schedules.
Professional Attributes:
Highly organized . Diligent . Good Communicator . Good written and verbal skills . Ability to manage multiple tasks .
Strong understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes.
Design Strengths:
I have a strong under standing of controlled impedances, differential pairs matching (timing circuits) and RF design
in particular. I have extensive experience working with radio communication (RF), High Speed digital (400 ghz)
controller cards, Power Supplies and designs with special shielding requirements for EMI concerns. I have some
Flex circuit design experience as well and an understanding of the necessary manufacturing tolerances to take a
design from conception though fabrication and assembly. I have experience in CAM software and can do DFM
checking and panelization, solder paste modification if required.
Work Experience:
I have over thirty years of experience in engineering and PCB design. I have held positions as Drafter,
Designer, Checker and CAD Manager for companies through out my career. I have worked on Top Secret
government projects and have held a secret and classified clearance previously (not currently active). My
experience has been extensive in Areospace and Space flight equipment with zero gravity implications and thermal
swings. In addition I was worked for many years doing RF designs for Cryogenic Wi-Fi filtering systems. I have
done High Speed Digital Design at 400ghz with via in pad on micro BGA’s and controlled impedance differential
pairs. (samples are available upon request)
I have worked as a DFM engineer evaluating designs for design errors, potential manufacturing
complications and compliance for testability. I also performed controlled impedance calculations, taking in
consideration layer stack up and copper weight, line width and spacing to ensure the proper impedance calculated
was indeed going to be met as required. Part of my duties was to also panelize designs to accommodate assembly
reflow / wave solder machines during the assembly processes. Create Solder paste Stencils and implement
calculated modifications to prevent solder bridging on fine pitch parts.
With my experience and education in both fields I am able to design smart and effectively in producing high
yield quality designs taking manufacturing and testability in consideration in the forefront of the design process.
2. Employment History:
CLH Design Services Inc. 1992-Present
North Hollywood, CA 91604
I performed several duties beyond the standard duties of PCB Designer at CLH Design. Part of my tasks
were to estimate design efforts and quote jobs. I typically estimate the effort by breaking it down into hours
reflecting each individual effort (i.e. Schematic Entry, Packaging, Placement and Routing etc.) I generate a design
log of the entire design effort to track the progress and make any adjustments necessary to meet the deliverable
target date.
I created and maintained component libraries. I realized the most effective way to reduce the “error ratio” is to
utilize a library with “validated geometries”. The biggest impact in testing any new design is if a “new footprint” has
been built incorrectly. Once used and validated, it is gold and kept in a “released” library that can be used by many
designers. Library Control is instrumental to maintain a high level of integrity in all designs.
Vendor relationships are also critical in providing the necessary tools for a quick accurate build.
Working in concert with your vendors whether it is Fabrication, Assembly or Test Equipment can be an intricate part
of the entire process. The earlier the better in my opinion, communicating with these vendors to what your design
goals are and to validate those goals and approach allows you to go forward with confidence that your design will
be compliant with the specifications and tolerances that will guarantee your design with a high yield and low
tolerance for error.
CLH Design maintained several long term working relationships with companies such as;
Jet Propulsion Laboratories 1996 - 2012
4800 Oak Grove Drive, Pasadena, Ca 91109
I was privileged to work on several projects over a ten year span with JPL;
The design work was done using Pads, Altium, Mentor Board Station/ Design Architect design tools.
The type of work was predominately Analog / Digital criteria and since it was in a zero gravity and space both
Military and Nasa design requirements were prevalent. Board ranges varied from 2-24 layers and all support
documentation was generated in Autocad.
Typical Duties: Design a Flight Certified Hardware to be used in the “James Webb Telescope” This Design Effort
consisted on two twelve layer boards (Analog/ Digital, interfacing circuit) There were several mechanical constraints
(calibration requirements) that were adhered to and performed by integrating the mechanical package with the EDA
tool using the IGES protocol to interface the two environments together. All goals were met and the design criteria
was in accordance with JPL Flight requirements as well as IPC-2221.
EDA Tools Used: (Mentor: Design Architect / Board Station /AutoCAD / Hyperlynx)
Company’s Product Criteria: Satellites and Space Exploration
Previous projects completed for JPL include work on the Pathfinder, Cassini, and Mars Polar Lander, MSL Rover,
Reconnaissance Satellites and the James Web Telescope.
Superconductor Technologies 2000- 2010
4680 Ward drive, Santa Barbara. Ca 93111
Typical Duties: The designs done for this company has been very unique do to the fact that it is utilizing cutting
edge technologies. RF Design methodology has been the main discipline here. I have done several designs for this
company over the years that include redesigning their current product line. The type of board that I refer to are,
Back planes, Control boards, Power Supply and Interfacing test fixtures. I have supported all these design through
fabrication and have supported this company’s assembly requirements for their third party assembly house. A long
those line I have calculated verified and implemented all of the controlled impedance characteristics to ensure
acceptable tolerances were met and acceptable results were produced at the time of fabrication.
EDA Tools Used: (Pads PCB/ Orcad Capture/ Hyperlynx)
Company’s Product Criteria: Cryogenic Filtering for wireless networks, integrating sub-networks for customized
retrofitting to customer specifications.
Raytheon Corp (military) 2002 - 2012
2000 E. Imperial Hwy, El Segundo, CA 90245
Typical Duties: To design a “Controller Card” for a Military project, the project is in relationship to weapons for the
US military. This particular design was 14 layers with a DCP (BGA) controller with an 8-amp power supply. Their
was several differential pairs and controlled impedance lines.
EDA Tools Used: (Mentor Board-Station/ Board-Architect / Hyperlynx)
Company’s Product Criteria: Military Application
3. Harman Karden (Audio) 2005- 2014
8500 Balboa Blvd, Northridge, Ca 91329
Typical Duties: Design an Analog / Digital Controller Card with very tight mechanical constraints. This particular
design effort is part of a new product line for the Ipod Base station Product line (consumer electronics). This
particular design was done with in a 4 layer construction with a split power and ground plane layers. The Ground
plane was done in a star ground configuration to add ground shielding and noise reduction to multiple channels
represented on the board.
EDA Tools Used: Altium Designer/ Autocad
Company’s Product Criteria: Consumer Electronics (Audio)
Previous products work on: Ipod Boom box, Micro Radial Controller
All of the above fore mentioned are companies with a history of a long good working relationship in which a
Purchase Order was in place annually to secure CLH services for design support.
Most recently;
STONE ELECTRONICS LLC: July 2014- Present
13000 SAN FERNANDO ROAD , SYLMAR, CA 91342
Salinity Design: Controller Card with an on board Power Supply section.
The type of circuit designed for this effort can be defined and Analog / Digital with Electromagnetic Interference
(EMI) considerations. This layout is comprised of “through hole” component technology. This is a ruggedized
instrument that is built to take extreme vibration and shock. Testing has been on going by the Navy and has passed
all the required benchmarks.
The composition of this design is as follows: Two signal layers, Two power layers and a Two shield layers. The
shield layers are tied to a isolated ground net that is stitched through out the board utilizing small feed thru vias, this
technique is in affect creating an electrical shield (can) that will prevent any outside interference (EMI) to
compromise the integrity of the operation of this circuit.
EDA Tools used: Altium Designer / Autocad
Company’s Product Criteria: Military (US Navy)
REPLENISH CORPORATION: July 2013 thru February 2014
2645 Nina St,Pasadena CA 91107
Worked on several designs utilizing basic design techniques for micro-circuitry in very dense work areas. Since the
main product line for this company was eye implants for the application of medication for those with degenerative
eye conditions. The use of flex circuitry was the standard practice for the dielectric substrate. Also the use and
implementation of 3D design was critical since the use of very small enclosures were used as the implant device.
Very challenging and exciting work! all work meets UL standards.
Flex circuit battery construction PCB
I did two versions of this design for two separate criteria.
This designed use circuitry specifically placed and when folded it created the required voltage and battery
construction that powered the implant devices.
