Gantt charts and critical path method (CPM) are tools for planning and scheduling projects. Gantt charts use horizontal bars to illustrate a schedule, but have limitations around relationships between activities. CPM models activities and their logical connections in a network. It determines the critical path of activities with zero slack that must finish on time to complete the project. An example of building an addition is used to demonstrate a Gantt chart and develop a CPM network to identify the critical path of activities. Strengths and weaknesses of the project are analyzed.
