Realism In Tony Kushner s Angels In America
Angels in America: Millennium Approaches by Tony Kushner can be conventionally defined as a
work of Theatricalism. Breaking the preconceived notions of theatre such as gender casting, fluent
scenes, and varying extremes ranging from characters, to visuals, to the introduction of historical
figures. However, the work strikes a note of realism. We find ourselves encompassed by passionate
actors sharing real emotions with us, scenes based in historical events, and characters placed in events
that we then find to be our own realities. While we find our realities to be true and heightened by those
in the work could it be possible that some of these characters realities are in fact false, or being
defined by the theatricality that surrounds them? Harper serves as an emotionally charged wife to Joe,
who questions not only his sexuality, but her purpose as a wife. A close read of the play begs ... Show

At first she does not put a name to the place, but a description: Anywhere. Faraway (2.9 p83 Kushner)
and a bit later when she is in this place, I... Feel better. There are ice crystals in my lungs, wonderful
and sharp. (3.3 p105 Kushner) We see that for Harper being away from Joe results in distance and the
loss of warmth, which we normally relate to death. She has died, a part of Joe has died. What can help
to reaffirm her as Joe s moral guide, or compass is that shortly after we see Harper in her cold place
Joe commits what we know to be his first sexual act with a man. His values have died. (3.7 p121
Kushner) Within in her cold place Harper further has the ability to create it s bounds and limitations,
which is unique and signifies that she is other worldly. While Mr.Lies tells her they are in Antarctica,
she constantly defies what he states to be facts, what she says becomes the reality of the place.
Something that no other character in the play has yet to do. (3.3 p107

Public Health Nutrition Personal Statement
Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to do something special in life. I was born in a small
village in Mexico where public health and education were very limited. In 1996, my family and I got
the opportunity to move to the United States. This move brought me closer than I had ever thought
possible to accomplishing my dream of becoming a registered dietitian and working in public health
nutrition. I have always valued my education because where I am from it was really difficult to study
beyond middle school. Here, in the United States, I have gotten the chance to further my education
beyond high school.
In 2009, I became a U.S. citizen and enrolled in Pellissippi State Community College (PSCC) where I
acquired my Associates in Science degree. While at PSCC, I had the chance to study abroad and
volunteer in Segovia, Spain, where I taught English to elementary school children. I also assisted the
nurses at Los Hermanos Franciscanos de la Cruz Blanca, a center for the poor and disabled, where I
helped with patient care, feedings, daily exercises and workshops. I really enjoyed working with
people that cared about others health and well being. It was a life changing experience. ... Show more

(EAP). This was formerly known as the McNair Program. In 2014, I enrolled in their Summer
Research Institute which enabled me to participate in research for the first time. This position helped
me improve my writing skills, increased my oral communication skills and confidence, as well as
introduced me to one of my mentors, Dr. Katie Kavanagh, with whom I have continued working. I
was also able to attend the 21st Annual McNair Conference and had the chance to meet many
scholars. I can honestly say my participation in the EAP has contributed greatly to my academic

Reflection On Nutrition
There was a tremendous amount of effort that went in to the process of carrying out my behavior
change in a successful manor. I had to rely on sheer dedication, will power and trust in appropriate
programing in order to continuously make progress. I have found that there is no substitute for being
willing to do little tasks consistently, for these tasks later yield large results. To ensure that I was going
to maximize my potential of reaching my goal of gaining 2 3.5 lbs. of lean body mass, then I was
going to need to have a detailed plan from the beginning. In order to provide adequate programing, I
decided to seek knowledge from an experienced personal trainer. I did not have to go far as my mother
has over 25 years of experience in the fitness world, and specifically personal training. Together we
came up with a program that would allow for maximum muscular hypertrophy and strength increase,
by carefully delegating the stimulation of training sessions and appropriate recovery. I then evaluated
what I was going to need to consume in regards of nutrition. Assessing the appropriate amount of each
nutrient was another key factor that I had to evaluate and then enforce into my daily life. Through
these implementations there was a clear roadmap that would guide me to the end result I was seeking.
With a clear vision and guide in place, the ability to carry out and complete all the prescribed actions.
This is something that I did not find to be as easy as I had anticipated. It

Social Learning And Constructivism Theory
Social Learning and Constructivism
Learning is described as a process by which behavior changes as a result of experience. According to
Merriam and Cafarella (1991), there are five theories/orientations to learning, two of which will be
compared in this paper; social learning theory and constructivism theory.
Social Learning Theory
Regarding social learning, this theory explains the individual learning process, the formation of one s
identity and, how individuals learn by observing others in a social setting. Known as the bridge
between behaviorist and cognitive learning theories, it incorporates some aspects of behaviorist and
cognitive frameworks (Taylor, et al., 2000. para. 7). As stated by Psychologist Albert Bandura (1986,
1988), Most human behavior is learned observationally through modeling: from observing others, one
forms an idea of how new behaviors are performed, and on later occasions this coded information
serves as a guide for action. Effective modeling teaches general rules and strategies for dealing with
different situations. (Bandura). Concerning social learning, in regards to the role of an instructor, he or
she has to be an appropriate model, equip their students to self regulate, self monitor, self correct, and
properly self monitor (Ellis, n.d.). An instructor needs to be a positive influence, a mentor, and
understand how his or her behaviors affect others. They must inspire and teach by example, encourage
teamwork, and support the growth and

Compare And Contrast Why And Thirteen Reasons Why
Suicide is the leading cause of death for people ages 10 24. More teenagers and young adults die from
suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza, and chronic
lung disease, combined. Phoebe Prince and Hannah Baker are both apart of those devastating
statistics. Hannah Baker is a character in Jay Asher s book Thirteen Reasons Why whereas, Phoebe
Prince is a girl from South Hadley, Massachusetts. These two girls stories are very much alike, but
there are also very different. Phoebe Prince is a girl who moved from Ireland to South Hadley,
Massachusetts. Phoebe was a new student at her high school and was having a hard time fitting in
there because of the other students bulling her. One of her friends knew about the bulling and Phoebe
also told her family who notified the school and yet, they did nothing about it. The unpleasant students
continued bulling her and labeled her. The label she acquired, allowed the other students to continue to

Workplace Observation Essay
In the workplace there are many different aspects of the organization. Some of the aspects or culture
of an organization are organizational diversity, dress and language, how communication flows, and
organizational policies. Below I will discuss several aspects of the company I work for and define
what the different cultures are.
How Communication Flows
As we know today there are many ways how to communicate. There is email, verbal, Internet,
intranet, etc? However, there is only two ways communications flows. There is upward
communication defined as ?communication from an employee to supervisor, supervisor to department
head, department head to vice president, and so on.? (Abbott 2005) The other flow is downward
communication, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my organization all the different departments of the company contribute to the Policies manual. The
policy is reviewed yearly, and addendums are made. The IT dept which is the department I am in, add
to the policy?s about Internet Usage, Email usage, storage sizes of the mailboxes etc.. We clearly state
that anything, is done on the company?s computer is subject to monitoring. In many cases mangers
advise that they want a specific employee?s Internet monitored, or email monitored. We then report
back to the manger that requested it, and they take it up with Human Resources. Our rule is that a
county manager has to request it, and has to be good reasoning. Other departments, like the legal
counsel talk about arbitration, before going to any courts. The accounting dept talks about fraud, the
human resource department talks about attendance, and leave of absences, benefits etc? you get the
idea. As you can see this easily answers many question when a new employee comes on board.
Dress and Language
The Dress code is usually defined in the policy handbook to clearly state what is expected of the
employee. There is no standard set, however, in a business environment it?s expected that women and
men dress in a formal manner shirts, slacks, ties, etc? In a restaurant they may have a uniform, at the
mall it may be that stores clothing in

Good And Evil In John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
East of Eden is a book about the skirmish between good and evil, and about having the choice to be
able to pick. The struggle between good and evil is constantly shown throughout the story. It begins
with a father named Cyrus who is incapable of showing admiration towards his sons and telling the
truth. His two sons, Adam and Charles are two completely different people. Adam represents good and
innocence and Charles symbolizes evil and malice. Steinbeck says, Maybe we all have in us a secret
pond where evil and ugly things germinate and grow strong. But Culture is fenced, and the swimming
brood climbs up only to fall back. Might it not be that in the dark pools of some men the evil grows
strong enough to wiggle over the fence and swim free. (13.2.3) This quote is significant because it
clearly states, the theme in saying that in every person there is some evil inside of us, but only bad

what appears to be a perplexed state of mind. The police car is magnified to only show the top half

professional attire, his badge, and hat. A radio is placed on his left shoulder above his badge. He
appears to be on duty. The officer has one hand positioned on his hip while the other hand is relaxed

First, the artist, Kerry James Marshall, is of African American ethnicity. Modernism art is seen as
white, male dominated, and uninterested in minorities where as POMO switches to more feminist and

representation of an African American in a police uniform rather than drawing a Caucasian officer.
The artist also uses codes. This is displayed through the badge the officer is wearing. The badge is an
identifier; every officer wears one but each badge is specific to one officer. The badge is symbolic of
uniqueness and individuality which helps reinforce the artist s theme. The number written on the
badge is not easily determined in the portrait. The artist s description verbalizes the reasoning for
creating the portrait. Marshall states the portrait was a response to the many African Americans killed
by armed policemen throughout the United States. The previously stated is an example of POMO
because current events influenced the creation of the artwork. Several aspects previously mentioned

The Role Of Poetry In The Bard By James Thomson And Thomas...
The role of the poet is constructed through various means within the poetry of the eighteenth century.
This essay shall James Thomson and Thomas Gray in their construction of the role of the poet.
Thomson s Spring conveys the role of the poet as being multifaceted. Contrary to this, Gray
establishes the role of the poet as one of isolation and being an outsider whilst expressing anxiety over
the declining role of the poet, as seen in The Bard . To begin, this essay shall examine the forms used
by the poets. Thomson makes of the Miltonic blank verse. By doing this, the role of the poet is
conveyed as multifaceted as a range of subjects are discussed. Gray uses the form of the Pindaric ode
in order to establish the idea of the poet being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ode was considered to create distance between the poet and the audience (Zionkowski, pg334).
This is conveyed through the emotional complexity of the ode. The ode works in the genre of both
eulogy, as the bard is in mourning, and exulting through the victory of the bard in the end. However,
the reader is unable to sympathise with the bard figure which creates a distance between both reader
and poet. The emotion is more than mourning. The poet is mourning over the loss of his own
community, the Welsh bards, and is the last of his kind. The reader is unable to connect emotionally
with the bard as the reader has not experienced this type of loss. Thus distance is created, leading to
the poet being isolated. This then aids in turning the audience into a passive object much like Edward
and his army is passive in the bard s prophecy (Zionkowski, pg345). Thus, the role of the poet
becomes one of distance from the readership, placing the audience as being passive. Thus through the
form, the role of the poet is constructed. By placing themselves in a literary tradition, Thomson and
Gray highlight a deep lineage the poet has. The role of the poet, therefore, is part of a larger history
and tradition. Furthermore, Thomson is able to construct the role of the poet as being multifaceted as
the freedom of the Miltonic blank verse allows him to cover various subjects. The use of Pindaric ode
creates distance between the poet and reader. This is due to the deep emotional complexity of the
subject matter which the reader cannot sympathise with. Thus, the audience is kept at a distance,
unable to interact with the text. The poem is then only author centered (Zionkowski,

The Rise Of Silicon Valley
Silicon Valley has always been a place of constant economic change. Huge booms and then sudden
busts are not only common, but they re almost predictable. It s becoming easier to observe and
evaluate past crashes and use this knowledge to predict future busts in the valley. The huge jump in
the number of tech startups recently has been attracting an increasing amount of attention from
investors who are looking for make it big. Due to this as well as other factors, these companies are
becoming overvalued, causing a tech bubble that will soon burst.
The economic history of Silicon Valley is far from smooth. The Valley has survived the outrageous
fortunes of the military industrial complex in the 70s, the silicon wafer business in the 80s, and the
personal computer in the 90s, which are all either dead, gone overseas, or now established and boring.
One of the more famous events, the dot com boom in the late 1990s to 2000s, left many with a feeling
of helplessness for the future of the valley. The sudden growth of the internet resulted in venture
capitalists seeing record setting growth as dot com companies experienced abnormal rises in their
stock prices and therefore moved faster and with less caution than usual, thus resulting in a tech
bubble that burst, leaving investors floundered.
One thing is for certain, if there is one thing that Silicon Valley is good at, it s recovering from hard
times like these. It seems that no matter how hard of a fall it might take, it s able

Individualism Individualism
TShifting to a more contemporary lense, Libertarian s ultimate priority of individual rights has
evolved in present day America into a set of supplementary values called individualism. Although this
principle is never mentioned in Hospers paper, his positions stated on personal liberties and self
preservation serve as the foundation for this idea, which extends these rights to be applicable as a
lifestyle where every decision is made strictly for someone s own personal benefit. (Boaz)
Unsurprisingly, individualism also entails a resistance to all type of restrictive measures by
authoritative powers, especially the obligation to provide assistance to another citizen financially or
otherwise. (Boaz) In the Libertarian view, nobody should be forced to even tell someone the time of
day if requested against their will. (Hospers, 331) In this sense, Individualism can be seen as the active
exercise one s individual liberties. Furthermore, according to David Boaz of the Libertarian think tank
The Cato Institute, individualism also gives a person the power to flourish on their own terms, and can
also provide a sense of dignity , especially to underrepresented groups. (Boaz)
Whether or not by design, this Libertarian emphasis on individualism is a theme that has become
heavily ingrained into contemporary American life as the culture, economics, and politics of the
country all have elements of this value. In fact, according to a recent Pew research study, U.S. citizens

How Did The Thirteen Years Of Prohibition Lead To The Rise...
Why, and to what extent did the thirteen years of prohibition lead to the rise of organized crime in
America?
From the year 1920 to the year 1933, the United States of America implemented a nationwide
constitutional ban. Under this ban, the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors
within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States [source 2] was
illegal. Prohibition was brought into effect due to a movement from dry crusaders. These crusaders
saw alcohol as a plague in America, and wanted this plague to be wiped out. They believed the alcohol
ban would improve the economy and decrease crime rates. However, the opposite of this proved true
prohibition had many adverse effects on both American economy and society. Alcohol consumption
rose, economy declined, and, of most significance for America, organized crime grew. In this essay I

prohibition was widely disregarded and looked down upon by ordinary Americans. There was a high
demand for alcohol, but owing to its illegality, it was hard to come by. This problem was solved by
criminals, later known as bootleggers, who saw their opportunity to strike gold. They were happy to

The Crest product line includes toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, whitening products, and

Finally, with the knowledge that as people travel they may forget to pack their dental hygiene
products, they may also make it available in hotel gift shops across the world.
Deciding a price for the product is a very important step. If the price is too high, consumers may opt
for the less expensive alternative, even though Crest has such a strong, longstanding tradition. Setting
the price too low may make consumers wonder why the leader in oral care is selling their products
lower than others, and may opt for another option due to a discombobulating combination of a trusted
product and a lower than average price. Therefore, a price slightly above average would be the best
option, as it would relay to consumers that it is a leader in the industry that should be strongly
considered, and the difference in price would reflect added value. Finally, as oral care is an inelastic
product, as the economy changes the price may fluctuate and the demand should not be affected.
Lastly, Proctor and Gamble must decide how to promote the product. As they are credited for the
scientific breakthrough of the effects of fluoride on cavity and tooth decay prevention, P G should
certainly make this known. This will create a general respect for the product, and a strong sense of
trust. Visual advertisements are a strong force that should be considered. Television commercials

Car Audio History
There are many jobs that involve electrical circuits, such as: a car audio technician, an electrician, and
an instrumentation technician. Though these jobs may be different, they all have one common thing
between them: they all involve electrical circuits. Let s first talk about a car audio technician. Car
audio has come a long way since the first commercial radio, the Model 5T71, released in 1930. Car
audio has evolved from just the basic AM receiver with a speaker, to a more complex system. Radios
today have multiple ways of listening to music, such as: the radio, itself, CD players, iPods, USB flash
drives, SD cards, and Bluetooth. Every car audio system has three basics parts to it: the head unit (the
radio), an amplifier, and the speakers. When the head unit first came out the only source for audio was
AM radio. Many years later, FM radio, 8 track, and cassettes came out. Many head units today come
stock with CD players and FM radio. Some factory head units can even receive satellite radio. Many
cars now come with Bluetooth, navigation, and various ports for connecting a music player, such as an
aux port and USB port. Most head units offer the ability to adjust the tone of the audio coming out of

lastly, the subwoofer (lows). The subwoofer can produce audio as low as 20 hertz. The way all of
these components works is that the amplifier is connected to the car battery, which provides power, the
amplifier is also connected to the radio, which sends a signal to the amp, telling the speakers what

Gender Orientation And Sexual Orientation
Did you know that gay men and lesbians do not choose their sexual orientation, but rather are born
with it? There has been extensive research proving that sexual orientation is caused by many
biological factors, whereas there is no solid proof that social factors after birth affect sexual
orientation (Swaab, 2007, p. 442). Sexual orientation is already programmed into the brain, with the
influence of sex hormones and genes, before a child is even born. The development of sexual
orientation is caused by sex hormones, genes, and the brain, which then cause differences in the
anatomical body (LeVay, 2011, p.271). Firstly, sex hormones that mainly influence a person s sexual
orientation are the levels of testosterone during critical periods of prenatal development (LeVay, 2011,
p. 132). If androgen insensitivity syndrome occurs in individuals with XY chromosomes, the gene
coding for the androgen receptor is mutated, causing the receptor to either barely function, or not at all
(LeVay, 2011, p. 137). This causes their body to not respond to testosterone, so they begin to develop

Universal Basic Income Analysis
Implementing a universal basic income in Canada would give disadvantaged groups greater equality
in society by giving them more power and freedom in their lives. Because of its unconditionally, it
would create less pressure on women to remain in unpleasant or degrading jobs and allow them to
pursue the career or lifestyle of their choosing. Basic income tends to have some political support
across the ideological spectrum but, each ideology amends the context and design in which they

They believe that basic income would take the place of governments current state of paternalism, it
would be more cost effective than the welfare state and it limits the power of the government because
the people would have more money to do with as they choose. Citizens can buy property and invest
their money without having to go through lengthy governmental processes. This creates a limitation of
governments reach into citizen s personal affairs and gives them the negative liberty that libertarians
desire. It would allow citizens to be free from governmental interference in their everyday lives
because people could make their own decisions on how to deal with their property. The ideology
believes that liberty was negative liberty freedom from coercion or invasion of the government and
this leads them to support basic income because it creates more negative freedom by distancing people
from the government. People can do what they want in their personal or work life and they are free
from interference because of the unconditional income that cannot be taken away. This income can be

Comparing Kipling s Invictus And If
Invictus (1888) written by William Ernest Henley, and If (1910) written by Rudyard Kipling, are two
texts dealing with similar content, that use different styles to help us understand the common theme of
living life to the fullest. Invictus explores the main idea of not giving up despite the hardships that
come in your way. You can overcome them with perseverance and knowing that only you can control
your fate. If is advice on how to lead a good life. It is an inspiring yet cautionary poem on how we
should conduct ourselves in certain situations.
Invictus is a poem about going through hard times and getting through them with passion and
defiance. Henley explores the theme in the first stanza with, Out of the night that covers me, uses ...

Throughout the whole poem, Kipling uses iambic pentameter to keep a constant rhythm that is very
calming. Another technique is the use of enjambment throughout the poem which makes it seem as if
it is one collective thought. There is never really an ending until the exclamation mark at the end.
Kipling s selection of words is simple and suit the poem, especially after discovering that the poem
was written for his son, And which is more you ll be a Man, my son! Repetition of words such as If
are constantly used to create suspense for every new scene and keeps the audience at the edge of their
seats to find out what happens. The repetitive use of you establishes a connection between the poet
and the audience. It also makes them feel inspired, as if the poem is directed to them so they feel like

pollutants on groundwater as well as mimic the filtration process utilized by wastewater treatment
facilities.

#7 Beaker
My water is about the same color as beaker 6 but has a light vinegar smell and soil smell. The water

#8 Beaker
My water is very foggy and a darker olive green color but smells very clean. My water also has a lot
more particles present in the bottom of the beaker.
The rough draft of the results section should include all tables used in your experiment. All values
within the tables should be in numerical form and contain units. For instance, if measuring the amount
of chloride in water you should report as 2 mg/L or 0 mg/L not as two or none.
Body Paragraph # 1: The rough draft of the results section should also describe important results in
paragraph form, referring to the appropriate tables when mentioned. This section should only state the
results as no personal opinions should be included. A description of what the results really mean
should be saved for the discussion. For example, you may report, 0mg/L of chlorine were found in the
water, but should avoid personal opinions and interpretations such as, no chlorine was found in the
water showing it is cleaner than the others samples.

Essay On Should Student Athletes Be Paid
Student Athletes Should be Compensated
Life isn t fair, but we all know that. Instead of the athletes sharing in the revenue they create, it s just
the fat cats who benefit. The NCAA has multiple billions of dollars in revenue every year. but the
athletes don t see a pretty penny of that. Lots of people believe that college athletes should not be
compensated monetarily. by the means of money. They think that a scholarship is enough
compensation for the athlete s work. However, But what people do not know is that not all athletes get
scholarships, and not all scholarships include things like food and clothes. So college athletes should
be paid extra money for three reasons: the players put in lots of work, the NCAA makes billions of
dollars every year, and the NCAA acts as an employer. Your topic sentence should reflect the words

That is why they should be compensated; so they could have a little extra spending money for food
and other things. The athletes should just get about $1000 $1500 per semester that they are active in a
sport. That would give them a good amount to spend on food and whatever else they want. So out of
the $771 million, which does not include all of the revenue from the schools, and the 460,000 athletes
(ncaa), that would only cost $690 million. That leaves about $80 million left to pay the executives.
Because the NCAA acts as an employer, makes a ton of money, and for all of the time and work the
athletes put in, they should be paid. That s only about $1000 for food and other costs for the semesters
that they are playing a sport. The players are unable to have any other income in those times, so it is

Clinical manifestations of miliary tuberculosis are nonspecific and wide ranging, depends on the
predominant site of involvement. Fever, night sweats, anorexia, weakness and weight loss are
presenting symptoms in the majority of cases. Occurrence of daily morning temperature spikes is
reported to be characteristic of miliary TB5. Patients have cough and other respiratory symptoms due
to pulmonary involvement. Physical findings include hepatomegaly, splenomegaly and
lymphadenopathy. Eye examination may reveal choroidal tubercles, which are pathognomic of miliary
TB, in up to 30% of cases. Various hematologic abnormalities may be seen, including anaemia with

clinical presentation consistent with the diagnosis of TB like pyrexia with evening rise of temperature,

Olaudah Equiano, A British Slave, And Frederick Douglass...
The autobiographies of Olaudah Equiano, a British slave, and Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs,
American slaves, highlight the transition from the institution of British slavery pre American
Revolution to the 18th and 19th century American plantation slavery. The explicit differences between
the two systems suggest unique factors that either promoted or hindered each institution. In Britain,
slavery was generally driven by economic factors that relied on trained labor. Growth and expansion
of slavery in the United States, however, was deeply rooted in consistent oppression and exploitation
of slaves through physical and psychological abuses, which in turn gave slave owners unchecked
power that ensured the perpetuation of plantation slavery. The placement of slaves throughout
different regions of the world shaped individual experiences, allowing for the growth of varied slave
institutions. The life of Olaudah Equiano, a slave sent primarily to Britain and its colonies, in contrast
with the lives of American slaves, defines this clear difference. While enslaved, Equiano was taught
how to read and write, and was baptized as a Christian. These events marked the bridging of the wide
gap between African slaves and their European slave owners, as slaves in Britain participated in
aspects of society traditionally associated with Europeans. Equiano s apprehensions and
alarms...among the Europeans began to decrease, as he was continually being integrated into society

Comparing Weber s Protestant Sects And The Spirit Of...
Weber also works off of Marx s theories, far more than Durkheim appeared to. In the major instance,
he takes Marx s super sub structure notion, flips it upside down, and molds it to his own theories.
Marx hypothesized the economy to be the base of all society; Weber, on the other hand, conceived
religion as being the base to shape the rest of society and theorized as such in The Protestant Sects and
the Spirit of Capitalism, where business and religion are viewed as strongly correlated.
Businessmen would commonly be asked to what church do you belong? and what service did you
attend today? (MW, p. 303). Patients would tell their doctors the name of their churches as to signify
they could afford the fees. Those who wanted to open banks or other forms of businesses wanted to
receive the community s support beforehand; they would often get baptized in order to do so or would
build, and open, a church before their business. Church mindedness was so prominent back then that a

The ancient egyptians religion was complex in some ways. Ancient Egyptians were polytheistic
meaning they believed in more than one god. Many temples were built in honor of the gods. The only
people that were allowed in the temples were the priests, priestesses, queens, and pharaohs, other
people could only go as far as the temple gates. In total there was about 700 different gods and

The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber Essay
In Ernest Hemingway s short story The short happy life of Francis Macomber , we are presented to
problems some couples face. One of them being infidelity, although the one guilty of infidelity does
not face the consequences you normally would face if you were unfaithful to your spouse. Another
problem or theme in this short story is gender roles, the wife wants a husband who is rich, strong and
brave. The husband on the other hand just wants a beautiful wife, and maybe also a faithful one too.
Initially you get the impression that they are really living up to the expectations, but if you read on
you will find out that everything just isn t like it should be.
The couple in this story are named Francis Macomber and Margot Macomber. Margot, ... Show more

Margot on the hand does not show happiness or leniency towards her husband, on the contrary, she
gets furious as we see in the following example: Wasn t it marvellous, Margot? asks Francis and she
answers by saying: I hated it . In this whole incident it is clear that Margot is not pleased at all, except
for a quick moment in which she anticipates that this hunt might turn out the same as the one before it:
Then it s going to be just like the lion, said Margot, full of anticipation . It is clear why she might wish
that, because she wants to feel dominant in the relationship again, and she will get a chance to taunt
Francis again. But she doesn t. And in the end she ends up shooting her husband, intentionally or not,
Francis is no less dead.
The view presented in this essay is one that is also held by Mary Anne Ferguson in The Dominating
Wife: The Bitch . In it she argues that: Bitches are not born: they are at least partly made by their
environment, including the men in their relationships. Margaret Macomber s open contempt for her
husband may have been a result of the cowardice he exhibited except for a few moments in his short
life . But she misses the fact that even when he does show courage Margot does not seem happy at all.
And it is also after his courage that he is shot by Margot, not when he is a

Cutlass-Beaked River Hawk
The Cutlass beaked river hawk, or aceros amnicus, is a very unique bird of prey. The latin root aceros
means sharp, and amnicus means it is from a river. It lives near rivers and has very sharp talons as
well as an extremely sharp beak, which goes along with its scientific name. The sharp talons allow it
to catch prey trying to flee from it. It s feet are rather large, and that makes catching moving prey and
gripping on to trees much easier. This hawk lives in an environment in which the amount of fish and
small mammals is abundant. Since it feeds on this type of prey, it s relatively easy for the hawk to find
food. Most of the time it is able to catch its prey because of its incredible speed, sharp talons, and

of protection from predators on the ground. This can also pose a threat for the hawk s chicks since
there is a possibility that a chick can fall out of the nest. This is very unlikely to happen, since the
mother hawk is always reinforcing the nest with various twigs found along the riverbank once the
chicks have hatched, while the male hawk watches over the baby birds or catches food for them. The
female river hawk lays the eggs, which must be kept warm and dry in order for the unborn chick to
survive. The nest also must be reinforced when the mother it incubating her eggs or they could fall.

INTRODUCTION
A system is created to solve problems, for example, work out someone s wages. The systems approach
can be said to be an organised way of dealing and solving the problem.
A life cycle in system analysis is a term used to describe a process for planning, creating, testing, and
deploying an information system. The systems development life cycle concept applies to a range of
hardware and software configurations, as a system can be composed of hardware only, software only,
or a combination of both.
General system development life cycles that exist include: o Waterfall stages, requirements, design,
implementation, verification, maintenance. o Agile stages, define requirements, integrate test(X3),
feedback, approved? yes=release to market, no= record incorporate changes, adjust track, next
iteration (back to beginning). o Spiral plan, test, analyses, development of testing (back to the
beginning until everything is complete and there are not problems found in testing.)

The Characteristics Of Jefferson Davis
Jefferson Davis ,most famously known as the president of the Confederate States during the Civil War,
was an interesting subject of the 19th century. You would think it was because of his contributions to
the war or lack thereof, but unfortunately he is associated more with his peculiar characteristics. Many
of the characteristics are equivalent to those of basic people carrying out normal lives. The expectancy
of loyalty and respect, indecisiveness, and not being capable of admitting faults, we all know someone
with at least one of these traits, maybe even all of them. So why was it so unique in the case of
Jefferson Davis? Although these were normal traits, the life that Davis lived was not. With such a
public demanding job, every aspect of his life was showcased and under close observation. The
struggle between Davis and his overpowering attributes not only had an effect on his relationships and
friendships, but they also had an impact, not completely negative or positive, on the way he completed
his job. As a child, Davis practically had no say in determining his future. His father Samuel Emory
Davis, although he wasn t the most emotionally present, determined almost every aspect of his son s
life up to his death. It was he that sent Davis to boarding to school at a young age and choose what
university he would attend. Even after the death of Samuel, Davis still did not take control of his life.

developing communication like skills. Online multiplayer video games involve thousands of players
all over the world who may play solo, in teams, or with one other player. To begin the study, a survey
will be created in order to gather information on the communication skills of collaborative gaming
individuals. The survey will have subjects answer different questions regarding their communication
behavior during videogame playing. In addition the number of years that a subject has played a

It is important to recognize however, that this particular sample, though a convenience sample, is also
made up of respondents who are part of the gaming community. Thus, this sample has certain
limitations in that the data will compiled from a self selected sample.
Section 3: Key Variables
The main question was to identify whether online collaborative gaming improved communication
skills. Four variables were used to assess whether communication skills could be improved due to
online gaming they are as follows: team communication skills, communication through leadership
skills, autocratic leadership skills, and leadership through democracy skills. The team communication
skills variable which consists of questions on the survey 1 7 which can be found in the Appendix as

Health Disparities Essay
There are three categories that summarize health disparities in the U.S. The first is disparities that have
a social or economic cause rather than a biological cause. An example of this would be that the death
rates of black American men are 26 percent higher than that of white men. Also, the death rates of
black American woman are 19 percent higher than that of white women. An explanation for this is
because blacks have a lower socioeconomic status than white. The reason for this is because blacks
are more likely than white to never graduate high school, or graduate high school but not go to college
(Barr, 43). Therefore, those with low socioeconomic status can t afford to go to the doctor which

New Belgium Brewing Company Case Study
The New Belgium Brewing Company (NBB) started out as a small beer brewing concept in 1991,
brewing beers out of their basement. Once they determined they had a product that could be
marketable, they opened their first brewery in Ft. Collins Colorado and have been growing ever since,
becoming the third largest craft brewer in the country (New Belgium Brewing Company, 2014). But
just as any business there is always competition and consumer opinion which allows a business to

over the last decade and according to the Boulder, Colorado based Brewers Association, the number of
microbreweries has surged in the past five years 73% nationally (Olson, 2014). For the New Belgium

should receive equal treatment under the law. Unfortunately, there are times when preservation of our
rights and liberties is threatened for a number of reasons sometimes even due to to national security or
patriotism. When it comes to wearing our rights the majority of examples that I could find involved
wearing an item of clothing with words on it, which is enacting our freedom of speech which is a civil
liberty covered under the first amendment. Usually when enacting this specific civil liberty we are
doing it with words that relate to some specific type of inequality or injustice based on the
infringement of our civil rights. Examples include race, gender or disability.

Stewart David Nozette Research Paper
Introduction On September 7, 2011, a guilty plea to one count of attempted espionage by one of the
most noted space scientists in America shook the nation to its core. On that day, Stewart David
Nozette, a respected U.S. scientist who had worked on the Star Wars missile shield effort and helped
discover water on the moon became a disgraced criminal. Nozette was arrested in October of 2009 for
attempting to provide classified information to a person he believed to be an Israeli Mossad agent
(Fitzpatrick 2009). His guilty plea brought closure to a case that required the cooperation of a
significant number of U.S. agencies and departments and serves as a prime example of what happens
when a person decides to sell our nation s most valuable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nozette is no different as his resume is full of high level jobs and astounding educational successes.
Nozette received a Ph.D. in Planetary Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in
1983 which served as his launching pad to work in various capacities on behalf of the U.S.
government in the development of state of the art programs in defense and space (Office of Public
Affairs 2011). In 1989, Stewart Nozette began holding sensitive and high profile positions within the
U.S. government, which included working at the White House on the National Space Council,
Executive Office of the President (Washington Field Office 2012). He also gained notoriety with his
work as a physicist for the U.S. Department of Energy s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory,
where he designed highly advanced technology (Washington Field Office 2012). According to a
factual proffer that was submitted in support of his guilty plea, from 1989 through 2006, Nozette held
security clearances as high as TOP SECRET and had regular, frequent access to classified information
and documents related to the national defense of the United States (Office of Public Affairs 2011).
Throughout all of his work during this time period, Nozette never gave the impression that he could be
a traitor to the United States. Craig Covault, editor at large for SpaceFlightNow.com, who interviewed
Nozette multiple times while covering the aerospace industry stated, To my knowledge, he was a
dedicated scientist whose manner would give you no clue he was a spy. He was a very solid

Ethics And The Separation Of Law And Morals
Law and morality work together to guide our behavior; while law does it by punishing us if we do
something wrong, morality does it through incentives. In their articles, both H.L.A Hart in Positivism
and the Separation of Law and Morals, and Lon Fuller s reply to professor Hart in Positivism and
Fidelity to Law, discuss the concept of law post world war II Germany and their re imagining of
natural law as put forth by Gustav Radbruch s theory. In this paper, I hope to show how both law and
morality is needed to create just rules, more specifically drawing from the grudge informer case
mentioned in Hart s article. First, I will explain the dilemma of the grudge informer case and the
contradicting theory laid down by Radbrunch s. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her defense was that she acted according to the law of that time and had not committed any crime.
Hart agrees with her defense, saying that we should now applaud ourselves for punishing her for her
immoral actions because she adhered to the laws of her time, and was at that time not doing anything
wrong. Contradicting his view is Radbrunch s, who argued that extreme injustice is no law, meaning
that a particular social standard can lose its legal validity when it is extremely unjust. Hart, a legal
positivist, believes that law is law, and argued against Radbrunch s theory in servings as a solution to
fix Germany s judicial system. He argued against his theory and wanted a separation of law and
morality because he thought that it would only cloak the true nature of the problems, and encourage a
romantic optimism, rather than addressing the dilemma that the courts had in deciding on convicting
Nazi criminals. Though Hart acknowledges that this case poses a difficult situation for the law, he
does propose his own solution to the problem. With his positivist approach to the law, saying that the
laws are the rules expected of us, and enforced at a particular time, he proposes that the grudge
informer should be punished through a different and new set of laws. These laws he deems
retrospective laws, would entail punishing acts such as revenge and duplicity. However, this dilemma
between choosing if the grudge informer was innocent

Review of Army of Shadows Essay
In Army of Shadows (2008), Hillel Cohen reexamines the typical historical narratives about
Palestinian perspectives prior to the Nakba. Much of the discussion pertains to the changes that took
place within the mindsets of numerous groups of Palestinians during the British Mandate. It could be
beneficial to compare the approach and methodologies of Hillel Cohen s book to Ilan Pappe s The
Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine (2006) and his reassessment of Israel s historical memory. Pappe
focuses on the planning and actions that were taken to ensure an ethnically cleansed Israel and places
this in direct contrast with current perspectives of historical rhetoric. Both authors draw from a variety
of sources in order to adequately examine the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the more important aspects of nationalism in the 1920s was how Arabic newspapers were used
to define notions of treason. Cohen assesses how one is determined to be a traitor, whether through
absentee land sales or contributions to Zionist intelligence organizations, and how this leads to violent
repression of all varieties of treason. It is interesting to note that although nationalism was becoming
rooted within Palestinian society, the notion of treason was not wholly accepted. Widespread concepts
of nationalism did not become the principal component in the basket of identities of each individual
and the one for which he is willing to kill and be killed but instead, in the 1920s, setup the
mechanisms that helped to achieve this goal: establishment of nationalist norms, coercion, and reward.
The press, the religious system..., and the educational system served as central tools to setup the
negative and positive influences into the norms of nationalism. This in turn led to the concepts of who
is a traitor and who is not. As nationalism comes into its own by the riots of 1936, the definition of
who are traitors or collaborators began to take a more specific role. Whether they were opportunists,
village leaders, patriots, or moralists, all found themselves at odds with the rising forms of
nationalism. Common responses within the Palestinian narrative

Sidney Simmons Essay
Sidney Simmons liked to believe that she was an above average girl, despite nearly everyone around
her disagreeing. They saw her as plain, remarkably so. Never met a girl quite like Sidney, they d say.
How she got to be so normal is beyond me. When people attempted to find anything interesting or
abnormal about this lanky, pale faced girl, they d find that she was extraordinarily ordinary.
Her mother resented her for it. Marian Simmons and her husband, Albert Simmons, had been
incredibly special since birth, as had their parents been before them. Mr. and Mrs. Simmons were
Metamorphosers. Metamorphosers are similar to what humans call shapeshifters, however they are all
incredibly smart, pretty, and charming, and most are known to be rather ... Show more content on

He was brilliant, even by Metamorphoser standards, and his actions were controlled by logic, which
led to people believing he was cold hearted. That was incorrect, as he loved Sidney, despite her not
being as amazing as was expected. She was his daughter, and he loved her.
On the other hand, Marian Simmons, a tall, blonde, narrow faced woman, had dreamed of having a
large, happy, exceptional family since she was eleven. She met Albert when she was fourteen, picking
him out as her future spouse within five minutes of first setting eyes on him. She was a very
determined woman and a tyrant of a mother. She was the one who decided that Sidney should be sent
to Resarcio s School for the Metamorphally Challenged.
Every child born to Metamorphoser parents had heard of Resarcio s. It was a threat, tantrum prone
children hearing about it often. If you don t stop whining, we ll send you to Resarcio s. Go to bed this
instant or you ll be heading to Resarcio s in the morning. Fortunately, Resarcio s School for the
Metamorphally Challenged was not as horrid a school as all the children supposed. There were no
secret sinister agendas to be spoken of, and though the current Resarcio and his employees were rather
strict, it was a school of the highest calibre. The school did what it was supposed to do: fix ordinary

  • 2. Realism In Tony Kushner s Angels In America Angels in America: Millennium Approaches by Tony Kushner can be conventionally defined as a work of Theatricalism. Breaking the preconceived notions of theatre such as gender casting, fluent scenes, and varying extremes ranging from characters, to visuals, to the introduction of historical figures. However, the work strikes a note of realism. We find ourselves encompassed by passionate actors sharing real emotions with us, scenes based in historical events, and characters placed in events that we then find to be our own realities. While we find our realities to be true and heightened by those in the work could it be possible that some of these characters realities are in fact false, or being defined by the theatricality that surrounds them? • 3. Public Health Nutrition Personal Statement Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to do something special in life. I was born in a small village in Mexico where public health and education were very limited. In 1996, my family and I got the opportunity to move to the United States. This move brought me closer than I had ever thought possible to accomplishing my dream of becoming a registered dietitian and working in public health nutrition. I have always valued my education because where I am from it was really difficult to study beyond middle school. Here, in the United States, I have gotten the chance to further my education beyond high school. In 2009, I became a U.S. citizen and enrolled in Pellissippi State Community College (PSCC) where I acquired my Associates in Science degree. While at PSCC, I had the chance to study abroad and volunteer in Segovia, Spain, where I taught English to elementary school children. I also assisted the nurses at Los Hermanos Franciscanos de la Cruz Blanca, a center for the poor and disabled, where I helped with patient care, feedings, daily exercises and workshops. I had to rely on sheer dedication, will power and trust in appropriate programing in order to continuously make progress. I have found that there is no substitute for being willing to do little tasks consistently, for these tasks later yield large results. To ensure that I was going to maximize my potential of reaching my goal of gaining 2 3.5 lbs. of lean body mass, then I was going to need to have a detailed plan from the beginning. In order to provide adequate programing, I decided to seek knowledge from an experienced personal trainer. I did not have to go far as my mother has over 25 years of experience in the fitness world, and specifically personal training. Together we came up with a program that would allow for maximum muscular hypertrophy and strength increase, by carefully delegating the stimulation of training sessions and appropriate recovery. I then evaluated what I was going to need to consume in regards of nutrition. Assessing the appropriate amount of each nutrient was another key factor that I had to evaluate and then enforce into my daily life. Through these implementations there was a clear roadmap that would guide me to the end result I was seeking. • 5. Social Learning And Constructivism Theory Social Learning and Constructivism Learning is described as a process by which behavior changes as a result of experience. According to Merriam and Cafarella (1991), there are five theories/orientations to learning, two of which will be compared in this paper; social learning theory and constructivism theory. Social Learning Theory Regarding social learning, this theory explains the individual learning process, the formation of one s identity and, how individuals learn by observing others in a social setting. Known as the bridge between behaviorist and cognitive learning theories, it incorporates some aspects of behaviorist and cognitive frameworks (Taylor, et al., 2000. para. 7). As stated by Psychologist Albert Bandura (1986, 1988), Most human behavior is learned observationally through modeling: from observing others, one forms an idea of how new behaviors are performed, and on later occasions this coded information serves as a guide for action. Effective modeling teaches general rules and strategies for dealing with different situations. (Bandura). Concerning social learning, in regards to the role of an instructor, he or she has to be an appropriate model, equip their students to self regulate, self monitor, self correct, and properly self monitor (Ellis, n.d.). An instructor needs to be a positive influence, a mentor, and understand how his or her behaviors affect others. This essay shall James Thomson and Thomas Gray in their construction of the role of the poet. Thomson s Spring conveys the role of the poet as being multifaceted. Contrary to this, Gray establishes the role of the poet as one of isolation and being an outsider whilst expressing anxiety over the declining role of the poet, as seen in The Bard . To begin, this essay shall examine the forms used by the poets. Thomson makes of the Miltonic blank verse. By doing this, the role of the poet is conveyed as multifaceted as a range of subjects are discussed. Gray uses the form of the Pindaric ode in order to establish the idea of the poet being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ode was considered to create distance between the poet and the audience (Zionkowski, pg334). This is conveyed through the emotional complexity of the ode. The ode works in the genre of both eulogy, as the bard is in mourning, and exulting through the victory of the bard in the end. However, the reader is unable to sympathise with the bard figure which creates a distance between both reader and poet. The emotion is more than mourning. The poet is mourning over the loss of his own community, the Welsh bards, and is the last of his kind. The reader is unable to connect emotionally with the bard as the reader has not experienced this type of loss. Thus distance is created, leading to the poet being isolated. This then aids in turning the audience into a passive object much like Edward and his army is passive in the bard s prophecy (Zionkowski, pg345). Thus, the role of the poet becomes one of distance from the readership, placing the audience as being passive. Thus through the form, the role of the poet is constructed. By placing themselves in a literary tradition, Thomson and Gray highlight a deep lineage the poet has. The role of the poet, therefore, is part of a larger history and tradition. Furthermore, Thomson is able to construct the role of the poet as being multifaceted as the freedom of the Miltonic blank verse allows him to cover various subjects. The use of Pindaric ode creates distance between the poet and reader. This is due to the deep emotional complexity of the subject matter which the reader cannot sympathise with. Thus, the audience is kept at a distance, unable to interact with the text. The poem is then only author centered (Zionkowski, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Under this ban, the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States [source 2] was illegal. • 20. Gender Orientation And Sexual Orientation Did you know that gay men and lesbians do not choose their sexual orientation, but rather are born with it? There has been extensive research proving that sexual orientation is caused by many biological factors, whereas there is no solid proof that social factors after birth affect sexual orientation (Swaab, 2007, p. 442). Sexual orientation is already programmed into the brain, with the influence of sex hormones and genes, before a child is even born. The development of sexual orientation is caused by sex hormones, genes, and the brain, which then cause differences in the anatomical body (LeVay, 2011, p.271). Firstly, sex hormones that mainly influence a person s sexual orientation are the levels of testosterone during critical periods of prenatal development (LeVay, 2011, p. 132). If androgen insensitivity syndrome occurs in individuals with XY chromosomes, the gene coding for the androgen receptor is mutated, causing the receptor to either barely function, or not at all (LeVay, 2011, p. 137). This causes their body to not respond to testosterone, so they begin to develop physically as a female. Instead of the athletes sharing in the revenue they create, it s just the fat cats who benefit. The NCAA has multiple billions of dollars in revenue every year. but the athletes don t see a pretty penny of that. Lots of people believe that college athletes should not be compensated monetarily. by the means of money. They think that a scholarship is enough compensation for the athlete s work. However, But what people do not know is that not all athletes get scholarships, and not all scholarships include things like food and clothes. So college athletes should be paid extra money for three reasons: the players put in lots of work, the NCAA makes billions of dollars every year, and the NCAA acts as an employer. So out of the $771 million, which does not include all of the revenue from the schools, and the 460,000 athletes (ncaa), that would only cost $690 million. That leaves about $80 million left to pay the executives. Because the NCAA acts as an employer, makes a ton of money, and for all of the time and work the athletes put in, they should be paid. • 27. Olaudah Equiano, A British Slave, And Frederick Douglass... The autobiographies of Olaudah Equiano, a British slave, and Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs, American slaves, highlight the transition from the institution of British slavery pre American Revolution to the 18th and 19th century American plantation slavery. The explicit differences between the two systems suggest unique factors that either promoted or hindered each institution. In Britain, slavery was generally driven by economic factors that relied on trained labor. Growth and expansion of slavery in the United States, however, was deeply rooted in consistent oppression and exploitation of slaves through physical and psychological abuses, which in turn gave slave owners unchecked power that ensured the perpetuation of plantation slavery. The placement of slaves throughout different regions of the world shaped individual experiences, allowing for the growth of varied slave institutions. The life of Olaudah Equiano, a slave sent primarily to Britain and its colonies, in contrast with the lives of American slaves, defines this clear difference. While enslaved, Equiano was taught how to read and write, and was baptized as a Christian. In the major instance, he takes Marx s super sub structure notion, flips it upside down, and molds it to his own theories. Marx hypothesized the economy to be the base of all society; Weber, on the other hand, conceived religion as being the base to shape the rest of society and theorized as such in The Protestant Sects and the Spirit of Capitalism, where business and religion are viewed as strongly correlated. Businessmen would commonly be asked to what church do you belong? and what service did you attend today? (MW, p. 303). Patients would tell their doctors the name of their churches as to signify they could afford the fees. Those who wanted to open banks or other forms of businesses wanted to receive the community s support beforehand; they would often get baptized in order to do so or would build, and open, a church before their business. Hart agrees with her defense, saying that we should now applaud ourselves for punishing her for her immoral actions because she adhered to the laws of her time, and was at that time not doing anything wrong. Contradicting his view is Radbrunch s, who argued that extreme injustice is no law, meaning that a particular social standard can lose its legal validity when it is extremely unjust. Hart, a legal positivist, believes that law is law, and argued against Radbrunch s theory in servings as a solution to fix Germany s judicial system. He argued against his theory and wanted a separation of law and morality because he thought that it would only cloak the true nature of the problems, and encourage a romantic optimism, rather than addressing the dilemma that the courts had in deciding on convicting Nazi criminals. Though Hart acknowledges that this case poses a difficult situation for the law, he does propose his own solution to the problem. With his positivist approach to the law, saying that the laws are the rules expected of us, and enforced at a particular time, he proposes that the grudge informer should be punished through a different and new set of laws. These laws he deems retrospective laws, would entail punishing acts such as revenge and duplicity. However, this dilemma between choosing if the grudge informer was innocent ... • 45. Review of Army of Shadows Essay In Army of Shadows (2008), Hillel Cohen reexamines the typical historical narratives about Palestinian perspectives prior to the Nakba. Much of the discussion pertains to the changes that took place within the mindsets of numerous groups of Palestinians during the British Mandate. It could be beneficial to compare the approach and methodologies of Hillel Cohen s book to Ilan Pappe s The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine (2006) and his reassessment of Israel s historical memory. Pappe focuses on the planning and actions that were taken to ensure an ethnically cleansed Israel and places this in direct contrast with current perspectives of historical rhetoric. Both authors draw from a variety of sources in order to adequately examine the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the more important aspects of nationalism in the 1920s was how Arabic newspapers were used to define notions of treason. Cohen assesses how one is determined to be a traitor, whether through absentee land sales or contributions to Zionist intelligence organizations, and how this leads to violent repression of all varieties of treason. It is interesting to note that although nationalism was becoming rooted within Palestinian society, the notion of treason was not wholly accepted. Widespread concepts of nationalism did not become the principal component in the basket of identities of each individual and the one for which he is willing to kill and be killed but instead, in the 1920s, setup the mechanisms that helped to achieve this goal: establishment of nationalist norms, coercion, and reward. The press, the religious system..., and the educational system served as central tools to setup the negative and positive influences into the norms of nationalism. This in turn led to the concepts of who is a traitor and who is not. As nationalism comes into its own by the riots of 1936, the definition of who are traitors or collaborators began to take a more specific role. Whether they were opportunists, village leaders, patriots, or moralists, all found themselves at odds with the rising forms of nationalism. Common responses within the Palestinian narrative ... • 46. Sidney Simmons Essay Sidney Simmons liked to believe that she was an above average girl, despite nearly everyone around her disagreeing. They saw her as plain, remarkably so. Never met a girl quite like Sidney, they d say. How she got to be so normal is beyond me. When people attempted to find anything interesting or abnormal about this lanky, pale faced girl, they d find that she was extraordinarily ordinary. Her mother resented her for it. Marian Simmons and her husband, Albert Simmons, had been incredibly special since birth, as had their parents been before them. Mr. and Mrs. Simmons were Metamorphosers. Metamorphosers are similar to what humans call shapeshifters, however they are all incredibly smart, pretty, and charming, and most are known to be rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was brilliant, even by Metamorphoser standards, and his actions were controlled by logic, which led to people believing he was cold hearted. That was incorrect, as he loved Sidney, despite her not being as amazing as was expected. She was his daughter, and he loved her. On the other hand, Marian Simmons, a tall, blonde, narrow faced woman, had dreamed of having a large, happy, exceptional family since she was eleven. She met Albert when she was fourteen, picking him out as her future spouse within five minutes of first setting eyes on him. She was a very determined woman and a tyrant of a mother. She was the one who decided that Sidney should be sent to Resarcio s School for the Metamorphally Challenged. Every child born to Metamorphoser parents had heard of Resarcio s. It was a threat, tantrum prone children hearing about it often. If you don t stop whining, we ll send you to Resarcio s. Go to bed this instant or you ll be heading to Resarcio s in the morning. Fortunately, Resarcio s School for the Metamorphally Challenged was not as horrid a school as all the children supposed. There were no secret sinister agendas to be spoken of, and though the current Resarcio and his employees were rather strict, it was a school of the highest calibre. The school did what it was supposed to do: fix ordinary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
