This document discusses the role of psychiatric social workers in providing intervention for people with disabilities and victims of accidents. It outlines that social workers aim to strengthen human functioning and support resources for clients. Their interventions for the disabled include preventative, curative, and rehabilitative services like vocational training, counseling, assessments, and helping patients prepare to return home after medical care. For accident victims, social workers are involved in admission decisions, ensure ongoing support, and provide legal assistance. The overall goal is for social workers to help both groups improve their social functioning through various services.

Like any other webquest, this one follows the same structure: Introduction, Task, Process, Resources, Evaluation and Conclusion. Students should put themselves in the place of people with special needs, reflect on their attitudes and behaviour towards them. They will be also ask to design a poster to help improve attitudes toward children with disabilities. In the process, they follow some given topics and links. They are also aware of what their evaluation will consist on and what they´ll have learnt when the project is complete.
Social networking, a relatively new communication phenomenon, has the ability to provide education, foster advocacy, promote the profession, and influence mental health policy. It also has the potential to violate boundaries, infringe on privacy, create liability, and damage professional credibility. A review of the literature revealed limited research has been conducted concerning the impact and use of social networking sites in nursing practice and other healthcare disciplines.
In Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing, communication is the foundation of the therapeutic alliance. Because social networking communications have the potential to positively and negatively affect this alliance, it is imperative to develop guidelines for prudent and resourceful usage of social networking media that complies with practice acts, promotes professionalism, and maintains work-life balance for the psychiatric mental health nurse. This session will provide an overview of different types of social media outlets, review published position statements from other healthcare disciplines, and consider best practices for Psychiatric/Mental health nursing.
Psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) is a holistic approach to supporting individuals with mental health conditions or disabilities in their recovery journey. It aims to enhance their quality of life, independence, and community integration by addressing psychological, social, and environmental factors. The goals of psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) are multifaceted and aim to address the diverse needs of individuals with mental health conditions or disabilities. These goals are centered around promoting recovery, enhancing quality of life, fostering independence, and facilitating community integration.
• Promoting Recovery
• Enhancing Daily Functioning
• Developing Coping Skills
• Building Social Skills and Relationships
• facilitating Vocational and Educational Goals
• Promoting Community Integration
• Improving Mental Health and Well-being
• Preventing Relapse and Hospitalization
• Enhancing Independence and Self-Sufficiency
• Improving Quality of Life
FACTORS AFFECTING PSYCHOSOCIAL REHABILITATION
Several factors can affect the effectiveness and outcomes of psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) for individuals with mental health conditions or disabilities. These factors may influence the individual's ability to engage in rehabilitation activities, adhere to treatment plans, and achieve their recovery goals.
• Severity and Nature of the Disability: The type and severity of the individual's mental health condition or disability can significantly impact their ability to participate in psychosocial rehabilitation. Conditions with more severe symptoms or functional impairments may require more intensive or specialized interventions.
• Individual Characteristics: Personal factors such as age, gender, cultural background, socioeconomic status, education level, and personality traits can influence how individuals respond to psychosocial rehabilitation. Understanding these factors is essential for tailoring interventions to meet the individual's unique needs and preferences.
• Social Support Network: The presence of a supportive social network, including family, friends, peers, and other community members, can enhance the individual's ability to engage in psychosocial rehabilitation and cope with challenges. Conversely, lack of social support or negative social interactions may hinder progress in rehabilitation.
• Access to Resources: Adequate access to healthcare, mental health services, rehabilitation facilities, housing, transportation, employment opportunities, and other community resources is essential for supporting individuals in their recovery journey. Barriers to accessing these resources, such as financial constraints or geographic limitations, can impede progress in psychosocial rehabilitation.
• Stigma and Discrimination: Stigma associated with mental illness or disability can negatively impact individuals' self-esteem, self-efficacy, and willingness to seek help or engage in rehabilitation services. Addressing stigma and discrimination.

Defecation
Normal defecation begins with movement in the left colon, moving stool toward the anus. When stool reaches the rectum, the distention causes relaxation of the internal sphincter and an awareness of the need to defecate. At the time of defecation, the external sphincter relaxes, and abdominal muscles contract, increasing intrarectal pressure and forcing the stool out
The Valsalva maneuver exerts pressure to expel faeces through a voluntary contraction of the abdominal muscles while maintaining forced expiration against a closed airway. Patients with cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, increased intracranial pressure, or a new surgical wound are at greater risk for cardiac dysrhythmias and elevated blood pressure with the Valsalva maneuver and need to avoid straining to pass the stool.
Normal defecation is painless, resulting in passage of soft, formed stool
CONSTIPATION
Constipation is a symptom, not a disease. Improper diet, reduced fluid intake, lack of exercise, and certain medications can cause constipation. For example, patients receiving opiates for pain after surgery often require a stool softener or laxative to prevent constipation. The signs of constipation include infrequent bowel movements (less than every 3 days), difficulty passing stools, excessive straining, inability to defecate at will, and hard feaces
IMPACTION
Fecal impaction results from unrelieved constipation. It is a collection of hardened feces wedged in the rectum that a person cannot expel. In cases of severe impaction the mass extends up into the sigmoid colon.
DIARRHEA
Diarrhea is an increase in the number of stools and the passage of liquid, unformed feces. It is associated with disorders affecting digestion, absorption, and secretion in the GI tract. Intestinal contents pass through the small and large intestine too quickly to allow for the usual absorption of fluid and nutrients. Irritation within the colon results in increased mucus secretion. As a result, feces become watery, and the patient is unable to control the urge to defecate. Normally an anal bag is safe and effective in long-term treatment of patients with fecal incontinence at home, in hospice, or in the hospital. Fecal incontinence is expensive and a potentially dangerous condition in terms of contamination and risk of skin ulceration
HEMORRHOIDS
Hemorrhoids are dilated, engorged veins in the lining of the rectum. They are either external or internal.
FLATULENCE
As gas accumulates in the lumen of the intestines, the bowel wall stretches and distends (flatulence). It is a common cause of abdominal fullness, pain, and cramping. Normally intestinal gas escapes through the mouth (belching) or the anus (passing of flatus)
FECAL INCONTINENCE
Fecal incontinence is the inability to control passage of feces and gas from the anus. Incontinence harms a patient’s body image
