Florence
Florence is home to many wonderful painters and artists during the renaissance. The one who did the
ceiling of the cathedral that is shown is Giorgio Vasari. he was a renaissance painter, architect, and
author. This artifact shows how extravagant they had gotten with their art, using perspective, shading
and the influences of humanism to paint. This shows the true art of this time period.
Why was Florence important?
Florence is arguably the starting place of the renaissance. With many different artists there, the Medici
Family in control and a very strong trading system, it was a very powerful city state during the
renaissance. During this time, the feudal system was no more. The people in ... Show more content on

Wittenberg is the town that the reformation started in. This is where the catholic church was that
Martin Luther nailed the these on the door to. With that, many people became Lutheran in this city and
the catholic church did not like that. A lot of the reformation took place here because it was the
starting point.
This artifact is in Libon. This statue is dedicated to Henry the Navigator. He sent a lot of people to go
discover parts of the new world. Because of Henry the Navigator, Portugal conquered Brazil. He was
very important to Portugal and the exploration era.
Why was Lisbon Important?
Lisbon is the main area that Henry the Navigator sent out his ships to discover the new world. This
became a very popular trading depot because of its location and finding new things during
exploration. This was a place where the Colombian Exchange happened, especially with what is now
Brazil. This is also where Ferdinand Magellan set off to sail completely around the earth.
The Lamentation by Scorpion Pulzone shows exactly what Rome was like during the counter
reformation. This painting shows how the catholic church wanted the art to look. They wanted all art
to be focused on Jesus Christ and his Resurrection. During the counter reformation, the Catholic
Church tried to bring all the attention back onto God. They wanted God to be the main focus, as seen
in this painting, not anything

The Adaptive Voice
The Adaptive Voice Our actions are what define us as humans. Words are part of our actions.
Therefore, our voice defines who we are, so when we change our voice we change the fabric of who
we are. Zadie Smith, the author of Speaking in Tongues , knows this first hand when she moved from
a working class district of London to Cambridge. She felt that she was able to have both, the
Cambridge voice and the Willesden voice, and use them to expand her base of knowledge; like
learning a new language. However, as she became more engrossed in her studies the core of her
personality that kept her at her roots disappeared and she was consumed by the Cambridge life style.
She lost herself in Cambridge because she was imitating the Cambridge life style and according to
Susan Blackmore s essay Strange Creatures humans imitate naturally to learn. As humans imitate they
change and because they change, their voices change as well; building an idea within us that our
voices need to be unified, or singular. When we change voices we change mindsets making it
incredibly difficult to switch between two mindsets on a whim. Our voices must be singular in order
for us to correctly display our identity to the world. When you pick up a new meme it is like learning a
new language, it requires flexibility. Zadie Smith says flexibility is something that requires work if it
is to be maintained (Smith 248). This is something that can be said about all forms of learning.
Whether it is learning a

Persuasive Essay On Xbox
I like to casually play games on my Xbox 360. I ve been thinking to upgrade my living with a new
device. What would be the best and the cheapest option? Should you get Xbox One, PlayStation 4 or
PC? At first, I was thinking to buy PlayStation but at the end, I decided to build a custom gaming PC.
I will list some of the benefits of PCs over consoles and the process to build cheap PC for gaming,
Hardware price Game consoles are cheap if you compare the price to a high end gaming PC. The
earning logic behind consoles is to make the profit from game selling and sell the consoles with lost.
The gaming PCs sold by manufacturers like Asus or Dell are usually high end devices with a high
price tag. To compete with console price you can build a custom gaming PC with almost the same
cost. Gaming PC cost can be cut even further by using used parts from eBay and other sites. Game
prices Consoles have their own ecosystems and user is limited to buy games through official channels
usually through manufacturers online game store. PC games have multiple channels where users can
buy games with more competitive price. Most popular is Valves Steam Online store. Valve makes
buying games on PC as easy as on consoles and Steam also has a large library of game titles. There is

Book Review
Speaking of sex : the denial of gender inequality
By Rhode, Deborah L
Publication: 1999
Speaking of Sex by the author Deborah L. Rhode, the title itself of the book attracts your curiosity.
She skillfully hints at the real material of the book by providing her readers with an appealing title
with a subtitle of, The Denial of Gender Inequality. The idea of Speaking of Sex challenges the
audience to look further or explore the problems associated with gender inequality. The author follows
a mere systematic pattern, she begins by presenting society s constant denial regarding gender
inequality growth, in spite of the progress made lately in social, legal and regarding public policy
settings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the acknowledgment that considerably much has changed during the past twenty years, Rhodes
states how the issue behind no problem problem is the denial of gender inequality that is still
persistent and growing. Rhode s writing made me realize my denial regarding this issue and how this
denial is continuing to disadvantage women in society as a whole. The author emphasizes on three
basic patterns of denial, the first denial Rhodes states is the denial of gender inequality, which is
composed of the allowance of individuals as myself to ignore or not succeed to identify or recognize
the extent in which women still suffer from discrimination against. The second denial is the denial of
injustice which stands for the manifestation of the way in general people rationalize women s
inequality by blaming the women for the choices they make and their own capabilities. Last but not
least, the third denial is the denial of responsibility which stands for the beliefs that as individuals we
look upon the issue as not personally involved in the problem women face, or the fact that we are not
responsible somehow for contributing to finding a

Psoriasis Essay
Psoriasis is a skin disease and was first perceived as a distinct disease as early as 1808 [39]. The name
derives from the Greek psora meaning to itch [40]. The patients suffer impaired quality of life similar
to or worse than patients with other chronic diseases such as ischemic heart disease and diabetes [41].
Over the past 20 years, understanding of the disease mechanisms has most significantly and several
effective development of drugs for treatments to be developed. However, we still lack a cure for this
common and enigmatic disease and many patients experience significant side effects including skin
cancers in non lesional skin, abnormal renal function and liver abnormalities. It is anticipated that the
identification of genes or antigens responsible for the occurrence of psoriasis will increase our
understanding of its nature and make it possible to design drugs to increase patient compliance and
safety and to reduce medical costs. Staphylococcus aureus may be the major determinant of both
disease causation and severity through the production of its toxins, some of which act as super antigen
[42]. These super antigens stimulate T cells non specifically without normal antigenic recognition. ...

response of peripheral blood mononuclear cells to Staphylococcal enterotoxin B was significantly

was associated with a decrease in lymphocyte response [47]. Although indirect experimental evidence
suggests that psoriasis can be caused by an aberrant keratinocyte metabolism leading to strong
proliferation, studies in several murine and human models of psoriasis have underlined the importance
of T cell derived cytokines in promoting keratinocyte proliferation

How Does Huxley Use Social Order In Brave New World
Various social orders have risen and fallen in the inquiry of the ideal society. Orwell s novel, 1984,
centres around the utilization of the media to control the majority while Huxley s novel, Brave New
World, delineates the utilization of conditioning. The two social orders have their own ideal society
and utilize any methods important to accomplish them.
Initially, Huxley has different strategies to achieve a total totalitarian state administration. The
utilization of conditioning is an immense factor on why Huxley s state is effective. Soma, a
medication which generally circulates and supports the society enables a getaway from torment,
distress, shame, misery or outrage; it enables delight, excitement, and a general feeling of prosperity.
If you somehow happened to decay the use of the medication you will be put around and be
downgraded by society. The medication soma is like Prozac or fluoxetine in our reality, it s lawfully
disseminated by the administration. The administration of Brave New World uses soma to condition
the general population of world state by smothering consistent human feelings to keep control and
social order.
In contrast to Brave New World, 1984 focuses on media to control its people. Orwell s totalitarian
party INGSOC known as English socialism uses its party ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Amphetamines For Kids Research Paper
Amphetamines for Kids
ADD/ADHD is a disease that affects many children in the U.S. Most who are diagnosed with the
disease take prescription amphetamines (Hitt). The name amphetamine can be very intimidating, as it
is normally associated with the extremely addictive, and illegal drug, methamphetamine. Many
parents are worried about their children taking these drugs and how they will be affected (Boorady).
Scientists and doctors are currently conducting research on the long term and short term side effects of
these medications (Long Term). As a result, there is much controversy over how ADHD medication
affects a child s body. When a child is diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, most medical professionals
prescribe a amphetamine to help the child with his symptoms. These drugs increase the levels of
dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that the body naturally produces for movement
and attentiveness. When the brain is flooded with dopamine, the body reacts with a feeling of
euphoria. The feeling of euphoria is the body s way of feeling pleasure (Methylphenidate).

The Differences and Similarities Between Caged Bird and...
The Differences and Similarities Between Caged Bird and Still I Rise Caged Bird and Still I Rise are
in their own ways similar, because they are both noticeably about the coloured race and the
entrapment of that race and their bid for freedom. But both poems also display many differences, like
the use of metaphors and ways of expressing their determination and the segregation of their race.
Their titles almost sound like opposites with a capture of something and a rise above something, but
Still I Rise would also be a rise above a capture or an attempt at a capture Maya Angelou, the author,
was raised in segregated, rural Arkansas, and so this could be the reason for the content of her poems.

The structure of Caged Bird is clearly stated in the verses and the poem moves at a steady pace,
exploring the bird s actions and feelings throughout the poem. The first verse of this poem starts with
the freedom of the bird and its joys of being able to do what it wants, but this is short lived and the
bird is captured in the second and remainder of the verses. Although there is a theme of the bird s song
running through the whole poem, it is concentrated in verse three and the same verse is repeated as
verse six. This is so that the reader doesn t forget the message the poet is trying to portray. The fourth
verse is about the things the bird is looking forward to, if it manages to escape its captivity, but the
reality comes back to the bird in the fifth and sixth verses, and so the bird returns to its song for
freedom once again. The arrangement of the first verse in Caged Bird starts with one capital letter at
the beginning and one full stop at the end, which suggests the movement and freedom of the bird. Still
I Rise has more of a hidden message. It does not contain a journey, unlike Caged Bird , although Still I
Rise has a distinctive rhythm, which stays the same until the last two verses, which the writer uses to
get the message of the will for her to rise above the segregation across to the reader. The rhythm also
suggests the marching of slavery, which again reinforces the message of the treatment of the

Watson and Rayner s Unconditional Stimulus Experiment on...
Watson and Rayner set out to substantiate his theory by recruiting a subject, who basically stayed in a
hospital attached John Hopkins University, and the conducting an experiment on the chosen infant.
Their aim was to classically condition the infant to fear a white laboratory rat. The infant, Albert B. or
Little Albert , was a physically healthy and emotionally stable 9 month old boy (Watson Rayner, 1920,
p. 1). He was described as a very relaxed baby who hardly ever cried. In the emotional tests, before
conditioning, Albert was exposed to a series of objects, which included fire, cotton wool, a monkey, a
dog, a white rabbit, a mask with hair, and a white laboratory rat. He had not shown a scared or nervous
response toward these neutral stimuli, and particularly adored the white laboratory rat. (chaopret 7, p.
239).
Firstly, the researchers attempted to identify an unconditioned stimulus. They carried this out by
making a loud noise, hitting a hammer against a steel bar, and observing whether the infant responds
in fear (learning+c, p.74). In this case, Albert started to cry, which suggested that he was afraid. This
gave them the method of testing several important aspects of the experiment.
The actual practise of conditioning only started when Albert was 11 months old. The first step Watson
and Raymer took towards conditioning Little Albert, was paring the loud noise, unconditioned
stimulus, with the white rat, conditioned stimulus. The responses were fear of the

Gender Inequality In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Sexuality over Centuries
And though she be but little, she is fierce (3.2 335). This was said in A Midsummer Night s Dream.
This represents the life women have of being perceived as small, objects, and as pointless. But as the
time has gone by, women have proved to be a fierce as the Presidents of the United States. When it
comes to looking at women and how they have been interpreted, the one question I have has to be why
Shakespeare was against the female gander. He was a man who was raised in the 16th century so he
has seen the roughness the women have to bear. He seen deal with men having numerous rights, the
feeling of cross dressing to get what they desire, and also fight for their own individual rights.
Looking into Shakespeare s work and interpreting his meaning behind the treatment of women, there
are many forms that take place from feminist actions to the appearance that is showing women,
including men, living on their daily lives.
Women in the 16th century lived a life greatly different than the women of today. The normal
occupation for women at the time was marriage and motherhood (McDonald 253). The women lived a
very rough life with only two basic tasks, they only cleaned the house and took care of ... Show more

easy. As I stated previously, women had it the hardest time when it came to being compared to the
male gender. The man and the husband did everything they could to be able to maintain rule of the

System of Particles and Rotational Motion Centre of Mass...
SYSTEM OF PARTICLES AND ROTATIONAL MOTION
CENTRE OF MASS AND ROTATIONAL MOTION
INTRODUCTION
For describing the motion of rigid bodies, we shall introduce the key concept of centre of mass . This
concept enables us to understand how we can apply justifiably the Newton s laws of motion, in
essentially the same form to objects of large size including even the astronomical objects like the
planets and the stars.
KINDS OF MOTION OF A RIGID BODY
A rigid body may have three kinds of motion
(1) Pure Translation Motion in such a motion, every particle of the body has the same velocity at a
particular instant of time. For e.g. when a rectangular block slides down an inclined plane, any point
like P1,P2 of the block, at any instant of time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence the centre of mass is closer to the massive particle. NOTE 1. The centre of mass may lie
outside the object. For e.g. the centre of mass of ring lies outside it. 2. Centre of mass depends on the
distribution of mass within the body and is closer to heavy part but for identical particles C.M. lies at
the midpoint of the line joining the point masses. 3. If an object is symmetrical and have uniform
distribution of mass then its C.M. coincides with geometrical centre. 4. The position of C.M. is
independent from the coordinate system. E.g. the centre of mass of a ring of uniform thickness is at its
centre whatever be the coordinate system. CENTRE OF MASS OF LAMINAR OBJECTS
A laminar object means a two dimensional distribution of mass of negligible thickness e.g. paper of
your copy. If a large number of laminar type objects are placed in a plane then

Olympisim
The idea of Olympism was set up more than 120 years ago by Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the
modern Olympic Movement. He did this because he wanted to make the world a better place. He
believed that this can be done though sport. He believed sport could help bring communities together,

Olympism tells us that sport is a universal human right and we all should be free to practice it.
Olympism is a great way to show how everyone in the world can better themselves. Pierre de
Coubertin said; Olympism is not a system it is a state of mind. It can permeate a wide variety of
modes of expression and no single race or era can claim to have the monopoly of it .
Olympism was formalised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC. The IOC established on
23rd June 1894 and it continues to promote Olympism around the world.
(http://olympians.org/woa/olympism/). The WOA, honours the Olympic spirit by helping the 142
NOAs around the world run projects and events that support Olympians and that promote Olympism
in the community.
Olympic ideas and goals
Goals of the Olympics is to break down barriers that could raise from, political, gender, race, or social
background though sport. This allows everyone to be able to live together happy and to make a more
free world for everyone. They will do this by educating youth through sport without discrimination of
any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires an mutual understanding with the spirit of
friendship, solidarity and fair play.
Idea that they Olympics have wanted to achieve, was that men and woman are equal and are able to
compete. This was finally achieved in London 2012. Where the same number of men and woman

Discuss The Effects Of Ww2 On African American Women
The postwar period starting in 1945 was a time of economic boom and a shared sense of unity in the
United States, or so it seemed. Although the unemployment rate was zero percent women and African
American workers were becoming increasingly unhappy with their roles in the American post war
economy. Employment of women in America was at an all time high reaching 19 million by 1945.
However, the traditional gender roles between men and women created tension after the war due to
women s push for opportunity outside of their typical roles at home. In the post war period, African
American workers were still feeling a sense of segregation and inequality in the workforce. They were
usually the last to be hired, especially African American women,

The Media s Negative Effects On Law Enforcement
When an individual chooses a career in law enforcement they realize it can be a very rewarding, yet
dangerous career path to take. Most people often hear about all the potential dangers such as officer
involved shootings and physical confrontations before making the choice to join the ranks of the few
who will always stand for what is right. However, today there is a new danger to law enforcement
known as the mass media which adds a whole new realm of difficulty to an already taxing job. The
negative effects of the media can be felt nationwide by law enforcement agencies and these effects
include creating a divided community, unrealistic expectations, and the devastation of current and
future law enforcement careers. This presentation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The media understands which topics are going to cause people to stop everything and listen better than
anybody else. One of those topics is racially motivated brutality by police officers. This has become a
major issue in the United States lately and the media adds fuel to the fire any chance they can get for
their 15 seconds of fame. A good example of how the media turns regular law enforcement incidents
into a topic of race is the way they word their headlines. This is especially true of articles as they want
catchy titles in hopes of catching the attention of readers. Getting an individual to actually take the
time to read an article is tricky business today as reading is considered by many to be a lost art. What
better way is there for the media to attract attention than by saying a certain race is under attack? For
example, the title Man Tasered for resisting arrest probably would not garner that much attention by
today s standards. However if it gets a media makeover and is now, Black man Tasered by officer for
resisting arrest , it will likely receive more attention. This is an unfair practice that stirs up more
controversy and hate for law enforcement officers from those who can t see past the racial
propaganda. Cases like these are popping up all too frequently and as the reader has probably seen
they can lead to civil unrest and

The timing of acquisition by PepsiCo was well planned because the target companies were losing their
market share during that time period and the offer of an acquisition by PepsiCo was accepted with a
hope to drift back into the market.
Consistent with PepsiCo s decentralized structure and the emphasis the firm placed on entrepreneurial
management, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and KFC each operated with a great deal of autonomy. PepsiCo
did not interfere in their businesses unless they thought that their interference was necessary for the
strategic growth.
How does Pepsi s corporate strategy create a competitive advantage for them?
Pepsi s corporate strategy was to follow a Related Linked Diversification (mixed related and
unrelated) because there are only limited links between businesses. They went ahead with expansion
through acquiring other firms only when they believed that the product of the target firm was a
complement to their product i.e. the soft drink. The acquisition of Frito Lay also took place because
Pepsi believed that snack chips went well with soda. Similarly, this corporate relatedness and
operational relatedness can be seen in the acquisitions of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and KFC.
Their practice of letting the managers navigating across the businesses holding different
responsibilities worked well for PepsiCo. This way, transferring

Jo realizes that everything she has ever done is either to protect or benefit Beth. This even meant not
falling in love with Teddy or anyone else for that matter, as it would be something coming in between
their relationship.
One evening Jo goes upstairs to tend to Beth, when she realizes that Beth is no longer sleeping. Beth is
still, pale, has thin cheeks and is not breathing. As Jo quietly mourns by herself, she thinks about what
her life will be like without Beth as her arms instinctively tightened their hold upon the dearest
treasure she possessed. (285)
As years progress, Jo feels lost without her Beth. She pulls away from the world and becomes bitter
until Professor Bhaer comes to visit. She unleashes all her frustrations, worries, and hopes on him and
realizes that she doesn t want to get hurt again. Losing Beth was her first heartache, and she doesn t
want to have another. As Mr. Bhaer and Jo talk, Jo also discovers that she has deep feelings for him,
but doesn t want to act on them, as it would not be proper for a lady in her time.
The professor leaves for a couple of years for a job in the west, but promises to be back. In between
this time, they keep in touch and both eventually admit their feelings for each other, and decide that
they should get married when he comes back. Fredrick and Jo make all of the arrangements for the

To Dorothy Sonnet 130 Analysis
Stirling McKelvie Mrs. Ivey AP English IV 18 April 2015 Poetic Analysis It is a rarity for one find
poetry that recognizes that the object of one s affection is far from perfection. For instance, My
mistress eyes are nothing like the sun (sonnet 130) is a sonnet written by William Shakespeare in the
year of 1609 that appears to be filled with insults directed to his lover, but in the end, he expresses his
deep and genuine affection for her. This poem relates to To Dorothy by Marvin Bell, which was
produced in 1937. A more modern take on love as opposed to sonnet 130, the narrator describes his
admiration for his wife despite her imperfections and would be incredibly distraught without her. The

To Dorothy is written for his wife, Dorothy, whom seemed to be the subject of many of his poems
along with children. In the Bell s biography by Thomas Erskine and Sarah Hilbert, Bell stated that My
story since 1960 is forever woven together with the stories of Dorothy, Nathan, and Jason. (sec.
Biography, par. 3). Bell acknowledges the fact that his wife is not beautiful, exactly but admires her
individuality which makes her beautiful, inexactly (l. 1 2). Throughout the poem, Bell compares their
love to a mulberry bush (l. 3 4) and if he lost her, he would have to have to ask the grass to let me
sleep (l. 14). This means that Bell adores his wife and that she is an important aspect of his life. If she
passed away, a part of him would die as well. Notably, personification plays a major role in shedding
light on the theme of Sonnet 130 and To Dorothy . In Sonnet 30, Shakespeare personifies his mistress
s hair stating that black wires grow on her head (1. 4). Wires certainly cannot grow since it is not
living and is a humanlike quality. Also, this attribute of the mistress relates to the fact that women are
not perfect individuals as many poets try to portray them as. This is also for the case of the breath that
from my mistress reeks (l.

Pursuing A Life At College
At the average age of eighteen, every student must decide what their future will entail. Some students

Feminist In Margaret Atwood s The Penelopiad
The Penelopiad is a novel written by Margaret Atwood a Canadian born female with strong opinions
and even stronger viewpoints. Margaret started her career as a writer in 1961 when she published her
first poetry book. She has written many books and novels. Atwood has denied that her work is
feminist in many occasions but when we further inspect The Penelopiad we get the feeling that this is
indeed a very feminist novel. The Penelopiad is the story of Penelope the wife of Odysseus and
mother of Telemachus son of Odysseus. We get to hear her side of the story in this novel. Odysseus is

Penelope says it was made special, but we can conclude that this is Odysseus being possessive and
oppressive he made this bed because if he ever heard anyone talking about it he would know Penelope
had cheated on him. He uses this to control her and keep her loyal, but he can sleep with whomever he
wants. Penelope must hear stories of Odysseus and his adventures and orgies with the nymphs and
goddesses, but she is not allowed to cheat. Here we see a strong example of gender roles. It is believed
that wen a man cheats he s a player, a seducer of women, but a woman who cheats is a called
something awful and is shun upon by all. Women are to be submissive to men regardless of how old
they are we get to see this in the Penelopaid when we hear how Telemachus talks to his mother
asserting himself as head of the house even though he is if anything a teenager. In the article written
by Mary Beard, Silencing women an age old practice we get an idea of just how much gender role
inequality there is in this novel. Beard points out also an instance where in the Odyssey we see
Telemachus act like he is better because he is man and no respect towards his mother, go back up into

Vitamin D Supplementation
Multiple Sclerosis is a disease which affects neurons in the central nervous system. It erodes the
myelin sheath that covers the axons of the neurons. As such, the transmission of nerve signals does not
occur as efficiently as it should. The myelin sheath gets disintegrated due to an autoimmune disease,
where the immune system attacks its own tissue rather than foreign tissue.
Research conducted shows that there is a correlation between multiple sclerosis and people s
geographical location. People who live closer to the equator are less likely to get multiple sclerosis,
whereas people who live further away from the equator have a greater chance of getting it. One reason
for this explanation is that sunlight is rich in Vitamin D and there is more sunlight near the equator,
compared to areas further away from the equator. As a result, lack of Vitamin D may be responsible
for the onset of multiple sclerosis.
If a person is deficient in Vitamin D, they may have a greater chance of getting this disease. One area

People who favor charcoal don t mind that it s a little harder to handle and takes longer to cook than

An excellent choice for backpackers would be a very light weight stainless steel charcoal grill. They

Chinese Immigration To America
Immigration has always been a topic of controversy (now more than ever). However, many Americans
tend to forget their ancestors were all very much immigrants most migrating to America in the pre
Civil Wars days such as the Germans, Irish, and Chinese. Immigrants traveled to the United States for
many reasons. The Irish sought after a future in America after a potato famine left many families in
great poverty and suffering from starvation. The German and Chinese also came in search of a better
life, to provide for their families, and to chase after the American Dream. Many Chinese immigrated
to the U.S. due terrible famines in the 1840s, which were caused by a lack of farmland because of
overpopulation. Most Chinese immigrants were poor, hard working men, who left their families to
gain wealth from gold in California in the hopes of returning back to China. Although these men were
very hardworking (so much so that Westerners called them coolies from k u li meaning hard strength),
Americans soon became jealous of their prosperity and picked up the slogan California for Americans.
Taxes were even imposed specifically to aim at the Chinese. Life was also rough for Chinese women;

Between The Lines Of Beowulf
Between the Lines of Beowulf Epic poems date back to the early years Before Christ, some even as
far into the past as 2100 Before Christ. The original unknown author of Beowulf writes in the Old
English language and illustrates medieval times in stunning detail. Burton Raffel credibly translates
ancient works of literature into a legible dialect of today s society, while obtaining many of the literary
elements used in the original pieces of writing. Readers regard Beowulf as the mother poem of
England. This recognition only increases the significance of Beowulf, the actual character, as an epic
hero. The poem itself reflects on the Anglo Saxon way of life, and establishes great differences from
today s society. Like most pieces of literature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lines 36 37 enhance the sound of the poem: He slipped through the door and there in the silence /
Snatched up thirty men, smashed them... Without many other forms of entertainment, during the era of

satisfies the listener. During Beowulf s battle with the dragon, the writer establishes that for the first

the poem contained four beats. The Old English version of Beowulf also contained a pause within
most lines; poets refer to this pause as a caesura. When Beowulf is rebutting Unferth s false

Cultural Impact Of The Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance showed a bizarre cultural change that helped the image of Africans around
the world. The Renaissance s purpose was to project the rebirth of the African American arts. Though,
it originally wasn t known as the Harlem Renaissance, but instead called the Negro Renaissance by
Alain Locke. It all started with a insane migration of African Americans traveling north to pursue a
new future for themselves and their families. With Harlem being the focus of where most of the
African American migrate to, it also became where the America s culture shifted. The Harlem
Renaissance removed the old views of how blacks are supposed to be treated as slaves and gave them
a way to show that they aren t that different compared to other races.
Jazz was the creation of the combination of African rhythm and the European harmony. It was popular
enough to bring the attention of the whites towards the African American community. Soon enough,
people of all backgrounds were willing to cross into the Harlem community to enjoy the exotic music
jazz provides. With it s insane popularity, the term New Negro was created where the black cultural
community was able to establish a connection with New York s artistic mainstream. Hence it assisted
in breaking down the stereotype barrier that once separated the white and black community since the
founding of the United States. Joel Augustus Rogers, a journalist, believed that along with poetry,
music was one of the fine arts that penetrated the soul and bring out all the richness and sincerity of
the man (Asukile 24). However, the information of jazz did not become popular until Rogers wrote
Jazz at Home. For that reason Rogers stated, Locke included it in The New Negro (1925), which
became the cultural landmark anthology of the Harlem Renaissance (Asukile 23).
The popularity of jazz raised in the white community when Paul Whiteman introduced jazz orchestra
to them. Paul Whiteman s ability to take the best improvisations of jazz and coordinate it to jazz
orchestra gave him the title King of Jazz by white critics. Yet, Whiteman had declined the title for
King of Jazz . Whiteman believed that jazz was a African American invention and he did not have the

What Is The Value Of Life In This Beautiful Life
Remember that time when you were just too lazy to make dinner so you just went through the drive

What Is Your Goal In Life Essay
As a young woman in today s society, I am constantly told to live in the now. This phrase is frequently
said by my peers to me to reassure me that despite feeling like I do not have my life completely

currently, as well as to take decisions that I make one step at a time. It is fairly easy to conform to this
mindset, largely because I am so young and want to appreciate every moment that life has to offer.
However, as I move forward into my adult life, I am beginning to realize the importance of setting
goals in my life. This is not only because I want my life to have a purpose so that I am not just

1) Explain the relevance of the concepts of interdependence, conjectural variation, independent action

The oligopoly theory is based on the importance of the number of firms in an industry as well as on
the nature of a product. In oligopoly, the more similar or homogenous product of different firms is, the
greater is awareness of the competitors. In all oligopolistic markets several sellers represent a

  • 2. 4.09 World History Essay Transcript of 4.09 World history Map Lisbon Florence Florence is home to many wonderful painters and artists during the renaissance. The one who did the ceiling of the cathedral that is shown is Giorgio Vasari. he was a renaissance painter, architect, and author. This artifact shows how extravagant they had gotten with their art, using perspective, shading and the influences of humanism to paint. This shows the true art of this time period. Why was Florence important? Florence is arguably the starting place of the renaissance. With many different artists there, the Medici Family in control and a very strong trading system, it was a very powerful city state during the renaissance. During this time, the feudal system was no more. The people in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wittenberg is the town that the reformation started in. This is where the catholic church was that Martin Luther nailed the these on the door to. With that, many people became Lutheran in this city and the catholic church did not like that. A lot of the reformation took place here because it was the starting point. This artifact is in Libon. This statue is dedicated to Henry the Navigator. He sent a lot of people to go discover parts of the new world. Because of Henry the Navigator, Portugal conquered Brazil. He was very important to Portugal and the exploration era. Why was Lisbon Important? Lisbon is the main area that Henry the Navigator sent out his ships to discover the new world. • 3. The Adaptive Voice The Adaptive Voice Our actions are what define us as humans. Words are part of our actions. Therefore, our voice defines who we are, so when we change our voice we change the fabric of who we are. Zadie Smith, the author of Speaking in Tongues , knows this first hand when she moved from a working class district of London to Cambridge. She felt that she was able to have both, the Cambridge voice and the Willesden voice, and use them to expand her base of knowledge; like learning a new language. However, as she became more engrossed in her studies the core of her personality that kept her at her roots disappeared and she was consumed by the Cambridge life style. She lost herself in Cambridge because she was imitating the Cambridge life style and according to Susan Blackmore s essay Strange Creatures humans imitate naturally to learn. As humans imitate they change and because they change, their voices change as well; building an idea within us that our voices need to be unified, or singular. When we change voices we change mindsets making it incredibly difficult to switch between two mindsets on a whim. Our voices must be singular in order for us to correctly display our identity to the world. When you pick up a new meme it is like learning a new language, it requires flexibility. Zadie Smith says flexibility is something that requires work if it is to be maintained (Smith 248). This is something that can be said about all forms of learning. Whether it is learning a ... Gaming PC cost can be cut even further by using used parts from eBay and other sites. Game prices Consoles have their own ecosystems and user is limited to buy games through official channels usually through manufacturers online game store. By the acknowledgment that considerably much has changed during the past twenty years, Rhodes states how the issue behind no problem problem is the denial of gender inequality that is still persistent and growing. Rhode s writing made me realize my denial regarding this issue and how this denial is continuing to disadvantage women in society as a whole. The author emphasizes on three basic patterns of denial, the first denial Rhodes states is the denial of gender inequality, which is composed of the allowance of individuals as myself to ignore or not succeed to identify or recognize the extent in which women still suffer from discrimination against. The second denial is the denial of injustice which stands for the manifestation of the way in general people rationalize women s inequality by blaming the women for the choices they make and their own capabilities. Last but not least, the third denial is the denial of responsibility which stands for the beliefs that as individuals we look upon the issue as not personally involved in the problem women face, or the fact that we are not responsible somehow for contributing to finding a ... • 6. Psoriasis Essay Psoriasis is a skin disease and was first perceived as a distinct disease as early as 1808 [39]. The name derives from the Greek psora meaning to itch [40]. The patients suffer impaired quality of life similar to or worse than patients with other chronic diseases such as ischemic heart disease and diabetes [41]. Over the past 20 years, understanding of the disease mechanisms has most significantly and several effective development of drugs for treatments to be developed. However, we still lack a cure for this common and enigmatic disease and many patients experience significant side effects including skin cancers in non lesional skin, abnormal renal function and liver abnormalities. It is anticipated that the identification of genes or antigens responsible for the occurrence of psoriasis will increase our understanding of its nature and make it possible to design drugs to increase patient compliance and safety and to reduce medical costs. Orwell s novel, 1984, centres around the utilization of the media to control the majority while Huxley s novel, Brave New World, delineates the utilization of conditioning. The two social orders have their own ideal society and utilize any methods important to accomplish them. Initially, Huxley has different strategies to achieve a total totalitarian state administration. The utilization of conditioning is an immense factor on why Huxley s state is effective. Amphetamines For Kids Research Paper Amphetamines for Kids ADD/ADHD is a disease that affects many children in the U.S. Most who are diagnosed with the disease take prescription amphetamines (Hitt). The name amphetamine can be very intimidating, as it is normally associated with the extremely addictive, and illegal drug, methamphetamine. Many parents are worried about their children taking these drugs and how they will be affected (Boorady). Scientists and doctors are currently conducting research on the long term and short term side effects of these medications (Long Term). As a result, there is much controversy over how ADHD medication affects a child s body. When a child is diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, most medical professionals prescribe a amphetamine to help the child with his symptoms. These drugs increase the levels of dopamine in the brain. The Differences and Similarities Between Caged Bird and Still I Rise Caged Bird and Still I Rise are in their own ways similar, because they are both noticeably about the coloured race and the entrapment of that race and their bid for freedom. But both poems also display many differences, like the use of metaphors and ways of expressing their determination and the segregation of their race. Their titles almost sound like opposites with a capture of something and a rise above something, but Still I Rise would also be a rise above a capture or an attempt at a capture Maya Angelou, the author, was raised in segregated, rural Arkansas, and so this could be the reason for the content of her poems. The structure of Caged Bird is clearly stated in the verses and the poem moves at a steady pace, exploring the bird s actions and feelings throughout the poem. The first verse of this poem starts with the freedom of the bird and its joys of being able to do what it wants, but this is short lived and the bird is captured in the second and remainder of the verses. Although there is a theme of the bird s song running through the whole poem, it is concentrated in verse three and the same verse is repeated as verse six. This is so that the reader doesn t forget the message the poet is trying to portray. The fourth verse is about the things the bird is looking forward to, if it manages to escape its captivity, but the reality comes back to the bird in the fifth and sixth verses, and so the bird returns to its song for freedom once again. The arrangement of the first verse in Caged Bird starts with one capital letter at the beginning and one full stop at the end, which suggests the movement and freedom of the bird. Still I Rise has more of a hidden message. It does not contain a journey, unlike Caged Bird , although Still I Rise has a distinctive rhythm, which stays the same until the last two verses, which the writer uses to get the message of the will for her to rise above the segregation across to the reader. The rhythm also suggests the marching of slavery, which again reinforces the message of the treatment of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Watson and Rayner set out to substantiate his theory by recruiting a subject, who basically stayed in a hospital attached John Hopkins University, and the conducting an experiment on the chosen infant. Their aim was to classically condition the infant to fear a white laboratory rat. The infant, Albert B. or Little Albert , was a physically healthy and emotionally stable 9 month old boy (Watson Rayner, 1920, p. 1). He was described as a very relaxed baby who hardly ever cried. In the emotional tests, before conditioning, Albert was exposed to a series of objects, which included fire, cotton wool, a monkey, a dog, a white rabbit, a mask with hair, and a white laboratory rat. He had not shown a scared or nervous response toward these neutral stimuli, and particularly adored the white laboratory rat. (chaopret 7, p. 239). Firstly, the researchers attempted to identify an unconditioned stimulus. They carried this out by making a loud noise, hitting a hammer against a steel bar, and observing whether the infant responds in fear (learning+c, p.74). In this case, Albert started to cry, which suggested that he was afraid. This gave them the method of testing several important aspects of the experiment. The actual practise of conditioning only started when Albert was 11 months old. The first step Watson and Raymer took towards conditioning Little Albert, was paring the loud noise, unconditioned stimulus, with the white rat, conditioned stimulus. This concept enables us to understand how we can apply justifiably the Newton s laws of motion, in essentially the same form to objects of large size including even the astronomical objects like the planets and the stars. KINDS OF MOTION OF A RIGID BODY A rigid body may have three kinds of motion (1) Pure Translation Motion in such a motion, every particle of the body has the same velocity at a particular instant of time. If an object is symmetrical and have uniform distribution of mass then its C.M. coincides with geometrical centre. 4. The position of C.M. is independent from the coordinate system. E.g. the centre of mass of a ring of uniform thickness is at its centre whatever be the coordinate system. In the Bell s biography by Thomas Erskine and Sarah Hilbert, Bell stated that My story since 1960 is forever woven together with the stories of Dorothy, Nathan, and Jason. (sec. Biography, par. 3). Bell acknowledges the fact that his wife is not beautiful, exactly but admires her individuality which makes her beautiful, inexactly (l. 1 2). Throughout the poem, Bell compares their love to a mulberry bush (l. 3 4) and if he lost her, he would have to have to ask the grass to let me sleep (l. 14). This means that Bell adores his wife and that she is an important aspect of his life. If she passed away, a part of him would die as well. Notably, personification plays a major role in shedding light on the theme of Sonnet 130 and To Dorothy . In Sonnet 30, Shakespeare personifies his mistress s hair stating that black wires grow on her head (1. 4). Wires certainly cannot grow since it is not living and is a humanlike quality. The National Association of Secondary School Principals, as well as many educators, fully supported the resolution and so they put pressure on high school sports association to end their tournaments. Educators wanted women to only play sports at their own college, between one another. Most educators saw women playing intercollegiate sports as unladylike and sometimes unsafe. Halfway into the 1930s women competitive sports had mostly disappeared in many states. The issue regarding whether or not women should be allowed to play sports would not be settled until Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 was put into law. Title IX stated that no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. It would open the door for new possibilities for women such as Margaret Wade, whose basketball career and story would not end after college. Margaret started her career as a writer in 1961 when she published her first poetry book. She has written many books and novels. Atwood has denied that her work is feminist in many occasions but when we further inspect The Penelopiad we get the feeling that this is indeed a very feminist novel. The Penelopiad is the story of Penelope the wife of Odysseus and mother of Telemachus son of Odysseus. We get to hear her side of the story in this novel. Penelope says it was made special, but we can conclude that this is Odysseus being possessive and oppressive he made this bed because if he ever heard anyone talking about it he would know Penelope had cheated on him. He uses this to control her and keep her loyal, but he can sleep with whomever he wants. Penelope must hear stories of Odysseus and his adventures and orgies with the nymphs and goddesses, but she is not allowed to cheat. Here we see a strong example of gender roles. It is believed that wen a man cheats he s a player, a seducer of women, but a woman who cheats is a called something awful and is shun upon by all. Women are to be submissive to men regardless of how old they are we get to see this in the Penelopaid when we hear how Telemachus talks to his mother asserting himself as head of the house even though he is if anything a teenager. In the article written by Mary Beard, Silencing women an age old practice we get an idea of just how much gender role inequality there is in this novel. Beard points out also an instance where in the Odyssey we see Telemachus act like he is better because he is man and no respect towards his mother, go back up into your quarters, ... • 29. Vitamin D Supplementation Multiple Sclerosis is a disease which affects neurons in the central nervous system. It erodes the myelin sheath that covers the axons of the neurons. As such, the transmission of nerve signals does not occur as efficiently as it should. The myelin sheath gets disintegrated due to an autoimmune disease, where the immune system attacks its own tissue rather than foreign tissue. Research conducted shows that there is a correlation between multiple sclerosis and people s geographical location. People who live closer to the equator are less likely to get multiple sclerosis, whereas people who live further away from the equator have a greater chance of getting it. One reason for this explanation is that sunlight is rich in Vitamin D and there is more sunlight near the equator, compared to areas further away from the equator. As a result, lack of Vitamin D may be responsible for the onset of multiple sclerosis. If a person is deficient in Vitamin D, they may have a greater chance of getting this disease. Immigrants traveled to the United States for many reasons. The Irish sought after a future in America after a potato famine left many families in great poverty and suffering from starvation. The German and Chinese also came in search of a better life, to provide for their families, and to chase after the American Dream. Many Chinese immigrated to the U.S. due terrible famines in the 1840s, which were caused by a lack of farmland because of overpopulation. Most Chinese immigrants were poor, hard working men, who left their families to gain wealth from gold in California in the hopes of returning back to China. Although these men were very hardworking (so much so that Westerners called them coolies from k u li meaning hard strength), Americans soon became jealous of their prosperity and picked up the slogan California for Americans. • 33. Cultural Impact Of The Harlem Renaissance The Harlem Renaissance showed a bizarre cultural change that helped the image of Africans around the world. The Renaissance s purpose was to project the rebirth of the African American arts. Though, it originally wasn t known as the Harlem Renaissance, but instead called the Negro Renaissance by Alain Locke. It all started with a insane migration of African Americans traveling north to pursue a new future for themselves and their families. With Harlem being the focus of where most of the African American migrate to, it also became where the America s culture shifted. The Harlem Renaissance removed the old views of how blacks are supposed to be treated as slaves and gave them a way to show that they aren t that different compared to other races. Jazz was the creation of the combination of African rhythm and the European harmony. It was popular enough to bring the attention of the whites towards the African American community. Soon enough, people of all backgrounds were willing to cross into the Harlem community to enjoy the exotic music jazz provides. With it s insane popularity, the term New Negro was created where the black cultural community was able to establish a connection with New York s artistic mainstream. Hence it assisted in breaking down the stereotype barrier that once separated the white and black community since the founding of the United States. Joel Augustus Rogers, a journalist, believed that along with poetry, music was one of the fine arts that penetrated the soul and bring out all the richness and sincerity of the man (Asukile 24). However, the information of jazz did not become popular until Rogers wrote Jazz at Home. For that reason Rogers stated, Locke included it in The New Negro (1925), which became the cultural landmark anthology of the Harlem Renaissance (Asukile 23). The popularity of jazz raised in the white community when Paul Whiteman introduced jazz orchestra to them. Paul Whiteman s ability to take the best improvisations of jazz and coordinate it to jazz orchestra gave him the title King of Jazz by white critics. Yet, Whiteman had declined the title for King of Jazz . Whiteman believed that jazz was a African American invention and he did not have the ability to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
