INTRODUCTION
Bending is a process to convert the
straight bars into the arc or circular shapes.
It is a very important process in the various
industries like manufacturing, automobile
etc.
Bending is a process by which metal is
deformed by plastically deforming the
material and changing its shape.
Bending usually refers to deformation about
one axis.
Bending is flexible process by which many
different shape can be produced
ROLLER BENDER
 Roller bender is a mechanical
device which is used to bend
various type of straight metallic
bars into arc or circular shape.
 The metallic bars which are bend in
this bender can be of any cross
section like circular square
rectangular etc.
 Roller bender is typically a bending
machine which is used for circular
bending.
BELT GRINDER
• Belt grinder is used for material
removal by using abrasive
material.
PIPE BENDER
• Pipe bender is used to bend the
hollow pipe in u-shape and at
any angle using pulley and
handle .
PRINCIPLE OF ROLLER BENDER
Roller bender works on principle that roller freely rotate about three parallel axis,
which are arranged with horizontal spacing.
The two outer rollers , usually immobile , cradle the bottom of material while the
inner roller whose position is adjustable, pressures on top side of the material.
The plastic deformation of bar is retained through out the process.
OBJECTIVES OF
ROLLER BENDER
 It is used to convert straight metallic
bar into circular shape.
 Most important aspects is that we
can bend bars into different
diameters.
 It is cost effective due to simple
design.
 Bending of various cross section
can be done

HYDRAULIC JACK
A hydraulic jack is a
device that is used to lift
heavy loads by applying a
force via a hydraulic cylinder.
Hydraulic jacks lift loads
using the force created by the
pressure in the cylinder
chamber.
FRAME
A structure is called a frame if at
least one of its individual members
is a multi force member. A multi
force member is defined as one
with three or more forces acting on
it, or one with two or more forces
and one or more couples acting on
it. Frames are structures which are
designed to support applied loads
and are usually fixed in position.
PEDESTAL BEARING
A pedestal bearing is a pedestal used to
provide support for a rotating shaft with the
help of compatible bearings & various
accessories. Housing material for a pillow
block is typically made of cast iron or cast
steel.
A pillow block refers to any mounted bearing
wherein the mounted shaft is in a parallel
plane to the mounting surface, and
perpendicular to the center line of the
mounting holes, as contrasted with various
types of flange blocks or flange units.
A pillow block may contain a bearing with
one of several types of rolling elements,
including ball, cylindrical roller, spherical
roller
ROLLER
In this project the roller is used to bend a pipe in angular shape.
There are 3 rollers which are used to bend a pipe in curvature shape. Roller is a
cylinder that rotates about a central axis and is used in various machines and devices to
move, flatten or spread something. A roller always consist a bearing.
Out 3 of the only one is diving roller and other two are driven rollers.
Radius of curvature depends on distance between the rollers.
HAND WHEEL
It is nothing but a rotary wheel of round pipe
to give rolling action to rollers manually.
 When we rotate the wheel, a torque is
applied on it to pass the sheet and pipes under
it. This hand wheel is attached with one the 3
rollers and used to rotate roller manually.
It is larger in size in order to reduce the
efforts to rotate it.
DESIGN OF ROLLER BENDER IN SOLID WORKS
WORKING
• After the bar is initially inserted into the jig, the middle roller is manually lowered
and forced against the bar with hydraulic jack. This causes the bar to undergo both
plastic and elastic deformation. The portion of the bar between the roller while
take on shape of a cubic polynomial, which approximates a circular arc. The
rollers are then rotated moving the bar along with them.
• For each new position, the portion of the bar between the rollers take on the shape
of a cubic modified by the end conditions imposed by the adjacent sections of the
bar. When either end of the bar is reached, the force applied to the center roller is
incrementally increased, the roller rotation is reversed and as the rolling process
proceeds, the bar shape become a better approximation to a circular arc, gradually,
for the number of the passes required to bring the arc of the bar to the desired
radius.
ADVANTAGES
• Low cost operation and maintenance.
• Extremely high output forces and force multiplication by
means of the "hydraulic lever".
• Hydraulic systems are self-lubricating and power saving.
• It can only bend-Up to 10 mm thick.
• Great efficiency and economy due to low friction losses and
high system reliability.
LIMITATIONS
• It can only bend pipes of limited thickness.
• Heavy work is not possible.
• Because of manually operated machine, process is not fast or
continuous.
APPLICATION
• Building construction.
• Chemical Plant and Petro-chemical Plants etc.
• Material handling equipment.
• Cycle, bikes frames etc.
• Réfrigération pipes and Boiler tubes etc.
CONCLUSION
Such type of bending machine more important for small scale work as well
as industrial work in less cost and more precision and accuracy of different
type of pipe bending. The machine capacity can be increased according to the
need. Manual bending tends to minimize wrinkles and can reduce springbuck.
By its design the defects can be easily overcome. Simpler design not only
reduces the defects but also contributes to fluid pressure test during bending.
It should be noted the tendency to wrinkle and the cross section of tube
deformation are reduced. Thus, this approach can be used for bending a thin
walled tube over a small radius of the die, which can be achieved with a
conventional method of bending the tube. In this paper, the problem of
bending and axial stretching the internal pressure is investigated using the
machine coordinate system (CMM) measurement. The objective of the study
is to develop a tool that accurately predicts the change of the wall thickness
and the cross-section of the tube distortion under different loading conditions.

INTRODUCTION Bending is a process to convert the straight bars into the arc or circular shapes. It is a very important process in the various industries like manufacturing, automobile etc. Bending is a process by which metal is deformed by plastically deforming the material and changing its shape. Bending usually refers to deformation about one axis. Bending is flexible process by which many different shape can be produced

ROLLER BENDER  Roller bender is a mechanical device which is used to bend various type of straight metallic bars into arc or circular shape.  The metallic bars which are bend in this bender can be of any cross section like circular square rectangular etc.  Roller bender is typically a bending machine which is used for circular bending.
  • 5. BELT GRINDER • Belt grinder is used for material removal by using abrasive material.
  • 6. PIPE BENDER • Pipe bender is used to bend the hollow pipe in u-shape and at any angle using pulley and handle .
  • 7. PRINCIPLE OF ROLLER BENDER Roller bender works on principle that roller freely rotate about three parallel axis, which are arranged with horizontal spacing. The two outer rollers , usually immobile , cradle the bottom of material while the inner roller whose position is adjustable, pressures on top side of the material. The plastic deformation of bar is retained through out the process.

  • 12. HYDRAULIC JACK A hydraulic jack is a device that is used to lift heavy loads by applying a force via a hydraulic cylinder. Hydraulic jacks lift loads using the force created by the pressure in the cylinder chamber.
  • 13. FRAME A structure is called a frame if at least one of its individual members is a multi force member. A multi force member is defined as one with three or more forces acting on it, or one with two or more forces and one or more couples acting on it. Frames are structures which are designed to support applied loads and are usually fixed in position.
  • 14. PEDESTAL BEARING A pedestal bearing is a pedestal used to provide support for a rotating shaft with the help of compatible bearings & various accessories. Housing material for a pillow block is typically made of cast iron or cast steel. A pillow block refers to any mounted bearing wherein the mounted shaft is in a parallel plane to the mounting surface, and perpendicular to the center line of the mounting holes, as contrasted with various types of flange blocks or flange units. A pillow block may contain a bearing with one of several types of rolling elements, including ball, cylindrical roller, spherical roller
  • 15. ROLLER In this project the roller is used to bend a pipe in angular shape. There are 3 rollers which are used to bend a pipe in curvature shape. Roller is a cylinder that rotates about a central axis and is used in various machines and devices to move, flatten or spread something. A roller always consist a bearing. Out 3 of the only one is diving roller and other two are driven rollers. Radius of curvature depends on distance between the rollers.

HAND WHEEL It is nothing but a rotary wheel of round pipe to give rolling action to rollers manually.  When we rotate the wheel, a torque is applied on it to pass the sheet and pipes under it. This hand wheel is attached with one the 3 rollers and used to rotate roller manually. It is larger in size in order to reduce the efforts to rotate it.

  • 20. WORKING • After the bar is initially inserted into the jig, the middle roller is manually lowered and forced against the bar with hydraulic jack. This causes the bar to undergo both plastic and elastic deformation. The portion of the bar between the roller while take on shape of a cubic polynomial, which approximates a circular arc. The rollers are then rotated moving the bar along with them. • For each new position, the portion of the bar between the rollers take on the shape of a cubic modified by the end conditions imposed by the adjacent sections of the bar. When either end of the bar is reached, the force applied to the center roller is incrementally increased, the roller rotation is reversed and as the rolling process proceeds, the bar shape become a better approximation to a circular arc, gradually, for the number of the passes required to bring the arc of the bar to the desired radius.

ADVANTAGES • Low cost operation and maintenance. • Extremely high output forces and force multiplication by means of the "hydraulic lever". • Hydraulic systems are self-lubricating and power saving. • It can only bend-Up to 10 mm thick. • Great efficiency and economy due to low friction losses and high system reliability.
  • 22. LIMITATIONS • It can only bend pipes of limited thickness. • Heavy work is not possible. • Because of manually operated machine, process is not fast or continuous.
  • 23. APPLICATION • Building construction. • Chemical Plant and Petro-chemical Plants etc. • Material handling equipment. • Cycle, bikes frames etc. • Réfrigération pipes and Boiler tubes etc.
  • 24. CONCLUSION Such type of bending machine more important for small scale work as well as industrial work in less cost and more precision and accuracy of different type of pipe bending. The machine capacity can be increased according to the need. Manual bending tends to minimize wrinkles and can reduce springbuck. By its design the defects can be easily overcome. Simpler design not only reduces the defects but also contributes to fluid pressure test during bending. It should be noted the tendency to wrinkle and the cross section of tube deformation are reduced. Thus, this approach can be used for bending a thin walled tube over a small radius of the die, which can be achieved with a conventional method of bending the tube. In this paper, the problem of bending and axial stretching the internal pressure is investigated using the machine coordinate system (CMM) measurement. The objective of the study is to develop a tool that accurately predicts the change of the wall thickness and the cross-section of the tube distortion under different loading conditions.
