Brain Ischemia Essay
The blood brain barrier (BBB) is a metabolic and physical barrier between the central nervous system
and the brain blood flow (1). The correct functioning of the BBB is crucial for keeping brain
homeostasis and avoiding many poisons and pathogens (2). During cerebral ischemia, BBB disruption
is a crucial event that induces an influx of water, resulting in vasogenic edema (3), and causes
supplementary brain harm such as dementia through accumulation of beta amyloid peptide (4). Brain
edema aggravates the development of infarct development and causes herniation and loss of life (5). It
s been reported that reactive oxygen species (ROS) exert deleterious activities, such as BBB
disruption and BBB hyperpermeability, during vasogenic edema (6). ... Show more content on

Furthermore, inhibition of ROS protects TJs against disruption during brain damage (8). Furthermore,
amelioration of ischemia induced BBB disruption and brain edema in addition has been shown by
using diet antioxidants such as olive leaf extract and ginkgo biloba extract (9, 10). Matricaria
chamomilla can be an aroma herb with anticancer, antioxidant, and anti inflammatory properties (11),
is an important source of dietary antioxidants (12). Various studies show that matricaria chamomilla is
associated with several health advantages such as antioxidants (13), and cancer (14). However, to the
best of our knowledge, little is well known about the result of matricaria chamomilla extract on BBB
dysfunction during brain ischemia. In the present study, we looked into whether matricaria
chamomilla extract has beneficial results on brain ischemia induced edema and BBB dysfunction in
mice. The possible root systems are also looked into, especially those from the antioxidant
ramifications of the matricaria chamomilla

Essay on Advanced Production Critical Evaluation
Advanced Production Critical Evaluation For my AS production I followed a set brief. I was required
to work in a group to produce a 3 minute trailer for a new horror/thriller movie. In my A2 advanced
production my brief was to work within a group in order to produce a promotional package to
introduce a new band into the mainstream music industry. The package could take any form, using a
variety of medias. We started the project by doing individual research into the music industry. Through
my research I aimed to gain in depth knowledge and understanding of the industry. I researched the
style, form, genre and identity of album covers, music videos and record labels. I found all media

The song is very emotive, with evocative lyrics. It was immediately clear to all of us that we should
extend these qualities into our video. We wanted to extend the meaning of the song through our media
productions, extending the viewer s involvement with and enjoyment of the band. We chose to
produce a music video, suitable for mainstream TV. Establishing band idenity The song has a clear
Indie style with its grungy guitar and vocals. It also has a very individual style and sound. We felt that
our band could be marketed as an Indie band brandishing a new style. Whilst the band would be very
stylised, its main concern is for it s music. The bands style would grow from their passion for their
music and are the muso type. It would be very bold and artistic with its other media productions just
as it is with its music. The band would not nesicerialy be a mainstream product but would have
mainstream appeal, similar to such bands as radio head and the white stripes. We decided that Bus
stop boxer would be the single release from the band s new album. Bus stop boxer would be the most
accessible song to a mainstream audience on the album. The song has a conventional popular form
with its intro, verses, chorus and getaur solos. Bus stop boxer also has a conventional indie style with

Centrust Bank Essay
CenTrust Bank Scandal
CenTrust, first called Dade Federal Savings and Loan, was founded in 1934 during the Great
Depression and eventually became a stalwart of the South Florida business establishment. By the early
1980s, Miami had a corporate community that any city would envy. The companies were large and
growing. They contributed mightily to local causes. They virtually invented a skyline where none
existed as late as the early 1980s. CenTrust Bank and David Paul gave huge sums of money and much
effort toward founding the New World Symphony in the 1980s. But the local corporate world was
shaken badly at that time. In South Florida, home of fragile physical, social and economic climates,
big business became an endangered species. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thrifts suffered more than mutual funds, because they were clogged with battered Drexel underwritten
issues.
The episode marks the first time a financial institution has been brought down primarily because of its
involvement in the junk bond market. CenTrust reported a $119.5 million loss for its fiscal year ended
Sept. 30, 1989, after writing down a ton of junk and reserving for losses. Under thrift rules, CenTrust
needs about $130 million of equity capital but currently has an equity shortage of $283 million.
After all this happen, CenTrust planned to sell most of its branches to raise capital and create a
separate unit to hold its junk until maturity to avoid turning accounting losses on bonds real losses.
Months later, they planned to merge with Hamilton Holding Co., but neither the sale of its branches
nor the merge gotten executed.
CenTrust Bank, the non operational Miami savings and loan that invested heavily in junk bonds, also
invested heavily in political candidates. The thrift s chairman, David Paul, also had dozens of
meetings and meals with politicians, most of them Democrats. The get togethers included a June 1988
lunch with former President Carter and seven meetings with Florida Rep. Bill Nelson, a member of
the Banking Committee.
Just how far CenTrust s fortunes had deteriorated became clear in December 1989, when the Office of
Thrift Supervision slapped a cease and desist order on the thrift, attacking its sloppy bookkeeping and

Similarities Between Emoticons And Emojis
Emojis, A History
Emojis the little picture messages that have worked their way into our devices, hearts, and to some
extent, our speech! Where did they come from? Furthermore, how did they take over? For that matter,
what even constitutes an emoji? Relatively few of us take the time consider these questions, despite
their central, all encompassing role in our daily lives. The answers, as will soon be discovered, are rich
and fascinating!
A tiny misnomer that needs to be clarified, before we go down the emoji rabbit hole, is that emojis are
not emoticons. These two terms are often interchangeably used, but they are in fact quite different!

The distinction between emoticons and emojis is actually fairly simple to ... Show more content on

Regardless of the fact that he invented the former, he believes that the latter lacks the same
imagination that spurred interesting emoticons. Furthermore, he briefly noted in Smiley Lore how it s
interesting to note that Microsoft and AOL now intercept these character strings and turn them into
little pictures. Personally, I think this destroys the whimsical element of the original.
The Father of Emoji: Shigetaka Kurita
About a decade after the birth of the emoticon, the first iteration of the emoji was created in Tokyo.
Pagers were booming in popularity amongst the youth in Japan, and the mobile device company NTT
Docomo decided to add a heart symbol to their Pocket Bell device. This allowed people to send a cute
picture message to their friends. Pocket Bell users loved this feature. However, when NTT Docomo
decided to market their devices to a more business friendly market, they abandoned their heart emoji
precursor. To say that the users were upset is an understatement. Imagine if Apple took a feature away
from the iPhone, and you hated the move so much that you actually switched phones. (We lose
features all the time, but we don t all feel as strongly about it). Users actually started to leave NTT
Docomo pagers, in favor of competitors that had adopted the heart symbol.
Enter Shigetaka Kurita a man working on a revolutionary project at NTT Docomo known as i mode.

A Case Study On South Florida Real Estate
7. A Case Study
Let s imagine you have to sell a rather expensive condo in Hallandale Beach, Florida, which is
essentially a middle class town right north of Miami with a splash of a luxury building here or there,
and you happen to have this property for sale in one of those luxury buildings with the market price
more than twice the average price around town. So, it is hard to think that a local interest would be
extremely high, plus you know that a neighbor s apartment has been sitting on the market with a local
real estate agent for a while without a good and solid offer, plus there is a bit of an issue with some
banks to approve mortgages for this building. It is really time to think of reaching foreign investors in

field www.google.ca in English. Oh, no luck either, the competition is also very tough. French
speaking Canadians from the province of Quebec love Florida and French at the same time. Searching
Canadian Google in French for immobilier à Hallandale Beach Floride (the translation that we got

choice for about five million French Canadians if they see your condo for sale in French posted by a
French speaking Canadian realtor. It could be the way to go. Canadian real estate prices had never
fallen along with American because of much stronger mortgage approval rules in Canada, and just a
couple of years ago Canadians used to borrow against their expensive homes in Canada to buy cheap
Florida homes for their future retirement with this cash. Now the Florida real estate prices are going

Disney Extravaganz The National Dance Alliance
What is the Disney extravaganza? The National Cheer Association and the National Dance Alliance
create the Disney extravaganza as one team. The National Cheer Association is abbreviated NCA. The
National Dance Alliance is known as the NDA. The Disney Extravaganza is only a small portion of a
big parade. This portion is a Christmas dance that is put on by a team made up of NCA and NDA
participants. The video of the dance is combined with smaller portions of the parade and the shows to
make one parade. The parade is seen by viewers on Christmas day. The parade is a magical experience
that brings the childhood enjoyment of Christmas back. All cheerleaders and dancers should get to be
a part of this event. The National Cheer Association, the National Dance Alliance, and Disney s
Extravaganza is an amazing experience because it is a widely viewed parade, a great accomplishment,
and it gives one the opportunity to meet others. The Disney parade is a popular event, like a football
game, that many see around the U.S. every year. The parade is aired on ABC on Christmas day. Every
Christmas families get together to watch the parade run its route. We all knew the children around the
U.S. looked forward to the parade all year long, and we are performing for them. Live fans watched
with such enjoyment as we performed the dance. The sidewalk is alive with excitement as fans stand

The Gap Between Blacks and Whites Test Scores
The Gap Between Blacks and Whites Test Scores
The gap as referred to in the title, is the distribution of the scores on achievement tests that differ
between black and white students in the United States. The purpose of this study was to record the
degree of the gap in achievement scores, decide how much of the racial gap is due to social class, how
the gap differed in the 30 year period, and how that which is credited to the social class has changed
over the years. Differences in social class, family structure, and discrimination against blacks as a
disgraced group are all proposed causes for the black white gap in test scores. If the gap is caused by a
difference in social class or family structure, then when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Answer: The authors compared the degree of the gaps before and after they adjusted for social class.
3. How have the gaps changed over time? Answer: The authors calculated the gaps from data in cross
sections over a 30 year period and studied the trend over time. 4. Is the portion of each gap that is
independent of social class changing over time? Answer: Yes, the authors contrasted the rate of change
over time in the social class adjusted gaps. These surveys give convincing evidence that the gaps have
decreased over time, but are still widely spread. The authors conclude that it would take over 50 years
to close the gap in reading achievement scores and over a century to close the gap in mathematics and
science achievement scores. The adjusted gaps for social class, family structure, and community
variables were closing from 1965 1992. At this rate of change over the entire period, they would close
in the same amount of time as the unadjusted gaps. The rate of change for the unadjusted gaps seem to
have reversed after 1972. These results do not give a lot of support to the theory that the gaps in
average test scores are caused by the differences in social class and family structure. Thus, it supports
the theory that the gaps in test scores are an outcome of other factors, such as discrimination.

reformer that was at that time was Luther, he influenced in some way to Calvin, they had different
point of view, Calvin learned a lot from Luther. The point that they have in common were the
Humanist side and they share also some doctrine. Some of the different way to think that they had are;
One of the most important disagree that they have is that Calvin believed that Christ died only for the

Science In The 1800 s
The modern synthesis is the explanation for the evolution of continuously varying traits that combines
the theory and empirical evidence of both Mendelian genetics and Darwinism (Boyd and Silk 2015:

Darwin and Gregor Mendel. Darwin managed to figure out how natural selection works and why
species tend to change over time. Darwin s theory of the three postulates helped explain how species
change. Mendel on the other hand was a scientist that studied plants and while studying plants had
figured out how inheritance works. When Mendel figured out how inheritance works on pea plants the
same process could work on how humans were evolved.

Charlie asked was whether the boy had problems at home and whether the boy s parents hit him or

denies his negative emotions. Moreover, Charlie is smart. Throughout the novel, he develops a deep

Likert s 4 System Approach was published in 1961, and Likert argues for what he considers is a

summarized into one of four systems. Each of these systems reflect a certain leadership style reflected
in an organization and they also consist of 7 dimensions. The seven dimensions are as follows;
employee motivation, the characterization of the communication process, the interaction influence

The Impacts And Benefits Of Ecotourism To Costa Rica
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impacts and benefits of ecotourism to Costa Rica in the
perspective of the environment, local community and development of tourism sustainability; the ways
ecotourism creates awareness of the importance of natural and cultural conservation; and the
prospective benefits and risks of ecotourism to Costa Rica in term of the local community, the

2.0 The Impacts and Benefits of Ecotourism to Costa Rica As tourism is clearly going mainstream in
Costa Rica currently, it must have leave an impacts to the country, be it an advantages or
disadvantages to the country.
2.1 Protection of Nature As mentioned earlier, in 1983, almost half of the woodland was cut down.
But when Costa Rica began the industry of ecotourism and build more national parks and wildlife
parks, the annual deforestation rate had dropped. In 1998 the deforestation rate had dropped to zero,
and currently, the forest cover has increased to more than 50%, which doubled from 1983 (Blasiak
2011). The expansion of the protected area of the country to 30% had saved many areas from being

Reasons To Be Allowed In Schools
Imagine that you are in school and you see someone stabbing or hacking into his computer. Your first
reaction is to tell a teacher or to ignore it. Students say is right to do all of this things but is not. I say

it keeps kids from getting hurt online. As stated earlier to why students processions may be searched at
any time is because it keep kids. The evidence to support this is that many students are prevented from
such intrusions like violation of personal rights. This means that one student might be doing
something very dangerous at school. For example, that might be that a student brought a knife to
school and no one knows. Well if the teachers had the right to look through the student things nothing

Mating habits are similar to all other bears. They have scent glands are their tail and they use it as a

were defined by cut outs and molds brought over to Europe by the Dutch. The first American

Summary Of The Inheritance Of Tools By Scott Russell Sanders
The Inheritance of Tools by Scott Russell Sanders is an essay written from the perspective of Sanders
in relation to his life struggles and the significance of the tools and trade that he has inherited from his
dead father. In this essay it is clear that Sanders is mourning the loss of his father. This creates a mood
that is very real and a tone in the essay of sadness but it never seems depressing. Its sad but in a good
way of remembering someone for their good qualities. The tone tells us that Sanders is glad that his
father taught him the things that he did. He is happy he has the physical items left behind by his father
that he uses to teach his children these same skills. There are many examples of figurative language in

After 395 A.D. the western empire had 23 emperors and the eastern empire from had 94 (List of
Roman Emperors.). There have been a lot of emperors of Rome each one with their strengths and
weaknesses and some better then others. A few will be remembered forever and others lost in
obscurity. Some of the most famous are, Augustus better known as Octavian who was the first
emperor of Rome,. Marius who reorganized the arm, and created the most effective fighting force on
the plaint. Julius Caesar who conquered the Gauls and took over Rome as a dictator. Nero the madman
of Rome who was most likely insane and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Antony tried to form his own senate and was planning to create a eastern empire with Cleopatra.
Octavian would not have this happen and declared war. Italy and the western provinces joined Rome
and in 31 B.C. Antony and Cleopatra were defeated in a naval battle but fled back to Egypt. Octavian
in 30 B.C. engaged Antony again in Egypt from land and sea and defeated his army. Both Antony and
Cleopatra committed suicide. With Egypt now under his control and all the lands he went throw
pledging loyalty to him Octavian was now the solo ruler of the entire Roman world.
Marius came from humble beginnings and was a military man before marrying Julia, making him the
uncle of Julius Caesar. He was not fond of protocol and had himself appointed the commander of all
African forces. Looking for soldiers he allowed the Roman poor to become soldiers. This was not the
practice of the day but unintentionally set in motion a radical change in the Roman military. He then
made quick work of the enemy in Africa with his new professionally trained army using new methods
introduced by Marius himself. However the northern border of Rome was failing and Rome looked to
Marius to save them. He did this with only two battles and saved Rome from the northern invaders.
With the northern threat gone he then created laws to give the veteran soldiers land after there time of
service was done. He also allowed Italian to be granted

Analysis Of Toni Morrison s Beloved
Throughout American history there have been multiple instances of inequality between races, classes,
and genders. Toni Morrison s novel Beloved is a story that truly shows how oppressive slavery was
during the setting of the book. Similarly to the inequality faced during the time of slavery, while
Morrison was writing the her novel the issue of women s equality was present, and being fought for.
Morrison, through Beloved, is able to show the world her views on inequality, and how it is still
present in life today. Morrison is African American, she was born into a family of four children with a
hard working father. He was primarily a welder, but also did other things to provide for the family. She
credits her parents for founding her love of reading and music. She lived in an integrated
neighborhood, but did not become aware of segregation until she was older. When she was in first
grade she was the only black child in her class, and she was also the only one who couldn t read, but
no one then thought less of her for this. Morrison kept pursuing her education, but she got married to a
man who she later was separated from, and he moved back to Jamaica. She was a single mother,
which is just like Sethe. Morrison takes care of her kids without much male influence which is a big
deal during 1980. Prior to beginning her Beloved, Morrison decided to leave her job. She was free of
her obligations for the first time after doing this. I was happy, free in a way I had never been,

The Literary Bound Of The Old Regime Analysis
The periodical press of Old Regime France was government controlled through censorship and the
demands for royal licenses to operate. As a result the periodicals of the time were bland and not
widely circulated. Government policies during this time fluctuated frequently as the controls on
domestic and foreign publication were closely monitored and censored. The chief accomplishment of
publications in the time of the Old Regime is largely associated with the Enlightenment and known as
the Encyclopedie by Denis Diderot, published between 1751 and 1772. The main political messages
of this time were enlightened ideas with the messages of great thinkers of the time permeating
periodicals and very little attacks, if any, on the establishments of ... Show more content on

These writers were hateful towards the literary aristocrats who dominated the republic of letters that
left them in a destitute life which forced them to turn cynical. There was privilege and monopolization
in production and distribution at the time, via privileged guilds and journals, that allowed the
privileged cultural elite to continue their domination of the writing realm. In Robert Darnton s The
Literary Undergound of the Old Regime he states his belief that the Republic of Letters was crowded
with poor devils, real men of flesh and blood, who struggled to sustain their miserable lives by doing
whatever odd jobs fell their way compiling anthologies, writing for journals, peddling manuscripts,
smuggling foreign books, and spying for the police. These seemingly insignificant publications were
successful at reaching a new literary public that was not addressed by the philosophes and the men of
letters. These works of the men in low literature represented and aggravated the existing tensions of
the time between the aristocrats and non aristocrats that we later see appear throughout the
Revolution. The crude pamphleteering of Grub Street was revolutionary in feeling as well as in
message. It expressed the passion of men who hated the Old Regime in their guts, who arched with
hatred of it. It was from such visceral hatred, not from the refined abstractions of the contented
cultural elite, that the extreme Jacobin revolution found its authentic voice. The revolutionary torch is
therefore passed from the elites in the world of philosophes down to the men of Grub Street as the
distribution of pamphlets, a very revolutionary medium, expressed the hatred of the Old Regime and
those who were proudly a part of

Narrative Essay On A Winter Night
On a cold Winter night two people lay to sleep. So far away but that would never stop the dreaming
and magic.
December 1,2003 Concord,Massachusetts Anna:
It s nighttime in Concord. I began to grow tired as the time progresses to 10:30 pm. I go up the stairs
leading to my room not knowing what is to come in this night slumber. I can only imagine what I
might dream. As I lay on my soft bedding cuddling up to my warm fuzzy blanket I began to doze off.
Just before I finally fall asleep I hear the train blow its whistle down the road from my house.
Dream Land: Where everyone s dreams come together. You tend to see people wandering around
aimlessly. In my dream I m jumping around from cloud to cloud tasting the water from them as I
jump. Flying in between. I continue for a few more minutes. I get tired from jumping so I decided to
fall from the clouds. I jumped from the clouds so that I could watch the twinkling stars. As I jump and
fall I m then greeted with a hard landing. I look to see what I landed on and it just so happened to be a
boy. I jump up surprised that I didn t squish him from how far I fell. I m sorry I didn t mean to land on
you, I said.
It s alright, it didn t hurt too much it just took me by surprise, the mysteries boy said.

Radish Seed Experiment Essay
For my seed experiment I had decided to see what the effect of sprinkling salt on a radish seed would
be. So for my control group I had set six (6) cherry radish seeds in between a damp paper towel and
then closed it within a Ziploc bag. For my experimental I had set it up the exact same way as the
control group but I would sprinkle salt on top of seeds before I zipped up the baggie. I sprinkled the
salt on the experimental seeds and dampened the paper towel once every day. Each bag was stored in
the light and at room temperature (~70° F.)
Before, I started I made a prediction for the experiment. I thought the salt on top of the seed and inside
the paper towel would soak up water and dehydrate the seed and make the paper towel go dryer

Nature Of Niccolo Machiavelli
Niccolò Machiavelli was born May third, 1469 in Florence, Italy to a well to do family and received
the typical education of the time. He later went on to become a politician, writing many well known
works such as The Art of War and the play The Mandrake. However his most well known piece of
writing is The Prince an important piece that gives a look into politics of the time period. His writing
which is very different from other works of this period often foregoes moral and ethics to show his
reader how to best gain power. Although his writing is considered controversial The Prince is an
extremely important piece of writing laying the base for modern western political systems.
1.According to Machiavelli s views on human nature he viewed humans as fundamentally evil.
Describing them as wicked, aggressive, self interested, stupid and so on. He pays little attention to the
common people. As his views them as complacent followers who will not stand in one s way to power
as long as they are kept happy. In Machiavelli s views it must be noted that men must either be
caressed or else destroyed, because they will revenge themselves for small injuries... (Machiavelli 12).
Tying back into Machiavelli s view on humans being self interested stating that unless appeased
people will retaliate against everything even the smallest of injustices.

The Vulnerability of Children in the Era of the Holocaust
Children were especially vulnerable in the era of the Holocaust. The Nazis advocated killing children
of unwanted or dangerous groups in accordance with their ideological views, either as part of the
racial struggle or as a measure of preventative security. The Germans and their collaborators killed
children both for these ideological reasons and in retaliation for real or alleged partisan attacks.
The Germans and their collaborators killed as many as 1.5 million children, including over a million
Jewish children and tens of thousands of Romani (Gypsy) children, German children with physical
and mental disabilities living in institutions, Polish children, and children residing in the occupied
Soviet Union. The chances for survival for Jewish and some non Jewish adolescents (13 18 years old)
were greater, as they could be deployed at forced labor.
The fate of Jewish and non Jewish children can be categorized in the following way: 1) children killed
when they arrived in killing centers; 2) children killed immediately after birth or in institutions; 3)
children born in ghettos and camps who survived because prisoners hid them; 4) children, usually over
age 12, who were used as laborers and as subjects of medical experiments; and 5) those children killed
during reprisal operations or so called anti partisan operations.
In the ghettos, Jewish children died from starvation and exposure as well as lack of adequate clothing
and shelter. The German authorities were

Therefore, if he gets this under control then he can deal with the other issues that he is dealing with. I
also assess that this drug problem is taking a major total on his body. Because, it is harming his body,

Nos faltan 43 (we are still missing 43), They took them alive, we want them back alive were some of
the phrases that Mexico used in their strikes to unify as a nation against the corrupt government. The
poem Buscábamos a 43 (We were looking for 43) by Jenaro Villamil, expresses the perspective of the
Mexican people. This poem presents the tragedy with a melancholic tone. This has not been the first
time that violent injustices occurred in Mexico, but this poem shows how this event led the mexican
people to realize in the violence and horror they live. Jenaro Villamil starts off the poem with the line
¿Cuánto horror seremos capaces de conocer? (1), which translates to, how much horror will we be
capable of knowing?, this expresses how much horror they have already experienced. This source
doesn t include any specific facts or dates about the tragedy, because it is a poem, but it does introduce
how the students are seen by Mexico, as young humble victims. The lines that I was more impacted by
that Jenaro Villamil says are: Porque aún con ellos vivos, sanos, salvos o heridos / No podemos callar
A los olvidados que sembramos, which means, because even with them alive, safe and sound, or
wounded, we cannot remain silent for the forgotten that we sowed. This segments of the poem
represent the reason why the mexican people protested, and keep protesting up to now, because even
though there are no signs of their bodies, they represent a part of the forgotten, who they are willing to

Why Is The Nuclear Bomb Justified
Have you ever thought that killing thousands of people could ever be justified? It may not seem like it

When we dropped the bombs we prevented over one thousand deaths, the death rate of the Japanese

Hinduism is the traditional religion of India. Sanatan Dharma is one of the oldest religions known to

Another belief is that though Hindu mythology mentions a class of evil beings, opposed to the
celestial spirits, essential Hindu philosophy does not believe in any concept of a central Devil or
Satan. This does not mean that all the evil in the world is attributed to God, but that the evil deed is
ascribed to human ignorance (Fisher, M. P., 2005). These actions determine the course of life and the
life cycle for the soul in its subsequent life. Virtuous actions take the soul closer to the Supreme
Divine, and lead to a birth with higher consciousness. Evil actions hinder this recognition of the
Supreme Divine, and the soul takes lower forms of worldly life. All existence, according to Hinduism,
from vegetation to mankind, is subjects to the eternal Dharma, which is the natural law

Essay on Hypochondriasis as A Mental Disorder
Hypochondriasis as A Mental Disorder
Headache = Tumor. Cough = Tuberculosis. Mole = Skin Cancer. Such is the thought process of a
hypochodriac. As defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IV (DSM IV), hypochondriasis is
an unrealistic interpretation of one s bodily sensations as abnormal, leading to the fear and belief that
one has a serious disease (1). This preoccupation with having a serious medical condition is one of the
somatoform disorders and may be considered more as a symptom than a disease. In fact,
hypochondriacal symptoms often appear as a part of other mental disorders, including forms of
depression or schizophrenia (2). For this reason, a close investigation of hypochondriacal behavior is

With numbers such as these, the issue of understanding more about these symptoms has become
important within the medical world. These pursuits have resulted in four etiologic theories regarding
hypochondriasis, a combination of which could hold the answers to this disorder.
The first of these theories relates to the amplification of normal bodily sensations, or when individuals
...attribute pathologic meanings to normal somatic sensations and functions. An example of this would
be to attribute swollen lymph nodes to a malignant disease, as opposed to a simple viral infection. The
consequences mostly affect the individual s psychological and behavioral well being, which leads to
the focus of the second theory. Based on Freud s psychodynamic hypotheses, there is a belief that
unconscious conflicts are the result of traumatic or frustrating childhood experiences being
reawakened in adult life by similar stress or frustration. Consequently, particularly high stress/tension
situations could arouse subconscious feelings of guilt, anxiety, and fear for a person, and their inability
to express these emotions verbally may lead to physical manifestations of conflict.
The remaining two theories take a more behavioral oriented approach. The third

Feminism And The Second Wave Feminism
There was a strong and invigorated feminists movement in America from 1960s into the 1980s which
was later spread into Europe and parts of Asia. Compare to first wave feminism in which advocates
sought for women suffrage, this feminist movement, which had a broader and deeper influence,
focused on dealing with issues which hindered legal sexual equality, rights to reproduce as well as
family roles. This feminism movement is named the Second wave feminism. It was politically
powerful and influential that it obtained significant gains including the pass of the Equal Pay Act in
1963, Title IX of the Educational Amendments in 1972 (Title IX prohibited discrimination by sex in
educational program or activity receiving federal financial assistance), and in 1973, the Roe v. Wade
case which disallowed state laws prohibiting abortion during the first three month of pregnancy, and
slowly equalized the balance between two genders in workforce positions. Women gain tremendous
power: women s share of lawyers more than quadrupled, of economists more than tripled, and of
police detectives more than doubled. This women s movement opened up public discussion of issues
previously seen in the grey area , and therefore out of the reach of public scrutiny. In the mean time,
the Congress sent the Equal Rights Amendment(ERA), which would benefit women, to the states for
ratification on March 22, 1972. Within a year, thirty states had ratified the ERA.

about the story
I Am Sam is a powerful, emotional film about love, parenthood and the bonds of family. I m
fascinated by what makes a family and how people create that in untraditional ways, says director and
co screenwriter Jessie Nelson. I think all parents at times feel confused and overwhelmed. It is a
common bond between every parent on the planet, whether you re disabled or not. Parents who are
disabled provide a unique metaphor for how we re all trying to get through an incredibly challenging
world and how we all ultimately need some type of support system.
Raising a child is never easy, but like everybody, Sam Dawson (Academy Award nominee Sean Penn)
has learned to adapt. Sam and his daughter Lucy (Dakota Fanning) have gotten through the basics,
though not always in the conventional way, with the help of Sam s tightly knit group of friends.

with humor and full of love.

swimming in freshwater lakes and streams, and against eating certain foods. The risks for contracting

  • 2. Brain Ischemia Essay The blood brain barrier (BBB) is a metabolic and physical barrier between the central nervous system and the brain blood flow (1). The correct functioning of the BBB is crucial for keeping brain homeostasis and avoiding many poisons and pathogens (2). During cerebral ischemia, BBB disruption is a crucial event that induces an influx of water, resulting in vasogenic edema (3), and causes supplementary brain harm such as dementia through accumulation of beta amyloid peptide (4). Brain edema aggravates the development of infarct development and causes herniation and loss of life (5). It s been reported that reactive oxygen species (ROS) exert deleterious activities, such as BBB disruption and BBB hyperpermeability, during vasogenic edema (6). ... Matricaria chamomilla can be an aroma herb with anticancer, antioxidant, and anti inflammatory properties (11), is an important source of dietary antioxidants (12). Various studies show that matricaria chamomilla is associated with several health advantages such as antioxidants (13), and cancer (14). However, to the best of our knowledge, little is well known about the result of matricaria chamomilla extract on BBB dysfunction during brain ischemia. I was required to work in a group to produce a 3 minute trailer for a new horror/thriller movie. In my A2 advanced production my brief was to work within a group in order to produce a promotional package to introduce a new band into the mainstream music industry. The package could take any form, using a variety of medias. We started the project by doing individual research into the music industry. Through my research I aimed to gain in depth knowledge and understanding of the industry. I researched the style, form, genre and identity of album covers, music videos and record labels. It was immediately clear to all of us that we should extend these qualities into our video. We wanted to extend the meaning of the song through our media productions, extending the viewer s involvement with and enjoyment of the band. We chose to produce a music video, suitable for mainstream TV. Establishing band idenity The song has a clear Indie style with its grungy guitar and vocals. It also has a very individual style and sound. We felt that our band could be marketed as an Indie band brandishing a new style. Whilst the band would be very stylised, its main concern is for it s music. The bands style would grow from their passion for their music and are the muso type. It would be very bold and artistic with its other media productions just as it is with its music. The band would not nesicerialy be a mainstream product but would have mainstream appeal, similar to such bands as radio head and the white stripes. We decided that Bus stop boxer would be the single release from the band s new album. Bus stop boxer would be the most accessible song to a mainstream audience on the album. Centrust Bank Essay CenTrust Bank Scandal CenTrust, first called Dade Federal Savings and Loan, was founded in 1934 during the Great Depression and eventually became a stalwart of the South Florida business establishment. By the early 1980s, Miami had a corporate community that any city would envy. The companies were large and growing. They contributed mightily to local causes. They virtually invented a skyline where none existed as late as the early 1980s. CenTrust Bank and David Paul gave huge sums of money and much effort toward founding the New World Symphony in the 1980s. But the local corporate world was shaken badly at that time. In South Florida, home of fragile physical, social and economic climates, big business became an endangered species. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thrifts suffered more than mutual funds, because they were clogged with battered Drexel underwritten issues. The episode marks the first time a financial institution has been brought down primarily because of its involvement in the junk bond market. CenTrust reported a $119.5 million loss for its fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 1989, after writing down a ton of junk and reserving for losses. Under thrift rules, CenTrust needs about $130 million of equity capital but currently has an equity shortage of $283 million. After all this happen, CenTrust planned to sell most of its branches to raise capital and create a separate unit to hold its junk until maturity to avoid turning accounting losses on bonds real losses. Months later, they planned to merge with Hamilton Holding Co., but neither the sale of its branches nor the merge gotten executed. CenTrust Bank, the non operational Miami savings and loan that invested heavily in junk bonds, also invested heavily in political candidates. The thrift s chairman, David Paul, also had dozens of meetings and meals with politicians, most of them Democrats. The get togethers included a June 1988 lunch with former President Carter and seven meetings with Florida Rep. Bill Nelson, a member of the Banking Committee. Where did they come from? Furthermore, how did they take over? For that matter, what even constitutes an emoji? Relatively few of us take the time consider these questions, despite their central, all encompassing role in our daily lives. The answers, as will soon be discovered, are rich and fascinating! A tiny misnomer that needs to be clarified, before we go down the emoji rabbit hole, is that emojis are not emoticons. These two terms are often interchangeably used, but they are in fact quite different! Emoticons VS Emojis The distinction between emoticons and emojis is actually fairly simple to ... Furthermore, he briefly noted in Smiley Lore how it s interesting to note that Microsoft and AOL now intercept these character strings and turn them into little pictures. Personally, I think this destroys the whimsical element of the original. The Father of Emoji: Shigetaka Kurita About a decade after the birth of the emoticon, the first iteration of the emoji was created in Tokyo. Pagers were booming in popularity amongst the youth in Japan, and the mobile device company NTT Docomo decided to add a heart symbol to their Pocket Bell device. This allowed people to send a cute picture message to their friends. Pocket Bell users loved this feature. However, when NTT Docomo decided to market their devices to a more business friendly market, they abandoned their heart emoji precursor. To say that the users were upset is an understatement. Imagine if Apple took a feature away from the iPhone, and you hated the move so much that you actually switched phones. (We lose features all the time, but we don t all feel as strongly about it). Users actually started to leave NTT Docomo pagers, in favor of competitors that had adopted the heart symbol. So, it is hard to think that a local interest would be extremely high, plus you know that a neighbor s apartment has been sitting on the market with a local real estate agent for a while without a good and solid offer, plus there is a bit of an issue with some banks to approve mortgages for this building. The Gap Between Blacks and Whites Test Scores The Gap Between Blacks and Whites Test Scores The gap as referred to in the title, is the distribution of the scores on achievement tests that differ between black and white students in the United States. The purpose of this study was to record the degree of the gap in achievement scores, decide how much of the racial gap is due to social class, how the gap differed in the 30 year period, and how that which is credited to the social class has changed over the years. Differences in social class, family structure, and discrimination against blacks as a disgraced group are all proposed causes for the black white gap in test scores. Answer: The authors compared the degree of the gaps before and after they adjusted for social class. 3. How have the gaps changed over time? Answer: The authors calculated the gaps from data in cross sections over a 30 year period and studied the trend over time. 4. Is the portion of each gap that is independent of social class changing over time? Answer: Yes, the authors contrasted the rate of change over time in the social class adjusted gaps. These surveys give convincing evidence that the gaps have decreased over time, but are still widely spread. The authors conclude that it would take over 50 years to close the gap in reading achievement scores and over a century to close the gap in mathematics and science achievement scores. The adjusted gaps for social class, family structure, and community variables were closing from 1965 1992. At this rate of change over the entire period, they would close in the same amount of time as the unadjusted gaps. The rate of change for the unadjusted gaps seem to have reversed after 1972. These results do not give a lot of support to the theory that the gaps in average test scores are caused by the differences in social class and family structure. Thus, it supports the theory that the gaps in test scores are an outcome of other factors, such as discrimination. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was privilege and monopolization in production and distribution at the time, via privileged guilds and journals, that allowed the privileged cultural elite to continue their domination of the writing realm. In Robert Darnton s The Literary Undergound of the Old Regime he states his belief that the Republic of Letters was crowded with poor devils, real men of flesh and blood, who struggled to sustain their miserable lives by doing whatever odd jobs fell their way compiling anthologies, writing for journals, peddling manuscripts, smuggling foreign books, and spying for the police. These seemingly insignificant publications were successful at reaching a new literary public that was not addressed by the philosophes and the men of letters. These works of the men in low literature represented and aggravated the existing tensions of the time between the aristocrats and non aristocrats that we later see appear throughout the Revolution. The crude pamphleteering of Grub Street was revolutionary in feeling as well as in message. It expressed the passion of men who hated the Old Regime in their guts, who arched with hatred of it. It was from such visceral hatred, not from the refined abstractions of the contented cultural elite, that the extreme Jacobin revolution found its authentic voice. The Nazis advocated killing children of unwanted or dangerous groups in accordance with their ideological views, either as part of the racial struggle or as a measure of preventative security. The Germans and their collaborators killed children both for these ideological reasons and in retaliation for real or alleged partisan attacks. The Germans and their collaborators killed as many as 1.5 million children, including over a million Jewish children and tens of thousands of Romani (Gypsy) children, German children with physical and mental disabilities living in institutions, Polish children, and children residing in the occupied Soviet Union. The chances for survival for Jewish and some non Jewish adolescents (13 18 years old) were greater, as they could be deployed at forced labor. The fate of Jewish and non Jewish children can be categorized in the following way: 1) children killed when they arrived in killing centers; 2) children killed immediately after birth or in institutions; 3) children born in ghettos and camps who survived because prisoners hid them; 4) children, usually over age 12, who were used as laborers and as subjects of medical experiments; and 5) those children killed during reprisal operations or so called anti partisan operations. The poem Buscábamos a 43 (We were looking for 43) by Jenaro Villamil, expresses the perspective of the Mexican people. This poem presents the tragedy with a melancholic tone. This has not been the first time that violent injustices occurred in Mexico, but this poem shows how this event led the mexican people to realize in the violence and horror they live. Jenaro Villamil starts off the poem with the line ¿Cuánto horror seremos capaces de conocer? This source doesn t include any specific facts or dates about the tragedy, because it is a poem, but it does introduce how the students are seen by Mexico, as young humble victims.
