Program Objectives Equip teachers the needed skills on script writing for aired
lessons;
Equip teachers the needed skills in teaching on radio;
Record radio based instruction; and, produce RBI for airing.
Executive Summary
After the opening program, the INSET Workshop started with Mental Health topic as
deemed necessary during this pandemic. Self-resiliency was also given focus by Ms Umingli
to assure and inspire teachers to be mentally healthy. This part was prepared and led by the
Guidance Office. The topic on mental health was followed by the Regional Memo 178,
explained by the department head.
The main training-workshop was presented by Mr Corisis Morgia. He explained the
basics of Radio Broadcasting Instruction as one of the modes of learning during this school
year. This was followed by the scriptwriting with the assistance of Ms Raymunda Bayubay.
Scriptwriting was continued on the third day with Mr Hamilton Macagne and Mr Bobby
Licudine, who critiqued the radio broadcast scripts of the participants. In addition, they also
commented on the initial recorded radio broadcast of the participants. These activities were
done during the third day of the INSET.
TV-based instruction was also introduced by Ms Virgin Joy Faguinney. It was followed
by showing of sample TV-broadcast. Editing of the recorded radio broadcast was also
explained by Mr Jessie Maguiya. The rest of the fourth day was spent for the improvement of
the script and recorded radio broadcast.
The fifth day was spent for team-building activities per curriculum.
The last day was the submission of the final copy of the radio script and the closing
program and agreements were done on the improvement of the participants’ outputs.
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Preparation of the program, INSET proposal, and communication to participants.
2. Consultation with the department head and school head for approval.
3. Planning with the resource speakers and facilitators, and preparation of the materials
needed for the INSET.
B. During the INSET
After the virtual opening program, the Guidance Office personnel introduced the first
activity on mental health. Ms Marilyn Sotto spoke about mental health, its kinds and effects
especially during this pandemic. Mental health was differentiated from mental illness. Ms
Maria Luisa Umingli followed with her topic on self-care and resiliency. She shared some
steps on how one could avoid mental illness. She told the audience to avoid overthinking,
which could contribute much on mental health problem.
In the afternoon session, Mrs Marie Christeta Singun took over Mrs Dorothy Asingal for
the explanation of the Regional Memo 178,s 2020.
On the second, Mr Corisis Morgia talked to the participants about radio broadcasting
instruction. He emphasized that RBI is very different from the radio broadcast in journalism
contest. He assured the participants that their RBI record could be aired through the Radyo
Aral, and they could be given certification for that, as long as their outputs would be properly
edited. He further explained that the RBI is supplementary to the module, not a repetition. He
explained how to write the radio script and gave examples. He played a sample recorded
script which was aired for this first quarter.
Mr Licudine shared about the benefits of RBI such as materials for LR, helping students,
reaching out to learners, capacity building for teachers, but most importantly, the learning the
participants could get from the INSET.
After the presentation, scriptwriting workshop followed. This was done by curriculum as
it was required to use a module from CO or locally produced. The writing workshop
continued until afternoon. Ms Raymunda Bayubay shared a sample work during the division
wide RBI. She also assisted the participants in writing their RBI script.
On the third day, Mr Hamilton Macagne explained the process and technicalities of
recording radio scripts. He emphasized the conversational aspect of the RBI because its
purpose is to arouse interest among the learners to continue learning. Mr Macagne was
joined by Mr Licudine in critiquing the radio scripts. The participants also showed the initial
recording of their scripts. These were then commented for improvement.
Mr Jessie Maguiya shared about the computer application he is using in recording and
editing radio scripts (Cool Edit Pro). He also gave some input about sound effects which the
participants appreciated much.
On the fourth day, Ms Vj Faguinney, together with Ms Remigio, shared about TV-based
instruction. They showed the difference of TV-based from RB and showed samples of TV-
based lessons. The rest of the day was spent for improving the radio script and recorded
RBI.
C. Post Training
It was agreed upon by the participants that the improved and edited recorded radio
broadcast will be submitted before December 28, 2020. Also, the utilisation of RBI will
continue to assist learners in their modules.
Summary of Evaluation and Monitoring
The participants were generally satisfied with the implementation of the INSET 2020 with
3.4 total weighted average, which means they strongly agree. Delivery of content got 3.5,
which is the highest among the indicators. Conference Venue got 3.3, agree, as the lowest
among the indicators. Management of training-workshop, provision of materials, and meals
got 3.4 each. The rest of the indicators got 3.45 and 3.47 respectively.
Participants’ Feedback
RBI could not be practical to use during this age when learners would use cell phone
instead of radio, but the RBI was chosen as one of the modes of delivering learning to
accommodate those cell phone signal is weak. Radio frequency can reach those at the
outskirts of the communities, thereby living up to the ideal that “no learner should be left
behind”. And this could boost the confidence of a learner to work on his/her modules.
RBI is challenging but learning-wise. It is a challenging and ambitious feat for teachers
who have no prior experience with radio broadcasting; but at the end, it is full of new learning
and realization on how RBI could help in education today. It is also a wise choice because
other stakeholders are involved in the process, not only the teachers. Parents and guardians
can monitor what the learners are listening to, thus they could give more input to the learner.
Some of us were reluctant about RBI, but after the explanation and presentation of the
speakers, we were inspired to come up with outputs. And so, we did, but they still need
improvement.
RBI is not easy due to lack of good materials to use and the proper room for recording.
This tested the resourcefulness of the participants to use other means in recording their
work. Still, a proper editing material and room are needed if this RBI will continue.
Longer time is needed. Analysing a module and preparing a radio script for it would take
time. Critiquing of the radio script is not the forte of everyone, so someone’s help is needed.
Another one is the time for the recording process— and that would not be done once, but
many times to come up with a quality product.

Executive Summary After the opening program, the INSET Workshop started with Mental Health topic as deemed necessary during this pandemic. Self-resiliency was also given focus by Ms Umingli to assure and inspire teachers to be mentally healthy. This part was prepared and led by the Guidance Office. The topic on mental health was followed by the Regional Memo 178, explained by the department head. The main training-workshop was presented by Mr Corisis Morgia. He explained the basics of Radio Broadcasting Instruction as one of the modes of learning during this school year. This was followed by the scriptwriting with the assistance of Ms Raymunda Bayubay. Scriptwriting was continued on the third day with Mr Hamilton Macagne and Mr Bobby Licudine, who critiqued the radio broadcast scripts of the participants. In addition, they also commented on the initial recorded radio broadcast of the participants. These activities were done during the third day of the INSET. TV-based instruction was also introduced by Ms Virgin Joy Faguinney. It was followed by showing of sample TV-broadcast. Editing of the recorded radio broadcast was also explained by Mr Jessie Maguiya. The rest of the fourth day was spent for the improvement of the script and recorded radio broadcast. The fifth day was spent for team-building activities per curriculum. The last day was the submission of the final copy of the radio script and the closing program and agreements were done on the improvement of the participants’ outputs.
  • 2. A. Preliminary Activities 1. Preparation of the program, INSET proposal, and communication to participants. 2. Consultation with the department head and school head for approval. 3. Planning with the resource speakers and facilitators, and preparation of the materials needed for the INSET. B. During the INSET After the virtual opening program, the Guidance Office personnel introduced the first activity on mental health. Ms Marilyn Sotto spoke about mental health, its kinds and effects especially during this pandemic. Mental health was differentiated from mental illness. Ms Maria Luisa Umingli followed with her topic on self-care and resiliency. She shared some steps on how one could avoid mental illness. She told the audience to avoid overthinking, which could contribute much on mental health problem. In the afternoon session, Mrs Marie Christeta Singun took over Mrs Dorothy Asingal for the explanation of the Regional Memo 178,s 2020. On the second, Mr Corisis Morgia talked to the participants about radio broadcasting instruction. He emphasized that RBI is very different from the radio broadcast in journalism contest. He assured the participants that their RBI record could be aired through the Radyo Aral, and they could be given certification for that, as long as their outputs would be properly edited. He further explained that the RBI is supplementary to the module, not a repetition. He explained how to write the radio script and gave examples. He played a sample recorded script which was aired for this first quarter. Mr Licudine shared about the benefits of RBI such as materials for LR, helping students, reaching out to learners, capacity building for teachers, but most importantly, the learning the participants could get from the INSET. After the presentation, scriptwriting workshop followed. This was done by curriculum as it was required to use a module from CO or locally produced. The writing workshop continued until afternoon. Ms Raymunda Bayubay shared a sample work during the division wide RBI. She also assisted the participants in writing their RBI script. On the third day, Mr Hamilton Macagne explained the process and technicalities of recording radio scripts. He emphasized the conversational aspect of the RBI because its purpose is to arouse interest among the learners to continue learning. Mr Macagne was joined by Mr Licudine in critiquing the radio scripts. The participants also showed the initial recording of their scripts. These were then commented for improvement. Mr Jessie Maguiya shared about the computer application he is using in recording and editing radio scripts (Cool Edit Pro). He also gave some input about sound effects which the participants appreciated much. On the fourth day, Ms Vj Faguinney, together with Ms Remigio, shared about TV-based instruction. They showed the difference of TV-based from RB and showed samples of TV- based lessons. The rest of the day was spent for improving the radio script and recorded RBI.
  • 3. C. Post Training It was agreed upon by the participants that the improved and edited recorded radio broadcast will be submitted before December 28, 2020. Also, the utilisation of RBI will continue to assist learners in their modules. Summary of Evaluation and Monitoring The participants were generally satisfied with the implementation of the INSET 2020 with 3.4 total weighted average, which means they strongly agree. Delivery of content got 3.5, which is the highest among the indicators. Conference Venue got 3.3, agree, as the lowest among the indicators. Management of training-workshop, provision of materials, and meals got 3.4 each. The rest of the indicators got 3.45 and 3.47 respectively. Participants’ Feedback RBI could not be practical to use during this age when learners would use cell phone instead of radio, but the RBI was chosen as one of the modes of delivering learning to accommodate those cell phone signal is weak. Radio frequency can reach those at the outskirts of the communities, thereby living up to the ideal that “no learner should be left behind”. And this could boost the confidence of a learner to work on his/her modules. RBI is challenging but learning-wise. It is a challenging and ambitious feat for teachers who have no prior experience with radio broadcasting; but at the end, it is full of new learning and realization on how RBI could help in education today. It is also a wise choice because other stakeholders are involved in the process, not only the teachers. Parents and guardians can monitor what the learners are listening to, thus they could give more input to the learner. Some of us were reluctant about RBI, but after the explanation and presentation of the speakers, we were inspired to come up with outputs. And so, we did, but they still need improvement. RBI is not easy due to lack of good materials to use and the proper room for recording. This tested the resourcefulness of the participants to use other means in recording their work. Still, a proper editing material and room are needed if this RBI will continue. Longer time is needed. Analysing a module and preparing a radio script for it would take time. Critiquing of the radio script is not the forte of everyone, so someone’s help is needed. Another one is the time for the recording process— and that would not be done once, but many times to come up with a quality product.
