What is a group?
A number of people coming together to meet up on a
regular basis or for a cause is called Group.
Definition:
Social Group Work is a method of social work which helps
individuals to enhance their social functioning through
purposeful group experiences and to cope more
effectively with their personal, group or community
problems”

Children in Juvenile Delinquents
There are two types of children who fall under this category
-> Children who are in need of care
-> Children who are against the law
Group work with children against the law
 It opens up opportunities to participate in the
functioning of the agency
 Children discuss about the problems between the
inmates
 Discussion about the issues related to division of work
 Complaints about the staff in charge
Children are seen to improve in self confidence, self esteem
and behavior since they are properly respected in the
juvenile homes
Group therapy in juvenile home
 It seeks to facilitate adjustment in the centre
 It seeks to further diagnostic understanding
 Gain insight about oneself from the others in the group
 It sought to meet normal growth needs
 It seeks to influence the institutional milieu
