themselves and really have no
time to get to know each other, because it is a fast pace environment. It has the
largest foreign born population in the world and 61 million tourists go there for
vacation. The

Mississippi State s rival Ole Miss is destined to receive harsh sanctions by the NCAA
soon, so we wondered? How do teams respond to their rival receiving NCAA
Sanctions? We go to Los Angeles to get our first example of this trend as in 2010 the
NCAA handed down harsh penalties to USC including a bowl ban for the 2010 and
2011 seasons, 30 scholarship losses over three years, and vacate all games Reggie
Bush had played in after December of 2004. This included the 2005 National

UCLA would go on to finish 10 3 in back to back seasons, which many would think
is an average to good season for UCLA. However, Los Angeles had been dominated
by the Trojans and their record from 1990 2009 is a clear example of that. USC
played in 13 bowl games in 19 years not counting the two games that were vacated.
USC would also win eight conference championships in this span of 19 years, also
not counting the one they would vacate in 2005. USC would also go on to win one
national championship during that span but would have to vacate another from
their 2004 season. UCLA, on the other hand, didn t experience the same level of
success. The traditional basketball powerhouse went to the same number of bowls
before the sanctions were handed down however they didn t receive much
notoriety for their achievements as they only amassed three conference
championships, which all of them occurred from 1990 1995. The Bruins would
also not win a national championship like their inner city rival did. We take a look
at life after the sanctions and this where the difference can truly be seen as UCLA
would appear in two conference championships as well as appear in 5 bowl games
from 2010 2016. The Bruins also pitched two 10 3 seasons. However, the Trojans
rebounded rather quickly from their sanctions as they appeared in five bowl games,
but would have been bowl eligible in every season during their sanctions,

Cameron, C. M. (2002). American samurai: myth, and imagination in the conduct

University Press. The samurai were a warrior class in feudal Japan who served the
lords of clans in Japanese feudal society. They were highly respected elite warriors
in both grand military strategy and individual martial arts. The warrior code that
they embodied and the myth of the samurai warrior are still alive in modern Japan
today. In his book American Samurai: Myth and Imagination in the Conduct of Battle

This disassociation allows for the whole sale slaughter of people with moral
justification. The unforeseen byproduct of this disassociation, as Cameron points
out, can be seen in the 1950 s and 1960 s, when many veterans consigned their
wives to the kitchen. The intended product of this disassociation, however, was to
kill Japanese soldiers. The Marines would reap the benefits of this first in the
Guadalcanal campaign of 1942. With the U.S. Marines of First Division engaged in
a life or death struggle against their Japanese opponents, the cartoonish portraits of
four eyed, slow Japanese soldiers burned into the American Marine s mind kept
them from thinking about the enemy as men who are carrying pictures of their
families eerily similar to the pictures that were carried by Americans. Using the
invasion of Peleliu as a backdrop for his analysis, Cameron expands upon his
analysis of the individual Marine to the collective thought of the organization. The
U.S. Marine self image caused Marine units on Peleliu to charge head first into the
waiting Japanese defense with foolhardy, head on assaults which they stubbornly
pressed. The Marine Corps, even through their hyper masculine indoctrination, had
not prepared their Marines any better than their U.S. Army counterparts on the
island. Before Peleliu, the perception of combat had been that of a clean affair due
to the romanticized images of World War I. After, due to Tom Lea s reporting of
events, the

Spring 2017 In the photo, we see two coffee cups, one that is in an insulated
thermos with a lid, and one that is a regular mug open to the air, on a college student
s desk at home during their finals studying. It is well known that as coffee sits in any
container, it cools down towards room temperature, making it less tasty to drink once
it gets lukewarm or even room temperature. However, if it is too hot, it can burn the
drinkers tongue and throat, which is incredibly painful, speaking from experience.
The rate at which coffee cools may not seem like a science, but in fact, this plays into

Often, energy is lost to the surroundings, and not directly transferred from one object
to the other. However, a perfect thermos would prevent any heatfrom leaking out or
in. Energy in the form of heat can flow between materials inside the thermos to the
extent that they have different temperatures; for example, between ice cubes and
warm coffee. The transfer of energy continues until a common temperature is
reached at thermal equilibrium (Cutnell 2014). Thermal equilibrium occurs when
there is no heat flow between two materials, making them essentially the same
temperature. This is why the coffee continues to cool down the longer it is
exposed to the air, because heat exchange is occurring, and the liquid is cooling
down from its original warmth to be more like the room that is it in, as the room
has less heat. This is why a thermos causes the coffee to cool down slower, because
the thermos provides insulation against the exchange of heat from the outside. The
extra insulating layer is actually a vacuum, or absence of air, formed during the
construction of the thermos. The best insulator possible is a vacuum, because there
s no air. If there s no air to transfer heat, then the heat is retained where it is

The goal of this study is to collect, analyze, and interpret my variable expenses to
increase my monthly savings. I will expose key variables, unnecessary expenditures,
and develop a plan to manage those spending habits. The escalation of my variable
costs has prevented me to increase my savings account, which has directly prohibited
my efforts to make extra payments toward my investment property.
Business Impact:
The average cost of variable expenses each month are currently $1,391.57 or an
average weekly cost of $347.89. A portion of these valuable dollars could
potentially be shifted into my savings account each month to put toward paying
off my investment property. To bring it into perspective, if I can reduce my total
estimated variable expenses to $222.65 each week or by 36%, I would be able to
take the sum of my 36% reduction or $125.24 and apply that to my savings account

world in which humans can no longer procreate, Theo Faron a former activist, agrees
to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman, Named Kee, to a sanctuary located
out at sea, where her child s birth could help scientists save mankind. In the film
Children of Men, there are many crucial scenes to help convey the idea of the film,
however I find one of these scenes particularly important; namely the apartment scene.

The images and lighting are similar to images that record the suffering of people
during the depression of the 1930s. However, inside the park the weather starts to
brighten making everything look lush and vibrant. It seems absurd to see such a
strong contrast after passing through the imperial gates. This brings to mind the
saying The grass is always greener on the other side This helps to show how the
members of the public see this part of London as a desired thing and that
everything is better, but this saying usually ends up being false; these people still
live in the same world, it is all an illusion, Further on in the scene Theo says to his
cousin Nigel, A hundred years from now, there won t be one single sad f**k to look
at any of this (meaning his apartment). What keeps you going? To which Nigel
replies You know what it is, Theo? I just don t think about it . He is just ignoring the

Mise en scene creates a shocking impact as the viewer draws on their prior
knowledge to make connections to the symbols revealed in this sequence. As Theo
crosses the bridge to the Ark of Arts, above the Battersea power station, you can see
a floating pig, reminiscent of Pink Floyd s album cover for Animals . As Theo
enters the court in the background, you can see a painting of two policemen kissing
which is quite a famous piece by the street artist Banksy. After Theo enters the

In Michael Gondry s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), the connections
between people and memories become the focal point of a very unique romance.
Through the use of new technology, the possibility of erasing memories makes
painful relationships disappear like they never happened. The tale of Joel and
Clementine allows the audience to rethink and question the process they undergo as
beneficial or destructive. Though the process might be helpful in eliminating the pain
caused from another person, four key scenes show how the lessons learned through
relationship experiences are important. At the start of the film, Joel Barish (Jim
Carey) finds himself waking up in the morning from what appears to have been a

Though Joel is very nervous and unsure about walking out onto the frozen river,
Clementine runs and slides past him. After falling and getting up, she then
pressures Joel to step out of his comfort zone and to walk out onto the ice. At this
point, the outing becomes more than just a part of a romantic date, but also a new
experience for Joel. While Joel is normally quiet and to himself about everything,
this outing made him get out of his comfort zone and do something he otherwise
wouldn t even think to do. With this being a new experience for him to loosen up
and have some fun, such a lesson could provide him a change of pace from the dull
and boring routine of his normal life. Another scene in the movie is the fight
between Clementine and Joel. Joel is sitting at home worried late one night when
Clementine shows up at three in the morning tipsy. She tells Joel that she wrecked
his car, which upsets Joel. He begins letting his emotions get the best of him and
fires off by telling her how she was being irresponsible and could have seriously
injured someone. Responding to the criticism, Clementine tells Joel he sounds like
an old lady. The small argument grows larger as the two begin throwing low blows
targeting each other s insecurities. At this point, Clementine quickly grabs her things
and leaves. Having a dispute with someone is a part of life. Being in a relationship

12. Summary Of Sir Thomas Mallory s Le Morte DArthur
Sir Thomas Mallory s Le Morte d Arthur is a classic piece of literate that reveals the
depths of mankind in numerous ways. Man is a complicated creature, greatly
influenced by a variety of circumstances and often the choices made in those times
mold man into who he or she will become. The lens for which one views beauty and
goodness can be greatly affected by these experiences. As I have spent time reflecting
on Mallory s writing, it is apparent that he used several key themes to explain his
views of man; those being identity, fate, love, family, and redemption. These themes
parallel much of scripture and when paid attention to, can help one understand the
truths of Scripture on their Christian journey.
A person s identity is vital in the universe of Le Morte d Arthur. Each character is
defined not only by his familial associations, but also by his experiences, whether
on the battleground, as a lover, or as a leader. A person is as well defined by his ties
to his country or liege. Knights are defined with epithets concerning their abilities or
loyalties, at times given through fate or through accomplishments. A lot of people
struggle with identities given to them by fate or circumstance. For example, when
Arthur was young, he thought of himself as the adopted son of a landowner as well
as a knight, not as the heir to all of England. After Arthur learns he is the son of Uther
Pendragon as well as Igraine, he has a tough time accepting his identity, even though

14. How Does Ice Affect Ice Cream
Title: How is the time it takes ice cream to freeze affected when the amount of
Sodium Chloride(salt) added to the ice used to freeze the ice cream is changed?
Purpose
The purpose of the experiment is to see how the freezing process of ice cream is
affected when different amounts of Sodium Chloride are added on the ice that is used
to freeze it.
Background Information
The three most common states of matter are solid, liquid and gas. When a person
has made ice cream, the ingredients go from a liquid to a solid state which is called
freezing. In the liquid state, the substance s molecules are the most loosely packed of
the three states of matter and have no definite volume. Because of this, they will
usually take the shape of whatever container they are put into. The solid state
however is the complete opposite. In this state, the molecules are tightly packed and
are unable to move around freely. (Classifications of Matter) ... Show more content on

In order to freeze the ice cream must reach a little below the freezing point of ice,
which is 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celsius. The words freezing point just
means the temperature where a liquid transition into a solid. That s where salt come
into play. Salt does something called freezing point deprivation. Freezing point
deprivation is when the freezing point of a solvent is lowered when a solute is
added to it. In this case salt is being added to ice. A common example of freezing
point deprivation in real life would be when salt is added to the roads right before it
snows. Assuming the temperature is around 32 degrees Fahrenheit, the salt lowers
the freezing point of the snow by a few degrees and as a result, the snow melts when
it hits the

What type of homicide is featured in this case? (Note: Be as specific as possible)
The type of homicide featured in this case is known as intimate homicide. The
reason for this is because the victim and offender were in a relationship which
involved living together and the victim and offender were engaged to be married.
What had happened here is I believe it was a build up of rage from the offender
over a period due to the domestic violence he had influenced upon the victim. The
offender was later charged for the death of the victim and was sentenced to 26
years with no parole for 18 years (R v Gittany [2013] NSWSC 1503 (14 October

was thrown to her death causing a homicide. As known domestic violence can lead
to an intimate homicide as quoted by the domestic violence statistics In 2 out of 3

How hard a thing is life to the lowly, and get how human and real! W.E.B. Du Bois.
Ghana Calls is a Poem written by William Edward Burghardt Du Bois. He is also
formally known as W.E.B. Du Bois. He has been referred to as the father of the
civil rights movement and as a historian, a sociologist, a scholar, a teacher, a
novelist, and a journalist (Hufford D 1997). This poem was dedicated to Kwame
Nkrumah. Kwame Nkrumah was the Ghanaian leader who declared Ghana
independence from Great Britain (UK). Many of W.E.B. Du Bois literary work
was devoted to issues associated with the people of African descent from America
and Africa as well. In the poem Mr W.E.B. Du Bois wrote on how it felt growing

the dream gave details of the soul of one Ghanaian and the issues of the place they

In recent years CEDIA has added project management courses to their portfolio,
which immediately outlines a problem statement: How is the implementation of such
projects managed, are there any formal project management methodologies being
used and if so, are these complex projects successful?
This research will be of value for the home automation industry as it will appraise the
need of using formal project management practices in complex home automation
projects and it will constitute a good knowledge base of project management,
increasing the chances of project success in a growing industry.
Relevant theory of project management and home automation projects will be
analysed. Additionally, the topic of construction project management will be studied
to gain an understanding of the stages of a construction project and how they are
relevant in a home automation project. The research question and the objectives
driving this proposal will be outlined followed by the philosophy, methodology and
instruments to be used for data collection and analysis. Finally, a timescale for the
different activities involved in this research will be given.

2.1Overview
19. A narrative literature review will be conducted based on the following main bodies of
knowledge: project management and project success and complex home automation
projects. The proposed research aims to
20. Lord Of The Flies Conch Shell Symbolism
The shell was interesting and pretty and a worthy plaything; but the vivid phantoms
of his day dream still interposed between him and Piggy, who in this context was an
irrelevance (Golding 16). The conch shell was a very important symbol in the novel
Lord of the Flies because it shows how society influences the boys based on the quote
stated. The conchremains the same throughout most of the story for the most part. It
could symbolize many different things which are power, unity, and respect. All of
three of these words are similar in a way which proves that the conch shells
symbolizes each one of the words.
One of the things that the conch shell could symbolize is power on the island
because Ralph is the chief and he said that you could only speak if you were
holding the conch. He held the conch against his chest with one hand and stabbed
the air with his index finger (Golding 127). Piggy is the one who finds the conch
shell and Ralph uses it to call for the other boys on the island. This shows that the
boys are influenced by society because they know that they need a leader based on
their knowledge of where and how they were used to living at home. They also
know that a leader is important if you want things to get done on time and the proper
way. The conch shell helps us, the reader to know that Ralph is in authority. The
boys are not in society anymore, so they are trying to figure things out for
themselves, but they are also trying to do things the way they would
21. Marquis De Condorcet
The belief that societal progress is necessary to remedy public ills has maintained its
popularity over the course of many years, but different thinkers have taken various
approaches as to the best means for this development. The Enlightenment thinker the
Marquis de Condorcet and former Soviet Union ruler Vladimir Lenin were two men
of drastically different backgrounds who possessed dissimilar views about the nature
of social evolution. Whereas Condorcet remains optimistic about the capability of
democratic progress throughout his work The Progress of the Human Mind, Lenin
insists in his State and Revolution that only socialistic evolution will be able to aid
society, which ultimately suggests that social development is not limited to one path
but rather is shaped by the desires of the people.... Show more content on

This optimistic view of indefinite improvement helps to establish his firm belief that
achieving this particular political system is the best goal for society. Condorcet has
faith in the idea of the human race, emancipated from its chains proceeding forth
with all his efforts to assist the progress of reason and the establishment of liberty
(Condorcet 460). A key component of democracy is the notion that people should
have the liberty to participate in their government and embrace their human rights, so
by striving to establish liberty and reason, mankind is therefore spreading democracy.
Although this system will take time to develop, Condorcet is just as optimistic about
the certainty of progress as he is about democracy s role in the
22. Examples Of Satire In The Devil And Tom Walker
Tom Walker was an innocent man with a deceitful heart, which led him to being a
Satanist (follower of Satan). The Devil and Tom Walker, written by Washington
Irving, was a short story that exhibited many themes. A satire is a device used to
mock people, customs, or institutions meant to improve the society. The author
satirizes people who sells their soul in exchange for money. Throughout the satire,
Tom Walker displays many themes such as greed, values, religion, temptation,
manipulation, and bargaining. Although Tom Walker and his wife lived in misery
that was so severe, they considered cheating on each other in their marriage. They
lived in a forn looking house and owned a miserable horse, whose ribs were as
articulate as the bars of a gridiron (Irving 314). Tom Walker and whoever lived in
the house had a bad name that they were known for; it was because of their... Show

He was supposed to extort bonds, foreclose mortgages, and drive merchants to
bankruptcy and with a handshake he made a bargain with the devil. Everyone
driven to raise money by desperate means and desperate sacrifices hurried to Tom
Walker (Irving 321). He took advantage of receiving bonds and mortgages by
leaving his customers without much or no money leaving the door. After
collecting enough money, he saved and spent it on himself. As he was becoming
an older man, he regretted his bargain that cheated the black man (the devil). He
realized that he manipulated his customers by taking most or all of their money at
four percent a month. All of a sudden, he became a violent churchgoer in which he
prayed noisily (Irving 322). Knowing that the devil would soon get his revenge, he
kept a bible at his desk and in his pocket at his hip. He thought he could use the
bible to fight off the devil. He was not only led by temptation, he was temptation, a

23. Relishing the Ambrosia of Hope in Stephen CraneВґs
Bowery...
At the bed of the deepest ocean, exist a distinguished sect of people. They live with
no warmth or light, in the darkest, most nefarious pit of the world. They eternally
drown. An occult force leisurely sips their souls, relishing every drop. It savors the
thin and sweet nectar of innocence as it fluidly streams down its throat, appeasing its
taste buds but never quenching the crave for more. This mystic being extracts the
cherubic innocence of a child s laughter before it even has the chance to dance upon
their lips. However, it lives within the souls of the children; it is engraved in their
bones, an intrinsic quality passed from generation to generation. It works from the
inside to turn every person against one another, to make them... Show more content

Without building the base for the building, which would be their child s ethical
outlook, parents try to make a skyscraper. They threaten children with stories and
gibe about the devil and hell, but they do not realize that their children have no
perception of the opposite side, God and purity. They cannot appreciate the darkness
of the devil without understanding the beauty of God and religion. In the Bowery,
inhabitants possess a warped sense of religion that fails to offer truth and
sanctuary. Instead, religion is just a word for these people; they throw it around
without understanding what it is and why it exists. The victims of the Bowery have
no pure sense of untainted religion. They do not see that God teaches humans to
practice ethic and to love others; without this fundamental comprehension, it is
impossible for them actually to apply these ideologies in their lives. Still, they
attempt to incorporate religion into their lives because they see the more affluent
people doing so. In trying to affiliate religion with the filthy and obscene Bowery,
they corrupt the core purpose of it. They do not see that it is impossible to tie such
a white and pure idea to a place so iniquitous and scarred. When they try to tie this
knot, they unveil the hypocrisy in their actions and words. Crane instills these
qualities of hypocrisy in Jimmie and Mary in order to show the Bowery s naivety
towards genuine morality

overall food and beverage industry. Dippin Dots founder Curt Jones hit one plateau
in the late 1990s and developed a franchising system to try to reach the next level.
By the end of 2000, franchise agreements were providing a cash flow, and Dippin
Dots Franchising, Inc. was on its way to reaching the number 4 ranking in
Entrepreneur magazine s 2004 list of Top 50 New Franchise Companies. Growing
at a rate of 10 15% annually, by 2004 Dippin Dots was now also available in 800
western region McDonald s stores. Targeting their core demographic of 8 18 year
olds, in 2002 Dippin Dots started running print ads in Seventeen and Nickelodeon
magazines, getting product placements in TV and movie scenes, and soliciting
endorsements from MTV and sports celebrities. The influx of funds from
franchisee fees had provided cash to greatly enhance marketing. Recently, Dippin
Dots has begun to face increased competition in the out of home ice cream market
from Nestle and Uniliver, and from knock offs like Frosty Bites and others. While
franchise growth may create increased brand recognition and put the company on the

to teach new tasks through a variety of methods such as by shaping the new desired

methods that are used each have their benefits depending on what a person is

In this way the researcher is still providing rewards to the rat as the responses get
the rat closer to pressing the button and the rat learns that it is not always getting a
reward if it does not do what it needs to do.
One trial learning
One trial learning is a theory much like the name sounds, learning that takes place in
one pairing of a response and a stimulus but is not strengthened over time by
repeated exposure to a stimulus ( One Trial Learning , 2014). This theory was
developed by American psychology Edwin Guthrie that believed individuals
learned from cues which tell a person to do a behavior rather than from being
conditioned through rewards that followed the behaviors. Many conditioned
responses occur as a result of the one trial learning such as taste aversion to certain
foods. The response happens through a single pairing of the stimulus and response
with no need for repetition. Taking the rat pressing the button Guthrie would believe
that rat would learn through cues that told the rat to press the button and no reward
would be given to the rat in order to get the rat to press the button. In the case of the
rat, the rat may be shown about pressing the button and then would be expected to be
able to do the behavior, thus learning from the single showing or one trial.

26. Analysis Of Michael Ondaatje s The Skin Of A Lion
In Michael Ondaatje s In the Skin of a Lion, the play of light and shadow are
reoccurring motifs that identify and relate to the general themes of remembering and
forgetting. H. Porter Abbott has defined motif as a discrete thing, image, or phrase
that is repeated in a narrative , where in contrast, a theme is a more
generalized...concept that is suggested by... motifs (237). Abbott emphasizes that
Themes are implicit in motifs, but not the other way around (95). In In the Skin of a
Lion, Ondaatje emphasizes the class struggles endured by the immigrant workers and
the internal struggles faced by the central characters. The motifof chiaroscuro, the
play of lightand shadow, reflects how the characters try to forget their past and
personal burdens, and strive to recall joyful memories, which aides them in
embracing new beginnings and creating new memories. I will argue that the motif of
light relates to the theme of remembering and the motif of shadow identifies with the
theme of forgetting. I will show these relationships by analyzing the imagery and
context of four central scenes in which light and shadow play a significant role.
Firstly, I will discuss the event of the nun falling off the unfinished bridge.
Secondly, I will consider the candle light vigil held for the deceased bridge works.
Thirdly, I will discuss the working conditions of the tunnel workers in the section

Capitalization
We live in the era of Globalization, which refers to the international integration of
goods, services, people, and money with the purpose of making an area more
profitable or productive, or useful. This term sounds good for everybody. If we
exchange all these components, the living of the global citizens raises, but this is
not all true. In fact, this exchange originates more macrolevel issues globally, and
with these problems, also microlevel issues. I m not saying it has not been an
effective way all these past years to benefit the population with a more worldwide
opportunity to success, but has it been addressed correctly? Let s take a look to some
of the problems that overrun our world.
Many nations go blind with the idea of producing more profitable people for their
countries economic growth to the point that they strength up iceberg issues in
society, problems that only their top are known but their bottom are unacknowledged.
When we explore these issues deeper we find that there is an inequality in human
rights. One of the main rights that is not given in a same quality to everybody is
education. For instance, students from wealthy families get the chance to go to good
schools and universities, while students living in poverty have minimum chances to
go to good schools or they don t even get the opportunity to attend college, as it has
been proven to us in the podcast Carlos doesn t remember , when Carlos is given the

28. How Did Alexander II Kill The Tsar
Explain why Tsar Alexander II was assassinated in 1881 (12 marks)
Tsar Alexander II was assassinated for a number of reasons. Tsar Alexander II was
the ruler of Russia since 1855 to 1881. He was killed in the streets of St. Petersburg
by a bomb thrown by a member of the People s Will group. The People s Will was
formed in 1879. They used methods such as terrorism and assassination in their
attempt to overthrow Russia s Tsarist autocracy. They murdered officials and made
several attempts on the Tsar s life before finally assassinating him on March 13
1881. Alexander II did much to liberalize and modernize Russia this included the
abolishment of serfdom in 1861. However his authority was challenged by groups
such as the People s Will party, the populist and the intelligentsia. He used repressive
actions and he passionately opposed movements for political reform. ... Show more

At court, reactionary ministers hinted that the tsars reforming instincts had gone too

which were undermining it, both the dangerous and uncontrollable western ideas
which were spreading through the liberal universities and being discussed in the

Pawan Kumar Thakur Background and objectives: Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is
an increasingly recognized complication of liver cirrhosis. It is associated with
worsening liver function, ascites and the occurrence of gastroesophageal variceal
bleeding. The aim of this work was to clarify the risk factors, clinical presentation
and complications of portal vein thrombosis in Egyptian patients with liver
cirrhosis and to study the outcome with and without treatment after 6 months
follow up period. Methods: Hospitalized cirrhotic patients (N = 80) were
segregated into the PVT and non PVT groups. PVT was detected by Doppler
ultrasonography; each group was divided in two sub groups (A and B) according to
presence or absence of HCC respectively. The 2 groups were compared as regards
risk factors, clinical presentation and complications. The outcome of treatment with
anticoagulation in 6 patients was evaluated. Result: PVT developed as result of
combination of both local and systemic risk factors. HCC, abdominal infection
especially spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and abdominal intervention were the most
important local risk factors. Abnormalities of coagulation system were among
systemic risk factors. Most of cases were asymptomatic and accidentally discovered,
others presented

BHP Billiton describes itself as the world s largest mining company having 38,000
employees working in more than 100 operations in approximately 25 countries. In
fact, the company does not concentrate on diamond production but also on iron, coal,
petroleum, bauxite, aluminium, manganese and copper amongst other materials.
BHP Billiton was formed in 2001 through a merger of the Australian Broken Hill
Proprietary Company (BHP) and the British Billiton that had extensive operations in
South Africa.
The Australian BHP operates 60 % of the business and the British Billton the other
40%. Even though the companies operate as one business with one board of
directors and a single management structure, they are listed separately on the stock

32. My Desire For The Veterinary Profession
A Veterinarian is not only an activist of animal welfare; he or she is also a teacher,
a role model, and an active member of the wider community. So that I might realize
these responsibilities to the fullest extent, I have engaged in a variety of
professional, academic, service, and personal disciplines throughout my student
career. I believe my continuing development as both an individual and aspiring
professional will allow me to share these experiences and contribute to the diversity
of my Veterinary class. My enthusiasm for the veterinary profession has only
cultivated since my childhood by a deep fascination with animals and their health.
From this foundation I developed an enduring sense of responsibility and pride in
providing care for all creatures, even as my perspectives and aspirations matured. For
instance, my understanding of the community role of veterinarians expanded rapidly
when I began shadowing various small and large animal vets three years ago. I
participated first hand in treating and dressing wounds, dentistry, sheath cleaning,
preparing vaccines, administering medication, surgical preparation, post operation
care, taking vital statistics, collecting samples, and monitoring vital signs of
anesthetized patients. I also eagerly took part in a summer internship two years ago
at the Greyhound Placement Clinic in Augusta where I discovered that I was in my
element working side by side with a veterinarian. Ever since these past several years I

Clinical question
Is oral health related quality of life better in population wearing removable partial
dentures compared to population not wearing removable partial dentures?
Background
Losing teeth can be due to various factors such as caries, periodontal disease,
trauma and oral cancer. It may result in masticatory difficulties affecting the quality
of life of an individual. The treatment options for these missing teeth can be
implant, fixed prosthesis or conventional removable prosthesis. Removable
prosthesis is still being used currently due to its quick and affordability. Oral health
related quality of life (OHRQoL) should be emphasized when providing dental care
to elderly people; as it plays a major role in well being of an individual.1In current
days, the average life span of an individual is increasing. So the population of
individuals with removable dentures is also increasing.
The paper mainly focuses on how the oral health quality is affecting elderly
individuals. In elderly individuals, the quality of life associated with oral health
influences the social and emotional aspects of life. In addition, they also influence the
dental health such as masticatory ability. The factors influencing the Oral healthy
related quality of life include denture status, denture satisfaction, perceived loose
denture, the presence of oral pain, the presence of oral ulcer, perceived halitosis and
perceived dry mouth.3
34. Savage Reservation In Brave New World
Both Brave New World and The Dispossessed have different takes on utopia, a
place or state of ideal perfection and excellence. However, the savage reservation
in Brave New World has a lack of government, which allows for the people there to
freely decide how they would wish to live, unlike the World State or Anarres in The
Dispossessed. The World State and Anarres have controlling governments that
monitors all ideas to decide if they are considered dangerous to the society and
regulates the opinions of the people. The savage reservation in Aldous Huxleys Brave
New Worldis more utopian than both the modern World State and Ursula Le Guin s

People at the savage reservation are less controlled because their culture and society
is less structured due to its small size. The general leader has less to worry about
when leading a small group rather than a large population in terms of riots, wars, and
revolutions, therefore major control is unnecessary. In the World State however, the
population is immense because of their method of creating babies in test tubes. To
sustain peace, happiness, and the feeling of utopia, the government uses its control to
give everyone in the same class the same opinion. This is done through
conditioning, which includes forcing babies to associate electric shocks to certain
items and hypnopædia. In the beginning of the book, the Director says The child s
mind is these suggestions, and the sum of the suggestions is the child s mind... but
all these suggestions are our suggestions! (Huxley 29) when describing why
hypnopædia is used on the children as they grow up. This quote shows how the
government s opinions are forced into the entire population s head as they grow up
and that they are proud to be controlling their minds. This method may prevent
wars over different beliefs and make everyone satisfied that they are in their
assigned social class, but it also takes away individuality and freedom. Anarres is
also heavily populated, so the Odonians are taught to believe that the people on
Urras are corrupt and evil to keep them from wanting to leave Anarres or make
contact with Urras. The extent of this belief is seen when Shevek explains why he
might not return from Urras by stating, Anybody outside Defense could make
explosives with blasting powder and blow up the ship on the ground. Or, more
likely, attack me once I was outside the ship. (Le Guin 378). The people of Anarres
think that Urras is so malicious that a fellow Odonian would not be
35. Salem Witch Trials
The Salem Witch Trials of 1692 were a series of trials in which twenty four people
were killed after being accused of practicing witchcraft. These trials were caused
by different social climates of the area including the very strong lack of a
governor, the split between Salem Village and Salem Town, and the strict puritan
lifestyle during the time period. Tituba, the black slave, was a foreigner from
Barbados. Her role in society was to take care of Mr. Parris s family. Tituba s
situation contributed to her role in the witch trials because Mr. Parris promised her
freedom if she confessed guilty. Tituba also realized that with her false confession
of being a witch also helped keep her life, therefore she accused other people in the

1). Girls, more so than boys, had very few ways of expressing themselves and little
was available for them. These statements help in proving the validity of puritan
lifestyles contributing to the social climate because without these ground morals, the
people would not have thought such normal activities meant someone was a witch.
Tituba s role in society was to be a slave to the family of Rev. Parris. Tituba was a
foreigner to Salem, as Parris had bought her in Barbados. Slaves had no rights at all
in this time period therefore; Tituba s only job was to care for Parris s children and
house. This situation presented to Tituba contributed to her role in the witch trials
because, being a slave didn t get her much respect in society, therefore people
wouldn t object to her being a witch because she is not much of a respectable person
to defend. For example, while Tituba would be caring for Parris s children, In the
evenings Tituba entertained little Betty and her cousin Abigail Williams by the
kitchen fire. She played fortune telling games and told them stories of magic and
spirits from the Caribbean (Tituba, par. 4). This proves that Tituba s role in society
affected her role in the witch trials because these trials were based on how others
saw you in society. If someone of high social status were to be accused of witchcraft,
people would protest. However, if someone of low social status were to be accused, it
wouldn t mean much to the common

Nathaniel Hawthorne was born in Salem, Massachusetts. His ancestors include John
Hathorne who was a judge at the Salem Witch Trials. Nathaniel Hawthorne added

background of the Puritan society was never hidden, especially within his narrative,
The Scarlet Letter. In the Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne tries to recreate a version of
history to provide a context for his narrative. He tells a story of a young woman who

that Hawthorne did an accurate job of reshaping the Puritan society. With the overall

He is either to run away and leave behind his lies or confess to the colony about his

chose to confess about the life he has hidden for seven years. He brings up Hester
and Pearl and tells society, People of New England! ... ye, that have loved me! ye,
that have deemed me holy! behold me here, the one sinner of the world! At last! at
last! I stand upon the spot where, seven years since, I should have stood, here, with
this woman, whose arm, more than the little strength wherewith I have crept

Wherever her walk hath been wherever, so miserably burdened, she may have
hoped to find repose it hath cast a lurid gleam of awe and horrible repugnance

and infamy ye have not shuddered! (pg 174 175) This portrays the Puritan society
because before telling society his secret, Hester and Dimmesdale planned to run
away and create a new life together with Pearl as a family. This would lead to a life
full of sin. But Dimmesdale is a true Puritan. He wants to remain true to himself and
that means being honest with not only himself, but also being honest to society
because as a Puritan, they are all one. So

the banks use to make transactions for any deposits, withdrawals, payments, cashiers
checks, or money orders. For example, anytime there are transactions being recorded
in the computer, it will appear in the journal and will be printed for the end of the shift

The personnel information system provides useful information to carry out any

38. Cultural Difference Argument Is Not A Sound One
In this paper I will discuss Cultural Relativism and argue that the cultural difference
argument is not a sound one, because its premise does not prove or disprove its
conclusion. Further, I will use this to prove that morals can be objectively true and do
not have to change on a culture to culture basis. Cultural Relativismtheorizes the
nature of moralityand whether moral truths are correct even if they are not agreed on
across all cultures. The outline of the Cultural Differences Argument is that we argue
from facts about the differences between cultural outlooks and then we conclude
something about the status of morality from this argument . Overall each of these
moral arguments is built upon one fundamental outline which claims that (1)
Different cultures... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This argument claims that we are not allowed to condemn another culture just
because it is different from our own. While it is an interesting idea to be tolerant
and accepting of all choices from other cultures, it is just not plausible. It is an
acceptance which leads to no growth in society and results in the inability to also
criticize the negative aspects of a society. For example, if we agreed that each
culture has the right to believe and do as they please without outside interference,
then we would not be able to criticize slavery or anti semitism because they are just
the thoughts of that culture. If we were unable to criticize these fundamentally wrong
ideas then there would be no growth in culture since we would be unable to

Prompt #3 Scene analysis
I chose to analyze The Dark Knight (2008) directed by Christopher Nolan. My scene
begins at 00:01:13 and ends at 00:05:54. I chose to analyze this scene because it
contains interesting points that I have recognized, as the villain shows different
characteristics, using aspects such as camera angles. In this analysis, I will be looking
at the setting, lighting, sound and the use of the camera and how each of these views
influences the audience.
The setting within this sequence takes place downtown Gotham city in a building,
from ziplining, on the street, to the van, outside of the building, and last inside of the
bank. The scene starts, the camera zooms up onto a building. The window is then
broken and the camera switches showing a masked man shooting a zip line across
from the building to another building. The clowned mask is being used to hide their
faces which is iconic and is an example you would expect to see in a heist film. The
sound in the back ground is a fast hard tempo beat which gives the audience the
impression that this is a heist film. The next shot shows a man standing at the corner
of the street holding a clown mask in his hand and a bag. The camera slowly zooms
up to the mask leading the audience to believe that they may see the identity of the
person holding it. This man is unlike the others characters he is not wearing his mask
and this builds pressure, but this up tempo
40. Strictly Ballroom Essay- Belonging
English essay:
People have the longing to belong and to be accepted by a group or community. A
sense of Belonging can emerge from the connections and acceptance we have with
other people, communities and the larger world. These ideas of belonging are
represented in texts which explore aspects of belonging and an individual s potential
to challenge or improve a community group. The film Strictly Ballroom, directed by
Baz Lurhman, the film Looking for Alibrandi directed by Kate Woods and the
exaggerated true story of an African American youth s fight to belong in the song
dance with the devil by immortal technique all represent ideas of belonging formed
by life experiences.

Self belief is shown through the realistic dancing of the Spanish community and
Fran s family compared to the exaggerated and unreal images of the ballroom
community, dominated by flashy costumes and insincerity. At the Toledo Milk Bar
the earthy and sensual colours of reds and browns allows us to feel the real spirit
of dancing. When Rico, Fran s father challenges Scott to dance the Paso doble, Scott
is laughed at by the way he dances. What is so funny about the way I dance? Fran s
Family and the Spanish community soon teach Scott that the real value of dancing
comes from the heart and Fran s grandmother shows him where he needs to really
feel the rhythm in his body.
When Scott is still contemplating who to dance with at the Pan Pacific s he is
approached by his father, Scott can I bend your ear for a tick? who tells him the
true story of his past, and how much regret he has in never dancing his own steps.
This makes Scott finally step up, and as the Pan Pacific competition starts Scott
dressed as a bullfighter and Fran dressed in her red and black paso doble dress
come on the stage. Barry Fife enraged by this couple dancing stops the music and
demands them to leave the stage. However, in the crowd, Doug for the first time in
his life stands up for something he believes in, he starts clapping the rhythm for
Scott and Fran to dance to. A real dancer must only listen to the rhythm and not... be

42. The Purloined Letter Essay
Question: What is the function of genre? Would you classify the Purloined Letter a
detective fiction or mystery?
To categorise texts, allows us to view the world from another perspective, and make
sense of the world. This is the function of genre. This allows the responder to class
texts even further into sub genres, which have conventions they follow to. Such as
Edgar Allen Poe s The Purloined Letter can be classified into the genre of crime, yet
can also be interpreted to fit the conventions of detective crime writing, and mystery.
This is made possible through Poe s utilisation of devices used in mystery and
detective novels such as red herrings and denouement. ... Show more content on

Furthermore through the quote, just after dark one gusty evening presents a gloomy
atmosphere in which the story occurs, hence following the conventions of crime
writing. Due to the element used for the setting the short story is able to comply with
both sub genres.
The Purloined Letter , fits the genre of crime writing, as well as into the sub genre of
detective fiction. This is due to such conventions as having a main detective. Dupin
is the detective who can be described as cunning, and can think like the felon within
the story. This is demonstrated through, I know him well, he is both. As a poet and
mathematician, he would reason well... I knew him as a courtier, too, and as bold .
Through this quote it is visible that Dupin knows how to think like the felon to out
work the case. This therefore allows the text to fit the conventions of detective
fiction. Furthermore he abides by other conventions of crime writing in the 1840s
such as Dupin is a male, independent, and word wise, such as, Do you remember the
story of Abernethy? , therefore through the use of questioning the Minister D he
appears to be educated with words. Nevertheless, he also is a heavy smoker, which
was part of the appearance with the twofold luxury of meditation and a meerschaum .
Through this quote not only does it demonstrate that Dupin smokes Turkish
cigarettes, but also the

Judaism, Baha i, and Christianity. The reader will find that Buddhism is more of a
philosophy than a religion that focuses on the mind as being the creator of illness and
health. The reader will also find that Judaism, Baha i, and Christianity are all
religions that believe in one God, the creator of all. This paper lists various

1). Judaism focuses more on actions than on beliefs. In Judaism, health equals
wholeness. Mind, body, and spirit are all interrelated. Physical illness is believed
to have spiritual and psychological effects while spiritual or emotional suffering
manifests as physiological symptoms (James, M., 2009). Illness is viewed by
Judaism as a part of life and can strike anyone at any time. Jewish law requires that
healing be actively sought and there is a rabbinic dictum that says you should get
the best medical care wherever you can (James, M., 2009, p. 2). Healing is
accomplished through appropriate medical care but also through prayer, reciting
of psalms, and visitation. The Misheberach, is a prayer for healing. It asks for
healing of the spirit and healing of the body for all who are ill. This prayer is recited
during the Torah service but also at an ill person s bedside. Prayers and the reciting
of psalms are not seen as asking for a cure. Instead they are expressions of hope for
whatever form healing may take (James, M., 2009, p. 2). Visitation in the Jewish
tradition is called bikur cholim, in Hebrew. It is a religious obligation or mitzvah.
The Jewish community is supposed to comfort and care for the sick and those who
do this are considered messengers of God. When we visit the sick, we take away a
small piece of their illness (James, M., 2009, p. 3).

be a challenge, and perseverance is essential to overcome obstacles. In Searching
for Summer by Joan Aiken, Tom and Lily set a goal to find sunlight, but things
take an unexpected turn and do not proceed as planned. I think they achieve their
goal, and gain even more than what they seek. As they dream of sunlight and stars,
Tom and Lily can not seem to find sunlight anywhere because of the bombs from
the war that block the sunlight. At Mrs. Hatching s cottage, they achieve their goal
and see the sunlight and also form new friendships. Tom and Lily are newlyweds,
and on their honeymoon, their primary goal is simply to find sunlight. After the
war, sunlight was rare and the sky was consistently gray. Tom said, Going to find a
bit of sun and have our honeymoon in it (6). Lily even wears a yellow wedding
dress in hopes of a life full of sunlight and blessings. In joyous celebration, the

They hate it. I don t let them dump the whole meal to the trash can, they must not

On the second day, they seemed to miss you a lot. They don t talk much anymore,
they walk slowly, spiritless like little zombies. They behave better, they don t insult
each other, they re quiet while doing their tasks, and I m really pleased because of
that. They re uncommunicative as though they re in jail. They got better anyways,
but I m not satisfied yet, they still need lots more training to do.

how to solve some arithmetic sums and add a little speed into it, I showed them

They re slow.
This is the thing that surprised me the most, they were about to run away from me, but

49. Prostitution Is The World s Oldest Profession Essay
Prostitution is said to be the world s oldest profession. It is, indeed, a model of all
professional work; the worker relinquishes control over himself... in exchange for
money. Because of this passivity it entails, this is a difficult and, for many, a
distasteful role. (Szasz) Prostitution is accompanied with criminalization and the
stigma of impurity and danger. The National Task Force on Prostitutionsuggests that
over one million people in the US have worked as prostitutes (3). (Toth) Through
time it has been attempted to be eradicated from existence to no avail. The
government has worked on behalf of society for its protection against an evil by
placing laws that would terminate it. For centuries only the unfit aspects of
prostitution have been brought to light while the benefits of the legalization of
prostitution have been overlooked. The legalization of prostitution in society has
many benefits that overshadow their opposition. It is for the greater good of society
that prostitution came out of the shadows and be legalized.
The practice of prostitution is considered a sin from a religious position. It is
deemed as an immoral act that taints the institution of marriage and opposed the
word of God by the sale of the body for sexual pleasure. In Canada, in order to
preserve the institute of marriage passed a law which in turn discriminated against the
impure. (Abrol) Additionally, it is associated as a crime that promotes human
trafficking and involves violence.
50. Dehumanization Of Women
The emotional, sexual, and psychological stereotyping begins when the doctor
says, It s a girl . said Shirley Chisholm. Women in who are born into patriarchal
societies face unimaginable struggles and horrors everyday. The article Forced
Prostitution tells the reader about the struggle Indian women face everyday in their
patriarchal society. They are raped and dehumanized on a regular basis because of
the way their society works. Much in the same way Lakshmi from Patricia
McCormick s novel Sold, about sex trafficking in Nepal, is dehumanized. She is sold
to a prostitutionring in India by her stepfather, who can no longer provide enough
money for food, shelter, and his gambling addiction. Both of these texts show that
societies where patriarchal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason for this is because a son is known to take care of the elderly parents, and
also when a couple has a daughter who is ready to be married, they must shower the
man s family with gifts. These gifts are called dowry, and every family with a son
getting married expects it. Women who can not produce a son or do something to
upset their husband are often brutally abused, and sometimes even killed. They can
be beaten, poisoned, or even set on fire. A Nova 2004 PBS documentary World in
Balance The People Paradox, tells viewers about these issues. The documentary
focuses on India and the issues with how fast their population is growing. One
reason for this is because parents will continue to produce kids until they give
birth to a son. The film says, An estimated 25,000 women are killed or brutally
abused each year over dowry and domestic disputes. Or even over failure to
produce a son. It is very clear that what these brides go through is not right. They do
not deserve to be physically abused because of something they can not even control.
These kinds of issues do not occur at all or nearly as often in non patriarchal societies
as they do in dominantly patriarchal
51. Storyboard Research Paper
The storyboard is an important tool of any movie production, providing
filmmakers with a clear narrative guideline for the movie that, a lot of times, reads
just like a comic book. Each sketch in the storyboard represents a frame of the
movie, acting as a visual script for the film to follow. Today, a storyboard
is an
essential part of keeping a movie on track, but did you know it was originally
developed in the 1930 s by cartoonists at Walt Disney Studios? Because they drew
everything by hand, they needed to save time and effort by following the directions
of a storyboard!
The thing about storyboards is that they don t have to look perfect. Usually, they
consist of quick sketches that visually demonstrate how the characters, props and the

If you have access to a whiteboard, create a visual map of the rising action of the
story as well.
Introduce the process of storyboarding and share an example of the storyboarding
handout with the group.
Storyboards are important for a number of reasons! Not only do they let you
visualize what you are going to film, but they cut down on the time it takes to make
a film because you know exactly what to do in each shot. Each scene on the
storyboard will need a basic sketch of who/what will be in the shot, directions
about what will happen as well as any dialogue or sound effects in that shot. Be sure
to brainstorm and plan out your storyboard before starting to fill in your printout!
You may want to work on a piece of scratch paper before setting it in stone.
Storyboard Time (small groups)
Time to sharpen your pencils and get creative! Break out into groups with
storyboards and pencils in hand, and have them start drafting their movies. It s okay
if groups go through two or three drafts before they decide on a final story. Making a
new storyboard is a lot easier than filming a whole new

Both the external debt, as a ratio of GDP, and the public sector deficit had fallen to
36% and 1,5%, respectively. The dependence on the petroleum export was reduced
and it accounted for only 29% of exports in 1991, compared to 77% in 1982. There
had been a tremendous structural shift within sectors where the ownership, market
shares and responsibility between the government and the private sector became more
evenly distributed. The government was highly involved in public utilities,
petroleum, banking and some manufacturing industries, while the private sector
dominated the remaining areas (especially manufacturing, mining, commerce,
entertainment and service industries). The main economic goals of the Mexican
government in 1991 were to lower inflation, modernize the economy and improve
the standard of living for the poorest inhabitants. In order to control the inflation,
that had spiked to over 159% in 1987 (www.banxico.org.mx), the government
introduced several new policies: 1) reduce the fiscal deficit and the public sectors
internal debt, 2) control aggregate demand, 3) temper real wage increases, 4) limit
price increases, and 5) sterilize capital inflows. The government also developed
different measures in order to encourage foreign direct investments in Mexico. This
