The Between Baboons And The Sun
There are many points of view concerning the classifications of hypocephali. According to Uranic,
hypocephali are classified into two types such as Theban type in which the hypocephalus contains
three horizontal registers with very few inscriptions beside the scenes and DbA ty type referring to the
title of god Osiriswith which the text begins. On the other hand, Gee classified them into six styles. In
fact, there are many other types of hypocephali which are the same except for very few differences.
This research contains forty one hypocephali exhibited in different museums all over the world. The
aim of the study is to focus on the baboons scenes specially their forms, positions, locations, their total
number and their number flanking the seated four headed god.
In the Old Kingdom the sacredbaboon or ape was associated with the patron of writing and wisdom
god DHwty. Moreover, it was a manifestation of the moon god DHwty and it was a very strong relation
between the baboons and the sun in Ancient Egypt because of their curious habit of warming
themselves by the sun rays at the beginning of the day with raised paws after a very cold night to the
extent that it was believed that these animals adored the solar sphere.
The association between the sun god Ra and the baboons can be presented in various ways such as the
representation of baboons raising their paws at the obelisks pedestals in the worshiping attitude as well
as on the facades of some of the temples that

The European Union, International Monetary Fund, And Greece
The European Union, International Monetary Fund, and Greece What are the reasons unions and
organizations are formed? Unions and organizations are formed to create solidarity, support, and
overall continuity among its members. Unions and organizations can range from economic unity to
political reasons. The European Union and the International Monetary Fund were formed on the basis
of improving and assisting its members to avoid a chain reaction of ruin throughout the global
economy as well as throughout its member states. Greece, a member of the European Union, has been

One way to stop this from happening again was to unite the countries together economically and
eventually politically. In this way, each individual country was tied to one other. If one country wanted
to start a war it would affect every country in the union and cause collapse equally between the
aggressor and the aggressee. ( EU Matters.ie Information about Ireland s membership of the EU. n.d.)
The first step in the European Union was the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community
(ECSC) in 1950. The foreign minister of France at the time, Robert Schuman, believed that the heavy
industries of coal and steel in Europe should be united to secure a lasting peace. Initially, France and
Germany were the main countries involved with the European Coal and Steel Community, but
Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, and Luxembourg also joined. With these six countries intertwined in
the coal and steel industry one member country could not make weapons on their own for wars
without affecting the other member countries. (Editors of Encyclopedia Brittanica, n.d.,) Due to the
success of the European Coal and Steel Community, leaders in Europe commenced talks about
creating a unified economic landscape within the continent. Hence, the signing of the Treaty of Rome
took place on March 25, 1957 between the six European countries: France, Germany, Belgium, the

We Are A Camera, By Nick Paumgarten
Although a memory may deteriorate over the span of years or even decades, a photograph will last a
lifetime. Images are more than an object to have for safe keeping. In his article, We Are A Camera,
Nick Paumgarten discusses the uprising of the popular recording device known as the GoPro. This
device is used to record events and experiences from different perspectives, whether that is from
underwater or zip lining through a forest in a first person view. Moreover, videos and photography
allow people to capture images to reminisce about past experiences, to share these moments with
others, and even remember those whom you have lost. There are countless debates about how
distracting cell phones and other electronic devices can be however, they can still be used in positive
ways, such as capturing images. Images are a way of recalling events or memories. Certainly, with
these images a person would depict a picture far more vividly than what they could have conjured up
by simply trying to remember the moment. After going through a great experience, people tend to
want to reflect and rejoice at what they had done or gone through. The most memorable moment of
my past would have to be my seventh birthday party. It was a small surprise in the middle of a park in
Fort Lauderdale on a scorching hot day. I recall playing soccer on the grassy plains, receiving gifts and
the abundance of laughter in the air. The only problem is, I only remember vague images in my mind
that I pieced

Why We Need A Minimum Wage By Frances Coppola

Why We Need a Minimum Wage, an article by Forbes writer Frances Coppola. Coppola is also a

This is an opinion piece, as its title gives a clear opinion; we need a minimum wage. Throughout the
article it mentions examples of countries that lack minimum wages, and how he U.S. and the UK have
been better off with a minimum wage.
A. Arguments/claims
i. I would like to see the end of sanctions for refusing jobs, the elimination of workfare schemes, and
the provision of a basic income replacing both in work and out of work benefits, says Coppola.

This simple analysis does of course assume that unemployment is a real threat to a worker s standard

Employers argue that unemployment is not their fault, it s the employees who choose to be lazy. iii. If
a firm can t pay its workers enough to live on, then it isn t a viable business, because it is dependent
on wage subsidies. This is why businesses must cut jobs, if they cannot meet minimum wages at the

The almost omnipresent Internet transforms our lives, connecting us to family, friends, and the world
in ways inconceivable only a few years ago. Through social media, we actively participate in creating,

As a logical consequence, Postmes and Brunsting (2002) reasoned that the Internet is changing society
because people s cognitive processes, triggered by access to information and communication, replace
the strong social ties that traditionally underpin committed activism. In simpler words, in the past,
humanity used the herd instinct as the main driving force behind committed forms of activism. Thanks
to the Internet, we climb another step or three on the evolutionary ladder, and simply do away with the
herd instinct and replace it with reason. The argument, if put this way, does not sound particularly
strong. What can be taken away is that social media is still evolving, that social media changes the
way we or most of us communicate, that social media is used in social and political activism, and that
the Internet increases quantitative if not qualitative access to information.
The 2011 uprising in Egypt was in many ways a traditional brick and mortar revolution, but with a
cyber twist to it: based on their statistical analysis of a large body of tweets related to the 2011
uprising in Egypt, Starbird and Palen (2012) observed that activists used Twitter as an important tool
to share ideas and information with like minded people, because Twitter allows a high number of
activists interact using its retweet and other mechanisms. In this case, Twitter was used among
participants and supporters of a traditional mass movement to bypass government controlled

Can Continental Airlines Continue to Work Hard, Fly Right...
History of Continental Airlines
Continental Airlines began service in 1934 as Varney Speed Lines, named after one of its initial
owners, Walter T. Varney operating out of El Paso, Texas and extending through Las Vegas,
Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico to Pueblo, Colorado. The airline started with Lockheed
Vegas, a single engine plane that carried four passengers. The airline later flew other Lockheed planes,
including the Lodestar. It was renamed Continental on 1 July 1937 after a new owner Robert Six had
taken a forty percent ownership with Varney s co founder Louis Mueller. Six relocated the airline s
headquarters to Stapleton Airport in Denver in October, 1937. Robert F. Six was one of the legendary

Most agreements permit airlines to fly from their home country to designated airports in the other
country: some also extend the freedom to provide continuing service to a third country, or to another
destination in the other country while carrying passengers from overseas. In the 1990s, open skies
agreements became more common. These agreements take many of these regulatory powers from state
governments and open up international routes to further competition. Open skies agreements have met
some criticism, particularly within the European Union, whose airlines would be at a comparative
disadvantage with the United States because of cabotage restrictions.

Coal Mining And Its Effects
When asked to think of coal mining, what comes to mind? A mountain with a hole cut into the side of
it with a set of railroad tracks disappearing into it? Maybe an old mine car or two full of some rocks or
coal, with a pickaxe and shovel leaning against it. A few guys with hard hats covered in a black
powder coming walking out of the mine pushing a car or two full of coal. The technology has
advanced but the process is basically still the same as well as the outcome. Coal is retrieved from
underground and taken to factories to be burnt to create electricity or to fuel the steel mills.
1 What is coal? Coal is a substance we consider today a fossil fuel, created from all the dead plants
millions of years ago. Coal is formed from prehistoric plants that when they die are not able to release
the energy they built up from photosynthesis Typically the plants had fallen into large swamps and
bogs, and then over time the dead plants lying on the bottom of the swamps and bogs were slowly
covered with other dead plants and sediment build up. Once buried the plants were subjected to high
amounts of pressure and temperatures, which over long periods of time it becomes peat then
eventually creates coal. We refer to coal as a fossil fuel today because it is created from prehistoric
plants and the coal we have today has been millions of years since it was in plant form. Today we coal
is still being created we just don t fully recognize it because how long the process actually takes.

A Comparison Of Electric Cars Vs. Internal Combustion...
Electric Cars Vs Internal Combustion Engines
In discussions of vehicles, one controversial issue has been that electric cars Vs gas powered cars. On
the one hand, Ranjan, Kaushik argues the advantages of electric cars over internal combustion
engines. Then On the other hand, LeVine, Steve opposes electric cars.People are learning that electric
cars are a good alternative to internal combustion engines. It has taken many years of investigating to
overcome deep seated dependency on gas and diesel powered vehicles, which cause pollution and
greenhouse gases. Electric cars have increased range and reliability and companies like Tesla are
making electric cars that change the status quo.
Ranjan, Kaushik et. al is the author of Electric Vehicles , Levine, Steve is the author of The Car of the
Future May Run on Gasoline; For all the talk of electric cars, the old fashioned internal combustion
engine is proving to be hard to beat . The intended audience for both of these articles is to draw the
attention of motor heads.
Ranjan states, electric vehicles are nearly three times more fuel efficient than conventional gasoline
powered vehicles (1). Ultimately, Ranjan s is genre about electric vehicles. According to LeVine, they
re a long way from making electric cars competitive in the mass market (1). In other words, LeVine s
genre is internal combustion engines.
The language in Ranjan s article is in the field of the automotive industry. Although, Levine s
language aims towards internal combustion engines. The purpose of these authors articles is to inform
the reader on advantages and disadvantages for electric and gas powered vehicles.
According to Ranjan, electric cars are a good alternative to internal combustion engines. Davis states,
Because they do not rely on an internal combustion engine, electric vehicles may represent a way to
reduce fossil fuel consumption if the electricity used comes from renewable resources (1). In other
words, Ranjan believes that electric cars will not waste the earth s natural resources. Everyday people
use fossil fuels in their cars. There is only a limited amount of fossil fuels to keep using. LeVine s
view, still for now at least, they continue to

Dehumanization Of Boarding Schools
Kill the Indian in him, and save the man. That was the motto of government established boarding
schools for Native Americans on the western frontier. These schools were a cruel and dehumanizing
attempt at assimilating native culture with that of the European white man. By enrolling Native
American children in these schools, they were susceptible to new diseases brought from Europe, such
as tuberculosis and the flu, which the natives had never encountered and resulted fatal. Little Indian
boys who prided themselves in their long hair were forced to cut it off and exchanged their given
names for white names. Since Indian children were forced to speak only English, some schools went
so far as to punish whomever spoke in their native language. These schools had good intentions, they
offered nursing, education, and more opportunities to grow in the new society than the Indians would
otherwise ever receive, yet that gift was not requested by the native peoples. By killing off Native
Americans, making them resign aspects of their culture, and forcing them to switch to the European
language, government boarding schools completely replaced the culture of Indians by means of cruel
and dehumanizing procedures. The first government boarding school for Indians was located in
Carlisle, Pennsylvania and established in 1879. Founded by Richard Pratt, a former frontier Indian
fighter, the school was an attempt at assimilating their culture to that of the white man s, rather than

Parody In The Kite Runner
The Scream is an iconic painting drawn in the late 19th century, even if someone is not interested in
art, they have seen it more than once; There have been countless parodies of it and references to it in
pop culture. Edvard Munch came up with the concept while having a walk with two of his friends
while the sun was setting. The sky had turned blood red. He paused in a state of shock and anxiety,
and his companions had left him. The painting captures this feeling perfectly. In The Kite Runner
blood is used in different situations; this usually shows the connection to the feeling of guilt Amir
feels. An example of this would be when Hassan sacrifices himself for Amir while rescuing the blue

The Sacco And Vanzetti Case
The Sacco and Vanzetti case was one that brought a lot of attention and controversy to American
Society. Nicola Sacco was a shoemaker and Bartolommeo Vanzetti was a fish peddler both of which
were Italian immigrants working in Boston. Sacco and Vanzetti were accused of stealing $16,000 from
a shoe factory and murder of the pay master and the guard. In both Chapter 25 and Upton Sinclair s
letter the reader is still left an uncertainty of their innocence or in fact guilty. In our book, the author
sounds a bit biased as if they were convinced that Sacco and Vanzetti were guilty. Both men were
found armed when arrested but the money was never allocated or seen. In contribution to the
evidence, there was witnesses who could testify that they had seen those men by the factory. They

to be executed. When the execution happened it was noted that Vanzetti stated, I wish to forgive some
people for what they are now doing to me. This chapter does not claim that they were necessarily
guilty but ignores the possibility of their innocence. Upton Sinclair was most known for her book The

Thus, the concept of Shahrazad is liberation of oppressed women and continues to inspire the women

The first thing in the story about the relations of gender is that they are humane means. No trace of
physical violence against women, there does not have any unreasonable insistence purity, chastity, so
on. Men expected women to ignore a lot of things but maybe they also do their best to reciprocate.

What Can We Learn from Julian of Norwich
INTRODUCTION
The medieval theologian Julian of Norwich was a mystic, writer, anchoress and spiritual director for
her time. She is gaining in popularity for our time as she provides a spiritual template for
contemplative prayer and practice in her compilation of writings found in Revelations of Divine Love.
The insightful meditations provide the backdrop and basis for her Trinitarian theology s embrace of
God s Motherhood found in the Trinity. Her representative approach of the all encompassing
unconditional love of a mother who nurtures, depicts Christ as our Mother ascending to the placement
of Second hood within the Trinity while giving voice to the duality of God.
Her choices of metaphors are simplistic explanations providing ... Show more content on

She was the image of one who had successfully negotiated the transition from attachment to Jesus
earthly manhood to a more profound and spiritual relationship with his resurrected self. In this, her
vocation is similar to Julian s, for Julian had also learned, through much suffering, that her integrity
was founded not in anything the physical world could offer her, but in a spiritual relationship with
Christ, developed through loving and persistent prayer.
Julian recreated her visions or shewings in her visual imagery. Julian united to God, oned to God in
love. Her use of painterly eyes in visual metaphors invokes the key figure of Mary Magdalene, as the
lover of Christ, whose sins became no shame, but honor. She utilizes these dramatic representations of
dialogue between the soul who seeks union with God who confers wholeness through relation. She
calls upon all to be like Mary Magdalene in their pursuit of their love for Christ, as they mourn for
their sins rather than fear God s judgments, imploring the approach of beseeching Christ in likening
the par excellence fashion of the Magdalene.
Julian believed the relationship between the soul and God to be a drama. Magdalene as seeker is a
common literary construct used throughout the morality plays of the medieval age. These
representations presented a message that one must detach from an earthly Jesus

The Competitors Of American Express
Current Rivalry
The existing competitors of American Express include Discover Financial Services, Visa, Inc., and
MasterCard Worldwide. Unlike American Express and Discover, Visa, and MasterCard are not
financers, which means these companies are intermediaries and they don t directly finance credit card
transactions (Thangavelu, 2015). That being said, Discover is more in American Express strategic
group because they both issue cards and work within the same strategic group, so American Express
and Discover compete more directly.
Potential Entrants
Not only are there current rivals in every industry, there is always the threat and opportunity for
potential entrants to come to the industry. But not just anyone can enter an industry easily, as there are
barriers to entry that will prevent some competitors to entering a market. American Express has
worked hard to set itself apart from its competitors and create a product differentiation. Because
American Express is in the closed loop network, being the issuer and acquirer, they attract more of an
affluent customer base who are more likely to spend more on their transactions. Unlike other card
companies, American Express relies on their primary source of revenue being the discount fee that
they charge the companies that accept its cards. These fees are charged as a percentage of the charge
amount processed for the merchant (Forbes, 2014). With that being said, this means American Express
relies on its affluent customers

Ethics in Engineering Essay
Ethics is the moral behavior that guides our actions; it motivates us in our personal behavior and is
relevant in a business setting as well. Many organizations have set forth a set of guidelines known as a
Code of Ethics . The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, being one of these organizations,
has set forth their code as a requirement for students and engineer members to adhere to. Heading
towards a career in electrical engineering I choose this organization to elaborate on for my ethics

This being the case it is important for the engineer to consider the application to which the design will
be used as well as how and to what extent it will be handled. In the instance that risks and dangers are
present they must immediately be brought to the attention of the consumer, and if effected as a whole,
the public. The second point outlines the regulation of avoiding real and perceived conflicts of interest
and to bring the forth to all parties involved. Conflicts of interest are more prevalent in our society
than many people believe. Many times conflicts of interest are most common in what is known as self
dealing . Self dealing is the act in which an engineer operates in a fashion to which he benefits on both
sides of the deal. For example if John, co owner of a local corporation, uses his position as a part time
government official to secure job contracts for himself, this would be a conflict of interest related to
self dealing and deemed a violation of ethics by the IEEE. Engineers are also required to use honesty
and not over exaggerate claims or estimates when the data is available to make an informed decision.
When making statements regarding an estimate members are required to accurately measure the cost
and time in which it will take to produce a design. Misleading development times and costs not only
results in damages of a financial sense but also in a loss of quality of the product or design. To prevent

Pathogen Recognition Essay
Active innate immune response to bacterial infections
Pathogen recognition
Immunity depends on the recognition of pathogen components by innate receptors expressed on
immune and non immune cells against microbial pathogens. Innate receptors are conserved germ line
encoded proteins and include TLRs (toll like receptors), RLRs [RIG 1 like receptors (retinoic acid
inducible gene 1)] and NLRs (nod like receptors). Receptors recognize pathogens or pathogen derived
products in different cellular compartments, for instance plasma membrane, endosomes or the
cytoplasm, and induce the expression of cytokines, chemokines and co stimulatory molecules to
eliminate molecules to eliminate pathogens and instruct pathogen specific adaptive immune response.

Complement proteins assist in bacterial killing by three pathway:
 The classical complement pathway
 The alternative complement pathway
 The lectin pathway.
The initial steps of the classical complement pathway require the binding of antibodies to the surface
of the target bacterium. The antibodies then target for one particular complement protein complex,
called as C1. This complement protein C1 binds to the tail (Fc region) of the antibody. Once bound,
C1 initiates a series of cleavage and forming of complement complexes that ends in the binding of
several complement proteins to the surface of the bacterium that forms a membrane attack complex
(MAC) or can generate opsonins that label a bacterium for destruction. MAC inserts itself into the cell
membrane of Gram negative, but not in Gram positive, bacteria. It then produces pores that allow the
entry of membrane damaging molecules, such as lysozyme, and makes the bacterium susceptible to

Argumentative Essay On Fast Food
By now everyone knows that the fast food chains are being sued because they allegedly contribute to
obesity. On Fox s Hannity and Colmes program last July, Samuel Hirsch, the attorney who filed
lawsuits against McDonald s, Burger King, Wendy s, and KFC on behalf of his client who blames
them for his poor health, admitted that the restaurants are not completely to blame. But he added that
their failure to post warnings about nutrition content and their sophisticated marketing strategies make
them partly culpable.
Hirsch s claim that nutrition information is not available is false. Every one of these companies has its
nutrition information available on its website, and I have seen nutrition content posters at several fast
food establishments. But even if the restaurant provided no information, it is easy enough to learn
from books, the Internet, television, and radio that certain foods can promote heart disease, diabetes,
and high blood pressure. To hear Hirsch tell it, working parents must be stupid because they don t
know what they are buying. With his use of the term working he was setting himself up as the
champion of the common man.
The ridiculous claim that corporations are responsible for people s health problems is nothing new.
Remember the lawsuits against the tobacco companies? If you smoke let me ask you this: did an
employee from one of the tobacco companies put a gun to your head and make you smoke a cigarette?
I didn t think so. People who are dying

The Final Legacy Of William The Conqueror, Leader Of The...
He ended with a BANG! That is the final legacy of William the Conqueror, leader of the Norman
invasion of Britain and victor at the iconic Battle of Hastings. When William died, he had developed a
bacterial infection in his stomach, which went unnoticed by the mortician. William was a rather heavy
man, and the coffin he was given was slightly small, so he was forced into the coffin even though he
did not fit. As the infection spread, gas began to build up in his gut, and, in the middle of his funeral
precession, the coffin burst, guts and stagnant blood flying all over the now shrieking crowd. But he is
remembered for far more impactful and even bloodier events (10). Although the Norman Conquest of
1066 was a year of much bloodshed, that year was pivotal to the nation of Great Britain as it helped to
establish the boarders and structure of the Kingdom of Great Britain, it contributed to the creation the
English dialect, and brought new political, social, and religious reforms to the region, each of which
stood to benefit the lands well being The year of 1066 C.E was a period of great reckoning, as the
events of the year s famous Norman invasion would shape the British Isles forever. Before the
invasion, England was ruled by a scheming King known as Edward the Confessor, who used his
childless marriage as a political tool. He promised his crown to several different people in his lifetime,
such as Harold II, the Earl of Wessex, Harold II s brother, Tostig, William, Duke of

Dyscapnia Essay
In the current study, all subjects have stable COPD and those with respiratory failure were excluded
from the startto rule out the effects of hypoxemia and hypercapnia. Also, subjects received regular
inhalation therapy or had other co morbidities (gastro esophageal reflux disease and sinusitis) were
excluded due to the well known and documented harmful effects of these disorders on the voice
quality. In our subjects, it was found that jitter, PPQ and phonatory resistance increase with the
decrease in the pulmonary function. These vocal functions increased in abnormal voice quality and
considered objective indications of dysphonia. The phonatory resistance increased with the decrease in
the pulmonary function. Our subjects did not receive medication ... Show more content on

Gradually and over time, this increased expiratory effort during phonation develops increased tension
in the laryngeal musculatures which is responsible for the perceived dysphonia. This means that at
least great part of dysphonia in our subjects is functional (muscle tension or hyperfunctional
dysphonia). The primary cause of this dysphonia is the weak pulmonary support of air. Moreover, the
characters of dysphonia which dominate in our subjects are strained, rough and leaky dysphonia in
order. These characters of dysphonia typically occur in hyperfunctional dysphonia.13In this article, the
strained dysphonia was found in 23 subjects of COPD(+)dysphonia group (56.7 %). Also, clinical
examination by indirect laryngoscopy revealed medial compression ofthe ventricular bands during
phonation in about 50% of COPD+dysphonia subjects (17 subjects). Subjects with dysphonia have
higher phonatory resistance than those without dysphonia, however the difference is insignificant.
This elevated phonatory resistance can be explained by the increased tension of the laryngeal
musculatures during

Jack Trout And Ries
What a strange word, positioning. Its origins are shrouded in the fog of history. The popular marketing
writers, Jack Trout and Al Ries, started talking about position or positioning in 1972 or thereabouts,
and took credit later for having invented positioning. However, I believe that positioning was an
emerging concept and a term, in at least limited use, within the marketing and advertising community
at the time that Trout and Ries first wrote about it. Certainly, the basic concepts of positioning were
not new in 1972. The term positioning was described by Trout and Ries as the basic position in the
consumer s mind occupied by a brand. They saw positioning as an antidote to the over communicated
society, in which consumers were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning, it s critical to talk to consumers representing a broad spectrum of the potential
market. It is in these early stages that you must resist the temptation to focus too quickly on a narrow
segment of consumers. Keep the market definitions very broad in the early stages of the research so
you do not accidentally preordain the outcome before it begins. For example, if you interviewed
people who only use rotary lawnmowers, you probably would find they only want to buy rotary
mowers. But if you interviewed everyone with a lawn, you probably would identify many different
needs, problems and motives that may form the basis for a positioning strategy.
Qualitative methods (focus groups, depth interviews and ethnography) are essential in the early stages.
What do consumers know, and what do they not know? What language, associations, images, and
metaphors do consumers use in talking about the category? What brands are they familiar with, and
how much do they know about the different brands? What are their perceptions of each of these
brands? What motivates them to consume the product or use the service? What are the key
determinates of brand preference? How is the market segmented or subdivided? What products or
services would be substituted if the subject brand were unavailable? What are the major channels of
distribution, and how does the channel relate to perceptions and usage of the brands? Who are heavy

The Expo 2020 core theme is Connecting minds, creating the future . This overall theme recognizes
the importance of collaboration across cultures and regions to generate sustainable solutions to global
problems whilst the subthemes of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability define the principal drivers
of progress. The expo aims to bring together the global community to forge new partnerships and find
solutions to these core issues concerning humanity and ultimately leave behind a strong transformative
social and economic legacy across the region and the world. Mobility: As the world s markets
continue to grow and interact, new sources of innovation are required to create more integrated
solutions in transportation and logistics systems. Mobility is one of the core drivers of prosperity and
growth as efficient and robust transportation logistics systems are the lifelines that connect people,
goods, and services around the world. Sustainability: It has become increasingly important to innovate
in the production, delivery, and consumption of water and energy. Improving access to these precious
natural resources through responsible conservation and effective management, as well as embracing a
culture of sustainability, are important goals of all countries. Smart Grids have presented an
opportunity to revolutionize the way energy is both produced and consumed as a result of the

Eli Whitney s Invention Of Interchangeable Parts And Mass...
I shall not stay here... Up before day, at the clang of a bell and out the mill by the bell just as though
we were so many living machines (Hopkinson 37). Many girls, between the ages of fifteen and thirty
five, worked at textile mills during the Industrial Revolution for eleven to twelve hours a day, with
little time to catch their breath and fresh air. The Industrial Revolution started in Europe in the
eighteenth century and spread to America during the nineteenth century. Eli Whitney s invention of
interchangeable parts and mass production helped lead the American Industrial Revolution, which
started after the War of 1812 and peaked during the 1870 s. During this time period, many factories,
mills, and factory cities were constructed, one of which was Lowell, Massachusetts, and employed
women because their salaries were lower and therefore cost less. The conditions of the mills and
boarding houses that the girls lived in were unpleasant and crowded, and they could easily become ill.
Eventually, after the height of the Industrial Revolution, women fought for their rights and better
conditions in their workplaces. The Industrial Revolution changed women s roles in society, as it made
jobs that were filled by girls, put them in challenging settings, and united them to work for change in
the workforce.
The Industrial Revolution was a time period in American history, starting from about the late 1700 s to
the early 1800 s and peaked during the 1870 s. Samuel Slater came

Managerial And Behavioural Theory Of The Firm
Introduction
With the roots of the neoclassical theory of the firm dating back to the 1770 s and some of the more
recent developments being some 80 years ago, it is understandable that economists have begun to
question how applicable the Neoclassical theory of the firm is to present day corporations.
(Lipczynski, Wilson, Goddard, 2009) Managerial and behavioural theories have been developed with
the intention of providing a more realistic insight into how contemporary organisations function. This
paper will address how the managerial and behavioural theories differ to the neoclassical approach of
the firm, and to what extent they enhance our understanding of firms. In doing so Baumol s sales
revenue maximisation and Williamson s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At its most basic, neoclassical is reliant upon the surrounding market conditions controlling the
decisions of firms. The Neoclassical approach to the firm provides us with a market wide framework
from which we can make predictions on future outcomes.
During the eighteenth century economic thinking was heavily influenced by the growing textile
industry, where the majority of suppliers were producing homogenous products; leaving no motive for
the economic theory being developed to account for diverse market conditions. (Lipczynski, Wilson,
Goddard, 2009) According to The Modern Corporation and Private Property Revised Edition (1969)
written by Berle and Means, out of The 200 Largest Non Financial Corporations in the United States
the number classed as Management Controlled increased from 88 to 169 from 1929 to 1963
respectively. (Berle and Means, 1968) Amidst the globalisation of firms and the rise of the stock
exchange, firms have become more complex and there ownership has become more diluted. The
supermarket industry is an example of how firms have become more multifaceted; selling thousands
of heterogeneous products, buying from countless suppliers and being owned by whoever chooses to
buy shares on the stock exchange. Due to firms increasing in both size and complexity, owners of
firms often employ teams of managers to run their

Greek Tragic Heroes
Tragic heroes in Greek Tragedy consist of five main characteristics. First of all the character must pass
from happiness to misery. Secondly the character must not be perfectly just, but must be of good
character. Thirdly, the character s downfall must not result from immorality. Fourthly his downfall
must be a result of a hamartia, or a tragic flaw. Last, he must belong to distinguished family in order to
make the fall all the greater. In Sophocles Oedipus Rex Oedipus best represents the characteristics of a
tragic hero. In the beginning of the novel Oedipus is the successful ruler of Thebes with a loving wife
and four wonderful children. The citizens of Thebes respect him and obey his laws. However after the

Reality Of Presidential Election Essay
Reality of presidential candidates Connor Brown With the looming election drawing ever closer the
parade of losers (candidates) has come down to the final two. Only one can become President and
only one can keep the title of presidential candidate. Over the past year the country has seen over 20
different people attempt to become the leader of the free world; and they are all the same. At the very
least they are similar, and by default very easy to categorize. 1. Who is this guy? This is the candidate
no one knows. This is the Lincoln Chaffey, Martin O Malley, and George Pataki (google him). Lincoln
Chaffey who said America needed to get on the Metric system. Martin O Malley, a Democrat who
made sense and said good things, but no one had ever heard of him. George Pataki was a Republican,
there is not really much to say on him. He ran, he dropped out, no one had ... Show more content on

Oh, that guy? Really? Now this candidate is fun because they were known for something they had
done earlier and then return to the public eye to try and lead the country. This includes Marco Rubio
and Ben Carson. Marco Rubio in 2013 gave the Republican response to the State of the Union
address. Whether he did well in that speech was not important. The important thing was that randomly
during the speech he leaned over and took a drink of water. This speech was joke fodder for weeks
following the speech. What no one expected was for Marco Rubio to return 2 years later and run a
respectable presidential campaign. Ben Carson was famous for being the first Neuro surgeon to
successfully separate conjoined twins; and in 2015 he ran for president. He did well in the pools for a
couple weeks, but after the Oregon Shooting he said what the victims should have done (not the most
sensitive thing to do after a mass shooting) causing a dive in his polls. After dropping out of the race
Ben Carson endorsed Donald Trump and proves to still be a strong supporter on the campaign

  • 2. The Between Baboons And The Sun There are many points of view concerning the classifications of hypocephali. According to Uranic, hypocephali are classified into two types such as Theban type in which the hypocephalus contains three horizontal registers with very few inscriptions beside the scenes and DbA ty type referring to the title of god Osiriswith which the text begins. On the other hand, Gee classified them into six styles. In fact, there are many other types of hypocephali which are the same except for very few differences. This research contains forty one hypocephali exhibited in different museums all over the world. The aim of the study is to focus on the baboons scenes specially their forms, positions, locations, their total number and their number flanking the seated four headed god. In the Old Kingdom the sacredbaboon or ape was associated with the patron of writing and wisdom god DHwty. Moreover, it was a manifestation of the moon god DHwty and it was a very strong relation between the baboons and the sun in Ancient Egypt because of their curious habit of warming themselves by the sun rays at the beginning of the day with raised paws after a very cold night to the extent that it was believed that these animals adored the solar sphere. The association between the sun god Ra and the baboons can be presented in various ways such as the representation of baboons raising their paws at the obelisks pedestals in the worshiping attitude as well as on the facades of some of the temples that ... ( EU Matters.ie Information about Ireland s membership of the EU. n.d.) The first step in the European Union was the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) in 1950. The foreign minister of France at the time, Robert Schuman, believed that the heavy industries of coal and steel in Europe should be united to secure a lasting peace. Initially, France and Germany were the main countries involved with the European Coal and Steel Community, but Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, and Luxembourg also joined. With these six countries intertwined in the coal and steel industry one member country could not make weapons on their own for wars without affecting the other member countries. Images are more than an object to have for safe keeping. In his article, We Are A Camera, Nick Paumgarten discusses the uprising of the popular recording device known as the GoPro. This device is used to record events and experiences from different perspectives, whether that is from underwater or zip lining through a forest in a first person view. Moreover, videos and photography allow people to capture images to reminisce about past experiences, to share these moments with others, and even remember those whom you have lost. There are countless debates about how distracting cell phones and other electronic devices can be however, they can still be used in positive ways, such as capturing images. Images are a way of recalling events or memories. Certainly, with these images a person would depict a picture far more vividly than what they could have conjured up by simply trying to remember the moment. After going through a great experience, people tend to want to reflect and rejoice at what they had done or gone through. The most memorable moment of my past would have to be my seventh birthday party. It was a small surprise in the middle of a park in Fort Lauderdale on a scorching hot day. As a logical consequence, Postmes and Brunsting (2002) reasoned that the Internet is changing society because people s cognitive processes, triggered by access to information and communication, replace the strong social ties that traditionally underpin committed activism. In simpler words, in the past, humanity used the herd instinct as the main driving force behind committed forms of activism. Thanks to the Internet, we climb another step or three on the evolutionary ladder, and simply do away with the herd instinct and replace it with reason. The argument, if put this way, does not sound particularly strong. What can be taken away is that social media is still evolving, that social media changes the way we or most of us communicate, that social media is used in social and political activism, and that the Internet increases quantitative if not qualitative access to information. Maybe an old mine car or two full of some rocks or coal, with a pickaxe and shovel leaning against it. A few guys with hard hats covered in a black powder coming walking out of the mine pushing a car or two full of coal. The technology has advanced but the process is basically still the same as well as the outcome. Coal is retrieved from underground and taken to factories to be burnt to create electricity or to fuel the steel mills. 1 What is coal? Coal is a substance we consider today a fossil fuel, created from all the dead plants millions of years ago. Coal is formed from prehistoric plants that when they die are not able to release the energy they built up from photosynthesis Typically the plants had fallen into large swamps and bogs, and then over time the dead plants lying on the bottom of the swamps and bogs were slowly covered with other dead plants and sediment build up. Once buried the plants were subjected to high amounts of pressure and temperatures, which over long periods of time it becomes peat then eventually creates coal. We refer to coal as a fossil fuel today because it is created from prehistoric plants and the coal we have today has been millions of years since it was in plant form. Today we coal is still being created we just don t fully recognize it because how long the process actually takes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Dehumanization Of Boarding Schools Kill the Indian in him, and save the man. That was the motto of government established boarding schools for Native Americans on the western frontier. These schools were a cruel and dehumanizing attempt at assimilating native culture with that of the European white man. By enrolling Native American children in these schools, they were susceptible to new diseases brought from Europe, such as tuberculosis and the flu, which the natives had never encountered and resulted fatal. Little Indian boys who prided themselves in their long hair were forced to cut it off and exchanged their given names for white names. Since Indian children were forced to speak only English, some schools went so far as to punish whomever spoke in their native language. These schools had good intentions, they offered nursing, education, and more opportunities to grow in the new society than the Indians would otherwise ever receive, yet that gift was not requested by the native peoples. By killing off Native Americans, making them resign aspects of their culture, and forcing them to switch to the European language, government boarding schools completely replaced the culture of Indians by means of cruel and dehumanizing procedures. The first government boarding school for Indians was located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and established in 1879. The second point outlines the regulation of avoiding real and perceived conflicts of interest and to bring the forth to all parties involved. On Fox s Hannity and Colmes program last July, Samuel Hirsch, the attorney who filed lawsuits against McDonald s, Burger King, Wendy s, and KFC on behalf of his client who blames them for his poor health, admitted that the restaurants are not completely to blame. But he added that their failure to post warnings about nutrition content and their sophisticated marketing strategies make them partly culpable. Hirsch s claim that nutrition information is not available is false. Every one of these companies has its nutrition information available on its website, and I have seen nutrition content posters at several fast food establishments. But even if the restaurant provided no information, it is easy enough to learn from books, the Internet, television, and radio that certain foods can promote heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. If you smoke let me ask you this: did an employee from one of the tobacco companies put a gun to your head and make you smoke a cigarette? I didn t think so. People who are dying ... • 24. The Final Legacy Of William The Conqueror, Leader Of The... He ended with a BANG! That is the final legacy of William the Conqueror, leader of the Norman invasion of Britain and victor at the iconic Battle of Hastings. When William died, he had developed a bacterial infection in his stomach, which went unnoticed by the mortician. William was a rather heavy man, and the coffin he was given was slightly small, so he was forced into the coffin even though he did not fit. As the infection spread, gas began to build up in his gut, and, in the middle of his funeral precession, the coffin burst, guts and stagnant blood flying all over the now shrieking crowd. But he is remembered for far more impactful and even bloodier events (10). Although the Norman Conquest of 1066 was a year of much bloodshed, that year was pivotal to the nation of Great Britain as it helped to establish the boarders and structure of the Kingdom of Great Britain, it contributed to the creation the English dialect, and brought new political, social, and religious reforms to the region, each of which stood to benefit the lands well being The year of 1066 C.E was a period of great reckoning, as the events of the year s famous Norman invasion would shape the British Isles forever. Before the invasion, England was ruled by a scheming King known as Edward the Confessor, who used his childless marriage as a political tool. He promised his crown to several different people in his lifetime, such as Harold II, the Earl of Wessex, Harold II s brother, Tostig, William, Duke of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also, subjects received regular inhalation therapy or had other co morbidities (gastro esophageal reflux disease and sinusitis) were excluded due to the well known and documented harmful effects of these disorders on the voice quality. In our subjects, it was found that jitter, PPQ and phonatory resistance increase with the decrease in the pulmonary function. These vocal functions increased in abnormal voice quality and considered objective indications of dysphonia. The phonatory resistance increased with the decrease in the pulmonary function. Gradually and over time, this increased expiratory effort during phonation develops increased tension in the laryngeal musculatures which is responsible for the perceived dysphonia. This means that at least great part of dysphonia in our subjects is functional (muscle tension or hyperfunctional dysphonia). The primary cause of this dysphonia is the weak pulmonary support of air. Moreover, the characters of dysphonia which dominate in our subjects are strained, rough and leaky dysphonia in order. These characters of dysphonia typically occur in hyperfunctional dysphonia.13In this article, the strained dysphonia was found in 23 subjects of COPD(+)dysphonia group (56.7 %). Also, clinical examination by indirect laryngoscopy revealed medial compression ofthe ventricular bands during phonation in about 50% of COPD+dysphonia subjects (17 subjects). Subjects with dysphonia have higher phonatory resistance than those without dysphonia, however the difference is insignificant. This elevated phonatory resistance can be explained by the increased tension of the laryngeal musculatures during ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Jack Trout And Ries What a strange word, positioning. Its origins are shrouded in the fog of history. The popular marketing writers, Jack Trout and Al Ries, started talking about position or positioning in 1972 or thereabouts, and took credit later for having invented positioning. However, I believe that positioning was an emerging concept and a term, in at least limited use, within the marketing and advertising community at the time that Trout and Ries first wrote about it. Certainly, the basic concepts of positioning were not new in 1972. The term positioning was described by Trout and Ries as the basic position in the consumer s mind occupied by a brand. They saw positioning as an antidote to the over communicated society, in which consumers were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning, it s critical to talk to consumers representing a broad spectrum of the potential market. It is in these early stages that you must resist the temptation to focus too quickly on a narrow segment of consumers. Keep the market definitions very broad in the early stages of the research so you do not accidentally preordain the outcome before it begins. For example, if you interviewed people who only use rotary lawnmowers, you probably would find they only want to buy rotary mowers. But if you interviewed everyone with a lawn, you probably would identify many different needs, problems and motives that may form the basis for a positioning strategy. Qualitative methods (focus groups, depth interviews and ethnography) are essential in the early stages. What do consumers know, and what do they not know? What language, associations, images, and metaphors do consumers use in talking about the category? What brands are they familiar with, and how much do they know about the different brands? What are their perceptions of each of these brands? What motivates them to consume the product or use the service? What are the key determinates of brand preference? How is the market segmented or subdivided? What products or services would be substituted if the subject brand were unavailable? • 31. Eli Whitney s Invention Of Interchangeable Parts And Mass... I shall not stay here... Up before day, at the clang of a bell and out the mill by the bell just as though we were so many living machines (Hopkinson 37). Many girls, between the ages of fifteen and thirty five, worked at textile mills during the Industrial Revolution for eleven to twelve hours a day, with little time to catch their breath and fresh air. The Industrial Revolution started in Europe in the eighteenth century and spread to America during the nineteenth century. Eli Whitney s invention of interchangeable parts and mass production helped lead the American Industrial Revolution, which started after the War of 1812 and peaked during the 1870 s. During this time period, many factories, mills, and factory cities were constructed, one of which was Lowell, Massachusetts, and employed women because their salaries were lower and therefore cost less. The conditions of the mills and boarding houses that the girls lived in were unpleasant and crowded, and they could easily become ill. Eventually, after the height of the Industrial Revolution, women fought for their rights and better conditions in their workplaces. The Industrial Revolution changed women s roles in society, as it made jobs that were filled by girls, put them in challenging settings, and united them to work for change in the workforce. The Industrial Revolution was a time period in American history, starting from about the late 1700 s to the early 1800 s and peaked during the 1870 s. Samuel Slater came ... • 33. Managerial And Behavioural Theory Of The Firm Introduction With the roots of the neoclassical theory of the firm dating back to the 1770 s and some of the more recent developments being some 80 years ago, it is understandable that economists have begun to question how applicable the Neoclassical theory of the firm is to present day corporations. (Lipczynski, Wilson, Goddard, 2009) Managerial and behavioural theories have been developed with the intention of providing a more realistic insight into how contemporary organisations function. This paper will address how the managerial and behavioural theories differ to the neoclassical approach of the firm, and to what extent they enhance our understanding of firms. In doing so Baumol s sales revenue maximisation and Williamson s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At its most basic, neoclassical is reliant upon the surrounding market conditions controlling the decisions of firms. The Neoclassical approach to the firm provides us with a market wide framework from which we can make predictions on future outcomes. During the eighteenth century economic thinking was heavily influenced by the growing textile industry, where the majority of suppliers were producing homogenous products; leaving no motive for the economic theory being developed to account for diverse market conditions. (Lipczynski, Wilson, Goddard, 2009) According to The Modern Corporation and Private Property Revised Edition (1969) written by Berle and Means, out of The 200 Largest Non Financial Corporations in the United States the number classed as Management Controlled increased from 88 to 169 from 1929 to 1963 respectively. (Berle and Means, 1968) Amidst the globalisation of firms and the rise of the stock exchange, firms have become more complex and there ownership has become more diluted. The supermarket industry is an example of how firms have become more multifaceted; selling thousands of heterogeneous products, buying from countless suppliers and being owned by whoever chooses to buy shares on the stock exchange. Due to firms increasing in both size and complexity, owners of firms often employ teams of managers to run their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Reality Of Presidential Election Essay Reality of presidential candidates Connor Brown With the looming election drawing ever closer the parade of losers (candidates) has come down to the final two. Only one can become President and only one can keep the title of presidential candidate. Over the past year the country has seen over 20 different people attempt to become the leader of the free world; and they are all the same. At the very least they are similar, and by default very easy to categorize. 1. Who is this guy? This is the candidate no one knows. This is the Lincoln Chaffey, Martin O Malley, and George Pataki (google him). Lincoln Chaffey who said America needed to get on the Metric system. Now this candidate is fun because they were known for something they had done earlier and then return to the public eye to try and lead the country. This includes Marco Rubio and Ben Carson. Marco Rubio in 2013 gave the Republican response to the State of the Union address. Whether he did well in that speech was not important. The important thing was that randomly during the speech he leaned over and took a drink of water. This speech was joke fodder for weeks following the speech. What no one expected was for Marco Rubio to return 2 years later and run a respectable presidential campaign. Ben Carson was famous for being the first Neuro surgeon to successfully separate conjoined twins; and in 2015 he ran for president. He did well in the pools for a couple weeks, but after the Oregon Shooting he said what the victims should have done (not the most sensitive thing to do after a mass shooting) causing a dive in his polls.
